Gargoyles (1994–1996): Season 2, Episode 35 - Pendragon - full transcript

King Arthur, Griff and the Manhattan Clan battle against Macbeth for possession of the ancient sword, Excalibur.

GOLIATH:
1,000 years ago,

superstition
and the sword ruled.

It was a time of darkness.

It was a world of fear.

It was the age of gargoyles.

Stone by day,

warriors by night.

(GUTTURAL SCREAM)

We were betrayed by the humans
we had sworn to protect,

frozen in stone
by a magic spell

for a thousand years.

Now, here in Manhattan...

the spell is broken

and we live again!

(DEEP GROWL)

We are Defenders of the Night.

We are Gargoyles!

Okay, pal...

GOLIATH:
Previously on Gargoyles...

(SCREAMING)

(GASPS)

Who? What are you?

My kind have no names.

But you humans call me Goliath.

We didn’t think you’d make it.

I wouldn’t have missed this
if I had to swim!

Hmm... What a peculiar sight.

Elisa, do you have any idea
where we are?

-Elisa?
-She fell asleep.

Good. She guards us
in daylight while we sleep

and forgets to rest herself.

ANGELA: They’re unlike anything
I’ve ever seen.

GOLIATH: Avalon sent us here,
we should try to find out why.

(MONITOR BEEPING)

Bronx, stay and guard Elisa.

-(GROWLS IN CONSENT)
-(BARKS)

(ELECTRONIC WHIRRING)

This stone looks so old.

Perhaps they were erected
by an ancient race

to ward off long-forgotten
enemies.

(SNIFFING)

(GROWLING)

Um... How...
How did I end up here?

The skiff! Where’s the skiff?

(VICIOUS GROWLING)

Bronx!

(GASPS)

Bronx! What happened to him?

Elisa’s gone!

(MOANING)

(BARKING)

(SNIFFING AND BARKING)

He seems disoriented.

He may not be able to pick up
Elisa’s scent.

We’ll have to do this
the hard way.

Cover as much ground as you can.

We’ll meet back here
a half hour before dawn.

(GROWLING)

Now, that’s odd.

Odd indeed.

Perhaps she became separated
from one of those tour groups.

You often go wandering about

by yourself at night,
young lady?

-Who are you?
-I’m Professor Lydia Duane,

and this is my colleague,
Dr. Arthur Morwood-Smyth.

We’re archaeologists
here on holiday.

Then how about telling me
exactly where "here" is?

And for that matter, who I am?

(GRUNTING)

(GRUNTS)

My dear, are you saying
you don’t remember
your own name?

I can’t seem to
remember anything.

I feel lucky
I know how to talk!

Well, we can at least tell you
where you are.

Perhaps that
will jog your memory.

The natives call this land
Rapa Nui.

In modern times, it’s become

far better known
as Easter Island.

Easter Island?

How did I end up
in the middle of the Pacific?

Well, I can’t answer that,
my dear,

but we certainly aren’t going
to leave you

wandering about
in your condition.

Yeah, well...
I guess I could use a ride.

GOLIATH: Elisa!
She appears unharmed.

But what could have possessed
her to go off with those two?

ELIZA: According to my wallet,
my name is Elisa Maza,

and I’m
a New York City policewoman.

I thought you looked familiar.

We’ve met before.

Do you remember
the Scrolls of Merlin?

No. I’m sorry.

Do you know what a scroll is?

Of course.

Well, you can be grateful
your memory

of general knowledge
appears to be intact.

Yeah.
I’m jumping for joy here, Doc.

You seem healthy to me.

I’m not a psychiatrist,
but if I had to guess,

I’d say you’ve
suffered some kind of
severe emotional trauma.

Your mind is temporarily
blocking out things

that are too painful
to remember.

ELISA:
You mean like my whole life?

Is there nothing you can
do for her, Doctor Arnada?

I’m out of my depth here.

But my brother in Honolulu
is a neurologist.

He can check for possible
brain damage

and refer her to
any necessary specialists.

Capital idea.

We’ll book Miss Maza
on the next flight out.

GOLIATH: I’m afraid
I cannot allow that.

Merciful heavens!

(GASPS)

-What in the...
-No time to explain, Elisa.

You’re coming with me.

Stay back!

(GUN CLICKS)

Not another step or I’ll
shoot you where you stand.

All right, I warned you.

(GUN CLICKS REPEATEDLY)

This isn’t my night.

(GRUNTS)

Ah, like kicking a brick wall.

(GROWLS)

Unh! Let go, monster!

Let go!

We must save her!

(GROANING)

(BOTH MEN GRUNT)

Elisa, stop struggling.
It’s me, Goliath.

We are friends.

Get your claws off of me!

You may want to reconsider
your request.

ELISA:
Oh, we’re gonna die!

I will not let anything
harm you.

You win. I’ll behave.

At least while
we’re this high up.

I suppose that’s a start.

A lot of good this did me.

I cannot believe
you pulled the trigger on me.

Yeah?

Well, I can’t believe I was
carrying an empty revolver.

What kinda cop am I?

A very good one.

It’s not your fault.

You’ve been out of bullets
since we left Avalon.

Try to remember.

Just shut up and land.

GOLIATH:
Elisa, please...

We have been friends for over
a year. Good friends.

We’ve been traveling together

with my daughter
Angela and Bronx.

Whoa, Tiny,
you mean there’s
more than one of you?

My name is not Tiny.

I am Goliath.

Think.

The castle. Xanatos.

Gargoyles.

Stop it! Stop it!

I just don’t remember.

I’m not even sure
I want to remember.

Someone has done this to you.

I swear they will pay.

ANGELA:
How many ways can I say it?

We mean you no harm.

(SIGHS)
It’s no use, Bronx.

He doesn’t understand
a word I say.

(GROWLS)

NOKKAR:
On the contrary.

I understand your words.

I simply do not believe them.

You have been long expected.

I know you were sent here
to take this world.

Take this world?

Take it where?

Who do you think we are?

We both know
the answer to that, space-spawn.

Now you are going to help me
capture your leader.

Not if it costs me my life.

One thing at a time,please.

Unh!

ELISA:
That’s some story, all right.

Gargoyle clans, mutated
brothers, magic spells...

You threw in everything
but King Arthur and
the Holy Grail.

Yes. Well, we haven’t
encountered

the Holy Grail yet.

It’s too much.

Even with you standing here
as proof, it’s too much.

I can’t even remember
what my parents look like,

and you expect me to trust you?

Trust your instincts, Elisa.
I always have.

Instincts? So far,
all I’ve got are doubts.

And right now they’re mostly
about you.

How can I be sure
we’re even on the same side?

How do I know you didn’t cause
my amnesia to gain my trust?

GOLIATH: Angela!

(PANTING)

Uh... I cannot believe
I’m doing this.

Angela, what happened?

What is this?

A trap!

Tiny!

Elisa, stay back!

Behind you!

(GRUNTS)

(GASPS)

You are mine, alien.

Are you all right?

I created the hologram
of the female

to lure this alien
away from you.

Do you know me, too?

You have forgotten,

but my name is Nokkar.

I assure you it will all
come back to you soon.

Are you the cause
of my amnesia?

Yes.

A temporary side effect

of the process
I used to neutralize

the enemy’s mind-tampering.

This creature,
he messed with my mind?

It is a common enemy ploy.

After I came to your rescue,

you tried to convince me
they were your friends.

You had clearly
been brainwashed.

But do not be afraid.

True memories
will return in a few days,

untarnished by this monster’s
false programming.

And to think...

I was starting
to trust this Goliath.

The hardships
of the Galactic War

taught me long ago that trust

is a rare
and precious commodity.

Not to be given lightly.

-Nokkar...
-Yes?

Look. He messed with my head.
You messed with my head.

No offense,
but I’ve got to know the truth.

I believe
that can be arranged.

Come. You shall be my guest.

(SCOFFS)
Terrific.

ANGELA:
Goliath, please wake up.

Angela! Bronx!

You’re all right?

So far.

(BARKING)

Where are we?

ANGELA: We’re on a spaceship
hidden beneath the island.

Our foe claims to be
from another planet.

Because of the way we look,

he believes we are aliens
to this world, too.

What about Elisa? Is she here?

He’s showing her
around the ship.

But don’t expect
any help from her.

For some reason,
she doesn’t remember us at all.

I found that out for myself.
What else can you tell me?

Nokkar is a soldier.

His fleet is defending
our galaxy

from an army
of interstellar invaders.

Earth has been a strategic
outpost ever since
the war began.

So centuries ago,
they dispatched Nokkar here

to act as a sentinel.

Centuries ago?

(GRUNTS)

What I don’t understand

is why he has attacked
and imprisoned us.

He believes we’re spies,

sent here by the alien invaders
that they’re at war with.

(BARKING)

I am Nokkar.

Your face...

NOKKAR: Yes, a familiar image
on this island.

The megaliths were
a lasting tribute,

erected by the natives
I befriended long ago

and swore to protect.

I have been at this watch
for eons.

I was starting
to question my mission.

I even considered abandoning
my post.

And then you three arrived.

I cannot identify your planet
of origin,

but there is little doubt
who sent you.

We were not sent
by your invaders.

We are native to this world.

An ancient race
known as gargoyles.

Is that true?

I’m not sure but...

I always thought gargoyles

were nothing more
than stone statues.

Elisa, you do not know
what you’re saying.

He’s done something to you!

You must remember us!

(BARKING)

Look, stow the melodrama.
I’m immune.

Nokkar warned me how devious
you invader types can be.

NOKKAR:
Do not worry, Elisa.

In a few moments, your planet
will have nothing to fear
from these three.

What exactly does that mean?

A sentinel is not permitted
to take prisoners.

But I am not devoid
of compassion.

I am choosing a beam setting

that will guarantee
a merciful end.

You’re the one
who will require mercy, Nokkar,

when you realize you have
taken three lives needlessly.

Stop, human!
You are aiding the enemy!

(BRONX BARKING)

(GROWLING)

(GRUNTS)

(VICIOUS GROWLING)

(KEYS PRESSING RAPIDLY)

(GRUNTING)

(GROWLING)

I can see the stars above us!

Good! That means the blast
went straight through!

Your turn, boy.

(BARKING)

(GRUNTS)

(GROWLING)

Tell your
space-spawn masters

that Nokkar will never
abandon his post!

(GRUNTS)

(GROANING)

(GROWLING)

You fool!
You’ll destroy us both.

NOKKAR: Ah!

(LOW GROWLING)

(BARKING)

(GROANING)

Head for the skiff.

The skiff?

Goliath, she doesn’t know
what we’re talking about.

Her memory never came back.

I don’t understand.

Then why did you help us?

NOKKAR:
It no longer matters.

I will forgive
your lapse in judgment, human,

if you step away from them now.

I can’t do that.

Maybe I’m missing some memories,

but I still have
my instincts.

And they tell me these
creatures are my friends.

And you trust these instincts

enough to risk your life,
your world?

I do.

Then you leave me no choice.

I must believe them, too.

My mind-cleansing process
destroys only false memories.

The loyalty you feel returning
must be genuine.

Though we come
from different worlds,

we have our mission in common.

We are both protectors.

Guardians.

Sentinels.

It is a lonely existence.

It does not have to be.

I remember.

In times past,
I shared my mission

with the natives
of this isle.

But that was centuries ago.

Who could I trust now?

Look! There!

ELISA: Well, you could
start with them.

They’re good people.
Just like you.

Come, Elisa. We should go.

ELISA:
For all Nokkar knows,

his Galactic War could have
ended centuries ago.

And yet, he’ll stay at his post,
ever-vigilant.

I can’t remember yet
if I’ve got that sense of duty.

But I have a feeling
you guys do.
