♫ They call him Flipper, Flipper

♫ Faster than lightning

♫ No one you see is smarter than he

in a world full of wonder

♫ Lying there under, under the sea

- Hey, Dad, there's Flipper.

- What's he want?

- What's on your mind, boy?

- What is it Flipper, Bud?

- Bud's safe, he's in a
dentist's chair, remember?

- Yeah.

Let's see what he wants.

- This it, Flipper?

Is there something down
there you want us to see?

That's funny.

- Yeah, looks like a false alarm.

- Well, I guess Flipper
can make mistakes too, huh?

- Don't tell Bud, you'll
shatter his faith.

- Well, let's go.

- Hey, Dad, look.

Looks like somebody's planning on doing

some fishing over here.

- Yeah, it sure does.

Hi, I'm Porter Ricks,
I'm the park ranger here.

This is my son, Sandy.

This is quite an
interesting rig you've got.

- I'm on oceanographer from
the Southern Marine Institute.

The equipment's for some
projects I'm working on.

- What, here in the park?

- Oh, you probably want to see my permit.

- Thank you.

Scott Emson.

New England, huh?

Well, looks in order, thank you very much.

Can you tell me what projects
you're working on now?

- Fish migrations, water currents.

Nothing that will hurt the
inhabitants of the park,

human or otherwise.

I mean, I'm not working with explosives

or anything like that.

Right now I'm testing
a new shark repellent.

There you are again.

Odd thing happened a while ago.

I was working with the repellent,

and when a shake come along,

that dolphin insisted upon rescuing me.

- That's Flipper, he's our pet dolphin,

my brother's and mine.

He's trained to do that.

Guess that's what he was
trying to show us, huh Dad?

- Yeah, I guess so.

- Pet dolphin, well,
that explains it then.

It's going to make my work
with the sharks a bit rough

if he insists on saving me.

- Well, I'll try and explain to Flipper.

Flipper.

- Now, what a minute, Sandy.

We all know that Flipper's
a very bright dolphin,

but I don't think any dolphin's
smart enough to understand

the intricacies of his work.

How long you gonna be working
with your shark experiments?

- Couple of days maybe.

- Alright, I think we can pen
Flipper up for a couple days.

- He won't like it.

- Maybe you could explain to him

it's in the interest of science.

Anyway, I'd sure appreciate it.

- Well, you're welcome.

We'll see you later.

If you need any more help,
give us a call, alright?

- Come on, Flipper.

- Come on, Flipper, you
heard what the man said.

It's all in the interest of science.

Good boy.

Don't worry, it won't be for long.

- Why don't you drive, Sandy?

- Hi there.

- Hello.

Could one of you could tell
me whether there's a place

closer than the Coral
Sports Shop where I can

get some air for my tanks?

- No, sir, there isn't.

- Talk about your absentminded professors.

Went out this morning and
forgot to take enough air.

- Mister...

- Emson, Scott Emson.

- Got an extra tank here.

You can use it if you like.

- Sure would save me a lot of time,

but let me rent it from you.

- It's okay, you've got an honest face.

Be my guest.

- Can't tell you how grateful I am.

Have it back around noon.

- We'll be here all day.

- Good luck.

- Well I could major in science
and special in oceanography.

- Coast Guard calling WD9598.

Come in, WD9598.

Coast Guard calling WD9598.

- Go ahead, Coast Guard,
this is WD9598, over.

- Porter, this is
Jackson at rescue renter.

Are you anywhere near North Beach, over?

- Yeah, Coast Guard, about a half a mile

from North Beach, over.

- We had a distress
call from a diver anchored

off North Beach.

You probably can reach him
quicker than we can, over.

- Roger, Jackson, I'm on the way.

Any further instructions?

- No, just check
with us later, will you?

Over and out.

- Will do, WD9598 out.

Okay, Sandy.

- Over here, over here!

- What's the matter?

- I don't know.

- Hold the boat, Sandy.

- We started to dive, and all
of a sudden he blacked out.

- Sandy, get me the oxygen
bottle and a mask, quick.

. Okay"

- What's the matter?

- Looks like carbon
monoxide poisoning to me.

- Here you are, Dad.

- Breathe deeply, breathe.

- Are you alright?

- I guess so.

What happened?

- The ranger here says
that you were poisoned

by carbon monoxide.

- Carbon monoxide?

- Did you use this compressor
to fill those bottles?

- Yes.

- No wonder, look at this.

The air intake hose got a hole burnt in it

from your engine exhaust.

You weren't only
breathing carbon monoxide,

you were breathing carbon
monoxide under pressure.

If she hadn't gotten
you up or we didn't have

an oxygen bottle, you'd be dead.

- That was close.

- It sure was.

Did you fill those bottles
from that compressor?

Well, you better get rid of those.

They've got bad air too.

We will.

- Okay, but I'm gonna need your name

to fill out my report.

- Wait a minute.

Emson, wasn't that his name, the diver?

- That's right, about a half an hour ago

we loaned one of our tanks to a man.

- Did you use this
compressor to fill the tank

that you gave him?

- Yes, sir.

- Did he say where he was going?

- He didn't say.

- Well, which way did he go?

- Generally in that direction.

- Thank you.

Let's hope we're not too late.

Go!

Scott!

Scott!

- His skiff's not here, Dad.

- Yeah, I'm gonna take a look around.

Hold the wheel.

Scott, Scott?

Well, his diving gear's gone,

but there's a couple marks on this chart.

If he's out diving already,
we may be too late.

Sandy, call the Coast Guard.

- He's gonna be awfully
hard for 'em to spot.

- I know, it's gonna be
up to us and this chart.

- WD9598..

- Hiya, Flipper, what
are you doing in the pen?

Oh, I see what happened.

Pete pulled the rope on
the gate and locked you in.

I'll just go up the house
and change my clothes.

You wanna go look for some
shells on North Beach?

No more tricks, Pete.

- Well, that's one more spot he's not at.

- You know, he might
not be at any of these

marked spots, Dad.

- That's true, Sandy,

but we don't have any other place to look.

- Next stop is North Point.

. Okay"

- Flipper, what are you
going over there for?

There's no shells there.

Alright.

- Oh come on, not you again.

- Hiya, you know Flipper?

- Unfortunately I do.

I suppose you're Bud Ricks.

- Yeah, how do you know?

- I'm Scott Emson.

I'm doing some very
important scientific work,

and I don't want your
dolphin interfering again.

- Oh, Flipper won't interfere.

He'll help you.

In fact.

Flipper?

Hey, where'd he go?

Oh, so that's why he was penned up.

- Exactly, and I'd appreciate
if you put him back there.

- Okay, Flipper won't get in
your way though, I promise.

- Alright.

- Flipper, come on, let's go.

Flipper.

- Well, that's last spot
on the chart, what now?

- Well, I guess we go home.

Now wait a minute, we haven't
checked around the point.

Let's take one look over there.

- Hey, hey, look, come on, beat it.

Come on, sorry.

Go on home, I don't want any help.

- Flipper, what are you doing?

- He's messing up another experiment,

that's what he's doing.

I told you to get him
out of here, now do it!

- Flipper, you gotta
leave Mr. Emson alone.

- Dad, look.

- Yeah, that's Scott alright,

and it looks like he's ready to go in.

- Hi, Dad, what are you doing?

Dad?

- How do you feel?

- Like I was knocked unconscious.

- Well, you were, and almost permanently.

- What?

- That tank you borrowed, it
was full of carbon monoxide.

- Your color's better, I
think you'll be alright,

but if I were you, I'd take
the rest of the day off.

- Wait a minute, carbon monoxide.

Then you just saved my life.

- That's right.

It's a good thing Flipper
got in the way, huh?

- That's true.

No hard feelings I hope.

- Nah.

- Honestly, though, I'm
grateful to Flipper,

but how am I gonna test
my repellent on sharks

if he keeps rescuing me?

- Hey, why don't you let
Flipper hold the camera?

- I think I could use some
help from the whole family.
