Hawaii Five-O (1968–1980): Season 9, Episode 18 - To Die in Paradise - full transcript

Thugs kidnap a singer and spirit her off in a boat - but then the boat is caught in a violent storm and driven northwestward, where it wrecks on the north coast of Kauai. The coastline there is known as the Na Pali Cliff region and is so rugged that there are no roads and only a few trails. Everybody survives the wreck, but the kidnappers realize (from their radio) that the boat has been reported missing and is presumed destroyed -- and the kidnappers and the victim with it. To avoid losing out on the half-million-dollar ransom, the kidnappers engage the help of a nature lover who can lead them to a general store he frequents (they then kill him when he finds out too much), and make a call to Honolulu to tell the singer's manager how to leave off the ransom money. McGarrett sends Danno to the cliffs area (Danno used to surf there) to find the paths the kidnappers are using, and himself goes to Kauai and the end of the road to help drop off the ransom.

LORD: This is Jack Lord
inviting you to be with us next

for "To Die in Paradise."

We got your recording star, Bobbie
Joe, the southern belle, Mr. Ducco.

Now, what you're gonna do is bring
a half a million in cash to Honolulu.

Any problem?

Yes, she's no pussycat.
You gotta watch her.

Forty-knot winds and 8-foot swells,
they'd have done well to make Kauai.

You used to surf
over there, didn't you?

Yeah, a great place
to camp and hide.

- Plenty of isolation.
- And very small police force.

It seems that we
are lost at sea.

Yeah, we don't have to
worry about the cops now,

get her to the phone
and arrange the pickup.

They're irrational
and unpredictable.

The most dangerous kind of kidnapper.
I want you to know that, Mr. Ducco.

Hey, cop, one more shot from
you, I'm gonna blow her away.

How do you know
that you can find her?

McGARRETT: We don't, but there's
hope if you tell us what's going on.

Every move they
make, every contact.

- Hold it.
- Hey!

Now I got you, pig.

LORD: Next, "To
Die in Paradise."

Be here, aloha.

[GLASS BREAKS]

[TIRES SQUEAL]

We got your recording star.

DENNIS [OVER PHONE]:
What you're gonna do

is bring half a
million to Honolulu.

They're irrational and unpredictable,
the most dangerous kind of kidnapper.

I want you to know
that, Mr. Ducco.

Hey, cop, one more shot from
you, I'm gonna blow her away.

- How do you know you can
find her? McGARRETT: We don't.

But there's hope if you
tell us what's going on.

- Every move they make, every contact.
- Hold it.

Hey! Now I got you, pig.

[ENGINE STARTS]

[CAR DOOR OPENS THEN CLOSES]

- Bobbie Jo, would you sign this?
- Sure.

- Here you go. GIRL: Thank you.

- Airport?
- Right.

Thank you.

Are we talking about
the same airport?

Honolulu International?

Yeah, they're repairing
the regular route.

It's all torn up.

You're headed in
the opposite direction.

Yeah, I took the wrong
turn, this will get us there.

Just pull over here. I
can't waste any more time.

I know where we are.

Well, I don't, and I want out.

I'll pay you, don't worry.

[TIRES SQUEAL]

- Come on, we're changing cars.
- Is this some kind of kidnapping?

You're very
perceptive. Now move.

If it is, you're gonna
draw insufficient funds.

- I loaned all my money to friends.
- Just get your body in that wagon.

You can bargain
all you want in there.

- Come on.
- Okay.

[BOBBIE GRUNTS]

[BOBBIE SCREAMS]

[CRYING]

Okay, Bobbie.

You don't wanna be a hard case,
because my partner's got no manners.

You understand that?

Look, I do have some
money in the bank.

You can have all of it.
Just let me go. Please?

Here's a cassette recorder.

You're gonna do
a request number.

DENNIS: Come on, move.

Any problems?

Eh, she's no pussycat.
You gotta watch her.

I told you you should've
let me pick her up.

I have a way with
tough young ladies.

- Yeah.
- There you go.

I'll make the phone call.

QUINCY: Well, welcome aboard.

DUCCO: Right.

I'm telling you, that
song is a smash.

Okay, I'll see you at
the studio on Tuesday.

Okay.

[BUZZES]

SECRETARY [OVER
PHONE]: Mr. Ducco?

The operator has been
holding an urgent call

from Bobbie Jo Bell in Hawaii.

Hey, Bobbie.

Hey, listen, honey, I
have a song for you.

You're gonna love it.

DENNIS [OVER PHONE]: Ducco?
- Who's this?

We got your recording star, Bobbie
Jo, "the Southern Belle," Mr. Ducco.

DENNIS: Now,
what you're gonna do

is bring half a million
in cash to Honolulu.

That is, if you wanna
see her alive again.

Sure, sure, whatever
you say, but, uh...

Hey, how do I know
that you're on the level?

BOBBIE [ON TAPE]:
Stanley, it's no joke.

BOBBIE: They've got me, and
they're very serious about this.

OPERATOR [OVER PHONE]:
Your three minutes are up.

Please signal when
you are through.

We'll contact you tomorrow
at the Hawaiian Regent Hotel.

DENNIS: Be there
with 500,000, Mr. Ducco.

Don't do anything
stupid like call someone.

[LINE DISCONNECTS]

I guess you know the
small-craft warnings are up.

QUINCY: Oh, hey, no problem.

This thing's got plenty of power.
We'll just chop right through.

Is this your boat?

QUINCY: It's a friend's.
- What's his name?

[TONOA GRUNTING]

QUINCY: Let's go, come on.

[RINGING]

DUKE: They picked up two suspects
on that savings-and-loan holdup.

One has a homicide
warrant in Colorado.

- Anything else from H.P.D.?
DUKE: The rest is pretty much routine.

- Morning, Danno.
DANNY: Morning.

You got something?

Yeah, country singer
named Bobbie Jo Bell

was reported missing
by her manager in L.A.

She was last seen taking a cab to
the airport here yesterday at 3 p.m.

She never arrived.

You mean she's never
missed a plane before?

Not without calling her manager.

She's got a big recording
date set up for tomorrow in L.A.

- She traveling alone?
- Yeah.

Apparently she was over here writing
a couple of songs for her new album.

That wasn't an Islandia
cab she took, was it?

Yeah, it was.

A cab was stolen out
of the Islandia company

yesterday around 2 p.m.

- Any ransom demand made?
- No.

Well, if somebody did grab her,

they're not gonna use
that cab for very long.

Duke, go over that
list of stolen cars again.

Cars stolen, say,
within the last 24 hours.

Right.

This window was broken
before the cab got here.

I'd say so. There's no
glass on the ground here.

It appears to have been
broken from the inside.

I wouldn't count on any
quick leads from fingerprints.

There will be an abundance. This
cab hasn't been washed in days.

Let us have them as
soon as you get them.

- It's all we have.
- Was this a kidnapping?

It has all the symptoms,
but no ransom note yet.

What's up?

A van was stolen from a
garage not far from here.

Let's check it out.

DENNIS: Hey, Quince.

- Quincy, wake up.
QUINCY: Huh? Yeah, what?

What's happening? What?

You ought to be in
the demolition derby.

- What are you talking about?
- The boat.

It broke up on the
rocks last night.

Now, look, don't put
that on me, captain.

I set the compass
right where you told me.

It's perfect. I love it.
Nobody knows where we are.

Dennis, I could sure go
for some bacon and eggs.

You got it.

The highway can't be
too far. Come on, let's go.

- Well, where are we? QUINCY:
Don't worry about a thing.

We got everything under
control. Just on your feet, huh?

- Come on.
- Get your shoes.

Come on.

QUINCY: You said something
about a highway, Dennis?

I think we're on
private property.

[JANGLING]

What can I do for you?

[WHISPERS] Anybody asks
questions, we're all friends, right?

No problem.

I wouldn't want you to
miss your next birthday.

[IN NORMAL VOICE] Good day.

- We're looking for the highway.
- Highway?

Yeah, we lost our boat
on the reef last night.

We have a cabin on the
other side of the island.

Well, you're headed
the wrong way.

Unless you wanna try a Native trail
that goes up the face of those cliffs.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Uh, excuse me, Mr. Navigator,
what is the right way?

COLIN: The Na Pali trail.

Goes along the
bluffs by the ocean.

You'll have to wait a day for the
path to dry out from last night's storm.

It rains a lot here.

We got all kinds of
wonderful choices.

Say, why do you need
an alarm system up here?

- My garden.
- Your garden?

Twenty-two kinds of vegetables.

If you crave cholesterol,

there's wild pigs and
goats up in the mountains.

Oh, good, thanks.

There's a shack not far from
here with a roof and a bed.

The owners won't be
back for a few weeks.

They went out to have a baby.

Uh, do you have a radio?

Heh. No need.

That will be Room 1211, Mr. Ducco.
Hope you have an enjoyable stay.

Well, thank you very much.

Please tell the switchboard
that I've just checked in.

- I'm expecting a very important call.
- Yes, sir.

Uh, just a minute.
I'll, uh... I'll carry that.

Danno? What have we got?

This is Jack Tonoa,
Steve. He's on security here.

He saw two men and a
woman board a powerboat here

about 4:40 yesterday afternoon.

Well, the guy in the boat was
the only one I really saw close.

The other guy, the shorter one,

must have gotten off the boat
and used the phone over there.

- He used that payphone?
- Well, I'm sort of guessing.

After I got knocked in the water
and crawled out, it was ringing.

If you feel up to it, I'd
like you to come downtown

and give a description
to our police artist.

I'll try.

Let's hope they made it to
wherever they were going, huh?

QUINCY: Dennis, this is
really the pits, you know.

No, it's not bad.

Lookit here.

Yes.

The side of a hill.

Look at that view, huh?
What more could you ask for?

QUINCY: Yeah.

- It isn't bad, isn't bad at all.
DENNIS: Come on, Bobbie. No.

No TV.

An icebox. A real icebox.

Lookie here, a monkey's delight.

[DENNIS GRUNTS]

Lookit here, Quince.

Air conditioning. Yes.

[BELLOWING]

DENNIS: What is that?
QUINCY: Ha-ha-ha.

Hey, now we are talking.

We are gonna have
ourselves a feast tonight.

DENNIS: How about a mai tai?

If Bobbie Jo can sing and
cook, we are gonna have a feast.

She's gone.

[GRUNTS]

[BOBBIE YELPS THEN GROANS]

Dennis, look, wait a minute.

She's pure hassle, right?
Well, let's get rid of her.

- We don't need her anymore.
- Aah!

Quince, we need her.

Ducco's gonna wanna talk to her.

That's right. Without
me, you'll get nothing.

You're right. You're right.

[DENNIS SIGHS]

Come on.

BOBBIE: Oh. Oh, my ankle.

I did something terrible to it.

You are pure hassle!

[BOBBIE SOBBING]

Come on.

[BOBBIE YELPS]

We had a busy
day with that storm.

Our cutter was
assisting a vessel

to the east of the
marina about that time.

Our crew would've noticed a
boat that small heading east

and recommended they turn back.

Well, we'll assume that
they headed northwest, then.

Well, from the marina here,
Kauai is just over a hundred miles.

And, uh, another 20 to Niihau.

With 40-knot winds and 8-foot swells,
they'd have done well to make Kauai.

Our station over there is doing
a marina and harbor check.

- The boat could've gone down at sea.
- Quite easily.

Course, if they made
Kauai before dawn,

they'd probably
abandon the boat,

which means you
wouldn't find anything.

If they're up one of
those high valleys,

we're gonna have a long,
slow search ahead of us, Steve.

Danno, you used to surf
over there, didn't you?

Yeah, great place to camp and
hide. Plenty of isolation, very few roads.

And a very small police force.

DENNIS: It's not
broken or anything.

- Oh.
- Maybe a little swelling, that's all.

It hurts like hell.
Here, let me try it.

Oh, no, I can't. Aah.

You see? You see, Dennis? I told
you. Now, we could've done without this.

Well, you wouldn't get
any money without me.

I know Stanley Ducco,

and he doesn't pay for anything
unless he sees the product.

Dennis, I'm hungry.
Now, what is the plan?

Because I'm not
carrying her out of here.

One of us has
gotta go for a boat.

The Coast Guard is gonna
be watching for boats.

Then, we, uh, go at night.

Yeah, how do we
get around the reef?

Huh.

What's wrong with a helicopter?

Well, what do we tell the pilot?

We tell him we went camping
with a fragile little female,

and she sprained
her dainty little ankle.

- That's what we tell him.
- Uh-huh.

- I like it.
- Yeah.

And you can call Ducco
and tell him to sit tight.

Oh, I can call him?

All right, we'll flip for it.

Yeah, I think it would be a
very good idea to flip for it.

All right. Call it.

Heads.

Get me some cigarettes.
Low-tar filter type.

We need some shells too.

BOBBIE: What are you looking for?
- Something to smoke.

Natural-food freaks usually
have something stashed away.

- Lookit here.
- A genuine ukulele. Hey, here.

Oh. Here you go.

Why don't you tune that up and
maybe play yourself something?

Well, I don't know what
the acoustics are like

in this recording studio of
yours, but, um, I'll give it a try.

All right.

[TUNING UKULELE]

[PLAYING UKULELE]

BOBBIE [SINGING]:
I remember Mama

Always mendin' broken clothes

John and I would play in mud
That oozed between our toes

Daddy was a preacher man
When preaching didn't pay

There were hungry times
But he knew what to say

He'd say Keep your
circle round, child

Keep your wheel a-turnin'

Keep your candle burnin'
Through the darkness of the night

Don't let disappointments
tie you up And put you down

Hear his sound And
keep your circle round

Hear his sound And
keep your circle round

Pretty good. Pretty good.

Did you, uh, ever think
about doing a record? Huh?

How come you happened to nominate
little old me for your kidnappee?

- Aw. Come on.
- Wait a second.

- There you go.
- Okay.

- A long and dull story.
- Not to me, it isn't.

DENNIS: Come on, sit down.

We were in a pretty
good business.

We were making
eight-tracks and cassettes

off the top-ten
chart in Chicago.

- Chicago? What company?
- Heh. Our own.

- Oh, underground tapes, you mean.
- Yeah, yeah.

We were selling them for $4 per
in the gas stations and drive-ins.

Gonna make a hundred
thousand dollars, split it between us.

We weren't hurting anybody.

And then your Stanley Ducco
hired some investigators,

and the police zeroed in on us.

He put you in the pokey, huh?

Yeah, he put us in the
pokey. Eighteen months.

Of course, Ducco, he wanted
to keep us in there five years.

Well, I don't blame
you for being ticked.

I'd ask for a half-million
too. You've earned it.

Damn right.

He makes more
than that just off of me.

You putting me on?

- No.
- Oh.

[TWIG SNAPS]

Here comes the Organic Man.

You might have a
taste for these by now.

- I'm ready.
- Hunger never saw bad bread.

You got any pizza or lasagna
or anything in that bag?

No.

But I do have
something for that ankle.

I saw you limping on the trail.

One of the old regulars
up here had a football knee.

This should help keep the
swelling down and relieve the pain.

I'll buy that.

- My name's Josie.
- Colin. Colin Lamb.

That's a nice name.

I hope he's got
malpractice insurance.

Colin, anybody else live
in this valley besides you?

Two others.

Bible Jim and Amanda
live a couple miles higher.

He's a preacher. She plays
the flute and sings a little.

- But not as nice as you.
- Thank you.

Anyone else?

In the summer, we get
some campers, nudies,

looking for a
wilderness experience.

They stay on the beach mainly.
They miss the real beauty of this place.

This is what Hawaii is supposed
to be, what paradise was.

You can have it.

It's Pearl Harbor to me.

They don't even have
a cigarette machine.

That's why some
people like it here.

You know, Colin,

I think I just heard your
early-warning system.

Yep, as a matter of fact, I did.

It's probably some
urban guerrillas up here,

making a sneak
attack on your radishes.

I'll have a look.
Might be goat hunters.

See you later.

Yeah.

You know, if you're not careful,
you're gonna get him killed.

Wreckage from that stolen boat
was picked up off the coast of Niihau.

There were some
pieces from a guitar.

- Off Niihau?
- Southwest of Kauai.

But your original
hunch may still be valid.

The flotsam was on a current

that swings down from
the north coast of Kauai.

That current is very
consistent at this time of year.

McGARRETT: Hmm.

CHIN HO: Steve?
- Yeah, Chin?

A long-distance call was made

from the marina phone
booth to a Stanley Ducco,

president of Lucky Label
Records in Los Angeles.

[SNAPS FINGERS
THEN RAPS ON DESK]

- Get Mr. Ducco on the phone for me.
- I already tried.

His secretary said he was out of
town, doesn't know where he is,

and has no
knowledge of the call.

Okay, call her back.

See if you can get the name
of his bank and his travel agent.

Now, if she refuses to
cooperate, go through the airlines.

Right.

I hope this Ducco
will cooperate with us.

I think he might when he
finds out his top recording star

might have gone
down with that boat.

[EASY-LISTENING MUSIC
PLAYING ON RADIO]

REPORTER [ON RADIO]: The
Dow Jones average has closed

four points higher
today, responding to the...

- Say, how far is the nearest airport?
- Lihue, 30 miles.

Oh.

Oh, aren't there some, uh, helicopters
that land at hotels around here?

That is so at
Princeville, three miles.

- Princeville?
- Mm-hm.

Could I get some change
for the phone booth?

Okay.

REPORTER: The low-pressure area

which brought storm
conditions has moved westward,

and temperatures
on the Garden Island

will range between 72
degrees during the day

and 64 at night.

Now, here's a late news bulletin
on the mysterious disappearance

of recording star
Bobbie Jo Bell.

The Coast Guard has found debris

from a boat that was
carrying two men...

Two beers is $1.
You still want change?

Oh, yeah, sorry.

REPORTER: Authorities fear that
she, as well as her alleged abductors,

were lost at sea.

Every available military and
private helicopter on Kauai

is being employed in the search.

I don't think you'll get a
helicopter for a few days.

No, it sure doesn't
sound like it, does it?

Eh, they're too
expensive anyway.

- Hello?
- Oh, Mr. Ducco?

DUCCO [OVER PHONE]: Right.

Just wanted to let you know
that your star is nice and healthy.

Oh, boy, am I glad to hear that.

Just five minutes ago, I
was watching a newscast.

Uh, Mr. Ducco, the question
is, do you have the money?

Yeah, yeah, I got
all of it. It's right here.

Good, good. Uh... Well,
this is the plan, Mr. Ducco.

We want you to come to Kauai,

check in at the Princeville Hotel
under the name of Frank Carter,

and then we'll call you.

Princeville, Frank
Carter, I've got it.

Look, I wanna talk to Bobbie.

Oh, you will. You
will, Mr. Ducco.

So long as you don't make the
mistake of bringing anybody with you.

[LINE DISCONNECTS]

Operator, get me Aloha Airlines.

Hello, I'd like to
make a reservation.

[KNOCKING ON DOOR]

Who is it?

McGARRETT: McGarrett,
Hawaii Five-0, state police.

State police?

- Come on in.
- Thank you.

To what do I owe this visit?

McGARRETT: Bobbie
Jo Bell, Mr. Ducco.

And the half-million dollars in cash
you got from the Federal Reserve.

Now, wait a minute, heh.

Bobbie is very special to
me. I've known her a long time.

I discovered her.

Right now her life
depends on me, not you.

- Have you been following the news?
- Yes, I have.

If the Coast Guard thinks
she may have drowned,

how do you know she's alive?

These kidnappers
trust me, Mr. McGarrett.

- Trust you?
- Please, sit down.

Playing by the kidnapper's rules
guarantees a satisfied kidnapper,

not a live victim, Mr. Ducco.

Now, when did you
hear from them last?

I haven't.

Except for the
one call to be here.

- You're sure of that?
- Of course.

Hey, you're not gonna tap
my phone now, are you?

I can understand
your excessive caution

if you were dealing with pros.

But these two halfwits
have lost their boat,

they've almost drowned,

and now that their
feeble-minded plan is falling apart,

they don't even have
the sense to call it off.

They're irrational and unpredictable,
the most dangerous kind of kidnapper.

I want you to know
that, Mr. Ducco.

How do you know
you can find her safely?

We don't.

But there's hope if you
tell us what's going on.

Every move they
make, every contact.

Okay.

I'll let you know
when they call.

McGARRETT: Danno.

DANNY: Operator says he made
one local phone call this morning

and one just now
to Aloha Airlines.

McGARRETT: Ah.

So much for Ducco's
cooperation and integrity.

From what the Coast Guard says,

we can assume they're
on Kauai, if they're still alive.

McGARRETT: Well, the way
Ducco talked, they are alive.

We can't send a
search force over there.

The kidnappers may want us to
believe they all went down with the boat.

It's got to be handled quietly.

DANNY: I know that
island pretty well, Steve.

I think I might know
where they'd be hiding out.

You mean one of
those isolated valleys?

I think so.

Okay, Danno, get your hiking
gear, grab the next plane.

If you come up with
anything, I'll join you.

Right.

Thirty-eight dollars for the groceries,
46 for the pack, 32 for the boots.

- That's $106.
- Okay.

Oh, yeah, by the way,
I need some shells

for my M-1 carbine.30 caliber.

- Going hunting?
- Yeah.

- Wild goats or pigs?
- Uh, pigs.

QUINCY: Hey.

You had me sweating.

Oh, I shrunk 2 inches
and you're sweating.

- Well, you were gone long enough.
- Oh. Sorry, please forgive me.

Hey, uh, what you
got in the bag there?

Food.

We're not going
anywhere for a couple days.

See, the, uh...

The helicopters are
looking for our bodies.

Great. You mean
they found the boat?

That's right.

At least parts of it. It seems
that we are lost at sea.

Well, that's great.

We don't have to
worry about the cops.

Did you call Ducco?

Sure, I called Ducco.

I told him to bring the
money to the Princeville Hotel

and wait for our call.

And, uh, he wants to speak
to her before he pays us.

Well, it's almost
like our original plan.

Get her to the phone,
we'll arrange a pickup.

And then?

And then we deliver you

to the open arms of
Mr. Stanley Ducco.

You make another gold
record, recoup the half-million.

It's that simple.

Hey, uh, Quincy, did
you get any peanut butter?

These are hard times.

Yeah, well, as long as
you got the cigarettes.

Where are they?

You forgot them, you dummy.

Well, big deal.

Look, you want cigarettes,
you go walk 20 miles for them.

I notice you had time to buy
yourself a new pair of boots.

[PLAYING SERENE FOLK SONG]

Another grand and glorious day

in the fine green
valley of the good Lord.

We are mutually blessed, my friends.
My name's Jim. We live up the way.

- Jim. And who's on flute?
- This is my helpmate, Amanda.

- Hello.
- Hi.

I'm Dick. That's
Jane. This here's Spot.

- What's happening, Jim?
- We're on our way to Hanalei.

But we'd be glad to take orders

for goods from Yang's store
if you're needing anything.

Yeah, we could
use some cigarettes.

I'm sorry, brother, but
I'm a friend of Jesus.

And to traffic in
that vile substance

is contrary to the sanctity
of the human body.

Besides which, the surgeon general
may just know what he's talking about.

Say, Jim, how long
you lived up here?

- Five beautiful years, brother.
- Do you have a radio?

I was wondering who was
gonna be in the playoffs.

Radios bring news
of a violent world.

If you have no further
requests, we'll be on our way.

Peace and love. Amanda.

They didn't even notice Bobbie.

Those nature freaks
have been up here so long,

they wouldn't even
notice the president.

[PHONE RINGS]

- McGarrett. DANNY
[OVER PHONE]: Steve?

- Yeah, Danno.
- I got a possible make on the sketch.

DANNY: Store
owner in Hanalei said

he hiked up one of the
valleys up the Na Pali trail.

- You need any help?
- Not yet.

I have to figure out which
valley, make sure it's our guy.

- Do you have a radio, Danno?
- Yeah.

I'll call in on the local police
channel and have them pass the word.

Good, good, and we'll advise
police headquarters in Lihue.

We'll be standing by.

- Well, afternoon, brother.
- Hi.

JIM: How's the trail down at
your end? Any rain down there?

No, it's high and dry.

You've got good trucking
all the way to Kalalau

if you're going that far.

Yeah, I might.

Got some friends up
one of these valleys.

Two guys and a gal. You
might have seen them.

Maybe so, in Kalalau.
Sounds like our strangers.

One of them's Spot.

Yeah, they're in the big shack
by the macadamia-nut grove.

- Thanks. Save me some walking.
- Afternoon, brother.

I'm in 1211, Stanley Ducco.

If anyone calls, I'll be at the
Kahuna Recording Studios.

I'll be there all afternoon
cutting a record.

Oh, very well, Mr. Ducco.

Airport, please.

[ENGINE STARTS]

Central?

Officer Kelly. Patch
me through to McGarrett.

McGARRETT: Go ahead, Chin.

Yeah, Chin.

Yeah, I got it.

Okay, I'll take it
from here. Thank you.

If someone will get
water, I'll start dinner.

I'm for that.

Hi, Colin.

This might help you
get around a little better.

BOBBIE: Oh, thanks. You're
just the man I wanted to see.

QUINCY: Hey, Colin.

This bandage is loose,
and I can't get it tight enough.

- You have to start it at the bottom.
- Oh.

Well, that's much
better, doctor.

Colin, how would you
like to hustle into town

and buy me some
cigarettes for 20 bucks?

Uh, I'll be going in a few
days. I'll pick some up for you.

No charge.

Tell you what. I'll make
it 30 if you go right now.

- That'll buy a lot of garden seed.
- It sure would.

I'll think about it.

Bye.

[SIGHS]

You sure we want
him to go to town?

What? I wanna get
rid of him, that's all.

DISPATCHER [OVER RADIO]:
Ninety-three, what's your location?

Ninety-three. On Makiki,
heading for the airport.

DISPATCHER: You have a
10-16 priority at the Dolphin Motel.

- Why are we stopping here, driver?
- Another guy is hot to make a plane.

But I'm paying for this cab.

Don't worry, Mr. Ducco.

We'll split the fare.

[GUN COCKS]

Hi, Colin.

I see you decided to
go into town after all.

For 30 bucks, I'd swim to town.

Well, you sure you have
enough money for the cigarettes?

Yeah.

Well, you know, that is
quite a long way to go.

Maybe we'd better make sure.

Now, I want you to empty
your pockets inside out.

Now.

DANNY: Hello.

DENNIS: Howdy.

- Wow. Great place you got here.
- Thank you.

It used to be a lot nicer
before it turned into a bus stop.

We came up here to
meditate, you understand.

I'm sorry to interrupt.

There's some nice
campsites up the valley there.

DANNY: Guess I'll wander on up.

You do a lot of hunting up here?

Oh, we've seen some
wild goats and pigs.

[GUNSHOT]

Guess my partner just
got us some fresh meat.

Yeah.

- So long.
- Bye.

This is Dan Williams,
Five-0, calling Lihue Dispatch.

[STATIC CRACKLING ON RADIO]

This is Williams, Five-0,
calling Lihue Dispatch.

Can you read me?

[STATIC CRACKLING ON RADIO]

- Hey, Quince.
- Yeah?

I found a map of Nature Boy's.

- You're kidding. DENNIS: No.

Lookit here, there's some caves.

You go on a trail all along the way
to a scenic turnout point for tourists.

Well, that's, uh...
That's up there.

That means there must
be a highway on top.

Yeah, Highway 53. It goes down
the other side of the mountain.

- That's about a mile or two away.
- Yeah.

Why don't we just walk
up and have a look?

According to the map,
there's a mule trail there.

- That can't be too hard to follow.
- Beautiful.

You guys really think
you're smart enough

to follow a mule trail?

- We don't have to be
nice to you. BOBBIE: Unh.

Well, come to think of
it, I think it's high time

she did something nice for us.

- You bet. DANNY: Freeze.

I'm a police officer.
You're under arrest.

Lie face down. Both of you.

Don't move.

This is the Lord's valley!

Guns are an abomination
in the eyes of God!

Dennis, I'm hit, I'm hit.

Hey, cop.

One more shot from you,
I'm gonna blow her away.

You hear me?

Come on, Quincy.
Get the rifle, get up.

- Can you make it? QUINCY: Yeah.

All right, cover us. Come on.

I'll get you.

My name's Williams, Five-0.

Those two men kidnapped that
woman in Honolulu three days ago.

My deepest apologies,
brother. I had no idea you were...

I know.

You wanna help now, brother?

JIM: They're headed for
these caves above the falls.

Is there any place to land
a helicopter in this area?

Uh-uh. Too steep and too many
trees. You have to land on the beach.

They'd have a clear view
of your arrival for an hour

before you reached the caves.

The trail goes on
up past the falls.

Now, could they get out
of the valley that way?

Maybe.

That's an old pack trail,
but rock slides have cut it.

Oh, they might try. They're
hungry for that half-million.

You could land on the
other side of the top,

but you wouldn't get down
that trail without being seen.

And I wouldn't try it.
That's a 4,000-foot drop.

Captain, I'll need a
chopper, unmarked and fast.

Right, let's go.

Hold it, hold it, hold it.

[BOBBIE SIGHS]

How many more caves?
We've already passed two.

It's not important. We're
going all the way to the top.

We got an appointment
with Mr. Ducco.

That cop, he probably
went back to get help.

How do we know that
he hasn't followed us?

I've been watching.

Dennis...

You go on ahead.
I'm gonna catch up.

I wanna make
sure that he hasn't.

Go on. I owe him one anyway.

Come on.

Come on.

It's been a long time since any
mules have been up this trail.

Maybe there's a reason.
Look, I'm tired and my foot hurts.

Shut up. Come on.

Come on.

We made it.

We made it! The
road's right here!

- All right! All...!
- Hold it right there.

Don't move. Don't say a word.

Put your hands on your head.

Chin, take him.

Hey!

Now I got you, pig.

[GUNFIRE]

McGARRETT: Hold it!

[GUNSHOT]

BOBBIE: I didn't get your name.

- McGarrett. Steve McGarrett.
BOBBIE: Thanks, Steve McGarrett.

McGARRETT: Are you all
right? BOBBIE: I am now.

Looks like... Looked like
you had your hands full

for a while, Danno.

Yeah, both of them.

- How's the ankle?
- Fine, thanks.

Okay.
