Lego Masters (2020–…): Season 2, Episode 4 - Hats Incredible! - full transcript

The teams create wearable hats made entirely of LEGO bricks, then model their designs on the runway.

Will: Last week on
"lego masters,"

we shook things up
with an earthquake challenge.

911, what's your emergency?

On shaky ground
for the first time,

zack and wayne activated
the golden brick

to stave off elimination.

It doesn't look
like a strong
structure to me.

Three teams
rocked our world...

It's still standing!

...And survived an 11
on the brickter scale.

Level 11!

But three other teams
came crashing back to earth.

- It's going off
on the next level.
- Level eight.

And it was the father-son duo
tim and zach

who had to say good-bye.

You should hold your head proud.
You really did a great job.

I love you, dad.

Tonight,
we're hitting the runway.

This week's challenge
is all about fashion.

- Ooh.
- Uh-oh.

Each team will build
a wearable work of lego fashion.

The builds-- so hot.

The phoenix has risen.

- The models...
- Work it, girl.

...Even hotter.

Less work on your hat,
more work on your model face.

The tension-- scorching.

- No!
- Oh, no!

We asked for drama
and we got it.

Let's figure out
what we can do.

Maybe we'll find a way
to put some sort of

- That could be fun.
- Oh, a panache.

- Yeah.
- Panache.

It can have, like,
a teardrop-- like, big,

and then kind of, like,
off to a point on one side.

So, what if there's
a coiled snake on the top?

- Yeah, coiled snake.
- And ready to strike.

I'm down with that.

Pink is very true
to the caribbean.

I don't know if you're
familiar with carnival.

Headdresses are
a big part of that.

In my experience
as a jamaican,

so much of carnival
is a part of our annual
tradition,

so I wanted to bring that
tradition to the runway.

So, we decide to make
a carnival hat.

We're trying to recreate
large feathers.

It's very colorful,
it's very vibrant.

- The more extravagant,
the better.
- Okay.

It makes sense for me
to take the lead
in this challenge

because I have a lot
of creative inspiration.

I'm worried about
stability of feathers.

- Sure.
- Because they're
long and thin.

Yeah.
Balancing would be tough.

Well, we're over an hour in.

We have to make sure
it fits my noggin,
which is kind of...

- Funny-shaped? Oh.
- No, it's a big size.

Bring me up to speed
about what is going on with
this challenge here today.

One thing we definitely
don't want to see

is a lego model
being put on someone's head.

We want it to be designed
to be a hat,

designed for the runway,
and have that real
fashion factor.

When you walk,
the whole thing is gonna
start doing this.

Normally,
they start on a flat surface
and they gotta build it up.

This can be organic,
it can be flowy.

There can be
so many opportunities

to really make this
come to life.

And they have to actually
walk down the runway with this.

Ooh, jeez. Aah!

So there is a chance
they could break

or fall off on the runway,
and that would really
be a disaster.

We have to act as if
the last challenge
wasn't even there, right?

Sure, sure.

Zack and wayne are
coming off a crazy week.

- Yes.
- Yeah.

Will: I wonder
if this is something

that they could really make
a big comeback on.

We know they can build,

but can they build
for fashion?

Can they build imaginatively?

- Hi, guys.
- Moto, paras.

- Hey.
- Are you excited?

- Are you kidding me?
- I'm terrified and excited,

because I've done a wearable
and it took a considerable
amount of time.

Tell us a bit
about your catwalk look.

Storywise, we're making
an outdoorsman hat.

We're gonna coil
a snake going up,

so the idea is that
we're bringing the outdoor
jungle to the urban jungle.

Any thoughts on what type
of shapes you're going for?

I'm really thinking,
if it's fabric-ish,
it's flowy, it's curved.

You do how to think
about how the structure's
gonna hold up

through the catwalk run
and give the effect

and the wow factor
that you're looking for here.

All right, good luck, guys.
We look forward to seeing
what you do.

- We're excited.
- Do you want to split it up?

Like, I'll try to do
the top of the hat
and you'll do the rim?

I'd like us to be able
to do it together.

I know you want us
to work on it together,

but we may have to
split the tasks.

Okay.

Oh! Did I get that right
the first time?

You like a little angel.
Look at that.

- Slightly too small.
- Too small?

- That fits nice.
- That looks good, too.

- Hello, zack, wayne.
- How you doing?

Tell us a little bit
about your vision.

Something simple.
My brother's an archery coach,

so I'd like to reflect that.

We're both archers,

but my brother wayne
is a master.

Okay, you're better.

My brother really loves
talking about me

and gives me all the accolades,
but for this challenge,

this is a time
where I can show off
exactly what he can do, too.

So we're building
a robin hood hat with panache.

I love your inspiration.
I think here we're looking
for a runway look.

- And for me that means drama.
- Uh-huh.

You're going
so smooth and so clean,

you don't want it
to become boring.

We are not fashionistas.

- Keep at it.
Thanks a lot.
- Thank you.

But together
we can attack anything,
even fashion.

- Mark and steven.
- What's up, will?

How are you guys feeling
after last week's challenge?

- Not terrific.
- Not terrific.

We were expecting
great things from our tower

and it was
in the bottom three.

You guys are great builders.

Maybe a fashion challenge
is just the thing

- to get you back on top.
- Exactly.

Talk to me about
this week's challenge.

We are planning on building

a big pirate admiral hat.

Steven:
Growing up, we were minutes
from the beach.

We played pirates.
We had pirate hats.

So it's gonna fit
into that nautical theme.

And this guy's
gonna be wearing it
because he's got the beard.

He's got
the buccaneer look going.

He does have
the buccaneer look going.

So, here's what I want to say.

You're gonna need
to have your model face.

- Oh, yeah.
- Do you have it ready?

- That's pretty good.
- Eyebrows are what
I'm banking on.

- We got some work to do.
- Yeah, we'll practice.

That's how big
it has to be?

- How does it feel?
- I mean, I can walk.

Hello! Good to see you,
natalie, michelle.

- Hello.
- How's it going?

Well, first when we saw black,
we both immediately were like,

"audrey hepburn.
'breakfast at tiffany's.'"

okay, but we need to be
dramatic and whimsical,

so, like, where do
those things meet?

So, the idea is we're gonna
kind of make a top hat

that's asymmetrical,
with some feathers.

And then our plan
is to have these sticking out--

whoops-- the top,
with some spinney
action up here.

I love the asymmetry
of your design.

My first thought
does go to balance.

As it is now,
they're a little bit
wobbly already,

so we're trying to---
we're trying to figure that out.

But excited
about your concept so far,

what we're seeing on the table.

Time is running though,
and there is a lot
to do in this challenge.

We're gonna leave you to it.

- Good luck.
- Both: Thank you.

We need to figure out
our top situation

because I don't want it
to be, like, a cop-out.

Natalie:
We want to do
something to stand out

and so we're gonna try and
get some movement in there.

- That is great.
- Way crazy.

Oop!

I'm nervous.
What if it all falls apart?

We're taking a gamble
if this doesn't work
the way that we planned.

There's no way that
that is stable enough.

( groans )

what if it all falls apart?

For this week's challenge,
we are working on our
asymmetrical top hat.

Yeah, it is kind of wobbly.

I feel like the biggest
challenge is gonna be
balancing everything.

Because at some point
I'm gonna have to take

my hands off of it
for five seconds.

People think that
five seconds is like,
"one, two, three, four, five."

it is not. You gotta go,
"one mississippi,

two mississippi,
three mississippi,

four mississippi,
five mississippi."

hoping that I have some
stability in here finally.

All right, um,
just the plate layer to go.

I don't want this
too heavy on my head.

We will do the best we can.

It's gonna get
a lot heavier on top.

But we'll do our best
to support it, okay?

- Cool.
- Okay.

So, we got the color red.
We think red means fire.

And with fire, I immediately
think of a phoenix.

This hat is going to have
a phoenix rising from the ashes

in the center of it.

Okay, ready for stress test?

Looks like
it's holding up, right?

Lauren:
It is holding up well.

Whoops.

So that's what
we don't want to happen.

- Yes.
- Okay.

Gotta make sure
we make it real strong

'cause the last thing
you want to happen
is your hat to fall off.

For our carnival headdress,
we're trying to
recreate feathers.

Really, really
large feathers.

- Hey! Oh, my goodness.
- Oh, my gosh. Richard, dave.

- Coming in hot.
- Speaking of which.

- Hot pink.
- Here we go.

- Demonstrate, please.
- We're gonna have an array.

Those are heavy, man.

- Richard: It is heavy.
- Dave: It's heavy.

Hopefully, we're pretty
good at structures.

- I mean, that's showing
a lot of confidence.
- Yeah.

I believe in no risk,
no reward.

If you want to make something
that's going to stand out
on the runway,

it has to stand out
on the runway.

What we wanted to do
was take from the inspiration

of, like,
Sunday's best, right?

So it's bold, it's vibrant,
it's full of colors.

Both of our grandmothers
were church ladies.

We definitely plan
on shouting them out.

I grew up as a shorty
watching my grandmother
get dressed to go places.

And so not only am I really
excited about this challenge,

but it also gives me an

to jessie mae jones-doherty,

and combine it
with an egyptian theme--

super regal, royal--
and give you something magical.

to build a giant chef's hat.

- Oh, yeah.
- Do you have your

and just throw it

- Throw it.
- Okay, you ready?

- Three, two, one, throw it.
- ♪ oh, yeah

- really good.
- You gotta have
some swing to it.

- No, yeah.
- Will you show him

- Okay, okay.
- ♪ oh, yeah

transfer that attitude.
It's all about attitude,
you guys.

- Oh, boy.
- Attitude, man.

It's that-- ooh!

- Is that the tallest feather?
- Yes.

So, we're making
a huge feathered hat.

My inspiration was a picture
of my great grandmother
from forever ago.

The technical
part of this build is key

so that I can strut
my stuff on the runway

without this thing
shattering on the floor.

We're running out of parts,
aren't we?

It's not parts
we're running out of.
It's time we're running out of.

Four hours.

Looking around
the room right now,

don't have
a ton of time left.
What do you think?

I think we're really excited
to see natalie and michelle.

It's fresh in that they chose
to go asymmetrical.

They really need
to think about how they
design it cleverly

so they can
actually wear it.

- I don't want it to fall.
- Right.

I'm losing track of where I am.

Moto and paras,
I'm a little bit concerned
about them.

Execution is always their issue.

They have the technical ability
to pull this off,

but it's all gonna hinge
on being able to attach
these many pieces.

I'm working on the height.
You're working on the distance.

The worst case is
bringing it together

at the last three hours
or something.

One thing we've learned
is that if you wait too long

to try to bring
all the pieces together,

you can often be surprised.

Paras:
It's all about going, going,
going, going, going.

Moto:
Jam it together
and get it done.

This might be
a horrible mistake.

I don't think I've ever
worked a piece of art
this fast before.

For this challenge,
we're asking our teams
to make a wearable hat.

This is extremely challenging

because the hat needs
to support itself.

Feel that for a minute.

That means it needs
to be strong,

but it also needs to be
perfectly balanced

so it doesn't
crash to the floor.

It's the tipping
that's gonna get us.

These things
in the back of my head
are super pokey.

I have, like, 9,000
of these left to do.

Randall and syreeta.

- What's up?
- Tell us what's happening
with your hat.

So, what we're inspired by
is when you go to church,

you see essentially
all the grandmas
in their Sunday best.

So, what they come for
are the hats.

So, we were like,
"what if we do
a combination plate?"

and we partnered
that with kind of
an egyptian theme

of, like, a headdress.

So, grandma
and then the egyptian theme.

So there's a contrast there
that I just want to make sure--

can you marry the two
or do you have to kind of

- at some point
go one way or the other?
- Choose one or the other?

- Got it. Okay.
- Okay.

Good things to consider.

We have a challenge
in front of us.

I'm just hoping that
at this point it doesn't fall.

One goal. Don't fall.

Hopefully this doesn't
land us in the bottom two.

How do we be intentional
about tying in our story?

- Mm-hmm.
- Um, I don't know.
Let's figure it out.

Hey, guys.
Hey, moto. Hey, paras.

- Both: Hi.
- Tell me about your build.

The snake is looking good.

We've got a plan
for bending this
and shaping it.

Now it's a matter
of integration.

- What do you think?
- I think it's really cool.

- You do?
- Yeah.

But you're gonna have
to walk in with it.

- Yes.
- Right?

- So that's gonna be on top.
- Let's do a quick test.
We haven't had a chance.

- So, this is a good time.
- Okay, be careful.

Oh, jeez.
So, how are you gonna hold it?

- It's gonna want to
come forward, isn't it?
- Absolutely, yeah.

Once it's up,
that's gotta be fastened

really tightly
into that helmet

because if there
is any sort of play,

it's gonna start tipping.

It's gonna take
a lot of support
in the front and back.

- That's the next stage.
- Okay. Great job, you guys.

- Thanks, will.
- Really looking
forward to it.

- How's it look like that?
- It's too high up.

I should have made the hat
a little bit wider.

- We don't have
a lot of time, okay?
- Mm-mm.

Gotta get
all this stuff placed.

- Yo, natalie's?
That one is hard.
- ( loud banging )

randall:
Yeah, I want to know
what that's about.

- Yeah, it definitely
looks couture for sure.
- ( chuckles )

why don't you practice walking?

Richard:
Oh, look at that.

Their thing on
the top spins. Wow.

It's still bouncing quite a bit,
but it's not bad.

It looks beautiful.

- I worry about stability.
- Yeah.

Every plate I put on here,

I'm like,
"oh, my gosh, poor richard."

it just got too big
too quick.

As we're building these
feathers, they look great.

But I'm worried
about how heavy they are.

- Hi, guys.
- Dave and richard, hello.

- Look at this.
- You're shaking your head.

We learned something.

Tell us a bit about
what you've learned.

We had a bold idea and we just
didn't really calculate

how much weight
it was gonna be.

I think the stage your at
is about taking this challenge
and how do you pivot,

and how do you adapt your idea
in the time you have,
which is not a lot of time?

- Well, good luck to you.
- Thank you.

- Appreciate it.
- All right.

Dave: Well, what do we do?
We can remove feathers,

but removing features
removes the stability.

Yeah, we don't want
to do that.

We have a choice.
We can either change gears

and do something that's not
gonna be what we're proud of,

or we can get this
to look good

and hopefully it makes it
down the runway.

Let's just do it, man.
We gotta take that risk.

It's a very precarious design.

Yeah, it's also
catching a little.

There's still a lot of people
in the competition,

and in order to stand out,
we have to do something crazy.

So, for our chef's hat,
we want to make this build move

with a bunch of desserts
precariously moving
back and forth on top.

There is no world
in which I'm comfortable
moving my hands away.

I hope there's gonna
be a medic on hand

because I fully expect that
as soon as jacob gets it over
his head, it'll just go--

our neck can only
support so much.

If they keep that
on their head,
I will be shocked.

All right. We might've gone
a little too big this time.

We're trying to keep this hat
as light as possible,

but the weight is adding up,
so it's a hard
balance to strike.

( caleb groans )

we got to try to fix
what we have.

You've had it on your head.
You know it's too heavy.

The hardest part
of this challenge by far
is making sure this hat

fits on and stays
on jacob's head.

- And it has to be
somewhat comfortable.
- Whatever.

Start doing neck exercises.

Red is so not my color,

- Yeah, I know we do.

With this build,
I'm working on the brim,

and the tree.

We've got to bring
this all together.

Let's make a plate

and she is full of attitude.

( cheering )

the phoenix has risen.

Look at the way--
the big red pieces

that go down
like little sashes.

She's now got to do
the five seconds of posing
without her hands.

Can she pull it off?

Come on, lauren.
You got this.

Yeah, lauren!

Incredible balance.

Bryan:
Great job, lauren.

Man:
Okay, you're good to walk.

- It's jen.
- Here we go.

- Some great accessorizing.
- Look at the shaking
and the bouncing.

And they're working with gray,
not an easy color.

Not an easy color to pull off.
You're right.

I'm enjoying the movement,
I have to say.

Oh, check that pout!
Work it, girl.

Whoo! Oh, my!

Releasing the hand.
All right.

- Will: Wow.
- Amy: Ooh, there's
some confidence.

Really balanced. Great job.

Ah, very different
on the backside.

Got this!

- Man: Feeling good?
- Well, we'll find out.

And go ahead.

Jacob:
When I have my hands up,

I can hold it for
a decent amount of time.

But when it comes
to that five seconds

where we have to balance it,
I'm still a little worried.

Oh, here we go.

Will:
It's jacob from the team
of caleb and jacob,

with all the delicious treats.

And there's even
the chef on the top.

- The icing on the cake hat.
- Will: Wow.

- Come on, come on.
- You got it, you got it.

- He's got it.
- I love the wobble.

- All right!
- Wow.

Now look at this!

Amy: Working it.

I am hungry for more.

Amazing!

Man:
You guys, your 40 seconds.

Move it on your head.

( clattering

- man.
- Oh, no!

A crack.
It's the worst thing
that can happen.

- You turn, I'll turn.
- Oh!

- Just keep going.
- Oh, my god.

Our next team
is struggling back there.
I think it's--

- I think it's moto
and paras coming up.
- Moto and paras.

But there is
a delay happening here.

Okay, reach around
and just hold the snake up.

It's the best you can do.

How am I gonna do
five seconds with this?

- My heart just drops.
- ( sighs )

this thing may fall apart
on the way down the runway.

- Work that thing!
- Do as much as you can.

Here's paras.

Paras:
I decide then
to stand up straight,

do the facial expression,
hold it.

Whatever happens, happens.

Amy: They took
some real risks here.

And moment of truth.

He's got to take his hands off.
Hands off.

( amy groans )

( groaning )

it's okay, man.

Will:
A devastating blow
for moto and paras.

Look at the composure.
What a pro.

Amy:
What a pro.

I'm literally tearing up.

Come here.

- Proud of you, man.
- So proud of you.

All right.

Definitely gonna have
a lego scar in my head.

Well, I'm feeling
a little iffy with the hat,

but I'm like,
"I'm gonna give you fashion!"

will:
Ladies and gentlemen,
I give you syreeta.

She has to bring her
grandmother pharaoh realness.

Amy:
That is really something
to balance on your head.

- Will: Here we go.
- Jamie: Confidence,
confidence.

- Great.
- Wow.

Wow, was that tough.

- Yeah, syreeta!
- Man: Go ahead.

Just have fun.

- Amy: Oh!
- Okay, here we go.
Mark and steven.

- The admiral
is in the building.
- The admiral.

Oh, he is bringing it
on the runway today.

Is that a dolphin?
Look at that beautiful design,
those flags at the top.

I love a good surprise
on the runway.

And look on the other side.

Now he's showing us
the other side with the sun.

Incredible.
Those turtles.

Bro, you got this.

Calm the waves.

Oh, that wobble, that wobble.

- He's done that before.
- Oh, you can feel it.

- He's done this before.
- So much confidence.

He is a real fashion pirate.
Here comes maria.

The lights in the hat!
Are you kidding me?

Amy:
And this silhouette
is everything for me.

- And now the moment of truth?
- Moment of truth.

The balance.

Jamie: Oh, strength,
strength, strength.

Love the confidence.

Whoa! Hands-free!

And she's even struck a pose.

Will: Unbelievable.
And then on the back.

- Wow.
- You're gonna
do great, wayne.

Zack and wayne's hat.

So steady, right?
And no hands.

- Striking.
- Oh.

Not supporting the hat
the entire walk.

- Time for the pose.
- Here we go.

- The archer.
- Amy: Powerful.

- All: Oh!
- Very nice.

It's so nerve-wracking
being a stage mom.

Will:
Here comes michelle

from the team of natalie
and michelle.

Amy: This is fashion
with a capital "f."

- the hat is spinning.
- Can you even tell that's lego?

- Kind of a twenties look.
- It's next level, right?

"you go on a head, girl."

I'm talking about the hat.

It goes on a head.

- It's very heavy.
- All right, give me
the centerpiece.

Richard:
Just putting on the headdress,
I'm getting nervous.

I am worried
about the weight.

All right, I'm gonna
hold it like this.

David and richard are next.

Amy: Oh!
This is the biggest
of all of them.

Richard:
But, once the lights
are on me, I'm like,

I got this thing, okay.

Now just take the first step.

Will:
Look at this thing.
It's incredible.

Check out the silhouette.
Wow. That's a wow.

Can he strike the pose
to win this challenge?

- Jamie: Here we go.
- Gosh, this thing could fall.

- This could go anywhere.
- Anywhere. He's got
to take his hands off.

- Come on, man.
- He's got it.

This is nerve-wracking.

- Uh-oh.
- Oh!

Can they pull off
the five-second pose?

- Come on, man.
- He's got it.

This is nerve-wracking.

- It's still together.
- Oh, my gosh!

Wow. Wow.

Oh, my gosh.
What a good catch.

I can't believe
it stayed together.

Deep breath.

Oh. So close.

It's so heart-breaking.

It's all right. It's okay.

- Wow.
- ( applause )

- that was tough.
- Oh, wow.

Richard:
I'm worried about being
in the bottom two this week.

- Thank you.
- Because it's just not

how we wanted
this challenge to go.

We are coming off
of a really strong win,

and we still feel like
we have a lot more
to accomplish.

Okay, that was
an incredible fashion show.

Hats off to you all.

All right, so,
the brickmasters are going

to take a look
at each hat and determine

who's hot and who's not.

Okay, mark and stephen,
you're up.

We got the color brown,

and so we decided to make
this pirate admiral hat.

Steven:
In this design, we have
the day and night side

that kind of represents
our duality a little bit.

Brickmasters,
what do you think?

I think my favorite part
is the duality you have

with the two very contrasting
sides and the mosaic.

When you turned around
and we were like,

"ooh!" now we have the moon,
now we've got the sunset,

and really brought
the color to the brown,

which was quite a hard
base color to start with.

So, kudos on that, for sure.

Jamie:
Wow, can you guys build.

An amazing statement,
and I love the fact

that we almost couldn't
get you off the runway

because you were just like,
"bring it on, bring it on."

he was on there
wearing that hat and he was
like, "I'm the captain now."

- great job.
- Thanks, guys.

- Thank you.
- Moto and paras, you're up.

Moto:
So, for this build,

paras has invented
lego fabric that curls up

and gives it
that distinct crocodile/
adventurer hat design.

And then we have this
beautiful branch coming up,

and finally there's
that snake curled around it
set to strike.

So, we had a bad break.
You know, it happens with lego.

And part of it is accepting
that you took that risk

and, you know, celebrated
something that was quite
beautiful at one point.

I love that you guys
tried a different approach,

that you were going
for the organic waviness.

And you actually made
a very dramatic snake.

But when you have that rigidity
and that flexibility,
they have to marry perfectly.

And I think that's
unfortunately where this
seems to have failed.

I really wish that
you'd used the shape
of that snake

somehow in the structure
to help support it.

The snake was just way
too heavy, being so far up.

Will:
And, paras, you got
a lot of credit.

You held it together
even when it fell apart.

- Kudos to you. Great job.
- Thank you, guys.

I hope they
can see the techniques,

they can see
what went into it.

I'm hoping that will carry us
over to the next round.

Caleb and jacob, you're up.

Caleb:
We made the baker's crown.

It's your traditional
chef's hat,

and on top we have
this beautiful tray
of goodies for our baker.

You guys certainly
had a very different take
on fashion.

When you walked
down the runway,

it felt like
performance art.

You guys certainly
put on a show.

Your doughnut,
very playfully built,
studs all around.

It looks round,
it looks delicious.

And the fact that
you made something that's
half your body weight

and then
you put it on your head,
you make it move,

it just shows
you're great builders.

It's a really fun build.
Thank you, guys.

- Well done.
- Thank you.

Susan and jen, you're up.

Your color was gray.
Tell us about your hat.

Jen:
We created a headpiece

with feathers coming out
of the top of it.

We got our inspiration
from an old picture

that susan has
of her great-grandmother
from the early 1900s.

It was wonderful energy
when you were coming
down the runway.

The hat moving
did actually create
a dramatic moment.

But when you turned around,
the back is just gray

and it doesn't have
any of these details

that you've brought
to the front.

Lauren and bryan, you're up.

We chose the color red,

and so we created phoenix
fire fashion.

You guys certainly
brought some drama.

You've used cues
that you would have
in fashion to lift it,

and it's those fire ribbons
wrapping round

that really feel like
they take it to the next level.

Especially when you're
walking back from the runway,
it leaves a memory,

it leaves an impression
that I thought was just great.

- Thank you.
- Randall and syreeta,
you're up.

Syreeta:
Our color was blue,

so what randall
and I have created

is this egyptian headdress

meets your favorite
grandma's Sunday best.

I love your ambition
and scale of how big
you've gone on this.

It certainly
had a very dramatic look

as you walked out
with it on your head.

Where I think there's
been some challenges

is the marrying of two
very different concepts--

grandma and the egyptians.

Your blue area
is such a focal point.

Where I'm challenged
is the negative space

that you have just above it.
It feels very unfinished.

Thank you,
randall and syreeta.

Okay, zack and wayne,
you're up.

We got the color green.

This hat represents
robin hood, archery.

On top of that, too,
right there,
we have big old arrows.

You guys are really, really
in top form with this one.

I like the way
that you actually contoured
the part that fit on your head

to not only give you
the security

that you felt comfortable
walking with no hands,

but it's just a very elegant
way of using the bricks.

Amy:
I think you guys have been
so clever with the color.

And you walked
down the runway hands-free,
so that is a big victory.

All right, thank you,
zack and wayne.

Dave and richard, you're up.

Dave: When you do
a high-concept build,

you always take a risk
that it might not work.

It's so heart-breaking,
but it's important

to take that as an opportunity
to celebrate what you did do.

I feel pride in richard
and pride in the look,

so at least we have
the strength of the design
to stand behind,

and hopefully that
will impress the judges.

All right, dave and richard,
tell us about your build.

Richard:
So, our build is called
pride of carnival.

Coming from jamaica,
I wanted to represent
the caribbean carnival.

Having the color pink,
it is one of the brightest

colors that we could use,
and this was our canvas.

Brickmasters,
what do you think?

We saw you coming
before you even came around,
and that's exciting.

We did sense there
was some trouble.

You just couldn't control it
in the back and forth,

and I think that's
where it fell apart.

Amy:
It was heart-breaking

when you had
to take you hands down

and it finally crashed.

And you tried
so hard to save it.

I think you were missing
some of the details.

The front has a lot more
detail than the back.

We love these ambitious ideas,
but we also want to see

fully-executed designs
in the time.

Nice job, you guys.
Thank you.

Dave and richard.

Okay, maria and philip,
you're up.

Maria: We created
this celestial headdress

with the sun rising up
on the wings

and it's chasing away
the sleepy sky.

Maria, when you first
walked out on the runway,

all I could see was
the headdress of a goddess.

I think you guys
have been so clever
with the color yellow

between the white
and the blue.

I also love
that you added the lights.

You're the only ones
that actually added something
to help you stand out.

Right away, we knew.

When you were
coming on the runway,

we're like, "ooh!
This got our attention."

- thank you, maria and philip.
- Really well done.

- Michelle and natalie,
you're up.
- Good luck!

Your color was black,
so tell us what's going on
with your hat.

So, we call this
abra-couture,

and we went
with an asymmetrical
top hat design.

Amy:
Natalie and michelle,
you excited me

right from the get-go
on this challenge

because you approached it
as fashion designers.

And when you walked out
on the runway,

I had to look twice
because I wasn't even sure
it was a lego model.

I could geek out about
so many details on this,

but one that really
stands out is the netting.

But the asymmetry,
also very tough to do,

and I love seeing
your technical skills.

Really, really great job,
michelle and natalie.

- Thank you.
- Beautiful.

- ( cheering )
- so good.

- So good.
- You guys did great.

All right, brickmasters,
it is time for you to decide

who slayed the runway
and who is going home.

You guys all did really well,

but two teams
really stood out.

I'd love to call forward...

Zack and wayne...

- ...And michelle and natalie.
- Yes!

So, both teams slayed,
but only one team can walk out
of here on top.

Jamie: The winners
of this challenge...

Michelle and natalie.

All right, I'm shaking.

I can't breathe.

What? We won a challenge?

Michelle:
It's awesome and a little
bit intimidating now.

I'm like,
"oh, now the pressure's on."

okay, now is the hard part.

We do have to send
one team home today.

The bottom two teams
today are...

Dave and richard...

...And moto and paras.

Dave and richard,
your ambition today
just got the better of you.

And you spent so much time
on the structure

that some of the details
were missing.

Moto and paras,
your ambition unfortunately

didn't match the execution
you were able to deliver,

and that was unfortunately
a miss for us.

So, amy, this is
the end of the road
for one team.

- Who is it?
- The team we have to say
good-bye to today...

...Is moto and paras.

Sorry, guys.

You really had
great energy on this one.

We were just thrilled
to see paras come out
with all that confidence.

And you left the runway
like you still owned it,

and that was wonderful to see.

Yeah, we love
that you pushed yourself
in every challenge,

but this challenge
just wasn't the one for you.

- There's no shame
in failure.
- No.

There's only failure
in not trying.

We lost. That's okay.
We did the best we could.

Thank you, moto and paras.

Please turn in your minifigs
and say good-bye.

Failure is how you learn.

Play well, everybody.

Play well, everybody, okay?
Keep going on.

Failure is
part of the process.

Come here, man.

But it's not the end,
nor should it be the end

of your creativity
or your inspiration.

- Aww.
- Oh!

Will: Next week...

Builders,
the golden brick is back.

Oh-ho!

That's what
I'm talking about.

Your challenge is to create
a build floating in the air.

- Excuse me, what?
- No.

Zack is testing
the strength of it already.

There's something exciting
happening there.

As long as we don't touch
anything, we should be fine.

Oh!

Steven and mark seem to have
the same idea as we do.

- Call them out.
- Mark and steven, why are
you copying our build?

Oh, I thought you were
copying our build!

They're literally copies
of each other!

- Man.
- That was exhausting.
