Dick Jr. and Tracy's involvement in the Penny Alvarez case puts them at odds with the temperamental Lt. Murphy, who is determined to dismiss the talk of aliens in the town. During the ...

(MultiCom Jingle)

(creaking)

- Please let me go.

Please.

I'll make them understand.

I won't let them hurt you.

I promise.

(creaking)

Stay away from me!

I'll never let you take me away!

Never!

(gun firing)

- [Dick] Dad?

- [Bobby] But you're dead.

- Hardly.

Someone tried to kill me.

- Hey, I'm Dick Daring.

- Tracy Grace.

- I want you and Tracy
to take over my agency

and run Daring Investigators.

(upbeat rock music)

- [Tracy] Ahh!

(upbeat rock music)

- That is one unhappy cop.

You can see why he and
my dad never got along.

- I always thought that PIs
and police work together.

- Ha, only in the
movies, sweetheart.

- Murphy lost his
shot at making captain

when my dad scooped
him on a big case.

The man never forgave him.

(electronic beeping)

- It's dad.

(electronic whooshing)

- How are the alien
busters doing?

- Oh, just great.

Our so-called eyewitness
called us first

and then had a change
of heart and went

over to the dark side and
spilled her guts to Murphy.

(laughing)

- Well, I wouldn't
worry about Murphy.

He'd probably just laugh
her out of the office.

(laughing)

So, did you get a hold of
Lenad to tell him I was okay?

- Lenad's dead.

His wife says he drowned
in a boating accident

in the Black Sea.

- They got to him, too.

There goes the one piece
of evidence that proves

someone was after me.

All right, listen.

I'm going to--

- Sorry to bother you,

but a foreign presence is
about to enter your space.

- Aunt Claire.

- Switching to alternate mode.

- Well you're becoming a
fixture around here, aren't you?

- Yeah, yeah I guess.

- I was so pleased
when Dick told me

he had a math tutor.

A mind is a terrible
thing to waste.

- Oh, I'm convinced
his intelligence

is inversely proportional
to the number of points

he scores in a season.

- Then I must be a genius.

- Anyway, sorry to interrupt
your little get together,

but I thought you
might be interested in

the press conference.

- What press conference?

- That's it.

- As you know, we've discovered
some important new evidence,

and forensic analysis of
Penny Alvirez's sweater

shows tears that most
probably resulted

from forceful confrontation,

which would lead us to believe
that the girl was abducted.

- We've been informed
that the sweater

was burned in various
places and that the damage

was caused by radiation.

Could you comment?

- Ah, there are indications
that the sweater

was exposed to some
form of intense heat,

but it's too soon to
draw any conclusions.

- But don't the radiation
burns and the report

of blinding bursts
of light substantiate

the Alvirez's claims
that their daughter

was abducted by aliens?

- Penny was not
abducted by aliens,

for the simple reason
that there are no aliens.

- There are deep disturbances
in the collective psyche.

Very deep.

- [Dick] Chill, Aunt Claire.

He's not about to have a close
encounter of a third kind.

- [Claire] I'd settle
for any encounter.

(bell ringing)

(kids chatting in background)

- So what's this I hear
about you and Taylor?

- Excuse me?

- Come on, somebody
finally melt the ice queen?

- Get a life, Nicole.

- Well, not that I care,
but watch your back.

- What are you saying?

- Well, not that I care,

but I hear the guy
can get pretty psycho.

I mean, call you in the
middle of the night,

leave notes all over school,

follow you wherever you go.

- I hate to spoil
your fun, Nicole,

but nothing's going on
between Taylor and I.

- Ah, well, Penny Alvirez
went gaga after the guy

until she finally woke
up and tried to end it.

Taylor could not deal with it.

He went psycho until
Penny had to threaten

to call the cops.

Bye.

- All right, sweethearts,
let's liven things up.

The playoffs are only
a few weeks away.

(whistle blowing)

Gentlemen, may I present his
royalness, Captain Daring.

You okay?

You gettin' through?

Don't have to tell
you, we missed you.

You ready for some ball?

- What's with the new paint job?

- Don't go there.

All right, let's see
if his highness still

has what it takes.

(whistle blowing)

(whistle blowing)

- [Dick] So they said
this Taylor guy was okay.

You know, nice
smile and all that.

- Yeah, well, he didn't
check out so good

when he came to
breaking up with Penny.

Let's just say he's one
crayon short of a box.

How many times have
you picked a lock?

- Never.

But I saw my dad do it once.

So I had to try it.

- Great.

Look, if I thought you
were going to be all day

I would've brought lunch.

- If you keep talking
I'm not gonna be able

to decipher the combination.

- Finally.

Guy's an animal.

- So I take it it's
over between you?

- Eh.

Just your average
locker junk, huh?

- God, this light must
be over a 1000 watts.

What could he possibly
want with this stuff?

(bell ringing)

- All right.

(upbeat music)

Hey, Taylor.

- [Taylor] Tracy,
hey how you doin'?

- How you doin'?

I'm good.

Um, I was sort of wondering
maybe if you wanted

to set up that math.

- [Taylor] Yeah, sure.

What time?

- Um, 5:30?

- [Taylor] 5:30? Your house?

- Yeah, sure.

- [Taylor] All right.

- [Tracy] My house.

- [Taylor] Okay.

- [Tracy] I guess so.

Okay, thanks Taylor.

Bye.

- [Taylor] Yeah, no problem.

See you later.

- Two hours I spent with
Taylor trying to get him

to understand the
difference between

a constant and a variable.

Basic math.

- Yeah, well whatever.

We found what we
were looking for.

- The guy's a complete loser.

To tell you the truth,
he gives me the creeps.

- This light is the kind
that works in series.

Like say 20 or 30 in a row.

A setup like that
would be intense.

- Like how intense?

- Blinding.

- How blinding?

- Like blinding
versa light blinding.

- Are you thinking
what I'm thinking?

(telephone ringing)

- Hello, Daring Investigators.

Vern speaking.

- [Bobby] Oh no, not Vern.

- [Vern] Oh, hi Bobby.

Nice to hear from you, too.

- [Bobby] Listen, Vern.

I need to speak
to Tracy or Dick.

- No problem.

Who should I say is calling?

- It's me, you virtual moron.

Bobby.

- [Vern] I'm sorry,
Bobby's not in right now.

- Of course not.

I'm on the phone with you.

(beeping)

- Hey, bro, what's up?

- I asked around and
found out that Taylor

has a truck which
he brings to school.

So I checked it out.

- And?

- In the tool
compartment in the back

I found 12 more light bulbs.

Same kind, same wattage.

- I knew it.

- [Bobby] And something else.

- What?

- A delivery slip.

It seems Taylor works part-time
for Hayward's Hardware.

The lights and the
four extension cords

were for the North
End Community Center.

He was going to drop
them off this afternoon.

- Oh.

- The dude is squeaky clean.

(upbeat rock music)

- Listen, I've got an uneasy
feeling about Daring's kid.

Find out all he knows
about the Alvirez girl.

- Yes, sir.

- And while you're at it,
get me another cup of coffee.

- Sir, if I may?

Coffee's not good for
your blood pressure.

- Questioning the orders
of a superior officer

is even worse for
my blood pressure.

- Yes, sir.

(keyboard clicking)

- [Dick] Find anything?

- Actually I'm doing schoolwork.

This assignment
is two days late,

thanks to playing cops
and robbers with you.

- You agreed, remember?

- Second big mistake.

- What was your first?

- Following you home
the first day we met.

- Ouch.

Guess we're not cut out
for this sort of thing.

- I guess not.

- We were so close.

Now I feel like we're
a million miles away.

- Well, I'm just upset
because we can't help Penny.

- Well let's look
on the bright side.

I mean, instead of sitting
at home watching TV,

we're out chasing aliens.

- And anxious parents.

- A dipthonian.

- And good old
Liuetenant Murphy.

(laughing)

- Remember what my dad's
first words of advice were

when we started this case?

- [Tracy] My bet's
on the aliens.

- Trust your gut, Tracy.

- Yeah, well, my gut
tells me I better get

this assignment finished.

- Local resident claims
to be the eyewitness

to an alien abduction of
17-year-old Penny Alvirez.

Fearing she might be
their next victim,

Ms. Rita Bellows
bravely came forward

with her incredible story
of aliens kidnapping

a teenage girl.

(low humming)

(suspenseful music)

Oh god, I think
they're comin' for me.

(telephone ringing)

Hello?

- [Speaker] Ms. Bellows?

- Yes?

- [Speaker] We wondered
if you could answer

our skill testing question.

Do you believe in aliens
or really cool light shows?

(laughing)

- Well, so much for the
alien conspiracy theory.

- Well, so what?

So we can simulate
some blinding light

and some sonic noise.

It's a cute stunt but it doesn't
prove Taylor's involvement.

- Well I'd say those lights
are pretty heavy proof.

- Yeah, well so is his
job at the hardware store.

- Coincidence or was
it planned that way?

(computer beeping)

It's about time.

We haven't heard from
him since we gave him

the news about Lenad.

- Hi, son.

Hello, Tracy.

- Hi.

- Where were you?

We were worried about you.

- When you gave me
the news about Lenad,

I was forced to change the plan.

I've been trying to
protect you by not telling

you too much, but
now I need your help,

so here it goes.

Lenad was my hired
bodyguard when I discovered

that they were after me.

- Who?

- I don't know.

Lenad was watching my back,

recording their comings
and goings as evidence

should anyone make
a move against me.

Then they did make a move.

That video tape contains
vital information

that could crack this case.

Lenad was trying
to bring it to me,

but they got to him first.

- So where's the tape now?

- Bottom of the Black
Sea for all I know.

I'll have to take
another angle on it.

So how about you two?

How goes the Alvirez
investigation?

- Not good.

Lots of clues, but
no hard evidence.

- Like I said before,
my money's on the alien.

- Dipthonian.

- Major nutbar.

- Major geek.

- I guess this is where
I let you do your thing

and I just hang around
looking completely redundant?

- Do we have a
self-esteem problem here?

- No.

- Well, do you have any
objection to me taking the lead

in certain situations?

- Uh, no.

- Do my extraordinary
computing skills

intimidate you in any way?

- Of course not.

- Good, then I can
get back to work

and crack this case.

- See, that's what I mean.

What you just said right there?

You cracking the case.

- What about it?

- Well, it's postulating
a hypothesis based

solely on
circumstantial evidence.

- English?

- We're cracking the
case together, okay?

It's not you cracking it.

- Oh, so we've got this
equality thing going.

Okay, I can live with that.

- Okay.

So I'll just go over to
that counter over there

and work on a strategy.

- Strategy?

Right, good idea.

I'll be right here
if you need me.

- Cool.

- So?

What did you learn
about Daring's kid?

What's he got on
the Alvirez case?

- Ah, pphhh, ah, he's ah,

he's teamed up
with a young girl.

Tracy Grace.

They go to the same high school.

Her parents are highly educa--

- I didn't ask for a
personal biography.

What are they up to?

What do they know?

- Ah, well, they interviewed
Penny's old boyfriend,

ah, a Taylor Jackson.

- Oh, wow.

What else?

- Ah.

- Hey, strategy man.

- What's this?

- Mmm, nothing much.

Just Dipthonian's address.

- What?

- I hacked into his
Internet service provider

and opened up their
customer database.

Got his personal
billing information.

- All right, I'm impressed.

But all this for some
galactic fruitcake?

- Hey, if your dad's
betting on the alien,

so am I.

(sirens wailing)

(phone ringing)

- Bullock here.

Really? Hold on.

Cruiser just spotted those kids

entering Bringham's Warehouse.

- What in the world would
they be doing there?

Tell 'em to hold their position.

We'll be right there.

- [Bullock] Hold your position.

We'll be right there.

(creaking)

(suspenseful music)

(creaking)

- Okay, Bobby.

We're inside.

Any sign of trouble
you call the cops.

- Roger that, good buddy.

- Roger that, good buddy?

- That's what all
good spies say.

- Right.

(suspenseful music)

- [Alien] Penny, you must eat.

- [Penny] No, I'm
sick of your food.

- Oh my god, it's Penny.

- I'm sick of being here.

- And the computer.

Dipthonian's website.

- [Alien] We have a
long trip ahead of us.

You must be ready.

You have been chosen.

- I'm not going with you.

I'm not going anywhere.

Do you understand?

- What are we gonna do?

- Bobby?

Call in the troops.

Bobby?

(computer beeping)

- I assume you're
doing your homework?

- Um, absolutely.

(computer beeping)

- I agreed to give
you the afternoon off

because you weren't
feeling well.

- Um.

- You and I are going
to have a little talk

about responsibility.

(computer beeping)

- We lost Bobby.

- What are you doing?

(sighing)

Are you serious?

He's playing superhero.

- [Alien] Why do you fight it?

You have been chosen.

- Take me home.

I want to go home!

Now!

(loud breathing)

- [Alien] I'm afraid
I can't allow that.

(loud breathing)

(dramatic music)

- Why did you do that?

- Take me home, Taylor.

I won't lay charges.

I swear.

- We'll never be together again.

- But we can always be friends.

- I don't want to be friends.

I want more.

I, I want more.

(creaking)

- [Dick] Taylor!

Taylor!

(upbeat dramatic music)

- Ahh!

(gasping and grunting)

- [Murphy] So what
do we have here?

- Penny will tell
you everything.

- [Bullock] Ladies.

- Why play detective
like your old man?

- I guess it's in the blood.

- Out of respect for
your dead father,

I'll leave you be this time.

But hear me clearly.

You continue poking your
nose where it doesn't belong,

there's gonna be trouble.

You got that?

- Yes, officer.

- It's Lieutenant.

- Penny's home,
Taylor's been arrested.

I love tidy endings.

- You gotta wonder
what was going through

Taylor's head when he
thought all this up.

- Radiation burns
were the coolest part.

Using doses of x-rays
to create the effect?

Genius.

- Well, boys, it's been real.

But I gotta get back to my life.

- Fair enough.

That was our deal.

I just wish we
could help my dad.

I called Lenad's widow.

She's gone.

No forwarding address.

(door opening)

- Hey, guys.

I found this on the front step.

I do hope you're
staying for dinner.

- Oh, Claire, thanks.

But I really gotta--

- Oh, no trouble.

I'm serving the boys' favorite.

Garlic and herb pudding.

I have enough for seconds.

- Your father will want this.

Lenad sent it to me
just before his death.

I pray for all of you.

The evidence dad
was talking about.

(suspenseful music)

- It's dad.

(suspenseful music)

- Gen's for real.

- [Bobby] Let's
call him Chin Man.

- All right.

I'm in.

(upbeat music)

(MultiCom Jingle)
