[Izzy] It's one of my favorite times
of the year on the island.

It's baby koala season!

Lots of little koala babies

have been hanging out
with their mums in the trees.

But because it's been so hot and dry,
koalas need our help now more than ever.

It's okay. You're safe with us now.

Mum, Dad, and I
have been rescuing lots of koalas

and bringing them home
to our koala hospital...

[laughs]

...where we treat them

and release them back
into the wild when they're ready.

There's the tree!

This is your new home.

-[Ali] Whoa!
-[Izzy] Have fun!

That's it, sweet!

-Bye, Juliet!
-[Tim] Bye, Juliet! See ya!

[Izzy] Right now, we've got StormBoy,

Mango,

Muffin and Cinderella,

Miss Piggy...

and lots and lots of babies!

Chompy, come back!

Teddy, where are you going?

This is the koala nursery.

And we have four baby koalas
that we're caring for at the moment.

They all lost their mums.

So they need each other to learn from
and to get koala cuddles.

This is Chompy.

[upbeat music plays]

He went from being our smallest baby
to our biggest baby.

He's the boss.

This is Teddy.

He's one of the shier babies.

This is Pumpkin. [chuckles]

She's our tiniest baby.

She's small, but she's feisty.

Twinkle.

Do you have yourself a Pumpkin?

Twinkle's really patient

and she acts like a mum
to the other babies.

We are very, very busy at the moment.

Um... Excuse me, Chompy!

[Ali] Four babies of this size
is the most that we've ever had.

Having youngsters in care is always...

always takes a lot more time
because we have to feed them milk.

We've got to make sure
they've got the freshest leaf.

We have to work as a team
to make sure that everything is done,

and we just need to make sure
we're doing the right thing.

Oh my goodness!

What is going on here?

It's a koala party.

Hello, babies!

What a whole bundle of trouble.

-Here, Iz, I'll give you the milk.
-[Izzy] I'll do Twinkle.

Okay, I will do Teddy.

Oh my goodness! Come on!

-Here it is.
-Pumpkin, can I please borrow Twinkle?

I won't be long. I promise.

Why don't you go annoy Chompy?

[Ali] Oh! Go and annoy Chompy.

[Izzy chuckles]

Oh! You little monkey!

[Izzy] I have to go kind of fast
with Twinkle because she laps it.

Excuse me, Chompy,
where are you taking Pumpkin?

Don't forget you have Pumpkin on your back

and you're squishing her!

Chompy, you are so naughty!

This year, baby season,
it's gone very, very dry and very hot.

[Ali] In the wild, the babies,

normally they'd be clinging on to Mum
all the time.

But being in the full force of the sun,

mums are getting really exhausted
and sometimes the babies get lost.

That's when we need to help them.

We've got our hands full at the moment.

I'm not really sure we could handle
any more than this.

[Izzy] Oh! We've had a Pumpkin down!

I think everybody's ready for a nap.

-Should we get them back to bed?
-Yeah.

Good night, Teddy. Good night, Twinkle.

Good night, Pumpkin and Chompy.

Sleep well!

[upbeat music plays]

-[Ali] Hey, Izzy!
-[Izzy] Yeah?

We've had a call about a baby koala.

Oh, okay!

-[Ali] Go!
-[Izzy] All right. Stay there, Loki!

[Ali] It's so hot out there
that we need to get cracking.

-[Izzy] Where's the koala?
-[Ali] We think he's near the Sphinx.

[Izzy] That's a really long hike.
We've got to hurry.

[Ali] And the little baby
is still separated from the mum

in the middle of the heat.

He's not safe where he is.

We can't really leave him there
any longer.

[Ali] It's way too small
to survive on its own.

Let's go.

It's a long walk.
It's at least two and a half kilometers.

-[Tim sighs]
-[Izzy] It's really dry.

-[Tim] It is dry, isn't it?
-[Ali] It's so dry.

[Izzy] Is the lady who found him
still with the baby?

[Ali] Yeah, they're waiting for us.

It's been now away from his mum
for most of the day

and it's really stinking hot,
so he's going to need a drink.

We're almost there.

-Hey!
-[Izzy] Hi!

[Tim] He's over here.

[Izzy] It's tiny!

[Tim] Oh, yeah.

-[woman] Thanks ever so much, ladies.
-[Izzy] Thank you!

[woman] All right. Oh. No worries.

[Izzy] Hi! It's okay.

He should definitely
still be with the mum.

Oh, yeah, definitely. He's so tiny.

[Izzy] He's smaller than any of
the other babies we have at home.

It's okay.

[Ali] Just cuddle him. That's it.

-I've got you.
-[Ali] That's it.

There you go.

I think we really need
to race him home now

and go and get some milk into him.

Do you want my hat, Iz,
to keep him in the shade?

-[Izzy] Yes, please.
-[Ali] You could put my hat over.

[Izzy] He's grabbing on to me
pretty tight.

That's a really good sign.

[Ali] Yeah. I think he must be
trusting you now.

[Tim] Let's get this baby home.

[Izzy] I think he's really dehydrated
because it's so dry and hot.

[Izzy] This one really needs milk.

[Ali] All right, Iz,
I'll get him some milk.

This one's so tiny and it was just
so very hot up there.

He needs milk.

If I can't get him to take milk,
I don't know how he's going to go.

Shall we?

[Izzy] It's all right.

Mum's a wildlife vet.
She's gonna give you some milk.

I know it's all strange, baby.
It's very different.

[Izzy] You can do this.

This is gonna help you feel better.

[Ali whispers] It's okay.

[Izzy] Good boy!

[Ali chuckles] That's pretty amazing.
That's pretty quick going.

[Izzy] Aw, look at his little tongue.

[chuckles]

What a smart little boy.

[Izzy] That milk is so good for you.

I'm thinking of names.

He's so brave.

-[Ali] Mm.
-[Izzy] He's strong.

What about Ranger?

[Ali] I think that would suit him,

-surviving out in the wild by himself.
-Yeah!

Mm, that's a good name.

This is the most koala babies
that we've had in at one time.

Now we're up to five.

Maybe we can start
to slowly introduce him to some others.

Maybe Twinkle?

Because she's really calm
and she sort of always acts like a mum.

I think it'll help Ranger
to have Twinkle to cuddle.

I think you're right, but right now
he's very scared and fragile.

Until he's stronger and more confident,

he's not ready to meet Twinkle
or any of the other babies.

It all just depends on
the type of night that he's had.

-[Ali] If he just settles...
-[Izzy] Mm-hm.

...and he's calm and quiet
and has a good sleep,

then maybe think about
meeting somebody else.

Yeah. We'll let him sleep

and then we'll check on him
in the morning?

[Izzy] Good morning, Ranger.

How are you?

-How is he doing, Iz?
-Good.

-You want to try giving him a gentle feed?
-Yeah.

[Ali] Okay, here you go.

[Izzy] Good boy, Ranger.

He looks so much better this morning.

-He's a messy eater.
-[Ali] I know.

A lot of it is dripping down his chin.

[Izzy] He's taking his milk really well.

He slept really well last night.

I really want to introduce him
to the other koalas.

Twinkle, especially.

I think the more, like, warmth and cuddles

that Twinkle can give him,

the more confident, less nervous,

and the more safe he feels here,
it will help him recover faster.

I'm not sure that this little boy
is at that point yet.

A baby as small as Ranger
can take up to a week

before he might
come out of his shell enough

to want to meet anybody else.

We just got to take it day by day.

[Izzy] I have an idea, Mum.

If I put him down

and maybe if I put the toy koala
in front of him

and Ranger's cuddling onto the toy koala,

maybe it's a sign
that we can introduce him.

It'll let Ranger show us when he's ready.

[Ali] Yeah, that's possible.

Ranger, you have to show me
that you're confident enough

to walk over to the toy koala

so that you'll be able to meet
a real-life koala like Twinkle.

I think meeting Twinkle
will help you feel happier.

You won't be as lonely.

Come on, Ranger. You can do this.

You can tell that he's still quite scared.

He's not exploring.

He's not curious enough yet.

It doesn't matter how slow we go.

I'll just make sure
that you feel comfortable.

We'll try again tomorrow.

[upbeat music plays]

[Izzy] Ranger, look!

Oh!

It's good that you're exploring.

Do you think that you can
climb up on this toy koala, Ranger?

[whispers] Wrong way.

We'll try again tomorrow.

Are you ready today, Ranger?

You can do this.

Ranger, you're getting more curious.

If you keep this up,
you'll be able to meet Twinkle soon.

We'll try again tomorrow.

-[owl hooting]
-[birds chirping]

[Izzy] Come on, Ranger.
I know you can do it.

I need to see that you're confident enough
to meet Twinkle.

Keep going, Ranger. You're so close.

You can do this.

[chuckles] Oh!

Good job, Ranger.

That's so good.

I'm so proud of you.

He's definitely happier.
He's more confident.

He went from being really curled up
and small and sad

to running over and jumping up

onto something
that he feels comfortable with.

So, these are great signs
that he's ready to meet Twinkle.

Oh!

[chuckles]

That was adorable. [chuckles]

Let's introduce you to Twinkle.

Are you excited, Ranger?

You're gonna meet Twinkle today.

[Ali] Hey, little Twinkle.

How you going, baby girl?

You wanna go and meet Ranger?

I think Twinkle's the perfect koala baby
for you to meet.

[Ali] Come on.

She's kind, she's caring,

and she knows how you feel.

Hello!

Hello! Look who I've got.

-[Izzy] Hi!
-[Ali] Shh.

[Izzy] Ranger, meet Twinkle.

Twinkle, meet Ranger.

Ranger's very excited to see you.

He's been waiting so long.

Twinkle, you need to be
a really caring big sister to him

'cause he's really scared.

Are you two just checking each other out
by smelling each other?

[sniffs]

-Maybe we can pop him next to Twinkle.
-Yeah.

[Ali whispers] Slowly, slowly. Yes.

That's it.

[Izzy] Aw, good job, Ranger.

Twinkle's incredibly patient.

[Ali] She really is such a sweet girl.

Thank you, Twinkle, for looking after him.

I think they're a pretty good match. Yeah?

I think that's the face
of contentment from Ranger.

Just the fact that he can now
cuddle somebody else.

This is really going to help Ranger
with his recovery,

just like it has done
for the other babies.

He's so comfortable
that he's fallen asleep.

That's exactly what he would do
with his mum in the wild.

Yeah, he would. Just goes to show
how important koala cuddles are.

[Izzy] This is the sign of a happy koala.

[snoring]

In this episode, you saw me
and my family helping wild animals.

If you see an animal
that you think might be sick or injured,

don't approach it, tell an adult,

and ask them
to call a trained professional.
