Girl Meets Farm (2018–…): Season 3, Episode 4 - Molly's Baby Shower - full transcript

Molly has a huge crowd to feed as she prepares for her baby shower complete with a simple-but-delicious menu.

Now we eat.

[ laughter ]

nick and I are so excited
to become parents,

so we're celebrating with
some of our dear friends.

And for the party, I'm making
a delicious potato,

sausage, and broccoli frittata,

a fresh, herby salad with creamy
burrata and a tangy vinaigrette,

plus some beautiful mix-ins
for my baby shower bubbly bar,

and sweet mini rosewater trifles

to go with
my golden milk lattes.

Oh, baby.

Oh, yah. Mmm!

Hey! This is me -- molly yeh.

I'm a cookbook author
and food blogger.

[ ding! ]

this is my husband, nick.

This is our new addition...

And this is our home,

our farm on the
north dakota/minnesota border,

every party needs a cake,

so I am making my almond
orange blossom cake

that I'm gonna
turn into mini trifles.

That's cake, and fruit,
and cream.

It's gonna have all my favorite
flavors in one adorable trifle.

To get started on my cake,
I'm gonna combine 2 cups

of almond flour
with some all purpose flour.

And now I'll add 1 teaspoon
of kosher salt.

If you don't salt your cakes,
the flavor just tastes flat.

Now in my stand mixer
I'm gonna add unsalted butter.

And I'm also gonna add
some sugar.

And I'm gonna beat this
for a few minutes

until it's light and fluffy.

So, anna, my sister-in-law,
is incredible with decorations,

and invites,
and all of that cute stuff.

So, I have her setting up
for the party,

and I'm making the food.

Okay.
I'm gonna scrape down the sides,

and then I'm gonna start
to add my eggs.

And I'm adding them
one at a time,

to make sure that they all
get incorporated completely.

that was a double yolk!

That's got to be a good sign.

Maybe it means I'm having twins.

Psyche, I'm definitely

now I'm gonna add
some orange blossom water.

Orange blossom water is
a floral flavoring

that is so great with almond.

It's optional, so if you can't
find it, you can just skip it,

but I just think it adds
a perfect little spark

to almond cakes.

Next I'll add almond extract.

[ sniffs ]
I love almond.

The zest of a lemon.

Because lemon and almond
also go really well together.

It's a pretty heavy, dense cake,

and this is gonna add
some nice brightness.

Now, with the mixer on low,

I'm gonna gradually add
my dry ingredients.

I want to make sure
not to over-mix it

because I don't want
a gummy cake.

♪♪

I've got a pan here that's been
greased and lined

with parchment.

as a loaf cake, as well.

Or you could do round cakes.

♪♪

I'm gonna bake it at 350,
for about 55 minutes,

till a toothpick inserted into
the center comes out clean.

I'm gonna keep this trifle train
going by prepping my berries.

In a bowl, I'm gonna
combine strawberries,

blueberries, raspberries,
and blackberries.

And I'm gonna macerate
these berries,

meaning I'm gonna combine them
all with some sugar,

and then I'm gonna let them
release their juices,

and that's gonna bring out
all of their natural flavors.

I love [sniffs] rosewater.
It smells like roses.

Just like
the orange blossom water,

a little bit goes a long way.

And lastly, I'm gonna add
the zest of a lemon.

Now I'm gonna fold this
all together,

and I'm gonna mash some of
these berries along the way.

I want this fruit to start
to break down

because it's gonna soak
into the cake of my trifle

and get so good.

Now, the longer this sits,

the more the flavors
are gonna develop.

So, I'm gonna let this sit
for at least a half an hour.

But you can leave it
for up to four hours.

Okay, so I have my fruits
left over and I'm going to

use them to create some syrups
for a bubbly bar.

It's gonna be kind of
a diy type of thing,

where people can make
their own drinks,

and it's gonna be gorgeous.

So, the first thing
I'm gonna make

is a raspberry-rosemary syrup.

I'll grab three cups of water
and add it to a saucepan.

And then I'll also
add some sugar.

Now I'm gonna add
my raspberries.

And a few sprigs of rosemary.

These are going to infuse
this syrup

with that gorgeous
rosemary flavor.

It was actually
in my wedding bouquet,

so it's fitting that it's going
to be at my baby shower now.

Okay, now I'm gonna bring this
to a boil,

and then let it simmer
for a few minutes

as the raspberries break down

and the rosemary
infuses the syrup.

Now while this heats,
I'm gonna get started

on my blueberry-basil puree.

I'll add my blueberries
to a blender

and about half
a bunch of basil.

I love fresh basil.

It's so hard to get fresh basil
in the winter,

and so, in the summer,
when we grow it in our garden,

I am like a basil monster.

I'll add a little sugar to this
to sweeten it.

And some water.

And now I'll blend it
until it's really smooth.

[ blender whirring ]

I love this natural color.

Now I'll pour this
right in here.

And now I'll strain
my raspberry syrup, too.

How pretty is that pink color?

Now I'll pour half of this
into my serving pitcher

and then I'll have the other
half to keep on hand.

It'll keep in the fridge
for a few weeks.

Molly: While my friends are

I'm gonna get started
on my frittata.

Frittatas are awesome
party foods

because you can make them
for a crowd.

I'm browning some sausage,

and I'm gonna transfer it
to my bowl.

And I'm gonna use
a slotted spoon

because I'm gonna use
the fat from the sausage

to cook up my veggies
for the frittata.

It's taking like everything
I have not to eat

all of this sausage right now.

I have some diced onions here.

And I'll get these softening.

[ sizzling ]

and the fat from the sausage
cooking the onions

is just gonna infuse them
with flavor,

it's gonna be so good.

I'm gonna add a pinch
of salt to my onions.

I'm using a russet potato here,

and I'm essentially
making a hash

that I'm going to pour
an egg mixture over.

I don't want to cook them
all the way through

because they'll continue to cook

when they bake
inside the frittata.

I love broccoli in a frittata.

It's really pretty,

Now I can hear my potatoes

Okay, while this cooks,
I will mix up my egg mixture.

Another thing that's great
about frittatas

is that you can

So, if I'm having an early

Now I'll season this

And some pepper.

And I'll add some dill.

Okay, my broccoli is ready.

I'm gonna add it to the bowl

My pan has been greased,
