[Izzy] There you go, Chompy.

Here you go. Here's some leaf.

[munching]

[laughing] He's so loud!

Today's a really big day, Chompy,

'cause Princess Leia's getting released.

I know.
It'll be really hard to say goodbye.

I will miss her,
'cause Leia's my best friend.

But it's what's best for her.

Thank you, Chompy,
for making me feel a little bit better.

I'm happy I have you here.

[pop]

Hi, Leia.

I missed you.

Hello!

Good girl, Leia.

This is your final checkup.

And then if everything goes well,
you'll be able to be released.

She loves you.

I love her too.

Can I have a listen
to her heart and chest?

-Yep.
-Okay.

-[heartbeat]
-[Izzy] Is everything sounding okay?

Yep, perfect.

[Izzy] And we need to check for her claws.

[Ali] Look at those talons.

-They'll be brilliant for climbing trees.
-Yeah.

[Izzy] Eyes are all clear?

Eyes look perfect.

You've done the best job with her, Iz.

[Izzy] Now let's weigh you.

Ooh! Big girl!

[Izzy] She weighs over nine pounds.

[Ali] Perfect.

She's as ready as she can be.

I'm here.

[chuckling] Oh, Leia!

She's not gonna let go.

I'm a bit worried because

if Leia doesn't go out to the tree,
then...

Well, then we'll have to come up
with another plan.

Yeah, but it's just her getting
onto the tree by herself

that I'm a bit worried about.

-I think she'll go okay.
-Yeah.

I'm gonna miss her.

[Ali] We'll all miss Leia.

This is the whole reason that we do this,
isn't it?

-Yeah, but Leia's special.
-I know she is.

[Izzy] My best friend.

-All right.
-See you in a bit, Mum.

You have one more night
in the hospital with me.

[Ali] Izzy and Leia are just best friends.

They just adore each other.

[laughing]

[Izzy] It's my birthday today!

Can I have a birthday cuddle?

[Ali] Izzy has done so well with her.

I can't even say how proud I am of her.

[Izzy] Ready, Leia?

I got you.

I'll give you love today, Leia.

[Ali] But Leia's a koala, Izzy's a girl.

We live in different worlds.

The wild has always been Leia's home.

Letting Leia go is like possibly
not seeing her best friend ever again,

but she knows deep down in her heart
that this is the best thing

that she could ever possibly do for Leia.

Dad and I have gotta go
and scout you out a release spot.

I'm gonna look for the perfect tree.

It has to be tall, with branches that
you can jump around and show off in,

and a special fork for me,
so I can come and see you.

[pop]

I'll tell you all about which one we find
when we get back.

I love you. See you soon.

-Let's go, Dad.
-[Dad] All right.

[Izzy] Leia's been at the koala hospital
longer than she's been out in the wild...

so finding the right tree to release her
in is really important.

Oh, Dad, look.

This tree has some really good scratch
marks on it...

but it's not the best tree,
'cause there's some green ants.

We definitely can't release Leia here.

-No. I think we should find another tree.
-Yeah.

Dad, look!

-This tree is perfect.
-It is.

There's a tree fork for me.

-Can you help me up?
-Yep, sure.

Yeah! [laughs]

-There's tons of juicy leaf, Dad.
-Heaps.

We should make a sign so that everybody
knows that this is Leia and I's tree.

I'm making a picture of me
and Leia holding hands.

I'm personalizing this tree for Leia.

-She would expect nothing less.
-She wouldn't.

-Izzy?
-Yeah?

Are you nervous at all for her?

There's a lot of emotions.

Yeah. I feel nervous, happy,
and a little bit sad.

It's been so long we've had Leia.
Since she was a little baby.

You've looked after her all this time.
Now you'll release her.

-I'm really proud of you, Izzy.
-Thank you, Dad.

Izzy and Leia, best friends forever.

-That looks good, Iz.
-I'll put this at the bottom of the tree.

[Dad] Wow, that looks fantastic!

I think she's gonna love it.

-[Izzy] Let's go home to Leia.
-[Dad] Let's go.

[birds calling]

[Izzy whispers] Hey, Leia.

Dad, and I found you the perfect tree
to release you in, Leia.

There's nothing to be scared of.

I'm here, Leia.

You get to be a wild koala.

It's gonna be so fun out there.

This is koala paradise.

The whole island is yours.

You can make so many friends.

And there's so many trees to climb in,

with nice, lush, juicy leaf.

I know that you're ready to go,

but you need to believe
that you're ready to go too, Leia.

I'm back, Leia.

[whispers] Leia.

Your ears tickle.

-Hey, Iz.
-Hi, Mum.

How are you going, Iz?

I'm kind of worried that she'll
have trouble saying goodbye to me

from, like, holding onto me
to going in that tree,

to actually being brave enough to let go.

That's the bit
that we all hold our breath,

and wait, and then, hopefully,
she'll go up the tree.

-But once she's up that tree, she's free.
-She's free.

[Izzy] She can't be inside walls anymore.

[Ali] We only kept her in the enclosures
to keep her safe

and to wait till she'd grown up.

And she's grown up,
that's all thanks to you.

-It's up to Leia now.
-Yeah.

Okay, is she ready, Iz?

I love you, Leia.

And I'm really proud of you.

I think she's ready.

[Ali] It's okay. Come on.

[Izzy] Good girl, Leia.

It's all right.

[Ali] I have some concerns.

You can never guarantee ever
how a release is going to go.

Her release is trickier because she's been
with us ever since she was tiny.

You're gonna be in koala paradise, Leia.

[Ali] I just hope that her instinct,
being a wild koala, will kick in

and she will take off up that tree.

[Izzy] We're home, Leia.

[birdsong]

This is the tree, Leia.

Whoa.

It looks brilliant.

Well done.

This is your new home, Leia.

You're gonna have to be brave for me.

[Ali] Oh, she's coming. She's coming.
Let her just come to you, Iz, first.

-Yeah.
-[Ali] It's okay, sweetheart.

-Oh, good girl, Leia.
-Good girl.

-Good girl.
-It's all right.

-Okay.
-Right.

Last cuddles, and then you're free to go.

I love you Leia.

-[Ali] I'm sure she loves you too, Iz.
-Yeah.

Now's a good a time as any.

All right, Leia, it's time to go home.

[whispers] Okay, baby.

[kisses] Good luck.

See ya. Good luck.

All right.

Here you go, Leia.

-Good girl.
-[Ali] That's it.

Good girl, Leia.

Go on. You can do this.

Be brave, Leia.

You're free to go now.

[Ali] She's scared. She's cautious.

She's just doing all the things
a wild koala should do.

Looking at her surroundings
and seeing what's out there.

[Dad] What do you think, Izzy?

Maybe if we find, like,
a smaller tree to start her off with?

[Ali] Yeah. All right.

-You gonna go up, Iz?
-Yes.

I'm here for you, Leia.

We're gonna find you the best tree.

Don't be scared, Leia. Spin yourself.

[Ali] That's it. Good girl.

-Good girl. That's it.
-[Dad] I can help you out, Iz.

[Ali] Dad's got you. I've got you.

[Izzy laughs]

Okay.

Let's see if you like this tree, Leia.

All right. You got this, Leia.

You go up that tree.

Good girl.

You can do it, Leia.

I believe in you.

Look at her, Mum. She's jumping.

-Whoa! That's it, sweet.
-[Dad] There you are!

Good girl, Leia.

I'm really proud of you.

I'm happy now.

Now that she's home.

Brilliant job, Iz. Well done.

-Thank you.
-The best job.

-Look at her.
-Well done, Iz. We're proud of you.

[Ali] She's just checking everything out.
Look at that little nose going.

-Yeah.
-Smelling all the new sniffs.

-[sniffing]
-[Dad] Do you think we should leave her?

[birds calling]

Well, she certainly doesn't wanna
come back down.

-[Dad] Nope. Quite happy.
-No, that's good.

[Izzy] You're home.

I'll leave you to get used to the place.

Bye, Leia. I'll miss you.

I'll check on you on Monday.

[Izzy] Time to check on Princess Leia.

[birdsong]

I don't see Leia,

but that's a good thing,
because that means she's had the courage

to go off and find somewhere else to live.

This is what I want for her.

I mean, I'll miss Leia, but I don't want
her in the koala hospital all the time.

She needs to go out there
and create a new generation of koalas.

She's living her own life now.

I learned a lot from Leia.

She taught me animals have feelings,

and their lives matter
as much as our lives do.

And I'm gonna take
everything I learned from Leia

and put it into caring for Chompy
and any others that come through.

Our climate is changing, and
there's a lot of animals that need help,

especially koalas.

Things are really hard for them right now.

Even though not everybody can run
a koala hospital,

you can do, like, the smallest thing,
like plant a tree.

That's where a koala could live.

Planting one single tree
provides a home to so many.

There's always something you can do.

Small things can make a big difference.

But right now, I need to focus on Chompy,

because
he's the next generation of koalas,

and one day,
Chompy will be out here with Leia.

In this episode, you saw me
and my family helping wild animals.

If you see an animal
that you think might be sick or injured,

don't approach it, tell an adult and
ask them to call a trained professional.
