Falling Skies (2011–2015): Season 3, Episode 10 - Brazil - full transcript

When the 2nd mass destroys a crucial Espheni base, a relentless enemy is taken down and the Mason family is reunited with those who had been lost.

You know what I like the most
about Chicago?

- What's that, bro?
- The pizza.

Say what you want
about New York, all right?

But that town ain't got nothing
on the Windy City

when it comes to pizza pie.

That's another reason why we

should hate those
Overlord bastards.

About 20 miles or so to go.
So far, no alien resistance.

They'll be there waiting for us.

Yes, sir.

Well, let's just hope
that Mason and his team

can figure out how to fire
that big-ass alien popgun.

When you get used
to the symbology,

the Volm language
is actually quite intuitive.

It's almost elegant.

Hmm.

Unfortunately, it is a tongue

designed for pragmatism,
not poetry.

How's it coming?

All the systems
seem to be checking out.

So this thing's gonna work?

Almost certainly.

Not a lot of room
for "almost" here, Doctor.

By "almost,"
I'm estimating a 94% probability

that the weapon will function
as expected.

Good. Any contact
with the Volm ship?

No, but I did not
expect we would.

They're gonna be there,
though?

They will see the heat signature
when we destroy the tower.

That will act as
a navigational beacon of sorts.

I know we've gone over this
a dozen times. It's just...

The entire fate of your planet
and mankind are at stake?

Yeah. Something like that.

Everything will be fine,
my friend.

In this you must have faith.

I do. Thank you.

Unh.

Holy!

Maybe I should hold that.

In your dreams, Bobo.

Is this gonna work, Colonel?

The plan, I mean.

It has to.

Copy that, sir.

But did we do the right thing
bringing her?

For all our sakes,
I certainly hope so.

She and her eye worms
are the bait for Karen.

Hard to believe.

What's that?

War is coming to an end.

- An end?
- Yeah.

I'm not sure I see that.

If that Volm weapon works,

the grid comes down,
and the Volm land,

I don't think this war's
gonna last much longer.

Well, you know what they say
it ain't over till it's over.

I know. Still...

What?

I've just been thinking
about afterwards, you know?

Like, settling back into a life,
real life.

- A real life?
- Yeah.

What's that look like?

It's nothing fancy.

A comfortable house,
good-sized backyard.

Oh, my God.

- Seriously?
- Yeah, seriously.

Wow. I mean...

Wow.

What about you?

You're telling me you haven't
given a single thought

as to what you're gonna do
after the war?

Uh... No.

All I figured out
is I'm pretty good at fighting.

It's probably
the only thing I'm good for.

You know that's not true.

It is.

And I'm okay with that.

If I survive...
and that's a big "if"--

I'll probably just keep on doing
what I'm doing.

Just fighting?

Yeah.

I mean... Yeah.

Nothing we can do for her,
Anthony.

So, what's the call, Colonel?

Hold fire till we see
the whites of their eyes?

Don't wait for anything.

As soon as you catch
a whiff of the enemy,

blow them all to kingdom come.

- I can do that.
- Sign me up.

This is a classic
"Do not pass go,

do not collect $200" mission.
We will not stop until--

Gentlemen!

It's been an honor and
a privilege serving with you,

so let's give 'em hell!

Smile, you son of a bitch!

We're getting close.

All right, showtime, folks.

There's more grid
in the sky here

than in Charleston.

It's because
we're closer to the tower.

it's like a ghost town.

We fooled them.
They think we're in Chicago.

Fingers crossed.

Our hunch that Karen

is following Lourdes
may have paid off.

Also means
you don't have an eye bug.

If you did,
they'd be here waiting.

That's true.

The Espheni will figure out
their mistake

soon enough, though.

I know Weaver's gonna put up
a good fight, but...

They knew the risk.

One thing I know for sure

is that Dan Weaver
is made out of cast iron.

He's gonna be fine, Jeanne.

I know.

All right, we all know
what to do! Let's do it!

Dr. Kadar?

I believe we are ready
to proceed.

Fire!

- No.
- Hit it again.

We need 10 minutes to recharge.

That's 10 minutes
we don't have.

Beamers! Two!

They spotted us!
Turning inbound!

Look!

Yes!

Yes!

Yeah!

It's gone!

Matt's right! It's gone!

Good work!

It's not
exactly what I expected.

Tower's down, grids down...
I call that a success!

Agreed.

- What now?
- We wait.

Whoa-hos!

Whoa!

Hey, Dad.

Hey, Ben. Just the man
I wanted to see.

Okay.

I'm sitting here
trying to get organized

for my meeting
with the Volm commander,

and I think
that they're gonna

be very interested to hear about
the rebel Skitters.

Cochise said that they've never
encountered movement like--

Sure, but...

What?

The rebels are nervous
about the Volm.

They've left the encampment.

Well, that's understandable.

They've only ever
known each other as enemies.

Maybe we can help with that,

find a way to bring them
closer together.

They're too valuable
of a resource.

Is everything okay, Dad?

I am great.

I'm... tired.

It's been a long haul,

and I'm just realizing
how much more there is to do.

You got us here.

In spite of everything,
we're here 'cause of you.

Thank you for saying that.
That means a lot.

And I hope
that when all this is...

Dad!

Baby bear.

It's mighty good to see you!

Well, this is getting old.

Yeah.

Cast iron.

Everything go as planned?

Not even close.
We were pinned down pretty bad.

I don't know
what would have happened

if Cochise and his soldiers
hadn't shown up when they did.

Next time you need a decoy,
Professor, you count me out.

Hopefully there won't
be a next time.

Amen to that.

Thank you once again
for your assistance, my friend.

Once I explained the situation
to the Volm commander,

he did not hesitate to order

a shuttle craft and a squad
for a rescue mission.

Please thank the commander,
then.

You'll have the opportunity
to do so yourself.

We meet with him
in the morning.

In the morning? That's a little
sooner than we expected.

I thought
you would be pleased.

I am.
I-I-I'm very pleased.

I'll be right with you.

- What about Lourdes?
- She's being restrained.

And I don't think
she's ever gonna be the same

unless we get rid of those bugs.

More than likely
Karen's still tracking her.

If she's still alive,
I hope she is.

In fact,
I'd love nothing more.

Our scouts report
that the Espheni are

rapidly retreating to the north.

Not a sign of them
in a 10-kilometer radius.

Okay.

Hang on. Give me that.

I want to make a toast!
I want to make a toast!

I've made too many speeches,
given too many lectures.

I want to make a toast.

Words, sadly, are just words,
and they can't possibly convey

the gratitude
that I have in my heart

for those
that it has been my privilege

to call family
since this nightmare began.

But now we are
at the beginning of the end,

and that faint light
at the end of our long tunnel

is finally shining upon us.

So... to the end of our journey!

To the Fishheads!

May they freeze their asses off
in the North Pole.

To victory.

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

May it be swift,
may it be complete,

and may it be forever.

I hope it tastes a lot better
than this rotgut.

Where'd you get it?

And are these the local leaders

for whom you hold
such high regard?

Yes, sir.
This is Tom Mason.

I am told this is how you greet
one another with honor.

And I am honored to meet you,
Tom Mason.

The honor is mine, sir.

And this
is Colonel Dan Weaver.

The brave commander
of the Chicago decoy mission.

Hi.

I stand with you
soldier-to-soldier.

Right. Thank you.

I am Waschak-chdab,

commander
of this expeditionary force.

We thank you
for coming to our aid,

and we look forward to a long
and productive association.

I, in turn, offer my thanks

for our victory
and for the life of my son.

Your son?

Waschak-chdab is my father.

And now, gentlemen,
if you'll excuse me.

I'm sure you'll appreciate
there's much to be done

before we can secure the area
and deploy our defenses.

Um... of course.
We were hoping to discuss

our mutual strategy
for engaging the Espheni.

We have some ideas,
observations, really,

from an indigenous
point of view

that we thought
would be of use to you.

I promise
there will be ample time

to go over the information
you have prepared, but--

Oh. I knew there had to be
a "but" in here somewhere.

Please, understand, Colonel.

The Volm have, over time,

developed specific strategies
for engaging the Espheni.

Yes, well,
I would certainly hope so.

What my son is trying to say

is that we have no need for
your participation in this war.

The war is over for you.
It is over for all human beings.

The Volm are well-equipped
to carry the fight to the enemy.

Your military forces
are no longer needed.

In fact,
they will only be in the way.

Commander, with all due respect,
our planet, our fight.

I understand.

I don't think
you do understand.

I don't think you
understand at all.

If you're not interested
in collaborating with us

in this war, then what exactly
are your intentions for us?

You will be relocated
to the south,

a place you call Brazil.

Heh. The hell you say?
Brazil.

You will have
everything you need.

You, your families,
and friends

you'll be out of the war zone,
you'll be safe.

The Volm will provide security.

Commander,
this is simply unacceptable.

Nevertheless,
that is what will happen.

Relocation will begin today.

Excuse me, sir,
but, no, it won't.

If you don't want to stand

shoulder-to-shoulder with us
as allies,

that's your privilege,
but this is our home,

and we will fight for it
as we see fit.

You will be relocated,

and that is the end
of our discussion.

Commander,
we don't have any interest

in being sheltered
from this fight.

We've come way too far.

Sir, please, ex...

Whoa! Ugh!

Tom! Tom!

Colonel, stay where you are.

Lyle, if it any of those trims
end up in this coffee,

it will be
to your eternal regret.

The Professor and Weaver
have been gone for a long time.

What the hell are they doing
with the Volm, anyway?

Talking strategy.

Strategy.

Find Fishheads. Kill 'em.
End of story.

You know, if Napoleon had you
by his side in Russia,

things would have gone
a lot better for him.

Thanks.

Hey, Colonel Weaver!

What's the plan?

Get your gear packed up,
ready to move in one hour.

One hour.
That's as much time as we got.

Where's my dad?

He's being detained by the Volm
for the moment.

- Wait. What?
- Can't explain.

Need to get out of here now.

What's the hurry, Colonel?

I'll tell you
what the hurry is.

The Volm
want to ship us off to Brazil.

There's still
millions of Espheni forces

here in the United States.

Suddenly we're being
deployed to Brazil?

- That doesn't make any sense.
- They don't want us to fight.

They want to relocate us there,
put us in camps.

- Hell, no.
- No, that's why we're gonna

get out of here before they can
herd us up like cattle.

Colonel Weaver.

What about my dad?
We can't go without him.

Don't you worry about
your dad, son.

I'm gonna get him
out of here with us,

but right now we got to move,
all right?

Let's go, people!

So it turns out the Volm are
no better than the Fishheads.

- Isn't that dandy?
- No time for this, Pope.

Get yourself packed
and ready to go.

Whoa. That's okay.

Ohm

Whew.

Dad? What's wrong?

I'm okay. Hey.

Here. What is this?

Oh. Huh?

Nitroglycerine? ls there
something wrong with your heart?

- Where did you get these?
- Huh? Dr. Glass.

How long have
you been taking it?

- Huh?
- Tell me. How long?

- A couple of months.
- Oh?

Jeanie...

You can't tell
anybody about this, okay?

Especially not Tom.

- Promise me.
- Okay. I promise.

Okay.

- We should go to Brazil.
- No, sweetheart.

We cannot
go to some concentration camp.

I don't understand
why we can't--

Well, I can explain.
We've got a job to do here,

and I do not trust these Volm
to do it for us.

Besides, sweetheart,
can you really see your old man

sitting around
on a beach somewhere?

We got to go.

Hey! Where's my dad?

I assure you, your father
is quite safe, Matt.

- I don't believe you.
- I promise.

You'll be reunited with him

when you board
the transport tonight.

You promise? You played us,
you bubble-headed bastard.

You are mistaken, John Pope.

We will defeat the Espheni,
just as we have promised,

and you will live out
the rest of this war

in comfort and peace
and safety.

But right now, it is imperative
that you lay down your weapons

and prepare to leave.

If you really are our allies,
why do we need to disarm?

You will have no need
for weapons in Brazil.

Screw this!

I say we fight our way
out of this snake pit.

Me, too.

Take another look, Pope.

They got those Volm weapons.

Why are you doing this?

Like you,
I am a soldier, Colonel.

And, like you, I obey orders,

whether I agree with them
or not.

Then you know this isn't right.

Please, sir.
I am begging you.

Do not make me use force.

Order your people
to lay down their weapons

and prepare themselves
for transport.

Lay down your weapons!

Live to fight another day.

That's our only play here.

So, this is the endgame
between the grand alliance.

You knew better.

You knew in your gut
it was a mistake.

But Tom,
he talked you into it.

Well, congratulations, Colonel.

The Volm have just done
what the Fishheads never could,

brought us to our knees.

My son should have
warned you in advance

that physical contact
with a Volm commander

is a serious breach
of etiquette.

There are many things I wish
your son had warned me about.

You must understand.
He was under strict orders.

I can see that now.
Lying, it would appear,

is a universal trait.

It was not our intention
to deceive you.

I'm the fool here, though.

I naively thought
that we had a friendship,

your son and I.

Professor,
why are you so resistant

to doing as we ask?

It is for your own benefit.

That is where you're wrong, sir.

I would have thought that
Cochise

might have explained who we are
as a species, at least.

Yes, but we have, to date,

only encountered dull and pliant
indigenous species

of the many planets
we have liberated.

Not a single one of them
has ever resisted relocation.

In fact, they have welcomed it.

So you will understand
that we are confused

by your resilience,
your tenacity.

We can also be selfish
and self-centered.

We're no strangers to war--

devastating wars--

fought between ourselves

for reasons
that now seem very petty.

But we are also passionate
about our right to exist.

And we adamantly oppose

those who would oppress
or deny us our freedoms.

And we would rather die
than have those rights

taken away
as the Espheni have tried.

Yes.
I can see that is true.

Then allow us to fight.

Commander, allow us to fight,

and I promise you we will
prove ourselves tenfold

if you give us a chance.

I am only a warrior.

I have never wandered
from that narrow profession.

Never have I questioned
protocol or orders...

until now,

which I find most disturbing,
disorienting.

I've been told by your son,
in fact,

that we have that effect.

You have given me much
to contemplate, Professor Mason.

- We shall talk further on this.
- I look forward to that.

Hey, uh...

Can you give me a second?

Lourdes.

How are you feeling?

I've got a skull full of worms.

They're going crazy,
writhing around in there.

How do you think I feel?

I'm so sorry, Lourdes.
I know exactly how you feel.

Aah! I need them out!
Please!

Please take them out!

Hey, Hey, hey.

Hey, hey, hey, hey.
Listen to me.

I'm gonna make sure
we find a way to get them out.

But you got to be patient.
Now, do you trust me?

Yeah. I always have.

Ever since the beginning.

You remember those days?

Yeah.

You'd bring me food
after all my scouts.

And you'd make sure
I was okay.

It seems like
a thousand years ago.

Now it's my turn
to make sure you're okay.

That's a promise.

Hal.

Hal, I...

We, uh...

We may have to put her
out of her misery.

Why would you say that?

You want Karen
and the whole Espheni army

to know where we are?

Are you ready, Colonel Weaver?

Where's Tom?

He will be joining you.

Let's go.

Dad!

Are we really going to Brazil?

I don't think we've got
much of a choice in the matter.

You all right?

I'm okay now that
I'm back with you guys.

This way.

I don't understand.

You are free to go
wherever you please,

but you must leave
the Boston area

as quickly as possible.

Let's move, people!

Come on, guys!

You know we're gonna
continue to fight.

I know.

I can't guarantee
that we won't get in your way.

Yes, I imagined as much.

Take this.

I suspect it will come in handy.

Be careful, Tom Mason.

Thank you, my friend.

I hope I see you again soon.

I cannot imagine
anything more pleasing.

Now go.

You know, my son,
they will not survive.

But they would most certainly
die in captivity,

my most honored father.

Of that I have no doubt.

In all the history of this war,
we have never allowed

the indigenous population
to be in harm's way.

We have sworn an oath
to protect them.

But, as you must realize by now,
these humans are different.

Yes. For their sake,
I sincerely hope so.

What?

Just the smell of fresh pine.

It's good to get
out of the city.

It gets my blood flowing.

It's not the mountain air.

It's the fact that you think
the war's gonna go on.

You think you want it to end.

But trust me, Hal,

you'd never cut it
in a split-level house.

Spending your weekends

trimming hedges
and weeding flower beds?

You'd go stark raving mad.

She's right, kid.

Compared to the quiet
desperation of the suburbs,

I'd say an alien apocalypse
is paradise on earth.

Relieved we ain't going
to the jungle, Doc?

Hardly. These woods are filled
with mosquitos, ticks,

eager to gorge themselves
on our blood.

Do you have any idea
what Lyme disease does to you?

Wait!

- What you got?
- Not sure.

Something big coming this way.

Whoa!

Lourdes! Lourdes.

Dad!

Ship! Inbound!

Karen took the bait.
It worked.

- I just hope it's her.
- It's her.

Hal, Ben, Maggie.

Stand two! Take cover!
Let's go!

Tom.

Hal.

We need to talk.

Thank goodness
you're okay, Hal.

I've missed you.

Yeah, I've been looking forward
to seeing you, too.

Give me one reason
why I shouldn't kill you!

Easy, Tom.

This is far more important
than our personal differences.

It's about the Volm.

Get to the point.

I see things haven't turned out
the way you planned.

You and your beloved allies
have parted ways.

Not the knights in shining armor
you thought they were, right?

That's far enough.

I'd say you've become
an expert on disappointment.

In fact, I think the only reason
you want to talk

is the Volm have you
on the run.

You don't trust me.

I would feel the same
if I were in your shoes.

I could tell you
I've made mistakes,

that I regret the way
I've gone about some things,

but those would just seem
like empty words to you.

You got that right.

Which is why I didn't expect
to reconcile our differences

in one conversation.

But I am confident
there will be more

unpleasant discoveries
about the Volm.

This war
has gone on for centuries.

And it will continue
for a long time to come.

And as you know
from your own history,

there might be a day when
our interests will coincide.

So, I want you to know
my door will always be open.

You can't be serious.

I am.

And to prove my good faith,
I've brought a gift.

One that I think
you'll appreciate, Tom.

That's funny.

I have a gift for you.

Unh!

Hey, come on.
You all right?

Unh!

Yeah, yeah.

Tom?

Tom?

Unh.

All I wanted
was to be with you.

I'm so sorry.

Anne!

Tom?

Anne?

Tom?

Anne?

I thought you were dead.

Oh, thank God you're okay.

What about Lexie?
Is she with you?

Did they do something to her?

She's fine, Tom.

But...

I don't understand.

This is Lexie, our daughter.

Hello, Daddy.

You know,
I really had it in my mind

we were near the end.

I mean,
the war and everything.

Well, we're closer.

At least we don't have to worry
about Karen anymore.

Sure. Of course.

But...

- There's no "but."
- Really?

I thought for sure
I heard one.

Here, let me help you with this.

- I got it.
- I know.

Here. Let me help you with it.
We'll just pull it together.

- I got it, Hal.
- Okay.

Why don't you help
with that stuff over there?

I can secure this line
on my own.

Okay?

Sure.

All right, Lyle.
Turn it over.

- Whoa, whoa! Hold on. Hold on.
- How long, Pope?

Oh, man, I don't even know where
to begin with this damn thing.

You got 10 minutes.

We'll have to move your stuff
to another vehicle.

Maybe Lourdes' truck.

Oh, yeah, right,
like anybody's gonna want

to share space with that freak.

Well, if you don't get it fixed,
we won't have a choice.

- How's Dr. Glass?
- She's sleeping.

She's been doing
a lot of that lately.

It's to be expected.

And she didn't say anything
about what happened?

No. She said she doesn't
remember anything.

There's no sign of a probe
or a tracking device?

I don't know.

I don't think so,
but we need to stay vigilant.

- Of course.
- What about my daughter?

- In what sense?
- In what sense?

In the sense that
she was born two months ago

and now appears
to be a 6-year-old kid.

The DNA I sampled
suggested such a possibility.

So, she's just
gonna keep on growing?

It's... impossible to speculate.

Just one last parting gift
from Karen and the Espheni.

I thought they were dead,
though.

I thought I'd lost them forever.

Perhaps when Doctor--
when Anne wakes up,

shell be able to shed
additional light

on what happened
to her and your daughter,

- but until then...
- I know. I know.

All right!
We're good to go!

Let's load 'em up, people!

Five minutes,
we're out of here.

Just like old times, huh,
Colonel?

So, where are we going?

Tom and I were thinking
first stop Charleston.

Warn them about
the Brazil relocation.

We need to regroup,
let them know the situation,

then we thought we'd go find
Hathaway's people.

Point of that being?

Form a new resistance movement.

A human resistance movement.

Let's go!

The Volm want to fight
the Espheni, let them.

We got our own fight.

- Pope was right about one thing.
- What's that?

It does feel like old times.

Miles to go, Dan.
Miles to go.

Alexis?
