Driver on.

FEMALE COMPUTER VOICE: Driver on.
Where would you like to go?

Exit the facility.

Please enter your

You're sure she didn't say anything?

She was gone before I got here.

She took one of the cars?

According to the return signal
I got a few minutes ago, yes.

Honestly.

Here she comes now.

MICA: She's not even in it.

I'm going to kill her.

At least we know it works.

Relax, I'll give her a call.

I'm doing it.

I'll give her a piece of my mind.

Sarah.

The Coroner called us due to
the unusual circumstances.

How unusual are we talking?

Well, the deceased drove
herself back to work.

Brings new meaning to Dead On Arrival.

APRIL'S VOICE: Whether for accessibility

prevention of drunk driving

or simply a stress-free commute

Zoomii?

It's a tech startup that designs rigs

and software that turn regular
cars into self-driving ones.

Here, the deceased is April Richards,

the Chief Engineer.

Cause of death?

Broken capillaries

and a reddish
discolouration on the skin.

Likely carbon monoxide poisoning.

Also specks of dried blood on her neck.

(ROBOT DOG BEEPING)

(ROBOT DOG BEEPING)

What is that?

Oh, yeah.

We're dealing with that.

That's April's robot dog.

Apparently, she brought
it with her everywhere.

(ROBOT DOG BEEPING)

Her very own Rex.

(REX BARKS)

I know, buddy. There's only one Rex.

Yeah, I still smell the exhaust.

I wonder if there's a malfunction?

I'll check the hood.

Is there any water vapour
next to the driver, on...

FEMALE COMPUTER VOICE: Driver on.
Where would you like to go?

(REX BARKING)

FEMALE COMPUTER VOICE: Sorry.
I didn't catch that.

(REX BARKING)

Sorry. I didn't catch that.

It must be the self-driving
car interface.

Uh, driver off.

FEMALE COMPUTER VOICE: Thank you.
Manual control engaged.

Talking cars.

That's new, too!

Any idea on time of death?

Rigour hasn't set yet. I'd say...

An hour, an hour and a half ago.

Tops. So... 1:30, 2:00.

No defensive wounds.

No signs of foul play in the car.

(ROBOT DOG BEEPING)

So, what do you think?

Suicide, maybe?

Seems like an elaborate way to
die without a suicide note.

Oh, hold on.

There's a bit of trauma here
at the base of the skull

underneath the hair.

Enough to kill her?

Enough to knock her out.

So the carbon monoxide
could do the rest.

Look at this.

Looks like this has been jury-rigged

to feed exhaust into

the air ventilation system.

Okay, then it's official.

We have ourselves a homicide.

I was working on the SUVs
when I saw her car pull in.

It was about 2:15.

I just can't believe she's gone.

Were you and April close?

She was my sister's best friend.

We all grew up about an
hour outside of here.

That's right, in...

Axtonville.

You're the chief mechanic here.

April brought me out here.

She got me the job.

(REX BARKING)

CHARLIE: What is it, buddy?

Are those April's coveralls?

She liked to poke her head

underneath a hood every once in a while.

Her dad was a trucker like mine.

She used to stay with us
whenever he was on long haul.

So the car had been tampered with.

The other mechanic said he
checked it this morning.

I initialed it too.

The car was in perfect condition.

It must've been tampered
with when she was out.

So how does April's car drive
back here with her dead inside?

I really don't know.

CHARLIE: So you are Mica
Arora and Sixie Chiu?

MICA: Where are you
with the investigation?

I'd like to stay posted on the updates.

Uh, well, with all due respect

- Ms. Arora...
- Mica.

We're launching in two weeks.

And our chief engineer was murdered.

I need answers.

So you two started up Zoomii with April?

Well, April was the vision.

She designed and built the rigs.

April's mother was losing her sight.

So April designed the tech

so that her mother's car can drive her.

That's our April.

SIXIE: I'm our chief programmer.

I turn all that vision into code.

How do these cars work exactly?

Um-

This

is a Zoomii rig.

It contains a bunch of laser sensors

that map out the physical space.

- MICA: Like eyes.
- The eyes scan the road

feeding data to a tablet
with Zoomii software,

which tells the car to
go faster, to brake.

To turn left or right.

So any car with this kind of a
rig can turn into a Zoomii car.

That's the plan.

We're in the test phase now.

So far, we have five cars

that have been successfully fitted

with the Zoomii rig.

CHARLIE: So how did April's
car return by itself?

SIXIE: She must've set
her route to Zoomii.

You can program it to any destination.

(ZOOMII RIG WHIRS)

How is this legal?

I mean, are these things
even allowed on the streets?

Well we're still waiting for
approval for the self-drive.

We just used that function
for the test fields.

So why was she using the self-drive?

April must have had a reason.

Where were the two of you earlier today?

MICA: I was at a launch
meeting in the morning.

And then I had a cost
report in the afternoon.

Sixie can vouch for me.

Yes.

And I was logged into
my terminal all day.

You can check.

Rex.

MICA: Detective Hudson.

Yeah?

April was more than
our business partner.

She was our friend.

Please find who did this.

CHARLIE: I'm sorry to be the one

to tell you this, Mr. Richards.

But we believe your
daughter was murdered.

(REX WHIMPERING)

Did April ever mention to you

anyone she was having problems with?

Co-workers, ex-partner?

Enemies?

To be honest, Detective,

my daughter and I weren't talking much.

What does that mean?

I'm a trucker.

My life is about driving.

Most of Axtonville makes
their living that way.

And she was building something
that will end your industry.

Don't get me wrong.

I'm proud of my girl.

She was always the
smartest one in the room.

I know she meant well.

And she did it for her Mom and all, but

back home, not everyone was so on board.

Can you think of anyone specifically

who was angry with Zoomii?

Axtonville is less than 30,000 people.

We like our cars the old-fashioned way,

driven by people.

You didn't answer my question.

I don't know what to
tell you, Detective.

But if you're looking for
suspects in Axtonville?

I'd say you've got 30,000.

(ZOOMING CAR)

Whether for accessibility

prevention of drunk driving

or simply a stress-free commute

Zoomii technology is driving us

into the future!

And none of this would exist

without the two brilliant
women standing next to me.

Mica Arora and Sixie Chiu.

JESSE: April was such a game-changer.

Why would anyone want to kill her?

Maybe this is why.

Six months ago, Zoomii
was scheduled to launch.

Then days before, they scrubbed it.

Did they give a reason?

Well, they claimed it was due
to a pivot in marketing.

But people in the industry,
they were skeptical.

Must've cost millions.

Yeah, and money equals motive.

Hey Jesse, did you find
anything in April's schedule?

Actually, yeah.

Yeah.

It wasn't that she missed
any of her appointments.

It's that they were all fake.

She wanted to keep her schedule secret.

Yeah, I also decrypted
April's Zoomii files

and got this. Look.

It's a map of April's final voyage.

Now, there's a blackout
between here and here.

Between 11:40 AM and 1:30 PM.

Well, that's the same blackout

as her phoney schedule.

What was she doing?

Well, she was last
seen at a gas station.

Right here.

I got CCTV of her there

alive and well at 11:45 AM.

What about this line right here?

That's where the
self-drive turns back on.

Right here.

At 1:30 PM.

DONOVAN: But did she turn it on?

Or did her killer?

No way to tell.

(BEEP BEEP)

Come on, Rex.

Let's check this out and
see what we can find.

We'll keep in touch.

Looks pretty deserted, pal.

Alright.

Let's see if you can
find something, buddy.

(REX SNIFFING)

Track it.

(REX GROANS)

Good effort, partner.

(REX WHIMPERS)

We just checked the location

where April's self-drive was reactivated

after the GPS blackout.

Completely secluded.

No CCTV.

DONOVAN: It's the perfect place

to rig the ventilation
system without being seen.

Yeah, or to make sure
April didn't wake up.

That's giving them an alibi.
Is that Charlie?

- Charlie, it's Jesse.
- Jesse?

Charlie, I checked the police logs.

And a witness described a
car going the wrong way

down a one-way street 1:00 PM.

It was also described

as having sort of weird
speakers on the roof.

That's the Zoomii rig.

That might be our killer
during the GPS blackout.

- You got an intersection?
- Yes.

Wilkes and Ashgrove.

CHARLIE: Perfect timing.

I'm turning onto it right now.

(REX BARKING)

(REX BARKING)

What'd you find?

(REX BARKING)

(REX BARKING)

Blood.

Nice job, partner.

We just found the weapon
that knocked out April.

SARAH: Hey.

DNA was a match to April's blood.

The hit came from behind

which means the killer
caught April by surprise.

That explains the lack
of defensive wounds.

Yeah. And there's no blood on her
fingers from checking the wound.

So it's unlikely she ever
regained consciousness.

So the killer moved April to a location

where they could rig the
exhaust without being seen

before putting on the auto-pilot.

They must've thrown the rock out
the window during the move.

Hey, I thought there were
no dogs allowed in here.

Yeah, well Rex can damage evidence.

The robot dog doesn't.

(ROBOT DOG WHIRS)

- Hi!
- (REX GROANS)

Besides, he's kind of cute.

I get why... ooh!

I get why April kept him around.

Really?

- (SARAH LAUGHS)
- (ROBOT DOG WHIRS)

Well, everybody needs a Rex.

No substitute for the real thing.

Right, pal?

Speaking of which,

I swabbed him and sent
it in for DNA testing.

We were able to pull some fingerprints.

But no hits from the database.

Well, I hope you're not getting
too attached to that thing.

Because you do realize that... (AHEM)

once you're done your tests,

that Jesse's going to
have to take him apart.

- Take him apart? No!
- (ROBOT DOG WHIRS)

He's a robot.

(ROBOT DOG BLEEPS)

Anyway.

I found this-

in the inner pocket of April's coat,

with bits of bright yellow paint on it.

Is this a bolt from a car?

Could be. I called the body shop.

And apparently, the
paint colour is rare.

Detonator Yellow.

Ooh, how explosive.

I didn't see any Zoomii cars
painted in that colour.

Yeah, me neither.

What did she find that
she needed to hide?

(ROBOT DOG WHIZZES AND BOINKS)

(REX GROANS)

Anything else?

Uh... Oh, yeah.

Yeah, the autopsy report

confirms that the cause of death
was carbon monoxide poisoning.

They ran tests.

And apparently it took 20
minutes for the car to fill up.

Less than five for her to suffocate.

So the car needed to be on the
road for at least 25 minutes

before returning to Zoomii.

(ROBOT DOG ZINGS)

April took the self-drive off at 11:40

and was last seen at the
gas station at 11:45.

Witnesses saw the car going the
wrong way down Ashgrove Road

at around 1:00 PM.

And you found the rock further back.

Yeah, the GPS system picks
back up at 1:30 at the water,

drives 45 minutes,

takes the long route to
Zoomii, gets there at 2:15.

So we need to check
all the Zoomii alibis

between 11:45 and 1:30 PM.

I might be able to help with that.

I unlocked April's phone.

Last message was sent at 12:05.

That's between the gas station

and when April's car
was seen on Ashgrove.

What does the text say?

You guys should have told me.

Meet me at The Dover.

Sixie, we need to talk.

The Dover?

CHARLIE: Let's bring Sixie in.

JESSE: I'll fact-check as we go.

CHARLIE: Where is The Dover?

It's... on the east side of Draymond.

Why?

CHARLIE: That's a pretty
shady part of town.

Not the type of bar I see you going.

SIXIE: And what kind
of bar would I go to?

Well, I'm guessing not a biker bar

30 minutes away from Zoomii.

Why did you lie to me
about where you were?

Technically, I said I was
logged into my terminal.

And I still was when I
got April's message

and went to meet her at The Dover.

But she never showed.

So I went back to Zoomii.

Why The Dover of all places?

I don't know.

Maybe it was a prank?

Stand me up in a sketchy bar.

Well the joke's on her,
because she's dead.

Sorry. Sorry.

I'm calling in regard to a woman

who might have been at
your bar the other day.

I'm sending you a picture now.

I just...

I get weird around authority.

Especially when it's just
an omniscient voice.

Ah!

Yeah, that's way more terrifying.

Okay, thank you.

I just spoke to the bartender.

She was definitely there
between 12:10 and 12:45.

- (TAP TAP TAP)
- And he didn't see anyone that...

Don't touch the glass.

He didn't see anyone
that looked like April.

Yeah.

So that part's the truth.

Yeah.

The text that April sent you that said:

You guys should have told me.

What should you have told her?

I don't know.

She said you guys.

Who's the other person? Mica?

I don't know.

April was hiding her schedule
from the rest of Zoomii

including your meeting.

Why?

I think she found out.

Found what out?

That Mica was considering
selling Zoomii.

And she called you? Why?

I think April was trying to
get me to side with her.

Because two against one is a majority.

She didn't want you to sell.

JESSE: We just went
through April's files.

Yeah.

Guess where the seed money
for Zoomii came from.

Mica's trust fund.

So she's got everything
riding on Zoomii.

Were you with Mica?

Were you going to sell?

We couldn't afford to push the launch.

We were bleeding cash.

Mica crunched the numbers.

We're on the verge of bankruptcy.

What am I supposed to do?

It's difficult being the deciding vote.

SIXIE: Every day it's
Sophie's Choice with them.

April and Mica wanted
very different things.

What do you mean?

April wanted to go big.

Zoomii was not just cars.

But for planes, boats, anything.

But while Mica wanted to
launch as fast as possible.

Mica won.

Five rigs for five different
models of cars on standby.

But if Mica won, why did
she delay the launch-

six months ago?

I don't know exactly.

She said it wasn't market friendly.

That must've created a lot of
conflict between her and April.

Mica had nothing to do
with April's murder,

if that's where you're going.

Are you sure about that? Hmm?

Because you hesitated,

when you corroborated her alibi.

Anything you want to tell me?

I told you.

I get nervous around authority.

Okay, well I hope you're
telling the truth.

Because if you're lying to me

you could be an accessory to murder.

Charlie.

I decrypted April's email.

Look.

She definitely wasn't paranoid.

She found out there was a
secret offer to buy Zoomii.

Well that's a pretty penny.

Yeah.

Yes, there was tension
between April and me.

That's normal.

It's not easy to run a
company with your friends.

Not everyone agrees.

So someone has to make
the tough decisions.

Why didn't you tell
April about the offer?

It was a backup plan.

No need to worry her
if it's not necessary.

Sixie said you pushed the launch.

Launching a new product is always risky.

You do one thing wrong,
you lose everything.

You've got to protect your investment.

You know what I think?

You wanted out.

There was an offer on the table.

You knew April would never sell.

You don't know what
you're talking about.

And if the company looked like
it was going to go bankrupt

you'd be able to twist Sixie's arm.

Which is why you pushed the launch.

The tech wasn't ready.

If we launched too soon,
people would get hurt.

- April got hurt.
- I loved April.

And the best way to honour her memory

is to make sure that the dream
we built together survives.

Now if you'll excuse me,

I have to prep for a new launch.

CHARLIE: Sixie could've
knocked April out.

But she was at the bar when
April's car was being moved.

Yeah, Mica's car was at Zoomii all day.

But no one saw her
between 12:45 and 1:15.

Any update on forensics?

There was no DNA on Terabyte
other than April's.

So I'm just walking him up to Jesse.

Terabyte?

You name him?

Well, he looks like a Terabyte.

And he's grown on me. Look.

He's following me around everywhere.

(TERABYTE BUZZES)

(REX BARKS)

Wait a second.

He's following you?

If Terabyte's been following you around

he has a navigation system.

Oh wow.

Maybe even a GPS.

(TERABYTE WHIRS)

So, I looked into
Terabyte's programming.

Turns out that it is running
the same program as Zoomii.

Which means

it built a map of everywhere it went

the day that April was murdered.

SARAH: Um, it's a he. Not an it.

Right.

- Anywho.
- (TERABYTE YAPS)

- That's right.
- Right?

Check this out.

Okay.

Okay.

I had to analyze the data

to figure out what I
was even looking at.

But...

Wait for it.

Wait for it.

Right there.

It's a map of the city.

It looks like Terabyte was parked here.

Yeah, that's Creekwood Avenue
before it turns into Winter.

Good job Terabyte.

- Good job.
- (TERABYTE BUZZES)

- (REX BARKS)
- Yeah.

I know how you feel.

I did all the work.

(REX SNIFFING)

(REX BARKING)

(REX BARKS)

Perfect fit.

We just found where
April was knocked out.

(REX BARKS)

Good job, buddy.

Hey.

Good find.

Yeah, thank Rex.

Okay, so this blood pattern
here is in passive drops.

It's consistent with a head injury.

Here's a closer look.

Well, this is where Terabyte's GPS

showed that April's car was parked.

So she was probably hit here
and then shoved into her car.

Yeah, and there's something else.

We also found faded skid
patterns on the road.

- Yeah?
- They look old.

But from what we've figured out-

there are two sets of braking marks.

And here, look.

Paint. Detonator Yellow.
Where is this?

Number three.

That's just like the bolt
we found in April's shirt.

That's not all.

There's also a different
patch of blood over there.

It's darker, oxidized.

It looks like it's a few months old.

So here we have old blood, skid marks.

What was April doing

at the site of an old car accident?

With the bolt in her pocket?

It looks like she was investigating it.

(REX BARKING)

(REX BARKING)

What have you got, pal?

JESSE: Hey, Charlie!

Hey Jesse.

I need you to look into all
accident reports on Creekwood-

just east of where it turns into Winter.

Sarah's on her way back with forensics.

She is? Um-how soon?

Look for anything with yellow paint.

Any injuries.

Someone was hurt here.

And it has something to
do with April's murder.

(TERABYTE WHIRRING AND CHIRPING)

Charlie?

And I think I know who can tell us.

I'm not supposed to talk to you
until my lawyer gets here.

Yeah. I get that.

But I wanted your lawyer to know

that you have an alibi for
the time of the murder.

The only problem is-

that alibi puts you in
the exact time and place

for knocking out April.

What are you talking about?

April was knocked out by her
car between 12:05 and 12:45.

Which means that you
could've knocked her out.

And you could have ran to The Dover

to establish your alibi while
someone else moved her

rigged the car to kill her,
and put it into self-drive.

I wasn't establishing an alibi.

I was being stood up.

We found this in April's pocket.

Is that a bolt from a Zoomii car?

Look at it.

Did April find out that
you and Mica were trying

to sabotage the launch?

Maybe even the cars?

I don't know anything about this.

We didn't sabotage the launch.

The cars do work.

Then why didn't you launch?

Because.

Because why?

I'm not supposed to talk to you.

Sixie.

Sixie wouldn't talk.

I'm hoping you will.

Sixie is my boss.

(REX SNIFFING)

But if she killed April, then
you could be an accessory.

Where were you again,
between 11:45 and 1:00?

I told you. I was here

testing the cars.

You can check out the reports yourself.

That's right, you
did mention that.

Has there ever been an
accident in a Zoomii car?

Sure.

But only on the test field.

We don't send the cars out

unless they're road-ready.

So there's never been a
Zoomii accident on the road?

Absolutely not.

Mm-hmm.

Do me a favour.

Take a look at that bolt again.

Is that from a Zoomii car?

It's pretty standard issue.

Where'd you get it?

On a blind turn on Creekwood.

Near Winter.

It's where April was knocked out.

It's not ours.

You don't use any standard issue bolts?

We don't have anything in that colour.

Huh.

Whoah.

A lot of coffee.

A lot of hours.

It's launch time.

Mica doesn't stop for anything.

Not even a police investigation.

Yeah, she sure likes to
get things done, huh?

At any cost.

(PHONE BUZZING)

Excuse me.

Rex.

Hey, Jesse. What's up?

(TERABYTE BUZZING)

Hey, Charlie.

I found a collision report.

It was at Creekwood, on the blind corner

just before it turns into Winter.

It was about six months ago.

Right around the time Zoomii was
originally going to launch.

And let me guess. Zoomii
was part of the accident.

No, actually.

It was a hit and run victim.

The victim's name was

one second..

Casey James.

Bring him in.

Alright.

(TERABYTE FRYING)

Oh!

Ah! Ah!

Are you Casey James?

Yeah.

Thanks for coming in. We
really appreciate it.

No problem.

Gives me a chance to
show off my new wheels.

(REX BARKS)

Get you a coffee?

Decaf, if you've got it.

Yeah.

Listen.

What can you tell me about
the night that you got hit?

I'd just finished the night shift

heading home on my bike.

I was driving down
Creekwood, past Winter

when a car took a corner too wide.

And I got sideswiped.

You never saw who hit you?

I was knocked out.

Next thing I knew, I woke up
and couldn't feel my legs.

Well, it's a good thing
that your phone worked.

Otherwise, you wouldn't be
here talking to me right now.

Well, my bike wasn't so lucky.

Total write-off.

Do me a favour.

You ever see this before?

We found it at the accident site.

Could be part of my bike.

Colour's right.

- Yeah?
- 1100. Classic.

Detonator Yellow fender.

Great bike.

You're a rider?

Well, I mean, it's been a little while.

But I've got a BSA 650 Lightning.

Oh, nice.

Everyone crashes.

Some get back on.

Some don't.

Some can't.

Well, this must be pretty tough on you.

Yeah, but you find
things worth living for.

Check this out.

A 1977 Norton Commando, mint condition.

Going to mod it up so I can
ride it with the chair.

CHARLIE: He confirmed the bolt
we found in April's pocket

came from his old bike.

But he's already looking
to buy a new one.

Casey's settlement came in at $60,000

He was already in debt.

He had just lost his job.

Yeah, and it didn't seem like
he was hurting for cash.

That wheelchair must
have been $20,000 alone.

Jesse checked Casey's alibi.

He was in physio from 11:00 to 1:00.

That's the time that April was attacked.

SARAH: Also

it would be hard for him
to pull off this murder.

He wouldn't have been able to
drive April's car manually.

DONOVAN: He could've been
working with an accomplice.

CHARLIE: He did have the motive, though.

He was paralyzed in the accident.

But why would April have a bolt
from his bike in her pocket?

Maybe she found out that her partners

were trying to cover up a hit and run.

Hey, Jesse. Do me a favour.

Pull up the 911 call from that night.

I want to see if we've
overlooked anything.

- Okay.
- Hey, hey where's...

Where's Terabyte?

Oh!

How do you charge him?

With a charger.

It's a solar charger. It's panels.

Takes about a week.

You should ask me later.

- (REX GROWLS)

Be cool, be cool, be cool.

CASEY: I can't feel my legs!

Oh man, I'm bleeding!

911 OPERATOR: We're sending

the blind corner on Winter.

No no! There's no one here!

They just took off!

Please help me!

(REX BARKING)

I mean, it sounds like
Casey's story checks out.

(REX BARKING)

Wait a second. Rex is
picking up on something.

Play that again. - Yeah.

CASEY: They just took off!

Please help me!

- (BUZZ)
- (REX BARKS)

- 911 OPERATOR: Someone's on the way.
- Jesse, can you clean that up?

See if there's anything on
there that we can't hear

- that Rex can.
- Okay.

Isolating the file.

Bringing it up.

Here we go.

CASEY: No no! There's no one here!

They just took off! Please!

- FEMALE COMPUTER VOICE: Error.
- CASEY: Help me!

FEMALE COMPUTER VOICE: Please restart.

- System error.
- (REX BARKS)

That's a Zoomii.

This isn't a hit and run.

This is a witch hunt.

First you go after Sixie.
Now you're coming after me?

A Zoomii car nearly killed someone.

And you're covering it up.

Who hit Casey James?

You should be looking for
April's real killers.

Killers. That's interesting
that you would say that.

Maybe it was more than one
person who killed April.

Where were you between 12:45 and 1:15?

I was here. I said that.

No, your car was here.

Nobody saw you.

I am days away from launching something

we've been working on for years.

Why would I kill my engineer now?

DONOVAN: Shares.

You were the first investor.

If April died, you'd have
more shares than Sixie.

We're done here.

And you'll be hearing from my lawyer.

Actually, we can talk
to your lawyer together

down at the station.

Way to make an entrance.

Yeah, well I have that effect.

Mmm.

It always goes back to the money, huh?

Mmm.

Still something odd about that, though.

If Zoomii was broke

why were they still making
a $10,000 a month donation

to an accessibility charity?

Yeah, that's true.

I mean, companies in Zoomii's situation-

they would normally cut back.

You think they're covering for a
payout or an embezzlement maybe?

For the hit and run.

(REX BARKING)

What is it, pal?

(REX BARKING)

Yellow paint?

Detonator Yellow.

And we also found some blood.

Blood?

Yeah, you know what
that means, don't you?

It means that you lied
to me about a Zoomii car

never being in a hit and run.

The Zoomii founders are
going to be charged.

You need to decide

if you want to be an
accomplice or a witness.

It wasn't them.

Who was it?

They were covering.

For me.

It was just before the launch.

I had been working 48 hour shifts.

Mica was pushing us beyond
the breaking point.

I was so tired.

Sixie took pity on me and
told me to take a Zoomii.

The blue Zoomii.

Everything was fine.

But then the car wouldn't
slow down at the curve.

I tried to brake.

But it just went faster.

I panicked.

And I took the curve too wide.

And I smashed into a bike

that was coming from the
opposite direction.

I think about it every night.

So you called Sixie to
tell her about the car.

Sixie called Mica, to
have you repair it.

And then she paid off Casey.

I think so, yeah.

Why didn't you call April?

We grew up together.

How could I tell her that
I ruined her dreams?

We did the only thing we could.

We pushed the launch.

It was the responsible thing to do.

But I swear the cars were safe.

Or I would have never
put it on the road.

Then why did it hit Casey?

I don't know.

And you and Mica kept it from April.

You don't understand.

April felt things deeper than most.

She would have ratted on you.

She would have been
distracted from the launch.

So a man was paralysed, nearly died.

And you wanted her to focus on cars?

How much did it cost to
keep Casey's mouth shut?

$10,000 a month.

Mmmm.

And Mica made it look like
a charitable donation.

We were just trying to make
the world a safer place.

(REX WHIMPERS)

If we came forward,
Zoomii would be over.

And all of this would
have been for nothing.

But April was on to you.

The bolt in her pocket

came from Casey's motor bike.

She was investigating the site.

She texted you.

You guys should've told me.

I helped cover up an accident. Fine.

But I didn't kill April!

I swear.

Well, somebody did kill April

to keep her from exposing the cover-up.

And somebody stood to inherit her shares

if she died before the company was sold.

Somebody masterminded
the whole cover-up.

How well do you really know Mica?

(REX WHIMPERS)

We were all best friends.

We loved each other.

DONOVAN: What I still don't get

is that if Casey was hit by Zoomii-

- he could've sued for millions.
- Yeah.

Why settle for a mere 10 grand a month?

I think I have an idea.

I went through Casey's
employment records

and I found that he
had no known employer

the night of the hit and run.

He wasn't working the late shift.

So I did a little digging, and...

- Ow.
- Hold on.

He had two prior DUIs.

He could've been drinking that night.

Yeah, that was-

That was my thought, exactly.

So I went through his social media.

I didn't find anything from that night.

But I found some pre-accident photos.

(REX BARKS)

Wait.

Wait, stop there.

DONOVAN: the Dover!

That is not a coincidence.

CHARLIE: I know this is traumatic.

But I need you to go through
the accident one more time.

So, you said that your Zoomii
car took the corner too fast.

Then you plowed right into a
motorcycle going the other way.

I believe you, Donna.

My partner, not so much.

(REX BARKING)

When were at the scene-

Rex picked up on something
that we didn't.

And it wasn't until-

we found out that Casey was
a regular at The Dover

and went back

that we realized that Rex
had it right all along.

(REX BARKS)

It hadn't been

an accident between a Zoomii
car and Casey's bike.

Charlie!

It was between Casey and
an electrical pole.

We found his accident.

And Casey had been drinking.

He was facing his third DUI.

So you faked an accident
to make them look guilty.

Why would I do that?

Is that semi-formal or prom?

Casey's an ex.

He's a driver, like my dad and April's.

He had just moved to town.

He agreed to meet me at the Dover.

- Where you had a couple of drinks.
- He had just lost his job.

The trucking company was downsizing

because they introduced
self-driving cars.

I felt like a traitor.

So you had a few more drinks.

Then it was last call.

I wanted to take a spin on his bike.

Just like old times.

It was late.

We weren't going to go far.

He'd only had a few.

But he took a sharp turn,
and lost his footing.

I thought we were okay.

But I was wrong.

Casey wasn't.

And his insurance didn't allow him

to have anything in his system.

So I came up with a plan.

Asked him to hold off calling 911.

Which gave you time
to cover one accident

- with another.
- I was barely gone 15 minutes.

You went back to The Dover-

where your Zoomii car was parked.

While I was gone and he was
waiting, something happened.

His vertebrae had been fractured

damaging the spinal cord,
causing paralysis.

He had lost all
feeling in his legs.

But now, there was no way out.

I moved Casey's bike to
another part of the road.

I smashed into it with my Zoomii.

And then carried Casey
to the accident scene

and smeared his blood all over the car.

And then you called Sixie.

Sixie!

I made a-

I made a big mistake.

And Sixie told you that
Mica would handle everything.

And she did, didn't she?

She offered Casey $10,000 a month

for him to report the
accident as a hit and run

and keep Zoomii's name out of it.

Taking care of your ex for
the rest of his life.

And erasing some of your guilt.

Some of your guilt.

I never meant for him to be paralyzed.

It was all my fault. I...

Can't you understand?

I understand the guilt.

I don't understand why

you extorted money from your employers.

They deserve to pay.

They're destroying the industry

that fuels my home town.

You didn't do this for Axtonville.

You did this for you and Casey.

This is about money-

plain and simple.

And you knew the money tap would stop

if anyone found out the truth.

April knew about your
connection to Casey.

And when she saw that he was the victim-

she started to connect the dots.

She went into the records.

She found the accident site.

And when she found evidence

she texted Sixie

because she didn't trust you.

And you didn't trust her.

Yeah, we checked on your alibi.

You were indeed testing
self-driving cars.

But the funny thing about
automation is that

you can program them to test themselves

when you're not even there.

I had to stop April.

It would have destroyed Casey.

Yeah. He would have had
to give the money back.

He'd be destitute.

And Zoomii would've kept going

destroying Axtonville and
every other town like it.

I'm not on the wrong side of this.

Don't you get that?

I get that change is hard.

But the ironic thing about
this is that if you and Casey

had just gotten in a Zoomii car

instead of that motorcycle-

none of this would have happened.

Casey wouldn't be injured.

April wouldn't be dead.

And you wouldn't be going to jail.

As we enterto a next chapter,

we only wish our dearest
friend and co-founder

April Richards was here to see it.

Her legacy lives on in Zoomii.

And we are thrilled to announce
that Zoomii is expanding.

In honour of my daughter, April

Zoomii will be opening their new plant

in her home town of Axtonville.

From all of us here at Zoomii

thank you for an incredible launch.

(ZOOMING CAR)

See? Told you they had integrity.

They obstructed an investigation, Jesse.

Which they owned up to
and apologized for.

What about paying someone
off using a phoney charity?

Not anymore.

No, the charity that Zoomii
used to pay off Casey

is totally legit now.

Yeah, all the money is
going towards buying

self-driving wheelchairs for
victims of car accidents.

No wonder the judge agreed
to suspend the sentence.

CHARLIE: I'm impressed. I mean-

this is exactly what
April would have wanted.

Bringing Axtonville into the future.

Speaking of which

Jesse?

Where's Terabyte?

That's a good question.

SARAH: Yeah.

(TERABYTE WHIRS AND CHIRPS)

(SARAH LAUGHS)

There he is!

(TERABYTE WHIRS AND BLIPS)

(REX GROANS)

JESSE: Back in tip top shape.

What do you mean back?

I'm sorry, what?

(TERABYTE BLIPS AND WHISTLES)

We're all going to be
replaced by robots.

CHARLIE: Well, don't worry, buddy.

You are not going to be
replaced by a robot.

(REX GROANS)

(TERABYTE BEEPS)

(REX YELPS)

(LAUGHTER)

Yeah.

Didn't think so.

(REX BARKS)

(TERABYTE CHIRRUPS)
