De Dag (2018): Season 1, Episode 11 - Episode #1.11 - full transcript

The denouement is near. Police and robbers are confronted head-on and the situation deteriorates into another hostage-taking. Nerves are taut and the situation is explosive.

PREVIOUSLY

Freya, if I ever find out
you're somehow involved in this...

What did you say?

- Hasn't she been through enough?
- What about us? Haven't we?

Mr Van Landschoot,

everything I've encountered today
has your name on it in capital letters.

Someone must have smuggled
the money abroad regularly.

Nils, Rolf's son.

- Did anyone else know?
- Serge knew too.

We have to get to those lockers
before noon tomorrow

to get the money out.

You're talking about the money!

Where is Susan?
I said she should come too.

She kicked me out.

Did you think about Freya's family

when you filmed her live
with a bomb around her neck?

- Police! Stay there.
- Is your husband home?

- Serge didn't run.
- So where is he?

Your brother and Serge were friends.
One was up to his ears in black money,

the other was at the bank where it was
all kept. Why didn't you tell us that?

Did your father visit Nils often
when he was in prison?

No. Twice.

TICKET INVALID

- Is there something you want to tell me?
- Freya asked me to swap the ticket.

Tell me what you're up to!

Nieuwe Wandeling Prison.

I'd like visitors' lists and some
information about Nils Van Landschoot.

- I want us to go and split the money now.
- Then we will.

Hello? I need to ask you something.
May I come in for a moment?

Okay, let's recap for a moment.

Serge De Coninck.

Close friend of Nils Van Landschoot.

Nils acts as a black money courier
for his father Rolf

and bank manager Walter Blomme.

Nils is caught at Zaventem airport
with loads of cash in his luggage.

And Nils goes to prison
instead of his father Rolf.

A few months later,
he commits suicide in his cell.

We're pretty certain about this part.

Right, suppose Serge
somehow finds out

that Rolf is largely responsible for
the suicide of his childhood friend Nils.

Serge wants to take revenge on Rolf.

He involves two other men

and they come up with a plan
to kill three birds with one stone.

One, steal a huge sum of money.

Two, expose the whole
black money racket.

And three, ruin Rolf's reputation
and he goes to prison.

Then Serge goes abroad
with his money as fast as he can

under a false name.

- One thing doesn't add up.
- I know.

Serge leaving his wife and child behind.

The situation at home wasn't so bad
that he'd do a bunk.

But there's another reason
why seemingly content men

leave their wife and kids.

Suppose...

they weren't just childhood friends.

That there was more to it.

- Serge and Nils were in a relationship?
- I don't know.

- Wouldn't Freya have told us?
- Maybe she didn't know.

So who's going to confirm that?

Serge has fled, Rolf no longer wants
to speak to us, nor does Susan,

and we can no longer ask
Nils and Walter.

Of course I can still go and ask...

What do you think?

Hi, Vos. It's Arne.
I wanted to run a new theory past you.

Could you call me back, please?

Are you serious?

Traditions should be adhered to.

- It's been there all day.
- I didn't say it was nice.

I said we always have a sausage roll
after a negotiation.

We have just received
this information.

The public prosecutor
announced the welcome news.

The girl was found alive
at a concrete factory

less than a kilometre
from where she disappeared.

I can confirm
Noor Hawal has been found.

She is suffering
from severe hypothermia

but the latest information is,
she is now out of danger.

I would specifically like to thank
the police and the volunteers

for their help with the search.
Thank you.

Our colleague Kristien Delaruelle
is still on the scene.

Kristien, the search is over.

Yes, the search is over...

Arne.

Stay there. I'll send backup.
Thibault, Geert!

What's going on?

They shot at my daughter.
You have to do something.

- She's bleeding.
- Who shot her?

There were two men.

Two men? Do you know them?

No, I don't know them.
Help her, please!

Is anyone else inside?

My daughter is lying there
bleeding to death. Tell them to hurry.

My colleagues are on their way.

Wait with the neighbours,
tell them to stay indoors.

Yes. There was one shot
and one person has been hurt.

Okay, I'll let everyone know
and call you back.

Yes, lvo.

No, nothing yet.

Hold on, a car's coming out.

Fuck, they're going to drive oh'.
I'll call you back.

Stop! Stop!

- Ivo to all units.
- You all right, Arne?

I'm fine. They tried to get away.

I shot out their tyres
and they drove back inside.

- I think they're in the garage.
- Are they armed?

Yes, they shot back at me.
Two men, I think.

- Two armed men in the garage.
- Light's gone out.

Bravo, set up a perimeter.
Tango, set up a command post.

Use the house on the corner.

- Arne, everything okay?
- Fine. What do we do now?

Find out what's going on.
Roeland and Ibrahim are coming.

Maybe try to take a look inside?

Fuck.

If you're not Intervention, get back.

If you can see windows,
you're in the wrong place.

Sirens and lights off, please.

We'll set up 100 metres further along,
at the neighbour's house.

- What's Vos doing here?
- Vos?

That's her car, isn't it?

I'd like Rolf Van Landschoot's
private number as quickly as possible.

A landline number.

Officer, let's start by
setting up a perimeter.

A tape there and one further
along the street. Thank you.

Guys, guys.

Take positions by the house.
Agree where with Oscar 3, okay?

Okay-

- Can we call them yet?
- Hold on a moment.

- There's a big chance Vos is in there.
- What?

Her car is parked beside the house
and her phone is off.

- Call, but don't ask about her.
- Why not?

Because Claudine didn't see her.
We don't know what's going on.

She may be hiding
or might not even be there.

Go on, call them.

Good evening.

This is Bram, Federal Police.
May I know who I am speaking to?

No. No, you may not.

Then can you tell me
what's going on in there?

- Maybe we can find a solution.
- Noth/ngis' going on.

SAME OFFENDER?

Sir, you say nothing's going on
but someone is injured.

A car was rammed, someone
shot at one of our colleagues.

- They shot at us first.
- Okay, maybe they did.

But I'd rather no one else was hurt
and I don't think you want that either.

Look, wouldn't...

Wouldn't it be a good idea
to at least send in a doctor?

- Then...
- I said you don't need to send anyone.

Everything's fine. Just stay away
from the house, understand?

If I see anyone come near,
I'll shoot someone. People will get hurt.

- Understood?
- Okay, we understand.

But I can hear that you are on edge.

So I suggest we hang up for a moment
and you take some time to calm down.

We'll call back in a minute
and we'll stay away from the house.

So there's no need to worry.
Is that a good idea?

Well done.

It's Roeland again.

That number I just called about,
can you block all incoming calls to it?

Except ours.

There's no time for that. Go over there.
Sierra 1 will put you in position, okay?

I don't believe this...

Guys, why is that tape so close?

Hang it further back,
out of sight of the garage.

And?

It's the same guy. He's a bit on edge,
so we'll call him back later.

- Did he say anything about Vos?
- No.

Nadia, it's Arne.

Can you check the mobile phone
records of Mercedes De Vos?

The past two hours.
Incoming, outgoing, everything.

I know, but tell them to hurry.

Get back, please. Thank you.

- Can you tell us what's going on?
- That isn't clear yet.

Shots were heard.
Can you tell us about that?

No, I can't at present.

If we have any more information,
it will be passed on as soon as possible.

Are they the same offenders as before?

I can only confirm
that there is an incident.

But our people have the situation
under control as much as possible.

So I would like to ask you
to let them do their job.

And in the interest
of everyone's safety,

I expect all of you to respect
the perimeter. Thank you.

Get back. Get back, everyone.
Thank you.

- Get back.
- We won't see much from here.

Ivo to Oscar 2 to 4. Up and running,
the images are coming in.

The moment a light goes on,
a curtain moves, I want to know.

Oscar 1, we have no images
from you yet. Over.

We're working on it. Just a second.

These people are asking
how long it will last.

No idea, okay?

Ivo, I've talked to Claudine again.
Her explanation is rather confused

but she said Vos brought Freya home
andthenlefi.

But apparently Freya had a visit
this evening before Vos got there,

from Tommy De Coninck,
Serge's brother.

What did he want?
He was worried about his brother,

who'd disappeared.

He asked Freya if he'd
said anything in the bank.

Could this Tommy be our second man?

Claudine saw two men drag Freya off.

She's not sure if one was Tommy.
I'm trying to get hold of him.

Oscar 3 to Ivo, urgent.

Yes, Oscar 3?

There's just been some movement
at the back.

A grid fell or was pushed from a wall.

- Okay, Oscar 3. Can you see who it is?
- Negafive, we.

Hold on.
Someone is poking their hands out.

I think they're tied together. Over.

Okay, Oscar 3.
Thibault is on his way.

Sierra 2, assistance, please.

Roeland to Ivo, we promised
we'd stay away from the house.

I know, Roeland,
but we're going to risk it.

Thibault to lvo, it's Vos.

Okay, Thibault. Check she's okay
and learn as much as you can.

Thibault to lvo. Vos has been taped up
but she's removing it now.

- Thibault...
- Everything okay, Vos?

- What's happened?
- We don't know. What about you?

I was talking to Freya and...

next thing I knew,
I woke up in a car boot

and heard shooting
and the sound of sirens.

- Who else is in there?
- I don't know.

Thibault to lvo, Vos is okay
but has no extra information.

- What do you know?
- We've surrounded the house.

We're certain there's
at least one armed man.

We've had phone contact.
The same guy as before.

Freya is also inside with a second man.
Offender or victim, we don't know.

- And the mother?
- The mother was able to escape.

We're considering what to do
but can't get in at the moment.

Give me your gun.

Thibault to lvo.
Vos has gone into the next room.

She's got my gun.
She heard something.

- Can you get in through the hole?
- Negaflve, we.

Ivo to all teams.
Thibault is in contact with Vos.

Stand by for instructions.
Sierra stay in position.

- Thibault, can you hear or see anything?
- Negative, Ivo. She's gone.

One of you stay there for now.
The other, come here.

Frederik to Ivo,
I'm here with Mr Van Landschoot.

Do I bring him in or...

No, put him in the van.
I'll come there.

- Can you stay on standby?
- Okay.

Ne, the number mates
have been checked.

Tommy De Coninck's car is here.
His phone is still off.

So he's our second man,
in the bank too.

His mother and sister-in-law
say he was in France.

- Is that confirmed?
- He was seen at a French petrol station

and only drove into Belgium
this evening.

Check that.
I'm going to speak to Van Landschoot.

M, 'mess are the house keys.

Bring Serge's wife here
as soon as possible.

Mr Van Landschoot,

we noticed an alarm system
at the front of your house.

Apart from alarms,
are there other things, cameras...

- Mr Van Landschoot?
- Is Freya still inside?

Yes, but we need to know
about any security measures.

- Your wife says you know.
- No, no cameras, just an alarm.

Any extra security
on doors and windows?

We have security doors
reinforced with steel plates

and the windows have
burglar-proof glass.

- And we can get in with these keys?
- Yes.

Unless the door is bolted
on the inside.

Ivo to Oscar, what happened?
Did anyone see anything?

- Oscar 3 to Ivo, negative.
- Oscar 2, negative.

- Oscar 1 to Ivo, negative.
- Oscar 4 also negative.

Call him. Ask him what happened.

What happened?

- Has someone been hurt?
- Nothing happened/

Can we send someone in?

You don't need to send anyone in.

As long as you stay away,
everything will be fine.

I need a car. Yeah.

Get me a car and clear the gate.

Look, I'll definitely pass on
your request.

But in exchange I'd like to suggest
that you think about an alternative.

Coming out unarmed.

Then all this is over.

I don't believe him.

It's not possible no one is hurt.

We have to know
what's going on in there.

Sierra 1 to lvo, in position. Over.

Ivo to Sierra, get ready to move.
Try to stay in the dark. Go.

GO, go!

Geert, can you see anything?

We're working on it, Ivo.

Roeland to lvo, they're calling.
We'll answer. Over.

- Ask about Vos?
- Best not to, I think.

Hello?

I asked you to stay away
from the house.

So how come that cop has a gun
she didn't have before?

So our colleague is there with you?

Is she hurt?

Did you think about my suggestion?

Did you think about my request?
Where's the car?

- I've put it to the public prosecutor...
- I don't care about that.

I want to know where the car is.

- She doesn't think it's a good idea.
- Nola good idea?

We can solve this without violence.

But I can tell you now,
arranging a getaway car, forget it.

- It's not going to happen.
- lfs no! going to happen?

Must I make an example
of your colleague

with the gun you fucking gave her?

- Geerk to No, urgent.
- Ivo to Geert, go ahead.

We have a visual of Vos.
She's right beneath that flat roof.

She's tied up
and I think her head is bleeding.

There's one person with her
but I can't see his face. Over.

I'm not coming out to be gunned down
b y you lot. That's not a proposition.

I'm just trying to find
a solution with you.

But we have to be able
to trust each other.

VOS TIED UP, WOUNDED

Look, you don't have to decide now.

But if someone in there is injured,
please let them come out.

Okay, I'll let someone go. But then
you have to do something for me.

Find someone.
Davy Seynaeve.

He was released last year
from Nieuwe Wandeling.

- Get me his number.
- Davy...?

Seynaeve.

Thibault to Ivo,
movement on the west side.

Didn't you just say
something about trust?

I don't have a clear visual. Someone
walked past the bathroom doorway.

- One person or more?
- One person. But maybe...

Ivo to Sierra, whafs happened?

Sierra to lvo, Thibault has been shot
at the front of the house.

lvo to Sierra, everyone back.
Urgent medical assistance for Thibault.

I repeat, urgent medical assistance
for Thibault.

Fucking hell!

This is your fault.
So don't bullshit me about trust.

Pull everyone back now
or the next one wit! get it too.

Do you fucking understand?

All teams, emergency meeting.
Hoeland, you too.

One of my colleagues is in trouble

and this is one of
the last numbers she called.

- What's this colleague's name?
- Vos. Mercedes De Vos.

- That's correct. She cal/ea'.
- Why? What did she want to know?

Okay. Guys, quickly, current situation.

Serge is still missing.
We don't know if he's in there.

His brother Tommy probably is.
Offender or victim, we don't know yet.

Is anyone looking for Davy's number?

- We're on it.
- Arne?

Vos called the prison a second time,
less than ten minutes ago.

- From that house?
- Yes.

Not with her phone.
An anonymous number.

She requested Davy Seynaeve's
visitors' list.

He was apparently Nils's cellmate.

- Why didn't she call us?
- Maybe the offender was listening.

- They're going to broadcast him live.
- What?

News2 has the offender on the line.
They're broadcasting him live.

- When? Right now?
- Tell them to stop.

No, no, he'll shoot someone
if they don't do it.

- Sr/7/ not under control.
- You're joking.

- Where is that being filmed from?
- I'll go.

A shot was heard and
a police officer was injured.

That person has now been removed

and the special units have withdrawn
to a safe distance.

But the building remains surrounded.

As I just said,

one of the offenders has
taken cover in the house

and that person has just called

our colleague on the scene,
Kristien Delaruelle.

Let's go over to Kristien.
Is that correct?

Have you got this man
on the line now?

Yes, and if all goes well,
we should be able to hear him.

- Sir, can you hear me?
- Yes.

You called us...

People aren't supposed
to be getting hurt?

but the cops seem to think otherwise.

I expressly asked them
to stay away from the house

but they are trying to get in
from all sides.

I just want people to realise
I don't want to turn this into a bloodbath

but if the cops make things impossible,

then people will get hurt.
You have to help me.

You have to show
that view of the house.

Which view?

That view of the house,
from the outside.

- I don't believe this.
- / don 7 know if thalis possible.

I'll have to check with the control room.

Yes, that view.
You have to stay with that view.

- I don'! know...
- Okay?

And no tricks. I can check any time
if we are being broadcast live.

And if anything or anyone
gets near the house,

I'll shoot them on the spot.

I think I've made myself clear enough.

You just heard that too.
A rather unexpected...

And now?

A message for the police. Kristien,
what was your impression of the man?

We've just heard.

The police tried to get into the house
in spite of previous agreements

and that probably angered
the hostage-taker in there.

We don't have any more information
about it for now.

You don 7 know
what? happening in there.

You heard the man say
he doesn't want anyone to get hurt.

Yes. Whether it is actually
the same offender as earlier

is still unclear. So...

- Yes. Okay.
- And we are oh' air.

- Jokke, what are we going to do?
- Kristien, is that your producer?

- Sorry, Jokke.
- May I talk to him?

Put me on the speaker.

- Can you hear me?
- Yes, loan hear you.

He can see you too.

Good evening, Arne Michiels,
Federal Police.

I know who you are. You're the cop
who threatened my crew.

I suggest you do
what he's asking for,

continue to broadcast
that view of the house.

We were planning to. Is that all?

No, I want to know if there is any way
of getting around that.

- What?
- That view and the fact it's live.

Keep out of sight as much as possible.

Oscar, keep an eye on the windows.

Split up by the house.
One team to the door

and one to each downstairs window,
as quickly as possible.

Is that clear?

Okay, go.

I assume you know
what Tommy's voice sounds like?

I said don'! send anyone in.
Everything is fine.

- No, that's not Tommy.
- But do you know that voice?

I said don'! send anyone in.
Everything is fine.

- No.
- Susan, if you know anything, tell us.

Shots were heard inside,
Tommy's car is here.

What's he doing here in the middle of
the night? ls Serge there too, is that it?

Is it the two of them?

I don't know.

Right. Icalled our legal department
and the answer is no.

We're not going to do it.

- Why not'?
- If we fiddle with the picture

and that guy realises
and shoots someone,

we don't want that responsibility.

- What if I assume responsibility?
- Iris' sf/7/ no. We can 'l r/ls/r it.

We will continue to broadcast that view
as he asked, but that's it.

Okay? So I suggest
you stay there until...

- May I say something?
- Ste/f ofd/fl/ma/re myself clear?

It's not my fault.

There are people in there.
If we can help, we should...

If I want a sound man is opinion,
I'll ask for ii. Okay?

Do as I ask
and wait until I call back.

Okay. I have to go back.

Thanks for trying, guys. Thanks.

Hold on.
Can't we doctor the pictures here?

We'll do it ourselves.

- Before we send them to Brussels?
- Yes.

- Arne to Ivo.
- No here.

lvo, we 're going lo e077 the house
inlo a still of the surroundings.

Then they won't see us coming on TV.

It will take some time
but I'll keep you posted. Okay?

Okay, Arne.

Ivo to Sierra 1, 2 and 3.

Take up positions
out of sight of the windows.

Stand by to approach the house.

Okay, Ivo.

I'm afraid I can't answer that.
It forms part of the investigation.

Ivo to Arne, how long there?

- Another 30 seconds or so.
- Another 30 seconds, Ivo.

That should do.

Arne to lvo, we're ready.
Tell us when we can go ahead. Over.

What's up?

There could be a hitch in the image.

It that guy in there sees that, then...

Ivo to Arne, green light for image swap.
Over.

Go ahead. I'll take responsibility.

Arne to lvo, image swap successful.

Ivo to Sierra, get ready to move.

And go.

- Geen to No.
- Ivo to Geen. Go ahead.

We have a visual of Vos
but she's not moving.

I get the impression she's losing a lot
of blood and I think she's unconscious.

One person is standing next to her
with a gun. Over.

Ivo to Geen,
is he about to shoot her?

I don't think so. He's talking to someone
but I can't see who.

Hold on.

He's leaving. He's gone, over.

Geen', don't do anything yet.
I'll quickly confer.

What are the odds of solving this
by negotiating?

I think it's still possible.

Roeland?

I'm not saying it's not possible...

We can call, we can keep trying

but if Vos is lying there
bleeding to death...

If you're able to take out that guy,
I'd do it, I really would.

I wouldn't hesitate.

- Ivo to Geert.
- Gee/There.

If that man tries to shoot Vos or
anyone else, you may eliminate him.

- You don't need to wait for permission.
- Okay, Iva, understood

Yeah?

I've got news of Davy Seynaeve
but I doubt our offender will like it.

Thank you.

Mr Van Landschoot
wants to speak to you.

- Not now.
- It's urgent.

- Ivo to Geert, did you see anything?
- Negative, /vo.

Call him.

And keep up the questions.
No more crap about no one being hurt.

- Ivo, I'd storm the place.
- Hello?

What happened?
Has someone been hurt?

Go ahead.

We tried to contact Davy Seynaeve.

As you asked.

I've told you, don't.
You're going to listen for once.

- We've only got one daughter.
- That's got nothing to...

It has everything to do with it.
You have to stand up for our daughter.

- What's going on?
- It's nothing. Nothing.

- I need to tell you about Fr...
- No.

- What about Freya, Rolf?
- Not any more! It used to be like that!

- But that was our fault!
- Freya is different.

We've been through a lot with her.

If she doesn't get her way,
Freya can be very cruel.

I hope I'm wrong and
she has nothing to do with this.

Rolf, you're telling lies.
