As proof of good faith, Theo told Annie that Henry Wilcox finances terror trough Chinese businessman Xu Chen and his wife Wendy, a petty diplomat. Auggie is promoted to Joan's previous post, but a jealous rival sees to it that's only a day, then Henry, who eagerly taunts Arthur, helps bring in Calder, the Colombian 'sheriff'. Itzin, Gregory Henry Wilcox Auggie tells Annie why he deeply mistrusts Teo and can't commit to a relationship without due professional confidentiality. Annie approaches the Chinese, promising protection when henry senses being observed, but a sinister surprise awaits in the Florida safe-house.

- Eric.
- Hi, Joan.

You're up for
the DCS job, too.

Can I just say that it's such
an honor to be working

for the first woman
to be DCS?

My name is Calder Michaels,

and I'm the station chief here
in Medellin.

Arthur, I know Teo
is your son.

He's an undercover operative
inside ALC.

Teo Braga is
a known terrorist.

Shots! Shots!

I could have killed
the entire delegation.

And now the CIA
is specifically hunting you,

from the local station chief
to the ex-DCS,

a man named Henry Wilcox.

I'm not looking for
a partner, darling.

I think I've earned it.

You've got to give me something,

so I know we have a pact.

Wendy and Xu Chen,
two Chinese nationals

living in D.C.
who move billions of dollars

for organizations like ALC.

- Too high.
- Hey, I'm not aiming.

- You should be.
- Because you think

I'm vulnerable after
what happened in Colombia?

I take it we're alone.

Completely.

Henry asked you
to take Teo off the board

to prove that you're in.

What are you going to tell him
when he finds out

you decided to let him
go instead?

I can take care of Henry.

You start thinking that way
and you've lost already.

You need a story.

Henry is too smart to think
I'm really working for him.

You still need a story.

Okay, how's this?
I couldn't find Teo Braga.

Cute, but lies will
trip you up.

The truth is
easier to remember.

Okay, I caught Teo.

I took him to
a CIA black site.

There was a breach in security,
and he escaped.

All of which is documented
in Calder Michaels's report,

which you're gonna need
for backup,

'cause I guarantee you, Henry
has moles inside this building.

That's our only play.

You think I made us all
vulnerable by letting Teo go?

You did what you did,
and now we need to contain it.

Teo gave us a chance
to find out

who funded the Solstar bombing

when he gave us
Wendy and Xu Chen.

We have to act on that.

Wendy and Xu Chen,
two Chinese nationals

living and working
here in D.C.

He's a V.P.
at the World Bank.

She is an attache
at the Chinese embassy

with access to courier pouches
and diplomatic immunity.

Their contacts called
a meeting.

The best way to find out
who the Chens

are laundering money for is for
me to get a lot closer to them.

I just have one question--

what made Teo tell you
about the Chens?

I asked him for a piece
of intel, to prove himself.

Why is it still so hard for you
to trust him?

Until last week,

he was still presenting
as a guerilla terrorist.

He's Arthur's son,
and he saved my life.

And you saved his.
Now you're even.

Joan wants to see everybody.

Good morning.

Thank you for all your support
during this time of transition.

As the new director
of clandestine services,

it falls upon me to name

a temporary replacement
to my former position.

This person's
exemplary service

to this department has
made my choice a very easy one.

Everyone,
please congratulate

the new interim head
of the DPD,

Auggie Anderson.

Auggie, it's all yours.

Thanks, Joan.

All right, everyone,

Congrats, man.
I mean, sir.

Well, sir...

I'll have to congratulate you
properly in private.

Kissing up
to the boss already, huh?

So, you already knew
about this.

When did Joan tell you?

She told me last night,

but until she got confirmation
this morning,

she swore me to secrecy.

- Even from me?
- It wasn't my secret to tell.

Still, it's a big thing.

It would have been nice
to hear it from you, that's all.

Being together can't change
how we work.

I just don't want our jobs
to change us.

That's what matters to me.

I am so glad you said that,

because I was gonna
have to quit.

I don't want you to quit.

Good, 'cause I just got
a promotion.

Yeah, I could use
a little more closet space.

Mine is full of toys.

Yeah, expensive ones.

That tablet is
your master control.

The Chen's apartment is laid out
basically just like yours.

The wireless low frequency
sensors we placed should pick up

most of the vocals
from next door,

and we were able to put a camera
above the Chens' parking space,

so at least
you'll be able to tell

Oh, you know.

Typical agency rental.
Yeah.

I picked it, so I kind of

Hello, Eric.

Now are you convinced

I'm convinced the Chens are
a solid mark, so keep listening.

Hang on.

Yes, of course.
20 minutes.

A call just came in
to Xu's cell.

They're on their way to a meet.
I'm right behind them.

Okay, good luck.

I thought you said I was
the type who didn't need luck.

You remember that?

The first day we met?

How could I forget?

The money was delivered
as usual.

We have no control
over the actions

of a terrorist you hire.

Your judgment
is severely lacking

if that's the way you talk
about the business we conduct.

We have a business
to protect, too.

Our arrangement
is very clear.

You move money for me,
you get rich, and you stay safe.

I swear to you,
your money was delivered.

No one knows who stopped
the bombing.

And Puma is still alive?

You have confirmation?
We heard he escaped a raid,

but Eduardo was taken.
Who else knows?

Nothing can be traced back.

The banker is already dead.
We've become too exposed.

Too many people know
too many things.

I'm afraid our arrangement
is over.

We tell no one,
and now you threaten us?

I was about to offer you
a severance package.

The freedom to start your lives
over in the Caymans

with all the money
I paid you so far.

In exchange,
all I ask is your loyal silence

and any proof you may have

of our business dealings.
A simple trade.

Sound fair?

- Yes.
- Good.

Now, you go about your lives

and I'll be in touch with
the details.

Good night.

The Chens are
Henry's conduit to the ALC.

They discussed
the failed bombing,

and Henry admitted
to paying for it.

But all we've got is
a conversation in the woods

that wasn't recorded.
We can't pick up the Chens now,

any more than
we can pick Henry up.

We can't even put pressure
on them,

because she's
a Chinese diplomat.

He wants them to disappear.

If they're lucky, he'll actually
let them escape to the Caymans.

If they're not, we won't have
this chance again.

You want to try and turn her?

Wendy is smart enough
to be afraid of Henry,

and fear is a wedge.

And if you can't convince her,
and she goes back to Henry

and tells him about her new
blonde neighbor from the CIA?

We can't keep
playing defense anymore.

We have an opportunity.

Either we take it
or we lose it.

- It's your call, Auggie.
- All right.

We use our assets
to watch them at work

in case Henry approaches
them there.

You continue your surveillance

at the apartment,
but nothing more.

Henry is gonna have them,

and whatever proof
they have against him,

if we don't act now.

Keep following them,
just don't approach.

If we move too soon,
we'll scare him off.

Okay.

just because of the way
you feel.

My feelings haven't changed,
just my job.

I hear it's particularly brutal
near the equator.

How was your trip?

My trip was successful.

Really?
Because I thought we agreed

you'd take care of Teo Braga,
and you didn't.

I caught Teo Braga.

I had him at a CIA black site.

Go on.

- There was a security breach.
- And he escaped?

No.

I let him go.

A curious way
to take care of him.

You wanted me to stop
a terrorist attack, and I did.

Because I let him go,
he led me right to it.

If I had killed him,
I would have failed.

You restore my faith in gray
every time we meet.

Why did you say this wouldn't
end well for Auggie?

There it is.

That's the reason you let me
court you in the first place.

You're afraid that if I'm right
about Arthur being corrupt,

you might not know the man you
sleep next too as well as you thought.

There's a six month gap

in Auggie Anderson's
CIA service record,

right around the time

he opened that account
for Arthur in Colombia.

Just keep yourself covered.

The sun can be very dangerous
if you're not protected.

That wasn't the story
we agreed on.

If Henry is gonna play games,
I'm gonna play back.

But you're used to rules.
His game doesn't have any.

He'll use anything against you.
Or you.

Where were you
for six months in 2006?

What?

Henry said there's a gap
in your transcript?

Is this why
you brought me here?

To play into the wedge
that Henry has been trying

to create between us
since he gave you that file?

We can't talk about this
inside the building

because Henry still has
people there.

If it's not true,
why didn't you just deny it?

You've been on edge ever since
I went back to find Teo.

I know there is something
you're not telling me.

Henry is getting into
your head.

Well, I need to know,
what is the six month gap,

and what does it have to do
with Teo?

- Annie.
- I'm trying to protect you,

but you're not helping me do it.

I've got it under control.

You said, the minute
we start thinking that,

he's beaten us.
Oh, come on.

Henry is not the one lying
to me right now.

We might keep secrets
for a living,

but we can't keep them
from each other.

I was just named
head of one of

the most secretive departments
in the world.

And you didn't even tell me
about it.

I don't want to do this

if we are gonna turn out
like Joan and Arthur.

I want our lives outside
the building

to be more important
than our lives inside it.

You've got to make a choice,
Auggie.

I am willing to go there.

Are you?

I'm home.

he asked for,

but what if he's lying
about making a deal?

and that he funded
the ALC bombing.

you give that bag to me?

Please, leave me alone!
She's trying to steal my bag.

No hits.

Must have gone dark.
I'll keep digging.

Where's Anderson?

- We don't know.
- I don't know.

Then why did I find out about

against two Chinese nationals
after the fact?

You're gonna
have to ask Auggie.

He's head of the DPD now.

The doorman
at the Capitol Towers

against you.

Claims that you're harassing

Care to explain?

I plan on filing my report

as soon as the mission is over,

Well, in the absence of
your new boss and Mrs. Campbell,

I am the senior officer
in this scenario.

I'll also be reporting that
Mr. Anderson has no control over

regarding our relations
with China and its embassy.

Mr. Anderson is right here,

and I don't appreciate you
bringing the hammer down

on me or my people
to compensate for the fact

that Joan Campbell

for the evening,

we need to get back to work.

- Where were you?
- At a department head meeting,

but I should be asking you
that question.

What the hell happened, Annie?

She got spooked and ran.

- After I told you not to.
- It was my only chance.

They're gonna bargain with Henry

- That's a separate issue.
- Maybe it's easier for you

to turn things on and off
when we leave here,

What do we do?

Do you have it on you,
the proof against Henry?

We mailed it ahead to Miami,
in case he was lying

about letting us go.
He was.

I can get you
to a safe house,

and we'll have someone else
pick it up,

but right now, we have to
get off the platform.

Oh, this way.

Go!

The Chens are
under our protection.

We've sent someone to intercept
their package in Miami.

Wendy's spreadsheets
are her insurance policy.

They can tie Henry directly
to the bombing,

and I can go over them with her
in the morning.

We've got him, Joan.

Well, you know, I think
I'm going to worry

about Henry Wilcox
until he is in the ground,

but thank you.

Annie, there's a reason why
I wanted to see you privately.

Auggie authorized
the safe house

and future Witness Protection
for the Chens.

He knows you did
the right thing.

It just may not be so easy
for him to tell you that now.

Auggie being your boss
is going to present you

with a whole new set
of challenges.

I know we don't really have

this kind of relationship,
but I'd--

I just really wanted you
to know that I've been there.

That means a lot.
Thank you.

Was it worth it?

Everything you and Arthur
went through to be together?

I mean, would you do it again?

Love is a powerful thing.

Is there room for secrets?

Only if there is room
for forgiveness, I suppose.

I know what you did
for the Chens.

I believe in you, Annie.
I hope you know that.

I didn't want things
to change.

I wanted us to stay the same,

but I don't think
that can happen.

No, you were right.

Nothing matters more than us.

I have some things
I have to tell you.

No more secrets?

No more secrets.

I knew Teo much better
than I let on.

In 2006, Arthur handpicked me
to train him,

at a private site
in the Czech Republic

we called River Run.

That's the six month gap
in your record.

Yeah, it won't be
in any of the CIA databases.

It was completely off book.

Because Teo's mission
wasn't for the CIA.

It was personal, to kill
the man who killed his mother.

That's not the only secret,
is it?

Tell me, Auggie.
What did Teo do to you?

It wasn't me he did it to.

Who else was there?

I wasn't his only trainer.
I had a partner.

Her name was Helen Hansen.

You were both
in place there together?

As students.

As married students.

A cover marriage.

In the beginning, yeah.

We were just two operatives,
getting married for the mission,

but...then the lines blurred.

- You fell in love.
- It took us by surprise.

Two agents
in the field together.

No secrets.

Just like you want us to be.

You already had that...

with someone else.

- Yeah.
- Then what happened?

Then Teo Braga happened.

He supplied us with intel--
bad intel--

that got Helen killed
right before my eyes.

So, now you see why I cannot

completely put my faith
in Teo Braga.

- Or me?
- No.

No, I am doing that
with you right now.

God, I wish I knew what
your face looked like right now.

You will never lose me
by telling me the truth.

Then let's keep talking...

Because I never want
to lose you.

I think that's a good idea.

Mm.

Capital Grand.
The gentleman's doghouse.

At least they make
a nice omelet.

How is Joan?
Succeeding.

Brava, giovanna.

Fresh squeezed?

Oh, I'm not breaking bread
with you, Henry.

Now, you see?

That's exactly what this
is all about.

If you had shown me
any respect

at any point
in our relationship,

perhaps I would have
considered forgiveness.

You belong in prison.

My only child is dead,

and I didn't get so much as
a sympathy card from you.

I guarantee you, there is
no greater pain on earth

than the loss of a child.

I can't imagine.

You can't?

Imagine my surprise
when I discovered

that you, too, had a son.

I take it that Joanie was
even more surprised than I was.

Oh, leave my family
out of this.

At least you still have one
to worry about.

Don't blame me
for your mistakes, Henry.

I blame you for Jai's death,

and you're going to pay,
a son for a son.

You've already destroyed
my career and my marriage.

Isn't that enough?

That was just the overture.

The opera is now about to begin.

Oh, I almost forgot.

I hear there's a new child
on the way.

I hope it's a boy.

You son of a bitch.

Goodbye, Arthur.
Have a nice day.

Gonna be a tough one
at Langley.

Umbra 10-79.

The safe house
is being cleaned.

A mail carrier at the Miami-Dade
airport was attacked,

the contents of his truck,
stolen.

The Chens' package
wasn't recovered.

Joan has been briefed
on everything.

She is working from home.

What did Henry do?

I think you should
come back home now, Arthur.

You were right.

The minute we thought
we had it under control--

We did have it
under control.

I still can't understand how
that safe house was compromised.

But it was.

I'm drilling down
on Wendy Chen's contact list.

At least we have that.

They were in
each other's arms.

- I know.
- I don't want you to be afraid

of losing me.

There is no way
we can stop Henry if you are.

I am not out on a limb
for anyone but you.

Auggie, Annie,
you remember Eric Braithwaite.

- What can I do for you?
- I am very sorry to inform

you that you have
been relieved of your duties

as interim head of the DPD.
Why?

Anderson,
you went against my advice,

and you continued
with an operation

that led to the violent deaths
of two Chinese citizens

under your protection
on American soil.

I think you've spent one day

longer in this job than you
ever should have.

Your replacement
is on his way up here.

Someone who has proven himself

to have the integrity
it's gonna take

to make some overdue changes
around here.

I'm sure you'll agree, Joan.

You've made your point, Eric.
You can leave now.

Henry did this.

It doesn't matter.
Auggie's already taken the hit.

From now on, we trust no one
but ourselves.

No one.
Who's my replacement?

Auggie...

It's Calder.
