Maine Cabin Masters (2017–…): Season 7, Episode 1 - Lobster Shack Scramble - full transcript

For Ted Wiederhorn, a cabin on the ocean front was a dream he had all his life. Now he finally has his wish granted after purchasing an abandoned lobster shack on a peninsula, only accessible by boat or hike. But the property has ...

Today we are
headed to Harpswell.

Down on one of the points.

You can't drive there.

Still
early spring, so...

There's no docks in.

So access is going to
be a big issue with this camp.

We're gonna need
more than three guys.

Oh ya, well, that thing
is not going anywhere.

Hey!

Today the guys are
gonna focus on getting
that side deck rebuilt.

Now gun it,
it'll turn harder.

Jeez, you guys!

- Oh wow, look at this.
- Wow.

- Oh my gosh, I love it.
- Wow.

Duck!

What is
wrong with him?

Where're we going?
Over that way?

- Yeah.
- Cool.

Coming in
like Baywatch.

Today we are
headed to Harpswell.

Down on one of the points,

to meet Ted and Terry.

And their lobster pound.

It's a land-locked peninsula.

So you can't um...

- you can't, you can't drive there.
- Non-functioning.

Can't drive there.

Is there
any other way in?

- Ah, you could hike.
- You could hike?

But that's
why we are on boat.

And unfortunately it's
still early spring so...

There's no docks in.

Ted and Terry
do have a right of way,

to set a ramp in a float.

But Ted has a ramp and a float

that just needs to be
patched up in order to
get back in the water.

Oh I see. Honey,
look at that big pile
of junk right there.

Guarantee that's
where we are going.

Hey! Welcome!

- Oh that's good.
- You mean, that one?

Holy Moly,
that's awesome!

- How're doing?
- We're good.

- I'm Ted.
- And I'm Terry.

Well, welcome
to the lobster shack.

- Yeah, welcome to the shack.
- What a spot!

I've been looking
for oceanfront property

for a very long time.

A friend of mine told me about

this abandoned place
that was on this peninsula.

And, got on his boat,

came down here,
and we pulled up on the...

dock, and I said,
I'll take it.

It was exactly what
I was looking for,

even though it's
in total disrepair.

It was a total
falling down wreck.

The deck that we are on
was like, falling apart and...

Over the years I've been
picking away at it.

Trying to, you know,
bring it back into uh,

it's uh, original glory.

So what are you
looking to have done?

We wanna be able to utilize
this like a yoga studio

as well as an overflow
for our guests.

What we're
looking at is like...

getting some solar
out here so that we can
power this place up.

And some new glass in here,

and maybe some
siding and uh...

Just make it
really functional.

I like to garden,

and I was hoping that on
the rebuilt deck over here

we could have uh, raised beds
along the far side

and that would
help define the area.

It's beautiful conditions
for growing and...

Also by... by having it
along the front edge

gives us a little privacy
from the fish bowl.

This originally when we
got here, had 300 of these

old, old lobster uh,
traps on... on that deck.

In the summertime I lobster,

I have a lobster license and,
so we catch lobster and crab.

And I'd like to be
able to live off

the property as much as
I possibly can.

The tide
in about six hours,

- you won't have any water in here at all.
- You won't recognize it.

Well, that brings up
a good point. Let's
talk about access.

What do you have
for a dock system now?

Well, essentially I've got

a landing, a pier over there,
with uh, a fixed pier.

And now, it needs
some attention

because it's not floating
properly anymore.

It's losing some
of the billets that
keep it afloat.

I'm hoping to be able to put
a kayak dock off this here.

Having access
is everything when
you're out here,

you know, remotely like this.

You know, it's early spring,

but you know,
a little too early to

put floats in.

But when are
you looking to have
the camp finished by?

- Midsummer.
- And how much do you have to put into the project?

Uh, $50,000.

That all sounds
doable, you know, weather
permitting of course.

Of course,
we understand.

- We just need a set of keys.
- Okay.

- There you go buddy.
- All right.

Ta da!

Oh cool.

You can see where
the original tanks were.

So lobster boat
pull up high tide.

Load up the crates.

Bring them in here.

Drop them in the tank.

And they would just store them
there until they are ready to
take them to market.

So, he's got the windows.

Sub-floors down.

He's got the flooring.

He's done a lot of
hard work in the materials.

So, windows,
side entrance.

Glass door of some sort to
let more light in there.

And then screen in the porch.

Cedar shakes on the exterior.

How do we get to the porch?

Around.

Put some insulation in
the walls, pine them up.

Keep the old cedar posts.

Yeah possibly
raise it up.

It's cool.

Yeah. Wicked cool.

You can have a door here.

- Yeah.
- A door here and another door going into the...

- Yeah.
- Let's go check this out outside.

Okay. I get it.

I mean, how nice
will be having that

screened in porch right there.

On the camp,
Ted wants to make
it more of a usable space.

He wants overflow
sleeping just,

meditation area,
hanging out area.

Studio space.

So we are going to
put new windows in.

New door, let better light
into the place.

Screen in the one side

to just make more
outdoor area.

And redo the larger deck.

Before we do all that we have
to study the tidal charts.

You know, we have
a short window, if we're gonna
run a barge and all the stuff.

We gotta get
the best bank for our bucks.

So there's a lot
of homework to do.

Get all our docks in a row.

So that we can coordinate
with the barge company,
with the dock company.

So that it's one
good move out here.

Set the docks so that
we have better access by boat.

And also at the same
time hopefully

haul a good load of

material off the island.

- Cool place.
- Wow, tides already gone down a bunch.

Chasing the tides.
Tide is high!

That's good.

That's what we need.

Today is a pretty
important day.

We've got to get
an early start.

We are headed out to
the Wiederhorn peninsula

to get some docks set.

We've got a lot of things
working against us.

We've got a lot of work
to do. We've got some
heavy pieces to move.

We've got tides
to worry about.

And, it's, uh,

not typically
in our wheelhouse.

- Okay.
- You wanna flip it on...

If we can flip this, that
would be absolutely wonderful.

Ready one, two, three.

Aw, it's not bad.
We own this thing.

Yes.

- Oh there you go.
- Okay, sweet.

We got that piece for there,
that piece for there.

So that's, that's Ted's pier.

- Okay. Pier?
- Pier.

- Okay.
- His ramp is over here.

- Yeah.
- But in order to get the ramp over there,

we have to float it
on those two floats.

That ramp
is a little too short.

So he's extending it

by adding this piece.

Holy moly.

So it'll go, the ramp
onto this edge.

But this edge needs
a little extra floatation

to hold that down.

And then that,

big float is going
to be attached to this.

So that will get
you out there.

- You got this?
- Is there gonna be a test later?

- Yes this whole thing is a test.
- We got it.

This project is
more than just about

the cabin or structure itself,
it's about the whole property.

Oh, one more.

They got a unique piece
of property that actually
has land on two shores.

They've had a lot of
issues getting from
point A to point B.

We're here to make
that transition easier

and then to fix
a couple of structures.

Don't look behind
you or in front of you
or to the side of you.

Just focus on your work.

You won't see
the tide going down.

We're dealing with
tides which we don't normally
deal with.

And there is lot of stress.

About that, there's been
a lot of talk all week.

When's the best time to come?
When are we not
gonna have any water?

And you know what,
it was stressful.

Well, we just got high tide,

so we probably have six hours.

Five hours maybe.

Okay, that one's set.

These are just we're
putting skids in basically.

Just to help protect
the billets.

So this will give

the floats something
to sit on other than
the billets at low tide.

The billets
just get destroyed,

during the tides.

First thing we did, flip
the small float over,

get that worked out. Once
we got that in good position

where it only need a couple of
guys to finish it off.

We went to check
out the other floats.

We're still probably
15 minutes from high tide.

But I'm just seeing what it's
gonna take to get these
back out in the water.

One of the floats over there
is pretty massive.

Yeah right.

We knew pretty quickly that

the water wasn't gonna
come in enough to

launch the float.

I don't see
how this is possible.

I don't see how
this is possible either.

Look how
stuck in the mud it is.

If we want these
in the water, we gotta...

we gotta move.

Fast.

This thing is stuck
in the mud, man.

The tide is only going out
from here on out.

So it's only gonna get worse.

High tide
was at 9.08.

And now it's 9.21.

We should have
got here at four.

Be like a fisherman.

We're gonna
need more than three guys.

Oh yeah well, that
thing's not going anywhere.

That thing's huge.

Unless you get a pulley
way over there or something.

Glad I googled
local saloons
before I got here.

We had to literally do
this project at high tide.

I mean, high tide was
only about an hour ago

but look how much
it's already gone down.

So it's not
gonna happen today.

I'm pretty disappointed
about it. It adds more time.

And this is a major piece
of the whole project.

Because without this
we can't get the barge in,
we have set up.

That could change everything.

What if we call them
and say, oh we couldn't,
we didn't get this done?

It could screw
this whole thing up.

Things are not looking
good right now.

And what time
is it now, Ashley?

- 9.20.
- 9.20?

So dead high
we had about 20 minutes
to get this out.

Today we're
at the Wiederhorn's.

It's a big day.

We have to be up early

to work with the tides.

This project is gonna
be challenging

in the beginning because
we are all tide dependent.

We have to get
the docks fixed.

And then float them around.

So that then we can get
the boats to the floats.

Only cool thing about
this project is that it's not
just about the building.

Doing the structure is
a small part of it, it's about
the whole property.

This is just as much about
making Ted and Terry's life
a lot easier on the island,

as it is to making
the structures better.

Yeah we're gonna
redo the lobster pound,

but getting their
dock system more accessible

on either side of
their property is huge.

You know,
the big thing today was
to get the ramp on the pier.

On Ted's side
of the peninsula.

Could we get this,

and that little one
over there?

Then we've
got at least a place to
tie up a boat, right?

We're gonna try to get
this one dock in the water.

- It's ambitious.
- Let's do it.

Oh, we might be able to
get this if we go right now.

You know, we're all here,
we're gonna work.

So we were kinda just adapting
and coming up with a plan that
we could easily execute.

I think we can do it.

Do what?

Get this in
the water, float it around.

Get the ramp
attached to this.

Get this and just the ramp
attached to the pier.

Let me get this anchor down.

So we're gonna...
Are we just trying to
get on the little dock?

Is that what's going on?

- We're trying to get that end attached to the little dock.
- Got it.

Same on the other side.

Oh there you go, nice.

This one. Yeah! There
you go. Okay.

We'll float that other
one over and setting this
down on the floater?

Yeah.

Oh, you'll love a wet
old nasty pressure treater, boys.

Two, three! Nice, Okay.

Pick it up on this corner.

Ready?

There she goes.

She's going boys.

Watch your foot.

- I think we can go this way now.
- Yeah.

- Oh. Over my boots.
- Over the boots.

Yes!

Take him for a nice
little couple's cruise.

Honey, throw me a rope.

Okay, well, that's fun.

Tie it around you.

One of your gunnels.

What?

Did you tie
it to something?

Now gun it,
it'll turn harder.

No, no, no,
no, no. Jeez, you guys.

Ryan's
main job was to

tie the dock while
I drove the boat.

And we're gonna
pull it around.

But Ryan decided
to just hold on to it.

Well, I gunned it a little,

and woo, apparently I almost
ripped out his arms.

You just told me
to take you for a joy ride,
so that's why I thought...

I didn't say, take
you for a joy ride.

Well, in my opinion, you tie
the boat to the dock
and then you pull them.

I don't know why he thought
his arms need to be involved,

like if he thought he was
going to be water skiing
like on this float.

But anyway, it's
apparently my fault.

Tie it on that thing.

Ash, I can hold if you're not
gonna drive like a jerk. Go.

Who put Ryan
on this float?

How fast
should I go, sir?

Just go. We don't
have a lot of time.

- Is this fast enough sir?
- Faster.

I just went fast
and you got mad.

It is the moment of truth.

Little bit more if you can.

There you go! Nice!

We're floating.

- We're floating.
- We're floating.

Can we try and bind
this in thing with it?

You wanna try it?

I mean, is it bouncing
right now?

- It's... Yeah, I mean--
- Yeah, let's try it.

Wouldn't
that be spectacular.

Now that we've got
all the weight on the...

ramp here at the end
of the dock,

this is teetering for us.

So there's a good chance we
might be able to slide this
right down on these skids,

through the mud
right in the water.

Only tide will tell.

- Beautiful.
- Come on.

Today was
another lesson in
Ryan's favorite motto.

It's better to be lucky
than smart.

You know, we were
just walking
that thing around.

Next thing you know, Ashley
gave the boat a little gas.

The thing popped down and that
thing is just sailing away.

Like, we're all like, ahhh.

It was like the aha moment.

I jumped on, we're taking
advantage of this.

That's huge.

Yeah, this slid way easier
than I thought it would.

She's going
half inch at a time.

Whoo-hoo!

- Do we know any seafaring songs?
- Big workout.

More winches.

Lower this thing in,
yeah, she should be going.

Nice job!

Once we got
the ramp locked to the pier,

I think that was a huge sigh
of relief, because from there,

it was just a matter of
connecting the two brackets

on the lower part

and just getting it stationary
and securely fastened.

Pretty much at high tide,
the water is just underneath

the bottom of the deck
on the lobster shack.

Um, as you can see now, it's
just seaweed and mudflats.

Um, we have
a pretty drastic tide here.

It's between 10 and 12 feet.

Um, fortunately we
were able to uh,

do what we had to do and uh,

now we're gonna
get outta here.

This one's gonna
test our patience 'cause
we're dealing with

stuff we don't
normally deal with.

But, you know,
we can put docks
under our belts now, I mean...

Dock, pier installations.

And we're getting paid
today. That makes
us professionals.

So put that on
the resume.

So this is week three
out at the Wiederhorn camp.

But really it's day one
of real build.

Today, we've got all
the guys out here to
do a good clean-up.

We've got the barge
coming in. Hopefully to haul
out a lot of this material.

We're kinda getting
prepped and ready,

pulling out window openings,

to see what we're gonna
need to reframe those.

But, it's a beautiful day,

and it's good day to
kinda get in here and...

rip and tear and see
what we're working with.

Old tarp here.

Also, it's a good stuff
to get rid off.

What a beautiful
lobster shack.

One man's trash is,

definitely another
man's treasure.

So originally, this was
the lobster pound.

So the plan
for this is to make,

a little bit of extra

hang out area, sleeping area
for Ted and Terry.

He wants to keep this,

lift it up.

So that it' out
of the doorway.

So that they can
get a doorway here.

He's got all the windows
out here. We're gonna
put new windows.

New side door entrance there.

And then, it's just
a matter of

closing in the walls.

And we'll kinda just get
organized for when
the dump barge arrives.

- Love it.
- Perfect.

Let's go.

I thought we were coming down
for some demo today.

It's not the case. Today was

dump day!

Just a lot of
debris out here,

that's collected out here
for 30, 40 years.

Lobster traps, ropes, buoys.

All kinds of stuff.

Just had to get off
the island today.

Kennebec marine is showing
up to Princes point.

Uh, about 11 o' clock.

It's like two to three hours
before high tide.

They'll bring the barge
over here and we will

start loading up the barge
with as much of this

debris as we possibly can.

I'm here. At your services.

I need a lobster trap.

We can find you one.

Are there any that
are in real good shape?

On the other side
of this pile...

What do you think about
turning a lobster pot into

a little, like a planter
that goes on the

side of the building
for herbs.

Yes.

Just a free for all.

You've found a pile, you just

bring it on over to the dock,

so when the barge showed up

we could load it and just

stuff that barge
as full as we can get it.

What's wrong
with this box?

She's already
picking stuff...

Isn't this all going off?

- But this is nice, look.
- Get her out of that pile.

Look at this box.

These are cute
little boxes, they'll make

adorable end tables.

These guys said it's
all trash but I'm finding
all kinds of things.

I just got here.

Man, I really hope
it's a big barge.

More rope, jeez!

Rope, rope, rope.

We're gonna
lift this up onto those

collar ties. Get it
out of the way.

While all this

debris is being hauled off,
we're also doing some

demo to the building.

Got Jay and Scott
pulling out the old windows
in the lobster pound.

Oh boy!

Brad is working
on taking out this center

pulley pole. One end of it
was rotted.

So taking
that down, see what we
can do to make it work.

We ended up
cutting off about
eight feet of the rod.

And just shifting it
further down the camp.

It won't go the full length.

I think Ted likes
the looks of it

but it also, the big thing is
just being able to lift stuff

from a boat on to the pier.
It doesn't need to run
the whole length anymore.

So we'll get that back
in place. We got a plan

for the new windows,
new doors and...

Yeah, once we get a lot
these debris off,

we can kinda see what
we are working with
and what needs to be done.

Hopefully with
Kennebec marine services,

you know, they've got
a barge where we can
load up some materials.

That thing better
be huge though.

'Cause there is
a ton of stuff.

Are they aware

of how much stuff we have?

They're bringing
a knife to a gun fight,
aren't they?

They're bringing a knife to
a gun fight, aren't they?

Are they aware

of how much stuff we have?

Supposed to put all
this trash on there.

Looks like we'll be making
a bunch of trips.

- Yes.
- About 75.

We brought a lot a of guys
in with us today,

it's a beautiful day.

And we want to make sure we

get that float freighted
as much as possible.

They are fine
with us screwing whatever
we want right to it.

Perfect.

My motto is...

get in the trenches
with the guys
and do the worst jobs.

So I sat there with them
all day and pulled ropes.

We made it, you know. It looks
a lot better than it did.

BT and Brad and all
those guys are working
on the building.

Jedi was floating around.

Ashley was picking
stuff. I think she found
some cool stuff like,

this is a perfect
picker's paradise.

That's bigger than I thought.
I'm feeling better now.

Getting our money out of
the lumber tarps today.

Once the barge showed
up, it looked small but

we started loading it and,
luckily, the tide was low,

so the barge was
a little bit lower,

so we just kept piling it up,
piling it up, piling it up.

- Thanks, guys.
- Thanks, guys. Have a good day!

That's pretty awesome.

- There she goes.
- That is pretty good.

Kennebec Marine
Service will take the barge
back to land

and then, tomorrow,
we'll have to unload

but we can haul everything
right to the dump.

We weren't able to get
everything off, but we got all
the big stuff.

There were some piles of wood
but those are
easily manageable

from this point forward.

We're probably
week three here, out at Ted's,

here in Harpswell Maine,

and we've been working on
getting materials over here.

We got a good weekend,
we got windows headed off

and installed.

We got doorways cut open.

- Hey, Ashley.
- How are you?

- Great! How are you doing?
- Beautiful day!

- Out by the boathouse?
- Right!

This is gorgeous. What are we
doing here?

The home owners love to kayak,

and one thing we're thinking
is to get a kayak from here,
down, right now...

It's a bit of a stretch,
isn't it?

I don't
even know how you do it, like,
some sort of a pulley system?

I think I do have
just the thing.

Tides go in and out
so fast here.

Like seven feet, nine feet,
something like that.

Yeah, big, big huge
difference, so...

I just didn't know...

Yeah, you probably have
dry beach here at low tide.

Yeah, I think
they do.

Most of the time,
if you wanna get into
the kayak,

you gotta get down into
the water.
That's the main thing.

It's always changing, so,
what we can do is,

give you something that'll
adjust, and get the...

Get the home owners
into the water right
at their level...

So, would it be like a dock
or like a walk-in system...

Yeah, it'll be very much like
a dock. We'll do a ramp.

Is the ramp
just for kayaks?

Any kind of small watercraft.

We'll get them
low to the water,

- is what we'll do.
- Okay.

And it'll just come and go
up and down with the tides?

- That's the idea.
- Okay, that'll be great.

So it's always usable.

I just need to get
a few measurements and...

Okay, let's go do it.

There's a lot of
rocks around here.

It's hard to sow in even.

We thought Greater Northern
could really bring
something in there

that would help them get down
to the water into their kayaks easily.

He took some measurements
and has a good plan,

so I'm sure they have it
under control and I can't wait
to see what they come up with.

We've come up with
a good game plan for
the screened porch.

The issue with the front porch
is that

it's a little narrow for what
the home owners wanna
use it for.

So, what we're doing is,
we're framing the posts

on the outside
of the existing framing

and adding another rim joist
on the piece of framing

to the outside of the post.

So, it'll expand the deck by
seven-and-a-half inches.

And that will give them room
to walk by each other.

This week,
we started doing siding.

We replaced all the trim
that is rotted.

We've got some primer on it.

We do a lot of cedar shakes,

and, just push them in
and nail it all.

Work your way down,

chalk your line,
move your ledger board up,

and proceed.

It does take quite a bit of
time to do this.

But, like I said,

it's a type of siding
that lasts

a lifetime.

It's week seven at
the Wiederhorn camp,

and the guys are gonna focus
on getting that

side deck rebuilt.

It had posts
surrounded with rocks

and then a six by six
on top of that,

and then it had all
telephone poles
on top of that.

And then it had the decking
across those.

So, one or two of the
telephone poles
are rotted out,

two of the six by sixes
were rotted out.

So they had to replace

the six by sixes without
pulling off
all the telephone poles.

That's why I was
really nervous, because

it's almost like
Pick-up-sticks.

If you pull the wrong one out,
the whole thing collapses,

and then it's a huge,
huge issue.

I knew that deck was in
really rough shape,

and I was definitely nervous
about tearing into it

and Brad really took control

and I couldn't stress enough
to, kind of

work in sections because
if he took the whole
thing apart

it would all just fall
to pieces.

But, they stripped it back,
replaced what they needed to,

replaced the six by sixes,
got the new framing on there, and

it's fantastic.

For the actual decking,
we used some composite

that Ted
had already purchased.

That saved a lot
for the budget.

If we'd had to purchase that separately,

it would've added
another $5,000 to the budget.

Brad, that looks
awesome! Nice job, guys.

Great job, gentlemen.

Never thought it'd look
that good.

Where did all the junk go?

On Chase's boat.

Guys have been working
really hard all week

to get this deck finished off,
we've showed up,

and it looks beautiful.

They've been hauling off
material all week, so...

We've got standard solar
material showing up today,

so I wanna try and just,
you know,

get things wrapped up so
we're out of the way

for Ed to kinda get everything
roughed in for solar,

to keep that moving
forward as well.

Screen door was a little tall,

so I took an inch off
so that it didn't

interfere with opening
and closing.

Re-framed, screened in porch.

Yeah, that'll be good.

Welcome to the Harpswell
edition of doors with Dixie.

Putting in...

...a lock set into Ted's new

French doors that he can open
right up.

Use his

pulley system to drag
whatever he wants

his tank, his gas, whatever...

propane tanks, groceries.

And then it closes right up.

And then, we put that one
on, full glass.

So, pretty much, it's

added a lot of light
into this place,
it was very dark.

We put one, two, three,
four, five, six, se--

Eight windows and then
two nice sized doors and
all glass.

So, uh,

it definitely should give him
plenty of light in here.

Ted and Terry,
asked for gardening beds,

so...

They wanted some raised
planters along
the frontage of the deck.

So they had a bunch of these
old lobster crates.

But they're not really
sturdy enough.

So,

what I thought I'd do is
take some of this scrap wood

and build a mock planter

to set on top of it where
we can put a plastic coat
inside of it,

fill it with potting soil and
then they can plant in those.

- Chop!
- Hey!

Terry loves gardening.
She started planting some
flowers and stuff, you know,

trying to secure
the shorelines.

So, again, this is the next
wide open space,

a good spot to do some
raised planters.

One planter done.

We've got about

five or six older crates, so,

we'll just make a few more
of them, get a plastic tote
and put it in there,

put some potting soil
in there,

and then, it's ready
for her flowers and stuff.

Dixie!

What's up,
whippoorwill?

You're a whippoorwill.

I'm really excited to get to
the job side today.

I haven't been to the camp
in a while.

It's kinda difficult to get
in out here with the tides

and the boat situation.

So, I'm excited
to get out here
and see what's going on

and get a feel
for what I need.

What's a whippoorwill?

Looks like a lobster boat
with a

stern sail.

You want me to mount it?

I was thinking of mounting it
on the roof, right?

What about
on one of the posts?

- One of these posts?
- Yeah.

We'll check it out later.
We'll take a vote.

- You do that.
- We'll ask everybody.

Look around and see
what you think
your options are.

I'm gonna go inside
and check it out.

And now, the inside needs
a lot of work, eh?

The outside
is way further along.

Dixie.

What the heck?

There's nothing done in here.

We are waiting on...

the solar.

We need to have the walls open
to be able to run electrical.

When's this happening?
We have eight days, don't we?

Yes.

We're at the end of week six
of the Wiederhorn camp

and I'm just really concerned

because the inside
is nowhere near finished.

Uh-oh.

Uh-oh.

What the heck?

There's nothing done in here.

We are waiting on...

the solar.

We need to have the walls open
to be able to run electrical.

When's this happening?
We have eight days, don't we?

Yes. This is very small.

It's not that big. It's only
12 by 24.

And most of the windows
take up a lot of space--

I know, I still need a couple
of days with my team.

No, I understand.

To clean, get in here
and stage it.

You're gonna have
a lot of fun bringing
all the stuff over here.

It's been a busy week
over in Harpswell at
the Wiederhorn camp.

We had the electrician
come up, rough in
the electricals,

so that we're able to
finish off the interior.

It's all done.

They finished off the deck,

put up railings,

and screened the porch,
everything got trimmed out.

So, we are

at the last week here
at Teddy's
here in Harpswell.

As you can see,
we've got a lot going on.

Jeff and
Great Northern's here,
putting in our kayak launch.

So, it's a very busy day.

Friends from the
Great Northern Docks came.

They put in a new ramp,
new float for a nice
kaya launch

right off the front of the
lobster shack.

It looks great
and it's very easy access.

This is killer.

Yeah, it will be. Definitely.

I wish it was here
eight weeks ago.

Yeah, yeah.

You know what, out on
an island, the camp is
off-grid.

So, Terry and Ted
have expressed interest
in having solar,

a little bit more reliable
power than just a generator.

So, Sheep's got
standard solar,

should be able to get them
set up,

so they've got something
that they'll be able to use

and have more than the power
year round.

Brad, BT, Jay,

the guys were able to get the
inside installation in.

They got the floors down,
walls closed in,

ceiling closed in,
windows trimmed out,

and railings around
the new decks.

That's a lot of work
for one week.

- Yeah.
- That was down to the wire.

They put in long days.

- Oh, boy.
- Hi!

Whoa!

So, the guys are
wrapping up the work day.

I have a project.

I found an old lobster crate
during the Wiederhorn
clean up.

There's not a lot of money
in the budget for me to be
buying new stuff.

So, I thought, that would make
a great coffee table.

Okay, I have a quick, quick,
quick project.

Sounds good.
What have you got?

I was just working on it
and I realized that I need
some tools.

And I saw you out here.

You came
to the right place.

Do you have a few minutes
to help me?

- I definitely do.
- Okay, cool.

What are we doing?

Jake is one of Ryan's old
college friends

who moved up here
and is now working with us.

I like the way that it looks.

But this side needs some--

Yeah, we can repair that.

I was thinking we could pull
these ones...

Yeah.

...down here,
put them up here.

Brilliant.

And then I grabbed
a couple of the old ones,

so we can cut these up.

Yup.

And then, what about the top?
What are you gonna do there?

The top, I have a piece
of glass already and I've
brought--

No doubt.

I have a few boards
that need to be replaced.

I need to sturdy it up.

One for West Gardiner.

While I am doing this,
would you wanna run and find
some paint work quick?

Yes, I will. I know
just where there is some.

Okay.

My original painting plan
was to get some paint,

and just slap it on,
and have a solid color.

Well Jake found some
spray paint. So I thought
I'll give it a try.

Oh, that actually looks
really, really nice.

And the way that the
old material

was taking the paint,
I loved the look of it.

And I'm so glad

that he brought out
that spray paint,

because it kinda sucked it in,

but it freshened it up.

But it kept that
authentic look.

I think that not having it
completely solid, looks good.

All right.

This guy goes up here.

Okay.

Wow!

Oh, look at it from here.

- Wow!
- Look how good that looks!

Oh!

It looks great!

That looks awesome!

And you know what,
it's not going anywhere.

It's not moving.

Cool!

I was a little bit nervous
coming into it,

but I'm pleasantly surprised
because, with two nails

in each board,

it sturdied it up really well.

And, that piece of glass
and the paint looks
so awesome.

All right, so--

I'm a believer.

Since you helped me with this,
I'll help you pick up.

- Okay, cool!
- Okay. Thank you.

Oh, although, this wouldn't
have happened unless you
came to me in the beginning.

All right.

Say, "Thanks for helping me
pick up your mess."

Thanks for helping me pick up
the mess that you created.

No problem.

It's kind of
a gray morning here,

but the sun's supposed to
come out this afternoon.

My team and I were able to
come down

once all this work got done

and just bring in all of the
beautiful decorations.

It's tough being on an island,

getting everything
back and forth.

You gotta make a lot of trips
on the boat.

But we're able to get
everything over here,

get the place done
and it looks great.

This should go right here. Perfect.

Perfect size too,
and the glass.

Chase!

- Yes?
- I'm here.

Great.

Check out this cute

little

coffee table I made.

- Looks good!
- Cool!

All right. Solar's all
working. Lights are on.

Cool!

Do you have any other jobs?

I just have to put up
a couple of more posts
and that's it.

I think I need to plant
the planters real quick.

I wanted to wait and bring out
the flowers until today.

And Chase is finishing up
a few things, his electrical.

And then we're ready
to give the camp back.

There they are!

Oh, wow! Look at this!

Wow.

We have our own dock!

That's great!

Finally!

They're coming.

There they are!

Hey!

Just coming across, seeing
the dock out,

seeing the screened-in porch
from afar,

was like,
that's definitely different.

Oh, it's so exciting!

And, uh...

But it just kept unfolding
as we got here.

Can you see that?

Oh, look at the kayak ramp
and it's--

Oh, my!
Look at this.

Look at the siding
on the side.

Oh, I can-- Oh,
look at it! Oh, my gosh,
the windows!

- You can see them now! They're big and beautiful!
- Oh, wow!

Look at that!

Hey guys!

Looks good!

Welcome back!

Oh, my gosh,
it looks great.

Can I dock on your dock?

- You absolutely can.
- You can dock on your dock.

Music to my ears!

The main dock
has been fixed which is great.

This dock is gonna be so much
fun to be able to swim off...

Pull in on a kayak,

unload my propane bottles.

Yeah, so, Great Northern Docks

installed this kayak float.

- Yeah.
- Oh, my gosh. This is gonna be fabulous.

Great ramp!

Nice ramp right up
to your entrance.

Aw!

Check this out!

Oh, we have a
screened-in porch!

Yeah! Go on in
and check it out!

Look at this!

Oh, I love the chairs.
Oh, my God!

It's a bug-free zone, baby.

Look,
we got screens! This is great!

That's cool! Wow.

- Aw!
- Show us more!

- Okay.
- I'm excited!

Let's head on into
your brand new lobster shack!

I don't think we can call it
a shack any longer.

- No? Can I go in?
- Head on in!

Aw!

Wow!

Oh, my gosh,
I love it!

Oh, it is
the Zen zone!

- Zen zone! Nice job!
- Yeah!

With lots of colors.

Check it out.
Oh, my gosh.

Aw! Look at this.

- Look at this.
- Yeah, oh, wow, wow, wow.

Little
bit different now.

Got the windows
installed, got a new
full-length glass door there,

French doors over here.

Walls are all insulated,
ceiling's insulated.

Oh!

Closed everything in
with pine and...

I was able to sneak
one of these lobster traps
off the island.

Oh, check it out!

Yeah, it was one of
the ones that was
in the junk pile.

Yeah!

Yeah, I recognize it's
original because of the old
numbers on it, yeah...

Yeah, DH coffin!

I put a little spray paint
on it and made the name pop.

- Oh, that's cool!
- What a great idea.

I thought it'll be
a cute little addition too.

This is really nice!

And look at this,
they kept the hall out.

Yeah,
we definitely wanted
to keep that.

Well, let's go. There's more
to see.

Oh, yeah?

You're not gonna
recognize it.

- Aw!
- Oh, wow!

Wow!

I mean, this was unusable.

Oh, that's for sure.

This was
a death trap.

Yeah, that definitely

pushed the guys' limits.

- That's for sure, but they did a fantastic job.
- Wow, wow, wow!

Securely framing it up
and getting it decked over.

Nice!

We got your
planters ready

and Chase built all these
custom planters for you.

Wonderful! My plants
are gonna be super,
super happy.

Wow! Oh, check out
the space here.

Dance party!

On the water!

- This is great!
- Aw!

And you can see the panels
up on your roof from there.

- Oh, my God!
- Oh, there they are!

Wow!

Check it out.

Yeah, he was able to
squeeze six up there,
so like--

They work perfect
on that sized roof.

- Yeah!
- Don't they?

- They really look great.
- Yeah, they do!

And, the amount of the space

you gained from clearing out
all the...

...old debris over there,
is pretty unbelievable.

It looks so clean!

Yeah!

Thank you!

I've never seen it
that way since I bought it, yeah.

So, you know, when we started
the project, access was
the big thing.

Right.

Got the floats in, got
access on the shore side
new float, new ramp...

Yeah.

...new pier. Then, we were
able to get started on
the lobster shack.

Yeah.

Looks great.

Yeah, and kinda
pictured a way and

got the deck finished off,
set your kayak ramp!

Yeah!

You guys got some planters.
You guys are ready
for the summer.

Thank you!

I'd say so, ripe
for the summer.

Absolutely.

I think we got
everything done, we just...

Have to hand the keys back.

Oh, that's right.

Thank you,
Cabin Masters,
for your fine work

and hard work that you've
transformed my property.

I thought about this for
well over a decade

and, you know,

you close your eyes one day
that looks one way, and you
open your eyes the next time,

and it's done. It's like

fantasy, dream recognized. Manifested.
