"My name is Angel.
"I'm 18, and my 3-month-old son and I
"live with my mom just outside of Dallas, Texas.
"Just after I gave birth, I was lonely
"and went on PlentyOfFish
"to see if I could find someone to talk to.
I got a message from this guy named Remy."

- "He's my age, lives nearby, and he thought I was cute.
"He was the first guy I talked to since I had my son,
"and it was a relief that someone was interested in me.

- "So we made plans to go to the movies
"along with my best friend Mari.
"But when I went to the theater, he wasn't there.
"I messaged him and he told me he was at home.
"He sent his address.
So Mari and I went over, but we couldn't find him."

"I told Remy I was there.
And he then started saying he could see us..."

- How old is your son? - He's three months now.

'cause I don't have time for all of this,
so I need to know what's real and what isn't.
- So tell us a little bit about Remy.
- He's 18, he works at Amazon,
and we connect on, like, a deep level.
Like, when it comes to having serious conversation,
like, about kids or the future,
he definitely seems to have his head on straight.
- Would you consider yourself in a relationship with Remy?
- I do. He told me, "I love you.
You really seem like this really nice girl."
He just-- he makes me really happy.
- Do you talk to him on the phone or just text?
- We talk on the phone and we text.
- Okay. And how often do you guys talk?

Like, we'll be on the phone from the time
I'd be home from school to the time he has to go to work.

And I'm like, "No.
I see a lot of people walking around,
but I don't think that it's you."
He was like, "Well, are you wearing
"a highlight yellow jacket
in a Nissan with a black bumper?"
And I'm looking around like,
"Yeah, but where are you?"
So I'm like, "Which one?" And he never replied.

I was gonna go over there a second time,
but my friend was like, "No, he's wasting your time.
Don't go over there."

She sounds like a good friend.
She sounds like a keeper. She sounds smart.
- Yeah, she is.
She's like a little investigator.
- And what explanation does he have
for not meeting you?
- He says that he has a girlfriend
that he's not with,
but they stay together because she pays for the rent.

I want to just go back to the beginning for a second.
So you went on PlentyOfFish and you see this message from Remy.
Tell us how that went.
- I was scrolling through my messages,
and I actually saw his picture on there.
I was like, "Oh, he's a nice-looking guy."
So I gave him my phone number.
- Right after that? - Right.
So when we text, he'd ask me if I was with the dad still.
I was like, "No, we're just co-parenting,"
and he was like, "Well, I don't mind
being there for you and the baby."
That's what caught me because
it takes a lot for someone else to just step up
and be, like, another dad
to someone else's kid. - Right.
- And so me and my best friend Mari
went to the movies one night.
And I'm like, "Hey, do you want to go?"
And he was like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah."
So it's maybe ten minutes until the movie starts
and I'm like, "Where are you?
Me and her are sitting in the parking lot,"
and he's like, "I'm with my girlfriend,
"but I don't want to be with her,
"and she wants to come over there and confront you
and I'm trying to keep her over here."
- Whoa, red flag. - Wait.
Telling me-- both: Whoa!
- Yeah. - Saying what?
- "You need to come over here" and "we gonna fight,"
and I'm like, "Mari, you're not gonna believe this."
She's like, "Well, I guess we're rolling over there."

as to, like, fight this girl over him.
- It's not more that I wanted to fight,
it's more that I want to see is he being for real.
Like, is this story actually true.

but the apartment number that she gave me didn't exist.

- I'm assuming that Remy's like a nickname.

So the real question is, is he really into her?

Never comes down, but he can see her
because he's described what she's wearing.
So we know he's there.
But this guy seems to be lying about something,
most likely his pictures.

All right, here is the email from Angel.

and the D Jackson Facebook page--
which is potentially the real guy's page--
and then, "The Snapchat account Remy gave me
"and this is the one I've spoken to the whole time.
"The one I found on the D Jackson page,
though, is Devn [bleep].
So the address Remy says he lives at is in Dallas.
He told me he lived in apartment 2056.
But there aren't any apartment--"
Okay, so he just made up a number.
All right, let's just start with
the "D Jackson" Facebook page.
He's got 4,200 followers.
- That seems legit. - He said he's 19.
He's got his Snapchat, right, devn [bleep].
I mean, there's a lot of photos on his page.
- Okay, true. - And a lot of people tagged.
- Do you think that Remy is D?
- I think there's a 0% chance that it's actually this kid.
I think D is very clearly a kid
that somebody here in Texas found and was like,
"Oh, this kid's perfect because he's cute,
"posts tons of content,
and, like, is easy to pretend to be."
I don't understand why Remy would give her
the real guy's Facebook page and not just either say
I don't have Facebook or make a fake one."
- What if we just send a snap to D?
- So yeah, let's just hit him up.

Okay. So now we've got a chat going.
Let's run the phone number, see what we get.

- So then it's like a text app. - Right.
Maybe the person she's talking-- [phone clicks]
Oh, we got a Snapchat notification.
[phone chiming] - [gasps]

- Basically, we're doing an episode of the show,
and I think someone's pretending to be you.
We found your page because somebody in Texas
who calls themselves Remy
has been talking to this girl in Dallas.

- Just wanted to confirm that it's not you.

Oh, I think-- - Yeah, I think we got enough.
Well, as what we suspected that he's real
and that the person here is not them.
- Yeah, I can't believe he gave her
the real guy's Facebook page.
That's a first. This is so lazy.
So we know who Angel isn't talking to.
Now the question is who is she talking to.
- Okay. I mean, all we have left to do
is, like, search the address and see if anything comes up.
- Okay. Since the apartment number
they had for Remy doesn't exist,
let's just search the address for the apartment complex.
- Right. - Wow, here it is.
So let's just see. Here are the units.

Could be Remy.
So at this point, we've got a lot of evidence
suggesting that he does stay or probably lives in this area.
- Just go there.
- Just drive other there and, like, check it out?
- Yeah. Yeah.

- Right, so then I think we should go.

All right, time to do some old-fashioned investigation.
- My favorite. - Right.

- So this is the place that she came to that he gave,
the, like, bogus apartment number.

So just before we get into all this like,

and then it just kind of veered off to the left.

And all I saw was this part of his head.
- Okay, so what did it look like?
- It didn't match the Facebook person at all.
Then he tried to turn us against each other.
- Oh. - What?
- He told her
that me and him were talking... - [gasps]
and was like-- both: Whoa.
- He was like we done slept together.
This, this, and that. - Oh!
- What? Why wouldn't you tell us that?
- She was so conflicted. She started crying.
I was like, "Angel, it's not true.
"I'm telling you. It's not true.
I wouldn't do that to you.
I wouldn't do something that hurtful to you."
- What's your relationship like with him?
- I'm just the friend of her.
I don't really care for him.
- I mean, you made him sound like a real sweetheart...
- [sighs] - When you told us the story.
While I think, at the beginning, he seemed great--
- At first, he was talking all sweet, and then it just--
- You sort of saw a darker side.
- Yeah. - To be lying already
and taking advantage of someone and, you know,
wasting their time, and then turning around
and trying to do something to hurt them even more...

- All right, now that we have the whole story,
we found some stuff we want to show you.
So we searched his phone number.
Didn't come back with any registered name,
but it is obviously a Texas area code,
and it says that it's a landline.
Now usually when we see that,
it's because the number is like a text app number.
- Mm.
- But you FaceTimed on that number.
- He FaceTimed me from the email.
- So it was like an Apple ID or something?
- Mm-hmm. - Do you remember what that was?
- Mm...no.
- Mari, do you think it could still be in,
like, your phone log? - Let me see.
[gasps] Here it is. - Oh.

- This was at 4:00 in the morning?

- What were you doing talking to him so late?
- Because he called.
- Was he flirting with you? - Probably, but I don't care.

and he's supposed to be talking to her--

- I mean, not necessarily normal behavior.

- I was trying to get him to send pictures of the apartment
where he said he was, and he wouldn't.
- Then that brings us to the next thing we did was
we did a search for that apartment.
- Uh-huh.
- And the only thing that jumped at us
was someone named R Jackson
'cause his name might be Remy Jackson.
So we just thought, like, let's drive over there.
- Mm-hmm. - And so we did.
And we did find the unit,
and I knocked on the door, and some guy answered it.
All I could think to say was like,
"Do you know someone named Remy?"
And he looked at me and I--
in what I believe to be an honest response,
was just like, "No."
So that means either that guy is a great liar
and that could have been Remy
or his name's not Remy
or that's not what he goes by.

- The most important thing we did was contact him
on that Snapchat from his Facebook page,
sent him a message, just like, "Hey, hit me up,"
and he did,
and we talked to "D," the guy in the pictures.
And I asked him if he has talked to
or knows a girl named Angel, and he said, "No."
- [quietly] Oh.
Oh, my God. - Which basically confirms
that the guy you've been talking to...
both: Is not him.
[somber music]
- [sighs forcefully]
- [clicks tongue, sighs] Good God.
- What's weird to me is why would he then send you to
the real page of the kid
if it's not him. - Exactly.
- Is that just lazy
or was he hoping you'd figure it out.
- 'Cause he went to the trouble
to make his own Snapchat account...

a fake Facebook page. - Right.

- That's never happened on the show where the Catfish
has told the person they're talking to
the real profile
of the person they're pretending to be...

That's crazy.
The real question now though is if he lied about the pictures,
what else is he lying about.

- Because, basically, all we know about Remy
is that we don't know anything.
