Is It Cake? (2022–…): Season 2, Episode 5 - S'more Cake Please - full transcript

Bakers re-create the great outdoors with realistic cakes inspired by camping gear. Guest judges: Brandon Kyle Goodman, Cristela Alonzo and Kate Flannery.

-[upbeat music plays]
-[creature howls]

Here it comes! Here it comes!

-[Pete] Oh, wow.
-[Elizabeth] Oh my... This is...

Wow.

-This is very interesting.
-I mean, cute.

Hi, bakers.

[laughter]

-Oh my gosh! Really?
-That's amazing.

The great outdoors, bakers.

The smell of pine, the sound of wildlife,

and of course,

me in Boy Scout shorts.

-[laughter]
-Ow!

-[laughter]
-Tsss.

[woman] Wow.

I have Gollum's legs.

-Sickening!
-Thank you, Danya.

[Danya] Sorry.

-Wow.
-[laughter]

Okay.

We're halfway through the season
and getting closer to the finale.

The stakes are going up,

and so is the Cake Or Cash? prize,

-which is now $10,000.
-Whoo-hoo!

Today, one of you could walk away
with up to $15,000.

That is a lot of money.

-Whoo!
-So are you all ready to go camping?

-Yay.
-Yes.

Let's play Find That Cake!

-[applause]
-[grunts]

-[contestants] Whoo!
-[upbeat drum rhythm]

-[bird calls]
-Let's see how sharp your cake eyes are.

As you can see,
there is a campsite behind me,

and yes, there's one cake in it.

-You've got to find it.
-Oh my God.

So you will have 20 seconds
to write down your answer.

The fastest three bakers to find a cake
will compete today.

I'm gonna be in my tent.

[laughter]

Your time starts now.

-[tense music playing]
-[timer beeping]

Fifteen seconds.

Ten seconds!

Five, four, three, two, one.

-Time's up!
-[bell jingles]

[Kayla] Hmm.

This is wild.

Okay, let's see how you did.

[woman] Whoo-hoo!

-[Pete] Oh!
-[applause]

-[Spirit] Swanky man.
-That's a bit dapper for the woods.

[laughs]

Let's find some cake.

Yes.

-Miko, you wrote down "charcuterie board."
-[laughter]

[Miko] I don't know
how to call that one, so...

No, it's a fun camping thing.
"Hey, son, grab the charcuterie board!"

[laughter]

For this, I'm gonna need...

-my hatchet.
-[dramatic music plays]

[woman] Wow.

Now, Miko, this is the charcuterie board
you were speaking of, correct?

[Miko] Yeah.

So you're saying this whole thing is cake?

-The entire display. Like, the s'mores.
-Okay. Let's find out.

Okay.

[suspenseful music plays]

Oh! Oh!

No.

-[Danya laughs]
-It's not.

That was aggressive. [laughs]

All right, Kayla.

-Yes.
-[Mikey] You wrote down "campfire."

I did. The rocks look cakey.

Let's find out if the rocks are cake.

[suspenseful music playing]

No. Not cake.

The hunt is on!

-Spirit.
-Yes.

You wrote down "lantern." Why?

Because the glass wasn't clear
and the black looks fondant-ish.

-[Mikey] Should we find out?
-We should.

Oh, ****. Sorry!

[shocked laughter]

-What did you say?
-I said, "Shoot!"

It looked like cake on the bottom.
What is that?

-It could be isomalt.
-Is it cake?

All right, let's further investigate here.

[tense music playing]

-[woman gasps]
-[Mikey] Wait!

[contestants gasping] Oh!

It's cake!

-Spirit was right!
-Holy kamoley.

It looked like cake on the bottom!

-[Mikey] You were right. It is fondant.
-[Spirit] Oh my gosh.

-Wow.
-Spirit.

Yes.

-Danya.
-No!

Elizabeth.

[Danya] Oh!

[Mikey] You three found the lantern.
You were the only ones that got it.

So you will be competing
for up to $15,000 today.

The rest of you, head over to the gallery.
You will be competing next time.

-I don't need this anymore.
-[axe clangs]

-[laughter]
-That'll work.

Now, for the lucky three of you,
it's time to play

Is It Cake?

-Yay!
-[upbeat drum rhythm]

[applause]

Each of you will choose an outdoor item
that you will replicate into a cake.

Spirit, you found the cake the fastest,
which means you get first pick.

[Spirit] Mmm.

The pressure!

I'm gonna do the kettle.

[Mikey] The kettle?
If you're confident, I'm confident.

I feel comfortable doing it.

Our second-fastest baker was Danya.

[grunts]

What are you going with?

[Danya] I don't know!

I think I'm gonna do the flashlight.

-[Mikey] Good call.
-[Elizabeth] I was gonna go for that.

Really? I'm sorry.

-No, it's okay.
-[Mikey] Elizabeth?

Since Danya's going with the flashlight,

I am gonna go with the canteen.

-[Mikey] The canteen?
-[Elizabeth] Yes.

Remember, one of you will be eliminated
from the competition today,

and one of you could win up to $15,000.

[whooping and applause]

Now that only three of you are baking,
it's your time to shine alone.

You each get a cake wall spin
all to yourself.

-Yes!
-It will be your cake and three decoys.

Nice.

You'll have eight hours
to complete your cakes, so...

Let's go.

-Campers, it's time to bake.
-[Spirit] Yes!

-Go!
-[woman] Go, go, go, go!

And don't get bit by any mosquitoes.

[fast-paced music playing]

One of them are gonna go home,
and then one of us.

It's everybody's ball game.

Will you try my buttercream?
I don't know if it needs more coffee.

-More coffee.
-I put so much in there.

I've put a quarter cup of coffee in here,
and it doesn't taste like coffee.

We've all been struggling
with really large cakes,

so I wanted to make something small.

This looks so good.

But the flashlight is detailed,

and the glass piece
can be very hard to mimic.

And if it doesn't work,

I won't have enough time
to make another one.

Elizabeth just won the previous challenge.

Spirit is literally a powerhouse.

One of us has to go home,

and I don't want it to be either of them,
but I don't want it to be me.

I'm questioning things.

What are you making, Danya?

I'm making
a caramel macchiato crunch cake.

Ooh.

-Get you that sugar fix and the caffeine.
-[laughs] Yeah.

I am making a coffee vanilla cake,

a coffee Swiss buttercream,

a salted caramel and crunchy toffee bits

in a flashlight.

Do you have an oven preference?

[Elizabeth] Uh, like 325.

Oh, I mean, like,
whichever one you prefer.

I was like, "I don't know, Danya.
What's your oven preference?"

What do you think about the fact
that we now have more decoys?

[Spirit] I am excited
to have the extra decoy.

-Although it's only my cake on the stage.
-Yeah.

-So...
-[Elizabeth] I know!

[Spirit] I picked the kettle
because it's like a cone shape.

I love carving cakes, and hopefully
I can carve a space into the finale.

I got things to do, money to win.

But I definitely have my work cut out
for me trying to color match stuff.

It's not really my strength.

But we're gonna knock it out. Easy!

Spirit, what are your flavors?

I'm doing my baby's favorite.

You know it saved me in my first challenge
with that kettlebell cake.

-True.
-If it isn't broken, don't fix it, right?

Absolutely.

For my kettle cake,
I'm making a vanilla cake

with cookie butter filling

and a Swiss meringue cookie butter
and cookie crumble.

I'm using the same recipe
from my first challenge,

'cause the recipe saved me.

[Elizabeth] So this is what
camping's all about. S'mores.

-Yay!
-Ooh, s'mores.

I was wondering
if anybody was gonna make s'mores.

Of course. Yes!

I picked the canteen because it's got
lots of detail on it, lots of stitching.

It'll be something that,
if I can pull off and get it right,

I would be one step closer to the finale.

I'm making
a campfire s'mores flavored cake.

Very fitting!

[Elizabeth] I'm making
a vanilla cinnamon cake.

And then, for the chocolate portion,
I'm gonna do a brownie layer

with a toasted marshmallow buttercream

and some cookie butter buttercream
in there,

just to kind of take that cookie flavor
to the next level.

Hey, Elizabeth, you said you grew up
outdoors. Did you go to camp and stuff?

-Once I moved to Texas.
-[Spirit] Yeah.

Yes, I got to do proper camping.

That's really cool.

[Danya] How long have you been in Texas?

-Going on 16 years.
-Cool. Is there a reason you moved there?

-A cowboy.
-[laughs]

-It's always the cowboy.
-It's always the cowboys.

-[Danya] Yeah.
-I do have an amazing fiancé.

We are due to be married next year.

The usual love story.

British girl meets cowboy, gets swept off
her feet. You know, that old nutshell.

[crowd] Aww.

Do you remember how old you was
when you had your first s'mores?

I honestly was, like, an adult.
I never had s'mores.

Me too. What about you, Spirit?
Do you remember your first s'mores?

Uh, yeah. My foster mother,
she would send us to camp

whenever she had an opportunity.

We went to, like, summer camp,
spring camp, winter camp,

just because camp,
get out of my house camp.

[laughs]

[Danya] So funny.

Growing up in foster care,
I was very grateful

that we ended up with a foster mother

who created a very healthy
family environment for us.

Now I partner up with foundations that are
giving back to at-risk and foster youth.

Cakes coming out.

[contestants] Oh!

-Oh!
-Oh!

Who's there?

-It's Mikey.
-Hi, Mikey!

-Oh, it's bakers.
-[chuckles]

-I'm here with your camping decoys.
-Thank you.

Remember, you each get three decoys
this time, so go crazy.

Who are you?

-I have sensitive eyes.
-[laughs] They even have liquid in them.

-Do you need help?
-[Spirit] Um, yes, of course.

Thank you, Mikey.

I'm your decoy boy.

[laughter]

[bird calls]

[Danya] I'm truckin' on.

[Elizabeth] Easy-peasy.

[Danya] A lot of chocolate.

-Let's go.
-[Danya] This one's a little different.

Something that I really love doing
is making molds.

I took classes on making molds
for my art in college,

and it's a big part
of not only my art practice,

but also doing cakes.

Oh, this is taking forever!

I get a mold made of the flashlight,

and then put my yellow chocolate
in the mold.

I'm worried about the color.

I need this yellow to be on point.

Then I layer my cake
inside of my chocolate

while everything is still encased
in the mold.

I just have to hope
there are no air bubbles, no gaps.

Oh, yikes.

My mold was not great.

And of course, there are bubbles and gaps.

So it has a bunch of extra chocolate
pieces that I'm gonna have to remove.

A lot of cleaning up I'll need to do.

If I'm not extra cautious, the yellow
chocolate on the outside could crack,

and then I'll have to do it
all over again.

My flashlight looks
like a tiny little trash can.

Let's go.

I'm thinking about the details,
and I'm very comfortable with it.

The only real problem I see right now is
trying to match that very specific blue.

-How's it going?
-It's going.

About to color match and stuff.
It got no black in it.

It's just royal-ass blue.

It's very important
to get this blue right,

because if it's standing next
to the actual item and it's too light,

it's gonna stick out like a sore thumb.

It's going on, Mama.

It's too dark.

I'm completely in distress.

I cannot get this color right.

Just keep working. You got it.

With modeling chocolate,
you really can't color match it too long

or it becomes gummy and it can fall apart.

There's a lot of pressure.

Let it sit, color it again.

But I work amazing under pressure.

It's just a little challenge.
All right, move on.

Let's do this.

You got four hours, campers.

[timer beeping]

Does anyone have any camping stories?

There's an old Cajun witch
named Madame Grand Doigt.

And one year, my pawpaw got this mask
and, like, came out of his camper.

Me and my cousins
were freaking out, screaming.

-Like, "Pawpaw, don't do that!"
-[laughter]

-"Pawpaw, you almost scared me!"
-[laughter]

It's funny how, when we pick our cakes,

we're like,
"That's not gonna be too much."

-And then it is. [laughs]
-It's always too much!

I always pick things
with detail and stitching.

The stitching on the canteen
is so complicated,

but the Doc Marten boot
was pretty much the same kind of thing

and I won $5,000.

So I think I stand a really good chance
of fooling the judges.

[grunts]

This time, for Cake Or Cash?,
it's actually $10,000,

and that means I can actually

work on fixing
all the damage to my house. [laughs]

There was this really huge freeze
in Texas.

We had, like, nine pipes burst,

and so I'm actually missing
parts of the ceiling in multiple places.

I really, really would like to win.

Bloody heck, that's good.

Oooh.

You don't need to go camping
to experience ghost stories.

We have a lot of ghosts at home.

-Will you tell us a story?
-Yeah, sure.

[thunder crashes]

I'm not crazy, but all these things
happened back home.

-Okay.
-There was one time, 12 midnight,

my phone went blank.

An image appeared.

I could see a face of a boy.

-[boy's laughter echoes]
-The eyes were hollow, but it was like...

[eerie laughter]

-[Mikey] Smiling?
-Like, smiling.

And then voices, like...
[echoing] "Miko, Miko, Miko, Miko!"

-[echoing] "Miko, Miko, Miko, Miko!"
-Wow.

-There's also shadows.
-Oh, shadows too.

Oh!

The shadow people.

[laughter]

Oh! Sorry.

With only a couple of hours left,

I need to make some isomalt glass
for the front of the flashlight,

and attach everything all together.

To make the lens of my flashlight,

I pour clear isomalt,
and it really looks like glass.

I feel good about it.

Oh my gosh!

Two hours, bakers. Two hours left.

All right. Stand back, have a look.

Getting the suede look on my cake,

I'm actually using a technique
called flocking.

And what it is, is you take wafer paper
and you blitz it down

until you get really, really fine
little flakes-slash-dust,

and you just put it on top of your fondant

and it gives it, like,
a velvety kind of look.

Look, Spirit. Suede!

What is that?
Brown sugar? Graham cracker?

[Elizabeth] Wafer paper.
It's what Danya did on her shoe as well.

I've only seen tutorials.
I was like, "That's cool."

It's a little bit risky,
or quite a lot risky really.

I've just got to hope I can pull it off.

I think we have suede.

[sighs] Okay.

Why do I always
have to pick stuff with stitching?

There really isn't a quick method that
I can just knock out that darn stitching.

[sighs] Okay.

I'm gonna have to suck it up
and just pipe every single stitch.

All right, whose idea was it
to pick this? [chuckles]

[upbeat music playing]

[Elizabeth] Wee!

Piping hundreds of stitching is fun.

[Spirit] Come on, almost done, girl!

For the handle,
I decide to just do modeling chocolate.

I just run a thin wire through it
just to add a little stability.

Oh my goodness. That is freaking amazing.

One hour left, bakers. One hour.

[Spirit] Mine is acting up today.

Color matching took, like,
three and a half hours of my time,

but it's still not right.

So I have to come
with a different strategy.

You know what? I'm just gonna paint it.

Hopefully it'll work.

I'm looking down at the floor,

and the floors in the kitchen
are black with white splatter.

Come on. Gotta be black for me, okay?

Spirit, what you got going on
with those paints, girl?

-For my decoys so that I can paint them.
-Okay.

There's two types of paints.
There's acrylic for the decoys,

and edible stuff for the cake.

The floor inspired me.
They'll be black with white speckles.

-Okay.
-Oh, wow.

There you go, Spirit.
You're standing on the idea. [laughs]

Gotta just paint, paint, paint,
and speckle.

Thirty minutes left, bakers.

How many?

[timer beeping]

Time is almost up
and I see my isomalt getting cloudy,

which can happen
when there's a lot of humidity.

So I need to make the decoys
match this kind of cloudy look.

[groans]

So I paint the glass a similar gray color,

which could go well,
or it could be a disaster.

[groans]

-Bakers, only 15 minutes left.
-[timer beeping]

-Oh my God.
-[Spirit] Time to spickle spackle!

[sighs]

[Elizabeth] Now that I've got
my side stitching done,

which took a lot longer
than I would have liked,

just got straps and buckles and details,
all these other things to do.

Ugh!

Time's running out.

Yeah. Fingers crossed.

Five minutes.

-This is five minutes left, bakers.
-Oh my God.

[fast-paced music playing]

Mine has a little shine.
I need to matte them all.

She should be careful.

When I spray the edible matte on my cake,
it gets too dark.

With a last-minute decision,
that's where you gotta be careful.

This is it. Ten seconds, bakers.

[Mikey grunting]

[grunts]

Five,

four, three,

two,

one.

-Time's up!
-[contestants] Whoo!

-Wow, the lights!
-Good job, good job!

[applause and whooping]

[dramatic music plays]

[applause]

Bakers, you have outdone yourselves
with your incredible cakes,

so now it's time to meet the three people
who stand between you and up to $15,000.

The judges!

-[whooping and applause]
-You're adorable!

There you go. [laughs]

Actor and writer from Big Mouth
and Human Resources on Netflix,

and his book is called You Gotta Be You,

Brandon Kyle Goodman!

-Hey! Hey, hey, hey!
-[cheering and applause]

I love Big Mouth. Awesome show!

Yes!

Flattery won't help!

-It will.
-[laughter]

-But seriously!
-Keep going, keep going.

And your book, You Just Gotta Be You,
ask my castmates, that's what I tell 'em.

Come as you are.
You have to be you here on this show.

-I love that. Yes!
-[applause]

Anyone else wanna fawn over Brandon?

[laughter]

She's an actor, comedian, writer,

and her special, Middle Classy,
is on Netflix.

-It's Cristela Alonzo!
-Yay!

-Yay!
-[Mikey] How are you feeling?

I'm good. I didn't get a lot of fanfare
compared to Brandon, but that's okay.

You know what? My intro is, "She's here,"
and that's enough for me.

[Mikey] That would be great. She's here.

Cristela Alonzo!

-Yay!
-[whooping and applause]

Actor and comedian,
you know her from The Office,

legend in the building,

it's Kate Flannery!

-What's up?
-[cheering and applause]

Whoo!

Legend! Legend!

[laughs]

How are you doing?

Uh, I'm feeling, uh, very legendary.

[laughter]

Judges, here's what's going to happen.

Over the course of three spins,
you are going to try to find three cakes.

At the end of it all,
you will decide today's winner

and which baker
is eliminated from the competition.

-And today, we're going camping!
-Whoo!

Yay!

-I love camping!
-[laughter]

We are going to give you 20 seconds
to try and find the cake

and lock in your answer
on the keypad in front of Cristela.

Now, on more than one occasion,

we've seen stumped judges panic
and not lock in their answers in time.

Our bakers are really talented,
so make sure you get the answers in.

You guys good?

-All day.
-We got this.

We're good.

All day! All right.

-All day, we're good.
-All day, all night, period.

Up first, we have Spirit.

[cheering and applause]

Cake wall, spin.

[dramatic music playing]

Okay, judges. Coming around now
are four camping kettles.

One of them is cake.

Yikes.

[Mikey] And it's your job
to try and find it

if you can.

Your time starts now.

-[timer beeping]
-[judges] Ooh.

[laughter]

I so... was not ready for this.

-[Cristela] One could be cake.
-[Brandon] Could also be a trap.

That's how they get you!
Okay, Two seems normal.

Wow.

[Mikey] Ten seconds.

-[Brandon] Three has...
-[Cristela] Three's a little dull.

-Three looks different from the rest.
-[Cristela] Three is dull.

-But Four...
-Four is a little shiny. Choose Four!

[stammering] What about One?

-[Brandon] One's big for a kettle.
-[Mikey] Five seconds.

-What do you think? One?
-[Kate] Just do Three!

One or Three?

-[Mikey] Three, two.
-Three! Pick one!

-[Mikey] One!
-Oh no. Did we get it? [laughs]

Is it cake?

[Mikey] Wow, that was a roller coaster.

[Brandon] That just brought out
a lot out of me! Woof!

Judges.

You did not lock in your answer in time.

I gave you a warning beforehand
about locking it in.

-It's challenging!
-It is.

There's three minds coming together.

-[Kate] We're a committee.
-We're collaborating.

It's a theme.

This is the third time
this has happened this season,

which means Spirit confused our judges,

and you're up for the win today!

[woman] Whoo-hoo!

Oh my God.

-[laughter and applause]
-Wow!

-[Cristela] That's crazy.
-Go, Spirit.

Whoo.

What would you have picked
if your answer was locked in?

I was obsessed with Number One.

I think it's maybe too obvious,
which is why it could be.

All right, let's get some answers.

-Oh! Oh.
-[Brandon] Okay. This is the moment.

I've watched this on TV.
Come on! I'm so excited.

It's cuttin' time!

Cut it up, Daddy.

-Oh!
-[laughter]

Whoo!

[Cristela] What did you just say?

[laughter]

[Brandon] Let's go.

-Kate, you were feeling Number One.
-I was.

[Mikey] You were suspicious.

I know, it's so obvious, though.
But it's like...

To quote our panel, it's cuttin' time.

-Whoo!
-[laughter]

[tense music playing]

Oh!

[Brandon] Decoy! I told y'all. A scam!

-Not cake.
-[Kate] Wow!

Literally I thought that, Number One,
if it wasn't cake, it'd be meatloaf.

I thought you were gonna cut and...
I'm so disappointed.

Where should we go next?

Well, we said Three.

All right, let's find out.

Cut it, cut it, cut it.

[judges chanting] Cut it! Cut it! Cut it!
Cut it! Cut it! Cut it! Cut it! Cut it!

Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut!

[all] Ooh!

[shouting]

That is cake.

[applause]

Let's hear it for Spirit!

-Whoo!
-[applause]

Yay!

Okay, let's move on to Danya.

Cake wall, spin!

[tense music playing]

Danya made something
to keep away the darkness.

A flashlight.

-Ooh!
-[Brandon] Okay.

-Oh my gosh.

You have 20 seconds to try and find it.

Your time starts now.

-[tense music playing]
-[timer beeping]

[Brandon] Oh, shoot.

Oh gosh. Uh, uh, uh, One is interesting.

-Two is very different.
-[Brandon] Damn.

[Cristela] Okay. Oh, man.

-Three is a different color.
-[Brandon] Three's a different color.

[Cristela] And Four is very shiny,
which could be...

It could be a throw-off. Like a...

[Cristela groans]

[Mikey] Ten seconds.

-[Cristela] Which one?
-[Brandon] Three or Four.

You wanna do Three or Four?

[Brandon] Four!

[Mikey] Five seconds. Lock it in.

-[Brandon] One or Three!
-[Kate] One or Three.

-[Kate and Brandon] Three!
-[bell jingles]

[Mikey] Time's up!

[whooping and applause]

-[Cristela] We locked it!
-[Brandon] We did!

-We picked an answer!
-"We locked it! We locked it!"

-Okay. Okay.
-[laughter]

-[Mikey] You locked in Three.
-[bell dings]

How are we feeling?

-I'm not sure.
-[laughter]

-Stressed.
-"I don't even know what I pushed."

[laughter]

Let's see how you did.

-[Brandon] Wow.
-[Kate] Oh gosh.

-Wow, wow.
-Oh gosh.

-What made you think this is cake?

[Cristela] The color of it, for me.

It seems like a different color
than the other ones.

[Kate] It's a little less uniform.

It's a little less uniform
than Two and Four, for sure.

Which could be a decoy, though.

Hey, Brandon, what time is it?

Cuttin' time! Come on, Daddy!

-Cut it, cut it, cut it!
-Okay!

-Cut it! Hey, hey, hey!
-Oh, oh, oh!

[laughter]

Danya, if this is cake,
you're up for elimination.

If it's not, you're up for the win today,
along with Spirit.

All right, let's see if this is cake.

[suspenseful music playing]

Cut it! Cut it!

-Damn!
-Oh!

[cheering]

Not cake!

[woman] Oh!

-[cheering]
-[Mikey] Congrats, Danya!

You fooled our judges,

-and you are up for the win.
-Wow.

And that means
you could take home up to $15,000.

[sighs] Yes, oh my gosh.

Which one is it then?

Was there a second-place flashlight
you guys were thinking? Anyone?

-I'd say One would be second.
-One or Four.

All right. Let's see if this is cake.

-[all] Oh!
-[applause]

That is cake.

-Whoa.
-Wow!

[Kate] Congratulations.

[Mikey] Well done!

[Brandon] Very well done.

-Nice work, Danya. That was incredible.
-[exhales]

That was lit!

-[laughter]
-[Brandon] There you go!

That cake was lit.

That was expert. Well done.

Cake puns all day long.
Cake puns all day long.

All right, our final baker is Elizabeth.

-Whoo!
-[applause]

And she made you a canteen
from the Oregon Trail.

-Very old-school canteen.
-Ooh.

Cake wall, spin.

[dramatic music playing]

Coming around are four canteens,
and one of them is...

-Cake.
-Still.

-[laughs]
-[Mikey] Your time

starts now.

-[tense music plays]
-[timer beeping]

[Cristela] What are we looking at?

-Okay, okay, hold on.
-[Brandon] One looks really pristine.

[Kate] One doesn't seem to curve as much.

Two is weird, two is weird, two is weird.

[laughter]

Now I think it's Three.

It's a different color.

[Kate] Ah.

Four is very clean. Four is very clean.

-[Mikey] Ten seconds.
-[Brandon] Oh, snap!

-One or Four?
-[Kate] Two is very different.

[Brandon] Two does look different.

[Mikey] Five seconds.
You need to lock it in.

-[Cristela] What do you think?
-Two or Four! You do it!

I feel like it's Four. Pick Four!

-[Brandon grunts]
-[bell dings]

-Time's up!
-[Brandon] We got it!

[Cristela] Oh, we picked it!

[Mikey] You picked Number Four.

-[Kate] We did.
-[Brandon] Yes, we did.

So many contenders
for catchphrase of this episode.

However, a new entry is, "Two is weird!"

[laughter]

-Two is weird!
-[Brandon] Two is weird!

-[laughter]
-[Mikey] Two is weird!

-That's so funny.
-Two is weird, though.

[laughter]

Let's see if it's weird because it's cake.

Who knows what it is?

[suspenseful music playing]

-No. No. That's a canteen.
-[applause]

-Two is just weird.
-That's really weird.

Okay, judges, you picked Number Four.

-Yes, we did.
-We did.

-We did.
-Cut it.

[laughter]

Brandon.

I gotta ask you the question!

"Cut it."

Cuttin' time!

[laughs]

What made you guys think this was cake?

-Smooth.
-It's very pristine.

-It's cleaner than the others.
-[Kate] Pristine. Yeah.

-Looks brand-new.
-Oh.

-[Brandon] It's gorgeous.
-It hasn't quenched anyone's thirst yet.

[laughter]

But it's about to quench ours,
'cause it's cake!

[Kate] It's cake.

Wow, the confidence!

Okay, Elizabeth,

if this is cake, you will be eliminated.

If it's not, you are up for the win today
along with Spirit and Danya.

I want you to be up for the win,
but I also want to win. It's wild.

[laughs]

[exhales] Here we go.

[tense music playing]

Oh gosh. Oh gosh.

No! Not cake.

-[Elizabeth] Yes!
-[cheering]

-[Cristela] I'm so glad that's not cake!
-No way.

Just gonna put my head
between my legs real quickly.

I know, right?

Congrats, Elizabeth.

You fooled the judges,

and you are up for the win today.

Thank you for getting it wrong!

[laughter]

Two guesses so far. Both are wrong.
Where am I going next?

Now I think it's Three,
I just love the Number Three.

So now you're saying Three?

[Brandon] Yeah, let's do Three.

All right, let's see.

Ooh.

[Cristela] Mmm!

[Mikey] Oh!

-That is cake!
-[applause]

Wow!

-[Kate] Nice.
-[Mikey] Look at that.

Congrats. The judges were not able to find
any of your cakes, which means...

[suspenseful music playing]

Wait for it.

No one is going home today!

You're all safe,

and you're all moving forward,
one step closer to the finale.

-Okay.
-Season two is completely insane!

[Danya] Oh my God.

-Oh my God.
-[laughing]

Wow!

-Oh my God!
-[Mikey] Can you believe it?

-No!
-No.

Okay, judges, you've been through a lot,

and now it's finally time for you
to come taste these amazing cakes.

-Yes.
-Well, I guess.

My favorite.

Cake wall, spin.

[dramatic music plays]

All right, judges, head up to the cakes
for a much closer look.

-[Brandon] Yes!
-[Cristela] What?

Spirit, kindly tell the judges
about the flavors in your cake.

[Spirit] It's a vanilla cake
with a cookie butter filling,

and a cookie butter Italian meringue
buttercream, and cookie crumbles.

-[Cristela] Okay, cookie butter!
-[Kate and Brandon] Wow!

What is the icing? You call it icing?

So it's covered in a chocolate ganache,
and the outside is modeling chocolate.

Your ganache has panache.

[laughter]

All right, let's move on to Danya's cake.

[Danya] So it's a coffee cake
and buttercream,

and then there's a salted caramel,

and there should be
some toffee bits as well.

-[Brandon] Wow, that's good.
-Oh, and crunchy!

-It's crunchy!
-Coffee toffee. [laughs]

The caramel and the coffee toffee

and the cake itself all together
really becomes an explosion in your mouth.

-It's so good.
-Thank you.

Just aesthetically, it looks...

Do you see the details? The little ridges
and everything. It's insane.

-I would mess this up at home for myself.
-[Cristela] Oh my God.

[Brandon] I'd be in trouble.
I would mess this up.

That's so funny.

All right, judges, please move on
to Elizabeth's cake. Elizabeth?

I went with a s'mores-inspired cake.

Instead of graham cracker layer, you have
a brown sugar cinnamon vanilla cake,

a toasted marshmallow buttercream,

and then there's
a cookie butter buttercream in there.

And the chocolate for my s'mores
is actually a brownie layer.

The chocolate is very complex.
It's not like a regular chocolate.

When I tasted it, it transported me
to being six years old.

Your cake has this visceral,
emotional feeling to it when I eat it.

It's really quite beautiful.

Aside from the taste,
can we talk about the leather trim?

-Is this leather?
-It's... [laughs]

The red stitching was all piped by hand,

and then I did a tiny little braid mold
on the top.

Oh my God.

Judges, please take a minute
and decide our winner.

The kettle I like
'cause it looked like steel and iron.

This looks like plastic,
and this looks like leather.

Everything looks accordingly.

This is so much better
than deciding a loser.

What I liked about the kettle was it was
nostalgic because of the authenticity.

-Yes.
-[Cristela] It looked very real.

[Kate] Even though I love
the cookie butter of the kettle,

the flashlight blew me away.

There's something about the coffee flavor
and the toffee for me,

and the crunch of the toffee
that, for me, was a major home run.

The flashlight was very realistic.
Also, the flavors of that was unreal.

-The canteen had detail and flavor.
-Yes.

[Brandon] The s'mores and the camping
and the whole theme.

-The thought process.
-Right.

-The thought process was incredible.
-[Kate] She did the leather stitching.

Okay, judges, have you reached a decision?

-We have!
-We have, Mikey Day, yes.

Okay.

Well, listen,
all three cakes were fantastic.

Thank you for sharing
your artistry with us.

Upon closer look,
one of the cakes really stood out,

not just in flavor.

The details were immaculate.

Good vibes. So our winner is...

[suspenseful music playing]

[all] Elizabeth!

[cheering and applause]

-Elizabeth!
-[cheering]

Thank you.

Two in a row!
She's on a roll. Congratulations.

-You just won $5,000.
-Whoo!

That means you will move on
to the Cake Or Cash? round,

where you could win another $10,000.

Yes!

[Mikey] Danya and Spirit,
please head over to the gallery.

You both just got
one step closer to the finale.

Whoo!

Give it up for our judges,

Brandon, Cristela, and Kate.

-On any level...
-Thank you guys so much.

[Cristela] Am I in Hamilton?

-Oh my... Oh my God.
-What?

-Thank you, judges!
-Am I in Hamilton?

They... were a delight!

[Cristela] I'm in another dimension!

Do you have any idea what time it is?

Cake Or Cash?

You got it!

[dramatic music plays]

Okay, Elizabeth, you just won $5,000.

Not bad.

-Not bad.
-[cheering]

Now you're playing for the chance
to triple your money to $15,000.

-Get it, girl.
-[Mikey] I hope you get it.

-Thank you.
-To quote Spirit, get it, girl.

-Whoo! That's right, let's go!
-[applause]

Cake wall, spin.

On the other side of the cake wall
are two piles of firewood.

One of them is filled with cash,
and one is, I believe, a cake.

If you guess the cake, you get the cash.

You have 15 seconds.

-[sighs]
-And your time starts now!

-[tense music playing]
-[timer beeping]

Ten seconds, Elizabeth.

Girl.

[timer beeping]

-[Elizabeth] What the heck?
-[Mikey] Five seconds.

[Elizabeth] The pressure, Mikey!

[Mikey] Three, two, one.

-[Elizabeth] Gah!
-[bell dings]

It's the quickest 15 seconds ever.

You sure you're doing Mississippis?
Are you counting Mississippis?

[laughter]

-Okay. Elizabeth, you picked Number One.
-Yeah.

Why do you think this is cake?

It just looks slightly smoother right
at the very top compared to Number Two.

Just a little bit.

Let's see if you got it.

Ah.

-[laughter]
-My old friend, hatchet.

Without further ado,
let's see if you're right.

[suspenseful music playing]

-Dang it! Knew it!
-No!

[Elizabeth] I knew it.

-Oh no!
-No way.

-I knew it.
-[Spirit groans]

-No way!
-Elizabeth, I'm sorry.

It's okay. I'm used to it now.

[laughs]

You didn't find the cake.

[groans]

-That $10,000 goes into the finale pot.
-[Spirit] Wow.

But you still have won $10,000
so far in the competition.

-Whoo!
-I'm still very, very grateful.

This is what you get, cake!

[contestants] Ooh!

Watch your hand.

Oh my gosh.

[Mikey] That's cake.

-And I'm mad at it for being cake.
-Get it for me!

I don't like you!

[laughter]

That was crazy.

You can go ahead to the gallery.
They agreed with you.

-Congratulations.
-Thank you!

[Mikey] The next three bakers,
kindly get on up here,

because you're baking next.

We are seconds away
from playing Find That Cake.

Grab your shower cap,

because we're leaving the kitchen
and we're heading to the bathroom.

-What?
-Oh my God!

[Mikey] It's about time!

Eww, it's gonna be stinky.

[laughter]

[upbeat music playing]
