Gargoyles (1994–1996): Season 2, Episode 38 - The Green - full transcript

The World Tourists arrive in a rainforest and find a gargoyle clan fighting furiously to defend it with the help of magic crystals that keep them from turning into stone during the day.

GOLIATH: 1,000 years ago,

superstition
and the sword ruled.

It was a time of darkness.

It was a world of fear.

It was the age of gargoyles.

Stone by day,

warriors by night.

(GUTTURAL SCREAM)

We were betrayed by the humans
we had sworn to protect,

frozen in stone
by a magic spell

for a thousand years.

Now, here in Manhattan...

the spell is broken

and we live again!

(DEEP GROWL)

We are Defenders of the Night.

We are Gargoyles!

NARRATOR:
Previously onGargoyles...

Tom! Get away from
those monsters! You beast!

Captain, we are most
seriously displeased

to allow beasts
in the dining hall.

No good can come
from associating with them.

-(ROARING)
-(SCREAMING)

Run!

I don’t get it.

Why would Avalon send us
to the middle of nowhere?

Could Avalon’s magic
have made a mistake?

Wait. What is that?

(GROWLING)

There! Up ahead.

I see it now!

ANGELA: We’re going to hit it!

(GASPS) So much for
the middle of nowhere.

GOLIATH:
Why is this place kept hidden?

Good question.

(WHIZZING)

You guys better
get out of sight.

No telling how
they’ll react to gargoyles.

Hi, there. I was just in
the neighborhood and...

KIRON: Can it be?
It looks like...

A human!

I knew this day was coming.

I don’t mean you any harm.

(GRUNTS)

Elisa!

(SNARLING)

Taurus! It’s an ambush!

Wait! Helios!

What is the meaning
of this attack?

We have no dispute
with you, gargoyle.

You know about gargoyles?

Yes, and we know
about humans as well.

-(BEEPS)
-(GASPS)

She will be taken
to the Senate House.

You may follow if you like.

Boreas will decide
the human’s fate.

This isn’t fair.
I haven’t done anything.

You are a human, and you are
trespassing on New Olympus.

-ELISA: But, uh...
-I don’t make the laws.

I just enforce them.

Let us meet this Boreas.

(BIRDS TWITTERING)

(INDISTINCT MURMURING)

What have they done with Elisa?

I intend to find out.

I am Boreas,
leader of the New Olympians.

We know of your
noble race, gargoyles.

Your words are kind, Boreas.

But we arrived with a friend,

a human.

(DOOR HISSING)

(MECHANICAL WHIRRING)

-(ALL GASPING)
-(LOUDER MURMURING)

Boreas, this is Elisa Maza.

She is not
guilty of any crime.

EKIDNA: All humans are guilty!

Thousands of years ago,
Olympians walked among humans,

but because of
the way we looked,

we were shunned, hunted!

BOREAS: Our ancestors fled
the human world

and created the kingdom
of New Olympus to be safe.

But you have nothing
to fear from thishuman.

She is our friend.

We will vouch for her.

(CROWD SHOUTING INDISTINCTLY)

OLYMPIAN:
Humans can’t live with us!

OLYMPIAN 2:
THEY’RE VERY DANGEROUS MAMMALS.

GOLIATH: Elisa is trustworthy.

She has kept our secret
in the human world.

She will keep yours, too.

EKIDNA:
If you expect us to trust her,
then you are a fool.

(CROWD PROTESTING)

But it’s not fair
to hold all humans responsible

for something that
happened centuries ago.

Give me a chance.

I believe you are sincere,

but I cannot afford to take

any chances with
my people’s safety.

TALOS: Perhaps she is correct.

We may need human allies.

Their technology
is progressing so quickly,

our cloaking device will not
be effective much longer.

Taurus, what is your advice?

My ancestor, the Minotaur,

was locked in
a labyrinth by humans.

Starved.
And then killed by a human hero.

I believe that
humans are dangerous.

(CROWD PROTESTING)

OLYMPIAN:
Humans can’t live with us!

They’re dangerous.
They’re animals!

Here is my decision.

I do not believe the human
has come to harm us.

However,
I cannot allow her to return

to the outside world.

The temptation
to reveal our secret
would be too great.

You gargoyles may
leave New Olympus,

but the human
shall remain our guest,

permanently.

(GASPS) You’ve
gotta be kidding!

I hope that over time
you will come

to feel at home here,
Elisa Maza.

-(MECHANICAL HISSING)
-TAURUS: Follow the rules

and you won’t
have any problems.

ANGELA: Why are
we putting up with this?

I don’t like it either,

but we cannot wage war
against an entire city.

Boreas seems reasonable.
He should soon realize

that Elisa poses
no threat to his people.

This place is pretty amazing.

I guess we should look around
while we have the chance.

(COUGHING)

What a stench!

It must be
coming from the human.

Just ignore him.

Boreas might
believe your claims

of innocence, but we do not!

OLYMPIANS: (SHOUTING)
Human lovers! Ruthless hunter!

Excuse me.

(GRUNTING)

-(SNARLING)
-Back, beast!

-Treacherous human!
-(ANGELA ROARS)

Enough!

You are under arrest, again.

She did not start this!

I don’t care who started it,
I know who caused it.

You’ve got some
funny ideas about
justice around here.

My job is keeping the peace

and that’s exactly
what I intend to do.

Son! Have mercy
on your poor father!

You put
your own father in jail?

That is not my father.

He’s right, of course.

Something
happened to his father.

Oh, yes, I remember.

I murdered him.

Who is that?

Proteus. He is not like
other New Olympians.

He is evil.

In his last attempt
to escape the island,

he killed the prior
security chief, my father.

I’m sorry.
My father and I are
both police officers.

(SIGHS) I don’t
know what I’d do
if something happened to him.

We might have more in common
than you realize, Taurus.

Make yourself comfortable.

You could be here for a while.

(DOOR SLAMS SHUT)

(CROWD PROTESTING)

OLYMPIAN: Death to humans!

EKIDNA: Give us the human!
We know what to do with her!

(GRUNTS)

Taurus. Taurus, wait!

They really don’t
like you here, do they? Heh.

OLYMPIAN:
Don’t trust the humans!

(PROTESTING)

-OLYMPIAN: Death to humans!
-Quiet down!

Move along,
or I’ll personally lock you
all up and throw away the key.

And, Helios,
you keep a check

on the pyrotechnics
or you’re out of a job.

(STAMMERS) Yes, sir.

This is not over, Taurus.

Not by a long shot.

If you’ve got a problem,
take it up with Boreas.

PROTEUS: Oh, human...

What were you
and your gargoyle friends

doing in
the middle of the ocean?

None of your business.

PROTEUS: How did you plan
on getting back?

We have ways of getting
from one place to another.

Hmm. The plot thickens.

GOLIATH: Boreas,
I have come to protest
your treatment of Elisa.

I heard about the riot,
Goliath.

With the security of
our people at stake,

I think Taurus was wise
to quarantine your friend.

But that is unjust.
Elisa didn’t start the fight.

If you imprison Elisa,
you should imprison us all.

Please, Goliath.

This is
a necessary precaution,

for your friend’s
safety as well.

-But...
-We understand.

Thank you for
your time, Boreas.

It is not safe
for Elisa here.

You two return to the skiff.

We must leave before
another day passes.

But what about Elisa?

Just be ready to go
the instant we arrive.

(YAWNING)

(GASPS)

ELISA: It’s about time.

Stop! There’s a force field.

We don’t want you getting fried
before you free me.

There’s the control panel.

PROTEUS: (MIMICKING ELISA)
Flip the switches.

Now, use the key.

PROTEUS: (IN NORMAL VOICE)
Nice work.

Who are you?

What have you done with Elisa?

It’s a long story.

(GROANS)

I wouldn’t want to bore you.

I hope you’ll
find the place homey.

I know I did.

(ROARING)

Goliath?

Goliath? Is that you?

Elisa! Elisa, it’s me!

This shape shifter
has locked me in here!

Who is that guy?

(ROARS)

ELISA: Ignore him.
He’s a criminal.
He deserves to be here.

But you don’t. Stand back.

Come.
There’s no time to waste.

(GRUNTS)

-Coming?
-Yes. Thank you.

Taurus! The human has escaped!

Kiron said he was ambushed
by the big gargoyle.

They escaped together.

Not from my jail,
they haven’t.

Hurry. They’re sure to be
looking for us by now.

Goliath should be here by now.
It’s almost daylight.

(GASPS)

Where is the human?

Isn’t she still
unjustly imprisoned?

(MECHANICAL WHIRRING)

(BRONX GROWLING)

I don’t think
they’ll be going anywhere.

(PANTING)

(VEHICLE APPROACHING)

Goliath, in all the excitement
I didn’t even notice.

It’s daylight and
you’re not stone!

Yes, uh,
the island’s cloaking device

must alter the sun’s rays.

You go on to the boat.

We’ll need
a diversion to escape.

What did you have in mind?

The island’s power source
is in the Collonadium.

If I overload it,

the fireworks
should keep the locals busy.

You mean,
you’re gonna blow it up?

Why not? They deserve it
for the way they treated you.

I’ll go get everything ready.

You be careful.

Oh, don’t worry.

I’ll be traveling incognito.

(LAUGHING)

Listen, Proteus has escaped.

He’s masquerading
as my friend, Goliath.

You had to attack me
to tell me that?

Would you have listened
if I just called you over?

Frankly, no!

(GRUNTS)

(GASPS)

(IGNITION CHOKING)

Any sign of the human, Talos?

TALOS: Not to my knowledge.

Taurus, if you continue
to overload the system,

you could trigger
an explosion big enough to
destroy the entire island.

Now why would I want to go
and do a thing like that?

I cannot speculate
as to your motives.

But I must
insist you stop now.

(BEEPING)

I guess you’re the expert.

Thank you for
your cooperation.

PROTEUS:
You know, on second thought,

maybe we will
just let it blow up.

ELISA: Yoo-hoo!

Betcha can’t catch me.

(LAUGHS) You’ll have
to do better than that.

(BEEPING)

Now what?
I thought we had a plan.

What are you doing?

You led Taurus right to me.

That was the idea, Proteus.

(GROANING)

Don’t interfere, gargoyle.

She’s all yours.

He’s no gargoyle, Taurus.

If that was Goliath,
he’d be a stone statue.

And he wouldn’t be trying
to blow up your island.

Then who is--? Proteus.

Well, Taurus, shall we dance?

(ROARS)

(GRUNTS)

(STRUGGLING)

(RUMBLING)

Isn’t this nice.

Like father,

like son.

(SCREAMS)

This is for my father.

-(RUMBLING)
-(MECHANICAL WHIRRING)

That should hold
you until you’re back
in your cell permanently.

I don’t understand.

You didn’t have
to come back here.

You could have escaped.

With my friends
turned to stone?

Besides,
what kind of cop would I be

if I let a slime
like Proteus get away?

You are definitely not like
the humans of legend.

I’ll choose to take
that as a compliment.

You know, they’re not so bad

once you get to know them.

She was the first human

to visit New Olympus
in 2,000 years,

but she probably
won’t be the last.

We’re not going to be able
to hide forever.

Yes. The time may soon come

when the world
will have to face

the New Olympians.
