Hawaii Five-O (1968–1980): Season 10, Episode 17 - Tall on the Wave - full transcript

Danno enters a surfing competition to investigate the mysterious death of a competitor's girlfriend, who was apparently two-timing him with another beach king.

DANNY: My name is
Dan Williams, Five-0.

Good, then maybe
something will come of this.

They think it
might be a suicide.

Dead? How?

We found her body below the
cliff trail. It happened last night.

The rulebook says I should
take you off the case, Danny.

You are emotionally involved.
But my instinct says otherwise.

- What are you trying to do to me, bro?
- Trying to cut you loose, Ben.

Off to the right, the red board.

My God, they're gonna kill each
other. We've gotta get to them.

MAN: You're looking
at Ben Hanakea,

one of the few locals that has
the Californians and Australians

worried in today's competition.

You can see where he
got his nickname, Ricochet.

And there's an Australian now,

Roger Divitt, ripping a
clean, classic bottom turn.

The surf conditions are
almost ideal today for this,

the fifth annual Sandy
Beach Pro-Am Surfing Classic.

They're keeping
the judges real busy.

[BLARES]

And that's the horn,
ending the second heat.

Coming up in the third heat,
keep your eye on Gavin McNabb,

a young man from Malibu

who's been doing real well
in the competition today.

Another strong
contender is Stoker Elston,

from Melbourne, Australia.

Last year, Stoker came very
close to winning all the money

in this competition, and he's
back again trying this year.

Gavin McNabb taking off.

McNabb is down.
Couldn't hold the wave.

Up and running again,

Ben Hanakea of Hawaii
with another spectacular ride.

That's gonna
score a lot of points.

Stoker, how are you supposed to
keep your mind on the competition

with all these bikinis around?

Say, Ben, righteous wave.

- Thanks. Hey, you got any extra wax?
- Yeah, here.

Hey, the girls must
really go for this.

Yeah, my own
creation, sweet mango.

You put a little behind your ears
and they tear you right off the board.

Results of the second heat:

Ben Hanakea of Hawaii, first.
Roger Divitt of Australia, second.

Say, Ben, good work.
In the quarterfinals.

See you tomorrow.

- Your wax. GAVIN: Keep it.

Thanks.

Return the favor tomorrow.
Don't drop into my wave.

Say, Gav, there's
plenty of water.

I just wanna tell you what a
fine job you judges are doing,

especially on that last heat.

Would you say that if I told you I
almost scored an Aussie above you?

Hey, that's un-American, Danny.
You gotta support your local surfer.

- Go get them. BEN: Right on.

Hey.

Only first in your heat, huh?

Yeah, they're really cooking
out there. My kind of waves.

- Hey, what you got there?
- It's your mother's birthday present.

BEN: Oh, wow.

- Hey, this must have cost you.
- Nah, I made it.

- She's gonna love it.
- Yeah, well, I like her.

- Well, you ready to go?
- Almost.

I just wanna try out this new
board on a couple of walls.

We're supposed to
be at your folks' house.

Just a half an hour.

Hey, it'll take you that
long just to paddle out,

and I gotta be to work by 4.

I wanna make sure that I tune
up for tomorrow's quarterfinals.

Ben, it's your
mother's birthday.

Why do you always make an excuse

when we're supposed
to be there together?

Honey, we got a shot at $5,000.

I just wanna make sure
this is the right stick to use.

Someday you're gonna
have to make a decision,

me or that surfboard.

[SIGHS]

[SCOFFS]

GAVIN: Hey, friend.

- Long time.
- Hi, Gavin.

Hey, don't you remember? We
had a good thing going last year.

- Yeah, that was last year.
- Well, who is it this time?

I don't feel like talking
right now, all right?

It's not Ben Hanakea?

Bye, Gavin.

I told you this once before,
get your hands off of me.

McGARRETT: Yeah.
- I want my lawyer. Now!

Bringing him in now, chief. I
think I hear that familiar sound.

Yeah, I'll get back to you as
soon as we have our little visit.

Sit down.

[CHARLIE SCOFFS]

Yes, sir. Glad to.

Sit down.

So, what's the charge, McGarrett?
What's the charge against me?

No official charge yet. Just
thought we'd have a little chat.

I got a limited
education, McGarrett.

And you know something?
We don't talk the same language.

Oh, I think we understand
certain words in common,

like "dope," "prostitution,"
"shakedown."

You may not know
how to spell them,

but you sure as hell
know what they mean.

All I know is I don't have
to answer no questions

and I got a right
to call a lawyer.

You're gonna need more than a
lawyer one of these days, Charlie.

You're gonna need a long
rest at the state's expense.

[PHONE RINGS]

- McGarrett. DANNY
[OVER PHONE]: Steve?

McGARRETT: Yeah,
Danno. Where are you?

DANNY: Over on the
North Shore, Sunset Beach.

Got a surfing
contest going here.

Aren't you getting a little
old for that sort of thing?

I'm judging, not competing.

McGARRETT [OVER
PHONE]: Who's winning?

- Smart money's on the surf.
- When are you coming back?

Well, I got another day
here unless you need me.

No, I'll be in the pistol range
qualifying in the morning,

and I'll be down on the boat in
the afternoon in case you need me.

- Don't capsize.
- Don't get wiped out. And, Danno?

Be sure you judge the
surfers, not the bikinis, huh?

Ha, ha. Right.

Okay, Charlie, you can go now,
but figure on coming back soon.

- Charlie?
- What?

Who's your tailor?

[LOUNGE MUSIC PLAYING]

[SIGHS]

Give me two mai tais.

Not exactly your best day, huh?

- You have a fight with Ben?
- This one's serious.

- Cultural differences or the surf?
- Both.

[RINGS]

- Promontory Pub. GAVIN
[OVER PHONE]: Lorca there?

- Who? GAVIN: Is Lorca there?

- Ben, is this you?
- Yeah, yeah, it's Ben.

Yeah, I can't hear you.

- Tell her it's her coconut chaser.
- Hold on a second.

Ben's on the phone.

He said to tell you it's
your coconut chaser.

Coconut chaser? Tell
him I'm busy, would you?

Oh, come on, he just
wants to talk it out.

Okay, tell him I'm
gonna take a break

and I'll see him at
home in a few minutes.

Okay.

Yeah, Ben?

She said to tell you
she's busy right now,

but she'll be home
in a few minutes.

- Yeah, okay.
- Okay, bye-bye.

Go ahead, walk by me
like I'm a parking meter.

Why not? Your time's expired.

Hey, why didn't you
answer my letters?

Because you never wrote
any, and mine came back

after being forwarded to Jane
Corbett in Durban, South Africa,

and Janice somebody
in Marina del Rey.

Mailing addresses, Lor. Look,
it was never like you and me.

I got nobody else. No one.

Oh, you poor thing.

You Malibu types come
on all shy and lonely,

poor little lost
puppies in a bar.

- I was serious, Lor.
- No, you weren't.

You never were.
You don't know how.

Well, you must have
been hurting pretty bad

to pick up with
that no-neck gorilla.

Are you referring to Ben?

Hey.

Look, I'm sorry, all right?
Let's lighten up a little.

It just so happens that
Ben's a decent human being

and I love him,
and next to you...

Don't go comparing
me to that Kanaka.

Gavin, your macho is bleeding,
big surfer type, super stud.

Yeah, you're tall on the waves,
but you're short on the beach.

[LORCA GRUNTING]

[LORCA SCREAMS]

[SIRENS WAILING]

Randy, I'm gonna see what
that's about. Looks serious.

Okay, Carl Pope just showed
up. He can fill in for you.

Good.

YAMA: Looks like she
went off about here.

You can see all the
pebbles are moved around.

Scuffle maybe?

- Do we know her name?
YAMA: Lora Davidson.

Lorca, not Lora.

This is Elaine Sebastian.
They worked together.

DANNY: when was the
last time you saw her?

Are you gonna ask
me more questions?

My name is Dan Williams, Five-0.

Good, then maybe
something will come of this.

They think it
might be a suicide.

DANNY: What do
you think it might be?

- Ask Ben.
- Ben Hanakea?

ELAINE: Yeah, ask him.
They had a fight yesterday.

He called her at work
and she went to meet him,

and that was the
last time I saw her.

YAMA: Danny.

She's got something in her hand.

Looks like a piece of a T-shirt.

We'll let Doc remove it

in case there's
something under her nails.

Okay.

[GUNFIRE]

POLICEMAN: Mr. McGarrett.

Mr. McGarrett.

Thank you.

- McGarrett. DANNY
[OVER PHONE]: Steve?

Why is it whenever I get on a
pistol range, you call me, Danno?

Why is it you always let me
know where you can be reached?

Okay, bull's-eye.
What do you got?

DANNY: Possible
homicide on the North Shore.

A girlfriend of a surfer
named Ben Hanakea.

McGARRETT [OVER
PHONE]: Well, who's he?

The car booster who wanted
to be a detective, remember?

Yeah, but that's an
H.P.D. matter, Danno.

What's that got to do with us?

I know, Steve, but with his
record, it might get complicated.

I'd like to help him if I can.

Well, it's your time.
Go ahead if you want.

HEMMINGS: Close
competition, with Ben Hanakea

taking off from the next wave.

Behind him, Gavin McNabb
looks like he's going for the wave.

It's a terrible wipeout
for Gavin McNabb,

with Ben Hanakea
completing his run.

- Hey, did you see my
last wave? DANNY: Yeah.

Why aren't you up
on that kahuna throne,

giving me a perfect score?

I got something
to tell you, Ben.

You gonna tell me I'm disqualified
because of McNabb wiping out?

He stole that wave, and it ate him
because he was in the wrong place.

It's about Lorca, Ben.

Uh...

She's dead.

Dead?

- How? DANNY: I don't know.

We found her body below the
cliff trail. It happened last night.

I'm sorry.

You seen Hanakea?

Yeah, he's right over
there, talking to the judge.

- You see the way that guy cut me off?
- Man, that was his wave.

Yeah.

BEN: You mean somebody
could have pushed her off?

We don't know.

We did find a piece
of a T-shirt in her hand.

BEN: What kind of
T-shirt? Was it a guy's?

We'll know more after
the lab gets through with it.

- Meanwhile, let's go back to my office.
- Okay.

DANNY: Okay, Ben,
let's go over everything.

You didn't see or talk
to Lorca last night?

No.

Usually after a hassle,
she stayed with Elaine.

Elaine said that you telephoned
Lorca at 6:15 last night.

No, she's mixed up.
Night before, I did.

Last night, I was in the
water till dark. You know that.

- No, I left after the
last heat. DUKE: Danny.

- Doc Bergman, Line 3.
- Thanks, Duke.

Morning, doc.

I see.

Get the fabric over
to Charlie for analysis.

I'll talk to you later.

The fatal injuries were
caused by the impact of the fall.

Gotta find the rest
of that shirt, Duke.

DUKE: H.P.D. is getting
search warrants for the hotel area

and property along the path.

That will include
your place, Ben.

If you think that's my shirt,
man, you're spinning your wheels.

The sooner we find it,
the sooner you're clear.

Danny,

do you think I'd kill the
woman I'm gonna marry?

Ben, nobody here
is ready to think that.

Do you understand? Nobody.

[SIGHS]

You don't need a search
warrant for my place.

Good.

Duke, have H.P.D.
search Ben's place first.

Right.

[LORCA SCREAMS]

Anybody see you leave the area?

I don't know.

Did you talk to anybody
after you got out of the water?

No.

You understand we have to
follow your whereabouts last night,

you know, totally. We
gotta know where you were.

Yeah.

You still interested in
becoming a policeman?

Yeah.

I wanna take one last shot at
professional surfing before I apply.

You can always
stay at my place, Ben,

if there are too many
memories of Lorca at your house.

Might do it, bro.

Turn left here. First house.

- Haven't found anything,
have you? POLICEMAN: Not yet.

We're about to
move down the path

and work our way
back to the hotel there.

Okay.

It's the right color.

Ben.

Is this yours?

Hey. No shooting,
no shooting. Ben!

Ben!

Ben!

KOMA: Hey, what are
you making in there?

Laulau, old-style. You'd
better wash up if you want it hot.

[CAR APPROACHING]

[ENGINE STOPS]

KOMA: What's the matter, Ben?
- Nobody told you?

- No. What have you done?
- I've done nothing.

Lorca's dead. Murdered.

Oh, mercy, God.

- They think you did it?
- It's all crazy.

But I'm gonna find
the guy who did.

She was just here
yesterday. She gave me this.

You were supposed
to be with her.

I was hoping you
would marry her.

[EDITA SOBBING]

BEN: Me too.

I hear a car coming.

[ENGINE STARTS]

Where are you going?

You don't have to lie
about what you don't know.

Koma?

I'm looking for Ben.

KOMA: He's not here.

- Have you seen him?
- Yes.

Was he in that truck?

Look, I got Ben out of one mess.
I'd like the chance to help him again.

- Yeah, he's in the truck.
- Where were they going?

He wouldn't say.

Wherever he's going, he's just
building a case against himself.

When you see him,
make him call me.

Tell him he's not the only
one who thinks he's innocent.

You know where Ben
Hanakea is, don't you?

Yeah, he's looking for ice milk.

- Hey, Looloo.
- Yeah?

- You know where Ricochet went?
- Yeah. He not gonna come back.

He went to a different place.

Heh. Not your place.

Hey, then Ricochet went
to the right place, then?

Oh, for sure.

[BOTH LAUGH]

Hey, saw your truck come
down from Ricochet's place.

You give him ride, bumbye,
maybe you catch plenty jail.

You savvy, bigmouth?

McGARRETT: I think
you should see this.

It was found in a trash can
outside Ben Hanakea's house.

The murderer must
have been leaning over,

and the victim clawed at him.

Oh, perhaps.

But the medical examiner
didn't mention any skin tissue

under the girl's fingernails.

Of course, it's
purely conjecture

that the shirt belonged to
Ben Hanakea in the first place.

Hey, Danno. How'd you
do on the North Shore?

The brothers are
closing ranks. He's there.

- It's just gonna take time to
find him. SUNADA: How much?

Oh, excuse me.

Miss Sunada, my
associate Danny Williams.

Danno, this is Miss Sunada,
our new assistant DA.

- "Ms.," please.
- Sorry.

How do you do? You
assigned to this case?

Yes, I was assigned when
the suspect was in custody,

prematurely, it appears.

Oh, we'll find him, don't worry.

The difficult part is bringing
him in without hurting anyone.

- I understand he's a friend of yours.
- I've known Ben quite a while.

Hmm. What size
T-shirt does he wear?

Same as a lot of other people. I
tend to believe that shirt is not his.

Are you suggesting
he's innocent?

Until proven guilty,
that's the way it works.

Well, shouldn't the APB have included
the words "armed and dangerous"?

No reason to believe he's armed.

But he is a logical suspect,
Danno, and he does have a record.

Resisted arrest every
time they picked him up.

DANNY: He was a scrappy kid.
- Proficient with a knife.

His last offense was six
years ago. People change.

Whether he's innocent
of this crime or not,

he has demonstrated
a conditioned reflex,

a violent response to authority.

The rulebook says I should
take you off the case, Danno.

You are emotionally involved.
But my instinct says otherwise.

If there is anyone who can
talk him in quietly, it's you.

Thanks, Steve.

But I think you should
know that Chin and Duke

will be working on
other angles of this case.

I understand.

Nice to meet you, ms.

[KNOCKING]

BEN: It's open. Just
leave them on the table.

[SCREAMS]

It's only me, Elaine. Relax,
relax. I need your help.

If you'll calm
down, I'll let you go.

[ELAINE GRUNTING]

The police, they told me that I
called Lorca at work yesterday.

I was on a surfboard
a half-mile offshore.

- You couldn't have talked to me.
- But it sounded like you, Ben.

How could you believe that I
would do anything to hurt Lorca?

I loved her.

Elaine, you gotta help me.

- Did she talk to him?
- No, she couldn't.

She told me to tell him

she was going right
home after her break.

- Ben, who could it be?
- I don't know, but I'll find out.

Did she have
anybody on the side?

- Ben, you know better than that.
- A drunk or a heavy breather?

I doubt it. They
didn't bother her.

She got off work before the bar closed,
and she went straight home to you.

There must have been somebody
else. Somebody called her.

But who?

Look, uh, I gotta
go back to work.

Yeah, yeah.

Listen, if you
find out anything,

you leave a note at the
Water and Power, okay?

I will.

Thank you.

[PHONE RINGS]

- Williams. ELAINE
[OVER PHONE]: It's Elaine.

Look, I may have
made a big mistake.

- What do you mean? ELAINE:
Well, I've just talked to Ben.

- Is he okay?
- Yes, but after talking to him...

DANNY [OVER PHONE]: What?

Well, I don't think he
made that phone call.

- Where is he? How can I reach him?
- Well...

Oh, maybe I
shouldn't have called.

Elaine, you'll be helping Ben
by telling me how to reach him.

DANNY: Don't you see
the trouble he can get into?

- But...
- Look, we all want the same answers.

Okay.

- Steve?
- Yeah, Danno?

I just got a call from
Elaine Sebastian,

the girl who said Ben called
Lorca at the hotel the night she died.

- Now she's changed her mind.
- Why?

Ben came to see her.

Apparently he convinced
her she was wrong.

Does she know
where we can find Ben?

No, but I do, because he
told Elaine to leave a message

at the Water and Power board.

Well, you stake the place out,
Danno. Leave the message.

- You get all the help you need.
- Uh, Steve, I'd rather, uh, do it alone.

Ben, uh, may even be armed,

and you know what
a hothead he can be.

What makes you think he
won't take a shot at you?

I try to think positively.

That's good, think
positively. I'm all for that.

- But carry a big stick.
- All the time.

- All right. Ah. GUIDE: Oh.

[ENGINE STARTS]

DANNY: Ben! Ben!

[TIRES SQUEALING]

Ben, you're not doing
yourself any good.

Let's talk.

Ben!

MAN: Hey, come back
here with my board. Hey!

Ben, you're not doing
any good on your own.

If you'd stop wasting my
time chasing you around,

I could be tracking down the
guy who really killed Lorca.

Ben.

You're making
yourself look so guilty,

they don't even think
there is another guy.

Ben, let's put it together.

BEN: Back off, guys.

- Let's do it, brother.
- Okay.

Steve, I have just devoted a day
of my life to the study of surfing wax.

Well, that should make you the leading
authority on wax, shouldn't it, Charlie?

Do you know what
they use this for, Steve?

Sure, surfers rub it on their
boards so their feet won't slip, right?

Right. There are several types.

Their consistency varies according
to preference and water temperature.

As you can see, there's a variety
of shapes, colors and fragrance.

Fragrance?

You mean surfers want
their boards to smell good?

- Ha, ha.
- Ha, ha. Apparently.

At any rate,

I found that the yellow substance
under the victim's fingernails is wax

from the right front side of this
T-shirt, but I don't know how it got there.

Probably from carrying a board.

On hot days, some guys don't
want their wax exposed to the sun.

Danno, what kind of wax
does Ben use, do you know?

Most of the locals
use this, clear paraffin.

It's as good as
anything else, costs less.

I wish I could be
more helpful, Steve,

but my only conclusion is
that you're looking for surf wax

that's probably homemade
or put up in small quantities.

We've got a lot
of checking to do,

so let's start with the
surfboards at that contest, huh?

It's been postponed because of winds,
but I'll check the dorms and the hotels.

McGARRETT: And
don't forget Ben's home.

Right.

McGARRETT: Good work, Charlie.

[INAUDlBLE DIALOGUE]

[INAUDlBLE DIALOGUE]

[LOUNGE MUSIC PLAYING]

[GAVIN SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY]

[DIVITT LAUGHS]

All right.

Hey, now. Ooh-ie,
what have we here?

Your beverage, counselor.
What'll it be, mate?

How did you know
he was a down-under?

Wild guess.

Well, it's real easy when you
smell like a kangaroo, Rog.

- Beer, please.
- Hey, brew for me too.

Another beer, please.

Hey, what part of
California are you from?

- Northern.
- Monterey.

- No, further north.
- San Francisco.

Seattle.

- Seattle, California?
ELAINE: Yeah.

[STOKER CLEARS THROAT]

STOKER: We were in here last
year, weren't we, late one night?

Could be. I've gotten
ripped here more than once.

DIVITT: Hey, Gav, didn't
you have some nice lady

tucked away in
this neighborhood?

Laura somebody, wasn't it?

That's right, Laura.
That was a long time ago.

Hey, Gav, whatever
happened to her?

Well, I was aced out
by some coconut chaser.

[STOKER CHUCKLES]

Yeah, ha, ha. Yeah.

- Oh. Easy, Seattle.
- I'm sorry, these sandals are a hazard.

We could smooth that over
with a couple of surfing lessons.

Yeah, I used to
bodysurf at Makapuu.

You certainly have the
right equipment for that.

Look, I've got some
orders double-parked.

Yes, please connect me
with Hawaii Five-0, and hurry.

[RINGS]

One moment, please.

- Danny, for you.
- Thank you, Lani.

Oh, it's nothing important.

Hello? Who is this?

Well, when she comes back in,
have her call Elaine Sebastian.

Thank you.

The sponsors of our contest
are throwing us a little luau tonight,

and I would be more than happy
to provide you with an escort.

Oh, well, wish I could, but
I'm going to Honolulu tonight.

GAVIN: Uh-huh.

Well, I'm sure it'll be
going on tomorrow night.

Well, I get off at 9
if that's not too late.

No, that's great.
I'll pick you up here.

ELAINE: No, no, no, I'll
pick you up. I wanna change.

Besides, you'd
never find my place.

- Where are you staying?
- A little place on Sunset Beach.

- The Barn? GAVIN: Yeah.

- Yeah, I know it. GAVIN: Right.

- Oh, the name's Gavin McNabb.
- Oh, Elaine Sebastian. Nine-thirty?

DANNY: Ben? BEN:
Hey. How you doing?

Better yet, how am I doing?

DANNY: We'd like to ask
you a couple questions.

- Fire away.
- This wax belong to you?

- No.
- Found it in your swimsuit.

And on your board.

Well, I may have borrowed some.

Wait a minute.

He made it himself. Uh...

McNabb.

He's the one. That's the
man you're looking for.

McNabb.

Wax from this cake was on the
T-shirt we found at your place.

BEN: But it was not my T-shirt.

I don't know where it came
from, but it wasn't my T-shirt.

- What are you trying to do to me, bro?
- Trying to cut you loose, Ben.

But the evidence keeps
stacking up the other way.

What evidence?!
Some borrowed wax?

Listen!

I'm telling you, the wax
belongs to a guy from California

named McNabb.

Find him. He's your man.

BEN: Okay, Ben,
we'll talk to him.

You don't believe me.

Danny! Danny!

Where's the help you
were gonna give me?

LANI: Danny? Steve
wants to see you wiki wiki.

Thank you, Lani.

Come on in, Danno.

Elaine thinks she knows
who made that call.

ELAINE: A surfer I overheard at the
bar used the expression "coconut chaser,"

and so did the caller.

And after thinking about it, I don't
think Ben would refer to himself that way.

- Who's the surfer?
- Gavin McNabb.

McNabb.

Ben said the wax the
lab found on the T-shirt

is exactly the same kind of
wax he borrowed from McNabb.

Can we prove that?

I don't know, but it fits in
exactly with what Elaine's saying.

Well, I think we ought to
have a talk with Mr. McNabb.

If we can establish a prior
relationship between Lorca and McNabb,

that could do it.

Mr. Williams, you still think
your friend Ben is innocent?

- I know he's innocent.
- Really?

Then it might interest you
to know he's just escaped.

Excuse me, could I have a peek?

My boyfriend took an awful
wipeout, and I wanna see if he's okay.

Sure, go ahead.

[CROWD WHISTLING AND CHEERING]

Are you sure McNabb
is here today, Danno?

He's gotta be Steve.
He's leading this heat.

Off to the right, the red board.

My God, they're gonna kill each
other. We've gotta get to them.

- Can we get out to them somehow?
- I don't know.

- Randy, can you get a boat out there?
- No way, surf's too heavy.

There's lifeguards out
there on longboards.

Pass that bullhorn over, please.

Thanks, Fred.
Lifeguards. Lifeguards.

Rescue, rescue. Man
unconscious inside the lineup.

- Tell them a little more to the right.
- Further right.

Have you got your
walkie-talkie with you?

- Yeah.
- Keep in radio contact.

Excuse me. Excuse me.

[ENGINE STARTS]

Get away from me.

- Wanna know what happened?
- I know. Now let me out of here.

- It wasn't my fault. She slipped.
- Get over there.

Look, I don't want you running
out of here screaming murder.

Lorca and I... Unh!

[SCREAMING]

- Hurry. Help me. Please.
- Now you see how easy it was.

I didn't want her to go over. I hit
her, but I didn't want her to go over.

I believe you, I swear I do.

- Please, I believe you.
- Sure you do.

That's why you were
helping the police, right?

I wish I didn't have to do this.

McGARRETT: Hold it!

Stand.

Put your hands on your head.

Move.

- Duke.
- Hold it.

Hands against the rocks.

[ELAINE GASPING]

McGARRETT: Come on.

[ELAINE GRUNTING]

[ELAINE GROANS]

Are you all right?

ELAINE: Yeah, I think so.

This is why he was after me.

No, Ben, easy.
He's ours. Hold it.

All right. Book him, Duke.

Suspicion of manslaughter
and attempted murder.

- As for you, I have a couple...
BEN: You don't have to tell me.

You know, the assistant DA
doesn't take easily to jailbreaks.

Neither does the police academy.

Maybe I can prevail upon Miss...
Ms. Sunada to forget the whole thing.

If you're serious about
the police academy,

a recommendation from your
friend Danny Williams might help.

I don't know, Steve. He
stolen a lot of waves off of me.

Yeah.

And a second recommendation
from a tough old Irish cop I know

wouldn't hurt either.

That's practically
a scholarship, Ben.

Thank you, Mr. McGarrett.

You'll never regret it.
