Big Sky (1997–1999): Season 2, Episode 12 - Missing in Action - full transcript

- [Blake] So, where you having it,

the royal or the railway? - Railway.

- [Blake] Ah, good,
just around the corner,

won't be far to carry you home.

- [Ian] Really glad you're here, Blake.

- [Blake] Ah, well, it's the only way

I can collect on my bet. - What bet?

- [Blake] I bet you 20 bucks
you'd end up marrying Cathy.

School formal, remember?

- Hey look, I really need to
talk to you about something.

- There he is.
- Yeah, oh right.

- [Terry] Told you he wouldn't pike out

on his own bucks' night.

- Terry, Ron, this is my cousin, Blake.

- How are ya?
- Ah, the best man!

- G'day, Blake, how are ya?
- Hey mate, how ya going?

- Actually we were a bit pissed off.

- Why?

- Well, we thought he might have chosen

one of his army mates. - My cousin.

- So, we gonna get this
show on the road, or what?

- Yeah, look, just give
us a sec, will ya?

(Melodic haunting music)

I'm scared witless, mate.

- Mate, it's a bit late in the
day to be getting cold feet,

isn't it? - I'm not talking about that.

Listen, I got something to show you.

I think I'm in big trouble. - What?

- I don't want Cathy to know,
but a couple of weeks back,

we were on an exercise up near windah,

I saw something I shouldn't have,

now I think they're trying to kill me.

(Knocking on door) -
Hurry up, you blokes!

Come on, we're wasting
valuable drinking time.

- Okay, the rings.

I'll just stick them
in your coat pocket,

so you don't forget them.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.

- You right?
- Yeah.

- [Terry] Let's go.

- [Blake] We've hardly seen each other,

since I left the service
and went to Sydney.

- [Terry] How come you never
told us he was in our game?

- He wasn't.
- Air force.

- Oh, pilot, are ya?
- Yeah, yeah, that's right.

Excuse me, got to go and shake
hands with the unemployed.

(Background pop music)

- I'll get us another round.

- Bigoom!

- They won't leave me alone.
- Terry and Ron?

- They're trying to stop
me from saying anything.

- About what, you know,
hey, what did you see?

- I don't know, I can't be sure,

there were these trucks outside.

- These he is.

I thought you said you were
getting your mates a drink?

- Well, I had to have a slash!
- Come on, mole,

I've a little surprise for you.

- Just let me finish up.
- No, come on.

You've got to come right now,
you have to come with us.

(Cheering)

(Dynamic electronic dance music)

(Knocking on door)

- [Blake] Hang on.

(Knocking on door)

Who is it? - It's me, Cathy!

(Knocking on door)

- Just a sec.

- Long time, no see.
- Hm.

Yeah, you alright, Cath.

- A lot of better than you
and Ian by the looks of it.

I couldn't even wake him.

You were supposed to make
sure he didn't get too drunk.

- [Blake] Sorry.

- His cummerbund.

- [Blake] You want me
to give it to him?

- I also wanna make sure he's okay,

he has to be sober and
presentable by three.

(Melodic haunting music)

He did come back here
last night, didn't he?

- [Blake] Yeah, I put
him on the bed myself.

He was pretty out of it.

- If this is some stupid prank, Blake.

- No, no, well, I had nothing
to do with it, if it is.

- Great, well, he'd
better get back soon

or he'll never be ready.

I'll check his parents' place.

- Yeah, maybe his army
mates know where he is,

I'll give them a call.

- If he's late getting to the
church, I will kill him.

(Mellow melodic music)

- [Jimbo] Yeah, Max
is doing really well,

he got 90% for a maths exam recently.

- Oh, that's great, Jack likes maths,

he won a competition last month.

- Yeah, well Max is doing
some really advanced course,

you know, it's very difficult,
yeah, he's doing well.

- Chloe's been doing
the grade six syllabus

since she was four.

- And English, English,

he got nine out of 10
for a poem recently,

yeah, there's talk of
a publishing deal,

les Murray thought it was
a great little poem.

- [Man on radio] Mayday, mayday,

any aircraft on this
frequency, please copy,

we have a seriously injured
man six miles due west

of lake origin, urgent
evacuation required.

I repeat, mayday.
- This is Romeo hotel Sierra,

received your mayday call.

Eta, approximate arrival is 20 minutes.

- [Man on radio] Yeah, all okay.

- Well, can I talk to him?

Why not?

Look, look, he's meant to
be getting married today.

Well, will you talk to his fiancee?

Hello?

- He's not at his parents'.

- That's because he's back at base.

- What?

- His co just told me.
- Why?

- Not authorized to
give that information.

Something's not right, Cath, not right.

- Somebody's stupid idea
of a joke, I knew it.

Well, it's really pushing it

to get all the way back
from there before.

(Water running)

(Light melancholic music)

Do you think he's changed
his mind about me?

- No, of course not.

Look, he loves you.

- Maybe not anymore.

- Something's going on.

I'm gonna go out and find out what.

- Me too, if he doesn't wanna marry me,

the least he can do is have the
guts to tell me to my face.

- Hey, hey, there they are!

(Dramatic melodic music)

It looks like a satellite dish.

- Where?
- There,

that thing they're covering up there.

- [Chris] Why would they want
a satellite dish out here?

- What about the guns?
- It's too late,

give us a hand.
- It's too late, forget it.

- [Man] Don't say anything,
just pig shooters, okay?

- [Man] Alright, just hurry up.

- Argh!
- You're a lifesaver, mate,

we really appreciate it!
- No probs, what happened?

- Mate had an accident,
got one in the thigh.

- One what?
- Bullet.

We were doing a bit of pig shooting,

he tripped over and his gun went off.

- It's nearly taken his leg off,

what were you guys using, bazookas?

- [Man] You can't afford to
muck around with wild pigs.

(Groaning in pain)

(Mellow melodic music)

Careful, easy!

- [Chris] Big sky base,
this is Romeo hotel Sierra.

- [Shay on radio] This is big sky base.

- Shay, we're gonna need an ambulance

on standby, when we arrive back,

we've got a seriously injured
man in the back here,

his name's mark cooley.

- [Shay on radio] Alright.

- How did you know his name?

- I helped put him in jail

for stealing high grade
weapons from the army.

And Shay, call lightfoot. - Alrighty.

- Mr. lightfoot's going
to be very interested

in our patient.

Romeo hotel Sierra. - Big sky base.

- Those air force blokes

we were investigating a few months ago,

the ones that were
involved with Ellison,

stealing weapons from the army.

- Yeah, what about it?

(Small plane flying overhead)

- Well, how many years
would they have got

for their part of the racket?

- Not much change out of five years.

- Then why was I airlifting one of them

seriously injured out
of the scrub today?

- Which one?
- Cooley.

He was there with some
of his heavily armed,

sus looking mates, they claim
they were shooting pigs.

You don't need m16s to
shoot pigs, do you?

- M16s?

- They also had some very
sophisticated radio equipment,

a satellite dish and the
clothing and everything,

it all looked military issue.

- You get back out there,
take some photographs,

you know the drill, I'll
go and find cooley.

(Slow military drumming music)

He's dead.

- Has Ian said anything to
you about, I don't know,

has anything been worrying him lately?

- Why?

- It's just that he said he
thought he was in trouble,

but didn't get a chance
to tell me exactly why.

- He has been a bit uptight, yeah.

He was probably trying to work out

how to tell me it was over.

- Hey, hey, hey, enough of that,

I know how Ian feels about you.

There's got to be some
other explanation.

Come on.

(Mellow melodic music)

- What's taking so long,
why can't we just see him?

- I don't know.

(Background soldiers drilling outside)

- Blake Wallace?

Major Owens, we spoke earlier.

- I'm Ian's fiancee, Cathy,
I'd like to see him.

- Perhaps you'd like to
step into my office first?

Please take a seat.

- You told Blake that
Ian had come back here.

What's going on?

- Yes, (Helicopter flying overhead)

To be more precise he
was brought back here.

I wasn't entirely Frank with
you before, Mr. Wallace,

because of the sensitivity
of this matter.

I'm sorry to have to tell you this,

but Ian's a very sick man. - Sick?

What do you mean?

- He was okay last night.

- Well, it may well
have seemed that way,

but apparently he was on the
verge of a nervous breakdown,

it seems he collapsed
early this morning

and a couple of his
friends brought him here.

- Terry and Ron, right?

- They were members
of his regiment, yes.

- Can you treat nervous
breakdowns here?

Who says he's had one anyway?

I wanna speak to the
doctor treating him.

- Well yes, of course,
all in good time.

- No, I wanna speak to a doctor

and I wanna see my fiance now.

- He's been heavily sedated.
- I still want to see him.

- We are members of
his immediate family.

(Slow military drumming music)

- Oh, god, Ian.

What is he tied down for,
what are you doing to him?

- For his own safety in
case he might hurt himself.

- He wouldn't.

- He's not staying here, I
want him back home with me,

there's a good hospital there,
his own doctor, his family.

- Ian is receiving the best
possible care, believe you me.

- I want him diagnosed
by a doctor I know,

I want him seen by specialists.

- I understand your concern,

but as long as Ian is an enlisted man,

he's the army's responsibility

and will be cared for by
our own medical personnel.

Now we only have short visits here,

so I have to ask you to leave now.

- I'm not going anywhere,

I'm not leaving him here like this.

- I would prefer not to be forced

into escorting you off the base.

- Come on, Cath.

- [Cathy] The army can't do this.

- I reckon they'll do
whatever they want to.

- He's sick, Blake.
- No,

no, I think he's in trouble.

- You asked me how he's
been acting lately,

well, he's been strange,
moody, irritable, paranoid.

He's had a nervous breakdown

and I want him to have
the best care there is.

- Look, I wanna have a
look in his barracks,

you go back to the plane,
I'll see you soon.

(Melodic haunting music)

- So what are we looking for?

- Well, it's a fishing
expedition really,

anything that gives us a better idea

of what those guys are up to out here.

- Yeah, well I hope none of them

have got m16s to point at us.

- That's why you've got to be quick,

I don't wanna do too
many overhead passes

and frighten the horses.

- Okay, I've got my trigger
finger ready, let's do it.

(Camera shutter clicking)

- You see anything?
- No.

Maybe they've packed up and gone home.

(Explosive booming)

What was that?

Hope that wasn't
something pointed at us.

- Well, we're not gonna
hang around to find out.

Did you get any pictures?

- Well yeah, I got plenty of pictures,

but there wasn't much to look at.

- I thought there was.

- What, land excavation, mining?

- [Chris] Out here?

- I'm just trying to keep
an open mind, Chris,

you know, I don't wanna
jump to any conclusions.

(Melodic haunting music)

- [Jordan] Hey, who are you?

- I'm Blake Wallace, Ian's cousin,

I'm just here to collect his things.

- Well, you're a bit late,
mate, they went with him.

- To sickbay?

- No, he's been transferred to Sydney.

- No, I just saw him here in sickbay.

- No, you can't have,

he was being transferred
straight after he got married.

- Are you sure?

- Well, that's what the co told me.

- [Blake] Thank you.

(Mellow upbeat music)

- You were told to leave
this base for a reason,

I could have you charged!
- I won't stop

until I've found out where he is.

- He's been transferred to Sydney.

He's being held at the armed
forces corrective center

at greenhills pending my investigation

into very serious charges
of espionage and treason,

which have been brought against him.

- What?

- We didn't want this
situation getting out,

before the whole matter had
been investigated fully,

hence the cover story of an illness.

- You're wrong, no way!

What's he supposed to have done?

- I'm afraid that's
classified information.

- But...

- That's all I can say at this time.

(Helicopter flying overhead)

I would suggest that you
take no more interest

in this affair, it has
nothing to do with you.

(Slow military drumming music)

Mr. Wallace is ready
to leave the base now.

(Dramatic military drumming music)

- These are your pilots,
this is Paula and Rosie.

Have fun! - Thanks.

- Thanks.
- Hi.

- Morning, - hi,

I'm Brad, this is Colin.

- Hi.
- Hi.

- So your chutes all
packed and ready to go?

- Yeah and I can't wait!

- So you've obviously done this before?

- Yeah, it's tradition, every vacation,

our way of seeing the sites.

You get to know a place real fast,

when you hurl yourself
at it from 10,000 feet.

- Yeah, I guess you do.

So what part of the
states are you from?

- San Francisco.

- Really, I stayed there with a friend

for a couple of months, what part?

- I'm just near alamo square.

- Oh, you're kidding.

- It's a small world, isn't it?

(Laughing)

- Yeah, all the crockery
started rattling,

like the walls were shaking
and the floor buckled

and everyone dove for
cover, but you know,

I've never been in an
earthquake before,

so I didn't know what was going on.

- I was in frisco for the last big one.

- Oh, were you?
- I saw this road just,

it split in two right in front of me.

- Oh, wow!
- What did you do?

- Turned around fast and
got the hell out of there.

- We're approaching
the drop zone, guys.

- [Paula] See you down there.

- "See you down there."

- All stations temora,
Charlie tango delta

is overhead temora at 10,000
for parachute operations.

Canopy release in 20 seconds.

(Melodic suspenseful music)

Sorry, it's a bit bumpy, guys,

I'll try and keep it steady for you.

- [Brad] No problem!

- Woo!
- Woo, I am ready!

Okay, leap!

- It's impossible, Ian
loves being in the army,

he'd never do anything to
risk being thrown out.

Should we get him a lawyer?

- No, look, as soon as
I've taken you home,

I'll go back to Sydney and
see what I can find out.

You know you said he's been
acting strange lately,

well, when did it start?

- It was when he got back
after an exercise they did

outside windah, it's a
few months ago now.

- That's when he had seen something.

- What?

- No, no, he didn't
get a chance to say.

- You think that's what
he's in trouble for now?

- It's possible,

the only way to really find
out now is to talk to him.

- Today was meant to
be our wedding day,

it was gonna be so special.

I love Ian, I just want this
to be over, I want him back.

- Hey, we'll get him back, Cath.

- [Rosie] That's really bruised.

- You sure I can't
ring a doctor for you,

it's really no problem.

- A bit of ice, a couple
of aspirin, I'll be fine.

- What are we gonna
do about the others?

We were meant to meet up for a surf

this afternoon, remember.

- Well, you'll just
have to go without me.

- But you're my main man.

- I'm not gonna wreck
your vacation, Colin.

Just go, I'll be okay.
- If you're sure?

- I'll see you back at the hotel.

- Okay.

Look after yourself. - I will.

- Thanks, Paula.
- See you, col.

- Rosie.
- See ya.

- Well, if you won't let
me call a doctor for you,

at least let me give you a
lift back to the hotel.

- [Brad] You don't have
to do that really.

- [Paula] No, I want to.

- Okay, if you insist,
thanks very much.

- Hm.
- Yeah.

Okay, you got your remote control?

- Great.

- Magazines.
- Thank you.

- So is there anything
else that I can get you?

- Well, if you wouldn't
mind, I'm really hungry.

- Alright then, I'll just
ring up room service for you,

you're lazy.

- Oh, this place isn't ritzy
enough for room service.

- Okay, well why don't I just go out

and get you some takeaway?

- Oh no, I was just gonna
ask if you could tell me

somewhere good that delivers
and I'll just call.

- Yeah, but then you've got to
get up and get to the door,

so I'll just go and get you something.

What do you feel like?

- [Both] Pizza.

- That'd be great

and if you could pick up a
couple of beers as well.

- Yeah, sure.

Okay, I'll be back soon.

- Okay.

(Mellow upbeat music)

- Hey, Blake, how was the wedding?

Oh, was the bride gorgeous?

(Melodic haunting music)

Okay.

No luck?

- No, the usual runaround,

can't give you that
sort of information.

I'll need to go to greenhills
in person tomorrow.

Something to show me,
something to do with

whatever it was he saw,
that he shouldn't have.

- Like what?

- He mentioned trucks.

- What do you mean?
- I don't know!

I don't know.

Sorry.

- That's okay.

You know, Blake,

maybe you should speak to lightfoot,

maybe he could pull a
few strings for you.

- Yeah, maybe.

- It's gonna be alright.

Hm?

(Slow military drumming music)

- [Jimbo] I know they're
not much to look at,

but we didn't wanna hang around
given the circumstances.

- Understandable.
- Not much to go on really.

- We're gonna have to go by road,

see what we can see from the ground.

- [Jimbo] What do you mean we?

- We're dealing with some
seriously armed men here,

shouldn't we be bringing
your federal police mates?

- Normally, yes, but someone
got cooley out of jail.

We make this investigation
official now,

we could tip that someone off.

- So we sneak in, take a pic
and hope nobody sees us.

- You're my only option at this point.

I'll arrange a digital camera,

so you can relay back
what you see to me.

- [Jimbo] You won't be joining us?

- [Lightfoot] I'll find
out who owns that land,

who's leasing it and
what they want it for.

- Cool, well, if we're gonna
get our heads blown off,

I can't think of anyone
else I'd rather do it with.

- [Paula] I didn't know what you like,

so I just got you one with the lot.

- Mm, fantastic, help yourself.

- Oh no, I work on a Wednesday.

- You've got to have some of this,

I'll never finish that.

- You sure?

- Yeah, why don't you
get yourself a beer?

- Oh, okay.

So what do you do

when you're not jumping out
of my plane on your holidays?

- I'm in the marines.

(Light melodic music)

- Oh, so you're a sailor?

- Does that matter?
- No.

No.

- We don't all have a girl
in every port, you know.

- Oh, look, even if you
do, who am I to judge?

- I'm just saying you haven't
walked into a cliche,

if that's what you're thinking.

As these two French motorcycle police

and I don't speak French, right

and I had no idea what was going on

in the middle of this conversation.

Got a skateboard, right
and he'd be, we'd be.

This brine like crazy and
I said to my friend.

- Starting to restrict you,
you should take them off,

you know, clean the channels and stuff.

Let me see you.

Oh, my god!

- What?

- It's 5:30, I'm really sorry,

I don't usually stay that long
talking to people like this.

- Well look, to be honest with you,

it's really the best
night I've had in ages.

- Yeah, me too.

(Birds twittering)

- Well.

- Well,

maybe we could try again sometime.

- [Paula] Yeah.

- How about tonight?

- Yeah.

- Say around eight o'clock?

- Seven?

- Seven's good.

(Slow military drumming music)

- I'm here to see my cousin,
corporal Ian Wallace,

I understand that he's here.

- I'm sorry, corporal
Wallace is not permitted

any unauthorized visitors.

- So how do I get in to see him?

- Well, you could put a request in

with the commanding officer in writing.

- I wanna see him now.

- I'd be happy to pass
it on for you, sir.

- Look, just let me in,
I just need to see him.

- [Sgt. Doyle] I don't think
that's a very good idea, sir,

I'm sorry.

- This is amazing!

Look at this, you just point
the little camera here,

press the button, it
goes through the laptop,

through the mobile phone via satellite

and straight to lightfoot.

I love this guy, he's just
got the best gadgets.

- And the riskiest jobs.

- Yeah, I was thinking
about that actually,

do you think we should
maybe like have a,

I don't know, like a cover story

just in case we bump
into some you know,

heavily armed clowns, who
ask us what we're doing?

- Is there anything you can think of

that they would actually believe?

- I don't know, surveyors, geologists.

- I think it's better we
just don't run into anyone.

- Metallurgists, they'd
be wanting to take photos

of you know, like iron ore deposits

and rich seams of copper, huh?

Here, here, smile.

- You're sure the nervous
breakdown was just a ruse,

that your cousin wasn't really ill?

- Then why are they holding
him at greenhills?

A military prison.

There's absolutely nothing
wrong with my cousin,

if he said he saw
something, then he did

and now he's in trouble for it.

- Alright, I'll see what I can do.

- Thank you, sir, I appreciate it.

- Chris and jimbo just called,

they're on their way to the site now.

- Good.

- [Blake] You won't forget about Ian?

- [Lightfoot] Yes, alright, Blake.

- See, told you he could help you out.

- [Lightfoot] I have another
problem with the army,

one of the pilots of big
sky has a cousin enlisted,

he's got himself into
some serious trouble,

they can't find out the full story.

- [Black] Do you want me
to get on to the minister,

see what's going on?

- Well, Blake's a good fellow,

I'd like to help him if I can.

- I'm sure a few discreet,
unofficial inquiries can't hurt.

(Light melodic music)

Wallace, corporal, Ian Wallace.

(Door buzzing)

- [Ian] I've told you
all this before, sir.

- [Major owens] And I want
to hear it one more time,

corporal, exactly what
did you see and where?

(Slow military drumming music)

- It was during the joint training
exercise out near windah,

I was out doing reconnaissance.

- Alone?
- Yes, alone,

that was the order, I was one
of the scouts that went ahead.

We came across a building

like a bunker out in
the middle of nowhere.

- And exactly where
were you at this point?

- I don't know exactly, I
sort of lost my bearings.

I was wondering where I was
when I came across it.

- What was this building?

- Don't know, it didn't have
a name on it or anything,

I thought it probably
belonged to a mining company,

but then I saw us army
vehicles driving into it,

they were unloading something.

- What?

- I couldn't see exactly what,
but it was obviously fragile,

they were taking great care with it.

- And this is what you
took photographs of?

- Yeah, I thought it was
probably part of the exercise,

I didn't wanna stuff it up,

I thought maybe this was what
I was meant to be scouting.

- So what did you do with the photos?

- I gave them to the officer in charge,

in case that was what
I was meant to do.

- So that's it?

- The next day another
officer came to see me,

told me to forget I'd seen anything,

shut up about the whole thing.

- So what happened to the negatives?

- I threw them away,

I thought the photos were
part of the exercise,

I didn't know I had to keep them, sir.

- So you're absolutely sure
you destroyed the negatives?

- Yes, why do you keep asking me that?

I've told you, I haven't got them.

(Door opening)

- Excuse me, major, there's
a phone call for you.

- I gave orders not to be interrupted.

- It's the major general,
he says it's urgent.

- I see, thanks.

(Slow military drumming music)

(Sighing)

If you recall that you
didn't dispose of them,

I suggest that it's in
your best interests

to tell me where they are
as soon as possible.

I don't understand how
the matter became known.

The family have been
asking a few questions,

but that's all, it couldn't
have gone that far.

The minister?

Well, of course the situation
has to be rectified.

Surely there must be another way, sir.

Yes, sir, I understand.

It will be.

Take corporal Wallace back to his cell.

(Birds twittering)

- [Jimbo] Chris, that explosion
we saw the other day.

- [Chris] Yeah, what about it?

- [Jimbo] You don't
think that was set off

by unwanted visitors walking
where they shouldn't,

if you know what I mean?

- [Chris] Well, we'll
just have to be careful

where we put our feet, won't we?

- Yeah.

(Soldiers drilling)

(Slow military drumming music)

Look how many of them there are,

there must be what, 30, more?

- Well, what do you know,
another old friend.

That's cooley's boss, Briggs,

he ran the stolen guns deal
from the air force's end.

- [Jimbo] What, did they all get
get out of jail free cards?

- [Chris] Get a shot of that guy there.

- [Jimbo] What, another one?

- Well, another one of
cooley's mates, that's spud,

they stick together, don't they?

- Extraordinary, that's all
three of the air force officers

charged in that gun smuggling
operation with Ellison.

So what the hell are
they doing out there?

- [Black] And why,
there's enough men there

to form a small platoon.

- The plot thickens, foreign
money's running the show.

- Mercenaries.

- For some conflict
overseas, it's possible.

- Well, let's hope so.

What if their eventual
mission is a local one?

(Melodic haunting music)

- I reckon I could get
a better shot of them

from that Ridge up there.

- No, we've got enough
to show lightfoot.

Let's just get to the car
and get out of here.

- [Briggs] Hey!

(Dramatic melodic music)

(Melodic upbeat music)

Did you see which way they went?

- They must have run
passed me, check the road!

- [Briggs] What's coming?

(Slow military drumming music)

- It's time.

Have you got Wallace's cell key?

Do you know what is to happen?

- Yes, sir.

- [Jimbo] We can't outrun 'em,
they're trained commandos!

- [Chris] Then we'll hide!

(Slow military drumming music)

- Down here!

- You're free to go.

(Melodic suspenseful music)

Well, come on.

- You mean I can just go?

- I'm ordering you to.

- The charges, they're
gonna be dropped?

- You're to be dishonorably discharged.

- On what grounds?

- You'll be formally
notified in due course.

- I don't understand.

- Just go, Wallace.

(Slow military drumming music)

- I can't hear anything.

Is that the idea?

Is it a trap?

- Well, if it is maybe now's the time

to tell them we're metallurgists.

(Birds twittering)

Come on.

- [Jimbo] I hope you
know where we're going!

- I was following you!

Hey, there it is!

- [Jimbo] I told you I
knew where I was going!

- There they are!
- Open fire!

(Guns firing)

- [Jimbo] Maybe we should say
we're environmental activists.

(Guns firing) - No, I know what to do!

- Private geological claim?
- No, just keep running!

(Guns firing)

- What did these guys
eat for breakfast?

Go, go, go!

(Tires screeching)

(Melodic upbeat music)

(Light haunting music)

- [Paula] I'm sorry but there
must be some kind of mistake,

can you just check again, it's room 26,

there's got to be a message for me.

- I'm sorry, he checked
out this afternoon.

- Oh, so he didn't leave
a forwarding address

or a message?

- I'm sorry.

He was a visiting
serviceman, wasn't he?

(Slow military drumming music)

- Are you sure?

Okay, thanks.

It's the Pentagon.

- What?

- That's who's bankrolling
this private army.

(Melodic haunting music)

- And nobody in our government
knows anything about it?

- That's the way it looks

or we would've known this
information much sooner.

- Why are the Americans
playing soldiers on our soil?

- Well, let's get the federal police

to get out there and find out.

- No, that's too sensitive.

We put a foot wrong,

the consequences could be
politically catastrophic.

No, we tread quietly,

I'll go out there myself.

- [Blake] Yeah, hang on a sec!

(Slow military drumming music)

Ian, what are you doing here?

- They let me out, I don't know why,

they've got to be following me,

have you still got the rings?
- Yeah, of course.

- [Ian] Give them to me,
I've got to hide them.

- Well, where you going?
- I don't know,

somewhere safe, they'll be
coming after me, I know it,

that's got to be why they let
me go, they're after these.

- [Blake] Got what, I mean,
where are you gonna go?

- [Ian] I haven't worked
it out yet, I'll call ya!

- Yeah, can... (Tires screeching)

Ian, Ian, Ian! (Tires screeching)

Ian.

Mate.

(Sobbing)

(Slow military drumming music)

Ian's dead.

They let him out, they killed him,

they ran over him, made
it look like an accident.

See, he did see something,

he wasn't making it up.

That's what the army
didn't want him to see.

(Melodic haunting music)

See, he wasn't mad, he
wasn't imagining it.

The army had him killed for this,

I'm not gonna let them
get away with it.

- What are they unloading?
- Where were these taken?

- He said it was on a joint
exercise just outside of windah.

- A joint exercise, with who?
- The Americans.

What?

- They'll have been paid by
our friends in the bush,

it's no coincidence.

(Slow military drumming music)

(Melodic haunting music)

- Maybe they knew
somebody was on to them.

- Black, lightfoot, I
want the police out here,

need the whole area
combed for any clue,

any indication to where
these men have gone.

Right.

Damn it, damn it!

- [Chris] You alright?

- First time in my life I
don't know what's going on.

We've got fully armed
mercenaries out there

and I don't know where
they're gonna turn up

or what they're gonna do,

assassinate somebody, break
strikes, take hostages,

I haven't got a clue what
I'm gonna do about it.

(Mellow melodic music)

(Light melodic music)
