Gargoyles (1994–1996): Season 2, Episode 27 - Monsters - full transcript

The adventurers tour continues at Loch Ness. Angela is captured by a familiar enemy, and some personal history is revealed.

GOLIATH: One thousand
years ago,

superstition
and the sword ruled.

It was a time of darkness.

It was a world of fear.

It was the age of Gargoyles.

Stone by day,

warriors by night.

(ROARS)

We were betrayed by the humans
we had sworn to protect,

frozen in stone
by a magic spell

for a thousand years.

Now, here in Manhattan,

the spell is broken

and we live again!

(GROWLING)

GOLIATH: We are Defenders
of the Night.

We are Gargoyles!

Avalon sends you
where you need to be!

NARRATOR:
Previously onGargoyles...

I accept full responsibility
for my actions.

I’m glad you’re
Gargoyle enough to admit it.

It was not easy.

Integrity is never easy.
It’s a daily struggle.

RENARD: Your debt to me
has been paid in full.

A ship for a ship.

-We are even.
-No. We are friends.

(CHUCKLES) Yes. Friends.

(SIREN WAILING)

(TIRES SCREECHING)

(TIRES SQUEAL)

(WAILING SIREN CONTINUES)

(TIRES SQUEAL)

COP: Brod! Stop.

Sorry, I can’t stay!

(BROD LAUGHS)

Ugh!

ELISA: (SIGHS)
Where are we now?

(GASPS)

Renard?

Who’s that?

An old friend, who might be able
to help get us home.

I will meet you
back at this tower
after I find Renard.

(THUDS)

(WIND HOWLING)

ELISA: You guys wait here
for Goliath.

I’m gonna find out
where we are.

We’ll wait atop the tower.

(GROANS) I’m sorry.

I’m sort of lost.

You are American.
What are you looking for?

(CHUCKLES) New York.

That is a long way
from Prague.

I am late.
Please excuse me.

(LOCK CLICKING)

Wait!

Hi, I was just...

(SIGHS) ...looking
for a pay phone.

Prague seems about
as friendly as New York.

You were followed?
Brod’s people?

She’s just a lost tourist.

This isn’t going to work.

Many more learned
than I have tried.

But Rabbi Loew
is your ancestor.

He spoke to you.

In a dream. He told me

the sacred words
to write in a dream.

So, write.
To the mystics,

dreams are more powerful
than waking thoughts.

Your dream
reveals your destiny.

You are the chosen one.

Which doesn’t
leave me any choice.

BROD:
Yes. Very impressive...

Forget about money.
I take this as payment.

Very well, Mr. Brod.
The hovercraft is yours to keep,

if you deliver
the item specified.

This is no problem.
(SNAPS FINGERS)

(ENGINE STARTING)

All we can do now
is wait, sir.

GOLIATH: Renard.
It is good to see
you again, my friend.

Ah, I thought it was you.

I don’t know what
you’re doing here,

but I have
to ask you to leave.

But I am in need of a favor.

Can’t you see
I’m in no condition

to grant favors?

Go. Now!

How did you get here?

A better question would be,
"How do I get home?"

Well, that would be
your problem.

Mr. Renard has made it clear
he can’t help you.

Goodbye.

It takes a powerful will
to summon the Golem.

Then find the will.
Brod must be stopped.

But the Golem hasn’t opened
its eyes for over 400 years.

(PEOPLE SCREAMING)

(PANTING)

(GROANS)

(LAUGHING VICIOUSLY)

(GRUNTS)

(DISTANT WAILING)

(RECITING IN HEBREW)

(GROWLS)

(IN ENGLISH) You have been
given the breath of life
for a purpose.

To protect our community.

(BABY CRYING)

(GRUNTS)

(SCREAMING)

Stop... Please...

-(GLASS SHATTERS)
-(YELPING)

(GROANS)

Beware, all who seek
to intimidate and destroy.

You must now face the Golem!

(SIGHS) What if
it doesn’t like me?

Now we find out
if dreams come true.

(FOOTSTEPS APPROACHING)

(RECITING IN HEBREW)

(GROWLING)

(IN ENGLISH) What?

Move it!

Who are you?
What do you want?

(ENGINE WHIRRING)

Don’t be clever.

Get out!

Act your age, old man.

(GRUNTS)

Brod! I should have known!

It will be all right.

BROD: Careful. Don’t want
to knock its head off.

(BROD LAUGHS EVILLY)

Something has changed Renard.

Goliath, look!

GOLIATH: That is the craft
I saw at Renard’s.

Come!

(THUDDING)

(GUNSHOTS FIRING)

Evasive action!

What are those things?

(BARKING)

Bronx? Wait up!

(GUNSHOTS CONTINUE FIRING)

Hit it, Bronx!

(GROWLS)

ELISA: Don’t worry.
We’re the good guys.

(GASPS)

(GASPS)

(GROANING)

(GRUNTS)

(GRUNTING)

Goliath!

What is happening?

That is precisely what
we would like to know.

So this Golem is a protector?

Yes, but the spell to awaken it

had been lost
for over 400 years.

The Golem sat lifeless
in this room,

until tonight when
it was stolen by Tomas Brod.

And Brod’s the reason we need
the Golem so badly now.

He and his criminal mob
are making life impossible

for the innocent
and law-abiding.

I failed to stop him.
This is all my fault.

No. Brod is to blame
and possibly one other.

Where are you going?

To talk to someone
I thought I knew.

I was chosen to guide the Golem
and I lost it my first night.

Don’t give up.
It sounds like

the Golem needs you
as much as you need it.

No wonder Renard
was unhappy to see me.

Proceed, Mr. Vogel.

No!

I told you to leave me alone.

You are a man of
great integrity, Renard.

What has happened?

Integrity is a luxury
I can no longer afford.

My illness
has seen to that.

I discovered an incantation

which will transfer my soul
into the Golem.

It is my last chance
to move, to live again.

This Golem protects
the people of Prague.

What you are doing is wrong.

-(BEEPS)
-I don’t recall
asking for your opinion.

(RECITING IN HEBREW)

(GROWLS)

(RECITING IN HEBREW)

(IN ENGLISH) It worked.
I can walk!

I can feel again.

Stop this travesty, Renard.

Step aside.
I don’t want trouble.

Then don’t chose this path.
Turn back now.

It is too late to turn back.

(STRAINING)

(GOLIATH GRUNTING)

I will not be
deprived of life!

(GROANS)

(COUGHS)

That should take
the wind out of him.

Vogel,
guard that decrepit body.

It’s possible we may need it.

I feel like taking a walk.

Of course, sir.

(GRUNTS)

(LAUGHING)

(GLASS SHATTERS)

Now this is living.

-Whoa!
-(TIRES SQUEAL)

(LAUGHS)
Instant respect.

I could get used to this!

(WHIMPERING)

Oh, come on, Goliath...

(CRASHING)

(BARKING)

(GROWLING)

What has happened to you?

Your purpose is to defend,
not to destroy!

I am defending myself.

One of these books
might contain a spell

to banish me
from this clay.

The Golem is possessed!

(GRUNTS)

(GROANS)

Don’t make me hurt you.

(GROWLS)

(GROANS)

I warned her.

You’re enjoying this.

No, you don’t understand.

Eh, it’s not my fault.
I have no choice.

-There is always a choice.
-Out of my way.

No. The Golem depends on me
to guide him wisely.

Then you’ll guide us
out of here!

Renard!

Stop this madness!

A weak body is no excuse
for a corrupt spirit.

(GROANS)

How can you judge me?

(GROANS)

Your body has
not betrayed you.

Our judgments
do not matter.

You must be able to
live with yourself.

And if I can’t,
what’s my alternative?

Accept my fate?

Quietly wither away
to nothing?

My friend,
is this a better destiny?

Giving up all you believe in
for a piece of clay?

What have I become?

Welcome back, Mr. Renard.

You do not face
the future alone, my friend.

What will you do now?

Make a choice.

Face my destiny.
Reclaim our home.

Hurry up.

(LAUGHS) Look at this!

Even the army won’t be able
to stop us now.

It’s over, Brod.
Surrender while you can.

You are becoming
a nuisance.

(GASPS)

What’s going on?

(GOLIATH GRUNTS)

Hi, there.

(GRUNTS)

(GROANING)

No! This is not right.

You must follow the words
of our ancestors.

"Love justice and do mercy."

Your city
is in capable hands.

And you get used
to the weirdness.

Goliath, you saved my soul,

if not my life.

Can’t I at least repay you

by transporting you all
back to New York?

No. I have
my own destiny to face.

I realize now
that the hand of fate

has guided us to every place
we’ve gone on our journey.

I must see it
through to the end.

But, Elisa, if you wish
to return with Renard...

(SCOFFS)
Are you kidding?

You guys would be lost
without me.

Besides, I’ve got
some vacation time coming.

Let’s go home, Mr. Vogel.
I’m tired.

VOGEL: It has been
an adventure, sir.
