Gold Rush: The Dirt (2012–…): Season 5, Episode 9 - The Lieutenants - full transcript

Tonight on "The dirt,".

The top lieutenants
From all three mining crews.

Arrive in force...

They must've known
We were coming.

To reveal what's really
Gone down this season...

I can't believe you let
All your secrets out of the bag.

Without their bosses Looking on.

I mean, I love rick,
But we can talk behind his back.

Yeah, I love it. Let's do it.

Christo First, mitch
And doumitt let it slip.

That parker may be
Back to his old ways.

The door would slam,
Gravel would fly,

And you're just like,
"Here we go again."

Parker Turn this Belt off!

Christo But they agree that,
Sometimes,

Parker's rage is justified.

When it's human error,
Somebody deserves to,

You know, get a strip
Ripped off of them.

Then kevin and juan
Give the inside scoop.

On the crazy viking...

A lot of what he says goes in
One ear, right out the other.

Christo And are bold enough
To actually do.

Their best impression
Of their boss, tony beets.

We have to make it Happening.

A.S.P.

Back it up, back it up,
Back it up.

Christo Next, terry and zee
Arrive on set dressed to kill.

I did wear
My leopard underwear today.

My...

Christo They share
What they missed most.

About being away from home,

And it wasn't their families.

- Cheesesteak.
- Cheesesteak, yeah.

Christo Finally, I do my best
To keep control.

Of our biggest and most
Unpredictable round table yet.

It's gonna deteriorate.
The wheels are coming off.

Zee, it'd be a lot
Different sitting here.

If you guys Had 7 ounces.

Yeah, they probably wouldn't
Have done our makeup.

Then, stick around
For a sneak peek.

Of tonight's brand-new episode
Of "Gold rush"...

Mother.

Hit the Water line.

Hey! Shut it off!

Man Holy.

Followed by an all-new
"Gold rush White water."

There's bears
Watching us right now.

We got to get
That small dredge up.

Up, up. Stop.

Whoa. Yo!

It's time to clear the air.

I run strawberry air fresheners
In my truck.

This is "The dirt."

Captions paid for by
Discovery communications.

Hey, there they are.

- Hey!
- Welcome!

So, mitch,
Welcome to "The dirt."

Yeah. Glad to have you back.

I see you're here
Without parker and cristal.

That's kind of cool.

This will be
Quick and easy, yeah?

Yeah. Pretty painless.

I'm not quite sure
What you want to talk about,

But I think we're done.

Thanks for stopping by.

All right, that's a wrap.
Thanks, you guys.

Awesome. We'll see you later.

See you next year.

- Chris, mitch, good to see you.
- How's it going?

Christo Great to have
You guys back on "The dirt."

So, look, tonight,

We're having a little special
Episode here of "The dirt."

We are talking
To all the lieutenants.

We want to get the inside scoop
From you guys.

On all kinds of stuff.

So, when we last talked,
We talked about the fact.

That parker has basically
Turned over a new leaf.

But I got to be honest...

He still seems a little
Rough around the edges.

You've had five days
To get this done.

I did not hire you On the basis.

That you didn't know how
To drive one of these things.

Chris Well, I think they
Catch him at those points.

What they're not capturing
Is when he comes around.

And the guys are going,
"Hey, how's it going?"

- yeah.
- "You want anything?"

They're not Picking up on that.

Well, parker's still
A work in progress.

I mean, he definitely
Still would have his times.

Where he'd blow up.

But that used to happen
Every day a bunch,

And so you guys never even
Saw a lot of that.

That just All hit the floor.

Right. Right, right, right.

Well, so now, yeah,
That still happens,

But they're having to go Kind of
search for that And look for that.

Instead of it just
Being in every scene.

I saw him chew out
A couple people,

And, man, he wouldn't get
Back to his pick-up.

And he'd turn around
And come back and apologize.

And try and Set things straight.

I'm sorry for doubting you, man.
Like, good job.

Before, the door would slam,
Gravel would fly,

And you're just like,
"Here we go again."

Yeah. How do you think.

He handled the dean situation
A few weeks ago?

He might have been
A little coarse, too coarse,

But he has to be firm, Right?

If the foreman's Falling down,

You got to get him back up
And going again.

I mean, there were definitely
Shades of old parker.

Let's take A quick look at it.

You must be joking.

Turn this Belt off!

What the dean?

Nobody told me
I was running the plant.

What do you mean,
Nobody told you.

You were Running the plant?

You're running
A mine site, dean.

I didn't realize that I was
Taking care of the fuel.

I need you to start
Being a foreman.

You don't think I'm doing it?

What do you think? Justified?

The way I see that,
When things break.

And it's a "It just broke
Because something failed".

And he would've gone
And chewed him out,

Hey, you know, that's kind of
Out of that guy's control.

But when it's human error,
Somebody deserves to,

You know, get a strip
Ripped off of them,

'cause you can't have that
Happening every day.

All right, let's talk
About the drop down.

That almost killed you
On sluicifer.

Parker Whoa! Chris!

I had to watch it, like,
Three or four times.

To try and figure out
What happened.

It's really hard to tell how
That happened. Explain it to us.

The sluicifer is lowered
Hydraulically.

There's a lever on the winch
That engages it in gears,

Or you can turn that lever
To free-spool.

It just... the cable
Just comes off.

Somehow, someway,

That lever was turned almost
Completely to free-spool.

So I was able
To raise the sluice box,

Disconnect the chains.

But when I went to lower it,
It tripped into free-spool,

And it came down and folded
That thing like a taco shell.

What the hell was that?

I mean, what would happen if
Someone's foot was under that?

It would've been gone.

I mean, you're talking
Tons of dirt.

Probably 3,000 pounds
With all the concentrate in it.

How happy was parker
That you fixed that thing?

At first, he was just like,
"Dude, this is a lost cause.

Don't even Waste your time."

And, you know, To be honest,

I was thinking
The exact, same thing.

But, no, we just started
Anchoring things down,

Putting a bunch of heat
And a bunch of pressure to it,

And just kind of watching
How it reacted.

So you basically just
Bent it back into shape?

Yeah.

Mitch We got it.

It's not perfect.
The sides still have.

A little bit of
A ripple in them.

But, man, the floor, we were
Actually able to get back.

Right on the money.

Right. Now, chris, you have...

Correct me If I'm wrong...

You've cleaned all of the gold
This season yourself?

3,100 ounces so far.

So far.

That's a lot Of gold cleaning.

That's a lot of gold, Yeah.

Well, you gave us
A first-hand look.

At your gold-cleaning Operation.

It's pretty impressive.
Let's take a look.

Christo Over the years,
Our cameras have covered.

Just about every square inch
Of parker's mine sites.

Back the up.

You guys must be bored.

But he's never allowed us.

Inside his gold room, Until now.

So, welcome To the jig room.

It's just another wash plant,
Just smaller.

Doumitt's first step...

Load concentrate Into the jig.

To start the process of
Separating dirt from gold.

Chris You can see
The pulsation there,

With the little steel ball
Bearings opening and closing,

Letting the gold and
Heavy material fall through.

If you look here,

It's the same material
As a sluice box.

We're catching it again
And catch it again.

And you can see
The nuggets in here.

And now we'll take
This concentrate,

And from here, it goes into
The finishing room.

Come on.
I'll show you how it works.

So, this is The finishing room.

Fully insulated, heated.

So, what we have now is just
Another sluice box, smaller.

Okay, smaller and smaller
And smaller,

Cleaner and cleaner.

Christo As the concentrate
Cascades through the layers,

The gold gets caught
And the dirt washes away,

Further cleaning the gold.

Chris It's becoming
More and more gold,

Less and less dirt.

We're gonna take the concentrate
From the gold cube.

To the rod mill.

Okay, here we go, yeah.

Add some water.

And what this is gonna do.

Is it's gonna pulverize
Everything but gold.

Gold, being soft, Won't crush.

It'll only flatten.

Everything is done
Over or in something.

So, we transfer this gold
From the screen to the pan.

Christo The next stop...
The custom-made finishing table.

Chris At this table, By design,

Heavy things will go uphill...
Like gold...

And all the light stuff...
Dirt... will go downhill.

This is the final
Cleaning stage.

Christo So, how does
Doumitt kill time.

While the finishing table
Cranks out gold?

Chris You always want
To have a 3-wood around.

Christo By working on
His golf swing, of course.

Made the coarse tailings
On that one.

Aw.

No.

Cut.

Let's go dry some gold.

You always,
Always dry gold outside,

Never inside.

It lets off A poisonous gas,

And you will mess yourself up
If you don't.

Christo Some quick heat
To burn off the water,

And we're ready to pull the
Final impurities from the gold.

With a magnet.

Chris Just gonna go ahead
And... Pour that in there.

And there you go.
How simple is that, right?

You could spend a day
Cleaning gold.

Anybody can do it.

That makes The tailing pile.

Wow. Pretty cool.

Guy's mouthy, Isn't he?

I can't believe
You let all your secrets.

Out of the bag. Well, well...

I don't think
There's a single shot.

In that whole thing
Where you don't have a cigar.

Well, yeah,
They told me to do that.

Yeah, right.

Have you ever had so many toys,
Like, in a gold room?

It seems like you've got pretty
Much everything you could need.

Yeah, we got
Some cool stuff now.

We've had Most of this stuff.

It's just, because of
The canvas tents.

And the lack of room And stuff,

You really couldn't
Work it efficiently.

Now, how long does The process
take, Start to finish?

From the time
We clean the sluice.

Till it's in the jar.

Is probably about
Eight or nine hours.

- Really?
- Yeah.

It used to be 20 to 26 hours.

So all the equipment Helps you.

The way it's set up
Really helps, yeah.

I mean, it seems like
There's a lot.

That could go wrong
In there, too, right?

I mean, you could really
Screw things up.

Yeah. The way I explain it is,

If brennan dumps a bucketful
Of dirt out of a truck,

It's no big deal, Really.

Once you get Into the gold room,

A shovelful Can be expensive.

Once you get
Into the finishing room,

A teaspoon could be
Veryexpensive.

Are you ever Jealous of him.

In that nice room,
Just sitting there?

Out of the snow And the rain?

He has a lake view.

Yeah, everybody goes down
And visits doumitt, for sure,

'cause it's so nice
To see the outcome.

Of all the work You're doing.

When you need
A little pick-me-up,

You go down there
And actually see the gold.

Exactly. You're like, "Man,
We had a really rough week,".

And then you Go down there,

And if doumitt's got
A couple jars lined up,

Then it was All worth it.

Christo I sit down
With tony beets' top guys,

Kevin and juan,

And get eyes on the coolest
Piece of equipment.

We've ever seen On "The dirt."

It's got to be
The highest-tech tool.

You guys have ever had
Up there, right?

Yeah. Christo Then, I put.

Lieutenants zee and terry
On the spot.

About rick's sketchy fix
Of the trommel.

Do you think
It actually was genius,

Or do you think Rick got lucky?

Thank you.

I'm hurtin', I'm hurtin'.
I'm hurtin'.

Man Rolling.
Okay, three, two, one.

Go, christo.

Good to see you, man, Kevin.

- Same, same.
- Juan.

Nice to see you again. See you again.

We have you guys on.

Because you guys have
Had to interact a ton.

This season, right?

How's that going, Kevin?

I think, honestly, Pretty good.

I help juan out,
Juan helps me out.

We've been keeping
Everything running.

So, is it taking a lot of
Pressure off you to have juan?

It's been amazing helpful.

Because you can focus on
Gold mining and not fixing.

Focus on the plants
And keeping everything going.

Now, juan, what's it
Been like for you,

Interacting with
The beets family?

It's been good.

They're a very
Tight-knit family.

I like that.
It's got a good feel.

And everyone knows what
They're doing, you know?

And it's just,
They go and they attack it.

I mean, this year, you have
Multiple operations going.

Has the beets family Ever had.

This much going on
In one season?

Honestly, no.

Even dredge one move
Wasn't this hectic,

Because that was
A lot of trucking.

Right.

There was no boats involved,
No flying.

Everything Was within reach.

Like, this year And years past,

It's just been getting bigger
And bigger and bigger.

All right, so,
Moving to dredge two,

Which has been
Major, major issue,

But you guys are finally
Getting the last pieces out.

How does that feel?

Amazing, honestly.

It's a load off.

Well, you know,
Like you mentioned before,

For us to go to thistle
And take that apart,

We're gone For a full day.

Yeah. So, now that it's there,

We're gonna be able
To assemble it there.

We're still there.

If things break down,
I can still pull off.

And go out and do other repairs
That we need to do,

So it's gonna be a big help
Having it all there.

Now we'll actually be able
To start putting it together.

How involved are you
In dredge two?

Honestly, very little.

Right, 'cause
You're back in eureka.

But does tony always
Leave one of you back there,

Make sure the plants
Are running?

Yeah. At the end of the day,

You got to have something
To show for it.

You got to have
Some money in the bank.

Don't you mean,
"On the end of the day"?

- Yes?
- Like your dad says?

Maybe?

"On the end of the day,

We have to make it Happening."

A.S.P.A.S.P.

Juan, do you have
A list of tony-isms?

The one I like Is "Back it up."

He always Gets on the radio.

When he's guiding someone in
On a trailer,

Or even cranes or whatever.
He always says...

And really, really fast
On the radio.

Now, what about you?

Back it up, back it up.

You probably don't even
Hear them anymore.

No, they just go in one ear,
Right out the other.

If tony had a biography,
What would it be called?

There's got to be an "F" word
In there somewhere.

Probably.

"Sucks to be you"? That's good.

Actually, that's a good one.
That's probably what it'd be.

- "Sucks to be you."
- "Sucks to be you."

Juan, you brought
A really cool toy.

Up to the yukon This year.

That I think
Helped you guys out,

Rescued you guys
A bunch of times.

Let's take a look At it.

So, up here In the yukon,

We don't have
A whole lot of resources.

You gotta bring your own.

This year,
I brought a plasma table.

It's a technology that's
Been out for a long time,

But it's not something that
You would typically have.

On a site like this.

So, this is the table itself.

What it is... we just
Filled it up with water.

This water actually helps cool
The steel as we're cutting,

And also helps keep down
The dust and the smoke.

In the room here.

It's a computerized table.

That it'll actually cut
Whatever you want.

You program it
Into the computer,

And it'll cut it out.

So, I can design
Here on the computer,

Send it over to the table,

And it'll cut
Whatever I want out.

Right now, I'm actually working
On a kind of important project.

What I'm gonna do
Is get the torch lined up.

On the plate We're gonna cut.

It's actually a plasma arc,

So it has a plasma cutter
That's hooked up to a gantry...

Basically, just hooked up
To the computer...

And the computer will go out.

And cut patterns,
Whatever you want.

So, program zero,
It's ready to cut now.

It's a super-heated gas,
So it uses compressed air...

So, basically, just
A regular air compressor,

And then the electricity...

And it super-heats a gas,
And it actually...

That's what it uses
To cut the steel.

Anything on sheet steel
Up to one inch,

It'll cut out.

Honestly,
It's saved a ton of time.

You know, just cutting out
Brackets or building parts,

Typically, you have
To do that by hand,

And they're not Real precise.

With this, I'm able just
To design them, cut them out,

And they're ready to go,
And they're perfect every time.

There it is... "The dirt."

Probably the hardest project
I've had to do this year.

That thing's amazing.

It's got to be
The highest-tech tool.

You guys have ever
Had up there, right?

- I think so. Yeah.
- Yeah, probably so.

How much time
Does that save you?

You know, Time is money,

And it's never more true
Than on a gold claim, right?

Every minute, 25 bucks.

I did the math. Really?

Assuming you get
An ounce an hour,

It's 25 bucks a minute.

So if juan does that
In half an hour.

Versus four hours...?

That's a lot you save
Right there.

Yeah, it's a lot of money
Right there.

It adds up.

All right,
Let's switch gears, kevin.

In tonight's episode,

You guys get
Another plant running.

Is this A desperate move?

I wouldn't Say "Desperate,".

But we really want
To make a strong push.

To see if we can get
That 6,000 ounces.

So we're gonna run something
That we know works.

But is it
Stressful times now, juan?

It's always stressful.
The whole season's stressful.

We only have A limited time,

So we do as much as we can
During that time.

You really feel
That ticking clock.

- Yeah, it is.
- Yeah.

Like, does tony
Feel that stress?

Doesn't seem Like he does.

Tony gets it, you know?
He knows things happen.

He doesn't Expect miracles.

He just expects people
To do a good day's work.

He doesn't say, "Things happen"?

When happens?

Yeah, There's a lot of...

A lot of bleeps in there.

Yeah, well, we'll see tonight
If this new plant.

Gets you guys Back on track.

We'll find out.

Next, rick's lieutenants,

Zee and terry,
Are on the hot seat...

Woman All right, What you got?

Christo And things
Get interesting.

Right out of the gate.

Let's get weird. How weird?

I did wear
My leopard underwear today.

See? Already getting weird.

Man We're rolling.
Three, two, one.

Go, christo.

Guys, welcome back
To "The dirt."

Thanks.

It's fun to have you here
Without rick.

I mean, I love rick,

But we can talk Behind his back.

What do you think?

Yeah, I love it. Let's do it.

So, give me The inside scoop.

What's it been like
Working for him?

I think he's a good boss,

But it was tough
In the beginning.

With the disorganization,
The late start that we had.

Do you have a wash plant?

No.

Don't even Have one lined up?

No, not at all.

Zee, were you worried about
Working for a friend?

Definitely. I mean,
It's one of those things.

Where hanging out with someone
And working for someone.

Is two different things.

So, as a friend, zee,

When he doesn't have
The wash plant,

How are you approaching
The situation?

I was definitely
Scratching my head.

I think we all were, Though.

And, yeah, I'm scratching
My head,

Trying to come up
With a plan, too.

The whole time when
We were going up there,

It was pretty much
Just me thinking that,

"I don't think Rick was gonna.

Take us into a situation
To fail,".

So as much as we scratched
Our heads on things,

I think, In the long run,

We all thought
It would still work out.

Terry Just lasted
A little longer.

Than we wanted it to, You know?

We were getting
A little nervous.

But you guys gave him
A little bit longer leash.

Knowing that, one,
He dealt with his mother...

Yep.

And, two, That he's a friend.

- Yep. Exactly right.
- Yeah.

Now, zee is known
As the comedian, right?

Absolutely.

But, zee, does that get,
Like, crushed.

By the monotony
Of mining early on,

Or are you able to keep
That comic relief going?

I thought I did pretty good.

At keeping it going All year.

You did pretty good.

Zee Hey, can one of you guys
Give me a hand?

I got major blockage.

Not in my penile...
But also in my penile,

But also in the pre-wash.

What are you doing to try
To keep yourself sane?

- There was a lot of singing.
- A lot of singing.

A lot of singing,
A lot of music.

And, "What would you eat
Right now if you could?"

We'd play that game
Almost every day.

Yeah.

Because you're Fantasizing.

About food In the lower 48.

- Correct.
- What was the go-to meal?

What did most people
Fantasize about?

Well, we shared Cheesesteak.

Cheesesteak, yeah.

Cheesesteak.

Cheesesteak. Cheesesteak,

Yeah.

It was more restaurants
Back home, I think,

What it came down to.

Like, I don't know,

We all have, like,
An italian restaurant...

Like, our favorite italian
Restaurant or something.

So that was kind of what
We'd think about.

Now, are you missing
These restaurants.

More than your kids? Be honest.

Maybe that cheesesteak.

Cheesesteak.

But then it's my kids
After that.

- You're a pig.
- Yeah, I know I'm a pig.

A day in the life.

Of the funniest miner
On rick's claim, zee.

And zee and terry reveal.

Just how close
The crew was to a mutiny.

After rick dropped the ball.

It was pretty Disheartening.

You know, we needed
To implement a fix,

And fast.

Christo Then, I get
All the lieutenants together.

For one big round table,
And things get a little awkward.

What's your impression
Of rick's crew.

As rookies out there?

So, you're big tv stars now.
You getting recognized?

- Rick usually does.
- Yeah.

And then they go, "You guys."

"You guys. You're..."

I got recognized
At the grocery store.

That's kind of What I get.

So, last week,
You guys discovered,

Much to your dismay,
That durt reynolds.

Was actually Losing gold.

Well, we got sluice issues.

Looks like
Inch-and-a-half holes.

I never even noticed them.

I guarantee you're losing gold.
Really?

I can't imagine you guys
Are up there for,

You know, weeks,
Working your butts off,

And to know that all the gold
Could be in the tailings?

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

Terry It was pretty
Disheartening.

You know, we needed
To implement a fix.

And fast.

I mean, there's got
To be some anger,

And then you guys
Quickly move on, right?

Yeah.
We just wanted to run, man.

Like, at that point,
We just want, like,

A solid week Of running.

- With no issues.
- Without a problem.

Sluicing And getting gold.

And rick comes up
With a pretty good fix,

But when he gets back from town,
You're not buying it.

Yeah, I was a little
Skeptical of it.

Why?

So, what we did was,

Instead of welding
All those holes.

To make a smaller diameter
On the trommel,

We decided to put screens
From a screen plant.

And wrap the outside
Of the trommel.

Fire it up!

I was pretty convinced,

Because there's still
Always a gap in there,

That we were just
Gonna jam that full.

Do you think
It actually was genius,

Or do you think Rick got lucky?

Looks like it's working
Pretty damn good to me.

My theory is, He got lucky.

Lucky or not, it worked,
And we were just relieved,

You know, that something
Went right for us.

I don't care whose idea it was.
I don't care who was right.

Yeah, and it saved us
Two weeks, probably.

Yeah, which is A lot of money.

Yeah. Yeah.

All right, for all the young,
Aspiring gold miners out there,

We thought we'd take a look
At a big, bad gold miner.

In this case,
That would be this guy.

This is a day in the life
Of you, zee.

Boy.

Let's take a look.

Christo Morning in the yukon.

It's a serene time filled.

With the beauty and solitude
Of nature.

And up here,

It lasts all of
About five minutes.

My alarm goes off at 540.

I like a little bit of me-time
In the morning.

I need a good 20 minutes,
Usually,

Of just sitting
And enjoying my coffee...

Kind of get in the right
Mind-set for the day.

Get to the cut about 645,
Do a spot check of the loader...

Man Hey, zee,
You feel like you got this?

Yep.

And load

200 buckets of pay dirt
Into the wash plant.

So that's all day,
And that's pretty much.

The whole middle of the day,
Is nothing except loading.

Christo You might think
That doing the same thing.

Day in and day out
For months on end.

Would get unbearably boring...

And you'd be right.

It's very monotonous.

All you're doing is moving dirt
For 12, 13 hours a day,

And it's just dirt.

Just dirt, dirt, dirt.

Terrible. You're always dirty.

You're always dusty.

It's a little rough.

I guess I thought it wasn't
Gonna be as boring as it is.

It's very monotonous.

Just kind of...

Just very monot...

Very monotonous.

Christo After living this life
For the last three months,

Zee has some advice for those.

Dreaming of a career
In gold-mining.

Keep your day job.

If you even remotely
Like your job...

Stick with it.

You don't want to end up
Doing this.

It's not as glamorous
As it seems.

- Good lord, zee.
- Man.

Does that capture it
A little bit?

Pretty much.

Are you scarred?
Do you have p.T.S.D.?

I haven't Seen a loader since,

But I don't know
What's gonna happen.

If I do see one.

Christo We've never had.

The top lieutenants
From all three claims.

In the same place
At the same time.

Zee This isn't
My first time on tv.

I was on two episodes Of "Cops."

There's no way I'm letting
This motley crew leave.

Before we sit down
For one big, awkward,

Round-table discussion.

Still gaze into doumitt's eyes.
I like it.

- Let's do it.
- Three, two, one.

Producer Go, christo.

All right, guys,
I know it's a little crowded.

We got a lot of man
Here at this table,

You know, but I thought
It'd be great to get.

All the lieutenants Together.

I don't really know
What's gonna happen here,

- But let's just wing it.
- Yeah.

You guys are kind of
The elder statesmen here.

You been on "Gold rush" forever.

You must know what these guys
Are going through,

As, you know,
First timers out there.

What advice would you
Give these two?

Get out While you're young.

Before you have
To have back surgery.

Yeah, exactly.

Just have fun at it.

If you enjoy What you do,

You will never work a day
In your life.

Well, I don't think
You have to tell them.

To have fun at it.

You might have to tell them
To get more serious at it.

You bitch.

You've got your own.

Get out of here.

Woman We should
Get rick riding your bike.

No, rick's gonna Break my bike.

Raise your hand if you want
To blow something up.

Whoo!

Mitch, what's your impression
Of rick's crew,

You know, As rookies out there?

They're giving it, For sure.

Definitely got some
First-time struggles,

But that's To be expected.

Right, right, Learning curve.

Yeah, a huge Learning curve.

But, I mean, you look back at
The hoffmans the first season.

I mean, you were there
With them, chris,

And everybody's got
To start somewhere.

Are you guys impressed
With how much gold.

They've gotten already?

I mean, I think they're
At, like, roughly,

Around 700 ounces Right now.

Not bad for Your first year.

Anything is good
For the first year.

Yeah, I mean, you look...
It took the hoffmans.

Up until season three
To get, what, over 800,

So, you know,
If you're clipping as 700,

That's not bad at all.
You guys are doing good.

Still got a little bit
Of time left, too.

- Yay.
- Look at that.

You guys get the high marks
From the veterans here.

- Right on. Yeah.
- Right?

How do you guys think
You're doing?

I don't know.
I felt pretty good about it.

It also felt like.

Anything could happen
At any moment.

It's just gonna go to hell,
And we're done.

Zee, it'd be a lot different
Sitting here.

If you guys had Seven ounces.

Yeah, they probably wouldn't
Have done our makeup.

No. They probably...

Yeah, I mean,
I give kudos to everyone.

That goes up there And does it,

Especially
For years after years,

'cause there's numerous things
That pile up.

That make the season
Long and hard.

That sounded Terrible.

- See? I knew it was gonna...
- I didn't even try.

We're trying to
Hold it together now,

But it's gonna deteriorate.

The wheels are Coming off.

Kevin, who do you think
Has the best job at this table?

- I think doumitt.
- Why?

Kevin Because He's got one job.

It's his Little corner.

Everyone else stays The out.

- Yeah, it's his world.
- And he does it his way.

I agree with that.

I mean, he's got a fishing rod
And a golf club on his wall.

That he plays with.

That makes The tailing pile.

But on the other hand,
Too, like,

We've gone down there
When he's doing the cleanups.

It's a lot of work.

And a lot of people just think,
Like, "Man."

He's got his system down.
It comes out real clean.

"It must be easy."

There's a lot of steps that
Make that all happen.

Yeah, I mean, we just heard
It takes, you know,

Eight, nine hours for him
To do the gold cleanup.

Yep.

What do you guys think
About tony beets?

Can you imagine working For t...

I mean, the difference
Between rick and tony beets.

- Is pretty vast.
- Yeah.

Happens.

He just whipped This thing over.

I'm trying To imagine it.

I mean, he's all business,
Though, right,

And rick, coming from parker,
You know,

He had a clear goal that,
You know,

"I'm gonna bring my friends
Up there.

We're gonna make some money,
But we're gonna have fun, too."

I don't really get that feeling
From tony too much,

That, "Hey, we're gonna
Have some fun today, guys."

No.

I can't imagine zee and tony.

I could see it.
But, you know, honestly,

With tony, there is
A lot of fun involved, though.

We don't really see it,
But we have a great time.

- Right.
- Don't get me wrong.

He expects, You know, work.

- Produce, produce, produce.
- Yeah, produce.

But there's a lot of fun
That goes along with it.

You're not Gonna get tony.

Joking on the radio With zee.

- Yeah, you actually do.
- You do?

You actually do. Yeah.

- All right.
- You don't know it's a joke

'cause all you hear Is "Bleep."

Christo Coming up,
I run some wacky.

Wash-plant name suggestions
By the guys.

- The shakedown.
- I like it.

Christo Then zee reveals
A shocking secret.

"People are gonna watch this,
And they're not gonna hire me."

Just gonna give
A blanket apology right now.

Should cover me The next hour.

What could possibly Go wrong?

Christo All right,
Let's switch gears.

Juan, did you watch mitch
Back in the day.

When you were just watching
"Gold rush"?

Juan Yeah, yeah.

We actually used
To watch "Gold rush"

Friday nights
At the mine I worked at.

- In alaska.
- Yeah, it was a big thing.

We'd all get together and just
Criticize the out of,

You know, what's going on.

"Aw, they're doing it
All wrong," you know.

It's funny 'cause I got buddies
That are like,

"Hey, you know,
What'd you do this for?"

I'm like, "Yeah, you know,
That's tv, man."

- they're criticizing you.
- Yeah.

But, yeah, we used to do that
All the time.

But were you ever star-struck
When you first met mitch?

No, because, you know,
He's a pretty down-to-earth guy.

You know, I met him
For the first couple times.

And just totally easy
To get along with,

Easy to talk to,
So it was just natural.

I mean, he's pretty well-known
For his bush fixes.

Yeah, absolutely.

'Cause you really do
Have to think.

Completely out of the box
Up there, right?

- Yeah.
- You don't have a shop.

That's exactly it,

And he's really good at that,
You know?

Between you two Mechanics here,

Who's gonna win in
A fix-it competition?

I thought you were gonna
Say a fist fight,

And I was gonna be like,
"Dude, that's... ".

This isn't u.F.C.
Don't start anything.

Juan's a lot bigger
In person than...

That's a big dude, Man, yeah.

Who's the better mechanic?

You know, we both
Have our strengths.

Do you guys have different
Areas of expertise?

I mean, you've got a lot
Of plumbing experience.

Yeah, and I'm a lot of
Fabricating, too, you know,

So I kind of specialize more
On the fabrication side...

Fabricating, Welding.

And, you know, with our sites
Being close together,

There's a lot of times
Where, you know,

I'll drive down,
See if juan's got a part.

Or if we're kind of
Running into something,

He's come over,
Borrowed stuff from us.

- You do do that?
- Yeah, all the time.

See, we don't see that
In the show.

You know, 'cause we don't have
A big community out there,

And the people that
We do have, you know,

We got to rely
On each other for help.

If he's got tools that I need,
I'm gonna go ask him,

And vice versa... And parts.

It seems to me like
There's a certain breed,

Mechanics.

Especially mechanics that
Want to come up there and...

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

Well, I'm sure you guys
Feel the same.

I mean, we hard carl say it
Numerous times.

"People are gonna watch this,
And they're not gonna hire me."

You know what I mean?

It's constantly
In the back of your head.

Because it's just unconventional
The way things will be done?

Yeah, you're just
Kind of putting...

Your piecemealing
Stuff together.

It looks like
You don't know what...

- You kind of look like a hack.
- Yeah.

It's one of those deals...
You feel bad enough doing it.

Just when you're Out on your own.

And only a handful of guys
Are gonna see it,

And they're filming
Over you're shoulder,

And they're like,
"What are you doing?"

You're just like,
"I'm sure you guys."

Got something Better to do.

- This isn't that important."
- "Yeah, this is horrible tv."

It's gonna be seen
All over the world.

Yeah.

Rick I christen thee
Durt reynolds.

- Ha-ha!
- Yeah!

All right, zee, I got
To give you credit for this.

When you came up
With durt reynolds,

I decided it was time
To do a poll.

To see which wash plant.

In the history of "Gold rush"
Has the most popular name.

Let's check out the results
Of it right here.

Ooh, look at that.

Ooh.

Zee, does that hurt?

I know in my heart
It's the best.

I also asked the twittersphere
And on facebook.

To come up with
Their best wash-plant names.

Let's take a look at some
Of the best ones we got.

My!

Dirt diggler Was a big one.

Did you have That one before?

I already had That one, yeah.

Zee probably had All of these.

Next one. There you go.

- The rick ness monster.
- That's the rick ness monster.

These are great graphics.
What's the next one here?

- Crusty doyle.
- Crusty doyle.

I don't... I don't get it.
Do you get it?

Supposed to be "Christo,"
But that's okay.

I guess I am kind of
Old and crusty.

- Goldierocks.
- Goldierocks.

- Do you have that one?
- I did not have that one.

Come on, zee. You're slipping.

It's too pg For his notebook.

The jackpot jiggler.
. That's not bad.

The shakedown.

I like it.

You got to keep
A wash-plant name short.

Yeah.

Golden retriever.

- There you go.
- That's not bad.

- Zee likes that one.
- Yeah, that's all right.

That's good.

Gold gobbler.

I nicknamed it The rock gobbler.

- Jack.
- Jack?

I'm gonna get a phone call
From todd about it,

Just so everybody knows.

Kevin, any chance
You go to tony and say,

"We got to start
Naming these things?"

- probably not.
- Like, I begged him.

Could he please Name the dredge?

I can sell you a few.

All right, we're gonna play
A little game here.

This is either
Gonna go really well,

Or it's gonna tank.

And now it's time to play.

"Know your mine boss."

All right, so I'm just gonna
Read you guys a quote,

And you're gonna hold up
Whoever you think said it.

- Simple?
- Yep.

- Zee Gotcha.
- All right.

Christo Let's do
The first one here.

We got two tony And one rick.

Let's see Who the answer is.

I mean, if it wasn't safe,
We wouldn't do it, now,

Would we? Right?

Hang on.

Isn't that... That's the airbag.

That's cut out in the window
Right there.

The airbag blew,
And he had to cut it out.

Those are curtains.

All right, next one.

That's a tough one.

We got all rick here.

Yeah, well, rick is
Pretty cool about that.

All right, let's see.

I don't care
What anybody does here.

For pleasure, right? We all don't know.

I'm not gonna judge anybody
For what they do.

- Is that true?
- It is now.

- That's not true.
- Gonna keep that recording.

He's judging you guys.

He has a drone that
Flies above you guys.

To look at you guys.

Well, that's not judging,
That's checking up.

That's spying. That's judging.

Next...

- yeah. I would go with parker.
- I'm gonna go with that, too.

- Really?
- Rick?

Let's see.

Aw!

See, now I just got in trouble
With parker, too.

- Seems kind of un-rick-like.
- Yeah, that was, yeah.

But, see, now,

You're seeing rick
As a boss now.

He's not just A worker, so...

Right. That's the transition.

Yep.

All right, next one.

I'm not doing so good,
But let's just get it over with.

All right. We're not gonna win.

Christo Three parker.
Let's see who it is.

And this season,
I have taken much more...

- nice.
- That's a big one.

Christo That's a big pickup
For you guys.

- Yeah, yeah.
- We needed that.

You guys did need that.
You're still behind, though.

Thanks, juan.

And juan and kevin
Are the winners of the game.

Are you guys upset?

- I'm happy for them.
- Thanks, guys.

- Appreciate it.
- Yay.

We're still gonna Gloat, though.

The grand prize is,

You get all of these
Stick figures.

- Give me that.
- Here you go.

Christo Chris doumitt
Steals my job.

Favorite country?

Usa.

Country you'd wish To visit?

Usa.

Then the secrets start flying.

During the largest social-media
Session in "Dirt" history.

I have seen doumitt make wine
In his trailer,

Like, in a garbage sack.

It was sketchy.

Christo And later, after
Tonight's all-new "Gold rush,".

Another episode of
"Gold rush White water."

- wow.
- The hell's that?

Man That's the bear.

This bear's
Watching us right now.

Because we're here,
In their backyard.

Man Water is sinking
The front down.

We got to get
That small dredge up.

Up, up.

Whoa!

I'm gonna read you
Some questions.

Okay. I want you to answer.

As quick as you can,
As many as you can.

You got 60 seconds. Ready? Let's do it.

Spirit animal?

Blue heeler.

Best gift ever given?

Rifle.

Person you want
To have coffee with?

My wife.

How do you like Your coffee?

With a lot of creamer In it.

What's your favorite Curse word?

Probably.

Okay. Favorite board game?

Monopoly.

Favorite country?

Usa.

Country you'd wish To visit?

Usa.

What's your favorite color? Blue.

Can you give an impersonation
Of someone?

Yeah, I don't know
About that there, chris.

To do it again,
But with a british accent.

I don't know about that.

Aw, Can't do that one. Sorry.

Do you prefer jogging
Or swimming?

Jogging.

What's your best way
To decompress?

Having a couple beers.

If you had one power...

What would it be?

Time's up.

Producer Juan, why don't you
Switch with kevin?

Too much reflection.

Put the fat guys Together.

- Yeah, dude.
- Whatever.

I see what They're doing.

Chubby guys next To each other.

The cheese platter's
Going right here.

We'll go get some daiquiris
Later or something.

I might, dude. You want to go?

Gaze into Each other's eyes.

A round of appletinis
For the boys.

All right, this is
Gonna be an experiment.

We're gonna try
And do social media.

With all six of you guys.

Let's take the first one.

From c.L.

The first couple years
In dawson with the hoffman crew,

Yeah, and not friendly.

You guys were not Well-received.

Do you think it was
Because of the show.

Or because of the way you mined? Both.

A lot of those miners
Up there didn't want.

Tv all over the place...-

And we weren't
The best miners in the world.

You guys were up there
When that happened.

Yeah.
We'd been up there for years.

Do you understand
That mentality,

That they didn't
Want the cameras?

From what was
Portrayed on the show,

It made the hoffmans look
Terribly bad at mining,

And a lot of local miners felt
That reflected badly upon them.

- The mining community?
- Yeah.

What the frick?

That's a main "I" beam
There, dad. Stop.

I mean, I'm no rocket scientist,
But that's the "I" beam, dad.

Jack Yeah, No kidding.

Especially it happening in
And around dawson.

That's where a lot
Of the ill will started from.

Next one.

Mitch is Constantly tinkering.

Yeah, you can't work
On cars and go racing.

There's no racetracks
In the yukon.

Doumitt, golf.

Wine-making, Golf, and cigars.

- That's it.
- A healthy life.

I have seen doumitt make wine
In his trailer,

Like, in a garbage sack.

It was sketchy.

- Really?
- How'd it taste?

Tell me about that.

We didn't try it,
But I know, like,

Everybody that did had a pretty
Good hangover the next day.

So you're making,
Like, prison...

Prison hooch, yeah.

Just grape juice,
Wrong kind of yeast,

Wrong kind of containers.
People go blind.

I don't know If people go blind.

I play drums.
I like playing in bands.

- Do you?
- Yeah.

Nice. What about you, juan?

Yeah, I tinker in my shop,
Building cars and trucks.

Cooking,
Tinkering with electronics,

Painting.

Kevin, why no blasting?

Not worth the effort.

You might as well just
Rip it and leave it.

It's easier, it's cheaper,
It's safer.

Is it not legal up there?

It is legal,
But you do need all the permits,

And your ducks have to be
Very much in a row,

And it's just An added cost,

Expense, And more complications.

You know, if you do it wrong,
You don't drill it right,

You end up with boulders
The size of this,

You know, Big ice clumps.

And then you're gonna
Blow those up.

I mean, we'd love it for tv,
I'll be honest.

- It would be great.
- It would be fun to try.

All right, next?

Go ahead, juan.

So, for me, you know,
Before I get up there,

I actually stock up On menudo.

The band? The boy band?

That, too.

I got a couple cds.

But, no, I stock up
On cans of menudo,

So every now and then, like
Friday night or saturday night,

I'll make menudo For myself.

Nice. What about you guys? Zee?

I would say prime-rib night
Was always my...

Pretty much my favorite, yeah.
Always the goto?

You guys? Chocolate.

Chocolate? Chocolate, yeah.

That's your meal?
That actually is true, though.

- Yeah.
- You eat chocolate for dinner?

I'll eat chocolate
For any time, yeah.

- And wine?
- Yeah.

Chocolate wine and a cigar.
Prison hooch and chocolate?

- Yeah.
- And he makes toothbrush shanks.

All right, guys,
That went much better.

Than I actually thought
It was gonna be.

Let's check out a sneak peak
Of tonight's big episode.

Of "Gold rush."

Narrator Tonight
On "Gold rush"...

What the.

Tensions flare
As parker questions.

Brennan's oversight
On big red...

You say, "I'll get it done,".

You say, "I'll make a plan,"
And here we are.

Sakes!

Narrator Rick ness
Makes a costly mistake.

Rick That's what I call dumb.

Just in too much Of a hurry.

And tony's desperation.

To reach his 6,000-ounce goal...

We only got two months
Left of the season.

We're not even near
Our 6,000 ounces.

Turns already-dangerous work.

On the mine site...

Tony Whoa, whoa, Whoa! Stop!

Downright deadly.
