How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom (2021–2022): Season 2, Episode 7 - Aping the Frown of Beauty - full transcript

With Van, the capital of Amidonia, returned to Julius, so too returns the oppressive rule of the government. The people's dissatisfaction increases, until finally they end up revolting. Julius's sister, Roroa, then comes before So...

Our story returns to the time

when Kazuya Souma was summoned.

Until then, the royal capital Parnam
had developed in a sprawling fashion,

with the roads intertwined
in a complex fashion.

Souma developed trunk roads to

improve the logistical flow of the city.

He also organized the sewage
and water systems,

and worked to beautify the town.

Also, from the perspective of
public sanitation, he

built large sedimentation basements

to facilitate the treatment of sewage.

When excavating the site, they

uncovered the bones of gargoyles, giants

and various types of demons.

This included the bones of a dragon.

But these bones, which had been ordered
to be sent to a research academy,

suddenly disappeared.

So, you were the one behind that, Genia?

I am so sorry, Your Majesty.

But it happened so long ago.

We had more or less forgotten about it.

Why bring it up now?

I'm the reason we had to mention it now.

I was working through my papers

and I found this note.

"Ludwin,

I'm going to take the dragon bones.
Sort out the procedures for me.

Genia."

You just found that now?

You took your time, Lu.

You stole dragon bones and just left
a short note. I don't want to hear it.

I didn't steal them.

That's why I left the note.

Leave your couple's quarrel until later.

We are not a couple.

So, you've given up
on the idea of marrying me?

That's not it.
I was just saying we are not a couple yet.

So, what were you going to do
with the dragon bones?

I thought you would never ask.

‪ORIGINAL STORY BY DOJYOMARU

This little one's name is Mechadra.

She is an amalgam of all the parts

I found lying around, including things

like demon components and things
taken from dungeons and the like,

all of which I stuck
on the dragon skeleton.

Demon components
and mysterious items from dungeons.

I have a bad feeling about this.

It's not going to suddenly go wild is it?

How can it go wild? It's not

even able to move.

Really?

Well, obviously.

It doesn't possess the critical system
to instruct its key components to move.

Then why did you bother making it?

As part of a research effort to

analyze the working of joints and bones.

Look how smoothly it moves.

It moves without much effort at all.

It's really amazing.

Amazing, but…

G… Genia,

what have you gone and made now?

If the Star Dragon Mountain Range

find out, there could be
an international incident.

Really?

Remind me to send an apology
to Star Dragon Mountain Range.

Right.

Depending on the situation, we

may need to return or rebury the bones.

What happened there? Did you do something?

Souma, you used
the living poltergeist didn't you?

Yes, I was just a bit curious.

I knew my calculations were correct.

Look how smoothly

it runs, Lu?

That's not the issue here.

And you, Your Majesty,

moving a dragon around
willy-nilly like that could be

perceived as a threat by other countries.

Could this be used for battle purposes?

Have you armed the Mechadra?

Not even I am reckless enough to

arm a mechanical dragon made
up of bones and demon parts.

Then we have no use for it.

So, even though it would be
feared by other countries,

it wouldn't be any use to us anyway.

That's the worst possible situation.

For now, let's treat the Mechadra
as a top secret matter of state.

At least until the Star Dragon
Mountain Range get to hear of it.

Just consider yourself lucky
you haven't been thrown in jail.

Genia Maxwell, we are going to

build you a national research lab.

I will give you free rein to decide
the theme of your research.

Really?

However,

you have to stump up 10%
of the research fees yourselves.

10%?

I've been Genia's patron up until now, but

I would be grateful if the Kingdom
could cover the whole amount.

If I funded everything, Genia could just

research all kinds of things.

There is a hole in the Poncho Bridge.

That was really convenient for
when I went shopping.

Things have been tough ever

since Prince Julius returned.

The Gemstone Broadcasts have
been banned, and

food supplies have been rationed too.

It is not enough to amply feed
the children.

Rumor has it that even these

paltry rations may be decreased.

I wish his Highness Souma would
invade us again.

There is a rise in dissatisfaction
among the commoners?

I've just moved away from the lax culture
and restored it to what it used to be.

Just one hole in the levy is enough
to bring it down.

If we go easy, the people will
just get stronger.

They should blame Elfrieden for demanding
so much compensation.

Why would they blame our state?

What is it?

You are Huddles, Lord of Gallua.

Your Majesty, I beseech you.

-There has been an uprising.
-An uprising?

As you know, Gallua is
on the outskirts of the principality.

Food has been scarce, and

people are starting to starve.

There has been an explosion
of resentment, Sire.

If I remember rightly Lord Huddles,

you said you couldn't trust a young Prince

and decided to reinforce
your troops yourself, no?

Sleep in the bed you have made.

But, your honor,

if this goes unchecked,
it may spread across the principality.

Whereas if you nip it in the bud now…

I will send the troops to

take down the rebellion in Gallua.

Play with us, Your Majesty.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Your Highness,

it's nice of you to play with them, but

aren't you busy with other things?

Don't worry.

I am not so rushed at the moment.

In that case,

you can play to your heart's content.

Yay!

Stop that.

What a sight that is!

You can talk, Carla.

That really doesn't suit you, you know.

Don't say that.

I realize it without you saying anything.

Your skirt's a bit short too.

Don't look at my legs.

The Head Chambermaid made me wear it.

I see. It is to Serina's taste.

Have you finished your training yet?

Training?

Was it something I said?

A whip.

She beats me with a whip.

A whip?

Yes,

and I think the whip has some
magic powers.

It doesn't leave marks on
your body, but hurts like hell

You were whipped with love.
Love must be accepted.

Carla is usually so strong.
This must be one tough cookie.

It's quite frightening.

-Carla.
-Yes?

I thought I told you to make up
His Majesty's bed in his room.

I couldn't possibly change
the sheets of a man I barely know.

-It's not possible.
-What do you mean?

If you are going to be
a real chambermaid, then

sometime the King and his princess will…

come here, and…

-Shall we play over there?
-I have to do the bed with a poker face.

-Yes
-Think how that makes me feel.

I see.

Did they quash the uprising?

Yes.

From what we hear,

they did so in a rather brutal fashion.

Doing so is almost certainly a mistake.

That will just cause further
unrest amongst the people.

Hakuya, what did the emissary
from Van have to say?

As representative of the people
of Van, he said this:

"We, the people of Van,

profess our allegiance to
the Kingdom of Elfrieden

and request military reinforcements."

Souma, did you anticipate this would
happen?

I suspected it could happen, but

I have no idea what the people of
Van really want.

It's not my decision.

But as the request for assistance
we received is a formal one,

the Kingdom will accept
the request and send reinforcements.

Damn!

How could the people of Van,

the place I was born and raised,

turn against me like this.

Blindly following
the wagging tail of Souma.

I bring news.

Lord Cutlass has betrayed

the Amidonian Royal Family.

He is rebelling against you.

What?

Lord Shadler, too, has been harboring
those fleeing Gallua,

and refuses to return them to us.

He is defying you too.

The nobles loyal to Rorora are

coming together to demand you step down.

Lord Shadler as well?

The people are rebelling…

The commoners are revolting
and moving on Gallua.

What… is happening?

I see.

So Julius's army have disbanded.

When rebellion shoots up from
so many sources at the same time,

it is impossible to suppress.

It seems Julius has taken a small army and

fled to the protection of the Empire.

Things are basically going as we expected.

Are things going too well?

I didn't expect
there would be so many separate rebellions

happening at the same time.

Is this the "separate force"
you talked of at play?

Amidonia, after being abandoned by Julius,

became a leaderless state.

Surrounding nations fought
to fill the power vacuum.

The Orthodox Papal State
of Lunaria to the north

of the Principality of Amidonia,

and the Republic of Turgis
to the south, made their moves.

The Zem mercenary state in the west

maintained its stance of neutrality,

and showed no signs it would attack,

but dispatched troops to both nations.

The Orthodox Papal State of Lunaria

houses the Lunarian Orthodox Church,

which worships the moon Goddess, Lunaria.

In this nation, the Pope is head
of both church and state.

In response to the rebellion
in the Principality of Amidonia,

it sent forces along the border of
Amidonia to protect

its followers in the region.

On the other hand,

the Republic of Turgis was
a freezing nation,

and particularly the southern
peninsula was surrounded by

ice and snow most of the year.

The leaders had settled on
the territory without snow as their

main location. The borders of the
Principality were in a state of disarray

and seemed to invite remorseless attack.

Fortunately, the forces of Turgis

met strong resistance by
the fighting of aged General Herman,

who used his century's worth of
experience in battle.

He was Lord of Nelva,

a fortified city
in the south of the country.

But how long could they hold on?

The Principality of Amidonia
had lost its leader, and

was still highly vulnerable to attack.

They are asking our Kingdom
to annex the whole of Amidonia?

Yes.

This is a request
by General Herman Noyman.

He has made the official request
in concert with the

former Finance Minister, Gatsby Colbert.

Rather than being divided and conquered

it makes sense for them to
throw their allegiance behind the Kingdom.

If General Herman, who pushed
Turgis back and Minister

Colbert support annexation,

I think everyone will get on board.

Hakuya,
is this the separate force at work?

It's hard to say.

So, what are we going to do then?

I'm in two minds.

I think there are more disadvantages
than advantages in annexation.

Taking the advantages first,
there is population growth.

It would be very useful for us
in the long term.

Amidonia is also rich
in natural resources.

It would allow us to guarantee
a steady supply.

Now, for the disadvantages.
The first is the food shortage crisis.

I thought things were going better in Van.

Van, though the capital, is just one city.

If we expand this to Amidonia as a whole,

we would need to solve it
soon after fixing our own food issues.

It's a serious concern.

Until several days ago, it was a hostile
nation and may be difficult to govern.

Until now, the Union of Eastern Nations,

the Principality of Amidonia

and part of the Turgis Republic
were our only borders.

With this, though, we would be
forced to share boundaries with

Zem and the Orthodox Papal
State of Lunaria.

The more countries we are
neighbors with, the more

complex diplomatic relations become.

What is more,
annexing Amidonia would be the nail in

the coffin of us ever receiving
war reparations from them.

So you plan to reject the annexation plan?

It doesn't seem as though
rejection is an option for us.

If we refuse, our initial move
to integrate Van into our Kingdom

will lose all of its justification.

As we agreed to
the annexation of Van, it is

hard for us to exclude
the rest of the region.

If the people of the City of Van
forsake other areas of the country,

they will become disenchanted
with the kingdom.

We might get overrun with refugees
anyway, it we let

the Orthodox Papal State of Lunaria

and Republic of Turgis invade at will.

True. If that is the case,
annexation is the better option.

Although it will be hard
assimilating them in the beginning,

the benefits will bear fruit later on.

Okay. Let's do it.

Amidonia will be officially allowed
into the Kingdom.

Spread the word to the other nations.

Very well.

The navy belonging to Excel

will be deployed along the border
with the Republic of Turgis.

They will act on my command.

With this, there was a formal annexation

of the territories in Amidonia
peacefully into the Kingdom of Elfrieden.

Honorable Gatsby Colbert.

Sire.

Gatsby Colbert,

you did well to assemble
the people of Amidonia.

Without your efforts,
unrest would surely have broken out.

And the Amidonian people
would have suffered badly.

I am humbled by your words, Sire.

Actually, there is something
that I have for you.

These are the financial reports

for the Principality of Amidonia,
as well as the documentation of rights.

Fearing their loss during the war,

the documents were stored hidden away.

Is that right?

Julius did not have access
to those documents?

I almost feel sorry for him.

This is a wonderful gift.
It will be much easier to govern.

However, keep them until you hear
what I have to say to you.

Former Financial Minister
of Amidonia Colbert, are you

willing to give me your service?

Yes, of course.

You are duly appointed
as the Minister of Finance for the

Kingdom of Elfrieden,
and in charge of all Kingdom finances.

Your Majesty! Am I not just in charge
of Amidonia's finances?

No, you are in charge of
the Kingdom of Elfrieden.

But…

But I am from Amidonia.

That doesn't worry me.

I like to use good people,
whoever they are.

That is the way we do things in Elfrieden.

Your Majesty.

Although Amidonia is not prosperous,

a lot was taken for military spending.

Despite that fact,

it did not go bankrupt,
and that is thanks to your great skill,

which deserves commendation.

Finance Minister of Elfrieden Kingdom,
Colbert,

thank you for these documents.
Please use them in your work.

Take them with you and use
them to manage the regions of Amidonia.

Yes, Sire! I accept your generous offer.

Herman Noyman.

You did excellent work snuffing out
the invasion of the Republic of Turgis.

Without your sterling endeavors,

our relief efforts would have
been in vain.

We would have been embroiled in chaos.

A warrior defends his people.
Even if there is no ruler.

I only did my job.

I also have a gift for you, Sire!

Once given, it should not be returned.

There is a thriving wool industry
in the south of Amidonia.

You can obtain excellent wool.

These are made from such wool.
I would like to offer you this as a gift.

Can I take a closer look?

Please do.

This is familiar.

It's like a carpet.

A carpet?

Carpet as a gift?

Somehow, this situation seems familiar.

Herman.

What is it?

Is there a woman hidden in this carpet?

What, really?

I wanted it to be a surprise.

That's no fun. Here I am.

Ready or not.

I am Rorora!

How did you know?

I was sure you wouldn't find me out.

It's just…

In the world I am from
a woman did a similar thing.

So it wasn't my idea? Oh no! How lame.

In her case, though, she was naked.

What kind of woman was that?
Some kind of deviant?

Well, not really,

her prominent nose was made her one of the
most beautiful women in history.

Her nose changed history?

By nose do you mean breasts?

Anyway, can I call you Rorora?
I guess you are

Julius's little sister.

Yes, that's right.

I am smart as well as beautiful

and I am here to announce I am

the prettiest girl in Amidonia.

And yes, please call me Rorora.

And I am the daughter of the previous
Crown Prince Gaius the 8th of Amidonia.

So, I am Rorora Amidonia.

And what brings you here, Princess Rorora?

Well, to marry you of course.

Well, obviously. What?!
