Fireflies (2004): Season 1, Episode 19 - Closing In - full transcript

Perry's moved into the mud brick house and Lill is happy about that-or is she? During a drunken phone call with Perry's ex-wife, Lill realises her relationship may really be over. Then the unravelling starts as her happiness turns and reality starts closing in. Can she live without Perry? It's another hot day and a fire has started in the Tuza State forest. Fifi learns that Fire Control Officer Bryce Austin will do everything he can to save Fox Cove, including putting his own house at risk. Meanwhile Mike is closing in on Svettie and Sharpie's dope crop. He's torn between being the cop and living in a small country town where he has become familiar with the residents. It's a fine line and Mike is still an outsider. But a secret is out about Mike and his world is about to close in on him too.

- Where's Joey?

Ah.

Hey Dave, have you got everyone?

- Yeah.

- Ryan what about you?

- Yeah right we're all on.

- Okay.

Let's get outta here.

Okay let's get out of here.

Jesus Christ.

- Fox cove and jandenberg
held the wollombi creek

containment line.

Moving jandenberg did the trick then.

You were right.

You okay, Bryce?

- Yeah I'm fine.

- For Christ sake Bryce.

- What fi?

What would you have done?

We held the south end of the fire

and we bought 12 hours.

We can survive through the night

until the strike teams get here.

Can you give state ops a call

and then you may as well go home.

- I'm fine here with you.

- No we don't know how
long this is gonna last.

You need some rest.

- Do you want me to go and
see your wife for you?

- No.

See ya.

- I'm so sorry.

- Section 44, it's gotten serious.

- Oh I could've told you
that this afternoon.

All four fires have joined up.

That south westerly hits,

firecom is gonna have to concentrate

on lost river.

- How long do you reckon we've got?

- All that hazard reduction
we did up at hungry hill

will give us a bit of time.

- Yeah so we can get out
there tomorrow afternoon

and assess the situation.

It's pretty good.

- I should probably go and
check on the trails we cut.

- Yeah there's gonna be a lot
of people stressing out.

- So we're all gonna have to
pull together on this one, ay?

- Yep.

- Hey bakka, I've talked to my boss.

He's okay for me to stick
around for a few more days.

- Good on ya patto.

- You okay fif?

- Yeah.

I'm not.

Bryce lost his house today.

- Oh.

- He was just sitting
there barking out orders

while he lost everything.

- Oh shit.

- Yeah.

- Did it work?

- Yeah it bought us a few extra hours.

What would you have
done and you were Bryce

and that was me at home alone?

- I reckon I'd leave heaven for you fi.

- Maybe I should stay
here with you tonight.

'Cause you probably have
to go out again soon, ay?

Okay.

- Think they want us right down here.

- It's the same bloody fire grid.

- Got over about 100 snacks

or do you blokes need a feed?

- Oh good on you mate.

- Fire up the Barbie?

- Yeah thanks.

- Hey bek, you seen svettie?

- Yeah, yeah she's comin'.

- Oh good.

- Hey dad.

- Hey darling.

Hey partner.

- We were worried.

- Don't worry everything's
gonna be all right.

Hi.

- You okay?
- Yeah.

Fire's gonna come to lost river.

I mean, it's only a question of when

and how well prepared we are
but I'm gonna check the houses

you okay?

- Huh?

- Svettie what is it?

You can tell me?

- That was my hero.

- Hey.

- Fee, what the hell happened today?

- Bakka, Bryce lost his house today.

While you were at ingram hassling us.

Yeah, he didn't have any man power.

So he uses the river next to his house

as a containment line.

- I'da thought the fire would know

how to steer clear of the
fire control officers house.

- I don't think this fire
knows the rule book Doug.

- So fif what's the latest.

- Okay.

- You okay lil?

- The fires have all joined up here.

And the north westerlies are
pushing them towards fox cove.

- So what about us?

- We'll have to wait and see.

- Which way is it going
to hit lost river?

- If it jumps here-

- Which it will do
when the southwesterly comes.

- It'll go through the cathedral's

and up towards lost river.

- Which is hwy you have to get
us into cathedrals tomorrow.

- Look bakka, it's not up to me.

- What's the chance of it
getting into deep creek?

- After what I saw today I
think anythings possible.

- Just like it was sort of back
burnin' up towards the road.

- Really?

- Like all these spiders
were comin' out and-

- catch you later.

- I suppose bakka told you
that I've sold the land.

- Yeah and my kid doesn't
need that money, thanks.

- I take it that means you do
have a doubt about the child?

- Nah, no doubt uncle Jeff.

The only doubt I got
is about my family.

You know what?

You both have got nothing I want.

- He'll be back for it.

- No he won't.

You know, I see you with my kids.

And I can see that
you're a human being.

- You don't have any
tomato sauce, bakka?

- Yeah ginge, I'll just
check for you mate.

- Yeah thanks mate.

- Svettie I've been tryna
catch up with you all day.

And I mean all day.

- Now is not a good time.

- Mike can I have a word with you?

- Stay away from my wife.

- You've got the wrong idea, mate.

- I know what you're doin' mate.

I won't tell you again,
stay away from my wife.

- Bakka, if I were you,
I'd keep my eye on her.

You need to protect her.

She's her own worst enemy.

- Who wants this?

You gotta breathe lil.

In one, two, three.

Out one, two, three.

Slow down.

C'mon it's okay.

In one, two, three.

Listen to me lil.

Slow down.

Okay.

We're all gonna stay here tonight.

Probably have to go out
again soon anyway.

- I don't know if I can.

Ever wanted to be something else?

Feel if I can put my hand
up there, I can grab it.

If I close my eyes and

just see it all.

- C'mon.

Food's back there.

- You go, I'll be there in a minute.

- Okay.
