Blindspot (2015–…): Season 2, Episode 12 - Devil Never Even Lived - full transcript

When an unusual tattoo leads back to Roman, the team must decide whether to send him into the field...to go undercover with a dangerous biker gang.

Previously on "Blindspot"...

You've got the chance to start over again.

And now you will, too.

Roman's response indicates

he's suffering from extreme
anti-social personality disorder.

For every memory that he recovers,

Roman relearns his trauma.

That's a real risk for re-triggering
his psychopathic tendencies.

- Freddy.
- Place is nice, man.

I saw the knife that killed Jones.

The knife isn't yours, it's Freddy's.

Patterson solved the leopard tattoo.

It leads to Kat Jarrett.

Part of the inner circle of a
biker gang called the Viper Kings.

Wait, who is that?

My God...

It's Roman!

I've made some corrections to the design.

Have these modifications
executed right away.

- The hell are you talking about?
- Sir.

"What the hell are you
talking about, sir."

I get it. I haven't been here.

But, you see, I'm back now.

And you need to respect
the chain of command.

Things change.

And if we can't adapt, we die.

I did my research.

What was wrong with the old design?

I like you, Parker. You're ambitious.

You're resourceful.

And, Shepherd tells me,
very good at taking orders.

I'm very confident you'll adapt.

Yes, sir.

Freddy! Freddy?

Freddy!

Who are you?

I'm Niki, Freddy's girlfriend.

Or... I don't know what we are anymore.

I haven't seen him in weeks.

Where the hell is he?

- I don't know.
- Don't cover for him.

- Whoa, whoa.
- Freddy!

Hey, seriously, I haven't seen him.

- You're Edgar Reade, right?
- Yeah.

Well, he said he was gonna crash with you.

And he said you kicked him out.

Yeah, Freddy says a lot of things.

I let him crash on my couch for a night,

but that was a while ago.

I came from work, and he was gone.

I know Freddy's using
again. If he did something...

You really don't know where he is?

You can never come back.

I'm sure he's safe.

Some friend.

Not now, Briana.

With all due respect, sir,
you've said that before.

- Yeah.
- I filled everything out,

all you have to do is sign.

Parking passes for the new analysts,

drug-test authorization,

security credentials for
the Deputies Committee,

departmental budget approvals.

Sir?

Sorry. Ahem!

Let's do this.

It's Patterson. I gotta go.

How'd it go with the girl
at the bar last night?

The girl at the bar has a name, Zapata.

Does she?

What is the girl at
the bar's name, Reade?

Leave me alone, I don't...

Just mind your business, all right?

What do we got?

Roman solved a tattoo.

Well, that's not entirely true.

- Which one?
- The leopard.

The one Sandstorm left off my body.

How'd he solve that?

"Solved" is a bit of a... okay.

He was playing with these sugar cubes,

and instinctually started
playing mancala with them.

Which is a popular board
game in South Africa.

Roman helped decode the tattoo
by using his muscle memory.

I still had to write a program to...

All right, where'd it lead us?

Well, that's where
it gets interesting.

These are ATF surveillance photos.

That's Roman. Who's that woman?

Kat Jarrett, inner circle
with the Viper Kings.

The biker gang?

Didn't realize the Kings
were so progressive.

They're not... in this
chick's inner circle,

she's seriously bad news.

And this is Tom Ferrell.
He's a border patrol agent,

currently serving four years at Otisville.

Now, a few weeks before Times Square,

Farrell was caught running
guns over the Canadian border.

So that's why Sandstorm
didn't put the tattoo on Jane.

The corruption had already been exposed.

So, all this for a dead end?

Not necessarily.

We just need to show this photo to Roman.

I'm not sure that's a good idea.

No, the tattoo didn't point
to Farrell, it points to Kat.

So if Roman can remember
why he met with her,

it could lead us to Sandstorm.

Dr. Sun warned us that
triggering Roman's memories

could also re-trigger
his anti-social behavior.

It's one photo. Bring Dr. Sun in.

Do you remember this night?

No.

This was an experience you had.

Try to visualize all the details.

The night air, the smell of exhaust,

the revving of the engines...

Close your eyes.

You've outdone yourself, Kat.

Watch out for those potholes.

That stuff will kill ya.
Do I need to count this?

Shepherd doesn't burn bridges
if she doesn't have to.

Always a pleasure, Roman.

Always.

I was buying weapons.

What kind of weapons?

Explosives maybe.

Do you remember anything else?

Yeah. I felt important.

"Important" could mean Phase Two.

If Sandstorm did business
with the Kings before,

there's a good chance that they still do.

And what if the leopard
tattoo wasn't left off my body

because Farrell got caught?

What if Sandstorm thought
it could point back to them?

If we can track these explosives,

then we can stop whatever's coming.

Patterson, see if any of the Kings
have any outstanding warrants.

Tasha, Reade, I want
you to talk to Farrell.

He won't talk... the Kings have a
code of silence. They're famous for it.

Yeah, it's like Omerta, but
without all the snitching.

We need a way in.

We already have one.

He's sitting in a cell
down in Zero Division.

I'm sorry.

You want to send Roman out in the field?

His memory's been wiped.

Yeah, but the bikers won't know that.

Look, we're one degree away from Shepherd.

We have to try.

Send me and Roman
undercover with the Kings.

We can't put Roman in the field.

- He's a terrorist.
- So was I.

Yeah, but we didn't know that.

Just like we don't know
Roman's history with the Kings.

We have no idea what he'd be walking into.

He could remember something
that leads us to Shepherd.

Or he could hurt someone.

No, he won't.

I'll be there with him the entire time.

You think you can control
him because he loves you?

The man in that cell is incapable of love.

You're wrong. I know my brother, okay?

He cares about me.

Look, I understand your desire
to have a connection with him,

but the histories between you
two have been chemically erased.

Psychologically speaking, you
don't know each other at all.

We can't just wait for Phase Two.

Sandstorm could launch their
next attack at any moment.

We have to chase down
every lead that we've got,

no matter how risky it is.

If that means using
Roman to get to Shepherd,

I'd say it's worth the
risk. Any objections?

Good. Let's see how Roman feels about this.

Are you sure that's a good idea?

This is a chance to prove
your value to the team

and get you out of this cage.

Don't you want that?

Of course I do, but...

I don't remember these people.

You remembered them this morning,

just by looking at a photo and
listening to an engine motor.

Imagine what you could remember
when you're out in the world.

I used to hurt people, right?

What if the old Roman kicks in?

I trust the new Roman.

Shepherd can't get away
with what she's done to us.

This is our chance to make her pay.

Okay.

Why is everyone staring at me?

We lost a lot of agents to
Sandstorm, and they blame you.

But I don't.

Roman... thank you for helping us.

Patterson, you can take us through it.

Yep.

Roman, this is Kat Jarrett,

and this is her biker bar
that she owns, called The Nest.

It's where the Viper
Kings have their meetings.

And this is Abel Marx.

He's the club's president,
he calls all the shots...

and you'll have to have
a sit-down with him.

Eventually.

Can't act like you're
trying to get a sit-down,

'cause it'll cause red flags.

Right now you're just
there to introduce "Remi"

and check Kat's temperature for business.

Yeah, and if Kat's into
it, she'll bring it to Abel,

- and we'll use him to draw Shepherd out.
- How?

A sting operation
masquerading as a weapons sale.

None of that is happening today.

Today is about establishing
a contact and trust.

Okay, um, so I don't
need a gun or anything?

No, you do not.

No, I'll have mine. But we won't need it.

We're just going there to talk, okay?

Let's go get you something to wear.

Come on.

What if they can tell I'm... different?

Look, you did business with these guys.

That's it.

Okay? They probably...

They probably didn't know you very well.

So just stick to your
story, and we'll be okay.

Last night's deal with
the Kings was your last.

What are you talking about?

Shepherd thinks you're
getting too close to Kat.

How does Shepherd...

You told her.

I'm about to infiltrate the
FBI, so I need you focused.

I am focused.

You're the one about to
burn a bridge we still need.

Is this about Shepherd or you?

I like her, all right?

And I have done everything you
and Shepherd have asked me to.

Then you can do this, too.

We have a problem.

What do you mean?

You have a lot of nerve coming back here.

I just wanna talk.

You disappeared out of my
life and you just wanna talk?

Yeah, I know. I can explain, I promise.

But right now, this isn't about us.

Remi and I have a business proposal.

So...

This is the infamous Remi.

You still keep your
brother on a tight leash?

If only I could.

He just does whatever he
wants, whenever he wants.

Right now, I want to see Abel.

You really think that's a good idea?

After you just vanished?

He's gonna wanna hear this.

Fine... if you're lucky,

he'll kill you before I get a chance to.

Long time, Roman.

Abel. This is my sister, Remi.

Where the hell have you been?

Shepherd shot me... the
day after our last deal.

Why the hell would she do that?

Well, you'd have to ask her.

When I found him, he was almost dead.

Life support, then rehab,

and when he woke up, he was... different.

I haven't quite been the same since.

- What do you want?
- Revenge.

Against Shepherd? No,
you're in the wrong place.

- This ain't our fight.
- There's money in it.

Look, all we need you to do is
initiate a sale with Shepherd.

She shows up, Roman and I will handle her.

And when we're done, the
Kings can keep the money

and the goods.

The only thing Shepherd wants
these days is HMX explosives.

- And we don't got 'em.
- Not for lack of trying, either.

I can get the explosives.

You've got HMX?

Right now?

No, but I know where I can get some.

Really?

You won't mind us coming along?

Suit yourself.

Look, you really wanna waste your time?

Yes.

I do.

Looks like we gotta cut
this lesson short, Prospect.

It's so hard to find people
you can trust these days.

Am I right?

What the hell were you thinking?

I was trying to save the mission.

Well, you went a little off-book.

I had a memory, I improvised.

You mean "went rogue."

- You could have gotten Jane killed.
- He didn't.

He accelerated Shepherd's takedown.

Abel's agreed to set a trap for Sandstorm.

So what happens when Shepherd sends in

one of her soldiers to the sale instead?

Taking anyone from Sandstorm alive,

that would be huge for us.
There's only one problem.

Abel is expecting Roman to produce the HMX.

"HMX" stands for "high melting explosive."

That's not something you just
walk in off the street and buy.

Unless you're military,

the only way to get HMX is to steal it.

So they'll steal it.

A friend of mine at the
D.O.D. owes me a favor.

I'm gonna make a few calls.

I'm sorry, are we actually considering

helping a bloodthirsty biker
gang steal lethal explosives

in order to sell them to a terrorist group?

We're not actually talking about
giving them real explosives.

The Kings will test it.
They're gonna know if it's fake.

Give me a minute.

Nas, we can't use real explosives as bait.

- Something could go wrong.
- It won't.

It has before. At the very least,

we need to put trackers on the crates.

Yeah, and if they sweep
them, Roman and Jane are dead.

So what do you wanna do?

We load the tops of the
barrels with real HMX

and the bottom layers are counterfeit.

That is a huge gamble.

We'll get it back before Sandstorm

ever gets its hands on it.

Look, at this point, Kurt,
what other choice do we have?

You said it yourself, we
need to chase every lead

no matter how risky it is.

Fine. Call your guy.

If he can get the HMX,

I'll come up with a way
for the Kings to steal it.

You okay?

Freddy's girlfriend came by
the apartment looking for him.

That's a good thing, right?

It means he's not doing anything stupid

like trying to reach out to her.

I just feel bad. I can
tell she feels guilty,

like she's responsible or something.

That woman... she is not your problem.

You can't change what happened to Freddy,

and you cannot change what he did.

You gotta start taking care of yourself.

Hey.

Can I ask you a favor?

Yeah, sure. What's up?

If the trap happens with Sandstorm today...

I'd like to be there.

Why don't you ask Weller?

Because he'll say no.

Is this about Borden?

No.

Yes, I just...

I do understand what you're going through.

You do?

You know what it's like to find out

that the person you've been
sleeping with is a terrorist?

To have someone plan these dates

and give you these amazing, useless gifts,

and then kill a bunch of your
co-workers and your friends?

To be so blinded by all
of your feelings you just,

you miss all the signs?

I do, actually.

More than you think.

It's terrible, but you're
not alone here, Patterson.

You know, Dr. Borden fooled all of us.

How could you not see this?

Your whole job...

Your whole job is to analyze intel.

You were bugging his
office, for God's sake.

It was right there in front of you,

but you were too busy listening

to the people in the other chair.

You were spying on the wrong side.

Jane.

Roman, can you give us a minute?

Sure.

You need to be careful.

We will.

No, you need to be careful.

I know you want Roman to
be something different,

but you have to treat him
like any dangerous asset.

Same way that I treated you
when I found out who you were.

Dr. Sun is wrong.

He's my brother, Kurt.
He's not going to hurt me.

And he is capable of love.

He was in a relationship
with Kat, and he loved her.

Or he was playing her
to get what he needed.

The same way you played Jeffrey Kantor.

Shepherd trained both of
you to manipulate people.

Don't let him manipulate you.

You ready?

One way to find out.

Okay...

We got a line on a truck transporting
HMX to Buffalo this afternoon.

We'll hit it here, somewhere in this

empty stretch off State Route 17.

- How many guard vehicles?
- Zero.

What about the drivers?

They're unarmed. It's a shipping truck.

They think they're
carrying cleaning supplies.

Who are they delivering to?

North African extremists.
What does it matter?

It matters if we have a bunch of terrorists

chasing after us for their HMX.

Well, they're waiting for
their shipment in Algeria.

So by the time they realize what happened,

we'll be long gone.

How'd you get this intel?

I have my sources.

We'll force them off the
road and leave them there.

And then Roman and I will
drive off with the HMX.

Kat drives the truck.

We're letting you come along as a courtesy.

You need us to get to Shepherd.

I'm not setting up a deal
with that pile of crazy

unless I know I got what I promised her.

Fine.

Kat drives the truck.

You know how to ride?

Mind if I ride with you?

Sure.

You're gonna need this.

Thanks.

So, it was all a lie?

How come you didn't come back for me?

How come you never came looking?

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

Don't shoot. Please.

See that service exit up there?

Take it.

Out.

I'd like to see those Algerian guys' faces

when they try to blow up a small
village with laundry detergent.

Nice work, Roman.

Keys.

What are you waiting for?

- Yeah, we gotta go.
- We'll move.

Right after you kill these two truckers.

Killing them will bring
attention we don't need.

What happened to the plan?

We said we'd leave 'em
here. We never said "alive."

Look, we got what we wanted.

- We have the HMX.
- And we have witnesses.

They've seen our bikes,
they've seen our faces.

They gotta go.

This guy disappears for a year,

comes back talking deals... I smell a cop.

So either you shoot him, or I shoot him...

There. Now we're good.

We gotta go.

Jeez.

You okay?

He knew we were wearing vests, right?

Are you out of your mind?

I hit them in the vest.

Those vests have seams.

What if you got them between the plates,

- or if you missed?
- I didn't.

And if I hesitated any longer,

Abel would have shot them in the
head right after he shot you and me.

Here you go.

Cheers.

To a job well done.

Well, it's not done yet.

Well, Shepherd just responded
to our digital dead drop.

She's in.

- Sale's going down at 10:00 PM.
- Where?

She doesn't give us the
location until an hour before.

How are we supposed to ambush her

if we can't get there before she does?

That's on you.

Either way, I make a pile of money.

I'm treatin' that HMX as a bonus.

We held up our end of the deal.

Relax.

We'll get you to the sale in
plenty of time to kill your mom.

Feels weird, you being back here.

You know, when you didn't
show up that morning...

I-I've spent a lot of time

trying to figure out what I did wrong.

You didn't do anything.

It was Shepherd.

I've been angry at you for a long time.

I forgot what it's like
to actually be around you.

Do you love me?

Remi doesn't think we should
see each other anymore.

Let's just leave and start over.

Start our own family.
Let's go somewhere safe.

I know that you're
tired of doing everything

that Shepherd and Remi tell you to do.

I can't leave my sister.
We protect each other.

Always have.

I love you.

Remi only cares about Remi.

Okay.

Tomorrow morning, I'll meet you here.

We'll leave together.

- Yeah?
- Yeah.

I have to go.

I'll see you tonight.

I've heard that one before.

Nothing's gonna keep us apart this time.

Trust me.

What did you remember?

I saw that look on your face at the bar.

It's the same one I get.

- Look, whatever it was...
- Why do I have to be in here right now?

I'm still going tonight, right?

Yeah, of course.

It's not like I had a choice...
when I shot your friends.

Things would have been
much worse if I hadn't,

and then everyone would still blame me.

The Kings won't do this deal without me.

You need me there. You
still trust me, right?

Yes.

Hey.

Hey.

How bad does it hurt?

It could have been a lot worse.

I'm so thankful that you're both okay.

- When he shot you I thought...
- He had no choice.

Is something else going on?

- You seem kind of...
- No.

I'm f... fine.

Allie's moving to Colorado.

She got a promotion. She leaves next week.

Does... does that mean... are you...?

No. I'm staying.

It's just, I built a nursery for my baby,

she's not gonna be there.

Sounds a little dumb,

but my whole apartment feels empty now.

That doesn't sound dumb. I think...

Everyone's ready. It's time to move out.

Let's go.

All right, we haven't got ears inside.

Everyone stay sharp.

All access points are covered.

Abel and the rest of the gang will
leave from here for the sale to Shepherd.

We're on them as soon as they head out.

Where is everybody?

Where's Kat?

Hey.

Kat, what are you doing?

Shut up.

You've been lying to me all day.

What are you talkin' about?

Look me in the eyes and tell me that
you're not working with the cops.

Kat, listen to me.

We're not working with the cops.

I don't buy it. And neither does Abel.

How stupid do you think that we are?

Kat, put the gun down.

You didn't wanna kill those
truckers today, did you?

But I did.

- I did everything you asked.
- I had to ask.

Last year, that would have been your idea.

And you held my hand.

You used to never do that.

You think we're working with the
cops because Roman held your hand?

Shut up, Remi! I swear to God...

I told you, he is different now.

Ever since he got shot.

He's better.

Well, I liked him the way that he was.

Wait.

You're right.

We're working with the FBI.

They should have left for the sale by now.

We should go in.

- We go in now, we blow this op.
- Exactly.

In time.

Jane knows what she's doing.

The FBI wants Shepherd.
Not the Kings, not you.

- Stop lying to me.
- That was the only lie.

It's the only way I could see you again.

Everything else between us is real.

I don't believe you.

We can still leave it all behind.

Help me take down Shepherd.

We can go wherever we want.

Just you and me.

You could have come back.

After you woke up. But you didn't.

You stayed with your sister.

Kat...

I love you.

Don't do this.

Abel wants you to get rid of the bodies.

What's goin' on back there, Kat?

Finish your drink, Ed.
This doesn't concern you.

Step out of the way.

Shots fired! Moving in!

Roman!

Kat!

Shh, it's okay. It's okay.

Roman...

I'm right here.

I love you.

She gave us the address already.

If we hurry, we can still get to Shepherd.

Let's go.

Patterson, the sale's going
down at a warehouse in Rockaway.

I need satellite images of 31st and Ocean.

Send us backup now.

On the way.

There are three, nope...

Four exits. The rooftop behind it

should offer good vantage
points for our snipers.

Good.

Roman... are you okay?

We're gonna take her alive, right?

That's up to Shepherd.

- We're gonna try.
- We have to.

I need to know why she erased my memory.

That's the truck.

Shepherd must be inside doing the sale.

All right, I want
teams at every exit point.

- Alpha team, get the rear.
- Copy.

Beta team, I want you holding that door.

Snipers, I want you guys on that roof.

Let's go.

Reade, Tasha, you enter from the left.

- Jane, Nas, you're with me.
- What about Roman?

He's gonna stay here with Agent Boone.

Team, move.

_

This building's condemned.

This door hasn't been opened since 2015.

We've got
the same thing at our door.

Same here.

Something's wrong.

On me.

We're too late.

Sandstorm has the HMX.

Sandstorm knew that we were coming.

How?

They must have known Roman
was a part of the sale

and that we were on to them.

They must have been watching the Kings.

- Or listening to us.
- That's not possible.

I sweep for bugs every morning now.

Maybe there's another mole?

- Maybe there's just...
- All right, no more maybes.

They are always one step ahead of us.

We need to find out how.

They didn't get that much HMX.

And right now we have the entire FBI

using every available
resource to track it down.

We'll find it. We'll find them.

I'm sorry, okay? This...
this is all my fault.

No, it's not.

We both made bad decisions today.

I'll take full responsibility for the HMX.

No, you won't.

I covered for you with Pellington.

I'll cover for you again.

And that's the problem, Kurt.

We can't keep doing this.

Doing what?

We're not thinking clearly.

I'm clouding your judgment,
and you're clouding mine.

This is a conversation about work.

It's not about us.

Of course it is.

I went against my better judgment

putting Roman into the field,

and you ended up getting shot for it.

You went against your better
judgment using the HMX as bait,

and now it's in Sandstorm's hands.

So what's your point?

Look, we have feelings for each other,

of course we do, but...

is it worth losing a war over?

So that's it then?

I think it has to be.

I'll see you tomorrow?

Yes, you will.

Freddy's still not here.

I came to apologize.

You wanna come in?

I looked into Freddy.
He hasn't been to work,

and he hasn't used his
credit cards in weeks.

Do you think that he's dead?

I... I think he doesn't want to be found.

This is all my fault.

No, no, don't... don't do that.

I was too hard on him.

I never should have let
him walk out like that.

No, Freddy made his own
choices. That's not on you.

My God. What happened?

Perks of the job.

Don't worry.

It feels a lot worse than it looks.

Well, it looks pretty bad.

You gonna be okay?

I will be.

I should go.

Thank you for...

Sorry for bothering you.

You're not bothering me.

I'm sorry about Kat.

I lied.

When I told her I loved her.

What?

I just told her what she wanted to hear

so she wouldn't kill us.

I didn't feel anything.

Maybe I never did.

What is wrong with me?

Look, feelings aren't like memories.

You can't just pull them out of a file.

I think that they have to be earned.

In the memory I had,

Kat wanted to run away together.

But I never showed up because
you ordered me to call it off.

Well, I wish that surprised me.

I did a lot of terrible things.

And I'm trying to make up for them.

But if you spend all of your energy

trying to dissect who you were then,

you'll... you'll never be free

to live as the person you are now.

- I'm not free.
- Not yet.

But I swear I am going
to get you out of here.

You think I really loved her?

Yeah.

I do.

I spoke with Shepherd today.

She's pleased with how
you handled the Kings.

- Thank you, sir.
- Don't thank me.

I think your plan was reckless
and ultimately a failure.

Most of the HMX was fake.

How much of it was real?

Enough for now.

Well, then, with all due respect, sir,

it sounds like being reckless paid off.

I'm not here to play it safe.

Why are you here, Parker?

To see this country burn.

Well, I suppose you won't be disappointed.

Hey.

It's not dumb.

What's not dumb?

That you're feeling alone.

That's... that's what I
was going to say earlier.

Thank you.

And there's really no reason

that we both should be sitting home alone

when I've got...

this amazing Pennsylvania beer.

Did you just go out and buy these?

Well, I hear it's pretty good.

Yeah, it's the best. Please, come in.

Okay.

Are you okay?

Bit sore from, where
your brother shot me.

I am not asking for you to put
him back in the field again.

I just...

Just let him outside once in a while.

Or put him somewhere with a window.

Fine. I'll think about it.

Cheers.

You bringing your work home with you?

Going over that NSA
file that Nas has on me.

It's mostly intel from
her Sandstorm informant.

Well, do you want some help?

- You're welcome to.
- Okay.

It's kind of a dead end at the moment.

Ooh, wait.

Is this your high school yearbook?

It's military academy.

Don't get too excited.

I'm hardly in it.

You're right here.

I could have gone pro.

It was the District Finals.

Two seconds left in that game.

I wish I could tell you
that I made that shot.

Weller...

What?

Right here, this woman in the crowd.

What about her?

That's Shepherd.

I remember her.
