Hawaii Five-O (1968–1980): Season 7, Episode 4 - Steal Now - Pay Later - full transcript

Colby runs an operation that fences stolen goods with retailers enticed by too-good-to-be-true prices. Five-O enters the case when the body of a federal law-enforcement agent -- killed during a robbery on the Mainland -- is discovered in a refrigerator shipped to Hawaii. McGarrett & Co. turn up the heat as the body count increases.

This is Jack Lord inviting
you to be with us next for...

( dramatic theme playing)

"Steal Now, Pay Later."

Might be a better
question if you asked

what lines I don't handle.

MAN: A couple of weeks ago,

he got me a lot of
major merchandise

15 percent off street price.

That's quite a buy.

DANNO: This guy was
stuffed in a refrigerator.

In a refrigerator?

They are new.
Warranties and tags still on.

We can't deal with him anymore.

We've already dealt with him.

That can't be
changed. Understand?

That can't be changed.

( dramatic theme playing)

DANNO: Five-0 One,
pursuing black Lincoln sedan.

Request assistance, all cars.

Next:

(screaming)

"Steal Now." Be here, aloha.

( upbeat surf theme playing)

(jazz music playing
on truck stereo)

(music continues)

What's the problem?

I just broke down. I got
a sick woman in back.

I gotta get her to a hospital.

Let me take a
look at her. Thanks.

Get your hands up
against the car. Move!

Turn around.

Now, where's the manifest?

In the tractor next to my seat.

Open the rig.

Okay, get down over there.

On the ground.

Okay, lock it up.

All right, freeze!

( relaxed theme playing)

(ringing)

Wide World Merchandise,
Dave speaking.

Colby. Everything all right?

Consignment acquired
and it's on its way.

There's, uh, just one thing.

What's that?

There's something
wrong with one unit.

Serial number XN52...
N... No, it's 53921.

Better take it out
of the shipment.

Why? What's wrong?

I gotta split. Bye.

(ringing)

Pacific Warehouse and Storage.

It's Colby, Wide
World Merchandise.

On invoice number 661,

arriving from San Francisco
on the S.S. Palomar...

Uh, let's see. One
moment, please.

Due the 21st of this month.

That's it. I'd like you to
remove one unit from the rest.

That's serial number XN53921.

Yeah, just put it aside.

I'll have a man pick it up.

Right.

( suspenseful theme playing)

In the truck.

( ominous theme playing)

Deep six it.

( dramatic theme playing)

(siren wailing)

( suspenseful theme playing)

Yeah, over 100,000
Lou. It's a work of art.

It looks so real we hate to
send it to you guys in Treasury.

(chuckles)

Yeah, I know.

Let us know when you put
a match to it, we'll cry a little.

(chuckles): Yeah, so long.

(hangs up)

Put this in the safe
until Treasury picks it up,

and get a receipt for it.

Steve. This just came up
in a net in Kaneohe Bay.

Male, approximately
35. Shot to death

around two weeks ago.

We're checking
his fingerprints now.

Mob hit?

Could be, but if it
is, it's a new M.O.

Are there any new M.O.'s now?

This guy was stuffed
in a refrigerator.

In a refrigerator?

Yeah, brand-new.
Warranties and tags still on it.

Just got this off the telex.

Name of victim, Lloyd
Donaldson. Age, 36.

Occupation, federal agent.

Federal agent?

Poor guy. Call Washington.
Find his last known whereabouts

and the case he was working on

the last time they
had contact with him.

Okay.

Hey, Arnold. How
are you, sweetheart?

Watch this man, he's one
of the original 40 thieves.

Steals from everybody,
keeps everything.

Take care of yourself, baby.

Hello, love. Hello.

There you go. Yes. Beautiful.

(piano music playing,
people chattering)

Hey, how you doing?
It's nice to see you.

I'll see you soon. Okay.

In case you're interested,

the blond at the bar
just loves to travel.

You might keep that in mind

next time you go
to a trade show.

(laughs): Listen, be careful.

This is my Uncle Charlie, right?

Now, he watches everything
I do just like... Like an uncle.

He reports to my
wife, everything.

Oh, Larry, don't be silly.

What you do on the
road is your own business.

I mean, it's the
retailers' code.

Charlie Portman, meet Ron Colby.

How do you do?
How do you do, sir?

Best commission man in Hawaii.

Well, gentlemen, shall
we, uh, drink our lunch?

Oh, just tomato juice for me.

I'll have a perfect Manhattan.

Make that two, and
bring us a platter

of the special hors d'oeuvres.

The sliced-steak
tidbits, very rare.

Yes, sir.

Well, what lines do
you handle, Mr. Colby?

Might be a better
question if you asked

what lines I don't
handle. He's beautiful.

A couple of weeks ago, right?

He got me a lot of
major merchandise

fifteen percent
off street price.

That's quite a buy.

Anything you want, I can get it.

I give the best
prices on the island.

Plus, um, a bonus
to the buyer of $1000

for every order of
$10,000 or more.

(chuckles): Beautiful.

Sportswear too? I mean,
that's my department.

Try me. I could use
some fancy swimwear.

Women's.

I mean, first quality,

about, uh, 40 gross. Hmm?

What's your number,
Charlie? I'll call you.

It's 786-2300. That's
the Wear-Right Chain.

Listen, I may as well take
down your number too, while...

I make all the calls.

That's the way I do business.

All right.

Now, if you'll excuse
me, gentlemen.

Yeah, go ahead.

I've got a line on the
TV sets you wanted.

How does he do it?

I mean, how could he slice
so much off the street price

and give the buyer
a kickback besides?

You need the bread,
right? You know I do.

Joan's in college, taxes
on the house have doubled,

and I'm into the
bank for about 10,000.

All right, then. No
questions, okay?

Yeah, but I... No, no,
no. Unc, no questions.

Steve, mainland report.

Federal agent was
working undercover

at the time of his death.

Driver for a California
trucking company.

Hijacking investigation
still going on.

"Last known to be driving van
from Santa Rosa to Oakland.

Contents of van: Refrigerators."

Yeah, 110 disappeared.

Here's the serial numbers.

Here it is.

"XN53921."

"XN53921."

That's the refrigerator that
Agent Donaldson was found in.

Maybe they all ended
up in Hawaii, huh?

A hundred and 10
refrigerators fenced in Hawaii?

Why not?

Steve, just a few stores
handle that many appliances.

A big store's legit. Heh.

They wouldn't
handle stolen goods.

Not if they knew
they were stolen.

But it's possible...

It's just possible
they didn't know.

We're used to a
different kind of fencing.

Jewelry, watches, cameras.

Things that are
sold in an alleyway

from inside a hustler's coat.

But what about the big stuff?

How do you fence a
truckload of refrigerators?

Not from inside
a hustler's coat.

No, but from inside
a hustler's head.

Somehow, someway, they've
got to flow into normal channels.

I want every store in Hawaii
that handles appliances,

checked for these
serial numbers.

Get all the help you need.

Right.

COLBY: Super-frost
air conditioners.

Yeah, 15 percent
below wholesale.

You heard me, Marty.
Super-frost air conditioners.

Yeah, 15 percent
below wholesale.

Yeah, I thought you would.

I'll let you know as
soon as they're here.

(phone ringing)

Shipping room. Slater.

Colby. I've got a customer

interested in women's
swimwear, 40 gross.

When do you need it?

The sooner the better.

Get back to me in a day or two.

I'll let you know
what's going out.

Good.

McGARRETT: Please,
sit down, gentlemen.

We're investigating
a very serious crime.

In your store,
Mr. Rogers, we found,

uh, six dozen refrigerators

bearing the serial numbers
of stolen merchandise.

Impossible.

But that's not all.

A man was murdered,
brutally murdered,

in the commission of that theft.

Here's a list of your stock,

and a list of the machines

stolen in California
two weeks ago.

How did this
happen? I don't know.

What do you mean,
you don't know?

Where did you buy
the merchandise?

From a jobber, from
a commission man.

I mean, how was I to know?

You're supposed to
have ways of knowing.

Gentlemen, we
realize that you both

could be innocent
victims, and I, uh...

I certainly hope you are.

Who was this jobber
you referred to?

Uh, Colby, Ron Colby.

Located where?

Uh... I don't know.
You don't know?

You buy thousand
and thousands of dollars

worth of merchandise
from someone,

and you don't know
where he's located?

Well, we... We
meet at restaurants.

You know, trade places,
hangouts, you know?

And, uh, we talk
on the telephone.

What's his telephone number?

I don't know.

He calls me.

Mr. Swift, don't you
think that's a bit much?

Danno, check the
telephone company,

the real estate board,
utility companies.

See if there's a phone
listed for a Colby...

What's his first name? Ron.

Wide World Merchandise,
any place on this island.

If not, try Kauai,
Maui, or the big island.

Right.

Gentlemen, I would say

that someone is in
very serious trouble.

( suspenseful theme playing)

DAVE: Wide World
Merchandise, Dave speaking.

Colby. I've got a customer

interested in color TV sets.

All you can beg,
borrow, or steal.

I checked with the
telephone company,

the real estate board,
and all the utilities.

There is no listing for Colby
or Wide World Merchandise.

But the buyer swears

that his refrigerators
came from Wide World,

and his invoices bear him out.

Well, anything can be printed.

Okay, so you've got
a fictional company,

that's nothing more
than a printed letterhead,

but you've got 100
refrigerators or more to store.

What do you do with them?

Easy. Yeah, okay.

Then check every warehouse

and storage
company on this rock.

Somewhere there's
gotta be one, maybe more,

that has done
business with Colby.

Right.

Chin, run this over
to the computer.

(ringing)

Shipping. Slater.

It's Colby. Any word
on the swimwear?

Good thing you called.

We shipped 100
gross to Honolulu,

arriving tomorrow.

They'll be in
Warehouse 12, Alakea.

Good.

(ringing)

Yeah? COLBY: It's Colby.

Warehouse 12, Alakea, tomorrow.

Swimwear shipment delivered

to Koheni Warehouse
and Storage Company,

in the name of
Pan-Pacific Imports.

Got it.

(phone ringing)

Charles Portman speaking.

COLBY: This is Ron Colby
here. How are you, Charlie?

Fine. Say, that was a
great lunch the other day.

There'll be others.

Listen, I've got a line on
that swimwear you wanted.

So fast? That's
how I do business.

How's Fashions In
Swimwear brand? Okay?

Only the best.

Join the list of happy
customers, Charlie.

Look, I'm giving
a little party today

in the Lanai Room of the Ilikai.

Why don't you drop
by around 5:00?

I'm sure you'll meet a
lot of your old friends.

MAN: That's all the goods
we've stored for Wide World

over the past 12 months.

You holding anything
for them now?

No. Something wrong?

That's what I'd
like to find out.

Did you ever meet any
of the Wide World people?

No.

Not one?

Well, a voice
over the telephone.

Well, how do
they pay their bills?

By certified check,
and right on time.

( suspenseful theme playing)

He's stashing his
stuff all over town.

He's made use of every
warehouse on this island

at one time or another.

Look at this invoice.

Seven hundred cartons of film.

Moved from
Warehouse 4 March 21st,

went into Alee
Storage March 22nd,

moved out March 23rd.

He moves this stuff around
like checkers on a board.

He uses different warehouses,
different invoice numbers,

until the source of the
merchandise is lost.

No link to Colby. He
never goes near the stuff.

Well, how does he move it?

DUKE: Rental trucks.

We've checked that out
with the warehouse people.

He's got a million-dollar
fencing operation

and no capital investment.

Just a man and a telephone.

But we know that he
surfaces every once in a while

to make contact with buyers.

Once in a while.

Well, next time he
comes up, he goes down.

( dramatic theme playing)

(soft music playing,
people chattering)

Hey, Arnold. Arnold.

Arnold, how are you?

Oh, good to see you again.

That's the best thing
I've heard in a long time.

Sam, Max, I see you're in very
good company here, gentlemen.

So, uh, enjoy your lunch.

MAN: All right, you got it.

Thank you, darling.
It's good to see you.

A little sour.

Listen, this buyer
I was talking to...

Mr. Colby? Yes?

Five-0, state police.

We'd like you to
come with us, please.

Certainly. May I
make a telephone call?

Sure, from our office.

What business are
you in, Mr. Colby?

I'm a jobber. I buy, I sell.

Buy and sell what? Merchandise.

Including refrigerators?

No, I never handle them.

Oh. That's strange.

Mr. Swift of the Rogers
Department Store

said that he bought a large
shipment of refrigerators

from Wide World Merchandise.

Is that yours? No.

No connection with them? No.

Have you ever met Mr. Swift?

I might, yes.

And, uh, did you
ever sell him anything?

I don't remember.

Suppose Mr. Swift were
to walk in here right now,

would that refresh your memory?

It might.

How long have
you lived in Hawaii?

Uh, two years and two months.

Nothing wrong with your
memory there, is there?

And before that?

Oh, a lot of places.

Such as?

New York, Detroit, Chicago, L.A.

We checked all those
cities, Mr. Colby, and others.

Nobody seems to
know anything about you,

at least, not under that name.

Well, a man leads a
clean life, there's no reason

for the police to keep
a chart on him, is there?

Steve, see you a minute?

Colby's lawyer's here. He's
got a writ of habeas corpus.

Says we gotta charge
him or let him go.

(exhales): Okay.

Okay, you may go.

For a while.

I, uh, can't say it's
been a pleasure.

Danno, have they left?
DANNO: Yes, Steve.

I want every available
man in plain clothes

assigned to warehouses
across the island.

I wanna know if as much as
a pencil is moved by that guy

or anybody from Wide
World Merchandise.

Hey, Charlie. You made it, huh?

This is quite a shindig.
Glad to see you.

What do you want? Something
to eat, something to drink?

Whatever you want,
we can supply it.

Ask and you shall receive.

Then maybe we'll
talk a little business.

There's Jimmy Subato. I
know... You know Jimmy?

Of course, I know Jimmy.
Ask him who got him his job

as clothes buyer at Purvis.

He's been buying
from me for years.

I was wondering how he
could sell those suits so cheap.

I made him a hero
to his boss, Charlie.

I can do the same
for you. (chuckles)

Wait, wait.

Charlie, I got
a little business.

You take care of
Mr. Portman, please.

See you later. Have a good time.

Make yourself
comfortable. Thank you.

(distant music, chatter)

What is it, Larry?

Refrigerators,
where'd you get them?

I don't stay in business
by revealing my sources.

I know your sources.

They called me into Five-0.

They showed me a
list of stolen goods.

They showed me
a list of my stock.

And that's just the beginning.

There's gonna be
a grand jury probe.

I know all about
it, I fully expect it.

Expect it? Yes.

That's what you're telling
me now, right? You expect it?

My career and reputation ruined,

and you tell me
is you expect it?

I would save the innocent
act for the grand jury,

don't waste it on me. After
all, I'm your accomplice.

Accomplice? What are you, crazy?

Where do you think I
was getting the stuff from,

the Salvation Army?
You know what's going on.

They all know what's going
on, but they don't wanna admit it.

No, Larry, you're an accomplice,
right from the very beginning.

But don't worry about it.

Because the only link between
you and I is your memory,

and your memory is going
to fail. And if it doesn't fail,

then I have friends that
can help to make it fail.

Permanently.

You better come inside
and have a drink, Larry.

You look as if you need it.

COLBY: Charlie, Charlie.
Where the hell are you, Charlie?

Are you having a good
time? It's a swell party, Ron.

I don't know when
I've had this much fun.

I think I got a line on that
shipment, wanna talk prices?

The same discount you
gave Larry Swift, right?

I'll do a little better than
that. How about 500 a gross?

Why, that's incredible.

But, what delivery date?

With a little luck, tomorrow
morning, first thing.

( suspenseful theme playing)

Tropic Art Furniture company.
Two dozen bamboo couches.

Uh, I got no invoice on it.

You have now. Get
inside and lay down.

Move it! Okay.

( ominous theme playing)

All right, down on your knees.

(gasps) On your face.

Hey.

No, I only work here. Please.

All right, on the floor.
You won't get hurt.

All right, truck's ready.

MAN: Freeze. Police officer.

( ominous theme playing)

(grunts)

( dramatic theme playing)

( suspenseful theme playing)

(tires screech)

What have we got, Duke?

Unmarked van
arrived at 5:09 p.m.

Challenged at the
door by a security guard,

he was overcome very
quickly by gunpoint.

The van contained five men.

Three in the back,
two in the front.

The driver seemed
to be the leader.

The van departed at 5:25.

Officer Ralph Heolani.

Working undercover.

Killed in the line of duty.

Has his family been notified?

Yes.

The deputy chief
called his wife.

Duke, I want a thousand copies

of that stolen-property
list run off.

I want every detective

in the Honolulu Police
Department to get one.

I want every warehouse,

every trucking company,

every retail outlet canvassed

until we get that stuff
and find out who did this.

Right.

(indistinct radio chatter)

Larry. Larry, wait, wait.

Charlie, what are
you doing here?

There was a robbery in
a warehouse last night.

A policeman was killed.
All right, so, what about it?

Well, it's what they stole.

Swimsuits. Look.

Fashions In Swimwear.

That's what your friend
Colby was getting for me.

Come on, that's a coincidence.

Now, look. Larry, don't you see?

It all comes together now.
That's how he sells so cheap.

He's a crook. He's a dealer
in stolen merchandise.

Hey, hey, come on.

Twenty years in the business.
I should've seen it before.

Now, look, you calm
down. I gotta split.

No, wait. Larry,
for your own sake,

you have got to break
it off with that man.

And so will I. We can't
deal with him anymore.

We've already dealt with him.

That can't be
changed, understand?

That can't be
changed. But, Larry...

You listen to me now. I
want you to go back to work.

And I want you to
remember what you told me

about silence being golden.

Use it, Uncle Charlie,

because it just
might save our lives.

This is Williams checking in.

We're at Pacific
Warehouse and Storage. Out.

What do you got, Chin?

A truckload of swimwear
came in last night.

Matches the stolen property.

What kind of truck?

It was a rented job.

Can we see the swimwear?

They went out this morning.

Central, this is Williams.
Patch me through to McGarrett.

(phone ringing)

McGarrett. Yes, Danno.

They shipped out the
swimwear this morning.

In another rented truck?

That's right.

Well, at least we know
what we're looking for.

Thanks, Danno.

Jenny, get me the Honolulu
Retailers Association.

Morning, Louise.
Morning, Mr. Portman.

Any calls?

The Honolulu
Retailers Association.

They had some questions
about our inventory.

Any special items? I don't know.

I turned them over
to the Stockroom.

All right.

(ringing)

Charles Portman speaking.

This is Colby. Did
the swimwear arrive?

Yes, and I want
it out of here fast.

Now, why? Is something
wrong? The colors, the style?

You know what's wrong.

I don't want that
merchandise in this store.

That's impossible, Charlie.

We made a deal. I can't
return the merchandise.

But you didn't tell me
where you were getting it.

You didn't ask me
where I was getting it.

You owe me 22 thou, Charlie.

You better put a
check in the mail,

because you might not like
the people I send to collect.

Not you, and not your family.

(Colby hangs up)

( ominous theme playing)

( suspenseful theme playing)

(knock on door)

Yes.

Two gentlemen to
see you. Who are they?

Mr. McGarrett and
Mr. Williams. Hawaii Five-0.

Show them in.

Right this way,
please. Thank you.

Mr. Portman.

We understand
that you took delivery

of some swimwear this morning.

Forty gross?

That's correct.

Where did it come
from, Mr. Portman?

From one of our regular
jobbers. Which one?

The name slips my
mind at the moment.

Are you saying you don't know?

We deal with so
many of these people.

Mr. Portman, I must caution you
about any statements you make.

We're investigating an
armed robbery and murder,

and anyone who conspired

to rob and/or receive
that stolen goods

might be considered an
accessory to that murder.

Oh, I assure you, we have
been in business for 20 years,

we wouldn't be party
to anything like...

Where's the merchandise?

It's in the storeroom.

I'd like to see it. Certainly.

Excuse me. It's this way.

( action theme playing)

Watch it, Danno.

There he goes!

(tires screech)

This is 501, 501.

Pursuing fleeing felon.

Heading makai on Ward Avenue.

Black Lincoln sedan.
Request assistance, all cars.

(siren blaring) Request
assistance, all cars.

(siren blaring)

Heading Ewa on Ala Moana Avenue.

Heading Ewa on Ala Moana Avenue.

Suspect not believed to
be armed nor dangerous.

Tell them the dock area.

Yeah, heading
towards the dock area.

Going Ewa and Ala Moana,
heading towards the docks.

(sirens blaring)

(tires screeching)

(screams)

( ominous theme playing)

McGarrett to Central.
McGarrett to Central.

MAN (over radio): Ten-four.

Get me the Harbor
Squad on the double.

(soft music playing)

Can we talk?

Yeah, sure.

You know,

I've been doing a lot of
thinking about my Uncle Charlie.

He was stupid. Really?

And I thought you
liked him, Larry.

Didn't know where it was at.

I mean, nothing
would've happened to him.

You know, even if they did
prove that the swimwear was...

Look at me, nothing
happened to me.

All I had to say
is, "I don't know."

That's all he had to say.

So why the visit?

I, uh... I'd like a few items.

(laughs)

What kind of items?

Uh,

tape recorders,
cassettes. Hey, but listen,

no rough stuff, all right?

How many you need?

Five thousand. That's a lot.

I know, but it's a
promotion thing.

It's Hawaiian music week.
We gotta have it for the kids.

You know, kids and cassettes.

I also know the market.

I know you can get all
the cassettes you want

for 4100 a gross.

Oh, yeah, but it's
gotta be less than that.

I mean, I really
gotta come in cheap.

It's gotta be below cost.

Hey, if you knew how Rogers
was on my back, I mean...

Hey, I gotta come through, Ron.

I don't know,
Larry. I don't know.

I mean, you came to my
party, and you yelled at me.

And now you're telling
me that everything is cool.

See, I just don't know.

You know, before Charlie...

He sent me this.
It's a letter, right?

You know, a kind
of crazy letter.

It jumps all over the
place from here to here.

But the main point,

he says that I should
cool it with you.

And then he mentions... He
mentions the stolen swimwear.

Now, look, this could be
evidence in court, right?

Would you let me see
that? Wait a minute.

All right?

All right?

I'll think about it.

I'll see what I can do.

How'd it go?

He said he'd let me know.

Central, Chin Ho. Patch
me through to McGarrett.

(phone ringing)

McGarrett. Chin, Steve.

Phase one, Operation
Colby complete.

Did Colby bite?

Not sure. He's
thinking about it.

Well, I guess that's all
we can hope for now, Chin.

Is Swift in the taxi?

Yeah, right here.

Swift, I'm sending
the U.S. attorney

and the federal district judge

a full report on
your cooperation.

I'm doing this for another
reason, McGarrett.

I wanna get that guy.

Good luck.

(phone ringing)

Swift speaking.
COLBY: Hello, Larry?

Yes.

This is Ron.

Are you still interested in
those cassette recorders?

Sure. What kind?

How's Tranasonic?

Oh, Tranasonic
will be just fine.

( suspenseful theme playing)

Chin is moving out now, Steve.

He's heading Diamond
Head on Nimitz Highway.

I'm following.

My bus broke down.

I got a sick kid in there.

Can you help me take
him to the hospital?

Yeah, I'll see what I can do.

( suspenseful theme playing)

All right, get your
face on the ground.

You won't get hurt.

Move it!

Move it!

( action theme playing)

Williams to Five-0.

McGarrett. They
pulled the heist.

How'd it go? Chin's okay.

Thank God. Okay, Danno, I've
got everything set at the warehouse.

Now, keep them in sight.

Ten-four.

( suspenseful theme playing)

( action theme playing)

Cassette recorders
for Pan Pacific.

Yeah, I got the invoice
on that. Pull right in.

Thank you.

McGARRETT (over
speaker): Attention.

This is McGarrett,
Hawaii Five-0.

You're surrounded
by an assault squad.

Throw your weapons to the floor.

Put your hands on your head.

If your hands are not on your
head when we reopen the door,

we'll commence firing.

(drops gun)

(drops gun)

Put your hands on your head.

Now walk forward to
the front of the building.

Sergeant, they see
no one, talk to no one,

phone no one.

Danno, we'll need some
men to unload those recorders.

If Colby's M.O. stands up,

there'll be a rented truck
along here to pick them up.

Right.

All right, let's clear the area.

(phone ringing)

Appliances.

Call for you, Mr. Swift.

Who is it, Ann?
Pan Pacific Imports.

Oh... Thank you.

Swift.

How do you like them?

Like what?

The recorders, the Tranasonics.

Oh. Hey, I'll let you
know when I get them.

Are you kidding
me, pal? About what?

Five thousand Tranasonics
delivered to you this morning.

(chuckles)

Not to this store, pal.

This is childish, Larry.
I have the receipts.

Hey, I don't care
what you've got.

Now, they never came here.

You know, I'd look into
it more carefully, Ron.

Maybe somebody
is ripping you off.

(dog barking)

Can I help you?

Yeah.

You can get out the 70 grand.

Oh, these aren't yours,
Colby. I mean, I got these legit.

They're from a regular jobber.

Bull.

You got them from me.

I checked the numbers.

You're entitled to your
opinion, but I say you're wrong.

And what are you
gonna do about it?

You gonna take me to court, huh?

There's a door, Mr. Colby.

You little punk. You
think you can rip me off?

Know what I can do to you
making one telephone call?

I gotta be interested
first. You'll be interested

when you see the
people I send to visit you.

You'll be interested. You
don't scare me, Colby.

Maybe you're too
dumb to be scared.

You should be scared, Larry.

Guys who rip off
trucks and warehouses,

they don't care
much who they bury.

And those guys work for me!

And soon you'll be working

for the state, Colby.

Turn around and put
your hands on your head.

You're under arrest.

Chin.

He's clean.

All your rights
are on this card.

Read them and try not to weep.

I don't need any rights. You
can't hold me on anything.

No?

These are recorders, remember?

COLBY: To be scared.
You should be, Larry.

Guys who rip off
trucks and warehouses

don't care much who they
bury. And those guys work for me!

COLBY: To be scared.
You should be, Larry.

Guys who rip off
trucks and warehouses

don't care much who they
bury. And those guys work for me!

Book him, Danno.

Murder one, grand
theft, for openers.

( triumphant theme playing)

Oh.

Here's a present for your cell.

( upbeat surf theme playing)
