Ghost Adventures (2008–…): Season 13, Episode 1 - Colorado Gold Mine - full transcript

Ghost Adventures Crew travel to Idaho Springs to investigate the haunted Phoenix Gold Mine, where a brutal murder took place and a malevolent spirit called "Tommyknocker" is known to roam the deep tunnels.

This mine is full of ghosts.

He shot 'em both.

Are the little Tommy knocker
trolls in here?

Yes.
Do you want us to go in there?

This is extremely dangerous
what we're doing right now.

We could've been walking
over live dynamite.

What is that? Okay. Listen. Shh.
Can you show yourself?

I'm getting the chills
right now.

Oh, my god.
I've never seen that before.

It just disappeared.

There are things
in this world

that we will never
fully understand.

Understand.

We want answers.

Answers.

We have worked years
to build our credibility,

our reputation,

working alongside the most
renowned professionals

in the field,

capturing groundbreaking proof
of the paranormal.

It's working!
Whoa.

I can't give you
an explanation.

This is our evidence,
our ghost adventures.

All right, guys.
We're in, uh, Idaho Springs,

Colorado.

There's a gold mine that
we are going to investigate.

It opened up in 1871.

This mine is full of ghosts.

They're calling us for help.

They wanna know
who these ghosts are.

They want us to
communicate with them.

There was a double murder
right near the mine.

And people here
that work at the mine

are claiming to see these guys,

full apparitions,
go inside the mine.

Known for its exceedingly
harsh working conditions

and long work days,

distressed miners
made many mistakes.

Many of those mistakes
sadly proved fatal.

There is people
buried in here, absolutely.

I have two people's ashes
buried in here right now.

ZAK: It is known that a man
named Ray Collins

practiced black magic

and was known to be a warlock.

His soul remains here.

And where there is evidence
of the profound occult,

there is always
a trail of depraved

evil left in its wake.

Al.
Yeah?

Can you come here
for a second, please?

Al Mosch has owned this mine
for almost 30 years.

Is it true that,
back in the 1950s,

a couple guys got murdered
just outside the mine here?

Very few people
know this.

And on a Sunday morning,
two men went up.

They were looking for uranium.
The government would

get us to look for uranium
for nuclear weapons.

They had their wives
in the car.

And Gillespie was his name.

Gillespie came up, had a nice,

cordial visit with the wives.

They went up
to see them in.

And after he visited
for a while, he come back,

was very nice
to the women and took off.

Well, they kept waiting
for their husbands to come back.

And they didn't.

So they finally got
outta the car and went up

and found each one
with a bullet in the head.

He shot 'em both.

Why did Gillespie murder
these two men right out...

Well, he ended up spending
most of his life

in an insane asylum.

Every now and then,
the tourists will come up,

tell me about weird stuff
that happens.

Numerous tourists
have claimed

to see two figures appear
in the Phoenix gold mine.

Could these two men
who were senselessly

murdered be
the ones they see?

For years, that's been going on.
For years?

And they were murdered in 1959.
This is interesting.

We just got done, uh,
doing an interview, uh, with Al.

And as we came out, um,
this lady comes running up.

And her name is Jo.
Jo?

Jo is visibly rattled
and claims

to have just witnessed
an entity in another mine.

Uh, we went in the --

the Comstock to check it
for safety for you guys.

We were in about 200 feet,
and he's calling my name.

When was this happening?

Just now.
Did you have a witness?

Michelle. Yes.
Where is she?

Michelle and Victoria,
can you come here, please?

I heard something say,
"Jo, follow me."

What you just heard,
"Jo, follow me," were you --

did you hear it too?

Yeah. I was there.
Okay.

What was it?
A guy's voice.

It -- it was a whisper
of a guy's voice.

Okay.
And let me get this straight.

Uh, I'm h --
we're here at the Phoenix mine.

Correct.
This other Comstock mine

that we're gonna go to right now
is up the hill.

Can we go up there right now?
Right now.

All right.
We're driving up to this.

I'm concerned about
the whole danger

of this --
going in this mine.

This mine that we're
going into right now is --

is not a tour mine.

It's an actual
functioning mine.

And she said the first
40 feet of it

is literally you can

just fit yourself
barely for 40 feet.

And it could collapse.

And that's the risk that
we have to take right now.

So this is pretty much
a life-or-death mission

to get to a point in the mine

where it opens up to granite

where they are having these
experience with this entity.

So you want us to go in there?

Yeah.
Welcome to the Comstock.

As we first walk in,
all I see is crumbled

and rotten support
timbers everywhere.

So this is why this is
so dangerous up here.

Right here.

These are the timbers.

And because we have
steel and wood,

if it was just wood,
I wouldn't allow anyone in here.

But, um, we've got...

Some of the ceiling has caved
on the portal, not on the mine.

So we just need to get
outta this entrance.

Well, let's get the hell
outta this entrance.

This is extremely dangerous
what we're doing right now.

This is
extremely dangerous.

That's why I said you have
to have real hard hats.

I don't wanna go back
too much further.

I'm seriously starting
to panic a little bit.

Despite the real dangers,
these three ladies

keep pushing me
deeper into the mine

as if this entity
has to meet me.

Now it's not just
the mine scaring me.

It's also the three of them.

I don't wanna be in here.

Come on.

Does my daughter
have your hand?

I do.
Okay.

We've got water here.
Do not step in it.

It'll eat your shoes.

Just watch your step.
Watch your left.

Watch your feet here.

There's a gap
in this wood here.

Stay on the wood
as much as possible.

How much further?

Uh, you're gonna have
to go on the rails here.

Use the wall for balance.

Guys, I wanna do a recording,
okay?

Okay.
Can we do this quick?

'Cause I wanna get
the hell outta here.

Okay. What do you want me
to say or do?

Nothing.
I'm gonna start --

I'm gonna start
recording right now.

I'm recording.

You were just
speaking to them.

Can we heard your voice?

What was that?
I heard it.

Did you hear that?
I did hear that.

Sounded like a hey or something.

I heard it.

All of a sudden,
we all begin to hear a man

speaking deeper
from within the mine.

There's talking.

And there's a knock or...

Can you come to my voice?

Can you speak to me?

I can sense that the ladies
have some type

of strong attachment
to this entity.

Dude, I'm, like, shaking.

[ Indistinct ]

What the...
"Get out."

It sounded like it.
Listen.

He only wants me in here.
I don't know.

Shh. Listen.

[ Warbling ]

Right there.

Right there.

He told me to get out
on the recording,

so I'm getting out.

Somebody go with me.

I need to get outta here.

The ladies try to get me
to go even farther.

Do you wanna go?
I wanna get out.

You're okay.
No, I'm not.

But I start to panic.

Aside from the dangers
of the mine,

something else just
doesn't feel right.

It's as if this spirit told me

to get out for a deeper reason

that will become
clear to us later.

Dude.

I don't give a...
what anybody says.

That was -- that was scary.

We were going back.

And all of a sudden, we started
hearing the guy talking.

It's legit.
It's real.

It -- it's real.

Like, we started
hearing this guy

talking from deep
in the freaking mine.

And I b--
I got my recorder out.

And I started rolling.

And a guy's voice,
crystal clear,

comes through
and says, "Get out."

And then, at that point,
they wanted to go deeper.

And I'm just like,
"Man, I went far enough.

I went way far back in there."

Those girls -- those --
those girls are crazy.

They're nuts.

That mine's gonna cave
in any time.

Upon our return to
the Phoenix, Hank,

totally unaware
of our spontaneous

investigation of the Comstock,

gives us a stern warning.

Would you say the Comstock
is pretty scary?

Yep.
It's definitely scary.

But I don't want you guys
in there at all.

It's gonna cave in on you.

And then it'll
really be scary.

Well, it's a little too late
to hear that now.

But you're all right.
You're still here.

Should've done this interview
before I went in there.

We could've been walking
over live dynamite.

This is gonna change everything.

I come here to find
proof of ghosts,

and I'm finding it.

ZAK: As our investigation
in Idaho Springs, Colorado

continues, we learn of a legend
derived from Cornish folklore,

the Tommyknocker -- gnome-like,
malicious spirits

that have been known
to cause harm to miners.

One serious question, Big Jim.
What's that?

Do you firmly believe

that these little
Tommyknocker trolls

are in this mine?
Yes.

That's all I need to know.

Mischievous one'll drop a 10-ton
boulder on your head.

Do you believe it?
I believe it.

Do the bad ones chip away
at the supports,

wanting to -- wanting to...
Well...

Kill the miners?
I have smelt 'em, uh,

cooking bacon
in the mountain before.

What?
I've smelt bacon cooking

in the mountain before,
more than one time.

You've smelt bacon?
In different mines and stuff.

Oh, in the mines,
you've smelled bacon?

Yeah.
So the Tommyknockers...

Yeah. They gotta cook
breakfast too, don't they?

So their staple diet is bacon?

I don't know what it is.
Okay.

If Tommyknockers eat bacon,

then we could bring some bacon
as bait.

No. Why don't you get off
that subject?

I don't even know what they eat
or even what they are.

All right.
Not talking about it anymore.

This is awesome, dude.

What do you eat?
What do you eat?

This is, like, the...
What's that?

The coolest thing ever.

You're talking about
what feeding 'em.

And I don't know what feeds 'em.
All right.

You're asking me questions
that I can't answer.

So I said get off
the bacon subject.

What do you wanna talk about?
The mine?

Bacon.
Bacon.

No, I'm just kidding.
All laughs aside,

well-known UFO

and paranormal investigator
Chuck Zukowski

has collected evidence

of Tommyknockers
in this very mine.

Zak.
Chuck Zukowski.

Nice to meet you.

Your background is you are
an official UFO investigator.

Yeah.
I've been doing this 30 years.

I'm a field investigator.

And something drew you
to the Phoenix mine

to investigate these --
these Tommyknockers.

Do you think that they're --
they're real?

Tommyknockers, that legend can
go back to 2500 B.C.

The miners were so convinced

that Tommyknockers
were real that,

when the mines started
closing here in the U.S.,

that they actually
asked the owners

to give pink slips
to the Tommyknockers

to release them
out of the mines.

And -- and this was --
this was true.

What do you think they are?

What -- what
are they made up of?

Like, are they a spirit?

Are they nonhuman?

Are they something
from the devil?

Tommyknockers
are said to, you know,

chip away at the supports
to kill the miners.

From what the miners said,

that, if you disrespected
the Tommyknockers,

they could cause
a cave-in.

And really,
back in the day, you know,

we had tons and tons of rocks.

They didn't sit there...
Right.

And pull everything out.
It was like, you know,

that's where you were buried.

ZAK: Now is a good time
to have a creekside meeting

with the team to discuss
what we have gathered so far.

Guys, I think,
after interviewing Chuck,

um, he was really serious

about these Tommyknockers.
Yeah.

I thought it was
nothing but a...

Myth, a fictional myth.
Right.

So I'm becoming more
of a believer of these entities

and a lot of 'em being nonhuman,

just these mythical creatures
that are real.

Let's just say
these Tommyknockers,

they do make
the knocking noises.

They are there.

But let's just say they're
in a different spectrum.

Bill Chappell,
our chief inventor,

engineer --
he's very close to here.

And we have never officially
made a visit to his laboratory.

Are we going?
He has invited us...

Yeah!
No way!

To his laboratory.
Hell yeah!

Jay and I have decided
to remain here in Idaho Springs,

preparing for the lockdown

while Billy and Aaron

go to Bill Chappell's lab

where he dreams
up new technology

that allows us
to communicate with

and gain a deeper understanding

of paranormal energy.

And as a focus
for our upcoming lockdown

in the Phoenix gold mine,

Bill has been researching ways
to take the capturing

of EVPs to another level.

I think we figured
out more about

EVP than we ever have before.

And I think this is gonna change
everything as we go forward.

ZAK: It is in these soundproof
caverns that he will conduct

what may be his most prolific
experiment to date.

I'm gonna draw you
a picture of a fish tank.

We had a speaker
up here, okay.

The sound's gonna hit
the water first.

And then it's gonna change.

We know, like, sound,
water, changes speed.

This sound is also gonna
bounce off of other structures.

It's gonna hit
the side of the tank.

It's gonna happen on
all four sides of the tank.

It's gonna happen
from the bottom too.

This information
may be coming to you,

instead of an audio signal,
more as a vibration.

And then, whatever
the message is,

is actually modulated on top.

Thanks Bill.
No problem.

Can't wait
to show this to Zak.

ZAK: As Billy and Aaron
are leaving Bill's lab,

I get an urgent
phone call from Jo

who was our guide
at the deadly Comstock mine.

Hi.
It's Zak.

Apparently, you wanted
to talk to me

about something
that happened yesterday.

What do you mean, caps?
What do you --

what -- what are caps?

I don't want you guys to go
any farther because...

Do you see what I see?
Yeah.

These are blasting caps
that have not gone off.

And they explode
just like dynamite.

ZAK: Are you telling me that
where we were in the mine,

we could've been walking
over live dynamite?

Problem is, if we step on a rock
that rubs against a cap,

it can blow up.

So you're telling me
that you believe that this --

this ghost, uh, this --

this male spirit that has a --

a -- a man's voice,
is telling you, Jo...

What was she --
what was he saying again, Jo?

So you're telling me

that two what looked like people

in this photo

are not any of you guys

or anybody else
that was in the mine?

You're telling me
these two figures are spirits?

That voice that
I got was a very, very,

very clear, "Get out."

Do you believe that,
that was a spirit of the miner

that is in your photo,

warning us to get out

because of the live
dynamite still there.

Where the blasting caps are.

Now it all seems
to be connecting together.

It's extremely powerful.

These miners come out here
in these mines to find gold.

I come here from Las Vegas
to find proof of ghosts,

and I'm finding it.

Tommyknocker, Tommyknocker,
we're here to take your gold!

Guys, I have two eyes
looking at me.

Are you serious?

Okay.
It is time.

We're in Idaho Springs,
Colorado.

We are getting ready
to investigate

the Phoenix gold mine.

What I'm gonna do
is now send you alone

to the Union Tunnel.

We called this
the Mystery Mine

They don't even know
anything about it.

It's a mine from the 1800s.

There could be
all kinds of people

buried in there from collapses.

Who knows?
Sure.

Bill, what we're gonna do
is we're gonna conduct

your experiments
inside the Phoenix mine.

Okay.
But before we do that,

I want you to hang
out here at base.

And, Aaron and Jay,

I want us three
to first go in here

and just do an
open investigation,

see if we can make
contact ourselves.

Then we'll bring in
the big guns, the new equipment.

And I can't wait
to use this.

Okay.
Let's do this, guys.

Just as we are suiting up
to head into the mines,

we all hear something
that causes an immediate panic.

We're just getting ready
to start investigating.

And there's a very loud
snarling right here.

We had to call Hank.

Oh, there he is right there.

He smelled your food.
I told you.

Man, we think there's a bear
right here in our camp.

Listen.
Shh.

He's walking up
steps like...

Hold on.

He's gonna come across down
that walkway, I swear.

Hear him?

Bigfoot is a real deal, man.

Ain't no doubt about it.

My buddy still won't
talk about it,

freaked him out so bad.

Put them down a creek
in the middle of nowhere.

We're bouncing along.
And my buddy said,

"There goes a Bigfoot!"
And I saw him running.

And the next thing --
words outta his mouth --

He looked at me
with his eyes that big.

And he said,
"He's a shape-shifter."

ZAK: I immediately think that
a bear is down at the mill.

However, Bill has seen
other mysterious creatures

roaming around at night.

So Aaron, Jay,
Bill Chappell and Hank,

the miner,
all head into the mill.

I decide it's best
to stay back here

and hide behind a tree in case

it really is a bear or Bigfoot.

Here's where we heard the bear.
So if it's inside,

this is the only way
it could've gotten in.

Take this, Jay.
Take this. Use that.

I'm serious.
What am I gonna do with this?

Stab him in the face
and push him back.

All right.
You're first then.

Which way do you go down, Hank?

I feel like we have entered,
and Bigfoot is actually

hiding somewhere
in here, dude.

I swear to God.

Hush.

Don't see anything.

Doesn't that look like
something's gone through this?

It does.

Is there a door open
from the other side?

Yeah. Yeah.
There's still an entrance

going that still goes.

Yeah. It's cold.
So maybe he got out.

There's no exit here,
might have a bear in there.

Is that dead-end?
Dead-end?

Yeah.

Can they climb ladders?

No.

ZAK: As the guys are just
about to leave the mill,

we capture a priceless moment
of Bill Chappell

looking as terrified

as he's ever been during

a "Ghost Adventures"
investigation.

Stop! Shh.
I did hear something.

I just heard giggling
sound like...

ZAK: Hank, Bill Chappell,

Jay and Aaron
are in this old mill.

And that's where
we heard the bear.

I'm just left here by myself

while they're exploring
that mine.

I now start rolling on
our thermal energy camera,

sweeping the entire grounds.

And as the guys return from
investigating inside the mill,

we hear these mysterious
sounds yet again.

[ Banging ]

We were just
in that building, dude.

And nothing was in there.

I'm getting a closer look.
I'll be quiet.

I'll be quiet.
Everybody just stays quiet.

Aaron?
Shh.

Guys, I have
two eyes looking at me.

What?

I have something staring
right at me, bro.

Dude, it looks like
he's standing up like a human.

Be care... Whoa, whoa.
Oh, my God.

It's a baby bear
trying to get seed.

Is it on the ground?
No.

It's climbing into
the garbage can.

Are you serious?
Yep.

Someone watch my back.
Come here.

ZAK: I immediately rush over

with the thermal
imaging camera

only to discover that the noises

we've been
hearing aren't

from an 8-foot Sasquatch

or a massive bear with claws

or even a baby bear.

What we've been freaking out
over is actually just a...

Definitely a raccoon.

Here it comes.

Uh, dude, he's gonna
jump right at me, bro.

I don't know what to do.

Keep going.

Dude, he's, like,
looking... His eyes.

Just winked at me, bro.

ZAK:
During our raccoon adventure,

Billy has been traveling
to the Union Tunnel mine,

which he will be
investigating all by himself.

Phew.

So far, I'm back about
I don't even know how far,

maybe half a mile
back here in this mine.

And you can hear
every single vibration.

I have no idea
how far this goes back.

But when I get back there,
I'm gonna do some EVP.

And, uh, I have a couple
other things I wanna try out.

Man, this is freaky.

ZAK: We were told earlier
by the local miners

that no one really
ever goes inside here,

hence its nickname,
the Mystery Mine.

The reason why
I'm wearing this is

'cause we're gonna
go deeper in the mine

this time than we did
during our interviews.

And back there, there is
a lotta water and a lotta mold.

I have an allergy to mold.

Aaron, Jay and myself

are also using the SLS camera

to see if we can peek
inside another dimension

where these mythological
Tommyknockers may be hiding.

Tommyknocker, Tommyknocker,
we're here to take your gold!

It's ice cold here.
Was it right between you.

I am far back
in this mine back here.

There was a little
teeny-tiny figure!

ZAK: Deep in the Phoenix gold
mine in Idaho Springs, Colorado,

We're trying to make contact

with the legendary
Tommyknockers.

Let us hear your knock!

Get anything, Zak?

Where are we?
It's just pitch black.

Can't see anywhere.

Here's what we see.
You ready?

Just that.

I can see the light from your --
Yeah.

All I can see is -- is this.

And it just gives a little bit
of glow right around here.

But other than that,

everything else
is just pitch black.

Okay. Rolling on the recorder.
Stop.

Everybody, be silent
and don't move.

Hello!
Can you hear me?

Hold on.

Can you see me?

Can you hear me?

[ Thud ]

Did you hear that?
There was a little knock.

I'm looking for little
figures right now.

Is that a Tommyknocker?

Listen.
Are you a miner?

Can you understand me?
Can you hear me?

If you died in this mine,
let me know.

Or if you're the spirit of Ray,

and you're the warlock...

[ Metallic banging ]
Whoa. What was that?

That was over back here.
Was it back there?

What was that, Jay?

It was a big loud bang.
Watch out.

If you're the spirit of Ray,

and you're the warlock...

Whoa.

Whoa.
What was that?

That was over back here.

Wow. Okay. Hold on.
Be quiet.

Be quiet.
Right when you said his name...

Right when I said Ray...

Now there was a guy named Ray.

And, uh, I guess
he was a tour guide here.

And he was a full-blown warlock.

And he was very,
very deep in black magic.

And he had his ashes spread down
in the deep of the mine here.

Ray, are you doing
black magic on us?

What kind of rituals
did you do, Ray?

Can you show yourself, Ray?

Can you show yourself
in front of my voice?

Oh, my God!
Oh, my God!

You guys, there's

a little teeny-tiny
figure on my recorder!

Are you serious?

There was a little
teeny-tiny figure

that just appeared
on my recorder!

It was standing
on my recorder!

And then it just disappeared!

You told him to appear
right in front of your face.

Yeah.
I know.

But this was a teeny-tiny
figure like a Tommyknocker.

We just hear knocks!

And there was
a little teeny-tiny figure

that appeared on my recorder.

It was standing
on my recorder.

There was nothing
in the background at all.

I've never seen that before.

Oh, my God. Dude...

That was so awesome.

Did you see it?
Yeah.

I saw it real quick.

Did you see the little figure?
For a second.

He was standing...

For a second.
Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.

Whoa.
Feel this air.

Do you feel that?
Whoa. It's getting cold.

It's ice cold right here.
Was it right between you?

It's an ice cold draft.
Right here.

My whole body
is completely

frozen --
that was not cold.

This stays the same temperature.

This is icy cold.

And my whole body
is completely frozen.

This is an amazing
chain of events.

We were told earlier

that Tommyknockers will appear

right after you hear a knock.

Can you hear me?

Holy... Did you hear that?
Yeah. That was --

It was a little knock.

Right after that,
we hear a very loud noise

from deep within the mine

shaft that sounds
like miners working.

And you're the warlock.

Then, as I ask the spirit of Ray

who is a black-
magic-practicing

warlock whose ashes were poured
inside of this mine

to show himself,

this teeny-tiny
figure appears on command,

standing directly
on my digital recorder.

Could Ray's black magic
in the afterlife

have the power to conjure
a small Tommyknocker?

I just definitely heard
footsteps up ahead of me.

I'm getting
the chills right now.

I am far, far back
in this mine right now.

ZAK:
Billy continues even further
inside of the Mystery Mine.

Looks like the railroad
tracks end right here.

This is the end.

Well, it's the end
of where I can go.

Okay.
I'm a little outta breath

because I just literally
walked thousands of steps

to get to where I'm at.

And supposedly,
I'm really close

to the Phoenix vein
somewhere back in here.

But I am deep
inside the mountain.

There's the train
tracks coming in.

Right.
Here's a dam.

That's all water.
Let me show you here.

Just to show you,
here's a little rock.

Those thousands and thousands
of gallons of water

right there are being held back
by this little dam.

So this is officially
the end of the road for sure.

Why are you back there?

Something just grabbed my pants.

What the hell was that?

Whoa.
Whoa.

ZAK: As we walk through
the Phoenix gold mine,

we decide to go
to the exact area

where Ray the warlock's
ashes were poured,

which is behind a locked gate

that has been opened
by the owner of the mine,

granting us special access
to this sacred site.

You ready?
We're gonna go beyond

this restricted area right now.

We're trying
to find his spirit.

Guys, it's a little
more cramped in here.

Be careful.

Hey, Ray!

Are you in here?

Can't go any further.

The beams just collapsed...

Just snapped in half.

Guys, we need to be careful.

I don't think we should
be back here.

These could snap
just like those.

Is this where your body
is buried just beyond here?

Can you show yourself?

Hey, Ray!

We come a long ways
to chat with you real fast!

Is that cool?

We need to know
about the Tommyknockers!

What about the black magic, bro?

Are you into that?

What'd you do down
here with that?

[ Warbling ]

There's a... Oh!

What?
Oh, my God!

What?
All of a sudden,

a man's voice comes
through the Spirit Box.

And what shocks us
even more is that,

at the same time,

I also see an anomaly appear

right above the Spirit Box.

Whoa!
Holy...

Is this the warlock's spirit
speaking to us?

It went out of
the Spirit Box, bro.

Real? What?
I swear to God!

But I just wanna document

that there's nothing
flying around in here.

This is all mud
and wet dampness.

Now I've -- I've never
seen anything like it.

My body's being affected.

State your name!

It's getting really cold.
That was crazy, man.

Are you a Tommyknocker,
or are you Ray?

Come on!

We're taking the mine
over if you don't answer!

Whoa!
Whoa!

What?

There was just a flash
of light right up there.

There was a flash of white
light right up top.

It was right up there.

Why would it be in the ceiling?
And you can see... Hold on.

You can see there's
nothing reflective up there.

There's no lights
or anything.

There was a flash of light.

It was right there.

Why are you back there?

Who are you?

What, Jay?
Something just grabbed my pants.

Grabbed your pants?
Yeah.

What was that?

Scared the -- out of me.
Me too.

Right here,
this part of my pants,

I just felt a pull
just like that,

like, pull down right there.

If you're -- if you're
trapped in this mine,

come communicate
with me, please.

Hello?
It's okay.

You can come towards me.
I mean you no harm.

There's something weird.

There it is.

There it is.
There it is.

Oh, my gosh.

Oh, my gosh.
There it is.

Oh, and it's gone!

Oh, my God.

What the hell was that?

It's gone.
It's gone.

Thank you for showing yourself.

Oh, my God, dude.

ZAK: Billy makes an amazing
capture on thermal.

Could this unexplained
transient heat signature

be an old miner's
carbide headlamp?

Billy immediately begins

using Bill Chappell's Paranormal

Puck 2 device

to see if this spirit
can communicate with him

via electromagnetic
transcommunication.

BILLY: I'm gonna try
and ask him questions.

And they're gonna try
and change the energy

and the different values
that this thing collects,

data-wise, to select
different words

because spirits are known to
change electromagnetic fields.

I'm gonna begin and ask, uh,
"If you are the spirit

that showed up on my thermal
imaging camera,

can you please
come over here and join me

and give me some words
that are relevant

so that I know
that you're with me.

Uncle, see, make, appear.

Uncle, see,
make, appear.

What did I just ask
when I had the thermal camera?

Show yourself.
Make appear.

ZAK: Billy runs out of
the mine in excitement

and heads
back to the Phoenix mine

to share his evidence
with Bill Chappell.

Now I'm panning up
the railroad tracks,

straight back to the back
of the mine.

You...
Did you see it?

Did you see it?
Did you see it?

The hell do you think that is?

I got chills going
through my whole body.

Sound like a cave-in.
Scream!

Scream as loud as you can!

Outside of the Phoenix gold mine
ZAK: As our investigation
ZAK:

in Idaho Springs, Colorado,

we review Billy's
chilling footage.

BILLY: I asked to show itself.
MAN: Could it be a rat?

It's in the air.
ZAK: It's floating in air?

Yeah. Yeah. Wow.
Okay.

You ready?
There it is.

There it is.
There it is.

Oh, my gosh.
And you see?

That's the weird thing.
It was here.

And then it's, like,
it -- and it's...gone.

It -- it just lights up.
It's a heat sink.

And then it's gone.
Yesterday, the --

that lady in the mine
said that she caught

that photo of the spirit
with the lantern.

Oh.
Could that be...

It kinda looks like...

It does kinda
look like a lantern.

The old --
the old candle lantern

they used to wear on the head.

It's about that high.

It's about that high.
And this happened...

Dude, that's awesome.

That's some of
the neatest footage

I've ever seen.
Uh-huh.

Without a doubt, I've never
seen anything like that.

ZAK: It is now time for all of
us to participate

in Bill Chappell's
laser microphone experiment.

We're gonna run a high-powered,
ultraviolet laser...

Ooh.
Or over 1 watt.

ZAK: When the laser mic is
activated,

all you are supposed to hear

is this really soft
white noise sound.

If anything breaks
the laser beam,

like a person or a spirit,

strange noises will be heard
according to the energy

that is infused within.

Dust particles will not
affect the laser beam.

Can you hear us?
All of a sudden,

something strange
begins to happen.

[ Tinny playback ]

You know what it sounded like?
It sounded like a cave-in.

Yes.

Kinda.
Yeah.

Whole bunch of stuff
crumbling down and...

Gotta listen to that audio back,

I swear it sounds like somebody
was talking in it.

Yeah.

Do you need help?
Scream!

Scream as loud as you can!

The activity flatlines
on the laser microphone.

So we decide to move it
to the site of the collapse,

which is also where
the warlock's ashes were spread.

Can you step
in front of the laser?

Can you block the laser?

Can you do that?

Okay.
Dude.

Listen real close.

It sounds like...

I don't know if it's the static
making me think

I'm hearing something.

Probably was, like, something
going through the laser beam.

Maybe there's something
walking...

Hold on!

Yeah. It is.

Could you stop doing that?

[ Interference ]

I have no clue,
Zak.

Same thing that
we're doing there.

Yes.

Yeah.

No.

And then it just stopped.

No. I mean, I --
I was just --

when we first
turned on.

That's stuff that...
Right.

That huge rush of sound,
I -- I have no explanation.

Everything
was set up.

It was on. Nothing was moving.
It was dead on.

Extremely loud. Yes.

No.

During the unexplained
audio evidence

on the laser microphone,

one of the tripods
holding the transmitter

was mysteriously bent
in multiple places.

We came back
to reposition.

And that's everybody
noticed the tripod.

ZAK: How many legs?
Two of the three are bent.

My -- my present.

ZAK: Between the legend
of the Tommyknockers...

We just
heard knocks!

And there was
a little teeny-tiny figure.

And the very real miners
who lost their lives

in these dark caverns,

I will never enter another mine

without a deep respect

for what is forever left behind
in these shadows.
