Bonanza (1959–1973): Season 2, Episode 9 - Breed of Violence - full transcript

Dolly Kincaid is so fed up with her extremely dominant, controlling, sheriff father, that she runs away with her boyfriend. She later finds out he is the leader of some murderous bank robbers and when they kidnap Hoss and Joe, she still sticks with him.

You have a good time,
didn't you, Dolly?

Didn't I tell you
we can sure have a good time?

-I got to get back home.
-Wait a minute!

Don't be so worried!

I know you like it.

Vince, I gotta go now.
I stay longer than I should.

Why such a hurry?
You know how I feel about you.

You know my pa, he would
cut the skin of my back.

I ain't scare of your father.

If he lays his hands on you,
just tell me.

I'll take care of you.

Stop!

Stop, Vin!

Stop!

Vince! Come on, leave her.

Come on, honey.

Vin, stop it!

Vince you're drunk,
forget it.

Leave me alone!
Leave me alone!

Esse Cartwright
ter? o que merece!

Go on, let him go,
if that's what he wants.

Forget it, Dagen.

Vince, I don't want
any trouble.

I said leave him
alone, didn't we?

Anytime you wanna finish this,
just let me know.

Wait, Dolly!

It's no time to start fights.
The sheriff don't want affairs.

Don't take big chances playing
with the sheriff's daughter.

I'll take the chances.
I like that way.

It makes sense, Vince...

that Kincaid queira
proteger a filha.

So I heard.

This guy don't bother me.

It's not of my business.
I just try to be a friend.

You're always running around
with the wrong kind of people.

And who should I
run around with?

The ones the mighty Cartwrights
pick for me?

I didn't mean that
and you know it.

You gonna get in trouble
with a man like Vince Dagen.

If I get in trouble,
I handle it.

And what's wrong
with Vince Dagen?

What's wrong with Vince Dagen?

He's a drunk and a thief!

Adam thrown him from Ponderosa
for stealing.

Well, this is not
the Ponderosa.

I don't plan on holding one
little mistake against him.

Right, Dolly, forget it.

I don't wanna fight with you.

I don't wanna fight with you
either, Joe.

Maybe Vince isn't everything
I like him to be...

but he's good to me.

I get lonesome.

Daddy never let me
out of this house.

Your father being sheriff
he seem a lot of the bad side of life.

Maybe hejust wants to
protect you from wrong people.

I guess he won't consider you
the wrong kind of people.

But you don't consider me
the right kind of people.

I didn't say that.

You didn't have to say that.

Even when we were
kids in the school...

all you Cartwrights consider yourself
too good for anybody else.

-Dolly, that's not true.
-What are you doing here, Cartwright?

And you, get in the house!

I just walk Dolly home,
I see her at the store.

She had no business at the store!
I told her to stay home!

Wait a minute, there's nothing
so excited about.

Don't you tell me
how to run my family.

Now you get out of here
and stay away from my daughter.

Look, Mr. Kincaid, I've known
Dolly for a long time.

I think is up to her to tell me
whether or not she like to see me.

She don't makes the decisions
around here, I do!

Look, I told you
to get in the house!

-Butjust listen...
-Look, try to understand this.

I ordered her to stay home.

If she tries to see you
or anybody else...

I'll whip her back.

Now you get out of here
and stay away from my daughter.

Do as he say, Joe.

I see you real soon, Dolly.

Pa, I did all my work.

I even sewed your shirt
the way you ask me to.

Well, that's nice.

It must took you
all day, didn't?

-Just about.
-Sure.

I'm glad to see you got more
cheer than your mom had.

She's going out to dance as
soon as I turn my back.

Please, father,
we have to talk about that.

What else do you want me
to talk about?

A man does the best he knows...

woman goes running off
with another man.

-I'm tired.
-Don't you walk away from me!

I told you
not to leave the house.

You can't keep me locked up
I'm not one of your prisoners.

All I did was walk down to
the store with Vince Dagen.

Yes, and you come back
with the young Cartwright.

You'rejust like your mother.
One man ain't enough for you.

Ma didn't run off.
You drove her off.

Just like you gonna
drive me off.

I'm not trying to
drive you out, honey.

I'm trying to protect you.

Your ma believed in anything
any man said to her.

You'rejust like she was.

You're as pretty
as she is, darling.

I'm not going to have you
running off with the first tramp.

I wasn't running off,
I went down to the store.

To meet a man.

Yes, to meet a man!

I meet a dozen men!

Because I'm no good.
Because I'm just like my mom.

That's what
you want me to say?

Pa, me and Adam have
to check that rift today?

It sounds as if
you don't want to.

Ross wants to follow up a wolf sign
he saw over the canyon.

Still you're pretty sure
that are wolves, do you?

Sure, pa!

The cracks are a way too big.

It's possible.

In the old times Indians insist
that there was wolves up there.

Boy, I sure would like to
get a look at one of them.

How they are driving a pack
down this low? Better look.

I understand they can pull on
a steer when they're hungry.

And the miserable boots
attract a trap.

I just don't like
putting up a poison bait.

It ain't no good, pa.

We can ride there
and take a look around.

We can check
that old man Trigger...

he always brag he used
to live with Indians.

Let's check the fences first
then we'll decide.

The breakfast is ready?

Well, we'rejust thinking
about supper.

You're sure you had
enough sleep?

No, not quite, but
it's gonna have to do.

You maybe go for a riding
fence with us?

How can you be so practical
this early in the morning?

Maybe because he's been up
for a little while.

You're out a little late,
won't you?

I ride all the way
from Plasterville.

I had something to eat
and ride to Kincaid.

Was that on purpose
or accident?

A little bit of both.

And I really fell sorry
for Dolly Kincaid.

She never had trouble finding
somebody to chase after her.

No, I think it's
the other way around.

I think she never had any trouble
finding somebody to chase.

What you are worried about?
You ain't had no trouble in running.

Why so worried about Dolly?

She's running around
with Vince Dagen.

You mean that fellow
we fired last year?

I run into him
in Calaghan store.

Dagen and I had a few words.

I took Dolly home...

her father run me off
with a shotgun.

You don't mean literally.

He didn't pull the trigger,
but he wasn't kidding.

What he got against you?

You and Dolly have known
each other for years.

We ain't whistling up
a tree for me.

I wasn't take Dolly out
but I think I will now.

Don't get involved
on a family affair.

Kincaid's woman is kind
a roar right now.

Take a little time
to settle down.

It's not right to keep his daughter
locked up like a prisoner.

I don't say it is right.

You not gonna help Dolly putting
a flag on Kincaid's nose.

I never thought about it
that way.

Why don't you ride tomorrow
with Adam and Ross...

they are going to check
that wolf sign...

that Ross thinks he saw
up on the canyon.

What you're trying to do?
Getting my mind off Dolly Kincaid?

That's what you
wanna me to do.

Vince!

Who were you expecting?
Little Joe Cartwright?

You were drinking last night.
Then you started to fighting.

I was afraid
my father would see me.

There wasn't anything else
I could do.

Of course there was nothing else.
It was my fault.

I came by to apologize.

Apologize?

I'm trying to.

I couldn't sleep last night
thinking.

I don't know how to
say this, but...

when you
walk down on me yesterday...

I just knew I won't let you
to do it to me again.

I've been standing out there.
Waiting for your pa to leave.

I know the way he treats you.

You don't know how it is.
It's like been locked up in a cage.

-I can't stand it anymore.
-I know.

And I ain't gonna stand by
and let it happen to you.

I'm gonna take you
out of here.

I don't think I'm taking
too much for granted.

Because I think you feel about me
the same as I do about you.

I know
how I feel about you.

It'sjust that I was I never
really sure of you.

You're now.

You could sneak away
in the morning, early...

meet me upon the trail,
I tell you where.

That's what you want, isn't?

You know that's what I want
more than anything else.

But people don'tjust do this,
they don'tjust pack up and leave.

They do if they're in love.

What about my dad?

I heard he talking with some man,
he's gonna be busy in the morning.

Don't need to worry about him.

It work fine, honey.

I'm gonna be taking
care of you from now on.

Vince, you don't know
how I dreamed about this.

To get away, to be with you.

Look at this.

It's the same track
I found down below.

No coyote
make tracks so big.

What a pack,
wouldn't you say?

What you make of it?

Over there,
looks like some big ones.

It's a plain trail.
Let's follow it.

He cut one of the legs in two.

How the wolves drag it
so far?

They didn't drag it.

The wolf got its
teeth in his leg.

The wolf got dragged.

We must scare them all.

He didn't even touch
the meat.

We didn't do ourselves
any favors, either.

They just drag down the next
stray they come across.

What you think
we're gonna do?

I gonna back to pa to tell
what we're running through.

Why don't you go
till Triger's cabana?

-See if you an hire him.
-Good idea.

So Ross and I go
to Triger's place.

Save a couple of wolves for me.
See you around the end of the week.

I was worried that
you wouldn't come.

I told I'd be waiting.

I waited so long
for you to come along.

Anybody did see you
get away?

I was so lucky!

Some outlaws robbed
the bank last night.

Pa had headed out
after them.

Sure were lucky.

Do you notice which way
they were heading?

To the Felt Crossing.
Why?

You wouldn't run into your pa,
would you?

Come on,
let's get out of here.

Further we get a moment,
the better I like it.

I wonder what's
keeping Dagen.

You know what's keeping him.
That girl!

He should had kept
that girl out of this.

I think we'd came
really smooth.

See more money in the volume
than we figured on.

You know that
ain't good enough.

Vince wants the money
and the girl.

I'm plenty sick of what
he wants all the time.

If that girl
gets in my way...

Calm down.
I think it's funny.

We rob the bank...

and he runs off with
the sheriff's daughter.

-I think it's funny.
-I don't think it's funny.

If he doesn't show soon,
I move on!

You go without the money?

Vince knows what he's doing.

He's got the money
in the saddle bags.

Well now.

You boys had a good sleep?

We ain't been down this saddle
for one single minute.

Por que a cara feia,
Kincaid?

We do the best we can.

Your best isn't good enough.

You spent less time
keeping up with me...

and more time looking for
signs...

you may find something.

Go back there
and take a good look this time.

I'm heading
to the high country.

You go alone?

It's faster.
You only hold me up.

If you see anything
fire a signal.

If you know how
to use a gun.

Come on, boys,
do as he said.

-Hold!
-What is it?

The patrol! Get back.
And be quiet.

You said they're going
to Feld Crossing.

They will when I saw them.
Is my father with them?

We must split up.

Or be back.

How many men did you saw?

I don't know.
Is my father...

Forget about your father.

Don't let me take me back!

You said you'd want
me to take care of me!

That's right.

Vince, what you gonna do?

You want me to take
care of you, don't you?

That's what I'm gonna do.

They're down below.
They didn't see me.

Let's get out of here.

I told you we're
in trouble.

When Dagen mix up with
a woman, we're in trouble.

She ain't an ordinary woman
she's the sheriff daughter.

One thing is to rob a bank.

But hanging around
is another.

We should cut
the money into shares.

Each man would be
in it's way by now.

What chance one man
have alone...

against all patrol?

We stick together
we get a chance.

We split out later,
when we're out of danger.

As like Dagen feed.

It's Dagen and the girl.
I told you not to worry.

-You got late, Dagen.
-What they're doing here?

Are the boys.

You met Clegg, Robby
and Poke, remember?

They're old friends.

We might ride along
for a while, all right?

Sure. Just surprised
me for a minute.

What took you so long?

Don't you heard, big bank
robbery last night?

We run into a posse
in the trail.

They didn't see you.

We dodge them.

Dolly is right good.

Dolly ain't her papa
catch up to we.

I bet the robberies ain't
catch up neither.

Isn't funny.
I bank cashier was killed.

No, it isn't funny.

I'm sorry, mam.

That ain't no concern
of ours.

Maintain in keeping your papa
in not catching up to us.

Come on, boys!

There's no way out of here.

Every canyon is cut off.

We'll stay out of the canyon.

Take to high.

Trigger?

Anybody home?
Ross Cartwright.

Come along.

I hear you.
Back here in the barn.

Hi, Trigger.

Ain't see you fellows
in ages.

What bring you
around these parts?

We run in what we think
are wolves signs.

Wolf sign?

They drag one of our steers.

We thought you may
wanna help.

You told me you're a
professional wolfer.

I was, for money.

Cost you US$ 10
and I keep the pelts.

You got a deal.

Is it all right if we bank
here for a couple of days?

Suit yourself
but you gotta pay.

Speaking on wolves,
did you run into the sheriff?

-No, why should we?
-You ain't heard?

There was a big bank robbery
last night.

A bank robbery?

The sheriff himself
told me.

A bank robbery?
Odd, isn't it?

Yeah, odd but...

but we can't do
anything about it.

While we're sitting here
and talking...

a wolf pack
more one steer.

Let's go.

Don't rush me.

I get got
my horse and saddle...

Someone is coming. Must be
the rest of Kincaid posse.

I'll figure out what is coming.

Dagen, what you're doing?

Dolly?

-What's the trouble?
-Keep her out of this.

Clegg, Poke,
keep him covered.

I get his gun.

Can't you take are
of this yourself?

All right you two
drop your guns.

I said drop them.

Look here!
A big happy family!

You didn't know about this?

You're in trouble, Dagen.

Put your gun away,
I'll give it to you.

-I wanna know...
-Get in the house!

Take her into the house.

Dagen, put your gun away.

Keep pushing we
got a gun over your head.

I take care of you later.

What you do here?

I'm a trapper.

Cartwright boys ask me
to catch some wolves.

You get a lot of groats
in that cabana?

Some.

You're not figuring
in hold up here!

-You got a better idea?
-What's the matter?

The posse is getting
too close?

Anybody else around here?

Just the Cartwright boys.
Folks don't come up here often.

That'sjust fine.

All right,
come on in the house.

You killed him.

He'd got away,
he'd brought your papa!

Get those Cartwright
in the house.

And get him out of sight.

-How long we stay here?
-Till I say we move.

I don't think you know
what you're doing.

The posse...

suppose they split up
and come behind us.

It's poker.

I play with I got not with
the next card is gonna be.

Get out there and put
those horses in the barn...

and get some fire in here.

To warm this place up.

Trying to run from that posse.

Suppose I'm?
You know Kincaid.

Want you catch up Dolly
running off with me?

I wouldn't him to catch
me up either...

if I had robbed
a bank.

What he means?

Nothing.

And those saddle bags?
You don't stay far away.

You did rob the bank!

-So we robbed the bank.
-Why?

For money. What would
you think you gonna live?

I did that for you.

I gonna buy nice things
you never had.

But you had to kill?

That clerk run for his gun.

You push a little too far.

Did I?

I've got the money and
the girl. What you've got?

You are dead if I say to Poke
to pull that trigger.

That's true, Mr. Cartwright.

I would have killed you,
Dagen.

The time I got you
stealing from us.

Don't you worry, Ross.

He's gonna get it.

The posse and the sheriff
will be back.

Why do you think he brought
the girl along?

Shut up about the girl!

Good question, Vince.

Why did you bring the girl?

It's pretty easy to see.

If the sheriff comes
he treats to hurt her.

Isn't that right, Vince?

I said shut up
about the girl!

You should not have
done that.

Not at all.

I wanna nice clothes
for you, honey.

Everything you ever wanted.

Don't worry about anything.

Everything will be all right.

You believe that,
don't you?

-You're here for a wolf?
-That's right.

The posse is gonna get
the wolves too.

But the two-leg kind.

You two listen to me.

If that posse shows...

you tell them that you
hired us as wolfers.

They not going
to believe that.

They know you.

They gonna believe,
all right.

When we leave,
you gonna ride with us...

till we cleared this part
of the country.

If we have problems, we'll
have two Cartwright less.

Put the horses away?

Where's the girl?

What you care?

Be careful, Dagen,
he wants to steal your girl.

-Take it easy, Joe.
-Don't worry.

They need us.
They need us real bad.

-Don't push your lucky.
-Leave him alone.

How do you know the posse
isn't out there?

I ain't take that chance.

Better bury that Trigger.

The posse can be
pretty nosy.

Dig a grave.
Upon your feet.

You're like a wolf.

You don't know
what you're doing.

You change your mind
without a reason.

We've got things to do.

We gonna buried Trigger.

Honey, is the least
we an do.

We find shovels in the barn.
Clegg, watch him.

Ross gonna help us.
Up on your feet.

Well then, Poke.

Dolly...

you help Clegg
keep an eye on him.

Stop looking at me
like that.

Don't like, fellow.

Try anything and you
won't see your brother.

We gonna get you,
one way or another.

Come on, dig.

-Let's get started.
-What's the matter with you?

Somebody gets to watch him.

You would thank me.
Who had thought in the barn?

Get your mind out of her.
She is no party for you.

How you gonna leave
this territory?

They don't know
who we are.

We do.

That's not a problem.

All is money.

I'm gonna drink
every day of the week.

I'm gonna eat
and drink until I bust.

Sounds real great.

How many men you kill?

Let's see.
I don't remember.

One..

two...

They'll kill you
for this.

What you're doing with them?

Give me the gun.

You just want to save
your neck and Ross'.

Yeah, I wanna save
our necks.

And save your neck too.

I don't believe you.

Nobody ever did anything
decent for me.

Except Vince.

Except Vince?

you think Vince robbed
that bank for you?

He'll kick you out the day
he's tired of you.

-Don't say that.
-It's true.

You'll turn me in,
right along with Vince.

This is my chance
to leave.

And I'm taking it.

Nobody gives you anything.

It isn't so
and you know it.

You don't think I'll use it,
don't you?

One more step.

What's the use?

From keep me to going back
to my father...

I'll do anything.

Joe tried to get away,
I stopped him.

That's for try.

Now, I'm gonna fix you
real good

I never take you
for having guts.

Why don't you try
without a pistol?

When I'm good ready
I will.

Seat down!

You did fine, darling.

Ride back an forth
through these canyons...

what good does it do?

The sheriff hadn't more
sleep than we have.

Kincaid is like a wolf.

He ain't give up till
he gets what he comes after.

Neither we.

John and I will ride
over Trigger's place.

Kincaid might not
been there yet.

The rest of you
take a look there.

Wake up.

There're riders up there.

Robby.

Get on your feet.
The posse is out there.

You're so smart now
what we do?

I said I figured
when it comes.

I got it figured.

Why don't you tell us
what we gonna do?

-I gonna stay in here.
-And the rest of us?

The sheriff don't know
the rest of you.

Neither the posse.
You go up there.

I ain't talk
to no law man.

You don't need to.

Ross Cartwright
is gonna do that for you.

He hired you, boys,
for hunting wolves.

-I'll try to remember.
-You better.

I'll be in here with this gun
on your brother's head.

Is shooter get started
he gets one first.

Don't get nervous
with that gun.

Hurry up.

Ross, what you're doing
up here?

There are some wolves
after our cattle.

Joe and I decided
to talk with Trigger about it.

You couldn't find
a better man for thejob.

Is Mr. Trigger around?

No, he rode this morning
for setting some traps.

I haven't seen you boys
around.

We hired them
to help find the wolves.

Sheriff Kincaid
ain't come by yet?

I haven't seen him.

Mr. Trigger said
he saw him yesterday.

The sheriff told him
about the bank robbery.

You've been up all night,
you know Kincaid.

I know him well enough
to know...

that these bank robberies
won't get away.

I promise you that.

If you see anything,
you let us know.

Good hunting.

Same to you.

We had a goal.

We'd be right proud of Ross,
he did real fine.

The deputy said the posse
will be right close.

How we get out of here?

I don't know about
the rest of you...

but Clegg, Poke, Robby,
can ride any time.

-What do you mean?
-You went out.

You're wolfers, working
for us. They believed.

You an ride any time
you want to.

You make sense.

I'm no bank robbery,
I'm a wolfer.

I can ride out of here.

Nobody walk,
I run this shit band.

You're running right
into the ground.

You boys can wait around
for a while.

The sheriff might
show up.

He's gonna be a little
harder to convincing.

Vince, I'm scared.
I want to get out of here.

What you have to be
scared about?

You've got all that money.

And a man like Vince
to take care of you.

Shut up, Joe!

Let's get out of here.
We're wolfers.

I won't go
without my share.

-I want my cut!
-Listen to me.

You gonna get your cut.

You know what you gonna get.

The posse hanging you
on a tree.

Do you remember
that tree down the road?

It's big enough to hang
two men, don't you think?

Yes.

There're room for Degan.

Stop!
Stop talking that way!

You think it's gonna end
any other way?

Cut this, Cartwright!

Poke, get rid of them.

Go ahead, Poke.

The posse will be here
the minute you pull the trigger.

That's right.

The sheriff got ears
like a wolf.

That's what I hear.

Dolly, you know him better
than we do.

Stop!
Vince, make them stop!

Make them stop!

Never mind

I'll do it myself.

You won't kill anybody.

You've got a long way
to go.

You can't make
without us.

You never get guts.
Not in a day in your life.

What Robby said
makes pretty good sense.

I'm going too.
Try to stop me.

You don't go anywhere.

It's nice to meet your friends
on social level.

You Cartwright!
You know everything.

I don't are
what you think.

-I'm gonna stay with Vince.
-You listen to me.

Drop that gun, Dagen.

They're four,
where's the other one?

Look out!

I want this
for a long time.

All right, that's enough!
We get to get out of here.

The shoot might bring
that posse back.

Dolly, you've got to go.

What about pa?

Why are you worried
about your papa?

We can'tjust leave him here.

But you won't want him.

Get out of here.

See Poke.

You see that the Cartwright
don't follow us.

Come on, Dolly.

-Are you coming or not?
-Sure she's going with you.

You'rejust what
she always want.

Come on!

Your father was right.

You'rejust no good, Dolly.

That's right, Joe.
I'm no good...

by your standards.
That's the way I like it.

So long, Cartwright.

Poke!

I ain't do nothing.

Dad.

You'll be all right,
you have a close call.

The money,
they give it back?

They didn't have a chance
to spent a single penny.

You have nothing to worry
neither Dagen and the boys.

They're all locked up
in yourjail house.

What's left of them.

Would you like to know
about Dolly?

She's been here on your side
since they brought you in.

Running off with a man
like Dagen...

Why she had to do that?

May because she thought
you didn't care.

You think it was only with the
money I was a worried about?

When I found out
that Dolly was gone...

You don't how is like
to try raise a girl.

No. But I do know how is
to try raise three sons.

Sometimes you need to show them
a little affection.

Have you tried that
with Dolly?

Your papa is asking for you.

Be patient with him.

He needs you very much.

As for you, young man...

next time you visit
Dolly Kincaid...

ask her father
permission first.

An idea I give to you.

Don't wait too long.

The rate that the young
girl is going up...

I might ask permission
myself.

Wait a minute, brother.

We have trouble enough
with one lady's man.

How come I mixed up
with this family?

I'll never know.
