(hinge squeals)

- [Security Guard] Still no
sign of any ghosts yet, sir.

- [Man] Of course not,
but the chief wants

this haunted house
nonsense resolved.

Give it a few more
hours and then go home.

- Sir, if I may--

- [Man] No!

- Sir, sir?

(ghostly whispering)

(gun firing)

- [Dick] Dad?

- [Bobby] But you're dead.

- Hardly, someone
tried to kill me.

- Hey, I'm Dick Daring.

- Tracy Grace.

- I want you and Tracy
to take over my agency

and run Daring Investigators.

(thrilling music)

(screaming)

- Bobby finally makes
it into the riddle box.

- Your turn to play, bro.

- So what are we supposed to do?

Combine them and make
a different color?

- Like black or brown maybe?

- Okay, then what?

This is all so weird
'cause Dad knows that I got

out of art class by pretending
to be completely colorblind.

- Well then it wouldn't
matter which color you picked

because both of them
look the same, right?

- [Bobby] Right.

- [Dick] Good call, bro.

- The Archibald House,
a landmark in Rockwater

for generations.

Recently it has become
unrentable because tenants

believe it's haunted.

Its current owner, Mrs.
Ballagio bought the house

about a year, she
needs the rental income

to support herself.

She needs our help in proving
that her house isn't haunted.

- Weird.
- Cool.

I've heard about that
place, all the kids

think it's haunted.

- Paranormal phenomena.

Well how can we be certain that
there are any ghosts at all?

- Spend the night in
the Archibald House.

Then you'll know.

- [Dick] What's all this?

- It's a list of some of
the stuff we're gonna need

at the Archibald House tonight.

- [Dick] Baking soda?

- Mm-hm, one part baking
soda and two parts water

is uniquely sensitive
to ectoplasmic activity.

- Ectoplasmic activity.

- Ghosts.
- Oh.

So if ghosts are
present, it fizzes.

- Exactly, now gelatin is
another way of detecting

a presence of ghosts.

- It's her.

- [Katia] I'll
have a cappuccino.

- Make that two.

- Hi.
- Hi.

You're new here?
- Yeah.

- Great, um, what
class are you taking?

- Oh, I haven't enrolled yet.

- Excuse me?

- Well I just wanted to
check the school out first.

- And?

- I think it'll do.

- Suddenly a chill
filled the air.

I felt its breath against
my face and looked up

to see it standing
there as real as life.

It beckoned me to follow
but I dared not go.

It beckoned me again.

Bullock, no wonder you
requested time off.

You've cracked, man.

Flipped your wig,
spilled your kettle,

spent your cash.

Dispatch, have a cruiser
patrol the Archibald House

every couple of hours,
we got kids breaking in

and causing trouble.

Ghosts, ba hum bug.

(mysterious music)

- So 6:30?
- Yeah, tonight.

- Okay.
- All right.

- See ya.
- See ya.

So about tonight
at the Archibalds.

- Mm-Hm.

- I'm not gonna be
able to make it.

- Uh-huh.

- I'm getting
together with Katia.

- Oh, mystery girl has a name?

- Yeah, she could be
our link to Chin Man.

So I'm gonna get to know
her better and find out

if there is a real connection.

- Sure.

- Okay, well I gotta go
to basketball practice.

And Bobby's gonna be
there with you tonight.

So how long is it gonna
take to prove this whole

ghost thing is bunk?

- [Claire] Where are you going?

- To a sleepover, remember?

- The details escape me.

- Dick, Tracy and I
are spending the night

at the old Archibald House.

He's helping me with
a science project.

- Sure, like I see
the connection.

I've got news for
you, young man.

You're not going anywhere.

- But why?

- You and I are gonna work on
your science project together.

I'm perfectly capable
of helping you

with whatever you need.

- But this project
needs proper research.

I'm preparing a report
on paranormal phenomena.

- My specialty.

There is little about ESP,
telepathy, clairvoyance

and poltergeists that
I'm not familiar with.

- But this is real
research with real ghosts.

- This is your
real aunt talking.

You need proper
care and supervision

that only a grown
up can provide.

I've been too slack
with you so tonight,

as we adults like to say,

you're grounded.

- [Boy] Great practice

- Yeah, we're gonna be in
great shape for the game

next week.

Just wanna go over the new
play the coach gave us.

- No problem, but couldn't
we discuss this over pizza

with the guys?

- I kinda wanna do
it here, it's quiet.

- Too quiet.

Something's up.

- No.

- Uh-huh, you wouldn't be
waiting here for someone,

would you?

- No.

- A girl, I knew it.

- Come on, man.

- Must be pretty special
for you to be waiting here

in the dark like this.

- Okay, so I am, but
it's strictly business.

Well you let me know when it
starts to get personal, okay?

(mysterious music)

- No, Dick, no,
Bobby, this is insane.

Archibald came to the Rockwater
area in the mid-1800s.

Family of five, son and two
daughters built their home

from the ground up
on 160 acres of land.

Passed the home and the
land onto their children.

In the family for
six generations.

One year ago, the last
of the Archibalds died.

For the first time
in almost 150 years,

an Archibald did not
live in the house.

(tapping)
(ghostly whispering)

It's just the wind.

Of course it's the wind,
what else would it be?

- [Claire] Where are you going?

- Just stretching.

- Read me what you've
written so far?

- This isn't homework, it's
the Spanish Inquisition.

- Read.

- Throughout history, mankind
has searched for answers

to the paranormal.

Are there such things
as ghosts, goblins

and things that go bumpf--

- Bumpf?

- That's all I've got.

- You've been at
it for two hours.

- I can't write from conjecture.

I need proof.

- You're not going to the
Archibald House and that's that.

- Then I'm writing
from hearsay evidence.

That's morally compromising.

- Violate your integrity
and finish the essay.

- Why did Bullock have
to take the day off?

This is it.

(phone ringing)

Murphy here.

You what?

You saw a light on at
the Archibald House.

What time would that be, ma'am?

You sure about this?

Thank you for calling.

Dispatch, there's activity
at the Archibald House,

have Nelson make a pass
by there right now.

- She stood me up.

(tense music)

(tapping)

(tapping)

- [Bobby] Hey, open
up, it's Bobby.

- [Tracy] You finally made it.

- It took forever
for Aunt Claire

to fall asleep.

Meet any ghosts yet?

- No, but you scared
me pretty good.

- When?

- Hiding outside after you
knocked the first time.

- I never hid.

- [Tracy] What?

(knocking on door)

- Maybe it's a ghost.

(nervous laughing)

- [Tracy] Look who's here,
thought you had an appointment.

- I guess I didn't.

- Well isn't this
cozy, it's showtime.

Ghostbusters are here.

(phone ringing)

- Must be Nelson about
the Archibald House.

But why Bullock's phone?

Murphy here.

Your cat's stuck on
the roof, please hold.

Dispatch, put Nelson through
to me as soon as he calls.

Murphy here.

Your son has mailed
himself to Wisconsin.

- It's almost midnight,
better get him home

before Aunt Claire wakes up.

- Yeah, there's nothing
much happening here anyway.

So I guess you didn't need
to come here after all.

- I guess so.

- Ever been stood up before?

- Actually, no, you?

- I don't put myself in a
position where I can be.

- Meaning?

- I check out the merchandise
first before I buy it.

- You think I was asking
for it with Katia,

is that what you're saying?

- Your words not mine.

- Well I'm sure she had a
perfectly good explanation.

- Yeah, you hope.

Look, I'm sorry but
I just can't see you

handling rejection very well.

- I haven't had that
much experience.

- Oh, right, I
forgot, Mr. All Star.

I'm sure you have girls
drooling all over you.

- I've had my share of
drool, but nothing serious.

- Hm, none of them your type?

- Not yet.
- Not surprised.

- Oh, so now you're an
expert on who's my type.

- Hmm, someone who's
drop dead gorgeous,

the bold, independent streak
and willing to sacrifice

all personal ambition
to follow you

to the end of the earth.

- Sounds great to me.

- Never happen.

- [Dick] Maybe
not in your world.

- Not in any woman's world,
we're not made that way.

At least not anymore.

- You know what I think?

I think it's the
other way around.

I think it's what you
want that's impossible.

- Oh, here we go.

- A guy who's irresistibly
handsome and strong,

yet who feels totally vulnerable
and incomplete without you.

- My kind of guy.

- A lapdog.

- No, a real person.

(tapping)

- You expecting someone?

(tapping)

(mysterious music)
(hinges squealing)

- This is the same trick
that Bobby played on me.

- [Dick] What are
you talking about?

- [Tracy] What is going on?

(thudding)

- I'm not sure, but I'm not
gonna wait around and find out.

Let's wake Bobby
and get out of here.

- Bobby?

Bobby?

- [Dick] Maybe he
decided to go home.

- Yeah, sure, he just
got up and walked

through the wall.

- This is one of his jokes.

- Those noises are no joke.

- So what are you saying,
this house is haunted?

- How else would you explain it?

- Lots of houses creak,
it's no big deal.

(glass shattering)

- I needed to talk to you alone,

the older ones would
never believe me.

- Who are you?

Are you real?

You're so cold.

You can't let another
family take our home,

you must stop them.

- I don't understand.

- You must.

(gasping)

- What's the big idea?

- Why were you
making those noises?

- Come on, I told her
that she could trust you,

that you'd help her.

- Who?
- The ghost.

- Okay, hold it, I'm
not falling for anymore

of your little tricks.

- She's real, I swear.

- Save it for Halloween.

- [Bobby] She's gone.

- [Dick] She was never here.

- She knew you
wouldn't believe her,

that's why she left.

(phone ringing)

- Murphy.

Officer Nelson, nice of
you to check in finally.

There is a light on at
the Archibald House.

Those hooligans, stay
right there, I'm on my way.

(buttons beeping)

Bullock.

- Okay, so she told
you that the house

had been kept in the
family for six generations

and then a year ago when
the last Archibald died,

the house was sold.

- They've been spooking
every tenant since

so no one will
want to live here.

It's the only way they
knew to keep their home

in the family.

- His facts match up
with what I learned.

- He could've gotten all
that off the internet.

- The ghost told me
everything I swear.

- If there is a ghost then
why doesn't she just appear?

That would solve everything.

- She's frightened.
- Of us?

(tapping)

(mysterious music)

So are you gonna
answer it or not?

- [Murphy] What an
unexpected surprise.

- [Tracy] Good evening,
Lieutenant Murphy.

- So this is the big bad
boogy man house, eh, Bullock?

- [Bullock] Yes, sir.

- [Murphy] This is where all
your training, discipline

and experience went
right into the dumper.

- Yes, sir, this very room.

- [Murphy] And you, Mr.
Daring, obviously share

Bullock's passion
for the spirit world.

- No, not me, I don't
believe in this stuff.

- Then what are you
doing in this house?

You're trespassing.

- We have the
owner's permission.

- I don't care, I
want you out of here.

This dump has caused
me nothing but trouble.

I'm gonna push to
have it condemned.

Make sure they're gone in one
minute, I'll be in the car.

- Well I guess the party's over.

- But what about the ghost?

- Come on, Bobby,
let's just go home.

- But she needs our help,
her family needs us.

I promised her we'd help.

- Sorry, we gotta
leave the premises.

- [Ghost] Bobby.

- Guys.

- Um, guys.

- What?

- The original Archibalds.

Hey, any word yet?

- Yep, the mayor
bought your plan.

- All right.

- Haunted house museum,
pure genius, bro.

- The Archibald House is
now open to the public.

- The ghost family doesn't
lose their home to anyone else.

- No, and the owner Mrs.
Ballagio, she's got a guaranteed

tenant, the city of Rockwater.

- I'm still having a problem
believing what we saw

was actually real.

- It was real, believe it.

- I'm not so sure, it
was late, we were tired.

- So you'd have no objection
to going back there

tonight then and
making absolutely sure.

- Tonight? Um.

(beeping)

- It's your dad.

- Hi, guys, how's
my ghost brigade?

- The place was haunted but
everyone can live with that

so case closed.

- Well done, I'm still
reviewing the surveillance tapes

you sent me of the antique
store trying to match faces

to the Chin Man's
known contacts.

- Well, we might have a lead.

- [Dick] Who?

- Um, the sales girl
from the antique store,

her name's Katia.

- Well I'd wait until
she was cleared.

- Too late for that.

- [Dick] What do you mean?

- Um, I already met with her.

- All right, but
no further contact.

Hear that, could be dangerous.

(phone ringing)

- [Tracy] Hello?

- [Katia] I was calling
for Dick Daring?

- Yeah, this is Dick.

- [Katia] I'm so sorry
I couldn't meet you,

but something came
up and I feel awful.

So Dick, can we try again?

(mysterious music)

(MultiCom Jingle)
