Falling Skies (2011–2015): Season 4, Episode 8 - A Thing with Feathers - full transcript

The 2nd Mass picks up the pieces after a devastating alien attack leaves Maggie fighting for her life... and Hal fighting for Maggie. Meanwhile, Tom and Dingaan are cut off from the rest of...

Don't hear anything.

I think we're safe to go out.

ANNE:
Let's look for survivors.

Fan out.

Eyes and ears open.

Hell of a lot of debris
our people could be trapped under.

HAL: Maggie!
WEAVER: Come on, Matt.

Tom, you better be alive.

HAL:
Maggie! Maggie!

ANTHONY:
You bounce back quick.

You got hit hard when that gas line blew.

- Thank God for spikes, right?
- Yeah.

Maggie!

Maggie!

SARA: Aah!
ANTHONY: Sorry about that.

MATT: Guys...
HAL: Maggie!

POPE:
You bring Overlords to the party, huh?

You send Beamers down on us?

Well, I'm still standing, bitch.

No!

Let me do it.

[SQUEALING]

[SARA GRUNTS]

MATT:
Dad? Dad!

Is this where you said you saw him last?

Tector picked the sniper's perch.
Tom was to get in position, take the shot.

We had the Overlord in his sights.
What happened after, I couldn't say.

My dad is alive.

Anybody alive under this rubble
doesn't have long, 12 hours at the most.

We need to start digging.

If your dad's under there,
we're gonna find him, Matt.

We'll find him.

Oh, God.

Oh, God.

It's Tom's, right?

The one he wore in the ghetto?

- Yeah.
MATT: Dad.

Dad.

Dad!

Ripped By mstoll

Oh, no.

[COUGHS]

Thank goodness. There you go.

You're breathing. There you go.

Hey, I need a little help over here!

[MAGGIE SIGHS]

I can't-- I can't-- I can't move my legs.

HAL:
Oh, my God.

Hey, I need some help.
I got Maggie over here. She's alive.

Hello?

Is anybody up there?

Hey!

DINGAAN:
Help.

Who said that?

Who's there?

DINGAAN:
Help me.

- Keep talking so I can find you.
DINGAAN: Help.

Help.

TOM:
Hang on.

- Tom.
- Dingaan.

Please, it's crushing me.

All right, hang on.
I'm gonna get you out of there.

Get it off.

Please.

Okay, ready?

[GRUNTING]

Careful, careful.

Wedge something under there.

Hey, come on.

Come on!

- All right--
- Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa.

It's no use.

- I can't get out.
- You will get out.

Now, I'm gonna push on this.

When I do, you're gonna do
the best bench press of your life.

Okay? If we get a little space,
you're gonna wiggle out, okay?

Push!

[YELLS]

Come on. Come on.

I can't hold it.
I'm losing it, Dingaan. Get out.

Get out right now.

Get your legs free. Come on.

[TOM GRUNTING]

See? Told you I'd get you out.

Lexi.

What is this? Where am I?

- Somewhere safe.
- What?

With my family. With our family.

Family? What family?

You mean the Espheni?

[SIGHS]

[SCREAMING]

Okay, we gotta get out of here.
We gotta get back to camp.

We can't go back to camp.

It's too late for them.

What do you mean, it's too late? Oh, God.

- A peaceful solution has begun.
- Really?

[GASPING]

I didn't ask you to follow me,
but now that you're here...

...I wanna show you something.

The future.

ANNE:
Keep her steady.

- Open the door.
MAN: Watch out.

Watch her neck.

All right, easy, guys. Careful.

HAL:
We got her. Come on.

- All right, steady.
ANTHONY: All right, all right, all right. Easy.

- All right, real gentle.
ANNE: Okay.

- I got you.
- Get some blankets and water.

ANTHONY: Got it.
ANNE: Okay, let's take a look at you.

WEAVER:
Set up assembly lines for the smaller stuff.

Signal if you need a lever
for the slabs, bigger stuff.

- And don't forget to listen.
- Yeah, keep on listening there.

Tom Mason's dead.
There's no other reason why they retreated.

I told you my dad was alive!

[GRUNTING]

Hey, easy, easy.

I didn't know you were there, kid.

Sometimes people say stupid things.

As soon as my dad
took that shot at the Overlord...

...he would've run back to the bunker
when the building went down.

He's gotta be somewhere around here.

Well, all right, Matt.

I'll dig With you.

Way to go there.
He really got you good, huh?

Ahem. Yeah, let's scout the perimeter,
see if we can find any survivors.

Really? Probably
angry birds out there still waiting.

TOM:
Hey, give me your hand.

Come on.

Can you see a way out of there?

Is this what I think it is?

This is the crashed Beamer.

Cochise must have nailed it with the rocket.

I was on my way back to the shelter with
survivors when I saw the building cave in.

Maybe we can find an entry
and crawl through.

- Get inside the Beamer?
- Yeah.

- Why would we do that?
- Because the way out is up.

There's gotta be a hatch.

- I see nothing.
- Nothing yet.

We just have to clear out
a little bit more space.

[COUGHS]

Ah, I can't...

...get enough air.

We're trapped.

Buried.

Okay, Stop--

We're buried here! We're going to die!

TOM: Dingaan! Hey!
- We're going to die!

We're going to die!

- Aah!

- Aah!
- Dingaan?

What are you trying to do?

Bring this whole thing down on top of us?

Maybe it's better if it collapses,
and be done with it already.

Dingaan.

DINGAAN:
Is that a hatch?

That's a hatch.

There's no response from the neck down.

It's not good.

But it's, um...

I mean, it's temporary, right?
It's like me in the wheelchair.

- Maggie has a serious spinal cord injury.
- What are you saying?

She's paralyzed, Hal.

And I think there's some
internal bleeding going on. I'm sorry.

Can't you do something?

Outside of making her comfortable,
not much.

- I don't know what else I can do.
- We can't just let her die.

- What do you want me to do?
- We can't--

Look...

Okay.

What about, um, spikes, okay?

Because Denny's spikes,
they made her heal fast.

- Maybe Denny's spikes--
- I know you want to help.

- I want to help her too.
- We gotta do something.

Please.

Okay, okay.

Maybe the Volm can help, okay?
I'll talk to Cochise.

Okay. Okay.

A hatch door that does not open.

We'll get it open.
We just haven't figured out how yet.

[WHIRRING]

What is that?

Bioelectrical wiring.

We should be able to follow that
to a control panel that'll open it.

When we get in there,
we could signal whoever's topside.

Or maybe we'll just
fly the damn thing out of here.

- Heh.
- Yeah, right.

We are being punished, Tom.

Even if we manage a way out,
it'll be for what?

To find everyone dead?

Listen to me.

Don't ever say that again.

Really?

- You're lying to yourself.
- Damn right, I'm lying to myself.

I lie to myself every day.

Sometimes every hour of every day.

Sometimes that's not even enough,
and I do it anyway.

Because if people think that
there's no hope...

...they damn well better believe that
I think there is. Does that make sense to you?

- I suppose so.
- Good.

Because it is hard enough here
without you going into the tank.

Do you think you can keep it together?

- Right now?
- Sorry.

I just don't like the idea of being buried.

[LAUGHING]

As opposed to everybody else,
who loves the idea?

[RUMBLING AND CREAKING]

[GURGLING]

Hey, Torn, what are you doing?

What are you doing?

You're the--

- Wiry tendons.
- What?

Maybe there's a switch or something.

- Ow, Ow, ow!
- What? What is it?

- Something bit me.
- Get your hand out of there.

Tom. Tom.

- Aah! Aah!
- Tom, pull it out. Pull it out.

- Pull it out.
- Aah!

[WHIRRING]

[SCREAMING]

WOMAN:
Help me!

BEN:
What?

This is what the Espheni
have planned for us.

It's what they told Dad about.

It's the evolution of the species, Ben.

[SCREAMING]

This is your peaceful solution?

This is evolution.

And the beauty part is the transformation
can occur anywhere, without violence.

They have perfected the delivery system.

Listen to yourself. These are human beings,
being turned into monsters.

I showed humans a path to peace.
They refused to listen.

You can't believe that.
They're brainwashing you.

- No, they've shown me the way forward.
- This is not the way forward.

This is not evolution.
This is genocide. It's extinction.

- Just stay with me.
- Please, listen to me.

You're just gonna kill me?

Like you killed Lourdes?

[BEN GASPS]

Can you see?

This is the only way.

- The better way.
- Go ahead.

Make me your slave.

The Espheni already did that to me once.

There isn't time to change anything
for either one of us.

Soon I'll be leaving for my training.

But I want you to come with me.
We can still be family.

OVERLORD:
You are the bringer of peace.

BEN:
Go ahead. Make me your slave.

OVERLORD:
You have been chosen to reveal the solution.

COCHISE: The spikes are filled
with an engineered bio-plasma.

The serum is the source
of Denny's quick regeneration.

So we extract the fluid,
like a stem cell procedure...

...and inject it into the injury?

Correct. In theory, this could promote
radically advanced healing.

Another theory is that Maggie's body rejects
the serum and goes into anaphylactic shock.

So this could kill her.

COCHISE:
The procedure could also injure Denny.

There's a danger to a fluid extraction.

Pull too much and you could trigger
an epidural hemorrhage, resulting in a coma.

She'd do it for me.

Just be careful, though.

Then it's settled.

No, it's not.

I'm not injecting alien DNA into Maggie's
body until we get her permission first.

What's the matter?

Hey, relax, will you?

- Relax.
- Stop it.

I can't. I've got the yips.

You're giving me the yips.
Come on, Sara, please.

I take it you've never been
in an attack like that before.

Oh, no. Couple dates in college
maybe came close, but...

Thanks for holding my hand
through it, though. You're a real prince.

Oh, God.

[FLIES BUZZING]

It's Bennett.

He was on sentry duty with Anthony.

Overlord burned him alive.

SARA: What are you doing?
- Find something to dig a grave.

Hey, colonel, it's Tector's gun.

It's been fired.

Dad must have winged the son of a bitch,
and then he retreated.

Yeah.

Hey, there's, uh, something down there.

I can hear it.

I don't hear anything, son.

It's Dad.

All right, Matt.

Let's dig. Let's dig.

Let's just keep digging.

[GRUNTING]

Tom, your hand, it's--

- Your hand.
- It's fine.

Well, I was expecting bucket seats
and a leather interior.

DINGAAN:
More space.

It's better.

Well, should we see
if it comes with a moon roof?

[YELLING]

- I can feel something moving inside of me.
- Tom--

It's spreading! It's spreading!

Tom, there's something in your arm. Tom.

Tom. Tom!

- Hey.
- How am I doing?

[HAL SIGHS]

Well, uh...

...Anne, uh, took a look at you...

...and she, um...

And what?

She thinks you're paralyzed, Maggie.

[MAGGIE SIGHS]

I was afraid you were gonna say that.

But we still have a chance, all right?

See, Cochise, he thinks that the fluid
from Denny's spikes, they can heal you.

No.

- It's a little dangerous, but--
- Hal, stop.

- But we just need your permission.
- I can't do that.

It could save your life.

I kill aliens, remember?

I can't become one.

Please, just do this for me.

You said you'd protect me.

You have to let me go.

[SOBBING]

- What'd she say?
- She wants to do it.

Okay, have a seat.

[HAL SIGHS]

This gonna hurt?

ANNE: Yeah, it is.
- Aah.

Tell your girl she owes me a drink
when this is all over.

All right.

ANNE:
Okay, hold still.

[ANNE CLEARS THROAT]

[DENNY GRUNTING]

[GROANS]

Okay, hold her steady. Let her see you.

- Shh, Maggie.
- It's all right.

- All right.
ANNE: The anesthetic should be kicking in.

You won't even feel the prick of the needle.

I'm gonna inject you with the fluid
we took from Denny's spikes...

...and then hope for a miracle.

Hal. Aah.

What did you do?

What?

[POPE GRUNTING]

[POPE SIGHS]

Well, he deserved better.

At least that'll keep the animals
from getting at him.

I'm sorry, Pope.

I'm not used to caring,
and I'm no good at it.

Last night was terrible.

I thought I was gonna die.

And I thought you were gonna die.

You thought wrong.

Death sucks.

DINGAAN: Tom. Tom.
- Aah.

Tom, Tom. Tom, pull, okay?

Pull on that. Pull.

[CHIMING]

Get it out.

- Okay.
- Get it out.

[TOM GRUNTING]

DINGAAN: This thing is barbed on the inside,
like a fishhook.

Going in hurt a little, but coming out--

If it doesn't come out now,
you're in here alone.

Just pull it out and don't stop.
Even if I ask you to, don't stop.

[YELLS]

Don't stop! Don't stop!

[TOM GRUNTING]

[CREATURE SQUEALING]

Oh, God.

[CREATURE SQUEALING]

[SQUISHING]

Okay, okay, okay.

You still carry a hankie?

They haven't taken all my dignity. Yet.

We're gonna be okay.

[CHUCKLING]

We're gonna be okay, Dingaan.

[BEEPING]

What's--? What's that beeping?

Some kind of ordnance?

When the Beamer crashed,
it was dropping explosives on us.

I think we just pulled the pin on a grenade.

- Dingaan?
- Make it stop.

- Make it stop.
- Hey, hey, hey. Dingaan?

- Make it stop.
- Keep it together, huh?

I can't take it.

Make it stop.

Hey. HEY!

[BEEPING]

She's alive, but her heart is really weak.

I don't know how much longer
she's gonna last.

I'm so sorry.

She didn't want to do it.

[SIGHS]

I couldn't let her go.

[SOBBING]

Oh, God, I don't blame you, okay?
I would have done the same for your dad.

BEN:
Anne, help!

ANNE: Ben.
- What happened?

ANNE: Are you okay?
- I got back as fast as I could.

Lexi? Did you find Lexi?

- She's gone over to the Espheni.
- Well, then we'll go find her.

- We have to--
BEN: There's nowhere to go.

- Then we'll follow her trail.
- There is no trail. She's off training with--

- What does that mean, she's training?
- You have to understand.

Lexi's gone over to the Espheni.

Completely.

She showed me
how they're mutating humans.

She insisted it was the solution.

It's already happening.
Even if we went back, it's too dangerous.

We could have ten 2nd Masses,
and we'd never get out alive.

I'm only here because she let me go.

I saw in her mind.

The Lexi we know is gone.

Maggie.

What happened?

She was paralyzed in the attack. We tried
taking the fluid out of Denny's spikes...

...injecting it into her,
but her body rejected it.

You took the fluid from the spikes?

It didn't work.

What about a full transplant?

Ben, uh, if you're thinking what I think you--

We took spikes and harnesses
off kids in Charleston.

Anne?

You okay?

I'm fine.

Transplants are more complicated than
extractions. We don't have the equipment...

...we had in Charleston.
- Cochise could help.

There must be some kind
of Volm field medicine.

Take my spikes. Put them in Maggie.

Denny could barely stand
when we tapped her spikes.

Removing yours entirely could kill you.
I'm not gonna lose both of you.

I don't care.

I couldn't save Lexi.
Please, let me try and save Maggie.

All right. Okay.

We're not going to stop it.

No, we're not.

We can't stop this missile from exploding.

But we don't have to die in here.

We can shield ourselves from the blast.

- Where?
- There. Back where we came from.

Don't you see? It won't matter.

Get up.

[BEEPING]

It is similar to the MRI device in Charleston,
but without the view screen.

You must operate by intuition.

You will know when it latches on.

[SQUEALING]

The spike is clear for extraction.

[MAGGIE MOANING]

So far, so good.

Matt, I'll dig for both of us.
You get some shut-eye.

- What do you say?
- No, I, uh...

I can't. Not with Dad down there.

Well, then if you won't stop to eat,
will you just take this?

Some chocolate?

Oh, thanks.

We have to build this blast shield.
Missile could go at any minute.

There's a reason I'm down here.

It's karma.

Karma has nothing to do with us
being underground.

We're buried because of me.

Because of what happened to my family.

You said your family
was killed in the invasion.

No.

No.

I married above my station.

Adeleke.

My beautiful wife.

I wanted to prove to my in-laws
I was a success.

Give my little boy Idrissa
a better life than I had.

So on her birthday,
I built her a swimming pool.

The day we broke ground...

...my son and I watched
as the bulldozer started digging.

I took my eye off him to answer the phone.

I was always on that damn phone.

When I returned...

...I saw that...

...he was in the pit.

The dirt caved in on him.

He was buried.

My wife, Adeleke, she didn't--

She never got over it. She--

She drank herself to death.

That-- That sound.

I can't take that sound.

[DINGAAN SOBBING]

I rode with my son in the ambulance...

[BEEPING]

...hearing that beeping
on the heart machine...

...until it-- I--

Until it stopped and he was gone.

There, you see.

It's my fate...

...that I should be
buried in here alive as well.

[WHIRRING]

[GROANS]

We're not taking out any more spikes.

- Maggie only got three.
- Those three spikes will have to save her.

I'm not losing your brother.

Oh.

[BEEPING]

Dingaan, you didn't do anything
that every parent hasn't done 10 times a day.

You took your eye off your child.

And a terrible thing happened,
but you don't deserve to die.

Your family wouldn't want that.

They wouldn't want you to lose hope.

That's the one thing
they'd never forgive you for.

You can't lose hope.

We can't lose hope.

[BEEPING ACCELERATES]

[PEOPLE CHATTERING]

Dingaan, is that you?

Yes.

Yes. I'm alive. Heh.

TOM: Matt?
MATT: Dad?

Matt?

WEAVER:
Tom!

- I told you he'd make it.
- Yes, you did.

WEAVER:
I got you, Tom. I got you.

Here you are.

He never stopped fighting for you.

I knew you'd fight for me.
It's what kept me going down there.

ANNE:
Tom?

Oh, thank God.

Ben's awake.

What do you mean, Ben's awake?

[FOOTSTEPS APPROACHING]

BEN: Dad.
- You came back.

BEN:
So did you.

TOM: All right?
- How's Maggie? ls she gonna be okay?

We won't know until she wakes up.

Thank you, buddy. For everything you did.

Whether she makes it or not, thank you.

I didn't do it for you.

[CHEERING]

Tector.

MAN 1: Yeah!
- Best damn shot ever.

MAN 2: Amen to that.
ALL: Hear, hear.

POPE: If Tector was here,
I know exactly what he'd say.

Long live...

I just felt like a walk, especially after
what Ben said about Lexi.

I can't give up on her. We have to find her.

- I'm not sure what we'd find.
DINGAAN: Uh...

...to remember and to fight
for those we've lost.

ALL: Hear, hear.
MAN 3: Right.

Sleep with the angels, Lourdes.

ALL:
Yeah.

- Gonna miss you, girl.
SARA: Um...

...I'd like to say goodbye to someone too.

The old me.

This girl thought that if she
hid herself away from the world...

...and, uh, looked out for number one,
that she'd stay safe.

Uppers, downers.

But that's no kind of life.

ALL:
Yeah.

Going after Lexi
isn't really a possibility right now.

Listen, we're here. We are alive.

There's other people here that didn't leave.

That didn't switch sides.

That need us.

WOMAN:
She's walking.

MAN 4:
She's on her feet.

That's for betraying me.

And that's for saving my life.

Looks like she's back to normal. Ahem.

I didn't save your life, Maggie. Ben did.

MAGGIE:
I have spikes.

BEN: How are you feeling?
MAGGIE: I guess I'm okay.

Hal.

Ah, come on, don't make me run after you.

- You all right?
- Heh. Yeah.

Well, Ben, I mean,
he really stepped up for Maggie.

What the hell is that?

- Please tell me you saw that.
- I saw it.

I thought I was going crazy.

Wonder what it means.

It's about the moonlight.

Ripped By mstoll
