[Tosi] I'm Christina Tosi,

the founder of Milk Bar.

I built a baking empire
on sweet, delicious cookie dough,

Christophe,

Maya-Camille,

a flavor fanatic.

Gonzo,

a champion of chocolate.

And Ashley,

the queen of cakes.

Individually, four brilliant bakers.

But I brought them together

-Hi!

[woman] So excited!

-Awesome.
-Welcome to our ground.

Bake Squad.

Let's do it.

-Meet Cynthia.
-[Gonzo] Hi, Cynthia.

-Hey.
-Hi, Cynthia.

-Welcome.
-Nice to meet you.

Cynthia,
these are four boss bakers, capital B,

who can and will
whip up a showstopping dessert.

Oh yeah.

[Tosi] You're gonna have four
incredible desserts to choose from.

From those four,
I'm gonna pressure you to pick the one

that you think will leave
your party guests speechless.

-That's crazy.
-You ready to tell them about the event?

-I'm ready.
-Hit it.

So I am throwing a combined birthday party

for two of my children.

Aw!

[Cynthia] So we're celebrating Sharif.

[Tosi] And how old is Sharif turning?

-He will be 12 years old.
-All right.

And then we have Salomeo right here,
who is turning six.

Oh my gosh. So cute.

I have six children.

-Ooh!
-Wow!

You have six children?

Six boys.

[Ashley] Oh my God.

-[Gonzo] How do you do it?

[Maya-Camille] Wow!

Bow down to you.

-Yes.
-Oh, thank you. Thank you very much.

Whoo! Now, tell us about the event.

So, we're going to go to the park.

We normally just have
a sheet cake or an ice cream cake,

nothing extravagant.

So I think it would be something amazing

if we can give them a dessert
that just makes their jaw drop.

[Christophe] You will.

They'll be mind-blown.

No doubt.

So I'm just looking
for my pièce de résistance.

Speaking to a Frenchman up here.

Did I say that good?

C'est magnifique.

-Thank you.
-[Tosi] Give us the lowdown on Salomeo.

[Cynthia] He's my fitness guru.

He gets up, he does jumping jacks,
he does crunches--

[Cynthia] That's Sharif.

Sharif is such a sweetheart.

Like, he's so loving.

But he's also a builder.

Um, he's building there with his uncle,
um, who is a landscaper.

And he loves to build
Minecraft things, Legos.

What kind of things
do your boys like to do?

They really are into dragons
and dinosaurs.

-Nice.
-Superheroes.

They play video games together.

Also going outside, riding the bike,

and playing ball, things like that.

[Tosi] What do they like?

Sweet, savory…

So their favorites
would probably be mac and cheese…

[Ashley] Mmm.

I'll just try an eye.

Super cone.

What if it was, like,
all their favorite foods?

[Maya-Camille]
I think I could do something cool in here.

-Maya-Camille.
-Hi, chef.

I am really excited to hear
what you're dreaming up right now.

Sharif is a bit of a builder,
or he likes landscaping,

so I was thinking of an edible house.

Wait, you're gonna become

the general contractor
of Bake Squad today?

I am the general contractor. Get to work.

Sharif gets the house, right?

But Salomeo gets everything
that's in the house.

So we'll build out a gym,
because he's really into fitness.

And so I was thinking of making
a barbell, and maybe like--

But, like, a ba-- Like a barbell.

Like a little bitty barbell,
because I do collect miniatures.

Maya-Camille, if you can bring this
to life, my friend,

I think you have
a real showstopper on your hands.

-Good luck.
-Thank you, chef.

-What we gonna do?
-What are you thinking?

I don't know what I'm thinking.
Birthday, two kids…

-They have to share the dessert.
-Yeah.

They like many things.
Bringing that all into one design--

Like, you can't represent everything,
you know?

-What would you like to do?
-Yeah, I'm doing a cake here for sure.

Yeah?

But the good thing about the cake
is different tiers,

so each tier can, like, represent
one of the kids in a different way.

Oh.

You know, thinking of doing
their favorite-foods cake.

And that's the pizza
that she mentioned the kids like.

Up here can be--
They mentioned mac and cheese.

And then a bowl of spaghetti
overflowing on the top tier.

-Whoa! Good luck, my friend.
-Thank you.

I'm thinking about coming up
with something for the kids,

and they love dragons,

so I'm gonna have this dragon egg
all made out of chocolate.

You're gonna see
a hand sticking out of it.

There's gonna be a tail coming out of it.

So I'm thinking about doing
a small dragon egg.

Hopefully somewhere like a foot.

Dragon egg, pretty cool.
Small dragon egg, so what?

Okay. I could go big,
but I need your help.

-Let me see what I can do.
-Okay.

What I'm thinking right now is
small individual cone for everybody.

You know?

I remember Cynthia saying
that the boys like ice cream,

so I'm making house-made waffle cones.

It will be filled with cake, compote,
and topped with fillings.

And then, in the center,

I'll make, like,

[Maya-Camille] I am making an edible house

that is also outfitted
with an edible basketball court,

a pond, and a race car track.

On the foundation is
marshmallow that looks like grass.

This is the mixture for the marshmallows.

I've just got to get this sugar boiling.

I have a lot going on.

I have to make this marshmallow mixture.

I have to make the cookie dough
for the actual house.

The texture of this cookie
has to be just right.

And yes, I'm doing a lot all at once.

[gasps] I made a mess today.

Well, if it boiled over,
then that must mean

it finally reached 240 degrees.

It's good enough,

so we're just gonna go ahead
and dump that into our…

mixer.

I'm gonna make a big batch of vanilla

I have-- That's a lot of… a lot of cake.

I am a cake artist.

My company, Sugar Monster,
is a small boutique cake shop.

I'm known for making
really awesome, cool, edgy cakes,

and I'm also a proud single mom.

My beautiful daughter, Chloe Grace,
is two and a half years old.

So I have a different connection now
to kids' parties,

so I'm going big here.

I'm gonna make these boys
a three-tier cake,

so I'm gonna need a ton of batter.

Three yellow vanilla.
So I gotta color that too.

Red velvet in the oven.

I'm going to make two different cones,

one red and one black.

The black one will be red velvet,

blackberry compote,
and cream-cheese filling.

The red will be strawberry,
vanilla, and chocolate cake.

Two kilo of chocolate cake.

So I have so much to do today.

Twenty red cones, 20 chocolate cones,

one giant cone, blown-sugar cherry,

cherry mousse, chocolate cake,
red velvet cake, cream cheese filling…

-[bright ding]
-A lot.

-Christophe.
-Hi, chef.

Talk to me about this big cone.

It's gonna be tall.
Like four foot tall, minimum.

So it's a good thing
that you're stopping by

because we need to find a way to look at

how we can form one large cone.

It can be wooden, it can be metal.

Got it. Let me see what I can do. Hold on.

[Christophe] Awesome.

My chocolate creations and desserts

have been eaten by Madonna,
Snoop Dogg, Ellen DeGeneres.

When it comes to chocolate,
there's nothing I can't do.

I'm gonna have this giant dragon egg
with different components inside,

so I need all these holes
to showcase these other components.

Go to the machine.

You wanna make sure
that the whole layer of chocolate is even.

Everything has to be perfect,

and everything has to be done in one shot,

'cause there's not enough time
to redo it again.

with the way this turned out. Beautiful.

Go ahead and hit it with some color.

-Oh, look at that.
-Maya-Camille.

What is happening here?

This is the landscape.

Excuse me,
you're also a landscape architect?

I'm still fascinated by the home.

-So, single-story?
-A single-story home.

It needs to be bigger.
Maybe it's two stories.

It's daunting, but I do think
that the kids would be wowed

by seeing, like, a two-story home.

Like, why doesn't a gingerbread house
normally exist with two layers?

Because, structurally, it's complex.

When Chef Christina
asked me to build a second story,

the first thought
that came into my mind is this:

[fake laughing]

Really?

Keep your eye on that clock.

-Thank you, chef. I appreciate it.
-Good luck.

A giant egg is not enough.

I have these awesome
silicone molds of a claw,

I have another mold
for the tail of the dragon,

and then I'm making smaller eggs,

'cause I want the kids to have
personalized chocolates as well…

I'm gonna pour this chocolate in.

…with their different combinations.

I have coconut strawberry
and crunchy chocolate.

I'm feeling excited,

and I'm gonna create
an awesome memory for these kids.

They will never forget their birthday.

Okay, where are we at? Um…

Compote, two kinds, done.

So this is marshmallows
with shredded coconut on top.

-[Cynthia] The turf?
-Yeah.

-Oh my God.
-This is amazing.

The texture is amazing.
This is so frickin' cool.

I'm just gonna bite it.

[Cynthia] This is, like, amazing.
I wanna try the racetrack.

-Oh yeah.
-I'm dying for the racetrack as well.

'Cause I think that is something
they would--

-Get into?
-Yeah.

Can I take you home with me?

[laughs]

It's so true. There's something so fun
about eating a miniature of it.

This is really good.

I gotta say, Maya-Camille,
it really is a study of texture.

The marshmallow is very fluffy.

The cookies and cream
is a little bit more dense.

You really thought about every element

literally from the ground up.

I think it's crazy cool.

Congratulations.

-Thank you so much.
-Thank you.

-Thank you.
-[Tosi] All right, mama, we're off.

-[Tosi] I'm bringing this with me.
-[both laugh]

Welcome.

Uh, this is real.

[Gonzo] It is real.

[Cynthia] Oh my God. That--

Oh my God.

Okay, Gonzo, tell us about your creation.

[Gonzo] So, what I got here is
this giant dragon egg.

You can see all the details.

So you have an eye,
which is looking at you from the inside.

You have the claw.

You can see the skin on the inside,
and then the tail coming out of it.

This is crazy.

This is not just a chocolate egg.

Everything here is chocolate.

This rock here?
Oh, do you think that's a real rock?

-It's chocolate.
-Oh, it is.

It's all chocolate.

So, Gonzo, how does one eat this?

Crack it open.

-That's the idea--
-Crack it open?

Yeah, that's the idea, for the kids
to play around and just see how it goes.

-That's bananas.
-[Tosi] Okay.

-[Gonzo] She's got a mallet.
-Let's do it.

-Oh my God, this is--
-Okay.

And then you gotta pick--

-He made it to be broken.
-[Gonzo] Exactly.

This is for Sharif and Salomeo.

-[pounding]
-Oh, I got something!

-Hold-- Oh, you got it.
-Go to town--

[Cynthia, Tosi exclaiming]

[Tosi] Wait.

-That's amazing.
-Gonzo.

-There's an egg inside?
-There's two more surprises inside.

[Tosi] Oh my God.

-'Kay.
-[Gonzo] Are you ready?

[Tosi exclaiming]

-All right.
-[Cynthia] Oh, that's so cool.

-My gosh.
-Dried strawberries.

So they have different flavor profiles.

That one is strawberry chocolate,
that one is milk chocolate.

Gonzo, I am just so amazed
that you executed this so flawlessly.

It only has that structure of shattering
when it's crystallized properly,

and that's just from technique.

What do you think about the taste?

Oh my God. That is really good.

Like, you just have every level
of cool here.

-It's like an edible fantasy.
-That's what we're going for.

Cynthia, come with me. Let's go.

Bye, Gonzo.

-Bye.
-Bye.

All right, Bake Squad, I gotta say,

I'm so impressed with each of you today.

The sky was the limit.

I know it was a rocky road
to get all the way there,

but you arrived just in time
for our guest of honor.

Cynthia, it all comes down to you.

Which Bake Squad team member's
showstopping masterpiece have you chosen

for Sharif and Salomeo's birthday party?

Well, in terms of surprise factor,

I don't think it'll be like anything
that they could ever even imagine.

I think it's something that they both love

that will bring them together.

It was just, like,
something fun and interactive,

and it's something
that visually is an eye-catcher.

And it tasted amazing.

[chuckling]

All right, Cynthia, let's do this.

Okay, so the winner,
or the one I've chosen,

'cause you all are winners, is…

Gonzo.

[all cheering]

Gonzo!

[Tosi] All right, get down here!

-I need a photo! Let's go, you two!
-Give me a hug.

-Thank you.
-Thank you.

-One, two, three!
-Go, Gonzo.

-Gonzo, congratulations!
-[Gonzo] Thank you so much.

-This is awesome.
-Cynthia, tell Gonzo what it was.

I think it's the--
Being able to be interactive with it.

-My children will both be stars.
-Yeah.

Breaking it open,
that was the most coolest part.

Cynthia, you have a party
to get ready for, party queen.

-Sir, for you. Congratulations.
-Thank you so much.

Also, tricky part is, you gotta
make this one more time, my friend.

One more time. Yeah! I'm loving this!

-Thank you.
-Bye.

-No big deal.
-No big deal.

-You're a pro.
-I'm gonna put this up.

You know it.

[Christophe] Super Gonzo!

Yeah!

Yeah!

[all cheering]

All right.

[Tosi] Y'all, how incredible was that?

[Ashley] That was so cool.

[indistinct chatter in distance]

[kids chattering happily]

[upbeat pop music playing]

[dinosaur roaring]

[cheering]

Today is the big day.
We're celebrating Sharif and Salomeo.

[kids] Happy birthday!

[Cynthia] Their closest friends are here,
and family, relatives.

The Bake Squad hooked your girl up.

Are you ready?

Three, two, one.

[all] Surprise!

Whoo!

That's epic!

[Sharif] That's one of the best cakes
I've ever seen in my life.

Dang.

[Cynthia] Okay, you can crack it open.

[partygoer] Oh!

[Sharif] The chocolate egg
tasted delicious.

You can't even describe it.

[Cynthia] Isn't this
the coolest thing you've ever seen?

Thank you, Bake Squad.

This is one of the best birthdays,

like, that's ever happened in humanity.

It's perfect.

[all] Thank you, Bake Squad!

[all cheering]
