Season 03 Episode 01

Episode Tirle:
Nancy reads "Nancy the Auteur."

My helmet camera
on good and tight?

Yup.
Ready for your big bike jump!

Allez, Lionel! Go!
Go for it!

Okay.
Here I go.

- Bravo!
- Yay!

Awesome!

Your new movie camera
is super fun.

We should use it to make movies
of other things too!

You mean like clouds
or ants?

Or the inside
of your mouth.

Nah, I've already
video'ed all that.

What if we make
a real movie.

Like the kind you see
in a theater

with actors and a story
and everything.

Sounds fun.

- That'd be awesome.
- Yeah!

Let's do it.
I guess.

Uh, but Nancy?

Have no idea how to make
a grown‐up kind of movie.

Pas de problème!
I saw a TV show

about how to make movies once.

So I'm practically an expert.

Please, Nancy.
What do you really know

about making a movie?

Well, I know that every movie
needs an auteur.

That's fancy for someone
with a dream, an idea,

a vision of what their movie
will look like.

Someone like moi,
perhaps?

Sure.
Fine by me.

Okay.
Go for it.

Works for me.
I'm not doing it.

Merci.
Thank you all for believing

in me and my vision.

Okay. But, um,
what is your vision?

Yeah, what story
are we gonna tell?

Oh! Um... huh.

Let's see. Well, our story
needs a hero, of course.

The hero must be played
by an actor

with that special something
that all movie stars have. Someone like...

Frenchy!

I can see the movie now.

Yukon Rex: Dog of Adventure.

An epic tale of a noble hound,

tragically torn
from his owner's arms.

Lost in the vast wilderness!

Braving spectacular storms!

Facing a ferocious bear.

Clinging to survival

on the wildest ride down a rivr
in the motion picture history.

Coming soon, it's
Yukon Rex: Dog of Adventure.

That sounds like a movie
I'd wanna see.

Especially the part
where they ride down the river.

I am almost 100% positive

that audiences
everywhere will love it.

Oh, come on, Nancy.

How are we gonna make a movie with
boats, bears, thunderstorms and a river?

Well,
I don't know yet.

But as the writer/director,

which is fancy movie talk
for the person who writes the story

and tells everyone making
the movie what to do,

I promise I'll figure it out.

This is just another one
of Nancy's big ideas.

I am so in.

I guess I'll try.

What do we do first,
Nancy?

Lionel, you'll be
the cameraman.

Bree, you'll play
Yukon Rex's owner.

Roberto, I see you as the riverboat captain
who befriends Yukon Rex.

Grace, you can be...

Rhonda and Wanda,

Come on. Let's go!

Camera's ready.
I like my part.

I'm a captain.

Now, Bree, this first scene
starts on you, Yukon Rex's owner.

What's my name?
Um... Jessie McCoy.

And you're at your cattle ranch

Wait. They had these
in the olden days?

You whittled it out of wood.

But just when you throw it,
a big wind...

That's me.
And me.

Right.

The wind blows it far off
into the deep, dark woods.

But faithful Yukon Rex chases
the toy into the woods and gets lost.

Why don't I go after him?

Uh, your foot hurts.

All you can do is gaze after him

So when I say "action,"
you say your line and throw it.

Jessie.

Jessie's cattle ranch,

instead of making a whale sound...

...we'll hear
the sound of cows.

Yeah! Moo cows!

And what do I do,
Nancy?

Hmm.

Uh,
I don't get it.

Why is he holding
a pine cone on a fishing pole?

It's a pretend microphone

so JoJo could pretend

- Ready sound department?

Okay, people. We are about
to film the climax of the story.

That's the most exciting
part near the end.

Yukon Rex meets
the lovable riverboat pilot, Captain Pete.

He takes our hero home
in his boat.

But the water goes so fast,

they have to hang on so they don't
fall overboard in the raging river.

Want us to get buckets and splash
them with special effects water too?

That'd make them look
extra scary.

Especially if some of it
splashes on the camera.

Yeah, I've seen
that in movies.

I could act like
I'm falling in the river.

And there's a whale
in the river.

And a cow!

What about the fairy?

Those are all très
interesting ideas,

but right now
we have to hurry.

We simply must shoot
the river scene before it gets dark.

Um, Nancy,
where are you planning to film this?

In the creek out back.

Oh, no.

Playing in the water
is too dangerous without an adult there.

Then you can come watch us.

Sorry, but right now
I have to fill an order for strawberry jam.

So, how do we shoot
the river scene now?

I don't know.

Well, we'd better do it fast.
We're losing our light.

There must be a way.

There's always a way.

Daddy!

Hey, Nancy Pants.

Oh, it sure is nice
to come home to my little girl‐‐

Whoa! And all her friends!

Hi, Mr. Clancy.

Dad, I'm thrilled you're home

because we need you
to watch us shoot

the big river scene for
Yukon Rex: Dog of Adventure.

Yukon what?

Okay.

And hurry!
We're losing the light.

So you see, Dad,
that's why this scene is so important.

Our whole movie leads up to Yukon
Rex taking a wild ride down a raging‐‐

Sacré bleu.

Uh‐oh.
Where's the water?

Oh, darn it. That's‐‐
That's too bad.

You know, sometimes around this time
of year, the creek dries up for a while.

Dries up? Dries up!

No, that's impossible.

Without this scene,
our movie has no ending.

Uh, we could use a hose
to make a river.

No, I don't think
a hose will stretch this far.

Or make
enough water.

And it would take
too long anyway.

Don't worry.
Nancy will find a way.

So, what are we going
to do, Nancy?

What are we gonna do?
We are going to quit.

That's what we're gonna do.

Because not even
the greatest auteur

can shoot a riverboat ride
down a river without a river.

Mother Nature,
how could you be so cruel?

Hey, Nancy Pants.

I'm sorry I let you all down,

but I'm afraid
Yukon Rex: Dog of Adventure shall never be.

That's a wrap, people.

Which is fancy for
we're done making the movie.

Oh, Frenchy.

I thought if I had a dream I could
always find a way to make it come true.

But maybe
that's not the case.

Maybe none of my dreams
will come true,

no matter how much
I want them to.

Like being a fashion designer.

And becoming a ballerina.

- I may not even...
