Blood & Treasure (2019–…): Season 2, Episode 10 - The Secret History of the Mongols - full transcript

DANNY:
My name is Danny McNamara.

I used to work for the FBI.

And I'm Lexi Vaziri.

I used to be a thief.

Excuse me, a master thief.

We're back on the hunt
after the Vatican

was attacked
by a mysterious group

led by someone who calls himself
the Great Khan.

He's looking for
an ancient Mongolian artifact

called the Spirit Banner. DANNY: Also known
as the Soul of Genghis Khan.

And they're leaving
a path of destruction

So, it looks like it's up to us
to stop them

by finding the Banner.

Before they do.

Previously on
Blood & Treasure...

The Banner has Khan's DNA on it.

Maybe the Great Khan wants it

to weaponize Genghis' DNA.

After the battle, we found this.

Are you familiar with the
secret history of the Mongols?

The earliest history
of Genghis' life.

This scroll is
believed to contain

directions to the tomb
of Genghis Khan.

You think

the Mongolians brought
the Banner back to Genghis

and buried it with him? Yes.

No, I can't leave her! You go in there, you die.

The Khan is still alive,

and shedoes not like
to be challenged.

Give me your loyalty,
and the world will be ours.

LEXI:
He never saw it coming.

Here, I'll get
the drinks. Oh, yeah.

What? What's so funny?

Nothing. Nothing.

It's... great

seeing you two
getting along so well.

Just sharing stories,
you know.

Nothing to be paranoid about.

Mm.

To finding the scroll.

And next,

the Banner. I'll drink to that.

Can I get one of those?

Violet?

The explosion
in... Kazakhstan.

I saw you die. Really?

After you left
me behind.

Again?
I'd still be there

if it weren't for
the town scavengers. I'm sorry.

Blame me.

She didn't want to leave you.
I forced her to go.

I'm sure she fought very hard.

Vi, please. Anyways,

I still expect that
you'll clear my record

after all this? Of course,

anything you want.

Forgive me.

Less talk, more booze.

Right.

How did you find us?

Shaw told me that you guys were
crashing at his place.

where is he, anyways? Hospital.

It's nothing serious.

Just got banged
up a little bit.

Who's the badge?

Excuse me?

Oh, your shoes
are way too sensible.

They might as well have sirens
and flashing lights on them.

And your watch
and your posture.

You just smell of cop. DANNY: Violet,

this is Kate.

She's a friend
helping us find the Banner.

Nice to meet you, Violet.

Any word on
the Banner?

Oh, yes. Yeah.

We, uh, found a Scroll
that's supposedly a lost chapter

from The Secret History
of the Mongols.

Should lead us
to Genghis' Tomb.

We think
the Banner is in the tomb.

So, what are
you waiting for?

We need to translate
the scroll first.

I just heard back
from Helena.

She's a linguistics professor

that I consulted with
back that the Bureau.

Okay, good.
She's excited to take a look

at the scroll. Great.

Well, now that
I've come this far

and I almost got blown up
trying to find the thing,

I'm gonna see
it through.

I don't think we'll
need any extra help.

Will we, Danny?

Um, actually, I'm
part of the original

squad, Kate.

Lexi and I go way back,

even before human
Wikipedia over here. Yup.

She's right. Vi here...

she's a Jill-of-all-trades.

Got us out
of more tough situations

than I can count, so,

we could use her help
anywhere we're gonna go.

Hmm. DANNY: Okay, then.

Next stop: Prague.

Think we can borrow
your jet again?

I'll make a call. DANNY: I'll let Helena know

we're on our way.

She's got a jet?

Oh, her family does. Long story.

Huh.

I'm gonna go pack.

I'll meet you at the bar.

Tell Hahn you're with us.

Hahn is that ten-year-old
bartender? Hey,

the kid makes a mean
lychee martini.

Oh, God. Yeah.

Um, I'm gonna go pack. All right, go.

Go, go.

Jet will be ready
in an hour.

What do you know about Violet?

She and Lexi
used to work together.

Oh, so... she's a thief, too.

She was going
after a bounty

the Khan put out
on the Banner, but

I promised
to help clear her record

if she helped us
find it instead.

And you trust her to give up
money for going straight?

Trust...

is a strong word.

But I do believe
she would

do anything for Lexi.

Don't be so quick

to ignore your instincts.
The Khan's horde

has been with you
every step of the way.

Okay.

I can try to find
a way to lose her.

Actually, let her come along.

If my hunch is right,
she might be

the best link to the Khan
that we've had yet.

And I want
to keep an eye on her.

There's a quick way to find out
just who she really is.

The CIA has an app?

It's no Candy Crush, but

it gets the job done.

Huh.

Let's keep this between us.

You tell Lexi,

she might tip our hand.

Yeah, Lexi would kill for her.

We're gonna need
rock-solid proof

if we're gonna change that.

And just to be safe,

keep my Agency background
to yourself, too.

Mmm. Yummy.

Is it bluefin?

You don't mind if
I have some, do you?

All gone.

It's like being in prep
school with the yakuza.

I take it
you found Danny and Lexi?

I'm following them to Prague

where an expert
will translate the scroll

that'll lead us to the Banner.

Pack up.

Yes, my Khan.

Listen, Violet,

I had absolutely no inkling
you were the Great Khan.

And I have to say, you've
played everyone brilliantly,

including me.

Maybe you stole a little
from my playbook,

but you improved upon it.

I thought I was a maniac.

Isn't that what you said
about the Great Khan?

Well, let's face it, Violet.
You are a bit of a maniac.

But so am I.

You'll recall I only said that

when I was trying
to save your life.

That should count
for something.

Actually, it does.

You were disloyal
to the Great Khan,

but you were loyal to me.

Which is one of the reasons
why I'm not going to kill you.

Well, that's, uh...

heartening.

We work well
together.

We both hate the privileged
and the powerful.

I'll admit, it's rare to find
someone who challenges me.

Which you do on every occasion.

Listen, I hope
I'm not being out of line.

You seem a little more tense now
than you were before.

Kate Reece is coming with us.

She's playing coy
that she's CIA,

but she keeps
asking questions,

and I think she suspects me. Sounds like

the perfect opportunity
to take me to Prague with you.

In fact, I am
the one person in the world

that you can rely on.

Well, I am interested
in learning

about your various... skills.

But if you make me regret it,

I'll put your severed
head on a pike.

So what's this errand
Violet had to run?

Well, she's got
a friend here in Prague.

Figured she wanted
to skip the boring stuff.

Where did Kate disappear to?

Um, work stuff,

I guess.

So, uh, what's it say, Helena?

The scroll's made of vellum.

Calfskin.

Or, in this case,

human.

Human skin? Hmm.

Weren't the other scrolls
made of silk?

The DNA analysis confirms it.

The oils in the skin
make a protective barrier,

so the carbon dating takes

a little longer. Huh.

What is it? Arcanum Gladio

wanted the Banner
during the Cold War

because it had
Genghis' DNA on it.

Right, to create a virus

that targeted Chinese
and Russian Communists.

What if the Khan wants to take
A.G.'s research and flip it?

Use Genghis' DNA to
protect his people

from a virus engineered to kill
everyone else on the planet?

Fits his M.O.

He's only
went after Western targets.

It's only
a preliminary scan, but

I'm confident it's authentic.

Likely over 800 years old.

How fast can you translate it?

I used the pictures

you sent me
to get started.

I also pulled
some relevant reference books.

"To find Genghis Khan
who sleeps under eternal sky,

start at the roots
of his empire's Silver Tree."

The Silver Tree
was a fountain

symbolizing the center

of the four quadrants
of Genghis' empire.

But it moved around, so,

"Silver Tree" must be a metaphor
for the literal center point

of Genghis' empire.

Yeah. There.

I think that's the starting
point the scroll refers to.

"The death of
Genghis Khan rang out

"across the bridge of the river

where Genghis met
his blood brother Jamukha."

Jamukha helped him
conquer his whole empire,

and then became
his mortal enemy.

That's strange the scroll
would be invoking him.

Okay, do we know where they met?
We can start there.

Earlier scrolls
suggest the...

Followed her to her meetup.

She lost me
for a few minutes.

When I picked her back up,
she was alone again.

I'd say she's definitely
up to something. Okay.

My friend flaked. Well, perfect timing.

Danny, the scroll ends
with the words

"Genghis Khan
was buried in secret,

"so not even his most
reverent followers

would seek his tomb."

The Mongols

don't want the tomb found.

We need to stay a step ahead
of the Khan.

And if our theory
on the DNA virus is right,

we need to find the
Banner before he does,

no matter what
the scroll says,

or he's gonna kill
billions of people.

The scroll said
Genghis Khan's death

rang across the bridge
of the river.

Bridge? What bridge?

Well, back then, armies
didn't fight in the winter.

The Mongols used

frozen rivers
like highways...

giving them the element
of surprise.

So the frozen river
isthe bridge.

Smart.

So where do we cross?

The Mongol army
moved on horseback.

We need to find a spot
shallow enough for the river

to freeze over completely.

Come on.

What's her story?

She's Jay Reece's
daughter.

The billionaire?

Oh, my God. I know.

You know, ten years ago,
the only way

you'd be hanging out
with a billionaire's daughter

is if you were casing her.

Ten years ago, I was a very
different person. You know that.

Don't you wish
it was like the old days?

You know, just you and
me against the world?

It's not so bad
having a bigger crew.

Well, when it's a rich girl
trying to steal your man it is.

I don't have
to trust her.

I trust him.

All right. I'm just
looking out for my girl.

What is
that thing?

It's an Ovoo.

It's an ancient shrine.

Could be the marker

for Genghis Khan's burial site.

Why is no one guarding it?

I don't know, but
the scroll led us here, right?

Something's wrong.

The scroll used Jamukha
as a signpost

even though
he betrayed Genghis Khan.

Then warned us not
to seek the tomb.

The Mongols went

to a lot of effort to bury
Genghis Khan in secret.

Why would they build a
shrine to mark his grave?

Unless it's not a grave marker.

Violet.

It's a trap!

Violet, stop!

Violet!

Violet, stop!

You okay?

That was a close call.

Thanks, Lulu. Yeah, don't mention it.

You okay?

Yeah.

I'm better than that guy.

Good news is

if we can't find the tomb,
the Great Khan can't, either.

Well, word is
the Khan has hundreds

of people looking for it.

It's not gonna
stay hidden forever.

Well, good luck to him.

Because even the Mongolians
don't know where the tomb is.

The Banner's out there.

Gen said when the Mongolian
tribesmen took the Banner back

they told him "the Soul
shall return to the Soul."

Now, we assumed
that meant Genghis, but...

someone else
had a piece of his soul.

Jamukha.
His blood brother.

To the Mongols,

when they shared their blood,

they exchanged
a part of their souls.

Where is Jamukha buried?

No one knows for sure.

But in the '80s,
a 13th century tomb

was excavated
in Ulaanbaatar.

The remains matched those
thought to be of Jamukha.

Ulaanbaatar's
a seven-hour drive.

Yeah, it's gonna
get dark soon, so,

why don't we set up
camp for the night,

head out first thing
in the morning?

Hey, what are you up to?

Just trying to find
any clues on Jamukha

that will shed light
on where his tomb might be.

Jamukha.

Why do you think
he turned on Genghis?

Jealousy, ambition.

Jamukha ultimately went
to war with him to be Khan.

Hmm. Sounds like he got
what was coming to him.

What? I'm all
about loyalty.

Okay. I'll be sure
to never go to war against you.

You I'm not worried about.

But Kate...

better keep her
hands to herself.

Why would you say that?

Violet thinks Kate's
still in love with you.

Don't give me that
"What? Please." look.

I'm not blind. I see the
way she looks at you.

Violet's been back
in our life one day,

and she's already
stirring the pot.

It's not about her.

I don't know about that.

Meaning?

What if being loyal to Violet
meant being against me?

Or vice versa?

That's nonsense. I...

I can be loyal to both of you.

Any issue one of you has
with the other, we'll just,

you know, figure it out.

It's just about communication.

Which I'm very good at,
if I do say so myself.

What's the story?

I've just received a message
from the Khan.

She wants you
to do some research.

What, now?

Let's have a look, then.

Oh.

I'm going to need
to use your computer.

Do you mind?

Don't go looking

anywhere you're
not supposed to.

I'll be watching. How comforting.

I don't suppose there's any
more of that coffee, is there?

Her message didn't say
anything about coffee.

Right.

You look like
you just saw a ghost.

No, I'm good.

Bad news?

Good news, actually.

I need to make a call.

Give the phone to Simon.

Hello?

We have a problem.

Yeah? What is it?

I just killed Kate.

That escalated quickly.

Danny and Lexi are asleep.

Send in the team.

Kill Danny, but make sure
Lexi's taken alive.

No. No, no.
Wait a minute. Wait.

We still haven't found
Jamukha's tomb.

I'd say they're worth

a lot more alive than dead.

They're gonna wake up
and find a dead body,

and I'm the only one here.

Look, it's no wonder
you're so upset.

I mean, you almost died.

What?

The Great Khan sent one
of his foot soldiers.

He barged into the tent
and murdered Kate.

I mean, it's a miracle
you're still alive,

but thank God you are,

'cause you did what you needed
to do, and lucky you did.

Otherwise, Danny and Lexi
would be dead, too.

They actually
owe their lives to you.

What if they don't believe me?

What if hedoesn't believe me?

Well, you better
make it look convincing.

But if you kill Danny
in front of Lexi,

you've lost her forever,

and you've made
a very powerful enemy.

Send me someone I don't need.

And Simon, if this fails...

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Head on a pike. I know.

I just got a message
from the Khan.

She has a special mission.

She told me
to send her best man.

Of course.

Lexi! Come! Lexi!

What? What's happening? Something's up.

Hey. What's... No!

No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Oh, God, no.

Oh, my God.

Ah, Kate.

What happened?

He came out of nowhere.

The Khan sent him to kill us.

He, uh... he was alone?

If there's one, there
are more. They must be

tracking us.

I, um...

I need... I just...
I need a minute.

Of course.

Let's, uh...

let's get you cleaned up.

Come on.

I'm sorry, Kate.

She deleted it.

Hey. Let's split up.

See if the locals know anything
about Jamukha's shrine.

All right.

Hello. Um, Jamukha?

Do you know Jamukha?

Does that mean anything?

Uh, look-looks delicious.

Uh, um, English?

Um...

I mean... if you insist.

Oh. That's very good.

That is very good.

Danny McNamara.

I'm Weber, the local rep
from Langley. How can I help?

Did you find Kate?

We did.

They tell me she was one
of the best of our new batch,

that she meant something
to you. I am sorry.

I think the woman

my partner and I are with
is working with the Khan.

Is she the Middle Eastern girl
or the Asian one?

I've had eyes on you guys
since you got to town.

Asian.

Lexi's with me.
And as far as she's concerned,

you and I
don't know each other.

Okay.

So, you want your girlfriend's
friend rendered

to a black site
right in front of her.

That is cold, man,
but I can dig it.

Well, I don't see
any another way.

There's an abandoned mining
operation just outside of town.

There's no one around,
easy to control.

You get her there,

and my team will get her out,
nice and clean.

I need her alive.

Don't worry.
"Alive" is our specialty.

Oh, I just
texted you coordinates.

Good luck.

Fancy meeting you here.

You said you have information.

Yeah, well, if Danny's
right about Jamukha,

there's a very big chance
the Banner's actually here,

down the road, in fact,

at The Museum Of
Mongolian Artifacts.

You think
the Banner is on display?

No, not on display. Hidden
underneath the museum.

You see, it's relatively new.

It was only built in 1984,
exactly the same time

Jamukha's holy shrine
was supposedly discovered.

I don't know about you, but
I don't believe in coincidences.

So I think the tribesmen
built the museum

over the dig site
to protect the tomb.

That sounds promising.

I hoped you might think so.

And I'll see you there.

Ugh.
So, nothing on my end.

I did try this cheese.
Hey.

Hey. Find anything out?

Yeah, I have a lead.
We need to get out of town.

I thought you said Jamukha's
shrine was in Ulaanbaatar.

I thought so, too,

but an archaeologist I know
told me

about a mining operation
just outside of town.

Sounds like it could be the site
of Jamukha's tomb.

Really? 'Cause I just
talked to a local

that said he thinks it's hidden
underneath the museum.

My source was pretty confident.

I don't think we
should waste any time.

Waste time? The museum's
right around the corner.

How is that wasting time?

Okay, okay. Hey, why don't we
go to the museum first?

If there's no Banner,
we head out of town.

Yeah. Sound good?

Yeah. Yeah?

I don't think this is the place.

Why? If this is sacred ground,

there should be guards here.
It's empty.

I just don't want us
walking into another trap.

Still think it's a trap?

Help me
hide him.

Was that
absolutely necessary?

Well, he could have
called a hundred others.

He'll wake up
in a few hours.

There's something
behind these doors

that's worth protecting.

Let's find out
what it is.

Hey, why don't you stay
out here, keep lookout?

Hey, why don't
youdo that?

If it's here, it should
be underneath the museum.

Oh. Danny, my flashlight. Huh, yeah.

Mine, too.

This...

this is incredible.

Oh, my.

Look at this.

It's Jamukha.

Nice belt.

Looks like
solid gold. Mm-hmm.

Genghis gave it to Jamukha
when they were boys

as a token of
their brotherhood.

The Soul of Genghis Khan.

What are you doing?

I'm setting this right.

This is for you
and me, not him.

You put the CIA on me, Danny?

What... What's going on?

Violet, put the
bloody gun down.

Oh. You didn't tell her?

He's been working with Kate

behind your back
this whole time.

That's why
I killed her.

What's she
talking about?

And why am I not surprised
to see you here?

Right.

How does the line go, Danny?

"Again, we see

"there is nothing
that you can possess

which I cannot take away."

You're working for the Khan?

I don't work for anybody.

She is the Khan.

What?

I knew.
After Kate.

I knew you
were involved

with the Khan, but... You...

you knew?

And you didn't tell me.

I guess we both
have our secrets.

Let's discuss this

more upstairs, shall we?

Double-check
the restraints on her.

And search them for
weapons. She usually

carries a knife in her boot.

Ah.

I taught you this little trick.

Nice to know at least
something stuck.

He's got two phones.

I want them both.
I don't want your boyfriend

texting the CIA again.

That's my phone key.

You lifted it off me?

I had to get into Kate's phone.

When did you...

When I hugged you?

When I comforted you?

There is no mining operation
outside of town, is there?

Just a couple
of guys waiting

to throw me into a van
and take me to a black site.

You murdered Kate.

Yeah, well, she figured it out.

How long were you and
Kate planning all this

behind my back?

I don't know,
Lexi. All these

secrets and lies...
seems like a dealbreaker to me.

Don't you dare.

You've been lying to me
this whole time.

You know, the old Lexi would
have been right by my side,

but you've been domesticated.

I needed to know
where you stood.

Simon.

Why didn't you tell me?

I couldn't risk
you talking to Violet.

After everything
we've been through... Lexi.

You seriously thought I'd take
the side of a mass murderer?

Violet has everything
she needs to pull off her plan.

We can't let her leave here
with the Banner.

Yeah, and how do you
expect to stop her?

I'm going to kill her.

Mm. You're what?

Last year,

when we were going
after Farouk,

was it not you trying
to convince me

that even if
we killed him,

his followers would still
carry out his plan?

How is this
any different?

Look,

if I can get her alone,

I can get her to
give up her plan.

Lexi, she will kill you. She will kill you.

You heard her.

She wants me to
go with her. No, you can't.

You can't do that. Why? Because you
don't trust me?

Because I don't trust her.

The Spirit Banner is real.

Oh, goody. Hey.

Perfect.

Did you lift that
off me, too?

No.
I started carrying my own.

Stop!

Lex, get out
of the way.

No.

Lexi... get out of the way.

I said no.

Uh,

guys, it this
strictly necessary?

Shut up, Simon. Shut up, Simon.

What happened to you?

I'm the same person
I've always been.

You're the one
who's changed.

All because of him.
And the worst part is

he doesn't even
trust you.

But I do. Because I know you,
the real you.

If that's true, then prove it.

Take me with you
in exchange for him.

You're trying to manipulate me
to learn my plan.

But I wantyou
to know my plan.

Why?

Because when you do,
you'll understand

and you'll want to join me.

Lexi, do not
listen to her.

He's afraid 'cause
he knows I'm right.

Truth is, I always thought
we'd end up doing this together.

You and me, taking
the world by storm.

It's everything
we've always dreamed about.

Promise me you won't hurt him.

If I wanted to hurt him
he'd be dead already.

Okay, Vi. What?

Okay. You and me then.

No. Good.

Lexi. I don't want him
calling for help.

Damn it! So we're gonna take him

with us and leave him
at the airfield.

The hell you are. Danny.

I won't hurt him if he
doesn't do anything stupid.

You have my word.

All right. All right, deal.

Simon, we're leaving.

Be a doll
and collect our treasure.

With pleasure.

It's the CIA!

Back up! Back up! Back up!

Go, go, go, go, go!

Simon, go get the Banner.

Go!

Cover me! Go!

Cavalry's here.

Violet!

I'll save the Banner
if you let Danny go.

Deal.

Lexi!

I can't hold them off
much longer. We got to go!

I'm not leaving Lexi behind.

Simon, get the Banner
and I'll get Lexi.

You do realize anybody's gone
near the Banner has been shot.

Follow me
or I'll kill you myself.

Who said romance was dead?

Smoke!

Come on, Lexi.

No!
