She strives for perfection.

She had 12-pack.
She was just lean and strong.

He's all about order
and discipline.

You could set your watch
by him.

He attained the rank
of master chief,

Which is
a phenomenal achievement.

Together,
they are a force of nature.

Just was the strangest thing.
Two totally opposite people.

But when trust fails...

Sometimes when one wants out

The other will do anything
they can to prevent that.

...Suspicions take hold.

It was awful.

Right there in my gut,
I said something ain't right.

It just opened up
more questions than it solved.

An ominous mystery grips
a small american town.

Fitness is
a love-or-hate relationship.

Body building was something

That they were both
very serious about.

A body can be a temple,

But temples can be desecrated.

Norfolk, virginia, is home to
the world's largest naval base,

A massive complex on the shores
of the chesapeake bay.

It's a vibrant, dynamic city
due in part to its population.

Most of the 120,000 active duty
and civilian personnel

Stay in top shape,

And 42 year old paul jandreau
is no exception.

His discipline in
and out of the gym has helped

Paul earn the prestigious naval
rank command master chief.

That is the highest rank
you can obtain

As an enlisted personnel
in the navy.

You are in charge
of all the enlisted personnel.

You are the person
they look towards for guidance,

How to do things,
how to be a sailor.

Paul was just a stand-up guy.

Paul had
that supportive mentality

There's a camaraderie there.

"it's not about me.

It's about helping
other people."

And paul was like that.

He lived in moyock
for quite a few years.

Married. He had two daughters.

Moyock is a bedroom community

Right on the border with
north carolina and virginia.

We have a lot
of military personnel

Who will move to north carolina
to live

Because more value
for their homes,

But they will commute
to virginia.

It's a very easy drive.

Professionally,
life couldn't be sweeter.

But by the summer of 2002,
paul's second marriage

Of 14 years
is headed for divorce.

The soon-to-be bachelor
is a regular at his gym

Where he lays eyes on divorcée
say lateisha askew,

A 29-year-old competitive
body builder with a great job

In human resources at norfolk's
renowned children's hospital.

She caught paul's
attention immediately.

Lateisha's very athletic,
very strong.

She was very serious
about body building

And she was obsessed
with being as fit

And as muscular
as she could possibly be.

Lateisha is
a professional body builder --

Very successful in her sport

And has won
several competitions.

Many men admired
lateisha's physique.

I mean, she was absolutely
in perfect condition.

As someone who sees sailors
through the rigors

Of physical training,
paul is dazzled.

Paul is driving to be
more physically fit.

You have somebody
who's at a high level,

And you have someone seeking
to get to a higher level

Of physical fitness.

There's an attraction there.

Paul is impressed with her.

He saw her six-pack and knew
that he was going to date her.

Even though
paul is still married,

He his soon-to-be ex
are free to see other people

While they work through
their amicable divorce.

Paul realizes the new target of
his affections is painfully shy,

So to put lateisha at ease,
he goes for common ground,

Proposing they be
workout partners.

Training for body building

Was something that
lateisha and paul did together

And they were both
very serious about.

He would go to competitions
with her and assist when needed.

Paul and lateisha used
these fitness competitions

As an opportunity
to spend time together,

They would get to travel,
and they both enjoyed it.

He would brag about her
to his friends

And talk about her
various competitions.

To close friends,

The new couple
seems an unlikely pair.

I think their relationship
was just an example of opposites

Attracting because they did
not appear to match in any way.

It just was
the strangest thing.

They were
totally opposite people.

Paul was more outgoing, and
lateisha was not outgoing.

She was very much an introvert.

When there was get-togethers,
she wouldn't leave his side.

What made lateisha
fall in love with paul?

I mean, paul was
pretty charismatic,

But I also think
that it was his success.

Anybody wants to marry somebody
that successful.

Lateisha makes good money
at children's hospital,

But a serious relationship
with an affluent man like paul

Would afford her an entirely new
level of luxury and security.

Lateisha jandreau came from
a small north carolina town.

She had a very modest
upbringing.

Only a few months
into dating, paul surprises

Family and friends
by asking lateisha to move in.

They were both at a point
in there life

Where they were looking
for a relationship.

Lateisha moves into
the beautiful custom home

Paul built in brumsey landing,
a tony subdivision

In moyock, north carolina.

It's a 40-minute commute
to their jobs

In norfolk, virginia.

Brumsey landing is a small
neighborhood on the water.

Very quiet.
Virtually no crime occurs.

Super family friendly.
Just beautiful.

Quaint, little subdivision.

One of the nicer subdivisions
in the county.

Paul is very proud
of his house.

His yard
always looked fantastic.

The home includes
a huge garage,

Allowing paul to indulge in
his passion for sleek machines.

You can tell
he really loves his vehicles.

His pickup truck was spotless.

His vehicles
were always clean, waxed,

Basically show-ready.

He had a very nice
dodge challenger.

It had a hemi in it, and,
I mean, when I saw that car,

I was envious of that car.

It was really, really nice.

For lateisha, life
with the gregarious master chief

Is a cinderella story.

Paul's divorce
is finalized in may 2003,

And they married the next month,
a year since they first met.

Paul seemed very happy
being married to lateisha.

He was very caring
and attentive.

He enjoyed doing things
with lateisha.

The neighbors would see them
walking and holding hands

And just being together.

Four years into their marriage,
paul retires from the navy

And begins collecting
his military pension.

However, he has no intention
of slowing down.

He was able to embark
on a new career

As a civilian at b.A.E. Systems
in norfolk, virginia.

They are a company that services
and works on navy ships.

He is someone who is held
in very high regard.

He was very dedicated,
would stay late,

And was very work-driven
and focus-driven.

Lateisha is also
on the move professionally.

In 2009, she lands
a challenging position

With a leading
defense contractor.

Lateisha jandreau
work for blackwater airlines.

I believe
she helped schedule flights,

Bringing personnel in and out
for training

And also for contractors
going overseas.

For a woman
without a high-school diploma,

It's an astonishing feat.

Lateisha is a hard worker.

Whatever job she had,
she was serious about her job,

And she was responsible.

Still, for the body builder,

No job will ever take priority
over her first love.

Her life revolved
around physical fitness.

It was one of the most important
things in her life.

Paul was very proud
of his wife.

He would go to work
and talk about her competitions.

He told people about
the various trophies she'd win.

Paul would brag to co-workers
about her accomplishments.

Paul and lateisha seemed to have
a very wonderful life --

A great home, great jobs,

Colleagues and friends
that greatly respect them.

For most people,
you would say

That this was a couple
that you would want to emulate.

But the happy life
of lateisha and paul jandreau

Comes to an unexpected end
in the summer of 2010,

When one day, paul
doesn't show up for work.

On June 30th,
around 7:45 in the morning,

Paul's co-workers
reported him missing.

We started getting phone calls

From at least six
of his co-workers.

His whole little office
were telling us

That that this was
terribly, terribly wrong.

He had a presentation

That he had been working
on very diligently,

And even though he was only
a few hours late for work,

His co-workers knew that,
hey, this is not paul jandreau.

At the urgent request

Of paul's co-workers,
a deputy from

The currituck county
sheriff's office

Visits the jandreau residence to
perform a routine welfare check.

She notices multiple vehicles
in the driveway.

She knocks on all the doors.
No answer.

She walks around
looking in windows

And could not get a response.

Meanwhile,
paul's co-workers hope lateisha

Can shed light
on paul's whereabouts.

Co-workers were calling her,

And she was also calling
his co-workers.

She had no knowledge
where paul was.

Soon after,
lateisha leaves work

To meet with the deputy
waiting outside her home.

She calmly tells the officer
that contrary

To the concerns
of paul's co-workers,

There is likely
an easy explanation

For why he is missing.

But that easy explanation
goes against everything

The couple's friends and family
have come to know

About the jandreaus.

Lateisha says that their
marriage is on a rocky road.

Paul has been seeing
another person for some time,

And that it is common
for him to leave

And go off with this person.

Lateisha mentioned that
he had several lady friends

Who would be picked up
on a regular basis.

They were in a relationship that
she could do what she wanted,

And he could do
what he wanted.

Lateisha's private disclosure
has detectives wondering,

What is really going on
with paul jandreau?

A missing-persons
investigation has been launched

In moyock, north carolina,
for 50-year-old paul jandreau.

Paul was supposed to be
at work at 5:30 in the morning.

By 7:00 a.M., his co-workers
were making phone calls

To the sheriff's department.

He was known to friends
and co-workers

As extremely punctual,
very regimented.

It became a joke
at his workplace

That if paul was on time,
he was late,

Because he was that early
and that punctual and reliable.

But paul's wife,
lateisha jandreau,

Calmly explains that she and
paul have an open relationship.

Lateisha was adamant
that paul had run off

To be with his girlfriend
or another woman

For a day or two.

She wasn't concerned.

Lateisha informed us
that he was in a relationship,

And she actually provided
some social-media information

Of who this person was.

Paul did have
a dating profile.

It was shown that he was dating
another woman at the time.

Her name is lori cosgrove,

And officers are assigned
to track her down.

Lateisha was seeing
other people, as well.

She emphasized
to the deputies

That they were doing
their own thing.

Furthermore, she says,
paul's cpap machine

For his sleep apnea is so loud

They've had separate bedrooms
for years.

And because he goes to work
so early,

She typically doesn't see him
before he leaves.

Lateisha brings
the deputy inside

To complete her welfare check.

A welfare check is just
a brief walk through,

Making sure that he's not laying
there beside the bed deceased.

It's not an in-depth
crime-scene search.

Lateisha goes straight
to paul's bedside

Looking for
his sleep-apnea machine.

The first thing she says,
"hey, this instrument is gone,"

So he's planning on being gone
and not returning for the night.

She knew if he traveled,
he would take that with him.

Marriages have difficulty,

People see other people,
people make other arrangements,

And sometimes
things are spontaneous.

If they had a relationship
that they could come

And go as they pleased,
that explains

Her not being startled
or upset that he was gone.

The deputy walks
through the residence.

She didn't see paul.

She didn't notice anything in
the house that set off alarms.

When paul is not found
at home that morning,

Investigators are unsure
where to turn.

Did he just need to get away
for a day or two?

We had to think about
every scenario that we could.

By noon, paul's girlfriend
lori cosgrove

Has not been located, and
lateisha has racked her brain,

Telling the deputies
she knows of no one

Who would want to harm
her husband.

There is nothing
in paul's background

That would be any kind
of attraction to any danger.

No criminal record.
Well-liked.

No enemies
that we were aware of.

Just then, lateisha remembers
that about two weeks earlier,

Paul was very upset
to discover

Someone had keyed
his collectible dodge charger.

Somebody wanted to destroy
or damage something

That meant something to him.

So that was important for us
to find out what that was about.

The clamor
from paul's co-workers

To find him is relentless.

The same day
that he was missing,

They were out
in the neighborhood,

Passing out
missing-person's posters

With paul's picture on them.

They were very concerned
for him.

Help find
a missing co-worker.

You could tell the guy
was very loved and respected.

He had a big day at work,
a big presentation

Between a lot of high ranking
military officials,

And for him to not be there
or postpone was very suspicious.

Paul was not answering
his cellphone,

And nobody could get
ahold of him.

Shortly after that,
we were notified that his phone

Was actually pinging off
a tower in elizabeth city.

So I immediately went
to elizabeth city.

The harbor town
is a 30-minute drive

From paul and lateisha's home.

Could paul simply be blowing off
work and marital stress

With a spontaneous staycation?

Paul being in elizabeth city
was definitely

Not out of the ordinary,
because there were hotels,

There's shops, there's
a waterfront, restaurants.

I mean,
if you're thinking someone

Wanted to get away
somewhere close,

That could definitely be
a place that they would go.

We started canvassing hotels
and motels in elizabeth city.

We had gotten paul's
driver's license picture,

And when we got
to the hampton inn,

The manager immediately we said,
"I saw him last night,

And he was acting
a little strange.

And I saw him again
this morning," she said.

The witness account
lends support

To lateisha theory

That paul is having
an out-of-town tryst.

We took that very seriously,
and we made assignments

With all of our detectives

And pulled them off
everything else

And said, "hey, alright, we need
someone tracking the phone.

We need someone tracking
the other person

That he's in
a relationship with.

We need somebody
talking with co-workers

We need somebody
canvassing the neighborhood

And talking with
all the neighbors."

Checking the hotel records
at the hampton inn,

Detectives come up short.

It's doubtful paul
or his girlfriend

Checked in under an alias
because there are no images

Of either of them
on hotel security cameras.

We could find no evidence that
he had checked into that hotel.

But investigators are not
ready to give up on the leads

That paul may be somewhere
in elizabeth city.

They continue to canvas

Other hotels
and restaurants in the area.

By now, word of
paul's disappearance has made it

To his daughters living
outside of north carolina.

They tell investigators

That they haven't spoken
with their father.

Lateisha was texting
paul's daughter,

Telling her that,
"I'm praying for your father,"

And she was doing everything
she could to help

The sheriff's department
locate her father

And that she was certain
that he was gonna be found safe.

24 hours
into paul's disappearance,

He's still not answering
his cellphone.

As people kept calling, it began
to go directly to voicemail,

Which would normally tell you
that somebody's turned it off

Or perhaps the battery's dead.

Late that afternoon, paul's
brother gets a phone call.

When he sees paul's name
on the caller I.D.,

He scrambles to answer.

Gets a phone call
from a construction worker.

Paul's phone is recovered
from the parking lot

Of an elementary school.

The brother explained,
"look, this is paul's phone.

He's missing."

So this construction worker
took that phone

To the elizabeth city
police department.

The construction worker
showed us exactly

Where the phone was located.

We immediately started
a canvas of that area.

We had a utility worker tell us
that they saw him

Walking down the road
the day before.

It really didn't make sense

Because it was several miles
from the hampton inn

And paul did not have
his vehicle and it was hot.

We're trying to wrap
our minds around,

"why is he over here on foot?

Why would he not have
his phone?

Why is he not
contacting people?"

It's just not adding up.

We were continually
checking to see

If his credit card had been
used, and it had not been used.

Upon further investigation,

Paul had not checked
into the hampton inn.

So we pretty much figured
it was a mistaken identity.

Detectives finally make contact
with lori cosgrove,

The woman paul
is reportedly dating.

She didn't have
any information

On paul's current whereabouts,

Said she had spoken to him
recently

But had no plans to meet up.

He was not with her.

As detectives question
the reports

The police paul
in elizabeth city,

They receive an urgent call

From a concerned neighbor
in brumsey landing.

Something bizarre is happening
at lateisha and paul's house.

They see a man show up
who they did not know

And began to move furniture.

So law enforcement
gets called out to the house.

To see why he was just moving
furniture out of the house.

Only a day after completing

A welfare check
at the jandreau residence,

Currituck county sheriff's
deputies returned to investigate

Suspicious activity reported
by one of their neighbors.

The sheriff's department
received a call

From one of the neighbors,

Saying that lateisha was
actually loading up furniture

And taking it
from the residence.

An unidentified man is also
reported to be helping lateisha.

When the deputy went
to the house

To talk with lateisha about why
she was moving the furniture,

She told the deputy that she was
just getting new furniture

And was taking that furniture
to store it in a storage unit.

And the male there with her
turned out to be

Lateisha's brother.

Deputies ask lateisha
to return the furniture

To the house
until further notice,

And she complies
with their orders.

It was odd, the timing.

Her husband's missing,

And she's being very calm
and nonchalant about it.

Deputies take notice
of something else very odd.

You have a lot of windows
on this particular house.

While her husband's missing,
she starts making

Various attempts to prevent
people from looking in.

The windows over the garage,

She frosted them with a spray
that will make it

So that you can't
see through them.

Wrapping paper ended up
on the windows

In the back by the sun-room.

Investigators consider
the lateisha

Is simply maintaining
her privacy,

Given all the attention
being cast on her home.

Neighbors and friends
revealed to investigators

That in recent years

The jandreaus'
seemingly blissful marriage

Had been hit by tragedy.

Lateisha and paul wanted
to have children,

But the process of her
having her own children

Was an uphill climb.

They went through
quite a few rounds of ivf

Until she was pregnant
with twin girls.

Paul was very excited.

Yet, as often happens with
twins, lateisha's pregnancy

Becomes high-risk
and she's put on bed rest.

Every ache, every twinge,

Her anxiety
was through the roof.

I would just talk to her.

I'm like, "girl, just calm down.
Put your feet up.

Just relax.
Enjoy the process."

Think she was about
21 weeks pregnant.

She ended up losing
both the babies.

Paul took it really hard.

Lateisha wanted to try again,
and he was like, "we're done."

He was not going to do it.

He's like, "I'm not going
through that again."

With her chance
at motherhood lost,

Lateisha puts everything she has
back into body building,

And paul is there for her.

But by year's end, friends
notice something has changed.

She was telling me
that she was getting ready

Do her competition,
and I was like, "awesome.

Is paul going with you?"

And she just looked at me
and she said, "mnh-mnh."

I was like, "oh."

I was like,
"is everything alright?"

And she's like, "mnh-mnh."

I said, "are y'all separating?"

And that's when she's like,
"yeah."

She goes,
"he's seeing somebody else,"

And I was like, "okay."

Paul's co-workers
first sensed trouble

When paul turned 50

With no party or acknowledgement
from his wife.

And when lateisha placed second

In a recent
body-building competition,

Paul didn't attend
or mention the prize.

Now paul's coworkers
reveal to police

That paul had filed
for divorce

And wanted lateisha gone
by the end of the month.

This heightened our concern
that, hey, he was definitely

In a relationship
that he wanted out of.

Lateisha explained that
they were in a bad marriage,

But it was civil.

Finding out the marriage
was worse than probably

What lateisha
was letting us know.

None of the neighbors

Confirmed that there was ever
yelling or fighting.

We didn't get any calls for
any disturbances or any noises.

The only record police have

Of trouble
at the jandreau home

Is the report of vandalism filed
two weeks before he disappeared.

It appears there was more
to the story

Than lateisha
first told investigators.

Paul reported that his car
was keyed

And this was his
dodge challenger that he loved

And kept in pristine condition.

We discovered
that the vehicle

Had been scratched
inside the garage

Which means someone with access
to the home must've done it.

Suspicions were definitely
starting to mount.

As questions swirl,

News of paul's disappearance
has spread throughout lateisha

And paul's tight-knit,
supportive community.

I called lateisha, and I'm like,
"do you need anything?"

She goes,
"well, we're all gonna be

Getting together this evening.

We're gonna be doing
some flyers."

I told her I'd be over there
that night to help.

When I drove past her house,
it was so eerie-feeling...

And it felt dark.

Not dark 'cause
it was nighttime.

It looked deserted.

It was dark and eerie.

And I was not stopping.

It was awful.

Right there in my gut,
I said, "something ain't right."

It's been two days
since retired naval master chief

Paul jandreau
was reported missing,

Two desperate and exasperating
days for family and friends,

As law enforcement follows leads

That have them
running in circles.

We couldn't find anything

That was leading us anywhere
than paul's home.

The last place that we know
paul was was at his home.

He made phone calls
from his home

The day before
he went missing.

Investigators want to
collect more evidence

That could help them
construct a timeline

Leading up
to paul's disappearance.

Lateisha had agreed to turn
over paul's personal computer

To the sheriff's department
so we could look at it

And maybe get some leads.

Two days after paul vanishes,

Detectives go
to the jandreau home

To retrieve paul's computer.

So we set up a time.

We arrive at her home,
and she's not there.

There's a note on the door.

It said that she decided
to go out for a walk.

She wasn't answering
her cellphone.

Law enforcement split up,

And we were searching the trails
where she said she was.

At that point,
we were concerned

That lateisha
may try to harm herself.

While we were trying to locate
lateisha, she called 911.

But officials are certain

Lateisha is not 30 miles north
in chesapeake.

Whenever you call 911,

They automatically
are tracing your call.

So the 911 operator is, like,
"no, she's not in chesapeake.

She's in that house there
in brumsey landing."

So we knew that,
without a shadow of a doubt,

She's hiding things.

Because of lateisha's
evasive behavior,

Detectives are forming
a new theory

Regarding paul's disappearance.

We were very certain
that something had happened

To paul in that house.

I feel now
we have enough information

For a search warrant.

We wanted to get inside
that house to see, is she okay?

Is paul there?
Is he okay?

We're not sure what
we're going to walk into here.

We got the warrant prepared.

So we returned to paul
and lateisha's home

Just after midnight on July 3rd.

Nobody answers.

So, at this point, they choose
a door to go in through,

And they pick the garage door.

There was something
behind the door

That just would not allow us
to open the door.

Eventually,
after a sustained effort,

We were able
to get the door open.

Once inside,
they see the garage door

Had been barricaded with
a massive pile of heavy garbage.

We knew lateisha
was in the house.

We didn't know
if she had a firearm.

So we cleared the garage
very quickly

And then we made entry
into the residence.

We knocked and announced,
and with our guns drawn...

...In the very last room,

The northernmost room
in the house...

...We found lateisha hiding
in a closet,

Covered up by clothes.

They were like,
"show me your hands."

She was actually almost
in a fetal position.

She wasn't combative at all.

She basically just did
what we told her to do.

One of my female
detectives reached in

And snatched her
out of the closet.

And there is lateisha jandreau.

She looked to be defeated
and resigned to her fate.

They had her sit down
to interview her.

She kept her head down.

She did not want
to make eye contact.

We advised of her rights
and interviewed her on scene.

She was very upset.

She tried to ignore us,
not answer questions.

She was crying, and the first
thing that comes to my mind,

"why are you crying?
What have you done wrong?"

Her explanation was that

She was just tired
of being bothered.

She needed some time to rest.
She needed some time to think.

Meanwhile,
there are other officers

Going through the house.

We noticed extensive cleaning
and sections of carpet

Were just cut out of the floor.

When you see strips of carpet
cut up out of someone's floor

In a very nice home,

When you see furniture
wrapped up,

When you see rugs
wrapped up to be removed,

That really put our senses
at the highest levels

That something tragic
had happened.

I went to the master bedroom.

There were bullet holes
in the walls

That had been patched.

There was an area rug
in the middle of the floor.

When I tried to move
the area rug,

It was glued down to the floor.

I was able to pull the rug up,

And I saw the bullet skip mark
in the floor right there.

I moved a dresser.

I saw another bullet hole.

I saw the blood spatter.

Shortly after that, another
investigator called me over.

I went out to the garage.

The team uncovered
a plastic tote...

...That had a shower curtain
taped with duct tape

Over the top of the tote.

He immediately smelled
what he identified

As the odor of decomposition.

So this is not
going to end well.

In the very early morning hours
of July 3, 2010,

As lateisha jandreau
is being questioned

About her husband, paul,

Detectives searching
the residents

Make a horrible discovery.

I went out to the garage.

The team uncovered
a plastic tote

That had a shower curtain
taped with duct tape

Over the top of the tote.

It was hot. It was July.

So as soon as the plastic tote
was uncovered,

The stench of death and
decomposition was very strong.

We knew that we had a body
at that point.

We uncovered
several layers of plastic.

There was kitty litter
sprinkled

In between
the layers of plastic,

And each layer was taped.

But as soon as we could see
paul's head and his hair,

We stopped at that point, called
the medical examiner's office.

The deputy
who did the welfare check

The morning
paul disappeared

Had unknowingly come
within 10 feet of paul's body.

She did appear startled that
we had found paul in the house,

You know, implying
that she didn't know

That he was deceased.

With nowhere left to hide,

Lateisha finally discloses
to detectives that she may have

Unwillingly played a role
in her husband's murder.

She said that she stopped
in elizabeth city,

And she told several men that
paul had been mistreating her,

And she gave them
the code of the house

And wanted them
to come beat paul up.

There was nothing believable
about lateisha's story.

We weren't able
to confirm anything.

It seemed very outlandish.

The only thing that gave
some credibility

Is she did implicate herself
in solicitation for an assault.

Shortly after
we found the body,

She was taken into custody
and arrested.

The whole tote was taken to
the medical examiner's office.

The official cause of death
is multiple gunshot wounds

Combined with severe
blunt-force trauma to the head.

She was in jail
maybe 12 or 13 hours

Before she contacted
law enforcement,

Said she wanted to talk.

And now she gives a different
version of her story.

Lateisha says paul attacked her

In the early morning
of June 30, 2010,

The same day paul's co-workers
reported him missing.

She told me that paul came in
her room with a rifle and says,

"by the time I leave for work,
I want you out of this house."

He grabbed her
and drug her down the hall

And said, "I want you out."

She said she got her gun,
which was a.45...

...Ran to his room,
and started shooting.

Shut the door and shot paul
multiple times.

And then they had an
altercation, a struggle

After he had been shot.

She went on to say that
she killed him in self-defense,

So this was a completely new
version that she came up with

After being in jail for about,
you know, a day.

Now that we have
a cause of death,

We went back
to further search the residence.

We searched lateisha's
silver bmw,

And that's where we found,
in the back seat,

A.45-caliber
semiautomatic handgun.

Ballistics show it
to be the murder weapon.

We ran the serial numbers
on the handgun,

And the handgun
actually had come back

To a retired air force general.

The general confirms he'd
taken lateisha on a few dates.

She had actually
stolen his gun.

The crime-scene investigators
found a copy of a lawsuit

That had been filed
against lateisha and paul.

The legal document sheds light

On the serious troubles
in the marriage

Involving another man
lateisha started seeing

A year before she and paul
lost the twins.

March 2010--

A gentleman friend of lateisha's
had filed a lawsuit against her

And named paul jandreau
as part of the suit.

He was claiming that he had been
taken advantage of,

And that she was basically
milking him for money

Pretending to be pregnant
with his children.

It seems the shy country girl
of modest means

Is playing everybody.

She is a master manipulator.

Very cold-hearted.

Very unfeeling.

Paul talked to him and then went
straight to a divorce lawyer.

He wanted no part
of any of this

And just wanted to be done
with lateisha.

More evidence
at the house proves lateisha

Bought the items needed
to clean up after the murder.

We located a receipt from lowe's
on the kitchen counter,

And the receipt was actually
for the purchase

Of a 50-gallon tote.

We were able to receive
video footage of her

Actually purchasing that tote

And walking out of lowe's
with that tote.

Lateisha being a body builder

And very powerful
and very muscular,

She was very capable
of putting him in the tote

And dragging it down the stairs
like she did.

At trial in September 2012,

Lateisha askew jandreau
testifies on her own behalf

Claiming she killed paul
in self-defense.

But the crime scene evidence
does not support her claim.

It was clear
that paul was ambushed.

There was one shot
through the door.

We believe that paul was in his
bedroom with the door closed.

When he went to leave for work,
she opened fire.

She gets up that morning,
takes a gun

She's stolen from her boyfriend
about a week ahead,

And shoots into the room.

That is not defending yourself.
That's an attack.

Paul had actually
retreated back

Into the bedroom a little ways.

The evidence shows
that he was shot several times

And then they struggled.

She was able to overpower him,

And she struck him in the head
several times with the gun,

Causing the severe
skull injuries to paul.

The jury takes only
an hour and 40 minutes

To find her guilty
of first degree murder

And one count of larceny
of a firearm.

On September 28, 2012,

She receives a sentence of life
without parole.

Lateisha files for an appeal,

And in 2014,
that appeal is denied.

I believe
that lateisha murdered paul

Because she did not want
to give up her lifestyle.

Lateisha's dating profile, where
she called herself brown sugar

And had her picture of her
in her bikini and oiled up.

It was clear to me
that she preyed

On older, successful,
widowed men or single men.

She really just went
for these guys

Who were fairly well-to-do
and, you know, just successful.

She had a type.

There was a very dark side
to her.

There really was.

Paul had some
phenomenal friends

Co-workers, and neighbors.

They watched his house
around the clock.

And anytime anything changed
over there, they let us know.

During the investigation,
the neighbors and the co-workers

Were reporting every move
that lateisha made,

Which was helpful to us.

It helped put
the pressure on her.

When you have pressure and
you panic, you make mistakes.

She made the mistake
of keeping paul in the garage.

Everybody loved paul.

I mean,
that's plain and simple.

Everybody loved paul.

Why would you do that to him?
