Captain Planet and the Planeteers (1990–1996): Season 4, Episode 14 - Bug Off - full transcript

Captain Planet:
Our world is in peril.

Gaia, the spirit of Earth,

can no longer stand
the terrible destruction

plaguing our planet.

She sends five magic rings
to five special young people --

Kwame from Africa,
with the power of Earth.

[ Sirens wailing ]

From North America -- Wheeler,
with the power of fire.

**

From Eastern Europe --
Linka, with the power of wind.

From Asia -- Gi,
with the power of water.

**

And from South America --
Ma-Ti, with the power of heart.

When the five powers combine,

they summon
Earth's greatest champion --

Captain Planet!

The power is yours!

**

[ Weevils buzzing ]

**

[ Airplane flies overhead ]

[ Spray hissing ]

[ Spray hissing ]

**

Skumm: [ Laughing ]

**

My wonderfully
wicked weevils.

Patience. Patience, my pet.

Thanks to the overuse
of pesticides

and my growth hormones,

you little darlings will soon be
my bug juggernaut.

[ Laughs ]

Yes, Sherman,
our army of super-bugs

will terrorize
and overrun the Earth.

[ Laughs ]

Linka: [ Sneezing ]

Gesundheit!
Gi: Bless you!

Kwame:
[ Speaks foreign language ]

[ Sneezes ]

I never thought
I'd say this, Linka,

but what you got,
I don't want.

You should take time off
to rest.

Kwame's right.

[ Congested ] Nyet.

[ Blows nose ]

[ Sniffles ]

I will just take
some antibiotics

the doctor gave me
last time I was sick.

Ugh!

You take antibiotics
for a cold?

Gaia: Planeteer alert,

everyone to the Crystal Chamber
at once!

Be careful, Linka. If you take
an antibiotic too often,

it may not work when you really
need to fight a bug.

And antibiotics
can kill good bugs

in your body
as well as bad ones.

The shaman taught me
to use natural things

to fight colds,
like herbs.

Da, da.
I will give them a try.

What is wrong, Gaia?

There's trouble brewing
down on the farm.

[ Weevils buzzing ]

Unusually large
and mutated boll weevils.

[ Slurping ]

Ugh, sounds creepy!

You need to investigate,
Planeteers!

We're on the case, Gaia!

Ah-ah-ah-ah-choo!

Sounds like you should
stay home, Linka.

I'll second that.

[ Sniffles ]

But what if Captain Planet
is needed?

My herbal remedy
will help Linka feel better.

Okay.

But, all of you,
be careful.

**

Man:
I don't understand it.

I'm blasting those bugs

with a double dose
of pesticide.

And nothing happens.

It's as if they like it.

Ha, like it?

They live for it!

[ Slurping ]

Isn't that right, Sherman?

Now, drink up, my pet.
I have big plans for you.

[ Laughs ]

[ Bicycle bell dings,
children laughing ]

[ Birds chirping ]

[ Dog barking ]

[ Weevils buzzing ]

[ All scream ]

Whoa!

Here, Linka, try this.

[ Sniffs ] Ugh!

It is delicious,
Linka --

peppermint, ginger root,
and licorice.

[ Swallows ] Ew!

This won't make me
feel better.

Man: Flash, this is WBOL Blossom
with an emergency bulletin.

Swarms of giant beetles
are attacking the town.

Remain in your homes
or take cover immediately.

Whoa, they sound
really bugged.

Better put the pedal
to the metal.

[ Indistinct shouting,
gavel bangs ]

[ Weevils buzzing ]

I'm telling you,
we need more pesticide

to battle these bugs!

[ Indistinct shouting ]

All right, now.
Let's have quiet.

Professional Posey,
what's your take on this?

Overuse makes pesticides
less effective.

I think there's a natural way
to deal with the problem.

This is no time
to test radical theories.

That's right.
Stronger poison's the answer!

[ Indistinct shouting ]

Ugh!

What are those strange clouds
over town?

They are not clouds.
They're swarms of boll weevils.

Gross! This is like
a bad horror flick!

I can't see!

[ Alarm blaring ]
Kwame:
They are jamming the controls!

We're going down!
Assume crash position!

[ Weevils buzzing ]

[ Spray hissing ]

Aah! Oh, no!

[ All screaming ]

[ Buzzing continues ]

I have seen swarms like this
before in Africa.

[ Horn honks ]

Many people use
powerful pesticides

that are illegal elsewhere.

At first, they work.

But once the bugs
become resistant,

they eat everything in sight.

[ Coughing ]

Come on, Planeteers.
Time to rock and roll.

Earth!

**

Way to go, Kwame!

[ Gasps ] Bozhe moi!
Look!

[ Weevils buzzing ]

Water!

**

[ Slurping ]

Ma-Ti:
The weevils are growing!

Oh, no! The pond
must've been contaminated

with pesticide runoff!

No need to panic, guys.

I'll just crank up the heat
on these suckers.

Fire!

[ Weevils buzzing ]

Okay, now panic!

[ Helicopter blades whirring ]

Well, well, if it isn't
the Planet Parasites.

They're just in time
for my super-bugs

to exterminate them.

[ Laughs ]

Gi: Looks like we're bug meat,
Planeteers.

Then let our powers
combine.

Earth!

Fire!
Wind!

Water!
Heart!

By your powers combined,
I am Captain Planet!

Whoa, bug city!

Time to make you guys
gone with the wind!

[ Inhales deeply ]

[ Blows ]

[ All cheer ]

See no weevil,
hear no weevil!

[ All cheer ]

[ Engine shuts off ]

Hurry, rub this on.
It'll keep the bugs off.

Thanks. Uh, who are you?

Professional Posey.

It's good to meet you,
Professor. I'm Captain Planet.

And these
are the Planeteers.

I'd love to stay and chat,

but I've got some beetles
to bust!

Look!
They are coming back!

[ Weevils buzzing ]

Come on.
We'll be safe at my lab.

I hope you're right.
[ Engine turns over ]

[ Tires squeal ]

Wheeler: Wow. This must be
the only place in town

that isn't overrun
by those bogus beetles.

You're right.
And I'll show you why.

This is a neem tree.

The oil from its seeds
acts as a natural insecticide.

In here, I've combined oils
of citronella, eucalyptus,

rosemary, and other herbs.

They're a natural
insect repellent.

I used them to make
the pest strips for my van.

[ Sneezes ]

[ Speaks
foreign language ]

Speaking of herbs,

it is time
for your medicine, Linka.

[ Sniffles ] Oh, I was hoping
you had forgotten.

Over here, I have plants
that attract insects.

Attract 'em?

Yes. And then,
they eat them.

Yuck! Bug burgers?

You got it.

These carnivorous plants make up
for a lack of nitrogen

by getting it
from insects,

nature's way of keeping things
in balance.

How come they're not using
all this stuff on the farms?

Trying to convince people to use
natural pesticides isn't easy.

Not everyone's aware
of the negative effects

of chemical pesticides,

especially when
they are overused.

Well, they're certainly
learning the hard way.

[ Children talking ]

Uh, uh, uh,
no dropouts, please.

[ Grunts ]

[ Metal creaks ]

[ Children cheer ]

This ain't no roach coach.

Now, to put these pests aside.

Got to put you evil weevils
on ice!

[ Inhales sharply, blows ]

[ projection slide clicks ]

Hmm, that's odd.

This bug's system
is full of pesticide

and some strange
growth hormone.

No wonder
they're so big.

Yes.

But a concoction like that
doesn't happen on its own.

Skumm: [ Hums ]

* Do-do-do-do,
Zee-da-do *

* Do-do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do *

* Do-do-do-do-do

Ahh! Building a better animal.

My first wave of super-bugs

should take the bloom
off Blossom in no time.

By then, Sherman
will be ready to march.

[ Laughs ]

Nothing like a bug-cicle
on a hot day.

Uh-oh, more fly guys.

And I don't think
they're smiling.

[ Spits, coughs ]

Ugh, pesticides!

Aah!

[ Coughs ]

[ Straining ] Poison!
[ Coughs ]

Choking me!
[ Coughs ]

[ Weevils buzzing ]

Captain Planet: [ Groans ]

[ Coughs ]

[ Straining ]
Got to concentrate.

And the chaos continues.

Authorities are
unable to explain

a freakish wave
of weevil attacks.

Captain Planet:
Planeteers, need help.

Captain Planet
is in trouble.

Yes, but where is he?

Looks like a sewer
or something.

We must find him -- fast!

Skumm: [ Laughs ]

A little pesticide drip
for a big eco-drip.

Looks like you bought the farm
this time, Planet.

Well, I've got places to go
and people to terrorize.

See you later!

[ Laughs ]

[ Groans ]

Some days,
you're the spider.

Some days,
you're the fly.

Oh, it's a fly day for me.

Gi: No sign of Captain Planet
down there.

There is one other storm drain
on the other side of town.

Bummer, bug alert!

They're growing faster
than I calculated.

I think I can slow them down.
But I'll need some help.

Then we will keep searching
for Captain Planet.

Gi and I will
go help Professor Posey.

Come on.
Let's get back to the lab.

We have work to do.

**

Here is a sewer entrance!

Linka: Bozhe moi!

Ugh, this smells worse
than bad borscht!

Smells like chemicals.

[ Groaning ]

[ Coughs ]

Oh, this place
is hideous!

There's Captain Planet!

Hang on, Cap!

Hurry!
He is fading fast!

Fresh water should help him.

[ Groans ]

[ Coughs ] Pbht!

[ Bird calls ]

He is coming to!

Are you all right,
Captain Planet?

[ Grunts ]

[ Normal voice ] Yep,
I'm getting back in the blue

thanks to you,
Planeteers.

I thought I was worm food.

What was that place?

A giant rat's nest!

Verminous Skumm?

Bingo!

Now, you guys
better get back to town

while I work the bugs
out of Skumm's plans!

Man: Blossom is still
under attack.

Bugs are everywhere.

Police -- helpless.

Evacuate.

Are we almost ready?
Affirmative.

It's time to unleash
our secret weapon.

Behold, the eggs
of the Perilitus wasp.

Wasp eggs?
That's our secret weapon?

Yes. These tiny
parasitic wasps

inject their eggs into
the bodies of the weevils

and destroy them
from the inside out.

Cool, just like in "Alien"!

* I've been workin'
in the Skumm lab *

* All the live-long...

Oops!
How clumsy of me?

Ha!
I hope Skumm won't be too upset.

What are you doing?

Packing in your
pesticide plan.

The game's over for you
and your insidious insects!

Oh, on the contrary.

The games
have just begun!

Meet Sherman.

He's all tanked up
and ready to blow!

[ Laughs ]

[ Sherman growls ]

Well, imagine that,

a pest bigger than you,
Skumm.

Hey, jumbo, you should do
something about that runny nose!

[ Growling continues ]

Maybe a little fresh air
will clean out those sinuses!

Aah!

**

Grr! Boy, this beetle's
really bugging me!

[ Spray hissing ]

**

[ Grunting ]

Whoa, buggy, whoa!

[ Grunts ]

Whoa!

Ugh!

Got to clean out the cobwebs!

That's it!

Yo, Weevil Knievel,
betcha can't catch me!

Uh, what are we
waiting for, Professor?

Them!

[ Weevils buzzing ]

Get ready
to release the wasps.

Now!

[ Wasps buzzing ]

**

All right!

Man, those little guys
were awesome!

Yeah. But won't we be
overrun by wasps now?

Don't worry, Gi.
The wasps' natural predators

will keep them in check.
[ Geo-Cruiser approaches ]

Look!
There's the Geo-Cruiser.

**

Captain Planet:
Up here, poison puss!

Did you miss me?

Hey, bug breath,

how about a little more
follow the leader?

Can you match this
kickin' corkscrew?

[ Weevil thuds ]

Oh, what a tangled web
we weave.

I thought you'd
caught on to that.

Stick around while
I show you the ropes.

And don't try to weevil
out of this one, neither.

Now it's time
to hit the rodent!

Help!

Help me!

I'd say the Professor
and the Planeteers
do pretty good work!

Please, Captain Planet,
help me!

I'll do anything!
[ Cries ]

I don't know, Skumm.

Your little friends
are starting to grow on me.

Or should I say you?

[ Applause ]

Man:
So I'd like to present the key
to our town

to Captain Planet
and the Planeteers!

[ Cheers and applause ]

Now I wish I'd worn pants
with bigger pockets!

[ Laughter ]

And I'd like to present a check
to Professor Posey

so he can continue
his research.

[ Cheers and applause ]

Thank you.

From now on, we'll use
pesticides cautiously

and, when possible,
replace them

with environmentally-safe
methods

to keep our crops
pest-free!

[ Cheers and applause ]

What about him?

Professor Posey:
Without Skumm's brew,
that big galoot

should shrink back down
to size...eventually.

But for now, it's as snug
as a bug in a rug.

[ Laughter ]

[ Normal voice ]
And speaking of bugs...

[ Inhales, exhales ]

...mine is gone!

Your treatment
really worked, Ma-Ti.

Thank you.

You're welcome, Linka.

[ Sneezes ]

[ Sneezes ]

[ Sneezes ]

Guess we still got
a [sneezes] bug problem.

[ Sneezing ]

All: Bless you!

[ Laughter ]

[ Applause ]

Planeteers: Go, Planet!

Gaia: Nature has its own way
of dealing with pests.

So we have to be careful about
our use of chemical pesticides

because they can
upset the ecosystem

and kill the good bugs
along with the bad.

Even spiders fulfill
an important purpose in nature.

So if you find one in the house,
don't kill it.

You can take it outside
like this

or ask your parents to help.

And be careful about
how you use antibiotics

and other medicine
because, just like pesticides,

you can kill the good germs
along with the bad.

Planeteers: Go, Planet!

Many household items can hurt
both pets and wildlife.

A lot of things we do can
hurt birds and other animals.

Did you know
that car radiator fluid

can be fatal to animals
if they lick it or drink it?

Unfortunately, animals like
the taste of radiator fluid.

So never let it drain
in the driveway or gutter.

And if any spills,
clean it up.

If we are all careful of how
we get rid of household waste,

we can make it a lot safer
for animals and the environment.

All: The power is yours!

Earth!

Fire!

Wind!

Water!
Heart!

All: Go, Planet!

By your powers combined,
I am Captain Planet!

* Captain Planet

* He's our hero

* Gonna take pollution
down to zero *

* He's our powers magnified

* And he's fighting
on the planet's side *

* Captain Planet

* He's our hero

* Gonna take pollution
down to zero *

* Gonna help him put asunder

* Bad guys who like
to loot and plunder *

You'll pay for this,
Captain Planet!

* We're the Planeteers,
you can be one, too *

* 'Cause saving our planet
is the thing to do *

* Looting and polluting
is not the way *

* Hear what Captain Planet
has to say *
