[Tamara]
Well, let's get after it.
All over Kansas City,
there are neglected mansions
that can be bought
for a bargain.
The worse they start,
the better they end.
It just takes
a little imagination
and a whole lot of hard work
to bring these tired
houses back to life.
This is fabulous.
[man] Oh, wow.
[Tamara] With my dad,
Ward, by my side,
It's so beautiful. I like it.
[Tamara]
We're helping clients design
and transform these houses...
- I'm in heaven.
- [chuckles]
[man] I love it!
[Tamara] ...into stunning
forever homes.
I'm in South Leawood,
which is about as far south
as you can go
in the metro Kansas City area.
And the houses out here
are in great neighborhoods
and people stay here
a really long time
and they don't sell.
So, when you find one
that's a good deal,
you've gotta scoop it up.
I'm not surprised this
homeowner found this one
and decided to take it on.
The problem is Christie
bought this house,
got into the demo
and is just overwhelmed.
So, I'm coming in
to help Christie
with her house and get it
over the finish line.
Hey, Christie, how's it going?
[Christie] Hey, how are you?
[Tamara] Good.
It's so good to see you.
[Christie] You, too.
Oh, my gosh,
I can't wait to see this.
- [Christie] I'm so excited.
- [Tamara] Right?
My name is Christie Glenn
and I live in Overland Park, Kansas.
I was born and raised here.
I have driven by this
house for years.
Loved it. Thought it
was amazing.
My vision of, like,
the perfect home.
My husband passed away
and my daughters,
Logan and Grace and I
just wanted a fresh start.
So, I was wanting
to do something
that would make them feel that
we were in a new place
with a new outlook on life.
So, this house
came on the market.
I fell in love with it,
they fell in love with it.
The timing was great.
So, when we first
walked in the house,
it was very, very choppy,
and so the first thing
I wanted to do was open it up.
Once I did that,
I kind of got overwhelmed
and wasn't sure of how
to lay everything out.
So, having Tamara come
in and help with all that
is very important to me.
Can't wait to see
what she does with it.
[Tamara] The outside
of the house is really pretty.
I love the outside
and that's what drew
me to it originally.
[Tamara] This home
is a four-bedroom, four-bath
traditional stone house
built in 1973.
It's 4,600 square feet
over two levels.
Christie purchased the house
for about $720,000,
which is a great price
for a neighborhood
where most homes are
well into the 900s.
And she set aside a budget
of $300,000 for renovations.
Tell me, what are you
thinking for the house?
[Christie]
Wanting it to be light.
So, we just need to come
up with a color palette.
There's a lot of colors
going on here.
[Christie] I would like
it to be one color,
and then maybe
highlighting the shutters
with a different color.
Okay. All of this
landscaping done.
I can imagine lots
of great plants out here.
- It's going to be fantastic.
- [Christie] Yeah.
[Tamara] I'm excited
to see what's inside.
- Let's go take a peek.
- [Christie] Okay.
[Tamara] Oh, my gosh.
The outside is stunning,
but this is exciting.
[Christie] It is awesome.
[Tamara] There's
so much potential here.
The first floor of this house
has a living room, a kitchen,
and an informal dining room
plus a mudroom off the garage.
I love this intentional
space right here.
This feels really nice
and comfortable.
It looks like you've
vaulted this already.
[Christie] Yes,
it was low ceiling,
and we just wanted
it to be open.
[Tamara]
This is a perfect spot
- for a beautiful
entryway light.
- [Christie] Yes.
Right here,
this feels like a cozy
little sitting area.
I mean, great wall
for a statement piece of art.
I just want it
to be comfortable and cozy.
So, that's what
I'm thinking in here.
[Tamara] Oh, my gosh,
the floors are great!
- I hope we can
refinish these...
- [Christie] Yeah.
[Tamara] ...and do it
throughout the entire area.
It'll look gorgeous.
- Yeah, absolutely.
- Okay, so what about in here?
These are new
headers, it looks like.
- [Christie] So,
we took out walls...
- [Tamara] 'Kay.
- ...so, we had to bring
these huge beams in...
- Yes.
- ...to support...
- [Tamara] Everything.
[Christie] We've
completely opened it up.
So much better.
This is an amazing space.
- I'm guessing this is kitchen.
- [Christie] Absolutely.
[Tamara] Family area,
it's really dark in here,
but I'm envisioning
a lot of light
coming into this space,
big fireplace.
So, it looks like you've
taken the fireplace out.
The original one wasn't really
the taste that I'm going for.
What I would like
to do is just do
a really pretty mantel.
I just want it to be something
for the holidays
we can decorate.
We always like
to have a fire going,
- so, I want this to be
kind of a focus point.
- Mmm-hmm. Okay.
If we're taking all this out,
let's start from scratch
and not have a hearth
that's built up...
- Absolutely. I agree.
- ...take it all
the way to the floor
and make it just as big
of a firebox as you can.
[Christie] Love that.
I like the flow
through 'cause, I mean,
you're going to be sitting
here watching shows,
sitting by the fire,
but then you've got
the kitchen right off it,
so, while you're
fixing dinner...
Right, so, I'm not removed.
Yeah, you're still
a part of everything.
Assuming a big Island.
[Christie] Yes, big island
to entertain with,
but I don't want
anything in it.
Great workspace for prep,
all that kind of stuff
- and just sitting,
hanging out.
- Yes.
So, I mean,
you can easily get...
...four, maybe even
five seats here.
- [Christie] Yes.
- Who is it you're cooking for?
My mom is Italian.
She cooked nonstop
for everybody.
If you came to our house,
you had to eat.
- So I kind of want
to be the same way.
- Right.
That's how I have
instilled it with my girls.
- And that's what we do.
- And they cook with you.
- [Christie] Yeah.
- That's so fun.
So, let's talk about
the placement of everything.
We've got this whole
back wall, that's huge.
- We're thinking
maybe a sink there.
- [Christie] Yes.
I would love my kitchen
sink under the window.
We have a huge backyard,
so, I want to be able
to look out, see that.
[Tamara]
Man, with the plywood covering
the windows on the back,
- it is super dark
in here right now.
- [Christie] Yes.
[Tamara] I can't
wait to pull that off
and put a new window and see
that beautiful backyard.
[Christie]
And other than that,
I'm up for whatever
your thoughts are.
[Tamara] We'll start
in the entryway by refinishing
the Brazilian
cherry floors throughout.
In the living room,
we'll give the fireplace
a stucco treatment
that will go all the way
up to the ceiling,
and we'll finish it off
with a new mantel.
For the kitchen,
we'll rack the two walls
with custom cabinets
topped with Italian
marble countertops.
Then we'll place
a large island
in the center of the room
and top it off
with two elegant
gold pendant lights.
Let's talk about this
beautiful mud space.
- Absolutely.
- This is huge.
[Christie] Yes,
we added that, actually.
[Tamara] Yeah, it's awesome.
Like, for such a big house
to not have a mud space.
So many people
coming in and out,
you don't want all
the clutter out there.
- You want to bring it in here.
- [Christie] Right.
[Tamara] Have you ever
thought about using this
as the mud space on one side,
like a little mini
office on the other?
[Christie] That would
be a great idea.
- Absolutely.
- Let's see the dining room.
[Christie] This is where
I envision the kitchen table
because it's obviously
right off of the kitchen.
- [Tamara] Right.
- [Christie] Easy access.
- [Tamara] So casual dining.
- [Christie] Very casual.
[Tamara] And then
this is extra cool.
[Christie] Okay.
I absolutely adore this.
- Okay. Awesome.
- [Christie] I love it.
I think it's got
so much charm,
- just a conversation piece.
I think it's precious.
- [Tamara] I love that.
You've envisioned yourself
here your whole life,
so let's make it your dream.
We have $200,000
for phase one of this project,
which includes
the main living areas
plus the exterior
of this property.
My plan is to get it
done in eight weeks.
[drill machine whirring]
[Tamara] Oh,
that's a pretty window.
I'm here
with my contractor, John.
Since Christie has
already demoed the house,
our first project
will be getting
the new window
installed in the kitchen.
I am so excited to see
this actually in place.
[man 1] Oh, we're hitting
some rock over here.
[Tamara] Do you need me...
give me a knife.
[man 2] What's
he running, dry wall?
[man 1] Yeah.
What, is it fitting on this
end and not this end?
Are we going to pull it down?
[man 1] One, two, three.
Let's bring it down,
and shift it to...
Just like with everything
else in construction,
sometimes things happen
and the hole is too small
for the window.
[banging]
[man 1] Okay. It'll go now.
We good?
[man 2] Yep, yep.
- One, two...
- Yep.
[banging]
Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
Okay.
- I think this looks amazing.
- It looks great.
Okay, but now that I'm
looking out this window,
I see a problem.
So, we've got a center
window that's nice and big
with mullions here
and we've got side
windows with mullions here.
The factory just
made a mistake,
which it can replace.
What we do is we actually
pop this piece of glass out
and can put it in one end.
What if I wanted to pop
these pieces of glass out
and keep this one?
Because what I'm liking
is you're standing here
at the sink
then you're really
looking out through
a bigger piece of glass.
It would be easier for us
to be able to replace
the casement...
- [Tamara] The sides.
- ...as opposed to the middle.
All right, well, thank you.
- The light coming
in is so fantastic.
- [John] It's incredible.
[Tamara] Now that I'm working
on more projects with clients,
I like to take time
to sit down with them
and review key design
details along the way.
I'm so excited.
This is going to be such
a beautiful kitchen.
- How do you feel?
- [Christie] Love it.
Love the island.
Okay, well,
so let's talk about
the fun stuff.
- Color.
- Okay.
- Let me put my glasses
on and see if I can see this.
- [laughing]
I love the layout.
I feel like we want
to anchor the space
with some darker colors
on the lower cabinets.
How do you feel about green?
Like a deep hunter-ish
kind of green.
- Not green.
- [Tamara] Not green.
Okay. What if we went with,
like, a navy?
Almost charcoal-ish navy
so it's not bright blue,
but it has some depth to it.
Absolutely.
[Tamara] And having
the beam be that
beautiful oak wrap.
- I love it. Sounds good to me.
- We're good to go.
- Yay.
- [Christie] Thank you.
Absolutely.
This looks fun.
I really like
how smooth this is.
More smooth stucco Italian.
Oh, my God.
[Christie] It looks so good.
[Tamara] Hey, Nora!
Tom, are you coming down?
You want two waffles?
Weekdays are pretty
busy at our house,
so I try to spend
even just a few minutes
at breakfast with the family
each morning.
You can sit here
and eat your eggs
and do your math.
I got your breakfast
right over there.
How many times
does three go into six?
[Nora] Uh, two.
Do you have
any baseball today?
[boy] Next Thursday.
[Tamara] Uh, that'd be great.
I can get ready
and get to the house.
Okay, let's go.
- [Nora] Bye, mom.
- [Tamara] Bye,
love you. Bye.
My crew is making
tons of progress
on Christie's house.
The rest of the drywall
is going up in the living
room and kitchen.
And the kitchen cabinets
and island are here
and going into place.
Things are really
starting to take shape.
This is looking good.
Oh, my gosh.
I'm at Christie's house today,
and I have this
really awesome idea
for the fireplace.
I want the entire face
of it to be stucco.
I want it to feel
a little bit of warmth
and just a nice, soft,
clean look that's
classic and timeless.
- I went with too much blue...
- [John] Yep.
...to begin with,
but I really like
how smooth this is...
- Mmm-hmm.
- ...versus this one
we did more textured.
More smooth stucco Italian.
Exactly, so, I brought
this a little bit of blue.
It's still going
to look white,
but it has that
blue undertone that I think
will complement everything.
This looks fun. Let's see.
[machine whirring]
The style of this treatment
is more of an Italian look,
which is super
important to Christie
because she's Italian
and we wanted to really
tie this into her heritage.
It draws your eye in
from the front door
and is the focal point,
literally, in all areas
of the main floor.
This is looking really good.
Do you mind
if the guys finish it up?
I wanna talk to you
- about the hood
over here in the kitchen.
- Absolutely.
This house has such
an open concept to it
that I wanted it to feel
like the living room
and kitchen is just
all one big space.
So, I want to do
this exact same treatment
to this entire hood
and just make it feel
really beautiful
and all of it tied together.
- Okay. Perfect.
- Yeah.
It's working out really well.
- Christie's gonna love it.
- She's gonna love it.
[Tamara]
I'm here at True Grit.
They do all kinds of cabinetry
and cutting boards,
tabletops,
all kinds of fun stuff.
- I'm excited about
Christie's Kitchen.
- Yeah, I am, too.
- And that cabinet
for the root vegetables...
- Mmm-hmm.
[Tamara] I'm picking out
a grid pattern for the root
vegetable drawer
that I'm putting
underneath the hutch
in Christie's kitchen.
Organization is huge to her,
so having a dedicated drawer
just for root vegetables
is going to be fantastic.
Look at all the options.
I came up with this idea
because I constantly have
my onions and my potatoes
all sprouting roots,
and I bought this great jar
that has holes all over it
and it's keeping
everything from sprouting,
and so I thought,
what if you did this
in a drawer situation?
[Scott]
This is a little thicker.
- [Tamara] Oh,
it's a little heavier.
- [Scott] Yeah.
Like, got a better
weight to it.
I think this is the way to go.
- Okay, so we just need
to measure this up.
- Yep.
Let me put some glasses on.
[Scott] With your shears,
better be safe.
- Here we go.
- Yeah.
That's going to look awesome.
- It's going to look great.
- Okay.
It's perfect.
Construction's really moving
along at Christie's house.
We're adding oak
to the load-bearing beams
in the open space
to create continuity
with the kitchen cabinetry.
Meanwhile, the mudroom
is coming along
with a beautiful herringbone
brick pattern on the floor.
[Ward] Well, Tamara,
this house has a real
wow factor.
- Check this out.
- [Ward] Pretty sweet.
- [Tamara] Yeah.
- [Ward] Looks like
a lot's been done.
I brought dad over
to Christie's house
so I could put you to work,
but also to see the progress.
Sure, sure, sure.
I think the work was primary.
Mmm, it's just a bonus.
Well, it's kind of this
open concept flow through
- where everything ties nicely.
- [Ward] Sure.
So much natural
light coming in.
- [Ward] Oh, and this
back yard is gorgeous.
- [Tamara] Isn't it?
Well, I know you
didn't invite me
over here just to stand around
and talk about things.
So, what do you
have on your mind?
Well, there's a lot
of work to get done.
I got some painting outside,
if you don't mind?
- Let's go get it done.
- Okay.
- Well, you always need
your dad to just...
- I do.
...kind of help you
finish things, so...
[Tamara] Dad, I need some
music, will you sing for me?
[chuckling]
[Ward] What do you want?
Some Italian opera?
[Tamara] Well,
that makes sense here.
I can't paint and sing.
- You can't do both?
- I can't do both.
This front door
is really black
and it just doesn't match
with the whole exterior
plan that we have,
so getting that painted,
the shutters painted,
is one step closer
to the finish line.
It's all coming together.
- It's great.
- Why don't we
go to lunch?
Are you buying?
I won.
What did you win?
I finished first.
Not even comparable.
- And then I came
and helped you.
- Oh, my gosh.
[Tamara] You're the slowpoke.
[Ward] Oh,
you are something else.
[Tamara] Let's do this.
In all of my homes,
I love to feature artists.
More drawers
than you could imagine.
Oh, yeah.
I absolutely love it.
[Tamara]
Are you going on a picnic?
[Ward] I am going
out to the farm.
Work on a few
things out there.
Okay, well before you go,
can I have you do me a favor?
It's just a little one.
- [laughing]
- Little baby favor.
This is actually
an easy project.
I know your easy projects.
[Tamara] So, I found
this picture of Christie
- and her daughters
in the garage...
- Mmm-hmm.
...and I just thought it would
be a really nice thing to do
is frame a picture for her.
Basically, what my thought
was is we just take this
- and put it on top...
- Mmm-hmm.
...so it looks like this,
and then you could carve out,
like, a dado on the back
so that you could put
glass in it.
So, like, 20 minutes tops.
Twenty minutes at least.
At most.
- [laughing]
- At most, Dad.
I can get that done.
Okay, well,
they'll really appreciate it.
It means something
special to them.
Making a frame
is really pretty easy.
It's just cutting everything
into exact 45s,
making it fit together,
getting it glued
up so that it's really
square when you're done.
A picture frame like this
with a picture of Christie's
family in it
is just a personal touch
that Tamara likes to add
to every house that she does.
[Tamara] I came
prepared to paint.
So, you've got
everything tack clothed?
Yep, everything's vacuumed
and wiped down.
We're ready to go.
It's time to start painting
that island and I am dying
to see it,
and so I want to be
the one to put this on there.
This paint color was
one of those big decisions
for Christie.
She was hesitant to go
with a charcoal color
like this because it
is super bold,
but when she sees this done,
it's gonna blow her mind,
and what a great
choice it was.
Okay, this is looking good.
We'll let this dry and then
get the second coat on.
You guys can move on
to the drawers and cabinets.
[man] Let's do it.
[Tamara] The countertops
are getting installed today.
When you're putting
in a countertop
that has a waterfall edge,
it is so important
to have an installer
that can really get those
corners nice and tight,
keep the vein matching
from the top all the way
down the side.
But that means getting
a cut that meets perfectly,
filling in all of that seam
with an epoxy, letting it dry,
and then sanding
and buffing it down
to perfection.
It makes it look like
one giant slab that
just fell to the floor.
This looks good.
[machine whirring]
[Tamara] Wow!
What a beautiful slab.
It's all hands on deck
right now.
It's little bits here,
little bits there,
and while I'm here,
and I've also got
a little spot of wallpaper
that I want to get installed
and just keep
knocking things out.
This whole space is, like,
mud space, workspace.
It really functions
for multiple things,
and so I want it to be a fun
space that functions well.
So, we did a herringbone
floor out of brick
and then all of these
great cabinets.
And it's beautiful
with this wallpaper.
[Chantell] Hi!
[Tamara] Hi, it's so
good to see you.
- Welcome, nice to see
you again.
- How's it going?
- Good.
- Is it your first time
in this place?
It is, this is amazing.
I'm in the West Bottoms
down here at Convivial,
getting ready to find
just the perfect piece
for Christie's house.
- Can we go peek around
and see what we can make?
- Yes, let's take a peek.
[Tamara] I really like this.
It feels a little modern.
It feels traditional
at the same time.
Let's do this.
One of my favorite things
is when I get to actually
get my hands dirty
and make something.
And seeing the process
of making these spaces,
is such a cool thing.
Okay, so now that
you've poured the slip
into the mold,
- we're going to let it sit
for about 10 minutes...
- Okay.
...and then we're
gonna come back to it
and deplete the excess
slip from the mold.
In all of my homes,
I use a ton of artwork,
but I love to feature artists,
and knowing where it comes
from just makes it
even more special.
[Chantell] You can see
now the form is inside.
[Tamara] You can get
something handmade
just for you right
here in Kansas City.
- This is when you start
thinking about life and...
- Yes!
Spending some time
with your thoughts.
[chuckling]
[Tamara] Okay.
So we're going
to glaze it, fire it,
and get it all ready
for Christie's home.
All right. Sounds good.
Like, a hair up.
Things are flying
over at Christie's house.
The lights are going in.
Appliances are getting put in.
Before you know it,
we're gonna have
all of the furniture
put in place,
and let her see
the end result.
Hey, John, how do you
think this looks?
- [Tamara] It's coming
together, right?
- [John] Yeah.
[Tamara] Beautiful.
I think it might
be a little too big.
Let's get the couches
in and then I'll see
what we've got.
[woman] Okay.
Phase one of Christie's
house is almost done.
I'm here with my crew,
and we're getting
all the staging
finished up for her.
Perfect.
A calm, neutral palate
was really important
to Christie,
but wanted a few pops as well,
and so the island
is really that beautiful
color for the entire space.
So, I need to tie that
together with the rugs,
the artwork and all
the pillows, furnishings
because from the front
door all the way through,
you see it all.
Well, this feels good.
But I'm not loving
that art up there.
Why don't we move the mirror
that we were gonna put
in the entry and swap 'em?
Now it's just those
finishing details
that we need to put together,
and then I'm ready
to show this to Christie.
I'm liking it.
I'm dying to show you
your main bathroom.
[Christie] Oh!
Oh, wow!
[Tamara] It's been
eight weeks,
and phase one renovations
on Christie's home are complete.
We've staged the main living
areas of the home
so that Christie and her
daughters can get a sense
of what their new home
is going to feel like.
I'm ready to give them
a peek at the progress.
I can't wait for them
to come by and see
the finished space.
When I first saw
this property,
it was clear it needed
a little TLC.
Changing the color
of the entire exterior,
adding some beautiful
greenery and flowers,
we've changed the entire
vibe of this entryway.
So now it draws your eye
all the way from the street
to the front door.
- [daughter 1] My gosh!
- [Christie] How much
better does it look?
I like how the garage
doors are white and not
brown or that faux stain.
[daughter 1] And the shutters.
[Christie] So cute. I love it.
My goal with this
1973 stone house
is to give Christie
and her daughters
a new lease on life
in this home renovation
that she's dreamed
of for years.
[daughter 1] Are you
ready to go in?
[Christie] Oh, my God.
I can't wait.
[daughter 2] Oh, my Gosh.
I can't wait.
[Tamara] Hi. How are you?
- [Christie] Good, how are you?
- [Tamara] So good to see you.
[daughter 1] Oh, my God!
[woman 2] Oh, my God!
[Christie] Wow!
When I walked in, I could
see it's already gutted
and stuff is started
to come back together,
but Christie brought me in
to take it the rest of the way
and finish it up right.
My gosh!
It looks so good.
- [daughter 1] Isn't it great?
- [Christie] Oh, my God.
It's beautiful. It really is.
[Tamara] We took this
entryway from basic...
...to beautiful with some
new light fixtures,
a hanging chandelier
in the entryway,
some really fantastic
trim work.
With such an open concept,
I really wanted
to define this space
as a sitting area
where Christie could sit
and enjoy the view
of her beautiful front yard
and wait for her girls
to come home.
Okay, just wanted to bring
a little something special
from Kansas City to your home,
and I went down to a little
shop that's called Convivial,
and actually made
these vases for you
because they remind me
of the whole house.
There's three, three flowers.
One for each of us.
[Christie] Okay, that's cute.
[Tamara] It has a little
something special from me.
[daughter 1] Thank you.
And remember, you know,
all the work that we've done.
[Christie] I love that.
- The house sprouted.
- [Tamara] It did.
They're precious.
- [daughter 1] Oh, my God.
- Thank you!
- Well, let me show
you the living room.
- Okay.
This room is huge.
When I first walked
into this space,
this living room left
a lot to be desired.
I could see
they'd already started
with knocking out
a couple of walls
and opening it up
to give it an open
concept feeling.
And now all of this
kind of ties together.
We've got that creamy, soft,
white running throughout this
whole main space.
[Christie] Fireplace
is absolutely breathtaking.
I knew that the fireplace
was going to be
a huge focal point
of this space,
and we needed to do
something really special,
so, we covered it
in a beautiful traditional
Italian style stucco.
Putting that mantle
across the top
that has a little rustic vibe
made all the difference.
The mantel matches the beams.
The beams are phenomenal.
[Tamara]
Aren't they beautiful?
[Christie] The floor,
such an amazing color.
These dark Brazilian
cherry floors
felt really heavy,
with this refinishing,
we muted the color
and it's still the anchor
to the space
with all the bright walls
and soft furnishings
just without that
heavy feeling to them.
Who wants to go
in the kitchen?
- Me!
- Let's do it! I'm in.
[Christie] That is fabulous.
I love, how much
space there is
so there's no congestion.
Christie loves to entertain
and the kitchen is
the heart of her home.
She loves to cook
with her big Italian family
surrounding this giant island
and furniture grade cabinetry
on one end
with this beautiful hutch,
it really anchors
the end of the kitchen.
Calacatta quartz countertops
running across the back wall
and then more fabulous
built-in cabinetry.
I feel like this is
the kitchen that she's
always dreamed of.
So, I wanted to make
sure that you had
more drawers than
you could imagine.
- Oh my gosh.
- Oh, yeah.
And we'll fill those.
Every inch.
[Christie] Oh, my gosh,
I love that color.
[Tamara] Storage
was a huge piece
of the planning
for this kitchen,
so we made this island
really functional
with drawers on the front
and the back
and hid as many
of the appliances
as we possibly could.
And this dark navy
color on the island
feels a little charcoaly,
a little navy.
and very interesting,
especially with the beautiful
gold hardware
and stunning glass
and brass pendant lights
over it.
We also kept that countertop
perfectly smooth,
water falling
all the way to the floor.
Let's talk about that window.
Every morning, you're going
to be washing dishes
with all of this
natural light coming in.
It's fantastic.
Between this
and all of the lights,
it's a changed house.
When I first saw
the kitchen space,
it was very dark.
and she had already
asked her contractor
to put a huge window
in the space,
which I think was
a stroke of brilliance
because that backyard
and the light pouring
into this kitchen
changes everything.
I'm really excited
about something else.
I want you to go take
a peek in the mudroom.
[Christie] The floor
with the paint,
it's amazing.
For this multi-function space,
we went with a soft,
gray blue cabinet color
and a pop of wallpaper
over the custom-made bench
so that you've got
a space that has
a little bit of vibrancy
flanking that gorgeous window.
Oh, my gosh, a picture of us.
[Tamara] I found this picture
of you guys out in the garage.
So my dad built the frame
and I gilded it,
and so we just wanted
that to be a special
little thing...
- You're so sweet!
- ...for you guys to remember
when we're long gone.
- I love that.
- I love that.
That is such a special touch.
[Tamara] Enjoy every
morning while you're
sitting at your desk.
Okay, let me show you
the dining room.
- [daughter 1] Oh, my gosh.
- [Christie] Wow.
- Right?
- Oh, my.
Oh, my God, I love it!
[Christie] I love
this countertop.
[daughter 2] Oh, my Gosh!
I love it. It's amazing.
So I gave this casual
dining room a refresh
then added a beautiful wet bar
with gorgeous metallic
glam tile in the back.
I love the fireplace.
[Tamara] This is one
of those spaces
that originally was outdated
and needed to be revived.
We gave the fireplace a reface
with a fresh coat of paint
and this crisp mantle
to wrap around it,
bringing a little bit of life
back to this fireplace.
A casual dining room.
- We definitely
aren't the formal type.
- [laughing]
So, this is us.
This works great.
[Tamara] Well,
I can't tell you
how excited I am that
you guys love phase one.
I cannot wait to get
started on phase two.
I can't wait.
Have at it, sister.
[Tamara] All right,
we'll make it happen for you.
The phase one transformation
of the main living spaces
and the exterior
are completed.
My overall reno budget
for this property
was $300,000.
I spent $200,000
on the phase one renovations
leaving me
with $100,000 for my plans
in the main suite
for phase two.
I plan to get it done
in four weeks.
[Tamara] Oh, my goodness.
Okay, so we're ready to start
on the whole main suite.
For phase two, we're focusing
on the main bedroom
and the main bathroom
of Christie's house.
And what a great main suite.
[Christie] Perfect size.
You know, this room
is really a great blank slate.
I love all of this trim.
[Christie] I love the trim,
I want to keep that.
[Tamara] Awesome.
And then what about
the wall color?
- How do you feel about it?
- I'd like to change it.
[Tamara] Okay. I'm with you.
How do you feel
about wallpaper?
I love wallpaper.
- I love that idea.
- [Tamara] Okay.
So I'm kind of feeling
like this is a space that
could cozy up with some paper.
Already has great
can lighting,
the hardwoods look awesome.
We're going to just
finish this the same
as we did out there.
- [Christie] Yes.
- What about the barn door?
[Christie] I love it.
I want to keep it.
- I think it saves space,
number one...
- Yes.
...but also, I just
think that it's cute
and it goes with the charm
because it was original.
I really like the circle.
- I think that's a really
a nice detail.
- [Christie] Love it.
[Tamara] Okay, well,
I mean, this is a great
starting point,
but I have a feeling
the bathroom's not
quite so easy.
[Christie] No.
And I will need your,
your opinion on all of that.
- I can't wait
to see this.
- Okay.
[Tamara] Wow,
okay, private toilet.
[Christie] Yes.
[Tamara] Look at this!
Really beautiful space.
Tons of potential.
I love the corner shower.
So much other space,
I'm guessing the tub's
going to go right here.
- Some vanity.
- [Christie] No.
No, I'm not a tub
person. No tub.
No, why?
You know what,
I don't use 'em,
and I just kind
of want it for storage.
I think it's such
a great area space
and the window,
I think we could
do something else.
If you're not going to use
the tub, you don't need a tub.
Organization key in here.
How about mirrors?
Do you want sheet mirrors?
[Christie] I want
something more,
- I want some more character.
- Interesting.
What are you thinking
for the floor?
I would like some
sort of a pattern.
[Tamara] What do you think
about a hexagon pattern?
Love it.
[Tamara] In the main bedroom,
we'll refresh the walls
with a soothing neutral
gray color and we'll add
a decorative trim element
to surround
the inlaid ceiling.
For the main bathroom,
we'll install a custom vanity
on each wall with even more
storage underneath the window
and an arched corner shower.
Then we'll finish off the room
with a chandelier
in the center of the space.
- Awesome.
- Well, I can't wait
to get started.
What are you doing
this weekend?
[Christie] Hanging
out with my kids.
[Tamara] I love that!
[John] All right, let's get
this up in the bathroom.
[Tamara] Sounds good.
I'm excited to see
this come together.
[John] I know.
I'm here today to get
the drywall hung up
in the main bathroom.
Getting the drywall up
means you can really start
seeing the space
and we can start
getting things done.
[machines whirring]
This main bathroom
isn't the biggest
bathroom ever,
and Christie said
she doesn't need a bathtub.
So storage is the key.
And I think we've got
a really great layout.
Getting the sheet rock up
means we can get started
on getting the cabinets in.
- [Tamara] Hey, Cassidy.
- [Cassidy] Hi, Tamara.
I have some samples
for the main bedroom.
[Tamara] Oh, yay!
I'm making a little lunch,
do you want some pasta?
[Cassidy] Oh,
I would love some.
[Tamara] Okay.
Get it on a plate for us.
Thank you.
Okay.
[Cassidy] Thank you
for lunch, I'm starving.
Always know where to go
when I'm hungry.
[chuckling]
So, I brought
a couple of samples...
- 'Kay.
- ...of wallpaper
and paint swatches.
[Tamara] Hmm, I love
all of these options.
So, I had two thoughts
on what we could do.
So, we could paint
the trim one color
and then paper
the walls like normal.
Yeah.
Or we could paint all
the walls and all the trim
the same color,
and then paper the ceiling.
Definitely the ceiling.
[Tamara] So, this one
I think is the right
choice for the ceiling
because the pattern is
really directionless, right?
Like, that can go anyway.
I'm loving that.
So, now which color do
we want to do for windows,
all the wings coating.
I'm thinking about
Christie and I'm, like,
this one is a great
wake up in the morning,
sunshine bright,
and this is, like,
"let's go to sleep
and stay cozy."
Yes.
Just feel like she's going
to like this lighter
a little bit better
than the dark.
I agree, I think she'll
really love this one.
- Awesome.
- Sounds good.
Let's eat.
[Tamara] The crew's
making good progress
on Christie's main suite.
The new bathroom
cabinets are installed
and we're removing
the old tile floor
so we can begin
adding the new tile.
Plus the tile for the new
shower is going up.
Can I help you
with this trim work?
[John] Yeah, definitely.
If you wanna just hop up
on there and help me.
I'm working on Christie's
main suite today.
This bedroom
is a great bedroom
with fantastic trim,
but you've got all this
great trim around
the base of the room,
and the crown molding
just feels a little wimpy
to me,
so, we're just adding
this simple detail.
We'll paint it all enamel
from the bottom to the top
and make it feel
like we've got big, beefy
crown molding in here.
When you paint it all
the same enamel,
you get this really
elegant look.
I've got this all
around my own house.
It's fantastic.
Once we get all
of this trim work painted
and the walls finished up,
then I get to move on
to the fun stuff.
The wallpaper on the ceiling.
- Finished.
- Perfect.
We went with this clean
and sleek beehive tile
throughout the entire
floor of the bathroom.
And then in the shower
we have this
gorgeous subway tile
that has a lot of texture.
It's a lot of white,
but it's really crisp,
and this entire space is gonna
come together beautifully.
So, you want me to start
buttering these for you?
[man] Yep, yes.
- Here you go.
- Yeah, yeah.
[Tamara] Need to make
a couple of cuts?
- [man] Yes, please.
- [Tamara] Okay.
Right here. Right here.
Once we get the floors
done, next thing,
paint these cabinets,
put the grout in,
put up some lights,
and then some
fantastic mirrors.
Here you go.
Today, everyone is
hard at work prepping
the main suite.
They're finished
matting the ceilings.
Painting the trim
in a soft dusty blue gray
and installing
the quartz countertops
in the bathroom.
Today I'm here to finally
get to my favorite part
of the design,
installing the wallpaper
on the ceiling.
Looking good.
It doesn't have an up or down
or a left and right,
so it just looks interesting
from every angle.
But it's really soft
and subtle
and once we get
the light fixture in,
the way it's going
to reflect the light
is gonna be stunning.
- I wanna check
the bathroom real quick.
- All right.
[Tamara] Ooh,
look at the countertops.
So crisp.
Wow.
She is gonna love this.
We're making tons of progress
on Christie's main suite.
We're sanding the floors
in the bedroom,
painting the bathroom
walls a crisp white...
...and installing some
really fun sconces
in the main bathroom.
Phase two is complete
and we're getting ready
to stage this main suite
for Christie and her family.
I feel like the bed
was always planned for here,
but I'm feeling like
it fits here better
between the windows.
Yeah, I agree.
Whenever I do a bedroom,
I try to think
of how is the room
going to be used,
and it fits perfectly
between the windows.
Yeah, I think that
looks really good.
And we could put
a chair right here.
[woman] Yeah.
That looks so cozy.
Perfect.
[Christie] Oh, my goodness!
You've blown me
away with the color.
It's amazing.
Phase two of Christie's
renovation is complete.
We've dressed the rooms
and just a few finishing touches,
and I'll be ready
to welcome Christie
into her new
main suite retreat.
When we started on this home,
there was a lot
of work to be done.
In the first phase of this
1973 traditional renovation,
we gave the entire
face of the house
a fresh coat of paint
and added pops of color
in all of the greenery
and flowers around
the front of the door.
Inside, we took this
entryway from basic...
...to beautiful with some
new light fixtures,
a hanging chandelier
in the entryway,
some really
fantastic trim work.
We transformed the living room
by creating a cozy environment
with a fireplace
and created a radiant,
traditional style kitchen
with pops of glam
and a little color
in the island.
And brightening
up the entire space
with this stunning window
that is the focal point
of the entire home.
In phase two, we renovated
Christie's main suite.
Now that everything
is complete,
I can't wait
to welcome Christie
and see the finished space.
[Christie] Oh, my goodness!
The color is amazing.
[Tamara] The main
bedroom started out
with a few nice details,
but it definitely
needed to be elevated
to meet Christie's style.
The overall vibe
for this main suite
retreat for Christie
is that I wanted it
to feel welcoming, cozy,
be a sanctuary for her
to relax and rest in.
This color is a shade
of minty blue.
Perfect for a great night's
sleep and a refreshing morning.
The wallpaper is amazing.
I would have never thought
of putting wallpaper
on the ceiling.
[Tamara] That beautiful
wallpaper on the ceiling,
it's a textural element
of the room to add
this wallpaper that
really changes the entire
vibe of the space.
I love where the bed is,
And the ability to have
a chair over here,
- but it also exposes...
- The trim.
[Christie] Absolutely.
It makes it so grand.
[Tamara] I also beefed
the trim up a little bit.
So, I added
this little detail...
[Christie] Okay.
...which makes it feel
like you've got this great
big crown molding.
I mean, it looks
completely different.
I love it.
[Tamara] Okay, well,
I'm dying to show you
your main bathroom.
[Christie] Oh!
Oh, wow!
Oh, my gosh. It's so pretty.
[Tamara]
When I first saw this space,
it's a huge bathroom,
but there was no plan
for the room.
So, with Christie,
we figured out
what she wanted.
Storage, storage
and more storage
was her top priority.
And so I gave you
the two vanities.
I just keep envisioning
you and your daughters
getting ready
for a dinner out.
[Christie] I love the mirrors.
The sconces are beautiful,
and I love how the sconces
tie in with all
of the hardware
and the sink.
I wanted it to be
a functional space
and stylish room
with these gorgeous
quartz countertops,
all of these light,
bright painted cabinets
and stunning sconces
left and right
of each of the mirrors
giving her plenty of space
and light to get ready by.
Love this.
I know a tub was not
in your game plan.
Like, not something
you're going to use,
and so this countertop
still gives you storage.
It's a great display spot.
I think for storage,
again, phenomenal.
And then the shower.
[Christie] It's amazing.
[Tamara] In the shower,
we did an arched entryway
into the shower
with a stunning tile detail
throughout the entire space.
Two showerheads,
one on each side.
Big rain-head showers.
[Christie] Oh,
and there's a handle.
- [Tamara] Yes.
- [Christie] I love
the handheld.
It feels super traditional
and elegant at the same time.
- Timeless. Classic.
- It is.
Love it. You outdid yourself.
Well, I am so glad
that you love it.
I think it's a really
fantastic space.
[Christie] Oh,
I couldn't be happier.
[Tamara] Yay!
I'm in awe of all of it.
- It's, it's amazing.
- That's awesome.
Literally everything you
did is, is perfect.
I appreciate it so much.
[Tamara] I can't wait
for you to actually move in!
The first thing I thought
when I walked in the door was
amazing transformation.
And could not believe
what she did with it.
It exceeded every one
of my expectations
and I couldn't be happier.
[daughters gasping]
[daughter 1] Oh, my God,
the ceiling!
- Oh, I love the tile.
- Wow!
[Christie] Without
her help, obviously...
- ...we'd probably be back...
- This house wouldn't
have been...
...we may be moving
again in two years.
Right. Right.
So, for their sake,
I think we're all happy.
[Christie] Hey! Welcome!
So pretty.
This island is a show stopper.
Can you believe how open it is
compared to when we bought it?
[friend] I don't even
recognize it.
This renovation
for Christie...
...was the perfect opportunity
to bring design
and style to life
for Christie's forever home.
We spent $200,000
on phase one renovations
and $100,000 on phase two.
With purchase and renovation,
that's a total
of $1,020,000 invested.
And a potential resale
value of $1.3 million.
Each space in Christie's home
was designed for her
and her daughters
and the way they live
in their home.
I hope that
this brings them joy
for years to come.
I am so happy for you.
I can't wait
for new beginnings
and to spend massive amount
of times together here.
[Christie] And let's also
cheers to Tamara.
Thank you for all she did.
- Tamara's hard work!
- Cheers to Tamara!
---
[Tamara]
Well, let's get after it.
All over Kansas City,
there are neglected mansions
that can be bought
for a bargain.
The worse they start,
the better they end.
It just takes
a little imagination
and a whole lot of hard work
to bring these tired
houses back to life.
This is fabulous.
[man] Oh, wow.
[Tamara] With my dad,
Ward, by my side,
It's so beautiful. I like it.
[Tamara]
We're helping clients design
and transform these houses...
- I'm in heaven.
- [chuckles]
[man] I love it!
[Tamara] ...into stunning
forever homes.
I'm in South Leawood,
which is about as far south
as you can go
in the metro Kansas City area.
And the houses out here
are in great neighborhoods
and people stay here
a really long time
and they don't sell.
So, when you find one
that's a good deal,
you've gotta scoop it up.
I'm not surprised this
homeowner found this one
and decided to take it on.
The problem is Christie
bought this house,
got into the demo
and is just overwhelmed.
So, I'm coming in
to help Christie
with her house and get it
over the finish line.
Hey, Christie, how's it going?
[Christie] Hey, how are you?
[Tamara] Good.
It's so good to see you.
[Christie] You, too.
Oh, my gosh,
I can't wait to see this.
- [Christie] I'm so excited.
- [Tamara] Right?
My name is Christie Glenn
and I live in Overland Park, Kansas.
I was born and raised here.
I have driven by this
house for years.
Loved it. Thought it
was amazing.
My vision of, like,
the perfect home.
My husband passed away
and my daughters,
Logan and Grace and I
just wanted a fresh start.
So, I was wanting
to do something
that would make them feel that
we were in a new place
with a new outlook on life.
So, this house
came on the market.
I fell in love with it,
they fell in love with it.
The timing was great.
So, when we first
walked in the house,
it was very, very choppy,
and so the first thing
I wanted to do was open it up.
Once I did that,
I kind of got overwhelmed
and wasn't sure of how
to lay everything out.
So, having Tamara come
in and help with all that
is very important to me.
Can't wait to see
what she does with it.
[Tamara] The outside
of the house is really pretty.
I love the outside
and that's what drew
me to it originally.
[Tamara] This home
is a four-bedroom, four-bath
traditional stone house
built in 1973.
It's 4,600 square feet
over two levels.
Christie purchased the house
for about $720,000,
which is a great price
for a neighborhood
where most homes are
well into the 900s.
And she set aside a budget
of $300,000 for renovations.
Tell me, what are you
thinking for the house?
[Christie]
Wanting it to be light.
So, we just need to come
up with a color palette.
There's a lot of colors
going on here.
[Christie] I would like
it to be one color,
and then maybe
highlighting the shutters
with a different color.
Okay. All of this
landscaping done.
I can imagine lots
of great plants out here.
- It's going to be fantastic.
- [Christie] Yeah.
[Tamara] I'm excited
to see what's inside.
- Let's go take a peek.
- [Christie] Okay.
[Tamara] Oh, my gosh.
The outside is stunning,
but this is exciting.
[Christie] It is awesome.
[Tamara] There's
so much potential here.
The first floor of this house
has a living room, a kitchen,
and an informal dining room
plus a mudroom off the garage.
I love this intentional
space right here.
This feels really nice
and comfortable.
It looks like you've
vaulted this already.
[Christie] Yes,
it was low ceiling,
and we just wanted
it to be open.
[Tamara]
This is a perfect spot
- for a beautiful
entryway light.
- [Christie] Yes.
Right here,
this feels like a cozy
little sitting area.
I mean, great wall
for a statement piece of art.
I just want it
to be comfortable and cozy.
So, that's what
I'm thinking in here.
[Tamara] Oh, my gosh,
the floors are great!
- I hope we can
refinish these...
- [Christie] Yeah.
[Tamara] ...and do it
throughout the entire area.
It'll look gorgeous.
- Yeah, absolutely.
- Okay, so what about in here?
These are new
headers, it looks like.
- [Christie] So,
we took out walls...
- [Tamara] 'Kay.
- ...so, we had to bring
these huge beams in...
- Yes.
- ...to support...
- [Tamara] Everything.
[Christie] We've
completely opened it up.
So much better.
This is an amazing space.
- I'm guessing this is kitchen.
- [Christie] Absolutely.
[Tamara] Family area,
it's really dark in here,
but I'm envisioning
a lot of light
coming into this space,
big fireplace.
So, it looks like you've
taken the fireplace out.
The original one wasn't really
the taste that I'm going for.
What I would like
to do is just do
a really pretty mantel.
I just want it to be something
for the holidays
we can decorate.
We always like
to have a fire going,
- so, I want this to be
kind of a focus point.
- Mmm-hmm. Okay.
If we're taking all this out,
let's start from scratch
and not have a hearth
that's built up...
- Absolutely. I agree.
- ...take it all
the way to the floor
and make it just as big
of a firebox as you can.
[Christie] Love that.
I like the flow
through 'cause, I mean,
you're going to be sitting
here watching shows,
sitting by the fire,
but then you've got
the kitchen right off it,
so, while you're
fixing dinner...
Right, so, I'm not removed.
Yeah, you're still
a part of everything.
Assuming a big Island.
[Christie] Yes, big island
to entertain with,
but I don't want
anything in it.
Great workspace for prep,
all that kind of stuff
- and just sitting,
hanging out.
- Yes.
So, I mean,
you can easily get...
...four, maybe even
five seats here.
- [Christie] Yes.
- Who is it you're cooking for?
My mom is Italian.
She cooked nonstop
for everybody.
If you came to our house,
you had to eat.
- So I kind of want
to be the same way.
- Right.
That's how I have
instilled it with my girls.
- And that's what we do.
- And they cook with you.
- [Christie] Yeah.
- That's so fun.
So, let's talk about
the placement of everything.
We've got this whole
back wall, that's huge.
- We're thinking
maybe a sink there.
- [Christie] Yes.
I would love my kitchen
sink under the window.
We have a huge backyard,
so, I want to be able
to look out, see that.
[Tamara]
Man, with the plywood covering
the windows on the back,
- it is super dark
in here right now.
- [Christie] Yes.
[Tamara] I can't
wait to pull that off
and put a new window and see
that beautiful backyard.
[Christie]
And other than that,
I'm up for whatever
your thoughts are.
[Tamara] We'll start
in the entryway by refinishing
the Brazilian
cherry floors throughout.
In the living room,
we'll give the fireplace
a stucco treatment
that will go all the way
up to the ceiling,
and we'll finish it off
with a new mantel.
For the kitchen,
we'll rack the two walls
with custom cabinets
topped with Italian
marble countertops.
Then we'll place
a large island
in the center of the room
and top it off
with two elegant
gold pendant lights.
Let's talk about this
beautiful mud space.
- Absolutely.
- This is huge.
[Christie] Yes,
we added that, actually.
[Tamara] Yeah, it's awesome.
Like, for such a big house
to not have a mud space.
So many people
coming in and out,
you don't want all
the clutter out there.
- You want to bring it in here.
- [Christie] Right.
[Tamara] Have you ever
thought about using this
as the mud space on one side,
like a little mini
office on the other?
[Christie] That would
be a great idea.
- Absolutely.
- Let's see the dining room.
[Christie] This is where
I envision the kitchen table
because it's obviously
right off of the kitchen.
- [Tamara] Right.
- [Christie] Easy access.
- [Tamara] So casual dining.
- [Christie] Very casual.
[Tamara] And then
this is extra cool.
[Christie] Okay.
I absolutely adore this.
- Okay. Awesome.
- [Christie] I love it.
I think it's got
so much charm,
- just a conversation piece.
I think it's precious.
- [Tamara] I love that.
You've envisioned yourself
here your whole life,
so let's make it your dream.
We have $200,000
for phase one of this project,
which includes
the main living areas
plus the exterior
of this property.
My plan is to get it
done in eight weeks.
[drill machine whirring]
[Tamara] Oh,
that's a pretty window.
I'm here
with my contractor, John.
Since Christie has
already demoed the house,
our first project
will be getting
the new window
installed in the kitchen.
I am so excited to see
this actually in place.
[man 1] Oh, we're hitting
some rock over here.
[Tamara] Do you need me...
give me a knife.
[man 2] What's
he running, dry wall?
[man 1] Yeah.
What, is it fitting on this
end and not this end?
Are we going to pull it down?
[man 1] One, two, three.
Let's bring it down,
and shift it to...
Just like with everything
else in construction,
sometimes things happen
and the hole is too small
for the window.
[banging]
[man 1] Okay. It'll go now.
We good?
[man 2] Yep, yep.
- One, two...
- Yep.
[banging]
Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
Okay.
- I think this looks amazing.
- It looks great.
Okay, but now that I'm
looking out this window,
I see a problem.
So, we've got a center
window that's nice and big
with mullions here
and we've got side
windows with mullions here.
The factory just
made a mistake,
which it can replace.
What we do is we actually
pop this piece of glass out
and can put it in one end.
What if I wanted to pop
these pieces of glass out
and keep this one?
Because what I'm liking
is you're standing here
at the sink
then you're really
looking out through
a bigger piece of glass.
It would be easier for us
to be able to replace
the casement...
- [Tamara] The sides.
- ...as opposed to the middle.
All right, well, thank you.
- The light coming
in is so fantastic.
- [John] It's incredible.
[Tamara] Now that I'm working
on more projects with clients,
I like to take time
to sit down with them
and review key design
details along the way.
I'm so excited.
This is going to be such
a beautiful kitchen.
- How do you feel?
- [Christie] Love it.
Love the island.
Okay, well,
so let's talk about
the fun stuff.
- Color.
- Okay.
- Let me put my glasses
on and see if I can see this.
- [laughing]
I love the layout.
I feel like we want
to anchor the space
with some darker colors
on the lower cabinets.
How do you feel about green?
Like a deep hunter-ish
kind of green.
- Not green.
- [Tamara] Not green.
Okay. What if we went with,
like, a navy?
Almost charcoal-ish navy
so it's not bright blue,
but it has some depth to it.
Absolutely.
[Tamara] And having
the beam be that
beautiful oak wrap.
- I love it. Sounds good to me.
- We're good to go.
- Yay.
- [Christie] Thank you.
Absolutely.
This looks fun.
I really like
how smooth this is.
More smooth stucco Italian.
Oh, my God.
[Christie] It looks so good.
[Tamara] Hey, Nora!
Tom, are you coming down?
You want two waffles?
Weekdays are pretty
busy at our house,
so I try to spend
even just a few minutes
at breakfast with the family
each morning.
You can sit here
and eat your eggs
and do your math.
I got your breakfast
right over there.
How many times
does three go into six?
[Nora] Uh, two.
Do you have
any baseball today?
[boy] Next Thursday.
[Tamara] Uh, that'd be great.
I can get ready
and get to the house.
Okay, let's go.
- [Nora] Bye, mom.
- [Tamara] Bye,
love you. Bye.
My crew is making
tons of progress
on Christie's house.
The rest of the drywall
is going up in the living
room and kitchen.
And the kitchen cabinets
and island are here
and going into place.
Things are really
starting to take shape.
This is looking good.
Oh, my gosh.
I'm at Christie's house today,
and I have this
really awesome idea
for the fireplace.
I want the entire face
of it to be stucco.
I want it to feel
a little bit of warmth
and just a nice, soft,
clean look that's
classic and timeless.
- I went with too much blue...
- [John] Yep.
...to begin with,
but I really like
how smooth this is...
- Mmm-hmm.
- ...versus this one
we did more textured.
More smooth stucco Italian.
Exactly, so, I brought
this a little bit of blue.
It's still going
to look white,
but it has that
blue undertone that I think
will complement everything.
This looks fun. Let's see.
[machine whirring]
The style of this treatment
is more of an Italian look,
which is super
important to Christie
because she's Italian
and we wanted to really
tie this into her heritage.
It draws your eye in
from the front door
and is the focal point,
literally, in all areas
of the main floor.
This is looking really good.
Do you mind
if the guys finish it up?
I wanna talk to you
- about the hood
over here in the kitchen.
- Absolutely.
This house has such
an open concept to it
that I wanted it to feel
like the living room
and kitchen is just
all one big space.
So, I want to do
this exact same treatment
to this entire hood
and just make it feel
really beautiful
and all of it tied together.
- Okay. Perfect.
- Yeah.
It's working out really well.
- Christie's gonna love it.
- She's gonna love it.
[Tamara]
I'm here at True Grit.
They do all kinds of cabinetry
and cutting boards,
tabletops,
all kinds of fun stuff.
- I'm excited about
Christie's Kitchen.
- Yeah, I am, too.
- And that cabinet
for the root vegetables...
- Mmm-hmm.
[Tamara] I'm picking out
a grid pattern for the root
vegetable drawer
that I'm putting
underneath the hutch
in Christie's kitchen.
Organization is huge to her,
so having a dedicated drawer
just for root vegetables
is going to be fantastic.
Look at all the options.
I came up with this idea
because I constantly have
my onions and my potatoes
all sprouting roots,
and I bought this great jar
that has holes all over it
and it's keeping
everything from sprouting,
and so I thought,
what if you did this
in a drawer situation?
[Scott]
This is a little thicker.
- [Tamara] Oh,
it's a little heavier.
- [Scott] Yeah.
Like, got a better
weight to it.
I think this is the way to go.
- Okay, so we just need
to measure this up.
- Yep.
Let me put some glasses on.
[Scott] With your shears,
better be safe.
- Here we go.
- Yeah.
That's going to look awesome.
- It's going to look great.
- Okay.
It's perfect.
Construction's really moving
along at Christie's house.
We're adding oak
to the load-bearing beams
in the open space
to create continuity
with the kitchen cabinetry.
Meanwhile, the mudroom
is coming along
with a beautiful herringbone
brick pattern on the floor.
[Ward] Well, Tamara,
this house has a real
wow factor.
- Check this out.
- [Ward] Pretty sweet.
- [Tamara] Yeah.
- [Ward] Looks like
a lot's been done.
I brought dad over
to Christie's house
so I could put you to work,
but also to see the progress.
Sure, sure, sure.
I think the work was primary.
Mmm, it's just a bonus.
Well, it's kind of this
open concept flow through
- where everything ties nicely.
- [Ward] Sure.
So much natural
light coming in.
- [Ward] Oh, and this
back yard is gorgeous.
- [Tamara] Isn't it?
Well, I know you
didn't invite me
over here just to stand around
and talk about things.
So, what do you
have on your mind?
Well, there's a lot
of work to get done.
I got some painting outside,
if you don't mind?
- Let's go get it done.
- Okay.
- Well, you always need
your dad to just...
- I do.
...kind of help you
finish things, so...
[Tamara] Dad, I need some
music, will you sing for me?
[chuckling]
[Ward] What do you want?
Some Italian opera?
[Tamara] Well,
that makes sense here.
I can't paint and sing.
- You can't do both?
- I can't do both.
This front door
is really black
and it just doesn't match
with the whole exterior
plan that we have,
so getting that painted,
the shutters painted,
is one step closer
to the finish line.
It's all coming together.
- It's great.
- Why don't we
go to lunch?
Are you buying?
I won.
What did you win?
I finished first.
Not even comparable.
- And then I came
and helped you.
- Oh, my gosh.
[Tamara] You're the slowpoke.
[Ward] Oh,
you are something else.
[Tamara] Let's do this.
In all of my homes,
I love to feature artists.
More drawers
than you could imagine.
Oh, yeah.
I absolutely love it.
[Tamara]
Are you going on a picnic?
[Ward] I am going
out to the farm.
Work on a few
things out there.
Okay, well before you go,
can I have you do me a favor?
It's just a little one.
- [laughing]
- Little baby favor.
This is actually
an easy project.
I know your easy projects.
[Tamara] So, I found
this picture of Christie
- and her daughters
in the garage...
- Mmm-hmm.
...and I just thought it would
be a really nice thing to do
is frame a picture for her.
Basically, what my thought
was is we just take this
- and put it on top...
- Mmm-hmm.
...so it looks like this,
and then you could carve out,
like, a dado on the back
so that you could put
glass in it.
So, like, 20 minutes tops.
Twenty minutes at least.
At most.
- [laughing]
- At most, Dad.
I can get that done.
Okay, well,
they'll really appreciate it.
It means something
special to them.
Making a frame
is really pretty easy.
It's just cutting everything
into exact 45s,
making it fit together,
getting it glued
up so that it's really
square when you're done.
A picture frame like this
with a picture of Christie's
family in it
is just a personal touch
that Tamara likes to add
to every house that she does.
[Tamara] I came
prepared to paint.
So, you've got
everything tack clothed?
Yep, everything's vacuumed
and wiped down.
We're ready to go.
It's time to start painting
that island and I am dying
to see it,
and so I want to be
the one to put this on there.
This paint color was
one of those big decisions
for Christie.
She was hesitant to go
with a charcoal color
like this because it
is super bold,
but when she sees this done,
it's gonna blow her mind,
and what a great
choice it was.
Okay, this is looking good.
We'll let this dry and then
get the second coat on.
You guys can move on
to the drawers and cabinets.
[man] Let's do it.
[Tamara] The countertops
are getting installed today.
When you're putting
in a countertop
that has a waterfall edge,
it is so important
to have an installer
that can really get those
corners nice and tight,
keep the vein matching
from the top all the way
down the side.
But that means getting
a cut that meets perfectly,
filling in all of that seam
with an epoxy, letting it dry,
and then sanding
and buffing it down
to perfection.
It makes it look like
one giant slab that
just fell to the floor.
This looks good.
[machine whirring]
[Tamara] Wow!
What a beautiful slab.
It's all hands on deck
right now.
It's little bits here,
little bits there,
and while I'm here,
and I've also got
a little spot of wallpaper
that I want to get installed
and just keep
knocking things out.
This whole space is, like,
mud space, workspace.
It really functions
for multiple things,
and so I want it to be a fun
space that functions well.
So, we did a herringbone
floor out of brick
and then all of these
great cabinets.
And it's beautiful
with this wallpaper.
[Chantell] Hi!
[Tamara] Hi, it's so
good to see you.
- Welcome, nice to see
you again.
- How's it going?
- Good.
- Is it your first time
in this place?
It is, this is amazing.
I'm in the West Bottoms
down here at Convivial,
getting ready to find
just the perfect piece
for Christie's house.
- Can we go peek around
and see what we can make?
- Yes, let's take a peek.
[Tamara] I really like this.
It feels a little modern.
It feels traditional
at the same time.
Let's do this.
One of my favorite things
is when I get to actually
get my hands dirty
and make something.
And seeing the process
of making these spaces,
is such a cool thing.
Okay, so now that
you've poured the slip
into the mold,
- we're going to let it sit
for about 10 minutes...
- Okay.
...and then we're
gonna come back to it
and deplete the excess
slip from the mold.
In all of my homes,
I use a ton of artwork,
but I love to feature artists,
and knowing where it comes
from just makes it
even more special.
[Chantell] You can see
now the form is inside.
[Tamara] You can get
something handmade
just for you right
here in Kansas City.
- This is when you start
thinking about life and...
- Yes!
Spending some time
with your thoughts.
[chuckling]
[Tamara] Okay.
So we're going
to glaze it, fire it,
and get it all ready
for Christie's home.
All right. Sounds good.
Like, a hair up.
Things are flying
over at Christie's house.
The lights are going in.
Appliances are getting put in.
Before you know it,
we're gonna have
all of the furniture
put in place,
and let her see
the end result.
Hey, John, how do you
think this looks?
- [Tamara] It's coming
together, right?
- [John] Yeah.
[Tamara] Beautiful.
I think it might
be a little too big.
Let's get the couches
in and then I'll see
what we've got.
[woman] Okay.
Phase one of Christie's
house is almost done.
I'm here with my crew,
and we're getting
all the staging
finished up for her.
Perfect.
A calm, neutral palate
was really important
to Christie,
but wanted a few pops as well,
and so the island
is really that beautiful
color for the entire space.
So, I need to tie that
together with the rugs,
the artwork and all
the pillows, furnishings
because from the front
door all the way through,
you see it all.
Well, this feels good.
But I'm not loving
that art up there.
Why don't we move the mirror
that we were gonna put
in the entry and swap 'em?
Now it's just those
finishing details
that we need to put together,
and then I'm ready
to show this to Christie.
I'm liking it.
I'm dying to show you
your main bathroom.
[Christie] Oh!
Oh, wow!
[Tamara] It's been
eight weeks,
and phase one renovations
on Christie's home are complete.
We've staged the main living
areas of the home
so that Christie and her
daughters can get a sense
of what their new home
is going to feel like.
I'm ready to give them
a peek at the progress.
I can't wait for them
to come by and see
the finished space.
When I first saw
this property,
it was clear it needed
a little TLC.
Changing the color
of the entire exterior,
adding some beautiful
greenery and flowers,
we've changed the entire
vibe of this entryway.
So now it draws your eye
all the way from the street
to the front door.
- [daughter 1] My gosh!
- [Christie] How much
better does it look?
I like how the garage
doors are white and not
brown or that faux stain.
[daughter 1] And the shutters.
[Christie] So cute. I love it.
My goal with this
1973 stone house
is to give Christie
and her daughters
a new lease on life
in this home renovation
that she's dreamed
of for years.
[daughter 1] Are you
ready to go in?
[Christie] Oh, my God.
I can't wait.
[daughter 2] Oh, my Gosh.
I can't wait.
[Tamara] Hi. How are you?
- [Christie] Good, how are you?
- [Tamara] So good to see you.
[daughter 1] Oh, my God!
[woman 2] Oh, my God!
[Christie] Wow!
When I walked in, I could
see it's already gutted
and stuff is started
to come back together,
but Christie brought me in
to take it the rest of the way
and finish it up right.
My gosh!
It looks so good.
- [daughter 1] Isn't it great?
- [Christie] Oh, my God.
It's beautiful. It really is.
[Tamara] We took this
entryway from basic...
...to beautiful with some
new light fixtures,
a hanging chandelier
in the entryway,
some really fantastic
trim work.
With such an open concept,
I really wanted
to define this space
as a sitting area
where Christie could sit
and enjoy the view
of her beautiful front yard
and wait for her girls
to come home.
Okay, just wanted to bring
a little something special
from Kansas City to your home,
and I went down to a little
shop that's called Convivial,
and actually made
these vases for you
because they remind me
of the whole house.
There's three, three flowers.
One for each of us.
[Christie] Okay, that's cute.
[Tamara] It has a little
something special from me.
[daughter 1] Thank you.
And remember, you know,
all the work that we've done.
[Christie] I love that.
- The house sprouted.
- [Tamara] It did.
They're precious.
- [daughter 1] Oh, my God.
- Thank you!
- Well, let me show
you the living room.
- Okay.
This room is huge.
When I first walked
into this space,
this living room left
a lot to be desired.
I could see
they'd already started
with knocking out
a couple of walls
and opening it up
to give it an open
concept feeling.
And now all of this
kind of ties together.
We've got that creamy, soft,
white running throughout this
whole main space.
[Christie] Fireplace
is absolutely breathtaking.
I knew that the fireplace
was going to be
a huge focal point
of this space,
and we needed to do
something really special,
so, we covered it
in a beautiful traditional
Italian style stucco.
Putting that mantle
across the top
that has a little rustic vibe
made all the difference.
The mantel matches the beams.
The beams are phenomenal.
[Tamara]
Aren't they beautiful?
[Christie] The floor,
such an amazing color.
These dark Brazilian
cherry floors
felt really heavy,
with this refinishing,
we muted the color
and it's still the anchor
to the space
with all the bright walls
and soft furnishings
just without that
heavy feeling to them.
Who wants to go
in the kitchen?
- Me!
- Let's do it! I'm in.
[Christie] That is fabulous.
I love, how much
space there is
so there's no congestion.
Christie loves to entertain
and the kitchen is
the heart of her home.
She loves to cook
with her big Italian family
surrounding this giant island
and furniture grade cabinetry
on one end
with this beautiful hutch,
it really anchors
the end of the kitchen.
Calacatta quartz countertops
running across the back wall
and then more fabulous
built-in cabinetry.
I feel like this is
the kitchen that she's
always dreamed of.
So, I wanted to make
sure that you had
more drawers than
you could imagine.
- Oh my gosh.
- Oh, yeah.
And we'll fill those.
Every inch.
[Christie] Oh, my gosh,
I love that color.
[Tamara] Storage
was a huge piece
of the planning
for this kitchen,
so we made this island
really functional
with drawers on the front
and the back
and hid as many
of the appliances
as we possibly could.
And this dark navy
color on the island
feels a little charcoaly,
a little navy.
and very interesting,
especially with the beautiful
gold hardware
and stunning glass
and brass pendant lights
over it.
We also kept that countertop
perfectly smooth,
water falling
all the way to the floor.
Let's talk about that window.
Every morning, you're going
to be washing dishes
with all of this
natural light coming in.
It's fantastic.
Between this
and all of the lights,
it's a changed house.
When I first saw
the kitchen space,
it was very dark.
and she had already
asked her contractor
to put a huge window
in the space,
which I think was
a stroke of brilliance
because that backyard
and the light pouring
into this kitchen
changes everything.
I'm really excited
about something else.
I want you to go take
a peek in the mudroom.
[Christie] The floor
with the paint,
it's amazing.
For this multi-function space,
we went with a soft,
gray blue cabinet color
and a pop of wallpaper
over the custom-made bench
so that you've got
a space that has
a little bit of vibrancy
flanking that gorgeous window.
Oh, my gosh, a picture of us.
[Tamara] I found this picture
of you guys out in the garage.
So my dad built the frame
and I gilded it,
and so we just wanted
that to be a special
little thing...
- You're so sweet!
- ...for you guys to remember
when we're long gone.
- I love that.
- I love that.
That is such a special touch.
[Tamara] Enjoy every
morning while you're
sitting at your desk.
Okay, let me show you
the dining room.
- [daughter 1] Oh, my gosh.
- [Christie] Wow.
- Right?
- Oh, my.
Oh, my God, I love it!
[Christie] I love
this countertop.
[daughter 2] Oh, my Gosh!
I love it. It's amazing.
So I gave this casual
dining room a refresh
then added a beautiful wet bar
with gorgeous metallic
glam tile in the back.
I love the fireplace.
[Tamara] This is one
of those spaces
that originally was outdated
and needed to be revived.
We gave the fireplace a reface
with a fresh coat of paint
and this crisp mantle
to wrap around it,
bringing a little bit of life
back to this fireplace.
A casual dining room.
- We definitely
aren't the formal type.
- [laughing]
So, this is us.
This works great.
[Tamara] Well,
I can't tell you
how excited I am that
you guys love phase one.
I cannot wait to get
started on phase two.
I can't wait.
Have at it, sister.
[Tamara] All right,
we'll make it happen for you.
The phase one transformation
of the main living spaces
and the exterior
are completed.
My overall reno budget
for this property
was $300,000.
I spent $200,000
on the phase one renovations
leaving me
with $100,000 for my plans
in the main suite
for phase two.
I plan to get it done
in four weeks.
[Tamara] Oh, my goodness.
Okay, so we're ready to start
on the whole main suite.
For phase two, we're focusing
on the main bedroom
and the main bathroom
of Christie's house.
And what a great main suite.
[Christie] Perfect size.
You know, this room
is really a great blank slate.
I love all of this trim.
[Christie] I love the trim,
I want to keep that.
[Tamara] Awesome.
And then what about
the wall color?
- How do you feel about it?
- I'd like to change it.
[Tamara] Okay. I'm with you.
How do you feel
about wallpaper?
I love wallpaper.
- I love that idea.
- [Tamara] Okay.
So I'm kind of feeling
like this is a space that
could cozy up with some paper.
Already has great
can lighting,
the hardwoods look awesome.
We're going to just
finish this the same
as we did out there.
- [Christie] Yes.
- What about the barn door?
[Christie] I love it.
I want to keep it.
- I think it saves space,
number one...
- Yes.
...but also, I just
think that it's cute
and it goes with the charm
because it was original.
I really like the circle.
- I think that's a really
a nice detail.
- [Christie] Love it.
[Tamara] Okay, well,
I mean, this is a great
starting point,
but I have a feeling
the bathroom's not
quite so easy.
[Christie] No.
And I will need your,
your opinion on all of that.
- I can't wait
to see this.
- Okay.
[Tamara] Wow,
okay, private toilet.
[Christie] Yes.
[Tamara] Look at this!
Really beautiful space.
Tons of potential.
I love the corner shower.
So much other space,
I'm guessing the tub's
going to go right here.
- Some vanity.
- [Christie] No.
No, I'm not a tub
person. No tub.
No, why?
You know what,
I don't use 'em,
and I just kind
of want it for storage.
I think it's such
a great area space
and the window,
I think we could
do something else.
If you're not going to use
the tub, you don't need a tub.
Organization key in here.
How about mirrors?
Do you want sheet mirrors?
[Christie] I want
something more,
- I want some more character.
- Interesting.
What are you thinking
for the floor?
I would like some
sort of a pattern.
[Tamara] What do you think
about a hexagon pattern?
Love it.
[Tamara] In the main bedroom,
we'll refresh the walls
with a soothing neutral
gray color and we'll add
a decorative trim element
to surround
the inlaid ceiling.
For the main bathroom,
we'll install a custom vanity
on each wall with even more
storage underneath the window
and an arched corner shower.
Then we'll finish off the room
with a chandelier
in the center of the space.
- Awesome.
- Well, I can't wait
to get started.
What are you doing
this weekend?
[Christie] Hanging
out with my kids.
[Tamara] I love that!
[John] All right, let's get
this up in the bathroom.
[Tamara] Sounds good.
I'm excited to see
this come together.
[John] I know.
I'm here today to get
the drywall hung up
in the main bathroom.
Getting the drywall up
means you can really start
seeing the space
and we can start
getting things done.
[machines whirring]
This main bathroom
isn't the biggest
bathroom ever,
and Christie said
she doesn't need a bathtub.
So storage is the key.
And I think we've got
a really great layout.
Getting the sheet rock up
means we can get started
on getting the cabinets in.
- [Tamara] Hey, Cassidy.
- [Cassidy] Hi, Tamara.
I have some samples
for the main bedroom.
[Tamara] Oh, yay!
I'm making a little lunch,
do you want some pasta?
[Cassidy] Oh,
I would love some.
[Tamara] Okay.
Get it on a plate for us.
Thank you.
Okay.
[Cassidy] Thank you
for lunch, I'm starving.
Always know where to go
when I'm hungry.
[chuckling]
So, I brought
a couple of samples...
- 'Kay.
- ...of wallpaper
and paint swatches.
[Tamara] Hmm, I love
all of these options.
So, I had two thoughts
on what we could do.
So, we could paint
the trim one color
and then paper
the walls like normal.
Yeah.
Or we could paint all
the walls and all the trim
the same color,
and then paper the ceiling.
Definitely the ceiling.
[Tamara] So, this one
I think is the right
choice for the ceiling
because the pattern is
really directionless, right?
Like, that can go anyway.
I'm loving that.
So, now which color do
we want to do for windows,
all the wings coating.
I'm thinking about
Christie and I'm, like,
this one is a great
wake up in the morning,
sunshine bright,
and this is, like,
"let's go to sleep
and stay cozy."
Yes.
Just feel like she's going
to like this lighter
a little bit better
than the dark.
I agree, I think she'll
really love this one.
- Awesome.
- Sounds good.
Let's eat.
[Tamara] The crew's
making good progress
on Christie's main suite.
The new bathroom
cabinets are installed
and we're removing
the old tile floor
so we can begin
adding the new tile.
Plus the tile for the new
shower is going up.
Can I help you
with this trim work?
[John] Yeah, definitely.
If you wanna just hop up
on there and help me.
I'm working on Christie's
main suite today.
This bedroom
is a great bedroom
with fantastic trim,
but you've got all this
great trim around
the base of the room,
and the crown molding
just feels a little wimpy
to me,
so, we're just adding
this simple detail.
We'll paint it all enamel
from the bottom to the top
and make it feel
like we've got big, beefy
crown molding in here.
When you paint it all
the same enamel,
you get this really
elegant look.
I've got this all
around my own house.
It's fantastic.
Once we get all
of this trim work painted
and the walls finished up,
then I get to move on
to the fun stuff.
The wallpaper on the ceiling.
- Finished.
- Perfect.
We went with this clean
and sleek beehive tile
throughout the entire
floor of the bathroom.
And then in the shower
we have this
gorgeous subway tile
that has a lot of texture.
It's a lot of white,
but it's really crisp,
and this entire space is gonna
come together beautifully.
So, you want me to start
buttering these for you?
[man] Yep, yes.
- Here you go.
- Yeah, yeah.
[Tamara] Need to make
a couple of cuts?
- [man] Yes, please.
- [Tamara] Okay.
Right here. Right here.
Once we get the floors
done, next thing,
paint these cabinets,
put the grout in,
put up some lights,
and then some
fantastic mirrors.
Here you go.
Today, everyone is
hard at work prepping
the main suite.
They're finished
matting the ceilings.
Painting the trim
in a soft dusty blue gray
and installing
the quartz countertops
in the bathroom.
Today I'm here to finally
get to my favorite part
of the design,
installing the wallpaper
on the ceiling.
Looking good.
It doesn't have an up or down
or a left and right,
so it just looks interesting
from every angle.
But it's really soft
and subtle
and once we get
the light fixture in,
the way it's going
to reflect the light
is gonna be stunning.
- I wanna check
the bathroom real quick.
- All right.
[Tamara] Ooh,
look at the countertops.
So crisp.
Wow.
She is gonna love this.
We're making tons of progress
on Christie's main suite.
We're sanding the floors
in the bedroom,
painting the bathroom
walls a crisp white...
...and installing some
really fun sconces
in the main bathroom.
Phase two is complete
and we're getting ready
to stage this main suite
for Christie and her family.
I feel like the bed
was always planned for here,
but I'm feeling like
it fits here better
between the windows.
Yeah, I agree.
Whenever I do a bedroom,
I try to think
of how is the room
going to be used,
and it fits perfectly
between the windows.
Yeah, I think that
looks really good.
And we could put
a chair right here.
[woman] Yeah.
That looks so cozy.
Perfect.
[Christie] Oh, my goodness!
You've blown me
away with the color.
It's amazing.
Phase two of Christie's
renovation is complete.
We've dressed the rooms
and just a few finishing touches,
and I'll be ready
to welcome Christie
into her new
main suite retreat.
When we started on this home,
there was a lot
of work to be done.
In the first phase of this
1973 traditional renovation,
we gave the entire
face of the house
a fresh coat of paint
and added pops of color
in all of the greenery
and flowers around
the front of the door.
Inside, we took this
entryway from basic...
...to beautiful with some
new light fixtures,
a hanging chandelier
in the entryway,
some really
fantastic trim work.
We transformed the living room
by creating a cozy environment
with a fireplace
and created a radiant,
traditional style kitchen
with pops of glam
and a little color
in the island.
And brightening
up the entire space
with this stunning window
that is the focal point
of the entire home.
In phase two, we renovated
Christie's main suite.
Now that everything
is complete,
I can't wait
to welcome Christie
and see the finished space.
[Christie] Oh, my goodness!
The color is amazing.
[Tamara] The main
bedroom started out
with a few nice details,
but it definitely
needed to be elevated
to meet Christie's style.
The overall vibe
for this main suite
retreat for Christie
is that I wanted it
to feel welcoming, cozy,
be a sanctuary for her
to relax and rest in.
This color is a shade
of minty blue.
Perfect for a great night's
sleep and a refreshing morning.
The wallpaper is amazing.
I would have never thought
of putting wallpaper
on the ceiling.
[Tamara] That beautiful
wallpaper on the ceiling,
it's a textural element
of the room to add
this wallpaper that
really changes the entire
vibe of the space.
I love where the bed is,
And the ability to have
a chair over here,
- but it also exposes...
- The trim.
[Christie] Absolutely.
It makes it so grand.
[Tamara] I also beefed
the trim up a little bit.
So, I added
this little detail...
[Christie] Okay.
...which makes it feel
like you've got this great
big crown molding.
I mean, it looks
completely different.
I love it.
[Tamara] Okay, well,
I'm dying to show you
your main bathroom.
[Christie] Oh!
Oh, wow!
Oh, my gosh. It's so pretty.
[Tamara]
When I first saw this space,
it's a huge bathroom,
but there was no plan
for the room.
So, with Christie,
we figured out
what she wanted.
Storage, storage
and more storage
was her top priority.
And so I gave you
the two vanities.
I just keep envisioning
you and your daughters
getting ready
for a dinner out.
[Christie] I love the mirrors.
The sconces are beautiful,
and I love how the sconces
tie in with all
of the hardware
and the sink.
I wanted it to be
a functional space
and stylish room
with these gorgeous
quartz countertops,
all of these light,
bright painted cabinets
and stunning sconces
left and right
of each of the mirrors
giving her plenty of space
and light to get ready by.
Love this.
I know a tub was not
in your game plan.
Like, not something
you're going to use,
and so this countertop
still gives you storage.
It's a great display spot.
I think for storage,
again, phenomenal.
And then the shower.
[Christie] It's amazing.
[Tamara] In the shower,
we did an arched entryway
into the shower
with a stunning tile detail
throughout the entire space.
Two showerheads,
one on each side.
Big rain-head showers.
[Christie] Oh,
and there's a handle.
- [Tamara] Yes.
- [Christie] I love
the handheld.
It feels super traditional
and elegant at the same time.
- Timeless. Classic.
- It is.
Love it. You outdid yourself.
Well, I am so glad
that you love it.
I think it's a really
fantastic space.
[Christie] Oh,
I couldn't be happier.
[Tamara] Yay!
I'm in awe of all of it.
- It's, it's amazing.
- That's awesome.
Literally everything you
did is, is perfect.
I appreciate it so much.
[Tamara] I can't wait
for you to actually move in!
The first thing I thought
when I walked in the door was
amazing transformation.
And could not believe
what she did with it.
It exceeded every one
of my expectations
and I couldn't be happier.
[daughters gasping]
[daughter 1] Oh, my God,
the ceiling!
- Oh, I love the tile.
- Wow!
[Christie] Without
her help, obviously...
- ...we'd probably be back...
- This house wouldn't
have been...
...we may be moving
again in two years.
Right. Right.
So, for their sake,
I think we're all happy.
[Christie] Hey! Welcome!
So pretty.
This island is a show stopper.
Can you believe how open it is
compared to when we bought it?
[friend] I don't even
recognize it.
This renovation
for Christie...
...was the perfect opportunity
to bring design
and style to life
for Christie's forever home.
We spent $200,000
on phase one renovations
and $100,000 on phase two.
With purchase and renovation,
that's a total
of $1,020,000 invested.
And a potential resale
value of $1.3 million.
Each space in Christie's home
was designed for her
and her daughters
and the way they live
in their home.
I hope that
this brings them joy
for years to come.
I am so happy for you.
I can't wait
for new beginnings
and to spend massive amount
of times together here.
[Christie] And let's also
cheers to Tamara.
Thank you for all she did.
- Tamara's hard work!
- Cheers to Tamara!
