I've been fighting to get it all for awhile
Running towards my dream at mach 50
Whirling winds tear through the sky
and I promise to become better than I was yesterday
The blue sky got twisted up with dark clouds
The wind that I waited for pressed onto my shoulder
and in my hand I grasped onto
The flash from a thunderbolt out of the blue
When I stopped running after so long
and opened these fists that have been thrown so often
Inside of them were traces
of the first step I'd taken to make it here
Tomorrow will take care of itself
Tears will come as the winds continue until morning
And to us as we grew it was like
A thunderbolt out of the blue
It's begun!
The WBC World Jr. Middleweight Title Match!
The Battle of Hawk!
Don't rush it.
For now, get used to fighting in a world title match.
Handle it the way you usually do.
Let's show them how you fight.
The champion, Bryan Hawk, versus
the challenger, Takamura Mamoru!
They maintain their distance and slowly circle each other!
It's a much more quiet start than anyone expected!
The atmosphere is heavy!
It's the kind of silence where you
can hear your own heartbeat!
It's a bizarre state for the Ryogoku Kokugikan to be in!
Truly breathtaking!
That's fine...
Observe how your opponent comes at you.
This is your first time fighting in a world title match.
Use the first round to get warmed up.
The famed trainer, Miguel Zail
I'm worried about what kind of instructions he gave.
The distance between them gradually shrinks.
The entire boxing world was upset when he took the title,
and is distraught over what may possibly be, a lengthy reign.
But just how strong is Bryan Hawk?
The challenger carries the hopes of all of
Japan on his shoulders and in his fists.
But will Japan's prized hawk be able to
compete against the world's greatest?
They're almost within firing range...
Whoa!
What's this?
He lowers both his arms...
Is he taunting him again?
H-He's dropped his guard against Takamura?
He really is mocking him.
No.
That must be his stance for closing in on his prey.
In contrast, the challenger tightens his guard
and moves to intercept with an orthodox style!
Well, you don't see that often.
He's taking such a solid looking stance.
It's because there's no telling
what the other guy will try to pull.
He's going to start by the book and try to check him out.
Is that it?
From his lowered position, the champion
starts to weave with a unique rhythm.
The challenger starts to step in place as well.
Both fighters take positions to go on the offensive.
I-It's a left from the challenger!
Incredibly sharp!
The champion barely manages to dodge!
Is he blind?
He didn't dodge anything.
Blood!?
That connected!?
The champion takes a hit!
The fighters' offense and defense are both too fast!
It's too much to follow!
A rapid fire assault goes off!
Lightning fast lefts hound the champion!
What's with that left!?
Was Takamura-san's left always that fast?
A-Amazing.
He can take the pace!
The champion goes on the evasive!
But he's unable to escape!
It's a sharp step in!
The champion doesn't get a chance to fight back!
The champion's totally off guard!
Keep it up!
The champion's pinned to the corner!
He can't fight back from that position.
Keep it up and you'll get him!
Whoa!
The challenger takes a hit!
What was that!?
What was that punch??
H-How could he punch from that position-Dani!?
He grabbed onto the rope!
What did he get hit with!??
A hook?
An uppercut?
{ can't even classify it.
He was just... hit from below!
How can he punch like that!?
It's impossible to predict!
And now the challenger is pinned down!
He's nailed by the champion relentlessly!
Dammit.
I can't tell where his hands are coming from.
What a screwed up way of punching!
You need to learn the basics, asshole!
Let me give you a lesson on the core of boxing!
One, two—
He can fight back even with his
torso completely bent backwards?
You're supposed to be the champion!
Fight properly, dammit!
He's good at dodging.
The challenger can't make it out of the corner!
The world champion's punches collide with his face!
Whoa, the challenger starts to collapse!
T-Takamura-san!
Takamura!
He stays standing!
And barely dodges!
He avoids the finishing blow!
That was close.
I was totally out of it
If he had landed that...
The corner is bad news.
I should run for now.
Run, Takamura-san!
You'll be at a disadvantage in the corner!
Don't fight it out-Dani!
Takamura, run!
It's dangerous over there!
I'm begging you, just get away!
Hurry up and get away from there!
You can't stay in the corner!
Aren't you going to run?
I'm not running!
He's going to fight it out!?
Does he have some kind of plan!?
Like hell he does!
He's just getting stubborn because
everyone told him to run away!
You dumb-ass!
Think about what you're doing!
But, if it's Takamura-san...
No matter where he is or who he's fighting...
He'll be able to pull it off!
You've got guts.
What're you looking so smug about, dammit{?
A left from the challenger!
It knocks him off balance even through his guard!
Takamura-san!
It had enough power to be felt in spite of being blocked!
This is the power of Japan's KO king!
He follows up with a shot to the body!
It drills into his flank!
Can't dodge using that crazy stance anymore, can you!?
You dropped your guard from those body blows.
Next is up top!
Good reflexes,
but...
if you protect up top,
you're open below!
The challenger begins his counter attack!
The champion is completely defenseless
in the face of this mixed offense!
Go, go!
Go for it!
Going for Hawk's midsection knowing he hates to train...
Not bad!
I guess even he can use his head sometimes!
He's really good at using his head to win a fight!
Fighting back using logic, eh?
His power and technique are both excellent.
I see...
His boxing sense is truly first rate.
A left lands!
But it seems to just graze him!
But still...
You can't win.
Not with boxing.
Whoa,
aright from the champion!
He attacks the challenger in between punches!
He alternates between lefts and rights while still tilted over!
The champion unleashes a barrage
from an unbelievable angle!
What the hell is that?
It's not boxing.
No good.
In a punching match, he gets dragged into Hawk's pace.
I can't believe it.
Takamura-san is losing out in a punching exchange.
Takamura-san can't see the
champion's bizarre punches coming.
There's a limit to the types of
punches that can be used in boxing.
But Hawk's punches have no boundaries.
And, because there are so many
variations, they can't be predicted.
There's noway to predict them.
As his trainer, I don't want to admit
it, but his punches aren't boxing.
They're simply...
violence.
Not good,
that got him!
He's unconscious!
Come back to me, Takamura!
Eyes up front!
The challenger seems doomed!
Stop it, Hawk!
Hawk, stop!
Takamura!
Y-You—
Stop it!
The first round is over!
Get to your corner!
What!?
Takamura,
hurry the hell up!
The bell rang??
Dammit!
The arena is in shock!
The champion's strength seems boundless!
T-Takamura was out cold for a while there, wasn't he?
What's with his screwed up boxing?
He ignores all principals and techniques.
It's an expanded form of street fighting.
Pure and natural...
strength.
The stronger one will win the fight.
That's the bottom line.
Are you kidding?
Boxing exists the way it does today
because it evolved past that bottom line.
Just brawling won't be enough.
It's not that simple.
This is like brawling alpha+.
His manner of dodging and punching...
In fact, all of his methods take advantage of and dissect...
the limitations of modern, scientifically devised boxing.
It's genuinely wild.
How will you deal with it,
Takamura?
I'm sticking with what I've been doing.
G-Good idea.
Your left was looking sharp.
Instead of trying to match your opponent's quirks...
try and build your own rhythm!
Dammit, I can't believe it.
I don't have any advice to give him!
He can dodge and attack at the same time.
And to top it off, he has enough power to knock
someone as durable as Takamura unconscious!
I know this fool's boxing can
work against the world champion.
This is because of my inexperience!
Man,
they sure have quieted down.
What's your impression of the challenger, Hawk?
He's got the goods.
Best I've ever dealt with.
| see.
I'm both excited and irritated.
I'm just genuinely glad that we don't
have to come up with a plan to beat him.
You were unlucky.
Your fighter is incredible,
but you should really give it up.
He's too much to handle.
Don't draw it out too much.
Finish him off if you can.
What, I can end it already?
I'll can't hear you-daniyo!
Cheer him on-Dani!
He's right!
But...
Takamura-san took such a beating in the first round.
We've never seen anything like it before.
Hawk is incredibly strong.
What're you talking about-danil?
Takamura can do it-Dani!
And he's got Gen-chan with him-Dani!
That's right!
The coach is with him!
Seconds out!
This is no time to curse myself for being powerless.
All I can do for him...
All I can do for him...
Takamura!
Spirit!
Put some soul into it!
That's the coach's spirit boosting slap!
It's saved me before!
It really gets you going!
All right!
Go for it, Takamura-san!
Geezer!
Yeah!
What was that for!? It really hurt, you bastard!
Don't you get what I'm trying to tell you!?
The second round begins!
He's aiming to become the best in the world.
if he can't become the world champion,
it won't be because of misfortune...
It would be because I led him astray.
It would be my fault!
The challenger uses his footwork!
H-He's fast!
You wanna prolong the inevitable?
Takamura...
I don't need to be slapped.
I know how you feel so much that it pains me!
Geezer!
What you've beat into me...
I'm gonna pull it all out, so keep your eyes open!
Your boxing will work against the world champion!
Using your feet isn't gonna help.
It'll end in this round!
The challenger continues his cautious footwork!
Does he intend to keep his opponent
off balance with his speed?
I don't really remember seeing
Takamura's footwork before, but...
I-It's fast!
Good...
Stick with the basics for now!
The basics...
Use your legs,
pivot around your opponent while moving to the left...
and then...
What was it again?
Dumbass, why are you stopping!?
Don't try it if you don't know what you're gonna do!
Aren't you supposed to circle around me?
The challenger has stopped moving.
What's wrong!?
Don't get carried away—
The champion continues his direct offense!
That's incredible pressure!
You're not getting away this time!
Now, die!
Precise lefts from the challenger!
He puts a stop to the champion's charge!
Day after day...
I was made to run like a race horse.
Like it was the only thing was good for.
And I was forced to use my left over and over.
What was it for?
The challenger makes it out from the ropes!
He switches positions!
But the champion immediately regroups!
Trying to get away with your little tricks?
Noway, noway!
What was it for?
For this!
The challenger traces a circle around the champion!
The champion is being stung to
death in the center of the ring!
Whoa, he's fast!
Whoa, he's fast!
He's even quicker than he was before!
He's even quicker than he was before!
Go!
He's fast.
I can see why Hawk said he was the best.
I didn't think he'd be this fast.
Is it me or is he faster than guys in our weight class?
It's true.
I don't even know if I could keep up with him.
When I met him, I knew he had enough
strength to become the Japanese Champion.
I didn't force him to work on his legs, his left, and
the other basics to help him conquer the nation.
I did it to overcome a greater obstacle.
To overcome the obstacle I knew he would run into!
It was for this moment!
The champion is staggered by compact lefts!
He tries to force himself in!
Left, left, left!
You use it to set up your dominant hand!
Geezer!
Like this!?
Aright!
The champion is sent flying backwards!
He threw himself backwards to reduce the damage!?
But it looks like you can't keep up with my speed!
Then welcome to...
High Speed Hell!
The challenger goes even faster!
Is this his top gear!?
I'll feed you so many punches that you
won't have a chance to fight back!
You'll be destroyed without knowing what hit you!
He's fast...
fast indeed.
But what if Hawk...
was faster?
Whoa!
Takamura-san!
Takamura!
Whoa!
And the challenger falls!
It's a down!
The one who fell after that high
speed collision was the challenger!
The count begins!
ONE
What...
TWO
G-Get up-Dani, Takamura!
G-Get up-Dani, Takamura!
Takamura-san, stand up!
THREE
What the hell?
What are you counting for, dammit!?
Oh, and he's up!
FOUR
I didn't go down!
He just tapped me a little and knocked me off balance!
That's what a down is!
Settle down and rest until the count of eight!
A down?
Me?
Takamura-san...
There's noway he isn't hurt,
but the mental shock is a much bigger problem.
Box!
Will the challenger be able to turn the tables!?
He was able to knock me down?
Me?
Some night
I can't remember why
We stayed up 'til 4 AM ('til 4 AM)
We talked about nothing important and then made love
The birds wake up we close our eyes
The birds wake up we close our eyes
I love how she calls my name inside her dream
Kisses me still half asleep
Don't I wish that we could stay like this
At 8AM
I stop the alarm to watch her sleep and think
I'd do anything if I could make this time rewind forever
To 7:59
