[Tamara] Let's get after it.

All over Kansas City,
there are neglected mansions

that can be bought
for a bargain.

The worse they start,
the better they end.

It just takes
a little imagination

and a whole lot of hard work
to bring these tired houses
back to life.

- This is fabulous.
- [man] Oh, wow.

My dad Ward by my side.

[Ward] It's so beautiful.
I like it.

[Tamara]
We're helping clients design

and transform these houses...

- I'm in heaven.
- [man 2] I love it.

[Tamara] ...into
a stunning forever homes.

My next project
is in Leawood, Kansas,

which is a really beautiful
part of Kansas City.

This neighborhood
has really held its value
over the years.

The homes were built on
so much space.

They have land around them,
beautifully manicured yards.

There's definitely
a curb appeal

that can't be denied.

In this neighborhood,

houses go for over
a million all the time.

And the house that we're going
to get to start working on

is a hidden gem.

My clients, Beth and Zack,

got a steal
of a deal on this house.

I know they've been dying
for a new kitchen.

They actually already ordered
the new kitchen cabinets

before they even called us.

But I cannot wait
to get started working on this

because the sky's the limit
on what we can do here.

- [Tamara] Hi!
- Hey, Tamara.

How are you guys doing?

- Great. How are you?
- Good to see you.

- Good to see you, too.
- Oh, my gosh.

Your house is fantastic.

- Look at this.
- [Zack] Thank you.

We're Zack and Beth Farley,

and we've lived in Leawood,
Kansas, for five years.

I was born and raised
in Topeka, Kansas,

so not far away.

And then I ended up at school
in Iowa, where I met Zack.

And then shortly after that,
we moved here to Kansas City.

And then we got married
and we purchased this house

about four months ago.

[Zack] So
when we bought this house,

we were really looking
for more space

because Beth and I work
from home quite a bit

and our two girls
are pretty active,

so we like having more space,

but we're also looking forward
to making the space our own.

And that's what
we're really excited about
in this process.

[Beth]
We love the traditional look
of the house.

I would say that's our style,

but we just really needed
to make a few updates

here and there
and bring it all together.

So what we're really
hoping out of this experience

is that she can sort
of translate

what it is that we want
into actuality.

[Tamara]
The stone is so beautiful.

[Beth] That's one
of the things we loved

- about this house is...
- [Zack] Mm-hmm.

[Beth] ...all the stonework

and all the stuff
going on out here.

[Tamara]
This is a five-bedroom,

four-bath stone home
built in 1993.

It is 4,800 square feet
over two levels.

Beth and Zack purchased
the house for $870,000.

They have a budget
of 150,000 for renovations

with a timeline of ten weeks.

It's a beautiful house.

Like, there's not a whole lot

that needs to change other
than you could definitely get
a little bit of color.

We'd love to add
some more color
to the landscape,

maybe some bigger plants.

Really, just,
kind of, make it pop

because the house
is such a good canvas.

- [Tamara] Absolutely.
- We'd love to just add
a little bit more landscaping.

Can we go take a peek?

- Yeah, absolutely.
- Yeah.

Come on in.

Wow. Look at this.

[Beth]
This is our lovely home.

[Tamara]
Zack and Beth want me to take
a look at the entrance,

the parlor,
and the kitchen to start.

This is incredible.
Look at that light.

[Beth] Yes, that drew us
in the first time we saw it.

So sparkly and it gives off
so much light.

The entryway
was very captivating to us
when we saw it.

But we see a lot of pink,
all of the walls are,

you know,
kind of that blush pink

that was common
to the time everywhere.

Well, I'll say, I love pink.

I mean, it's kind of my color,
but this is a lot even for me.

Yes. It's a lot of pink.

So we're hoping to freshen
that up and do something

that goes a little better
with our tastes.

[Tamara] Right. I feel like
this can be really amazing.

- [Bath] Yeah.
- Okay.

Show me the rest.
What else is there?

[Zack] Yeah.
So we'll come here.

- Wow. I see more pink.
- That's right.

That's the theme
of the house.

[Tamara] And drapes.

- [Beth]
Yes, very large drapes.
- [Tamara] Wow.

[Zack] Big, yes.

And they are beautiful,
just not exactly

what we're going
for right now.

- Times have changed.
- Yeah.

- Kind of like the green tile.
- [Beth] Yes.

[Zack] That's right. Yeah.

[Tamara] It's kind of like
the '80s showed up today.

[Beth] Right.

We'd love to update the green
into something a little

brighter and fresher and--

[Tamara]
A little more sophisticated.

- [Beth] Yes.
- [Zack] Yeah.
And same with the brass.

I think that's something else
that we'd like to see
go as well.

Absolutely. I mean, I...

I feel like this is such
a traditional home.

This just doesn't fit
with the rest of everything.

What is this space used
for generally?

Like,
do you envision a TV, art?

We like to keep this
as more of a sitting room.

We have a TV elsewhere.

This is more of our room
to relax

at the end of the night
and play games

and read books and more
of just our sitting room.

[Tamara] Okay.
Well, we can fix the pink.

We can definitely fix
the drapes.

[Beth]
Yeah, that sounds great.

- [Tamara] Absolutely.
- Okay, so what's in here?

[Beth]
So this is our hearth room,

our bar, our dining area,
and our kitchen.

[Tamara] Wow. Okay.
This is a lot of space.

- [Zack] Yeah.
- [Beth] Yeah.

Super curious,
what's happening here?

Yeah.
So TVs used to be smaller,

and they used
to go in cabinets.

And so this is a built-in
for a TV,

but it obviously doesn't fit
this TV.

And actually,
it goes up pretty high

- and down pretty low.
- Oh.

And so the TV's mounted
inside currently,

which is kind
of a temporary thing...

- [Tamara] I see.
- [Zack] ...until
we figured out what to do.

So, I mean, this is a really
great sized kitchen.

[Beth] Yeah.

And I am intrigued
by even more pink in the tile,

but red and pink?

[Beth] Yeah,
the pink flows throughout.

[Zack] We told you,
it's everywhere.

- [Beth] It keeps on going.
- [Tamara]
It's really everywhere.

I mean, like, you've got
the pink tile that ties

into the rusty pink
countertops, like...

- [Beth] Yeah.
- Wow.

I didn't know
there was pink granite,

but there is apparently.

Well, and this guy.

So I had one,
it was a black version,

but identical to this.

And I could boil water
on one thing,

but nothing else could be
turned on

or the water
wasn't gonna boil.

[Beth]
Yeah. And it takes an hour
for the water to heat up.

And yes.

It's faster to throw it
in the microwave.

Yes.

So we'd love to switch
to gas and get off

this electric cooktop.

Yes. Well, and then
with little ones,

isn't this kind
of dangerous too?

A lot of little hands
find their way up there.

So we'd like to move it off
of the island.

[Tamara] Okay.

How are you feeling about
the way
this functions otherwise?

This peninsula feels kind
of like you're trapped
a little bit.

[Tamara] Right.

[Zack] So maybe cutting
that out otherwise--

So you're thinking maybe like
stove on this wall,

and then like
a big long island

- where you could sit
on this side...
- [Beth] Yeah.

...and get like
a more statement

- kind of moment.
- [Beth] Yes.

- We like the island,
but it just feels so small.
- Right.

So we'd like to explore ways
to maybe make this bigger,

cut out the peninsula
and maybe switch around

some of the appliances.

I feel like

we can definitely make
this a million times better.

And it sounds to me like
this is just a total gut
for the kitchen.

- [Beth] Right.
- [Zack] Yeah. Yep, absolutely.

[Tamara] Okay.

For the entryway,
we'll cover the space

in a gorgeous jewelry box,
blue paint

to highlight
the existing chandelier.

In the parlor,

we'll use a complementary
deep blue paint on the walls

and dress up the ceiling

with a gold patterned wallpaper.

Then we'll tile the fireplace
in an elegant herringbone

to anchor the space.

In the kitchen,
we'll line the walls

with all new gray cabinets,

then we'll add a huge island

with a deep walnut stain
and top it all off

with modern
brass light fixtures.

So we'll get started
with the kitchen.

And once we get that underway,

we'll move on
to the main suite.

- [Beth] Sounds great to us.
- [Zack]
Yeah, we're really excited.

- We can't wait.
- I'm excited.

I think this is gonna
turn out really beautiful.

Okay, so do you want to try
and get this out in one piece?

- We could just sledgehammer.
- Yeah.

I feel like Beth
should be here for this.

She would be so happy
to see this leaving.

This stove is original
to the house.

This thing has got to go.

And it's going to be
a really great day

when Beth is cooking with gas
instead of this thing.

We've got some fantastic plans
for a new layout,

a great big island

that really maximizes
the space.

But we're also gonna get
the stove out of the island

and we're going
to put it on the wall,

make it a focal point,

and really
make it pop in here.

Okay.

At least there's hardwoods
under here.

Oh.

I feel like
I was a lot of help there.

I'm headed back out
to Leawood today

to meet up with Beth and Zack.

Now that we've gotten started
with the main living space,

we're gonna
talk about the design

for their main suite.

Oh, my gosh.

[Beth] Well, the pink ended.

- Yeah.
- Yeah. Finally.

- And purple begins.
- Yeah.

My goodness.

The space is fantastic,

and the floors
are in good shape.

- Yeah, they really are.
- They really are.

And we loved just having
a bigger space

and the higher ceilings
in here.

We just...
we love this room.

[Tamara]
This is a beautiful room.

- The drapes are intense.
- [Beth] Yes.

For such a lovely window.

[Tamara] I mean,
this view is really stunning.

Like, look at your yard.

It's... This is fantastic.

The walls don't have any,
like, issues, really.

We just get rid of the drapes,
do something more awesome.

[Zack] Hmm.

And these high ceilings
are incredible.

They're just begging
for a statement wallpaper.

[Beth] You know,
we'd love to have a little bit
more light in here.

So right now, we only have
those two small lights
above the bed.

And so when
we're not getting daylight,

it gets really dark
really fast.

- [Zack] Yeah.
- [Tamara] I can see that.

What about the bathroom?

[Zack] Yeah,
it's right through here.

Wow.

Master bath.

Okay.

This is just a lot, right?

Like there's a lot happening
in here with the tile.

This really low vanity,
giant mirror.

Like, I can't even quite
take it all in.

So when you're thinking
of your new bathroom,

what kind of pieces
of the puzzle
are you looking for like?

[Beth] So we'd love
a nice big tub
to sit back here.

- We'd love a bigger shower.
- [Tamara] Right.

It doesn't look like
there's a whole lot of storage
in here.

No, we probably
would want more storage.

Yeah, we'd love some
more cabinets up in here.

Right.

Just to kind
of keep stuff hidden.

[Tamara]
Like it's a big space,
it's just kind of dead.

[Beth] Yeah.

[Tamara] In the main bedroom,
we'll wrap the walls

in a soft, pewter gray color.

Then we'll add
a marble wallpaper
on the ceiling

and finish off the space

with an antique
silver leaf pendant

light on each side
of the bed.

In the bathroom,
we'll line in the walls

with a gray
and white porcelain

set against a crisp white.

Then we'll add
a luxurious soaker tub

and a new dual vanity
with a deep walnut stain.

I mean, you've got
a lot of space

to work with here,

and I think we can
make it pretty amazing.

- Awesome. We're ready.
- Yeah.

[Tamara] It's gonna be fun.

How's it going in here, guys?

- Going good.
- Ooh.

- Is that coming out
in one piece?
- Yeah.

I'm here for Zack and Beth's
main suite,

and I'm really excited.

Okay. Let's make this happen.

This bathtub
is original to the house.

It's time to get it
out of here.

And I can't wait to see
how much space we really have.

That should be good.

My plan for this bathroom

is to turn it into a true
spa-like bathroom.

Just make this feel
really elegant

but also has a little
pop of color.

Okay.

You want to get this
out of here?

Yeah.
Let's get it out of here.

- [Kassidy] Hey, Tamara.
- [Tamara] Yeah.

[Kassidy]
Want to come over here
and help me look at this?

Got everything kind
of all spread out for you.

So we need to pick
the shower floor

in Beth and Zack's bathroom.

[Tamara] Okay.

[Kassidy] So this is the slab
that we have for the walls.

[Tamara] I feel like
this is too yellow with this.

[Kassidy] Agreed.

[Tamara]
Like, I think that just
doesn't look quite right.

And it's not quite
dramatic enough.

Since this is a porcelain,

I feel like going
with a natural marble
kind of looks off.

[Kassidy] Yeah.

- [Tamara] This and this.
- [Kassidy]
This other one I picked.

[Tamara] Ooh,
I think that's an easy choice.
I think this one.

- [Kassidy] I really love that.
- [Tamara] Yeah.

- [Kassidy] I love the V.
- I do, too.

You know, this is pretty,

but it's not nearly
as dramatic as this.

And I like how this has
such good veining,

and this has more of a veining

versus this has more
of a metallic look.

- [Kassidy] Yeah.
- I think
this is a great palette.

- What do you think?
- I mean, I love it.

- I think also that bathroom
is so big.
- Yeah.

Like, you kind of want
a dramatic look in the shower.

[Tamara] I think so, too.

[Kassidy] Especially
with the large format tile.

And it's gonna
look really pretty.

- I love it. Okay.
- All right, well...

That's the one.

...I mean, I'll get this
all ordered and set,

but otherwise, all these other
tiles are good to go, so...

- [Tamara] Awesome.
- Yay!

All right.

[Tamara] I'm over
at Beth and Zack's house

for the cabinet installation.

I'm really excited to see
this start coming together.

So what goes?
Is there something in between?

- There's another one of those.
- Another pantry. Yep.

Another pantry, two more.

[Tamara] I don't think
two more are gonna fit there.

These pantries look
really massive

for this not massive wall.

So I have a feeling

we're going to have
to make some tweaks to this.

Stove goes on this wall.

- [Steve] Right.
- Fridge goes here.

- Okay.
- Do these fit?

If we put all three
of these on this wall,

do they fit this wall?

Beth and Zack had already
ordered their cabinets

when I started
working on this.

It's like a giant puzzle piece
to figure out

where these are gonna fit

without having
to rebuild cabinetry.

We don't have time for that.

I feel like this makes
the kitchen feel bigger.

- [Steve] Yeah.
- Right?

Like, it felt really heavy
on that side.

And with these over here,

it feels like this is the back
of the kitchen. It's the wall.

Right, over here,
it just felt heavy and bulky,

and now it feels a lot better.

Opening up the visual space
makes such a difference.

And having that big,
beautiful wall of cabinetry
on the back

is gonna look awesome.

- Way better.
- [Steve] Way better.

[Tamara]
I'm feeling good about it.

I'm finishing up
the second coat

of this stunning parlor.

Tamara.

Hey, Dad.

I brought Dad over
to check out this project.

He hasn't seen this house,
and I'm curious

what he's going
to think of this blue.

He's not really into drama.

Oh, my gosh.

Yeah?

This is pretty cool.

It's really nice, isn't it?

It is really nice.
I love the fireplace.

When you walk
in the front door,
that's a focal point.

It feels striking to me.

This feels really elegant.

I mean, such a great house.

And imagine this,
so you've got
this whole room, this color,

and then this whole space
is going to be this color.

[Ward] Baby blue.

No, dusty blue.

Oh, excuse me.

It's dusty blue.

This entryway is sprawling.

It's two stories,
tons of trim,

and has this unbelievable
crystal chandelier.

So all of this will be blue,
all this.

And then here
is where the kitchen starts.

[Ward] Nice kitchen.

[Tamara] Right?

This house is really gonna be
set up for entertaining.

Right?
And then this is the island.

So it starts here.

Sink is gonna be here.
Dishwasher there.

The island
is going to end right...

- right here.
- Okay.

And we'll have barstools
here and here.

And then this will be like
a nice little sitting area

like a chair
and just maybe side table.

And this is
an entertaining area.

This whole area,
you can open the doors

and all of a sudden
that becomes
almost part of the kitchen.

[Tamara] Exactly. It's going
to be a gorgeous kitchen.

I can't wait to see
this house done.

The guys are finishing up
painting in the main bedroom.

And Gary and I
are here to install
the ceiling wallpaper.

Just grab a hold
of the bottom of this strip.

Right down there.

- Okay.
- You need to...

Oh, that's all right.

Take...
grab that end.

Grab that end.

This main bedroom at Beth
and Zack's house is getting

the most beautiful wallpaper
on the ceiling today.

And I'm really excited
to help Gary get it up there.

I feel like it needs
to come this way a little bit.

Thank goodness
I was here to help Gary,

because getting
strips this long

all the way across the room
is a major undertaking.

I love putting wallpaper
on the ceiling.

It's a great way to add impact
and drama to a space,

and it always plays off

of the light fixture
in the space

and the way the light hits
the room and it's just cozy.

The days are flying by.

And we're moving ahead
at full steam here
at Zack and Beth's.

The floor and shower tile
are going in
in the main bathroom.

And in the kitchen.

We're installing
the trim on the cabinets

and painting them
a crisp white.

The foyer is being painted
a soft blue to complement

the deep blue of the parlor.

And we're putting
a beautiful herringbone tile

on the fireplace.

Hey, Gary.
How you doing?

[Gary] Oh, good, Ward.
How are you?

[Ward] I'm good.
What can I help you with?

Well, you want to climb up
there on that walk plank?

I would be happy to do that.

I wouldn't do this
for just anybody.

Tamara asked me to assist
with putting up the wallpaper

in the parlor room.

Try not to fall off.

That's...
That would be a good thing.

The wallpaper
is really beautiful.

That goldy sheen
just really matches well

with that blue on the walls.

It really sets the house apart
as being a mansion.

Okay, Gary.
Who's better at this?

Tamara or me?

Tamara is better looking.

[Ward] That's a good answer.

[Tamara] So Zack and Beth have
all that blue wall space

that I want it to kind of pop
with some art.

And so I thought I would try
and be an artist today.

I mean,
I make kitchens look good,

so I figure I can make
a canvas look good.

You can do this.

[Tamara] So okay, have you
ever done this before?

- No, no, I'm curious.
- So it's a pour, no brushing.

This is all about
just gravity.

[Steve]
Oh, so you're pouring them
all in the same...

Oh, so you're not pouring like
a blue and a pink or whatever.

- You're pouring them
all together.
- [Tamara] No.

So we've got the cups
that we fill up in order,

but you've got
to pour it down the side

so that it doesn't mix up
in the cup.

And you just get layers
of color

that you flip upside down
onto the canvas.

Okay.
Now it's the moment of truth.

Okay. Ready?

Yeah.

[Tamara]
This is one of those pieces

where it's really going
to incorporate

all of the colors
that we've done in the house,

but with a few pops
that make it really stand out.

So how long do we have
to let it sit like this?

[Tamara] So you want it
to just kind of drip down.

- [Steve] Okay.
- [Tamara]
The edges of the cup.

So we just got to sit.

And then all at once
you reveal exactly

what you're working with,

tilt and use gravity
to make the art.

[Steve] These are actually
really cool.

So the thinner that is,
the more of that runs, right?

Yeah.
I think we're done.

I like this.
It's modern art.

It's like four little canvases
right here in one.

The countertops arrived today
at Beth and Zack's house.

And I've got Dad and Steve
over there

to help install them.

This is the front.

So we got spinaroonie here.

Come on in, guys.

- Ready?
- Oh.

That sure is pretty rock.

[man] That is rock.

Down, down, down.
We're clear.

[laughs]

It's a lot of grunt
now to you, Steve.

- All right.
- Get over there.

- Oh.
- Lift!

Don't get all rambunctious
on me now.

Perfect.

Holy smokes.

Whoo!

[Ward] It took everybody
in this house to lift

that thing up
and set it into place.

Ward, is it just me
or this rock seemed to be

getting heavier
and heavier every year.

[laughs]

[Ward] Once we got
that second piece in,

they did a wonderful job
of getting the veining
to weave in together and...

and look like
one piece of rock.

It looks stunning.

[Tamara] I'm at Beth
and Zack's house,

and I can't believe how well
the countertops turned out.

I'm here to stay
in the kitchen island,

and this island is massive,
and we want it to really pop.

So, I'm staining all of these
birch cabinets

with a dark walnut stain
to really give it that

richness that a house
like this deserves.

Steve.

[Steve] Hey.

You getting it?

- Ooh. Yeah.
- Look at that.

Well, we've to seal
her on, so.

- Okay.
- We're ready to stain.

What's going on here and here?

Well, this should be...

This is probably poplar,
and this might be pine,

but we've got a sealer on it.

So, in theory now...

[Tamara] In theory...

It should match up.

In reality, will it?

You know,
this is a big bathroom
and this is a large vanity.

It's a huge part
of the overall design
of the bathroom

and a lot of visual impact.

And it needs to be right.

[Steve] I don't know if...
Oh-oh.

Look at this. Keep going.

[Tamara] That looks green
and that looks brown.

[Steve] Ah. That's what
it looks like to me, too.

Now, was this slated
to be painted?

- No.
- Always stained.

Always stained.

Wonder why
they did it that way.

- Look at that.
- Ah, yeah, yeah.

Well, let's stain
the whole thing
and then get him in here.

Okay.

[Steve] That's turning...

Some of that's turning
black and green.

[Tamara] Yeah,
that looks terrible.

Oh.

Oh, jeez.

What? What?

That did have more to fix
'cause this is a different

kind of wood than this is.

And if this is getting stained
like it's supposed to,

they need to rebuild
this whole top.

Now we have three
different colors of wood.

So, we've got to find
a solution.

Okay. So, the way I see it,
there's a couple of options.

Rebuild this whole box
and replace those.

Or we could paint the wood.

Oh.

I have a feeling
it's gonna be painted.

[Tamara] I always like
to leave behind a special gift
for my clients.

So today I'm going
to a trophy shop.

I want to do some really cool
whiskey glasses

for Zack and Beth's house.

And I thought putting
their initials on it would be

just the right touch
that would make it

a little something extra
for their house.

- Hi. How's it going?
- It's great.
How are you doing?

Doing good. Did you get
all the artwork I sent over?

Got it all. We're ready.
We're ready to go.

- I got my glasses.
- You ready to do this?

I am. I'm ready to learn how.

- Let's make it happen.
- Okay.

- Here's where we're gonna
do some set up.
- Okay.

This is the machine
that's gonna make it happen.

- Okay.
- And...

- This is just like,
lift it up?
- It does.

And then we set this
in here is my guess.

[woman] Yes, we do.

- This is the art
that we set up.
- [Tamara] Yep.

It looks
a little small right here,

but we can zoom in
if you wanted to do...

You'd scale it
the way we want.

No, that looks good.

- It's very mesmerizing.
- [woman] I know.

[Tamara] So, it's basically
like a printer,

except instead of ink,
it's a diamond carving it
into the glass.

[woman] Perfect.
Looks good to me.

While you do the tester.

- There you go.
- [Tamara] There we go.

[woman] Oh, I love it.

I mean, that looks
pretty perfect to me.

One done.

I think Zack and Beth
are gonna love this.

They look so cool.

Definitely a nice little thing
to leave behind for them.

Steve,
how's it going in there?

Hey, Tamara. What's going on?

[Tamara] Oh,
I have a little project.

I stopped by Dad's shop today
to work with Steve on building

a breakfast tray
for Beth and Zack's bedroom.

Steve and I drew up
a plan where we've got
a little bit of a lip,

so your plates
don't slide off the tray,

but a little lip
on the underneath side

so that it hides
the legs and all
of the joint components.

Oh, easy peasy.

- That's what I thought.
- Oh.

A nice little something
to leave behind for them.

Neat.

Since these are bits
and pieces of wood

from all
the different cabinetry,

we've stained the whole body
of the red oak.

So, it all goes
together perfect.

- What do you think?
- I think it looks great.

[Tamara] I'm excited to be
able to give Beth and Zack

this tray
and their whiskey glasses

when we reveal the house.

Maybe back just...

like, ah, too far.

Beth and Zack's house
is finishing up.

Its staging day.

We've got a lot of work
still happening,
but we're almost there.

So, let's get the foot
right on the line there.

Right in front
of the line there.

I want it to feel cozy
and inviting and a space

that they want to hang out in,
not a space that
just looks pretty.

- Yeah, that feels better.
- Yeah.

I like that.

Because of the dark walls,
I wanted to make sure

we got light couches
and some light accessories

to really brighten things up.

The dark, dark walls really
make a great backdrop

for everything else to pop.

Beautiful.

- I could take a nap.
- Yeah.

Let's do it.

- [laughing]
- I wish.

But one room down,
a couple more to go.

[woman] Yeah.

[Tamara] This reno is done.

And just a few
finishing touches

before I can invite
Beth and Zack over
to see our progress.

This is gonna be fun.

[Beth] I am so excited.

The exterior of Beth
and Zack's traditional home

was already
in pristine condition.

Sometimes a little pop
of color is all you need

to plus up the appeal
of your property.

The house was in great shape,
but the front door
was feeling a little bare.

So, I decided to add
the customary

to welcome Beth and Zack home.

[Zack] All right, here we go.

Welcome home.

- Oh, my gosh.
- Oh, my goodness.

This is incredible.

When I first walked
into this home,

all I saw was pink
with more pink.

Zack was over it,
and it wasn't Beth style
at all.

So, I chose a jewelry box blue
in a semi-gloss enamel

for all the walls
and down the hallway.

This is the perfect color.

- It matches your shirt, Zack.
- It does.

- You look lovely in here.
- Yes, you match the room.

I somehow knew. I don't know.

[Tamara] And you couldn't miss
that crystal chandelier.

With the tall ceilings,
it really filled the space

and was an
impressive statement.

It just needed
a better backdrop.

I love how it glitters
on the walls.

That is awesome.

So now when you walk in
the door,

you're met
with the perfect mix

of traditional
and contemporary
design elements.

I wanted to leave
a little something special
for you guys.

And so, for this entryway,
I actually painted
this piece for you guys.

Thank you so much.
That is looking great.

- That's awesome.
- Thank you.

- That is so neat.
- You're welcome.

Okay. Are you ready
to see the next space?

- Yes.
- Oh, we are ready.

All right. Come on in.

- I love the bold color.
- I do, too.

[Beth] That was something
this room was missing before.

So, the great room
initially was not so great.

More pink walls,
white trim and yellow drapes.

So, we completely transform
this room
into a luxurious parlor.

And now it feels extravagant,
but comfortable
at the same time.

The trim in this room
was original,

and it was the best part
of this room.

You decided to paint
all the walls
in a dark blue tone

with a high gloss enamel
to really make it shine.

And I love the wallpaper
on the ceiling.

[Zack] That is great.

[Tamara] Isn't that fun?

Before the ceiling
was just basic white.

So, we decided to add
some gold and white wallpaper

to the ceiling to round out
the transitional glam elegance

we were going for.

The original fireplace
was truly an eyesore

in the middle of the room.

It had the green tile
on the hearth and the face.

And that brassy gold insert.

So, I gave the fireplace
the facelift that it needed.

We painted the mantel
a soft pewter gray
to complement the blue,

then added a marble tile
in a soft white,

gray and beige
to really finish it off.

[Beth] Yeah,
the fireplace is perfect.

It's definitely an upgrade
from where we were
from that green.

[Tamara]
Now the focal point
of the room

is the sophisticated fireplace.

It's perfect for this
contemporary room.

My overall design plan
for the parlor was to give it

a cozy and glam look that Zack
and Beth would love.

This is now a space
that they're gonna sit
and enjoy reading,

playing games, and just
having some family time.

With all the changes
we've made,
this room really delivers.

I'm excited to see the rest.

I'm excited to show you.

- You want to see
your family room?
- Yes, please.

- [Beth] Yeah.
- All right.

Come on in.

Oh, my goodness, Zack.

Wow.

There's so much
to take in right now.

There's a lot
happening in here.

[Zack] This is fantastic.

The family room had a cabinet
that was wasted space.

Originally, it would have
been for a big box TV,

but it didn't fit
for Zack's modern plan.

So, we opened it up
and created a functional,
recessed nook,

creating a depth
that's perfect
for watching TV.

And we added some
textural gray wallpaper

to the space to give it
some dimension.

Now we have a really
intentional spot

that feels like it should be
the television area.

[Beth] Yeah.

[Tamara] And really makes this
a cozy sitting area for you.

But then right across,
we have a dry bar.

[Zack] Yay!

[Tamara] It's no longer wet,
but you do have a wine fridge,

which you didn't before.

- And...
- There you go, honey.

...a whole lot more
storage and...

Yeah. It's taller.
That's awesome.

- I wouldn't have
thought of that.
- Yeah, it looks a lot taller.

Originally, we had a wet bar
that was terribly dated,

so we opened up the space,
raising the ceiling,

making it a perfect backdrop
for two sconces,

some black
and brass open shelving

and custom cabinetry topped
with the same marble
as the kitchen.

And we added the same
textural gray wallpaper

to tie everything together
in this family room.

And before it felt kind of
just like an afterthought.

And this is more
of a focal piece, which...

- Yeah.
- ...that's... that's great.

So, I wanted to leave you
something special.

And I went
and had these glasses

all hand etched for you...

- Oh, my goodness.
- Oh, my gosh.

...with your initials.

[Zack] That is awesome.

[Tamara] 'Cause I knew
how much you enjoyed whiskey.

And so, we also got you
a decanter.

So, we designed this,
etched it in,

and wanted to leave that
for you guys, too.

- I love that.
- That is so thoughtful.

- Thank you.
- Thank you.

- You're welcome.
- [Beth] Such a nice
personal touch.

So, Zack, I knew
how much you like stone.

So, I gave you all the stone
we could possibly give you.

[Zack] There is stone everywhere.

- [Beth] There is.
- [Zack] Yes. This is awesome.

Originally, the kitchen
was really boxed in

and had a teeny tiny island.

We completely reconfigure
the kitchen and added

an extra long island that goes
nearly the length of the room.

What I love
is you've got
the serving potential,

seating, and you can actually
cook in here.

- Yes.
- Instead of your
electric stovetop...

I mean, your old island
was right about here...

- Yeah.
- ...and it was right
about this big.

We have this 16 foot island.

[Zack] Sixteen?

[Tamara] 16 feet,
and it's two full slabs
of marble.

[Zack] Wow.

[Tamara] That is this
beautiful white marble

with the gray striations that
I think just helps make it

feel even longer
and more massive.

This is so pretty.

And it looks so pretty
with all the light
back there, too.

- [Zack] Yeah, it does.
- [Beth] I love this kitchen.

We wrap the room
in white cabinetry
with gold hardware

and then made the island
the statement piece

of the room
with a dark walnut stain

and beautiful slab countertop
the entire length.

Like it just feels...

- like you can move
around in it.
- Absolutely.

And you're not blocked
every time you try to move.
I love it.

I'm just amazed
because it's such

a huge upgrade
and we didn't have

to knock out any walls
or do anything like that.

I mean, you just
completely transformed this.

This is... this is perfect.

[Beth] Yes.

Before, the kitchen
was terribly dated

with red tiles
for the backsplash,

white appliances
and electric stove top.

So, we replaced
all of the appliances.

So now Beth
has a proper cooktop.

Beth and Zack had only a few
can lights in the ceiling

and nothing decorative.

So, I put in three
gold leaf lantern fixtures

for a modern twist
on a traditional design.

Because it's such
a nice long island,

I wanted to make sure
that you got plenty of light

and made a real statement.

They're big,
but they're not too heavy.

- I love them.
- Correct.

Nice and light,
but really bright.

Yes.

I think those also make
a statement. I love that.

- That is...
- They do.

- That's...
- Those are perfect.

- Very elegant.
- Yes.

Wow.

[Tamara] Next up,
it's your new
main bedroom suite.

- You guys ready for it?
- Oh, yes.

I can't believe it will be
better than this, though, so.

Yeah.

My design goal for this
1993 traditional home

was to create
a transitional glam
feeling throughout the space.

All right, let's check out
your main suite.

All right. Come on in.

- Oh, my gosh.
- Wow.

- I love this.
- Look at this.

- Oh, wow.
- This is gonna be great.

Originally, the main bedroom
was horrible.

It was purple
and had massive floral drapes.

None of this was fitting
with Beth and Zack style.

So, we started
with getting rid of the purple

and painting it a nice,
relaxing gray.

Then I chose a floral inspired
wallpaper that would create

a calming environment
in the space.

You had such a great ceiling
with all of the dimension

to it that I felt like putting
this paper on the ceiling
was the way to go.

[Zack] It almost looks
like paint.

I mean, it doesn't even
look like paper.

It looks like
a watercolor over there.

[Tamara] That's exactly
how I would describe it.

Before, the bedroom
had a plain white
ceiling fan and no light.

So, I decided to repurpose
the crystal chandelier

from the dining room
and amp up that

elegance in the bedroom.

There was no light
in the bedroom

other than some directional
can lights that really serve
no purpose.

I decided to add arabesque
shaped pendant lights

left and right of the bed
to give even more glam

and elegance to this bedroom.

[Beth] I love those.

- This is so great.
- Yeah.

It feels so big.

- [Tamara] It is so big.
- [Zack] But also...
but also cozy.

When I first saw this bedroom,
it was like '80s overkill.

And this house was built
in the '90s,

so it was out of style
when they started.

We have changed everything
in the space,

making it exactly what Beth
and Zack were looking for
in a soft,

calming environment
with little touches of glam

and elegance throughout.

So, I figured that
since this is such a nice,

relaxing space, you'd want
to have breakfast
in bed every day.

And so, Steve and I made you
this breakfast tray...

- [Zack] Aw.
- [Beth] Oh, wow.

[Tamara] ...that you could use
for your coffee

while you're reading
and just hanging out.

That's perfect.

I envision a lot
of lazy mornings
in here for sure.

[Tamara laughs]

All right. You ready
to see the bathroom?

- Yes.
- Yeah.

Okay.

Right.

Let you take a peek
at your new main bathroom.

Oh, my goodness. Look at this.

Wow.

Look at that shower.

[Beth] That is incredible.

Beth and Zack's main bathroom
was original to the house,

and definitely time
for an upgrade.

We replaced the vanities
with custom cabinetry

painted in a charcoal black.

We topped the custom vanity
with a beautiful porcelain

countertop that climbs
the wall.

It looks like
there's like a big piece

of stone
just sitting on there.

I love that.

- [Tamara] I knew you would.
- [laughing]

[Beth] And I love
all the storage.

[Zack] Yeah.

For the floor, we installed
a large scale gray tile

with subtle veining throughout.

Then we created
a larger shower

with chevron patterned
floor tile

and slabs running up the wall.

That is awesome.

All the way up the ceiling
and down the walls.

[Zack] I don't know
why we'll ever leave.

- And look at that.
That's beautiful.
- [Beth] I know.

We have everything we need.

The old built in tub
had seen better days.

So, we replaced it
with a freestanding soaker tub

that Beth is gonna love.

Before, there was wallpaper
on all the walls.

It was so old,
it was disintegrating.

So, we removed
all the wallpaper and painted

a rich white on all the walls.

Lastly, we added two aged
brass pendants to the vanity.

Beth and Zack wanted
their bathroom to have

an overall spa like vibe.

Wrapping the room in slabs
of porcelain created a cozy
and luxe retreat.

All right.
That's your main suite.

- I hope you love it.
- We do.

- This is awesome.
- It is very nice.

Well, are you ready
to invite some friends over?

Yeah. Let's get to it.

- Hi, guys.
- Come on in.

Oh, gosh.

Oh, my gosh.

This is gorgeous.

I love the blue
and the ceiling.

Yeah, the contrast
from like the light blue
to the... the dark color.

That's really cool.

My first impression
of the house

was it really just
came back to life.

There's a whole
lot more energy

with all the new color
in the house.

It's not pink everywhere.

There's a whole lot of color
and a whole lot of energy.

This is a beautiful fireplace.

[man] Beautiful.

I love the tiling here.
That's awesome.

Tamara did a fantastic job
of bringing some new ideas

to the house and really
bringing it to life.

And I think
she really delivered
on waking the place up.

We're very happy
with how the house turned out.

Oh, my gosh. I love this.

- Isn't this gorgeous?
- It's huge.

[man] I know.
It's so length...

I don't even know,
like 20 people or something.

I know.

My favorite thing in the house
has to be all the stone.

And in particular, the island.

It's great.
It's... it's grand,
and it's everything I wanted.

Look at how big
this island is.

You can hold 100 people here.

[woman] The woodworking
with the granite, I love it.

[Beth] We are so excited
to have friends over

to gather around
this huge island,

to have our own kids
around it every night.

It's something that we love
and something

that we'll use all the time.

It's perfect for us.

Oh, my gosh.

[woman] Wow.

- [woman 1] This is gorgeous.
- [man] Whoa.

I feel like Tamara
really pushed us out
of our comfort zone and...

and... and looking at things
that we probably

wouldn't have thought
of before.

Look at these.

Okay, this was very
old school before.

This is so much more modern.

This is so nice.

I love it. Look at...
Love the windows behind us.

Yeah.

Have a little coffee here
in the morning.

Cozy up with a book at night.

This is the home
of our dreams.

This is what we envisioned
when we thought of a place

that's cozy for us
and our girls
and our growing family.

And it's just perfect.
It's a home of our dreams.

[Tamara] All right.

Well, Beth and Zack,
it has been so much fun

to do your house, the color,
the personality.

I think we've really
brought your fun to life.

I hope you love it
for years to come.

Thank you.

- We will.
- Thanks a lot.

- Cheers.
- Cheers.

[Tamara] We spent $150,000
on renovations for this house.

With an initial purchase price
of 870,000,

that's an investment of just
over one million dollars.

With a potential resale value
of 1.3 million.

My goal for Beth
and Zack's home was to create

that perfect balance
between traditional

and modern contemporary
that suits their lifestyle now

and for years to come.
