I took all the kids there.

We had these old granola bars
stashed away, just in case.

And we waited.

We sat there eating
and crying in the dark,

trying to stay quiet.

We'd done it before.

The grownups would always
come after a night or two.

I just knew.

And we waited and waited.

And after three nights,

I went back to the camp on my own.

But they were sick.

My mom and dad

wouldn't even let me come in the cabin.
