Falcon Crest (1981–1990): Season 5, Episode 1 - The Phoenix - full transcript

Maggie has amnesia, despite her and Chase surviving the explosion. To rebuild their marriage, Chase takes Maggie home. Angela has to reveal a long-kept secret in her fight to save her wine empire from the encroachments of a vengeful mother and daughter to plan to take over the estate.

Previously on Falcon Crest..

- And don't worry about Cole.
- Huh.

I'll take extra
special care of him.

Lance, I don't wanna lose
Lorraine anymore than you do.

The time has come,
we gotta do what's best for her.

She's already dead.

Don't do that.

I hold the notes
on two-thirds of Falcon Crest.

I'm going to make you suffer..

...the way we suffered.

You're gonna wish you were dead.

And tonight..

If you reveal what you're about
to find out, I promise you..

...that you'll regret it
the rest of your life.

This was the scene
six weeks ago

when a mysterious
explosion destroyed

the Tuscany valley mansion
of wealthy Richard Channing.

Today on follow up
we continue our coverage

of this ongoing story.

Immediately after the blast
we interviewed Floyd Gilmore

'Sheriff of Tuscany County.'

All we know at this point
is that the major force

of the explosion
tore through the second story

near the sleeping quarters.

It appears to have been some
kind of bomb deliberately set.

Two victims were
apparently blown clear

and rescued by Mr. Channing's
security staff

before the fire totally
engulfed the house.

The second victim was Maggie
Gioberti, acting publisher

in the New Globe whose
husband vintner Chase Gioberti

was questioned as he
arrived at the hospital.

Is she-she's going to live?

She'll live. You better
believe she'll live.

Excuse me please.

Miraculously she survived
as did Channing.

However, recent attempts to
interview him at his new estate

were thwarted by a bodyguard.

He's become a reclusive figure
refusing to grant interviews

or even to cooperate with
law enforcement agencies

seeking to solve the crime
that nearly killed him.

As new developments unfold

we will continue
to keep you informed.

Yeah, I bet they will.

Every time it's a slow news day.

Well, I'm glad Maggie is getting
out of the hospital.

'We need her at the New Globe.'

You are just too sentimental
for words Angela.

'I think Delaney
is dong a good job.'

Well, yes.

For Delaney.

'I was told not to admit you.'

'Out of our way.'

'We have a legal right.'

What is this?

How dare you come in here?

Would you tell this pips creek
to get out of our way?

May I remind you
that we have an injunction

that forbids your access
to Mrs. Channing's residence?

What you are holding is a court
order that gives my clients

'access
to Mrs. Channing's office.'

What's he talking about?

They want to examine the books.

With a fine tooth comb.

Well, stop them.

Chao-Li I think you better
show these people

into Mrs. Channing's office.

Show them the letters.

And what have you been doing

while they were getting
a court order?

We couldn't very well keep them
at bay forever, Angela.

I have been looking into
the Rossini family history

and there seems to be
some kind of...

Yeah, don't go into the past.

Theirs or ours.

You just find a legal way to get
'em out of here and fast.

Well, I'm doing
everything I can.

But in the meantime,
I suggest that we give

Mr. Crawford's clients a hand.

And let them ruin me?
In my own house?

Oh, I'm not ready
for the funny farm yet.

No, perhaps not
but at least this way

we can see what they're doing.

Oh, come on Angela, smile.

You never know
you might learn something.

Well, let's get on with it.

And what can I do for you?

Well, first I'd like
a comfortable chair.

This one's a disaster.

Well, your court order says

that you're gonna
look at my ledger.

It doesn't say I have
to make you comfortable.

I think you ought to know that
I'm about to move into that..

...little guest cottage
out near the winery.

I think I can oversee
things better from there.

Well, no one stayed
in that cottage for years.

Watch out for the rats.

Now I don't know
what you are looking for.

But some of these ledgers go
back to the turn of the century.

Of course, if you got
to run a winery

I suppose
you should know it all.

Who said anything
about running a winery?

My clients have other plans.

Perhaps you would like to look
at some of the renderings..

...for Falcon Crest resorts.

If the architects
hadn't kept us so busy

we would have come
calling much sooner.

The tennis courts
are going to go here

'where you now have
Cava nay grapes growing.'

'This is the vacation complex,
condos mostly.'

And here in the winery..

...we're going
to put a restaurant.

'And since we won't be making
Falcon Crest wines anymore..'

...we'll be serving..

...some other label.

I think we're gonna put
these...things away.

You have no right
to come here and gloat.

You think you are going
to plow under my vineyards

and build that instant slum.

It'll be over my dead body.

The way you expanded
Falcon Crest..

...over my father's.

Give them what they want
Reardon and get rid of them.

Yes, ma'am.

You cant expect to get back
in shape overnight.

- Not with the spinal injury.
- Oh, really?

- Would you relax for a moment?
- Why don't you relax?

You might undo all
the progress you've made.

Progress? I couldn't fight
my way out of a paper bag.

Well, I wouldn't worry now with
all the security you've got.

Security. This is not good
for me. Not the security.

- Answer it.
- Yes sir.

Yes.

Okay. I'll tell him.

- The lawyer's here.
- Ah, it's about time.

Let's get that
blankety thing on.

I gotta...look like
a straight arrow..

...when I meet
the famous J.J. Roberts.

Hello, Mr. Channing.

Who are you?
I was expecting J.J. Roberts.

I am J.J. Roberts.

Jordan Jennifer Roberts.

'I suppose that other J.J.'

'you're referring
to is my father.'

Ah, he decided against
becoming your attorney.

He's not as smart as his
reputation makes him out to be.

He's only the very best.

I know it, you know it and
lord knows he knows it.

However, he also happens
to be very busy.

'And I heard he was going
to turn you down.'

So, I'm applying
for the position.

You go on home to
daddy Jordan Jennifer.

I have never worked
with daddy or for him.

But I do know
all of his legal tricks.

Plus a few
I dreamed up on my own.

I bet you do.
You don't know what

you'd be getting into with me.

Oh, but I do. Your former
residence was bombed.

You don't know who did
it but you do know

they'll probably try it again.

You're practically broke,
although

one would never guess it
judging by the way you live.

Lawyers are a dime a dozen
today, Miss Roberts.

I've probably had at least 50

unsolicited calls
from people like you.

'Why do you wanna work for me?'

I'm a very successful
attorney Mr. Channing.

I made my first million
before I was 30 but, um..

...things got a little dull.

I felt like I needed a new
challenge in my life.

And you are definitely
a challenge.

I figured if I can bail you
out of this mess

I can do just about anything.

I like people who'd
tell it like it is.

'Sit down.'

Wait right here.
I'll get the car, okay?

Yeah.

You're gonna be
just fine Maggie.

I am going home
with a total stranger.

Look I could vouch for him.

He never left your side
the first 36 hours

after you were admitted.

No food, no sleep,
not till he knew you'd live.

Everyone's told me what a
wonderful marriage we had

but I don't remember it.

And I don't feel it.

You've gotta go on
with your own life Maggie.

There's nothing more
we can do for you here.

Your physical injuries
have healed

and we've done
all we can for the amnesia.

You know yours is the first
face I remember seeing.

I'm going to miss you.

I never knew the old Maggie
but the new Maggie is strong.

She'll survive.

Wish me luck.

Okay.

Any further do's or don'ts?

Be patient, her memory
could come back gradually

'or all at once.'

Or not at all.

'I hope you're prepared
for that possibility.'

There's gotta be
something somewhere

that'll bring it all back.

I suppose being in
familiar surroundings

will be a great help.

'One thing you should know.'

Even if her memory does return

chances are she won't remember
anything about this period.

Oh, well.

I'll call if there's any change.
Thank you.

- Let's put your seat belt on.
- Oh.

Okay.

Chase were we happily married?

I thought so.

The why don't I wanna go home.

Oh, it's hell
having to leave you.

- Then don't.
- I gotta go.

Mom's getting out
of the hospital today.

That's right. I forgot.

Give her my love.

You'll see her soon.

If you get time off for good
behavior like Reardon says.

Next time you come back,
would you bring me a plant.

You know something that
doesn't need too much sun.

I don't know anything
about plants.

- Please.
- Okay, okay.

I'll have Robin
pick one up for you.

Forget it.

Look.

It's just that I've
gotten used to Robin

running errands for me.

Time.

I'm used to her
running errands for me.

I'm looking after Josie.

Don't get too used to her.

I love you.

Thanks for coming.

Ha.

It's lovely.

This looks like
a lovely place to live.

I don't recognize any of it.

Oh.

It's okay, it's just
a matter of time.

Please. I'm sorry, just..

- You're my wife.
- Chase.

You can't rush me.

Okay.

- I'll uh, get your bag.
- Thank you.

If it would make you
feel any better..

...I could sleep
in my office tonight.

Yes, that would
make me feel better.

Hello, Richard.

Lorraine was allergic to roses.

I bring her flowers..

...every day.

'This is the first time
I've seen you here.'

This is my grief stricken
son-in-law Miss Roberts.

Jordan Roberts.

Mr. Channing's attorney.

You must be hard up
for a job ma'am.

Oh, I like a challenge.

I uh, understand that you're
living on the edge now.

Motorcycles.

Hang gliding.

Drag racing.

What are you trying to do boy?
Buy your way out?

You'd like that, wouldn't you?

As a matter of fact you don't
look too bad yourself

for a man we were all
given up on six weeks ago.

Well.

Thank to modern medical science.

You know these doctors can
almost make a man whole again.

'You must be very disappointed
to see that I'm recovering.'

Lorraine would still be here
if it wasn't for you Richard.

'Killing you off
would be too easy.'

I want you to suffer.

Where were you the night
of the explosion?

I didn't plant that bomb lady.

But I understand
you don't have an alibi.

I just chose not to explain
where I was that night.

'Well, you can tell me, Lance.'

I doubt if I'd believe it
but you can tell me.

Going to keep my eye
on you, Lance.

Just in case, you decide
to try it again.

Look, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry, I know you had
high hopes for this homecoming.

Scary as it was, I..

...I thought it would
trigger something, some little

light under the door.

And I can't even remember
the name of the dessert.

You made remarkable progress.

Just.. relax.

Give yourself time.

Give me time.

I'm glad to see
there's nothing wrong

with your appetite,
Mrs. Gioberti.

Oh, it was just wonderful.

Oh, here let me,
let me help you.

No, no, no. That's my job.

Would you get that Mrs. Miller?

Of course.

Who would that be?
Do you think...

Don't worry,
I've told people that..

...you weren't seeing
anybody but family for now.

Hello, Mrs. Miller.
How are you this evening?

- Oh, I'm just fine.
- I've got someone to see.

- Hey son.
- Hi.

- Welcome home mom.
- Oh my.

Thank you.

Thanks.

I'm gonna put these in a-in a..

- I'll put them in a vase.
- Okay.

- You want some wine?
- Uh, no thanks.

I'm not gonna stay that long.

I'm not gonna tire mom out.

- Must be great to be back, huh?
- Well, it's sort of scary.

Nothing makes much sense.

Maybe it never did.
I don't know.

It's okay.

- Melissa sends her love.
- Yes?

When am I gonna get to see her?

Well, later. She um..

I'm sure she wanna
bring Joseph over.

Now are you keeping
something from me here?

She doesn't like me. Oh no.

I'm one of those
awful mother-in-laws, am I?

- No.
- Mom um..

Melissa's in jail.

See it's a complicated story.

We didn't wanna
burden you with that.

You didn't think I could
handle this? Is that it?

This-this-this little crazy lady

who is suddenly here,
who doesn't remember anything

doesn't remember who she is.

So, you are not going to tell me
the truth about my son's wife?

Because she'll probably just..

What else are you
keeping from me?

Don't read things into it.

- Nobody thinks you're crazy.
- Oh, I see.

I'm tired. I'm gonna go to bed.

- Mom wait.
- It's alright. It's alright.

You can trust me I could find
my way upstairs by myself.

Ladies and gentlemen

Just a reminder.

Tuscany down night horse racing

comes to a close on the 30th..

I'm glad you're being
sensible about this.

No problem.

Small virtue makes me
think of you and I

don't wanna wind up
hating her too.

Certainly wasn't hard
to find a buyer.

Of course not. Just gonna
be a real money maker.

Made tidy profit ourselves.

If that's all
you're looking for in life

than you should be very happy.

Well, it's a lot better than..

...manipulation and betrayal.

You won't even try
and understand, will you?

Wrong.

'I tried very hard.'

And quite frankly

I can't think
what I ever saw in you.

That's because
you're a climber Reardon.

'There's no way
that you can exploit'

'what we had going for us.'

But the day I have
something you need

you are gonna come crawling.

Good luck, Terry.

Drop dead.

This house is mine.

My home.

A life estate.

And 100 acres of
some of the finest

grape growing
land in this country.

They can't be
taken away from me.

And neither
can the Falcon Crest name.

What have you got
up your sleeve?

Before Connie Giannini,
took off for who knows where..

...I signed a letter of
agreement with her making me

a partner in her father's old
winery and vineyards.

Can you trust her?

I'm making sure it's legal.
It's not a big operation.

But it will be a start.

I knew you wouldn't
stay down for long.

'I would love to see
the look on Angela's face'

when she finds out
you are still doing business

since Falcon Crest.

We'll keep selling champagne
if we have to go door to door.

To hell with them all.

Yes, would you change my
10:30 appointment to 11 please?

Thank you.

Come on, Cassandra.
You're wasting our time.

The things we have
to do at Falcon Crest.

Mother..

...you have been
under strain lately.

Why don't you take the day off?

'Go to a movie.
Try and relax a little bit.'

I can't live with your father's
death the way you can.

I don't think you mean that.

I'm not going to abandon you
mother the way Damon did.

'You are forgetting
I have a business to run.'

Oh. You younger generation.

No passion. No feelings.

Everything for
the love of money.

'Just get out of my way.'

I wanna know
what's going on here?

I just met with my bankers
and they tell me

I can't draw
on the Falcon Crest account

without your permission.

Sorry, I have frozen all funds
for the time being.

But I won't stand for it.

You will hear from my attorney.

He's powerless to do anything.

- Just as you are.
- Powerless Angela.

How does it feel?

You and I used to be friends.

That was a long time ago.

Before I lost my husband

'and my rightful inheritance.'

By gall. You've always been
such a cry baby.

Did you stop by

to have us okay a little
spending money for you?

Well, I'm sorry Anna.
I'm a long way from being broke.

'Believe me Emma, I'm not asking
you to betray your mother.'

I'm just doing everything I can
to help save Falcon Crest

before anything
if you just let me.

I believe you Greg but right now
I find it hard to trust anyone.

Yeah, well if Damon has
done that you, I'm sorry.

Although, at least you
refuse to participate

in the final takeover.

A day late and a dollar shorter.

What can I do for you?

Now these old records
indicate that when..

...Julia was still
a comparatively young girl..

...Angela sent her off to live
in a small town in Connecticut.

Mary's Will. I remember that.

Julia was sick
and mother wanted her

to see some kind of specialist.

And she was gone
for nearly a year.

Nobody would talk
to me about it.

But I think..

...I think she had..

I think she had a breakdown.

Well, it sounds likely.

'Anyway, what's all this got
to do with Falcon Crest?'

Well, I maybe grasping at straws
but I find it interesting.

'That Julia left the day
after Dominic Rossini'

'perished in that fire.'

Coincidence.

Perhaps.

Why does Angela..

...go to that little town
same time each year?

Why does she make
a substantial contribution

to a Catholic order there?

And why Emma..

...did she get jumpy
when I asked her about it?

I'm sorry Greg.
I can't help you.

But I know where
you might be able to find out.

Your mother is in danger
of losing Falcon Crest.

And I was rather hoping that
you could help me prevent that.

Well, how can I help?

By telling me
why you spent almost a year..

...in Mary's Will, Connecticut?

I am really very sorry to
intrude on your new home, your..

...solitude and I'm quite
sure you would certainly

rather forget about
the past but I'm certain

you have some information,
something however small

that might explain why
Anna Rossini is so determined

'to ruin your mother?'

Anna Rossini.

You went back east..

...immediately after
Dominic Rossini died, why?

I've tried so hard
to forget all that.

I guess I always knew that..

...eventually it would come out.

I was very young.

I fell in love
with an older man.

Go on.

'We had an affair.'

I went to Connecticut to have
Dominic Rossini's child.

I'm sorry to have made you
go through that.

But as you can see
it's, very important.

Anna Rossini.

After all these years.

Yes, she is...very bitter
towards Angela.

I shouldn't wonder.

After mother found out
about the affair

she tried every way she could to
run Dominic out of the valley.

Somehow that
doesn't surprise me.

I wanted to run away with him.

And then there was a fire.

And he was killed.

Mother immediately
took me back east

and I spent the remainder
of my pregnancy there.

And the baby?

He was still born.

I guess it was for the best.

I was very young.

Well, thank you
for telling me this.

I know it hasn't been easy.

I don't know that I'll ever
go back to Falcon Crest

but I'm tied to it.

I don't want it lost to the
family or changed in any way.

You do what you have to do.

Would you like some breakfast?

Oh sure. Let me have some..
toast and four eggs.

- Only four?
- I had a rough night.

Lance.

I know you miss Lorraine.

But there are other ways
to show your grief.

I'm not gonna sit around and
be depressed. She'd hate it.

Well, there's a big
difference in being

brave and in being foolhardy.

'Now, we have a winery
and a paper to run.'

Well, Delaney is doing
fine with one

and Cas seems to be
in charge of the other.

Well, thank you very much
for all of your help.

This arrived for you.

Registered special delivery.

It's from a Law Firm in Chicago.

"Dear Mr. Cumson,
we extend our sympathy

"on the death of your wife
and our late client

"Lorraine Prescott Cumson.

'"This is to advice you
that as her closest survivor..'

'"...you are her sole heir
and beneficiary.'

For your information,
your late.."

Damn it grandmother,
I can't read this.

I don't want her money.
I want her.

"For your information,
your late wife's estate

"is in excess
of two million dollars.

And include substantial
real estate and stock holdings."

So, what do you think
about her now grandmother?

Still not good enough for me?

I can't believe this.
When did it come?

I don't know. It was here when I
got back from the doctor's

a while ago,righthere.

I don't get it.
I was working in the study.

The security men were on duty.

The alarm systems was activated.
Now how did they do it?

Well, you keep asking me
question, Ms. Roberts

I don't have any answers for.

Maybe the same way they got
into my other house

and blew it up, hm?

'Obviously, they're gonna
keep on trying.'

"Stop by your house. Sorry,
I missed you. I'll try again."

And they wrote it
onmyletter head.

You know, we could turn this
over to the sheriff.

He can give it to his
handwriting experts.

No, thank you.
I already told that bird

everything I can remember
about that night

and he's come up with nothing.

There's one thing
you haven't told me

about that night.

What?

What was Mrs. Gioberti
doing at your house?

Ah, you'll have to ask her that.

Hey!

What are you doing?

Just looking through something
in mama's old clothes.

Here. How do I look?

It's too big for you.

It won't be for long.

Hey, guess what I got for you.

Chocolate!

Only this time, don't get
all over your nose

like you did the
last time. Okay?

What is this, a party?

Yeah, costume party.

Joseph just helped
me look through

some of Melissa's old
maternity clothes.

I'm growing out of my jeans.

We'll get your wardrobe
of your own.

I don't think Melissa
would wanna share.

She'll never wear 'em again.

Put them back.

Joseph, where did you get
the chocolate?

I've told you a thousand times,
not before dinner.

Give me the chocolate.

No!

Hey!

Ah.

'Do you wanna go to your room?'

I don't like you.
I only like Robin.

Looks like I won his heart.

Certainly, have made a place
for yourself in this household

since Melissa has been away.

Just trying to be friendly.

Yeah.

I've got more candy.

I'll see you at dinner.

'This isn't your way out,
Mr. Cumson.'

'But-but there
is a shortcut here.'

'See, there is
my ex-wife of mine'

down here, whom
I wanna meet and face today.

You're not allowed
in this cell here.

Yo! This is her.

'She is the person I'm talking
about. Have you met her?'

This is Melissa Agretti Cumson
Gioberti, jail bird.

You should feel right
at home, Lance.

Oh, she is so happy to see me?
I knew she would be, you know?

I could've spend seven long
years in here because of you.

Mm-hmm.

- Mr. Cumson?
- Yes.

Your lawyer has bailed you out
on the drunk charge..

- He did?
- Yes, you can go home.

- 'Really?'
- 'Mm-hmm.'

Okay. Listen.

If I could've kept you
behind bars every night

we might've gotten along
just fine.

I would've loved it.

Anything to keep you
away from me.

- Bye love.
- Please.

What did you say your name was?

I didn't.

'Come on.'

Mother, you're not
concentrating tonight.

Well, where is he?

Greg?

For goodness sake, don't you
think he deserves

a little time off?

It's the way he did it
that bothers me.

Just left a note,
"Be back in a couple of days."

didn't say where or why.

You're not his mother.
Read your book.

Emma, you're not my mother.

Hello.

Yes, of course.
I'll accept the charges.

Julia?

Julia, are you alright?

I thought phone calls were
off limit up there.

You-you um, you haven't run
away, have you?

No, I've just been
very worried about you.

I haven't been able
to eat or sleep

and mother superior
took pity on me.

Oh, what is this all about?

There is nothing wrong there,
is there?

I mean, nothing wrong with
Falcon Crest or anything?

Who you've been talking to?

It was Reardon, wasn't it?

He's only trying to help.

Well, he had no business.

What did you tell him?

'I told him the truth.'

Oh, Julia.

I'm so sorry.

It's alright, mother.
As long as you're okay.

I'll pray for you.

Julia?

Hello?

What is it, mother?

You knew all about this,
didn't you?

'Reardon sneaking around
behind my back?'

He only wanted to know about
that charity support

'back in Connecticut.'

I was afraid of that.

Mother..

Whatever it is you're trying
to hide from him

it can't be as bad
as losing Falcon Crest.

Ah, you're right.

I certainly hope you're right.

Are you sure you can get me
to the airport on time?

Yes, Ms. Channing, very easily.

You be careful.
You know how I hate freeways.

Wait just a minute.
What's that?

That? Uh, best not go in.

We must hurry to the airport.

You said you had all
the time in the world.

Go get the car.
I wanna see what Lance is up to

this time of the day.

Good morning, grandmother.

What are you doing up so early?

I'm on my way to the airport.

What's your excuse? Or who?

I'm sorry. Uh..

Grand mother.

This is-this is, uh..

Never mind remembering her name

because I want you to get rid
of her immediately.

Grandmother!

I was gonna leave you
in charge while I was away.

On second thought, I want you to
leave things well enough alone.

Thelma Crocker.

Hm?

My name.

Thelma...Crocker.

Thelma...Crocker.

It's time to go home.

Okay.

How is she doing?

She's doing fine. I've gotta go.

Chase, I understand you're
sleeping in your office now.

Mrs. Miller has a big mouth?

Well, maybe if you..

I mean, I'm sure
she remembers certain

intimates details,
don't you think?

Goodbye, Terry.

Okay.

I'm a nobody with just
a great face and a great body.

I mean, how was I to know,
he was toying with me?

Terry, slow down, okay,
because it's very hard

to put all of this together.

I'm sorry Maggie. I just..

I just got carried away,
you know.

I actually came by to see
how you were doing.

God! We used to have the most
incredible heart to heart talks.

Are you sure,
you don't remember?

Well, try as I might,
I just don't.

God, I must seem like
a stranger to you.

Well, everything seems strange.

I don't believe it.
We were so close.

Think hard.

You used to have a nick name
for me when we were little.

I'm sorry. It's just..

- 'It was termite.'
- Termite.

The little Terry, and we used
to take riding lessons together.

- Don't you remember that?
- I can't remember.

What about the name
of your horse you love...

Terry. Stop it!

I'm sorry. I just can't play
these guessing games.

Forgive me, I'm very tired.

I guess, I just wanted you to be
the way you were before.

Oh, be careful with that,
it's a real antique.

Are you sure, moving into Falcon
Crest is necessary, mother?

Well, I don't trust Angela.

I've got to keep an eye
on everything.

Hello, Cass.

I came to see you
at the hospital.

You know, I was there.

Oh, they told me you would
chat with me for a while.

Your tender ministrations must
have done some good, I survived.

Came rising out of the ashes
like a great phoenix bird.

When you regained consciousness,
you gave orders that I..

...wasn't to be allowed
in your room.

Well, you know..

Seeing you might've been
too much for me.

We need to talk.

Little late for talk.

I've been looking for you
though. I, uh..

...wanted to return
something of yours.

Sorry about it's condition.

It got blown clean
out of my bed room.

Aren't you thoughtful.

I try to be.

I figured you might want this.

In case you..

...wanna stab anyone
else in the back.

See you around.

All for you, mother.

- Hi.
- Hi.

Sorry, I'm late.
Did you get dinner?

Yes, yes, Mrs. Miller
brought me up something.

Whatcha doing?

Oh, just a journal. Just..

...writing some impressions.

I had this sudden urge to write.

Oh, that's got
to be a good sign.

Yes.

I uh, I gave you
this robe for Christmas.

Oh, it's lovely.

So are you.

Chase, please. I'm sorry.

- Am I now repulsive to you.
- No. It's just I..

I just wish you wouldn't,
that's all.

Come on, Maggie.
You know as well as I do

things can't go on like this.

Look I'm tired. I uh..

Can we talk about it
some other time?

No, damn it. We can't.

We're never gonna work this out,
if we don't give it a try.

I love you.

And you look at me like I was
an intruder or something.

- Get out of my room! Just get...
- Our room!

Get out!

I'm sorry.

It won't happen again.

I promise.

I miss you.

Maggie..

So, Father Mathew called you.

'No wonder I haven't been able
to find out anything'

'since I arrived in this town.'

They must love you here.

Don't they, everywhere?

Julia called
and she's very upset.

I told you not to dig around
into the past.

Your mistake for not leveling
with me in the first place.

'Oh come on, Angela,
in case you've forgotten'

I am your attorney,
I'm hardly likely to sell

Julia's tragic story
to Inquisitor magazine.

What are you looking for
around here?

The record of still born child.

But there's no death
certificate, no grave marker.

Well, there are other churches,
and graveyards and hospitals.

Oh, indeed but none that
received regular large donations

year after year from you.

'Oh, I've seen the plaque
with your name on it'

underneath the
stained-glass window.

Yes, it's very beautiful.

I know we've had
our differences.

But in your own
rather peculiar way

you've always been good to me.

And I'll never forgive myself
if I left one stone unturned

'that might help save
Falcon Crest for you.'

Even if you fire me
for doing it.

Alright.

But if you reveal what
you're about to find out

I promise you that you'll regret
it the rest of your life.

Come on.

Concentrate, concentrate.
Come on, Jack. Look at me.

We're very proud of our
gym equipment, Mr. Reardon.

It was provided by
an anonymous donor.

Oh, I think I can guess
who that was.

I'll go get the manager.

You were right, Greg.

The baby didn't die.

'But to protect Julia,
I let her think he did.'

And of course, the child was
put up for adoption.

No, he was raised right here
in the orphanage by the fathers.

Of course, I did keep in touch

for birthdays and Christmas.

'I loved him as if he were
being raised in my own home.'

And where is he now?

You're looking at him.

'Father Christopher, son of
Dominic Rossini and our Julia.'

'He doesn't know that
I'm his grandmother.'
