Lost in Space (2018–…): Season 3, Episode 8 - Episode #3.8 - full transcript

[alarm blaring]

[gasps]

- Those are civil defense alarms!
- Settle down.

Are we being attacked by robots?

Sorry, I don't have any information now.
Let's not overtax your new heart.

We're being attacked by robots.

He beat up three of them,
but not before they broke into the dam,

which turned off the shields,
which turned on the sirens.

So what are we gonna do?

"We"? No. Your condition is stable
as long as you stay in bed.

[groans] It's fine.

I mean it. If you overexert yourself,
you can suffer allograft rejection.

I know. And then my heart will fail.

- And then you'll die.
- So let's not do that.

Yeah... Yeah.

We both have mechanical hearts now.

[whirring]

We're gonna make it through this.

[woman] Time to contact, 98 minutes.

[Chancellor] We need that shield back up.

Our teams are assessing
the situation at the dam.

- They're drawing up recommendations.
- I was there. Here's my recommendation.

Those turbines are toast.

We don't have enough time
to get 'em repaired.

Who are you?

I'm an expert on things
that can't get repaired.

- I don't think that came out right.
- What are we supposed to do?

To start, we need 200 million watts
previously produced by the dam.

- Those turbines are irreplaceable.
- Turbines are just things that spin.

Anything that spins can generate energy.

Like a Jupiter's takeoff
and landing engine.

Yes, exactly!
We get a bunch of tiny spinning things

to add up to the three
giant, irreplaceable ones.

To pull this off, we need every Jupiter
on the colony to fly here immediately.

- You'll plug them all into the city?
- [Maureen] Yes.

The grid will overheat instantly.

Not if you cool the cables
with liquid helium.

Uh... You have enough.
I've already checked.

What if your plan doesn't work?
Will the Jupiters still be flightworthy?

No. Once you jury-rig the engines,
the ships are grounded.

There's no going back.

So the alien robots, you still have
one of their engines, correct?

Yes. We have one on the Jupiter 2.
Why do you ask?

I can't gamble on this.

As far as I can tell, that alien
technology is the only chance we have.

There are other Alpha Centauris out there.

Madam Chancellor,
these robots are relentless.

Wherever we go, they will find us.

We can't use their engine again.

That's what got us
in this mess in the first place.

To win, we need to use our own tools,
things that make us different from them.

Our smarts,

our resourcefulness,

and our courage.

That's how we beat them.

[epic music playing]

[Ava] Jupiter 17, tighten your approach!

We're all gonna have to get cozy here,
so don't worry about your paint job!

Don't wait for them to land!
Keep those cables running!

Hey. I heard you need extra hands.

Uh, yeah, sure.

- You got enough slack?
- I'm good.

All right.

[indistinct chatter]

[grunting]

So, uh, John, uh...

[man] All nonessential personnel,
please report to evacuation stations.

The kids will be leaving soon.

[man] Robinson, help out!

Yeah, I'm coming.

I'll be back.

[dramatic music playing]

[whirring]

[man on PA] The first convoy of children
and medical evacuees is leaving now.

[woman] Come on. Right this way.

It's all clear.

Are you looking for your evacuation group?

I know exactly where I'm going.

[indistinct chatter]

[woman on PA] Kendall Lambert
is cleared to travel with evac group 4.

[man speaking indistinctly]

Time to contact, 20 minutes.

How close are we
to getting that shield up?

It's tight, but at the rate the Jupiters
are being plugged in, we're on pace.

Good.

[Smith] Maureen, hey,
do you have a minute?

Not really.

I... I just wanna know our odds.

Everyone's working hard to increase them.

Goodbye, Smith.

[Smith] Wait, wait, wait. Maureen,
you're the only person who can help me.

[sighs]

Are we gonna make it or not?

When I was a little girl, I used to spend
nights looking up at the stars.

I knew there was some other world
out there waiting for me.

Getting there seemed impossible,

but here I am.

Our odds are worse than usual,
but we are going to make it,

because we have to.

Thanks, Maureen.
That's all I need to know.

From your perspective,
this must seem pretty bad,

but you have to understand the situation.

If we're gonna believe Maureen Robinson,

then the sun is gonna rise
on a quiet patch of land that's all mine.

This is my only chance of getting that.

[Robot] Help Dr. Smith.

[Smith] Help who?

And don't say family. I don't have one.

So whoever you want me to help,
the answer is no.

[Robot] Help Dr. Smith.

[ethereal music playing]

[accelerating music playing]

[power tools whirring]

[tool clanking]

They'll be okay. Judy's with them.

[dramatic music playing]

[beeps]

This is Judy Robinson.
Just checking on Will's status.

His condition is unchanged.
Holding steady.

[sighs]

Does anyone have any idea
where they're sending us?

I heard we're headed to a copper mine.

It's also where the first colonists buried
their MMRTGs when they got green energy.

So they're hiding us
with the nuclear waste?

Maybe it won't be so bad.
How nuclear is the waste?

We shouldn't be evacuating.
We should be pitching in.

I feel like the powers that be
don't recognize how excellent we are.

I agree.

I mean, didn't we save all our parents?

We did.

And then we ran away from robots.

We're good at running away.

[deep rumbling]

[intense humming and whirring]

[Don] The last wave of Jupiters
is landing now.

[Maureen] Great, Don.
Get them plugged in as fast as you can.

- [man] Ready!
- [Don] Stop, stop, stop, stop! Stop!

No! You never, ever
plug the in into the out!

You're gonna draw all the power
back to the Jupiter!

You'll turn it into a giant bug zapper

and then you're gonna
fry everyone touching it!

What were you thinking?

Well, good job, really.
Thank you. Proud of you.

[power humming]

[man] We've achieved minimum power.

Activating shields.

- EMF towers coming online now.
- Okay, that's a start.

But we won't have total coverage
until every Jupiter is plugged in.

[man] Shield coverage at 65%.

[woman] Incoming target
is maintaining course.

They're not pulling up?

They're accelerating.
3,000 kilometers per hour.

4,000.6,000.9,000.

They must have detected
our shield coming up.

They're trying to squeeze through.

[man] Shield coverage at 85% and climbing.

I'm plugging the last one in now.

- Please tell me it's enough.
- [Maureen] It's gonna be close.

[man] Shield coverage at 90%.

Recalculating time to contact.

[buzzing]

Ten seconds.

Nine, eight,

seven, six,

five...

...two, one.

[whirring]

Shields are up. Did they make it through?

Operations to convoy. What's your status?

[screeching interference]

What is that sound?

It means our radios are useless now

because the robots are here.

[gasping]

[groans, gasps]

[doctor] Will, are you okay?

- Yeah.
- [girl screams]

[doctor] I need to go to see if anyone
needs help. There may be injuries.

Stay inside the Chariot.
You'll be safe in here.

[screaming and yelling]

[whirring]

[people screaming]

Anyone see where our driver went?

[indistinct yelling]

Isn't that him?

- Why is everybody running?
- They're coming!

- We need to get out of here.
- Agreed.

[colonists yelling]

- Come on.
- Come on. Come on!

[grunts]

- [indistinct yelling]
- [panting]

What's that new face mean?

You want the engine.

Of course you want the engine.
You always want the engine. But why now?

[foreboding music playing]

It seems like we'd be on Alpha Centauri
in time for dinner if you switched it on.

[Robot] Danger.

No meteor would be large enough
to create that kind of destruction.

Agreed.

Then what did?

[SAR] I killed them.

[panting]

[colonists screaming]

Somebody! Somebody help, please!

We need to keep the engine away from them!

Stop, please!

[indistinct yelling]

[grunts]

[automated voice] Warning,
please reinsert IV.

[beeping]

- [grunts]
- Warning, status compromised.

- Warning, risking critical heart failure.
- [grunts, pants]

Please return to the bed.
Please return to the bed.

Please return to the bed.

[indistinct yelling]

Will!

Excuse me! Excuse me!

[panting]

[groans]

Will? Will! Oh my God.
You shouldn't be out here.

- It's the robot engines.
- I'm gonna get you out...

They can use them as weapons.

What are you talking about?

Their engines rip holes in space.

Know what it would do
if it was sitting on a planet?

- I have no idea.
- You've already seen it.

The planet we were stranded on,

the one with all the meteors
and the giant missing piece.

You mean the one where
the guys before us went extinct?

You have to keep that engine
away from them.

Okay, um, I'm gonna get Judy.

No! There's no time.

It's gotta be you.

Will, I can't.

Penny.

[grunts]

Hey. Listen to me.

I know you better than you know yourself.

You're smart, brave,
and you're stronger than you think.

You can do this.

[chuckles]

[sighs]

Okay.

Okay, fine.

Just you stay here...

and don't get any worse.

[uplifting music playing]

[dramatic music playing]

[Penny] Just going out
for a little stroll.

[sighs]

Just another day on Alpha Centauri.

- [robot whirring]
- [Penny sighs]

The sun is shining,
just like in the brochure,

and definitely not surrounded by smoke.

[robot whirring]

No burning spaceship wreckage.

Definitely no robots.

I have invested so much time
and energy in two years

trying not to touch alien objects,

yet here I am.

[sighs]

[grunts]

[thumping and whirring]

[gasps]

- [Judy] Penny?
- Oh, thank God you're here.

I'm trying to help injured people,

and I see you wandering
through a disaster area.

We need to keep this far away from them.
The robots can use it as a bomb.

Like, a big one.
I guess it can rip holes in space.

Okay. Quit explaining. Let's do it.

[Judy grunts, pants]

- Come on, grab the other side.
- [Penny] Okay.

[grunts]

- [panting]
- [Judy] Okay...

[low rumbling]

- [growls]
- Whoa! [grunts]

Don't worry. It's stuck under there.
Let's keep going.

[grunting]

Penny!

- [panting]
- [robot whirring]

[gasps] Penny, come on!

[grunts]

- [gasping]
- [Judy] What are you doing?

[Judy grunting]

[trilling softly]

[clanking and whirring]

[Judy] Penny!

[Penny] You're dying, aren't you?

[Judy grunting, panting]

- Penny, come on!
- Okay, I'm coming.

Penny, there's no time. Just leave it!

Okay, I'm not gonna hurt you,
so watch it with the claws.

[grunting]

[whirring]

[grunts]

I'm Penny Robinson, by the way.

[chittering]

[Penny] Uh...

And I don't want any trouble.

[shuddering] So this is how the book ends.

[Liam] Penny!

[Vijay] You said she was right behind you.

[Samantha] Look.

Hi, do you have a name?

Robot... Robot's already taken.

Can I call you Sally?

You look like a Sally.

[Vijay] Penny?

Penny. What did you do?

I helped her.

That's it?

When I saw her struggling,
I thought about how when I need help,

I have my family, and I have my friends,

but she didn't have anybody.

None of them do.

[whirring softly]

Oh.

Come on. We gotta help them too.

[Judy grunting, panting]

[whirring]

I won't make this easy for you.

[dramatic music playing]

I don't have the words for this.

That's okay. That's my department.

This changes everything.

[Robot] Help Will Robinson.

[Vijay] Hey.

I need to tell you something.

What?

I told you so. [chuckles]

[romantic music playing]

[Penny] You've gotten better at it.

[Sally] Trouble, Penny Robinson.

You're saying I'm trouble?

[Sally] Trouble.

Oh, in trouble.
We're gonna work on prepositions.

[Penny gasps]

[growling]

We need to keep this engine
away from them.

But you already knew that.

Be careful, Sally.

[dramatic music playing]

[shivering]

[gasps]

[exciting music playing]

Oh...

[sighs] Hey.

[grunts]

Yeah, I know.

It's bad, but... had a lot of work to do.

Yes, Will Robinson.

[Will sighs]

[groans]

[grunts] So, who's flying the ship?

[clicking]

Buckle up.

You sure about this?

I'm perfectly capable
of piloting this Jupiter...

assuming the flight manuals I read
were up-to-date.

[engines powering up]

[grunts]

[epic music playing]

[grunting]

[sighs]

Jupiter 2 to Penny and Judy Robinson.

We're coming to get you
and that engine out.

We are?

[explosion]

[Will] We're on our way.
I just need you to send me your location.

Negative, Jupiter 2. Do not approach.
You'll be shot out of the sky.

[rumbling]

What's your status?

We're cut off from the convoy,
but we're okay where we are.

- Will, shouldn't you be in an ambulance?
- [Will] I'm fine.

My heart's indestructible now.

By the way, you gave me an idea.

A big one.

Do Mom and Dad know?

Systems back online.

Okay. Switch to the satellite view.
Show us the road out of town.

[woman] Affirmative.
Getting it on the display.

[Chancellor] Are those robots...
on the ground?

They're fighting each other.

That's good news, right?

Jupiter 2 to operations.
This is Will Robinson.

- Will?
- Will?

Who's piloting the ship?

I am, Maureen.

Smith?

Why is everyone making
such a big deal out of this?

- [John] Will...
- Listen.

There's not much time.

Penny and Judy
have the engine from SAR's ship.

It has to be kept from him,
no matter what.

It could destroy the planet.

- Yeah. We can do that.
- No, you can't go off alone again!

I'm not alone this time, Mom.

[whirring softly]

I think I finally know
how to end this war.

SAR was wrong...

and so was I.

Robot and I aren't a fluke.
Penny just proved that.

Every robot can be free.

Someone just has to make them see that.

Just...

Just hold on till Robot gets back.

- Robot?
- What about you?

Fingers crossed.

- [beeps]
- [John] Will?

- No!
- Will?

John, his heart can't take the strain.

Hey. He told us to hold on,
so that's what we're gonna do.

But first things first.

Let's get our kids out of there. Come on.

So, where are we going?

[accelerating music playing]

- [panting]
- [explosions]

[robots whirring]

Okay. Okay. I think we're losing.

I know.

[John] Judy, Penny, if you can hear us,

we're coming to get you and the engine
out of there.

Meet us at the main road.

Our ride's here!
All right, keep your heads down.

[whirring]

[Judy panting]

- Dad! Okay. Okay.
- [John] Come on. Hurry!

- [Penny] Here you go.
- [Maureen] Quick!

- [Judy] Let's go.
- [Penny] Okay. I'm in.

- [John] You okay?
- [Maureen] Come on. Let's go.

[sighs] We're gonna need to find someplace
to put that thing.

Somewhere the robots can't get to it.

[explosions]

So, when we were plugging all the Jupiters
into the city grid,

you know that one thing that
you're never, ever, ever supposed to do?

You mean plugging the in in the out?

We're doing it.

Yeah.

[whirrs]

[snarls]

[adventurous music playing]

[grunting]

You really should be lying down.

Same difference.

[Smith] What is this place?

[Robot] Home.

Is anyone else worried
there might be a lot of robots here?

There better be.

[panting]

You're one of them.

They'll listen to you.

[whirring softly]

[inhales sharply]

I knew you wouldn't come here without me.

[sighs]

But now you have to finish this.

Tell them everything.

[sighs]

[Maureen] Since that engine is shut off,
the robots can't sense it,

so they're searching Jupiter to Jupiter.

The J65. That's us.

That's Don.

And that's them.

[Don] Maureen, we're in.
Sealing the door now.

You have trouble finding it?

It was in the scrapyard
scheduled for recycling.

Yeah, the powers that be had it towed
because it wasn't street-legal anymore.

Still got a few miles left in it.
I can relate.

- Let's hope we don't need it.
- [Don] Okay, everybody.

I'm at the substation.
I hope you guys are nice and snug inside.

[Maureen] We're good, Don. We're ready.

Okay, in into the out.

At the count of one.

[groans]

Hey, Don, we're not electrified yet.

- What's happening?
- [groans]

Slight hiccup. [groans]

Is that a hiccup you can fix?

No problem.
I just have to resolder the capacitor.

Where is it?

Oh!

Oh, no, no, no, no!

No! Why would anyone put a grate here?

Gah! [pants]

They're getting close.

Come on, Don.

You're not gonna let your family die
'cause you can't connect a wire.

[Penny] Uh, they're all over the Jupiter
right next to us.

Don, if you have any tricks
up your sleeve, now is the time.

Oh!

[laughs]

Mmm! Oh, once a roughneck,
always a roughneck!

[thumping]

[whirring]

[thumping]

- Now!
- [electricity crackling]

[screeching]

[gasping]

[Maureen] Thanks, Don!
We're good, for now.

[Don sighs] Oh, great.

They're not gonna just give up
because their buddies got zapped.

Don, you did what you could.

Now try and find some cover. Stay safe.

See you on the other side.

Okay, let's settle in.

The electrical field will hold

until the fuel
powering the Jupiters runs out.

How long will that be?

Till Will gets back.

[Smith, echoing] Will... stay awake.

[Will gasping]

[whimpering]

[Smith] We're here,
but they don't seem too happy to see him.

The robot's drawing pictures.

It's the story of the two of you.

How you met.

How you changed him.

Will, he's drawing something new.

I think it's a picture of your sister
doing what you did.

Bonding with the robot.

They're not listening.

They're leaving.

[whirring]

[gasping] Is there anything you can do?

[thunder crashing]

[thrilling music playing]

[thunder rumbling]

[Robot] Trust, Will Robinson.

[dramatic music playing]

[lightning zapping]

[Will gasping]

No.

No.

No.

No. [gasps]

What did you do?

- [Smith gasps]
- [footsteps approaching]

Why did he do that?
He shouldn't have done that!

[Smith] You know why.

[wind whistling]

Let's get you back to the ship.

I can still feel him.

[Smith] He's gone.

I'm sorry.

Let's go.

[steady bleeping]

The last thing he said to me...

was "trust."

Maybe he was trusting us
to go on... without him.

According to this, I'm...
I'm completely healed.

[heart beating]

That's a piece of Robot.

I think he put that there
when he put his hand on your heart.

He saved me.

He saved me too.

[gasps] How?

Back in the med facility,

I was about to do something
you can't... ever come back from.

I didn't think I had a choice,
but the robot gave me one.

I thought he was asking for help,

but he was there to help me.

He knew what I needed.

He's always seemed to know
what we both needed.

[alien humming]

[rumbling and whirring]

[Smith panting]

[multiple robots whirring]

[warbling]

[Smith] Is that sound coming from them?

- [warbling continues]
- It's a command.

To do what?

[foreboding music playing]

[roaring]

[snarling]

[automated voice]
Primary fuel reservoir depleted.

Switching to reserve fuel supply.

Reserve fuel level at 10%.

Reserve fuel level at 9%.

I heard that, among your various skills
of soldiering and growing corn,

that you worked on
second-grade research projects.

Judy tell you that?

Everyone thought I was gone,
but you kept me alive for her.

- A lot of guys wouldn't have done that.
- You were a fallen hero.

The most decorated astronaut in history.

Sitting at the kitchen table

writing your résumé
on a big piece of cardboard

with markers
that smelled like strawberries.

First man to Mars.

[whirring]

First man to... leave the solar system.

First in a lot of things.

I had some big shoes to fill.

Markers that smelled
like strawberries, huh?

Sounds nice.

It was.

All those firsts don't seem like much
compared to what I missed.

Took me a while to figure that out too.

[automated voice]
Reserve fuel level critical.

We're out of fuel.

- [lights flickering]
- [power fading]

[robots whirring and thumping]

[growling]

[Maureen] Go!

[screeching]

[John] Come on, hurry. Kids, get in.

- You know the plan?
- [Grant] Yeah, we're ready.

[both grunt]

Take care of our kids.

Be careful!

[accelerating music playing]

[roaring]

- [John yells]
- You drive!

[panting]

[screeching]

[both gasp]

Hey. Uh...

I saw there's, uh,
an Italian restaurant near the park.

- Really?
- Yeah.

You think they make decent gnocchi?

How about when this is all over,
we could find out?

Just you and me.

I would love that.

[explosion]

[plaintive music playing]

John.

John!

[yelps]

[gasps]

Oh!

[huffs, inhales]

[exhales]

Someday, I'm gonna see you up close.

It looks different
from up here, doesn't it?

Yeah.

When I was your age,
I used to dream about being up here.

But it's even better than I imagined.

- Yeah?
- Yeah.

'Cause it's with you
and your sisters and your dad.

[yells]

[grunts]

Ow.

[grunting]

Hey!

You know Will Robinson?

I'm his mother.

You're next.

[yells]

[groans]

- [Maureen grunts]
- [groans]

[bleeping]

[John] It's from Will.

[engines humming]

[gasps]

- [engines humming]
- I know those engines.

[dramatic music playing]

[sighs]

[sighs]

[SAR whirring]

Will Robinson.

[whirring command playing]

[command repeating]

[command repeating]

[SAR howling]

[command repeating]

[SAR groaning]

[thrilling music playing]

[screeching]

You need to turn it off.

[SAR] No.

Turn it off now!

[SAR] Kill masters.

Kill heart.

He's gonna take us down with him.

Will!

Will, no!

[exhales]

Trust, Will Robinson.

He knew you'd go for my heart again.

And I trust him.

[screeches]

[Will] I'm okay.

Robot?

[humming]

Robot, is that you?

[dramatic music playing]

[power fading]

[epic music playing]

[Robot] Safe, family.

[sighs]

[exhales]

[gasps]

So less than 24 hours
after the Robinsons get here,

Alpha Centauri is trashed.

I'm not saying there's a connection,
but it doesn't look good.

[laughing]

I... see it as an opportunity
to build it better a second time.

That's gonna be one hell of a to-do list.

[epic music continues]

[Don] I could use a hug about now.

- [Penny laughs]
- [Don] Anyone?

[Penny] I guess it's my job
to write the epilogue.

That's fine. As jobs go, it's pretty easy.

I just sit in a chair
and scribble on a piece of paper

while Mom's in orbit

building another spaceship
to replace the Resolute.

She's assisted by super-advanced beings
whose technology still seems like magic.

[Maureen] Well...

[Penny] And also Don.

- Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But if...
- Right there.

Yes, I know. But if we move stuff...

Just take this. Here you go. Heads up.

[laughing]

[sighs]

[Penny] Once the robots were freed
from their old programming,

they could do whatever they wanted.

Most left and didn't feel the need
to tell us where they were going.

Now they're writing their own commands,
they're all different. Just like we are.

[gentle whirring]

For her part, once she was reassembled,
again, Sally left almost immediately.

I was disappointed at first,
then I realized she's just a girl

who's not afraid
to go find her place in the universe.

I like to think she got that from me.

I've never seen Dad this relaxed.

They say that, more than anyone else,
soldiers appreciate the value of peace.

Judy hasn't slowed down,

but I think she finally realized
that she has nothing to prove to anyone.

I haven't seen Dr. Smith for a while,
which makes me nervous.

[knocking on door]

[steady bleeping]

You're looking better.

You may have got rid of the evidence,

but I still know what you did
and who you really are.

[scoffs]

You think I'll fall for
the same trick twice?

It's not a trick.

It's a confession.

[man] Prisoner 002, you have a visitor.

Hmm.

Did you bake me a cake with a file in it?

I don't bake.

And you don't need a file.

[breathes deeply]

When I was reviewing the passenger list
for Solidarity's maiden voyage from Earth,

I came across the name... Jessica Harris,

authorized by Dr. Zoe Smith.

Who is she?

My sister...

technically.

She's disowned me.

Then she doesn't know who you really are.

I'm not sure I know
who I am at this point.

I do.

When you get out of here,

look me up.

[Judy] Mom! Come on!
Dinner's gonna get cold!

[Grant] We'll see how it turned out.

The recipe didn't account for hybrid corn,
so I had to improvise.

Of course you did.

Sorry we're late.
Debbie got into a fight with a goat.

[laughter]

[Penny] Wow!

Everything smells amazing! That's
the first time I've said that in a while.

Yeah. Civilization is nice, right?

We're not even planning
to leave this galaxy.

- Did you okay this?
- It's the first I've heard of it.

I've already logged
over a hundred hours of flight time, and...

and this time I won't be alone.

[Robot] Trust Will Robinson.

[sighs]

Okay, just be home by Christmas.

We will be. Don't worry.

- I promise!
- [Debbie clucking]

[chuckling] Guys, I promise.

[sighing] Okay.

All right. I'm starving.

Don't you wanna say grace?

- [Don] Can we start?
- [John] Yeah.

[laughter and chatter]

Thank you.

Pass it down.

[Don] Oh yeah. Is this for me?

It's easier to do it that way.

Hey! Slow down! Slow down!

[Penny] Will said, "Don't worry.
I promise I'll be home for Christmas."

But we all know things don't always
work out the way we plan.

The end.

Of chapter one.

[sighs] This is Will Robinson of the first
Human-Robot Exploratory Group.

I don't know exactly
where we are right now...

but it's beautiful.
