Flipper (1964–1967): Season 1, Episode 13 - Lady and the Dolphin: Part 2 - full transcript

Hap pressures the boys to take Congresswoman Browning on an underwater tour of the park as she considers its possible closure, but technical problems threaten the lives of the divers.

- Sorry, Flipper-

Can't play now.

Oh, Flipper, now see what you've done?

How do you expect to
keep my company manners

with you splashing me like that?

Oh, Flipper.

That's it, the visiting Congress
lady will close the park

unless we're on our very best behavior.

We got show her the boondoggle.

Because you see, Flipper,
we haven't been doing

too well until now, and
if we don't do any better,

well, you and I can't be together anymore.

If only that Hap Gorman hadn't written

that letter to Washington.

This whole thing wouldn't have started

just because of his taxes.

- Cheer up, sport.

All's not lost.

- Yeah, it's not that, Dad.

It's, I don't know how
Flipper would take it

if we had to move away.

- I think Flipper and I are more worried

how you'd take being separated from him.

Listen, Bud, I've got to
go out on an emergency.

If the Congresswoman should arrive,

you and Sandy hold the
fort until I get back.

Okay?

. Okay-

- And get that chin up, huh?

- It's all right, Flipper.

You don't have to worry about me.

I'll be all right.

Oh, Flipper.

♫ They call him Flipper, Flipper

♫ Faster than lightning

♫ No one you see

♫ ls smarter than he

♫ And we know Flipper

♫ Lives in a world full of wonder

♫ Lying there under, under the sea

Oh boy, this tastes awful.

Like ground up swim fins.

- Yeah, mine too.

- I wonder how Flipper's
gonna get along without us,

when we go to Death Valley.

- Death Valley?

- That's what Dad said.

He said, with our luck,
if they close the park,

he'd probably be
transferred to Death Valley.

And you know something,
they say it's so hot there

that you could fry something on the rocks.

- You know who'd I'd like to fry?

' Who?

- Hap Gorman.

Dad's not here, Hap.

He had to go to town
to Ranger Headquarters.

- Well, that's that.

If I may use your phone I
can call Erna at the hotel

and have her book us on an earlier flight.

- Now just a minute, your Honor.

As a special favor to
me, her Honor has agreed

to stay here and to take a
look at the underwater park.

Now I gave her some scuba gear...

- Rented me scuba gear.

- Yes, ma'am.

Rented her some scuba
gear so that she could,

well, feast her eyes on
this stupendous beauty.

Now, honest, ma'am, there
ain't a sight like it

in the whole United States
that'll even match it.

Why it's truly a gift of
God to us poor mortals.

- If he intended it as a gift,

lam going to make
certain that the taxpayers

do not have to foot the bill.

- Well, but ma'am, you've
got to see it for yourself

before you decide.

- Mr. Gorman, how can I see it?

I'm going off to Washington in a few hours

and Mr. Ricks isn't here.

Do you dive, Mr. Gorman?

- Who me?

- Mmm-hmm.

- No, no, but the boys
dive, don't you boys?

- Sure we do, yeah.

- Well now, why don't you
take Mrs. Browning diving?

- We can't Hap.

Dad left us here on duty.

- Yeah, we got to stick
by the boom and the radio.

- Well now, if her Honor
was forced to close the park

and you boys had to move away from here,

I'd, well, I'd sure miss ya.

And, well, me and old
Flipper would just be lost.

- Okay, Hap-

Okay, hold it.

' AYE, aye, Skipper.

- We're lucky.

The water's perfect.

- Good.

- Keep following us and
stay right over our bubbles.

' AYE, aye, Skipper.

- Don't worry,
Flipper will protect us.

- Flipper?

' Here we go.

- All right.

- Hello.

- Hap, Hap, let me
speak to Sandy or Bud, will you?

- Hi, Porter, they're not here.

- What do you mean they're not there?

Where are they?

- Well, I, I, well they
went out for a little while.

- Where'd they go?

- Well, I don't know
exactly where they went

but the last time I saw
them they had their tanks,

they were with the Congresswoman

and they were getting in a boat.

- The boys are out scuba
diving with the Congress lady.

Hap must have put them up to it.

Now Hap, you listen to me.

- Uh huh.

- There's a hurricane
coming up over the Bahamas

and it's headed this way.

- Well, I don't know
exactly where they went

and signal them to come back.

I'll get there as quick as I can.

You understand?

- Yes, yes sir.

I understand Mr. Ricks.

- See you later.

.Bud?

Hey Bud!

Hey Bud!

- You know, I can understand
Bud listening to you,

but Sandy, he's older
he should know better.

- I was just trying to help, Po.

I was trying to straighten things out.

I'm gonna go with you, Po.

- Hey Bud!

Hey Bud!

- Flipper!

Flipper, Flipper come here quick.

Flipper, you got to help me
find Mrs. Browning and Sandy

before they drown.

- Do you see anything?

- No.

- Jumping jellyfish, I was just trying

to make up for all the
trouble I'd caused you.

If I'd was you, I'd drown me.

- Sandy!

Sandy!

Sandy!

- Hey Bud! Bud! Bud!

- I'm sorry, Sandy,
but I couldn't help it.

The wind just pulled me away

and I couldn't get the engine started,

because there was no gas in the tank.

- Then how'd you get here?

- Flipper towed me.

- Flipper?

- Too much of a load for him.

I'll have to send him for help.

- You'd send him?

- Flipper.

Go get help.

Get help.

You help me row.

You bail.

- Sandy.

I'm sorry.

Truly, I am.

It's all my fault we're
in this, this mess.

- It's okay.

I shouldn't have disobeyed my dad.

- You did it because you love the park.

You really believe in it, don't you?

- Not only me.

You should see some of
the kids that come here.

The visitors.

- Yeah, some of them haven't
even seen the ocean, ever.

And boy do they have a ball.

- I've got a lot of thinking to do.

If we ever get out of this.

- You just keep bailing.

- Flipper!

There they are.

- Hey dad!

Dad!

- You will take care of
Flipper, won't you Hap?

- Oh, I sure will old buddy.

I'll feed him for you.

That's the least I can do.

- And if they send someone,
from the Navy experiments

to get him, tell him to hide
until they've gone, okay?

- Okay, I'll hide with him.

- I've come to say
goodbye, Mr. Gorman, Bud.

- Bye.

- Mr. Gorman, I want to
thank you for bringing

the matter of Coral Key
Park to our attention.

And I'm sure they'll be able

to do something about your taxes.

- Ma'am, I don't care about my taxes.

I sure do wish you'd change
your mind about the park.

- I have no intention of changing my mind.

As Chairman of the Special Subcommittee

of the House of Representatives,

I will not only recommend that
Coral Key Park be continued,

but that they idea be
expanded to other areas.

- Zowie!
- Yeah! Zowie, your Honor.

Or, thank you, ma'am.

- Oh don't thank me.

You have these two boys to thank.

You should be very proud
of them, Mr. Ricks.

- Well, as a matter of fact, I am.

- Yeah, well we sure are proud of them.

And you know, just to show
you that we ain't unmindful

of what you've done for us,

I'm gonna write my friendly Admiral,

he's the one that I saved his life...

- Hap, I don't think you
better write any more letters.

- Well, maybe you're right, son.

But, ma'am, my hat's off to you.

Look at that old sea cow.

Ain't he a sight.
