When people look at the sky,
they see clouds.
They wonder if it's going to rain.
They may imagine a dinosaur
or a sheep.
But when people on Israel's border with Gaza
look at the sky,
they look in fear.
Who knows what might be coming
Qassam rockets? Balloon bombs?
Pyrotechnic kites?
A siren? Running, to shelter?
Or maybe the local superhero
wilT come to the fescue'.
Its name is Iron Dome.

About 100 rockets were fired
in the first hour,
mostly at neighborhoods
in the western Negev.
Suddenly we heard a red alert,
then another.
It was all red alerts.
Iron Dome intercepts
dozens of rockets,
but the range of the fire increases
and reaches Beit Shemesh.

True, I left Sderot years ago
for "the city that never sleeps,"
but my art still draws on
the sleepy town'of my childhood,
a warm, lively town,
but a bit forgotten.
