Emergency! (1972–1979): Season 2, Episode 14 - School Days - full transcript

John and Roy are breaking in a new trainee who lacks self-confidence in tight situations, including assisting an elderly man who was injured by a falling bookcase, an ambulance broadsided ...

He about finished?

Yeah.

What's your problem
this morning? Nothin'.

[ Dispatcher]
Unit 10-8, identify.

It's just that...
he's sort of...

Well— Well, what?

He looks sort of scared.

Captain said he was cited for
valor twice in the last three years.

Are you kidding?

Huh.

Yeah, well, this is a different kind
of job than just straight firefighting.

Yeah, well, he just finished
three months' training.

Paramedics, Rampart.

They wouldn't have passed
him if he wasn't qualified.

In theory.

[ Dispatcher] 10-4, Assistant 1.

Well, I checked the
squad. We're all set.

Good. Well, what do you
want to handle this morning...

if we get a run? The patient.

L-I mean, you guys'll be there,
in case I mess anything up.

You're not gonna mess
anything up, but we're

gonna be there. Can't
get paid if we're not.

You know, things are gonna be
a lot different from the hospital.

I know. That's what
I’m worried about.

Oh, now, it's not
gonna be all that bad,

You're not gonna have orderlies
and nurses to hand you things.

You're gonna have to
get used to working with

hysterical relatives when
you're working on the patient.

I mean, they don't
understand what we're doing.

You just have to
concentrate on your job.

[Alarm Blaring ]

Speaking of our jobs.

[ Dispatcher] Station
51, man injured in fall,

1756 North Murray Road.

1756 North Murray
Road. [ Sirens Wailing ]

[ Sirens Approaching ] [Woman]
Oh, dear. Oh, my goodness.

Oh, Doctor.

Oh, Dr. Temple.
Oh, you're hurt badly.

Oh, dear. Oh, my.

Oh, dear.

Oh, dear. Are you all right?

[ Knocking ] Oh, my. Oh!

I'll be right back.

Oh, my.

[ Knocking ]

Oh, come right in,
please. Come right in.

Oh, I'm sorry about this. I
didn't mean to leave it here.

Are you his wife, ma'am?
No, I'm just the housekeeper.

He's right in here, please.

Right over here. Oh, Doctor!

Doctor, are you all right?
Of course I’m not all right.

Look at this mess.
Well, they'll get you out.

There must have
been a gas explosion.

[ Stanley] We better
get this off of him

first. Then we'll check
out the mains. Come on.

[Grunts]

Oh, be careful. Be very careful.

Be careful. You got it?

All right. Doctor.

Oh.

Okay. All right.

Andrew, are you all right?

Think we should start an I.V?

[Gage] Why don't we
get the vital signs first.

Now, look, we'll take
care of him now, ma'am,

but I would like you to give his
medical history to this fireman, please.

I can do that, young man.
No, sir, you just relax now.

What is his name, ma'am?

Dr. Andrew Temple. T-E-M-P-L-E.

Mm-hmm. How old is he? He's 75.

Born in 1897. Mm-hmm.

Has he had any
history of heart disease?

No. Oh, no.

Rampart, this is Rescue 51.

Rampart, this is Rescue 51.

Go ahead, 51.

Rampart, we have a male
injured by a fallen bookcase.

He's age 75,
conscious and coherent,

but he's having
difficulty breathing.

We got a lot of tenderness and
abrasion here on this left side.

Think we got a possible rib fracture.
We're gonna need that I.V., Johnny.

Rampart, we have a possible
rib fracture on the left side.

Request I.V. What
are his vitals, 51?

- Hold for vital signs.
- B.P.s 140 over 90.

140— 140 over 90.

- Uh, the pulse is 110.
- [Both]110.

- Respiration is 26.
- [Both] 26.

Rampart, vital signs:

B.P., 140 over 90. Pulse 110.

Respiration, 26. Twenty-six.

Go ahead with the I.V, 51. D5Ww.

10-4, Rampart.

What a setback.

I've been up since 4:00 a.m.,

looking for a French translation
of the Epic of Kumbari.

It's an ancient Hittite myth.

Look, don't try to talk
now, all right, Dr. Temple?

Is the breathing any
easier now? A little.

Emma, make yourself useful.

Try to find that book.

Now you just do what the man
says, and for once try to be quiet.

Oh, pshaw. [ Gasping ]

- Quick. Let's get him up.
- My chest. My chest.

[Man] What's
wrong? [ can't breathe.

He's going into pulmonary
edema. O, quick.

[Coughing ]

0-0.

Rampart, patient is going into
pulmonary edema. Administering O.

Let's have a new
set of vital signs, stat.

10-4. Billy, get a
new set of vital signs.

Billy!

- Roy?
- Here. Take this.

Doesn't look good.

51, administer M.S,
5 milligrams I.V.

10-4. Administer five
milligrams M.S., V.

What will that do? It's just to
make him more comfortable.

Oh, good. [ Siren Approaching ]

[DeSoto ] Vital signs
are about the same.

[Man] How about clearing
some of this debris away?

You wanna put that in the
upright position, please?

All right, he's ready to go.

Get the blanket around first.

Please, can I go with
you in the ambulance?

No, ma'am, but you can meet us
there. We'll be at Rampart General.

Ra-Rampart General.
Rampart General.

What's wrong?

I blew it, man.

What do you mean?
[ Siren Blaring ]

Well, when he went
into pulmonary edema, I...

I didn't know what to do.

You can't learn
everything in three months.

It's the reason for field training.
Come on, don't con me, Roy.

If you and Johnny hadn't been
here, he could have died, couldn't he?

Yeah, but— Yeah.
Yeah, he could have.

[Siren Blaring ]

Gail, set up in
Treatment 1. Okay.

Did you say 1, Dix? Yeah.

Sorry. We got a skull fracture
coming in. I'll set up in 2 then.

Hey, Kel. Did you
say a skull fracture?

Yeah. Skyle Tyler, third
baseman for the Cowboys,

got beaned in a practice game. Thought
they wore those protective helmets?

Yeah, well, just like seat belts, he
wasn't wearing it when he needed it.

Get the lights on.

Kel, I better check
Mr. Michaels.

All right, Joe.

Pupillary dilation.

Doesn't seem to be any
maxillary or mandibular fractures.

Blood pressure
is still 130 over 70.

His pulse rate's still
decreasing though.

Respiration is slow and deep.

Absent reflexes.

We're still trying
to locate his wife.

Any sign of consciousness?

He came around briefly,
vomited, then lapsed back.

Probably tore the
meningeal artery.

There's a definite babinski.

Mike, we may have an
extradural hemorrhage.

Let's get a spinal tap.
Right, right. Nurse?

We're gonna need a neurosurgeon.

Dix, get Joe back in here
and have him take a look, huh?

Right.

How's Skyle doing?
Has he come around yet?

Well, the doctor is still
examining him. Oh...

You don't have any idea where
Mrs. Tyler might be, do you?

Skyle and Kathy just
broke up. She moved out.

[ Man ] We don't know where she is.
Well, would you please try and locate her?

She might want to know.

Wouldn't she?

Treatment 2.

Hey, Dixie. Dix, have
you met our new trainee?

Sure have. Is he any good?

That's what you're
supposed to tell me.

Good luck, Billy.
Thanks, Miss McCall.

- Hey, uh, what's wrong?
- It's nothing, man. I...

Hey, we better
run. Let's move it.

Uh— What's wrong with him?

Thinks he fouled up on the
run. Why? What did he say?

I'll tell you later.
What do we got?

We got an ambulance that
broadsided at an intersection.

[ Siren Blaring ]

Roll fast, you guys. Disconnect
the battery cable on that ambulance...

and get that water shut off.

What happened? These kids
broadsided that ambulance.

[ Siren Blaring ]

You all right? Yeah.

You got a driver's license
and registration for this car?

I think all we'll need
is the drug box. Okay.

What about the patient
in the ambulance?

Routine transfer.
He's just shaken up.

The driver's pinned behind the wheel. The
attendant's the one that really needs help.

All right. Kelly, why
don't you lift this up?

You goin there, and I'm gonna
check around the side. Okay.

Hey, are you all
right? I’m all right.

Take care of the
attendant. Okay.

Captain, is there any way
of shutting this water off?

We're never gonna find the
shutoff valve on this hydrant.

I'll get the water company
out here to cut it off. Right.

LA, Engine 51. We got a
sheared-off hydrant at our location.

Can you get the water company
to come and shut it down for us?

- How are you feeling?
- Okay for now.

See about Ed.

He's in pretty bad shape.

You're pinned under
there pretty well.

Feel any pain?

They'll get me out.

[ I Radio Chatter ]

It's no good, Cap.
She's really stuck.

Well, forget about it. Come on
down and we'll pop out the windshield.

Right.

How you doing, Billy?
We're gonna need an I.V.

All right, look. Can
you get Rampart? Right.

Rampart Base, this is Rescue 51.

Hey, I got Rampart. Is there
any change in his vital signs?

No change. Roy, we're
gonna need a backboard.

Right.

Let's get this drug
box over here. Okay.

Throw it up. This
thing is heavy.

Okay.

Rampart says to go
ahead with the L.V.

Can you get this drug box? Yeah.

Okay.

Okay, it's almost ready to
come now. Come on. Easy.

Careful. Careful. Here it comes.

Easy.

Not too hard.

[ Indistinct ]

Okay. Whoa.

Ready? Yeah.

Okay.

10-4, Rampart. Patient's
about ready to be transferred.

E.T.A's about 20 minutes.

Okay.

Get— Get the wheel.

Okay. Get the blanket.

Okay. [Grunts] [Groaning ]

Got him? Yeah.

10-4.

[ Siren Blaring ]
[Radio Chatter]

Easy. Easy. [ Man
Groans ] Oh, God.

Okay, real easy. Come here.

Hey, Marco. Slow. Slow.

[ Siren Continues ]

[ Radio Chatter Continues ]

Okay.

- You been doing this
for some time, son?
- Why?

[ Chuckles ] You're
pretty doggone good.

Thanks.

[Woman on P.A. ]
Dr. Mendez, Receiving Room.

Dr. Mendez, Receiving Room.

Miss McCall? I’m
Mrs. Skyle Tyler.

Oh, Mrs. Tyler. I've been
trying to reach you all morning.

I was in Palm
Springs. I had to fly in.

How's Skyle? Can I see him?

Oh. Well, has anybody
told you what's happening?

Only that he had been injured
in practice and was unconscious.

Oh. Uh, why don't
we sit down over here?

He's, uh— He's in surgery,
having a blood clot removed...

from his brain. Skyle may die.

He's young. His age and his
physical condition are on his side.

And I'll have been
partly... to blame.

Oh, come on. It was just
an accident at practice.

His mind was on me.

We just split up.

Yeah, I Know, but
he's a pro, isn't he?

He's the best... On
his way to the top.

He eats, sleeps
and dreams baseball.

That was part of our problem.

Well, if that's true, then his
mind was probably on his playing,

and it was just an accident.

You know, there'll
be a recovery period.

He'll need someone
to take care of him.

That's one thing that
never occurred to me.

Being needed?

We can't have children.

I felt so... useless.

AN ornament.

He'll need a wife now.

For a time.

Maybe a long time.

Listen, there's a waiting
room down the corridor.

As soon as your husband is
out of surgery, I'll let you know.

Thanks.

- I'll be fine here.
- Okay.

When I need to get in fast,
I'll stick with this butterfly.

Of course, if you need volume,
flexible cannula is better.

There's a little bit more
technique involved.

It'll also cause phlebitis
quicker than a butterfly too.

How long would it take
for the phlebitis to set in?

With the cannula it's about 72
hours, where with this butterfly...

you can leave it in
for days at a time.

Hey, Hanks, telephone
call for you. Thanks.

Be right back.

What do you think?

I don't know. What do you think?

Well, I think we're
gonna have to give him

a little bit of
responsibility real soon...

in order to get his
confidence back.

You may have to pressure him
some. You gonna back me up?

[Alarm Blaring ]

[ Dispatcher] Station 51,
Engine 210, Engine 16.

Explosion in a
garage. Boy trapped.

1344 Casa Loma Avenue.
1344 Casa Loma Avenue.

Cross street Walnut
Blvd, Time out 1409.

Station 51, 10-4. KMG-356.

[Sirens Blaring ]

This one's gonna be yours. we'll back
you up, but you're gonna call the shots.

Hey, look, fellas, what say
we cool it on this one, huh?

Now look. You're always
gonna be making more mistakes.

You're gonna be making
them till the day you die.

Some patients you're gonna save.

Some patients you're
not gonna be able to.

That's part of being a paramedic.
That's part of being human.

You let that first rescue eat at you,
you're gonna be your own worst enemy.

Hey, look, Roy.
I— I’m not finished.

Now you think you can't hack it, I'll
just pull over and let you off right now.

I never said I couldn't hack it.

[ Dispatcher] 10-4, Assistant 1.

[ Siren Continues ]

Look, Billy, you made it
through that ambulance crackup.

[ Dispatcher]
Negative, Battalion 8.

Headquarters 2. Your
destination and E.T.A.

[ Sirens Approaching ]

[ Dispatcher ] Battalion 3, Engine
32 will be out of service 45 minutes.

[Woman] The door won't
open! It locks from the inside.

[Gage] I'll get the ax.

[Woman] He's inside.

Here's the side door.

Kelly, you wanna
bring that hose?

[Coughs ]

[ Siren Blaring ]

[Coughs ] Let me
get to him. Let me.

Please let me.
Here, here. Hold on.

They'll take care of him. They'll
take care of him. Don't worry.

The fire doesn't amount
to much, but you better

drag some of that stuff
out and wet it down.

Fire's under control here, Cap.

How about passing that on to
LA, and have them return all units.

Lady, please.
Please, let me work.

I’m glad you're here. We
got an injured kid in there.

How about radioing for an
ambulance? It's on its way.

Great.

Is he all right? Yes, sir. Yes.

Ma'am, you're gonna
have to get out of the way.

Sir, your wife's in a bad way. You're
gonna have to get her out of there.

Come on, Betty. Let
these men work. No.

Come on.

Oh, Art. All right,
baby. All right.

[Coughs ] Rampart,
this is Rescue 51.

Ma'am, can you tell me
exactly what happened?

He was working on his
chemistry experiments, I guess.

He must have mixed something
wrong. What was he mixing?

I'm a C.P.A. How do I
know what he was doing?

I never did. How old is he?

He's 12. Is he allergic to
any drugs that you know of?

No. Come on, honey.
Let's let them work.

That smoke— What's
it smell like to you?

It's probably acidic.
Why, can't you tell?

[Coughs ] No. I
can't smell a thing.

[Coughs] [Sobs]

He's breathing better
now. I'll get the B.P.

That can wait. Let's
wash out his eyes.

Okay. An acid burn, you need
this physiological saline, right? Right.

[Coughing ]

It's all your fault.
Well, honey...

If you hadn't given him
that stupid chemistry set...

for his birthday, it never
would have happened.

Oh, come on, honey. Come on, now.
You're upset. Get a hold of yourself.

10-4, Rampart. Brackett
says to start I.V. D5W.

- Butterfly?
- Yeah. Good man.

[Coughs ]

There we are.

[Coughing ]

10-4. Brackett says to
check for abdominal injuries.

I already did that once. Doesn't
he think I know what I’m doing?

Hey, now, take it easy.
He just wants a better

look at the boy's
condition, that's all.

Okay. It's negative.

Negative, Rampart.

[Coughing ]

[Coughs ]

He's got a good strong pulse.

He was lucky.

[Gage] Rampart,
ETA. in 20 minutes.

What about his eyes?

Well, we won't know that
until we get him to the hospital.

[Woman on P.A. ] Stat, ident
doctor, Treatment Room 3.

I understand Squad
51's on its way.

What's up?

Boy's chemistry set
blew up in his face.

May have some eye
damage. How'd the squad do?

What you mean is, “How
did the paramedic trainee do?”

Just motherly interest.

Well, judging
from this end, okay.

That's a start.

Oh, Gail? Give me 10
minutes, then I'll take over.

Yes, Miss McCall.

[Woman on P.A. ]
Dr. Brackett. Dr. Brackett.

Dr. Allen, 63.

Mrs. Perigrew? Oh, yes.

You can see Dr. Temple
now. Oh, thank you. How is he?

Oh, resting comfortably.

Two cracked ribs may slow
him down for a while though.

Well, I'm so glad.
He needs a rest.

Thank you.

Ah! You found it. [ Laughing ]

[Groans ] Take it easy. We
don't want any complications.

The main complication,
young lady, is to my schedule.

You may not know
this, but Dr. Temple...

is one of the leading authorities on
ancient Middle Eastern civilization.

Emma, please.
Well, it's the truth.

And his new book will be the
definitive study on Hittite civilization.

Whenever I can get out
of here and back to work.

Well, this isn't your first
book, I'm sure, Dr. Temple.

Oh, certainly not.

- His 15th.
- At least it's going faster
than the last one.

- Oh? How long did that take?
- Ten years.

[Coughing ]

Smoke kind of
got to you, didn't it?

[Coughing ]

You go soft,
training at Rampart...

Regular hours, pretty nurses
to run your errands for you.

Aw, don't worry. It'll
pass in a couple hours.

No, I'm afraid not.

I got into an ammonia leak
about a year ago. [Coughs ]

Ever since then, if I
get into a lot of smoke,

like back there at the garage,

a cough settles in
for a couple of days.

[Coughing ]

That why you can't
smell anything? Yeah.

Roses or garbage—
It's all the same to me.

Can anything be done?

Well, I could get a nose
transplant or some new lungs.

[ Laughs]

[Woman] Do you see him? Look.

Hey!

Oh, wow. Are we
glad you're here.

What happened? We
need you desperately.

There's a guy over here
with a snake on his stomach.

What's up? There's this guy over
here— He's got a snake on his stomach.

I mean, come on, hurry.
He's really— He's uptight.

I'd be uptight too, if I had
a snake on my stomach.

Don't run, please.

Don't come any
closer. He's quiet now.

- How'd he get there?
- I don't know.

I was here studying with some
of my friends, and I fell asleep.

When I woke, he was there.

Well?

We don't carry any
snakebite serum, do we?

How come? We have
to keep it refrigerated.

- Johnny?
- Billy, go get a broom and some CO..

Well, lift his shirt up,

sweep it off his
stomach with a broom...

and then zap it with some CO.

All right.

All right, Billy.

Billy, you're gonna
have to handle the CO.

Yeah, I know. I
got the shirt, right?

I don't know.

- What are you gonna do?
- Uh...

We're gonna lift up your shirt,

and we're gonna knock
that snake off with a broom,

and then we're gonna freeze
it with a fire extinguisher.

- You ready?
- You're gonna get it. Oh, man.

Yeah.

[Squeals ]

It's rubber.

[ Laughing ]

That's some friend you
got. They're gonna get it.

Is that book any good?

[Coughs ] Well...

The cast of characters isn't
much, but the plot's pretty good.

Just kind of a
refresher course for me.

What did you do
before you got this job?

My father ran a salvage yard.

I worked for him for a couple of
years when I got out of the service.

I didn't really like
it much though.

I wanted something
a little more...

exciting, more important.

You're pretty excited about
being a paramedic, aren't you?

Yeah. It's what I
really want to do.

I just hope I can cut it.

There's no reason
to think that you can't.

Yeah, but I worry about
it though. We all do.

That's part of the job.

The day comes that you don't worry, that's
when we're gonna start worrying about you.

Well, I think I'm gonna
hit the sack... again.

Hey, Roy?

- Thanks, man.
- Yeah.

- You better get some sleep, Billy.
- Yeah. Yeah, right away.

[ Dixie ] Hi. Hi.

How's it going, Billy?
Okay, I guess. [Coughs ]

Where's Johnny? Oh,
I left him in the squad.

- We thought we'd come in
and pick up some supplies from you.
- Sure. What do you need?

Well, uh— Three infusion sets,

some three, five,
and 10 c.c. syringes,

and about a half
dozen small armboards.

Anything else?

No, no. I can't
think of a thing.

Come on. Hey, you and Roy
did a nice job on the Lewis boy.

How's he doing? Oh, fine.

Except for one
thing. What's that?

Well, he won't tell anyone what
he was mixing or where he got it.

Say, do you think you
two could pry it out of him?

We could try. What
do you say? Okay.

[Billy] Wow. What
happened to him?

He was tripping out on L.S.D.

Jumped through a
second-floor window.

Liked it so much he
decided to do it again.

Oh, Gail, "m going to
Pediatrics for a minute.

Here's a list of things for
the guys. Yes, Miss McCall.

Brad, you have a
couple of visitors here.

These are the firemen
that helped you out.

Hi, Brad.

Hello. Little early for
a burger and a shake,

Is it? It's my breakfast.

They said I could eat
whatever I wanted to.

[Woman on P.A. ] Dr. Cantor,
go to the Emergency entrance.

[Coughs ]

Dr. Brackett said...

what you did saved my eyes.

Well, we were
only doing our job.

That sure was dumb,
using those chemicals.

Well, I think what you were using
you didn't get out of your chemistry set.

Uh, what were you using,
Brad? Where did you get it?

You'd tell my folks.

No, scout's honor, I wouldn't.

But you're gonna have to
give up those experiments.

[Woman on P.A. ]
Dr. Hoffman, Administrator's

Office. Dr. Hoffman,
Administrator's Office.

That's over. I'm not that dumb.

- Okay. I'll tell you.
- [ Walkie-Talkie Beeps ]

[ Dispatcher]
Engine 51, Squad 51.

A man trapped by fallen cars at Adlen
Bros. Wrecking Yard, 3511 Barrow Road.

We better get going.
We'll see you later, Brad.

So long, Brad.

Now I want to know
where you got the stuff.

Uh-uh. You're a woman.

You'd tell my mom for sure.

[ Siren Blaring ]

Right in here.

In there.

Where is he? Where is he?
Bottom car. Right in there.

Oh, that's a mean one. Yeah.

[ Siren Approaching ]

[ Stanley ] I guess we
ought to try to get him

out without moving
anything first if we can.

[ Siren Continues ]

You can't blame this on us. The boss
was always letting this guy poke around.

I told him time after time...

I said, “Sam, it's dangerous to let
this guy keep poking around in here.”

And-And he never,
never paid any attention.

You know, just
laughed and walked on.

He won't laugh from now on. All right,
Johnny, wanna have a look around back?

You mean he was out scrounging for parts
and this just all fell on him? Right. Yeah.

Is—Is he conscious?
Yeah. He shouldn't be.

Be careful. Don't...

[Gage] Man alive.

Yeah, let's hope
he stays that way.

We're gonna follow
your lead, Hanks. Right.

I'm gonna go get the drug
box and backboard. All right.

Listen, we gotta get
some bracing under this,

or somebody's gonna get hurt.

Listen, we're gonna need an ambulance.
How about radioing for one, will ya? Okay.

Can you give me
something for the pain?

Hang on, mister.

We’ll have you out
of here in a minute.

[Groans ] You've got
to give me something.

How's it going in there, Billy?

He's in a bad way.
He's in a lot of pain.

You want to give
him M.S. for the pain?

No. No, he's bleeding too badly.
He's starting to go into shock.

I don't want to
risk an analgesic.

Look, just give me a .P. kit

a tourniquet, some
bandages and gauze, all right?

[Stanley] Kelly, Lopez, bring
a couple of those over here.

Rampart Base, this is Rescue 51.

[Groans ] Easy. Easy.

Hold it. Come on. Come on.

All those wrecks are
gonna come right down...

if we don't tie that
pile up some way.

What do you want me to do?
The boss is out of town today.

He leave you in charge?

- Yeah.
- Does that crane work?

Well, yeah. How about bringing it over
here? Take the pressure off this for us?

Oh, no. Not on
your life. Not me.

Anything goes
wrong, it's my neck.

Look, this guy may die.

Well, he had no business
in here in the first place.

Yeah, thanks a lot. Kelly,
why don't you go do it for him.

You wanna show me how to
start it? Now wait a minute. All right.

But anything goes wrong,
don't blame it on me.

This guy shouldn't have been in here, I
tell you. Reach between the two stacks...

Above the car with
the victim. Billy?

Billy?

[Stanley] Right in
there. Yeah, that's right.

Hey, somebody give
him a hand over here.

Okay, you got it.
That's good enough.

[ Cuff Pumping ]

Affirmative, Rampart.
Uh, hold for vital signs.

They want the vitals.

Billy? Vitals.

Okay, the blood
pressure is 90 over 40.

B.P.is 90 over 40.

Respiration's shallow.

Respiration is shallow.

- Pulse is 100 and thready.
- Pulse is 100 and thready.

The patient is stuporous.

Considerable blood loss from the right
leg. I've already applied a tourniquet.

Patient is stuporous, there's
considerable blood loss from the right leg,

and we've applied the
tourniquet, Rampart.

10-4. [ Cars Clanking ]

Watch it, Billy.

Bring it this way a little bit.

Go this way.

[Stanley] Okay. Good,

Okay, Captain,
hook it right on up.

Swing it in.

Okay, a little more.

A little lower.

[ Metal Groaning ]

Okay, Kelly, take it up easy.

Real easy. Okay. Okay.

Whoa. Whoa.

That's enough. Easy.

All right. hold it

That ought to hold this
stack. Yeah, good, Marco.

Chet, tighten up on
your cable, will ya?

Right there. Tied up.

Okay. This is the
one that worries me.

We're just gonna have to
gamble that it stays where it is.

Hanks, watch it in there!

Hanks, how you doing?

Okay, Marco, that ought
to do it. Let's wrestle that

door out of there, and I
think we're in business.

I'll get the backboard
and the splint.

All right.

I got it. Okay.

You got it? [Billy] Okay,
now, easy on his leg.

Okay. Let's go up
under this board.

All right. Here's the
backboard. Okay, steady.

Okay.

All right.

[ Indistinct ]

Ready? Up. Got him?

Yeah.

Just set him down
here. [ Siren Blaring ]

Give me the stethoscope.
You grab the splint, Billy. Right.

[ Chattering ]

[ Chattering ]

All right, everybody move away
from the stack. Get away from there.

You got everything,
huh? That's it.

[Stanley] All right, it's
going. It's gonna fall.

[Coughing ]

You know, you ought to try to get
assigned over at Antelope Valley.

The desert area
would do you good.

[ Laughs] No,
it's all right here.

Yeah. I know better,
man. I like it too.

That was a good run.

You sure you wouldn't like to
work in an auto wrecking yard?

Well, I-I thought about it.

But I decided I'd
become a fireman instead.

You know, somehow I
feel like I graduated today.

Nah. That'll never happen.

There's something
new to learn all the time.

Every day's a school
day, right, Johnny?

Right, Doctor.
