So when do the auditions begin?

Auditions start tomorrow,

and we are so excited, .
You have no idea.

Singers from all across

the country

are looking for the opportunity
to write their own future,

and American Idol
is that opportunity.

I'm a strawberry farmer,

but the dream is to be
an artist and pursue music.

- I'm doing this.
- For my brothers.

I dream to be a role model

for my sisters.

All right, let's go!
Next American Idol!

Yeah, as judges on Idol,

we're always looking for

great artists that are willing
to take that first step.

It's a very difficult
thing to do,

to put yourself out there.

But these stars in the making
have to trust in themselves.

I'm here to show

the world my gift.

- I wanna make music.
- My career.

I'm here to show

you can change your life

and rise as high
as you're willing to dream.

This season,

watch those dreams take flight.

This is the place
where superstars are born.

Because this is American Idol.

Be right back.
Going to be a star.

Idol! Idol! Idol!

Idol! Idol!

Another chapter of

American Idol history begins...

Are you guys ready
for American Idol?

As we gear up to comb

every corner of the country,

looking for the next
best thing in music...

giving everyone

a chance to own

a piece of the American dream
1 I work as a janitor.

- I'm a full-time.
- Funeral singer.

We have two stoplights

and a Piggly Wiggly.

Have a good day out there.

I came here with

my mom and my egg donor.

I'm a Mystic Death
creature vocalist

hailing from Buffalo, New York.

Once again, Katy, Luke, and

Lionel have a front-row seat

to the greatest stage
on the planet.

I feel more excited
about this year.

The talent...

- My God.
- You've got one of

the most unique voices
I've ever heard in my life.

You just be you,

and America will love you
through it all.

We're having

a hell of a good time

sharing this dream together.

My God.

No!

You're going to Hollywood!
My God.

It's uncomfortable. I'll be,

just sliding over here. Whoo!

No!

I think I need to check
into a home somewhere.

American Idol tells the story

of these kids' struggles
to get here.

You're the reminder
that just how blessed we are.

And when I hear

an amazing audition,

it makes me believe in music
all over again.

Ooh.

Aw.

I've never seen Lionel
cry this much.

You have wrecked me.

Music is so powerful.
It has the ability

to make someone
completely stand still

or make them dance for hours.

Put your wings on.

You're getting ready to fly.

Come on!

You're going to Hollywood!

Yeah! Whoo!

Yeah!

Whoa!

Whoo! Yeah!

I think you're top 10. Whoo!

I'm in the presence
of greatness.

Let's get this party started.

We are here

in Louisville, Kentucky,

getting ready to see some
of the greatest talent ever.

I'm excited.
And the view is spectacular

of the Ohio River. Ohio?

What's round on the ends
and high in the middle?

What? Ohio.

My name's Walker Burroughs,
I'm 20 years old,

and I'm from
Birmingham, Alabama.

Here is your official sticker.

Thank you.

I'm here with my parents,

my mom and dad,
David and Colleen Burroughs.

You're doing a great job.

My parents have been

supportive of me
pursuing this opportunity.

There he is.

I would be terrified and...
Well, I already am terrified,

but I would be petrified
and way more terrified

if they weren't here.

Mom. Mom's... Mom's
Lionel Richie button fell.

My button fell on the floor.

My mom loves Lionel.

I love Lionel
because my mom loves Lionel.

That's who we listened to
together growing up.

Welcome to the Idol auditions.
Yes, sir.

You excited? Yeah. I'm pumped.

When I walk into
the judge room today,

I have no clue
what I'm going to experience.

We gotta get
this brother outta here.

- Absolutely. Hi.
- What's up?

- Tell us who you is, who you are.
- Hey!

My name is Walker Burroughs.
I'm 20 years old,

from Birmingham, Alabama.

Absolutely.

You heard that one? I haven't.

I apologize. It's okay.

What do you do down there
in Birmingham?

Well, I'm a student
at Belmont University.

- Perfect.
- I'm a sophomore.

What do you want to sing for us?

I'm gonna sing "Love Like This"
by Ben Rector.

- All right. Let's do it.
- Yes, sir.

- My.
- On the ivories.

I love this.

Okay.

All right.

Walker. Hail to Belmont, okay.

Thank you. Great job.

Wow. That is just so natural

and cool and effortless
and dope.

Yeah.
Walker, you have this, like,

Ben Folds, Billy Joel...

- I was gonna say, a little Billy...
- Randy New.

Yeah, very Randy New.

Um, I think

you're top 10 material.

I do too. Good heavens.

- "Good heavens."
- I think

there's gonna be
some people at home

just being captivated by you.

Yep. The possibilities

of all of your talent
is just amazing.

You remind me
how untalented I am.

No, I don't wanna hear that.

No, you have a super-pro vibe.

Thank you.
You wouldn't happen to know

any Lionel Richie songs,
would you?

- May I?
- Certainly.

Please. Really?

I love that. I'm a giant fan.

Do you have a favorite song?

I like, um,
"I Do Love You Still,"

but that was the Commodores.

Right.
And I liked "Hello" and...

"Brick House."
That's my favorite.

That's Commodores. I know,

but it's still the band.

- Look at him!
- Aw, look.

He's got the face.
And you've got the face.

Times. Yes.

Whoo!

That's all right.
Don't worry about it.

You know what? Know what?
I'm very, very proud of you.

And... And more importantly,
I'm excited for you

because I wanna put you

in front of some talent

and blow the competition
away, all right?

Let's vote, you guys. All right.

Pick your choice.
You get to pick one.

- Pick your choice.
- Three, two, one...

You're going to Hollywood!

My gosh, and you're a ginger?

I didn't even see it up close.
I am.

Y'all are all so beautiful.

You're going extinct.
You're talented, all right?

I love it.
"You're going extinct."

Can I give you a hug? Yeah.

They don't know
you're coming, so go.

My key card worked.

My goodness!
Are these your parents

- or just strangers?
- My God.

This is your mom and dad? Gosh.

Wait.
Um, my mom bought this button

for today. You've got...

You are done. Stop it right...

She's dying right now.

This guy.
You raised your kid so well,

Mom and Dad. We did, we did.

You got a... Y'all got
a specially talented kid.

I'm telling you.

Very, very talented. My God!

Yeah, just knocked my socks off.

- Thank you.
- Bye, you guys.

Bye. It's so great.

I'm sorry. Are you running
to Hollywood?

I'm here. I'm gonna
run to Hollywood.

What a perfect, unassuming...

He is bad, bad boy.

Drink it in.
Here we go. Let's go.

- Let's go.
- Whoo!

Hollywood! All right, bye.

I got to sing "Hello"
with Lionel Richie...

and I made my mother tear up,

and that makes me a happy boy.

I am a happy, happy boy.

So Idol is off

to a running start,

as Walker lands the first
golden ticket of the year.

Idol! Idol! Idol!

Tonight is an Idol

judging first,

as we set up shop in Idaho.

The contestants are on the lake

in the holding room

waiting for their big moment
with the judges.

American Idol
has never been to Idaho.

That means there's

diamonds to be found.

And maybe some beer

and some moose.

Wait a minute.
This is all wrong.

It's about
the potato here, right?

It's about the potato. Come on.

- You know,
- potatoes can be mashed,

They can come scalloped,
baked, fried,

or...

These are so good. I need these.

Doesn't matter what kind.

If it's potato chips,
I'll eat it.

My name's Johanna Jones.

I'm 23 years old,
from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Whoo!

I've always just thought
that Katy Perry was the coolest.

My friends and I always
thought that

if we ever met her
that we'd be best friends.

I'm excited to do this.
I'm thrilled. I can't wait.

Ha!

Ha!

- Hi. Hi!
- All right.

How's it going? How are you?

Wow. So good.

So good. My gosh. Wow.

Those eyes are so blue. Thanks.

They're so blue...
I have my dad's eyes.

Tell us who you are.
My name's Johanna Jones.

I'm 23, from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Did you grow up there?
Born and raised.

- So were my parents. Really?
- Wow.

I like that smoky smell
of the casinos.

That's your home smell?

That's my home smell.
If I smell that...

I work at fast food,
and in the drive-through...

What fast food? In-N-Out Burger.

JOHANNA I know!

I can cook 'em.

I'm on the grill,
flipping the burgers

and doing all that good stuff.

I can make a mean burger.
You said my safeword.

Sorry... The grilled onions.

It's all right.

I don't do grilled.
I do raw onions.

Where do you work?
Are you at the window?

I cook 'em. Yeah. You cook?

Can I tell you one thing

that's kind of sweet?

I met my boyfriend
over In-N-Out.

You did?
We were at the Golden Globes,

and we... We weren't together.

And... And so I had my security
guard grab 10 In-N-Outs.

- My gosh.
- And all the sudden,

I see my boyfriend's hand...

He wasn't sitting at our table...

He just swoops in,
and he grabs it, and I'm like

"Hey, that's my burger."

"You're on the other end
of that hand."

Yeah, I did.

In-N-Out creates true love.

It really does. We really do.

All right. All right.

What do you when
you get ready to sing?

This is a unique thing,
but I eat potato chips.

'Cause the thing is...
What? Are you my spirit animal?

'Cause I literally
just had a bag.

Really? I love them.
I did! Those are for later.

The salt helps
with inflammation.

That is the oldest trick
in the book.

I used that when I was singing...

She's heard it.
Nobody's ever heard it.

Which do you want,
sour cream or classic?

Plain. Just classic. Yes.

I have never heard of that.
It's a real thing.

Eat it. I'm gonna

time you. Ready?

The whole bag? The whole bag.

Yeah. Go!

One, two, three, four,

five, six, seven,
eight, nine, 10.

Whoa! Aah!

No. This is...
Wait, I can't do that.

This is...

Ladies and gentlemen,

we have a winner.

Katy? Katy?

- You all right?
- I'm all right.

You should sing now.
I haven't finished mine.

You guys won. Sing!

Okay, I'll sing.

Um... I love this.

There's never a dull moment.

Okay. All right. Come on in.

This is Alan, and I love him.

Alan! Welcome, Alan, welcome.

Right there, Alan, on the side.
All right. Yeah.

There we go.

Are you in love? Absolutely.

Are you okay?

I'm checking
the whole thing out.

I'm still intrigued by this guy.

I love him! Shall I start?

Go ahead.

Are you okay?

Are you all right?
He's gone, he's gone.

You... Yeah, but, you should
look right at the...

Turn toward the camera
and see what you look like.

You've got a potato chip
right on your nose.

- Right on your nose.
- He does.

How long's it been there?

Okay.

Johanna Jones.

- Yes.
- I'm scared for you.

The job you have
worked so hard for,

you will have to quit.

In the business,

that's called the package.

Package. Your control,

your ability to sell it to us.

I'm telling you,
it was mesmerizing.

You've got the touch.
You got a touch.

- I'm gonna...
- Okay?

- That's good.
- I'm gonna cry.

That's very good. We love this.

Thank you. I'm gonna cry.

We're all crying over here.

It's probably the onions.
Probably.

So Johanna, yeah, I mean,

big-time opportunity
here for you. Big-time.

You know, being
an all-American girl

flipping burgers...

- Amen.
- All right, let's vote.

Three, two, one...

- Double-Double!
- You're going to...

Sorry. I'm so sorry.

Three, two, one...

You're going to Hollywood!

My God.

Can they just hold
your position?

Probably. I think
I can go back whenever.

I'll fill in.

You just show up for me.

I've already sang enough.

Congratulations, Cinderella.

Congratulations, all right?

You're going to the ball.

I'm going...

I'm speechless.
I don't know what to say.

Those burgers are gonna burn,

'cause this girl's
going to Hollywood!

Whoo! Yeah!

So potato chips make for

a crisp approach
to the auditions.

But that doesn't guarantee

your golden ticket
is in the bag.

- You wanna practice.
- A little bit?

Yeah, I will.
I'm gonna sing the song,

hope for the best.

You've been working for this.

Yeah, I know.

Your recipe for success

might not have
the right ingredients.

I'm gonna have to be
a no for right now.

My answer's gonna be
a promising no.

It's not because
you don't have it.

It's just that you're not ready.

I just worked really hard

to be here,

and I'm just really upset
that I can't continue on,

but... it's okay.

There's always next year.

That didn't go well. Poor baby.

It's still really hard

to tell these kids no.

It breaks their heart.
It's their dream.

But sometimes, their purpose
is not American Idol,

so we have to be extremely
compassionate about it.

Because, in life,

the chips don't always
fall in your favor.

- Hey!
- Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

My. Ha, ha.

Welcome. How are you feeling?

I'm just... This is it.

I'm ready. I can go home now.

- Aw.
- Like, bye.

That's so great.

Tell us who you are,
where you're from.

Um, my name's Khalifa Wilson.

Um, I go by the name
"Kai the Singer,"

'cause "Khalifa" was
pretty much taken.

The old Wiz messed
that one up for you.

He did. He just snatched it.

I'm 19 years old,

and I'm from Kingstree,
South Carolina.

So tell us about
your background.

Um, I grew up kind of rough,

but I wouldn't
consider it rough.

Um...

Hoo.

My childhood, - we were, like,

In and out of shelters
and, like, hotels.

We were even homeless
once and, like,

living in the car,
but I thank God for the car.

I didn't really see it
as a struggle until

you got to school,
and the kids was like

"Look what you got on."

If you're living it,
it doesn't seem like a struggle.

You're just living.
It just seems like life.

That was, like,
all through childhood.

It still is tough,

financially.

There's eight people
in the house now.

Only two of my brothers
have beds,

and it's, like, a bunk bed.

There's not even a couch.

There's, like...
Like, you know the picnic...

Like, the foldable chairs?

We have those
and, like, a table.

Well, we recently got, like,
this air mattress thing,

so I think
three of them sleep on that.

But I, like,
be in my room in, like,

a blanket and just wrap up.

But it's okay.
I'm thankful for it.

And I don't want
to get emotional.

Hoo.

You kind of get tired of

seeing your family struggle,

and it's, like, everybody
wants you to go to college

and be something, but it takes
money to go to college,

and I'm kind of
behind on that, but...

If this, like, could just
blow up, you know...

that would be nice.

Yeah. Ha, ha.

- What a beauty.
- It is you're here.

Whatever you've been through,

that smile on your face
cancels everything out, okay?

Aw. Thank you. Ha, ha.

What are you gonna do?

Ed Sheeran, "Thinking Out Loud."

Very good.

- Hoo.
- Take your time.

Get myself together here.
Take a deep breath.

Okay, very good.

Kai. All right.

Just clap and keep singing.

All right, do me a favor.

Take a deep breath.

Hoo.

Give me another one.

The next one is on the keyboard.

- Fantastic.
- Okay.

Go right over there and do it.

Thank you so much, love.
So much.

Come back to the center here.

Put those feet
flat on the floor.

Compose yourself, darling.

Thank you. Ha, ha.

- Sorry.
- That's quite all right.

You've just got such an...
A beautiful soul.

Thank you.
When you got on the piano,

you kind of evolved
right before our eyes,

and I love... I love
that you changed that lyric.

It was so...

It was so beautiful.
It made me tear up.

Thank you.
'Cause it's so authentic.

When you got on the piano,

it truly started stirring

y, y emotions in me.

Yeah. Thank you.

And quite frankly,

I don't know
how kids like you...

I don't know how you pony up
and make it here.

Amen. My church.

Your church sent you here?
Yeah, just like...

Like, half the church.
So sweet. So sweet.

So sweet. So sweet.

- No.
- Well, you know,

just hearing you sing with...

I know.

With the real life in there,

and you're one of those kids

that can do two chords...

Yeah. And just sing

and-and move mountains.

You can do that. Yes, sir.

- So...
- Come on, Katy, now.

One of us gotta be strong here.

You got me crying,

you crying,

everybody's crying. No, no.

Listen, I gotta tell you,

you know, I don't want to
compare our situations,

but I was raised
in the church too, and...

I didn't grow up

with any money,

and money was always
the problem.

It was the cause of everything

not great in my life.
Yes, ma'am.

We had food stamps
and ate at the food bank,

all of that stuff,

'cause my parents
were traveling ministers.

And so, when I was 13,

the church bought me a guitar.

That's where
I got that one from.

Exactly. And so I relate
to what you're saying,

and I think it's so beautiful,
and I think, you know,

it doesn't really matter
where you come from,

and I know it's so hard,
this struggle.

And you're an inspiration
to so y people

by getting here today.

Yes, ma'am. Thank you.

You are here for a reason
and a purpose.

God can only do for you
what he can do through you.

Amen. Preach, Father Lionel!

Amen.

Young lady, I want you
to stand forward.

We have something we wanna say.

My...

You're going to Hollywood.

No!

Yes.

Is this the family?

How are you?

Mom, Dad...

we have something
we wanna tell you.

I can't even talk.

You're going to Hollywood.

My God!

There you go.

God bless you.
Take your dream home.

We'll see you in Hollywood.

I'm going to Hollywood, y'all.

Cleanup on American Aisle.

Cleanup on American Aisle.

When your dream depends on
how much money you have,

there's not much
you can do, but...

this is just...
It just proves it all wrong.

Look. Just... Just look.

I'm just so thankful right now.

People believe in me,
and, you know, it paid off.

So Kai's life has made

a dramatic upturn...

as we head downtown

in New York City,

where dreamers come to turn

their highest hopes
into a reality.

Last season...

We found some of
our biggest talents

- in New York City.
- New York.

Yeah, we found Maddie,
our winner.

- Catie Turner was here.
- Yeah.

Diamonds in the rough.

So no pressure for

this year's Idol hopefuls.

This is New York. We're here!
Whoo!

Our judges are ready to get

down to the business of show.

New York. We're back.
Love this town.

But as they settle in

for the day,

this big-city showbiz life

has left this contestant
a little off his mark.

It's a little low there.

Hello. Mic check.

I'm Tyler Mitchell,
and I'm 26 years old.

I've never done anything
like this before.

This is nerve-racking, really.

It's crazy.

This way?

That one?

This way?

This way? Okay.

I can't get it.

I'm not used to cameras
and lights and action,

but, you know,
I better get used to it

if I wanna do this.

What does your family say
when you sing?

They say, "You got
a God-given talent",

and you need to use it."

All right, well, good luck.

Thank you. Nice to meet you.

Let's get you in the door.

Hey, y'all.

Hey, now. What's up?

Whoa! Hello.

That's a right there.

So, what's your name?

Tyler Mitchell. Tyler Mitchell.

- Will you come here for one second?
- I will.

I wanna touch your hand
and see how small mine is

compared to yours. All right.

- Whoa.
- Wow!

How tall are you? 6'4".

Yeah, yeah. Big boy.

I got a twin brother, also.
Shut up.

And I got two older brothers.

We're all in
the oil field, working.

Is... Is your mom still with us

after that childbirth?
Yes, she is.

Yeah. She is.

Yep.

Okay, Tyler Mitchell.
Where are you from?

I'm from Florien, Louisiana.

What do you do for fun,

besides arm wrestle?

Huntin', fishin',
and lovin' every day.

There he is, right down there.

Yeah.

First time to New York City?

- First time.
- Wow. What do you think?

Mind-blowing.

Yeah. It's crazy.

So why are you
auditioning today?

I'm here 'cause I've been told
I've got a God-given talent,

and I'd like to show it off.

What are you gonna sing?

Vince Gill,
"Whenever You Come Around."

Go for it. Love Vince.

Holy crap.

What a special moment.

Yeah.

Have you performed much?

Not much. A few times.

Why?

Stubborn.

I guess having the fear.
Fear of what?

Forgetting a lyric or...
Who cares?

- We do it every night.
- You could sing gibberish,

and it would be great.

- Thank you.
- I mean, literally,

a star is born.

Yeah. Thank you.

Tyler, you're in
the oil business.

Yes. Yes, sir, the oil field.

Well, let me tell you
what you did

on your audition here, okay?

You struck oil.

- Whoo!
- You woke us up.

And that's exactly what
a star is supposed to do.

- Yes, sir.
- Okay? Congratulations.

Thank you.

Tyler, we don't need
to tell you anything,

but you just be you. Yes, sir.

Smile through
the awkward times...

and America will
love you through it all.

Yeah. Thank you.

Tyler, you have nothing to fear.

Yes, ma'am.

Believe in yourself, 'cause
you're gonna go all the way.

Yeah. It's a yes.

Yes. Whoo!

Put your wings on.

You're getting ready to fly.

Whoo! It's a yes for me.

You're going to Hollywood!

Whoo! .
Can I come over there?

Please!
You got to pick your thing up.

Thanks. Congratulations.

Congratulations.
You can hold this.

- Whoo.
- Yeah, you hold that.

Great job.

Thank you. Great job.

Thanks. Thank y'all.

See you in Hollywood.

See you in Hollywood. See y'all.

That's what it's all
about right there, kiddo.

Whoo. Whoo!

I knew it.

Thank you. Thank you.

Hey! Hey.

Mr. Seacrest!
Somebody's going to Hollywood.

- Hey.
- No way!

I knew it. I knew it

I feel like a weight has been
lifted off my shoulders.

I've been telling him for years
that he was good enough,

people would love him,
and he finally sees.

And he finally listened to you.

This is probably
the best day of my life,

just because I made my family
and my wife proud.

You did it. I know.

Can you believe it? I can't.

So Tyler's family gave him

all the support he needed
to get to Hollywood.

How's it going?

How you doing?

Good. How are you doing?
Pretty good.

Nice to meet you.
My name's VoKillz.

My name is Connie.
Nice to meet you.

How's it going?
Ethan Fingold here,

Mystic Death creature vocalist

hailing from Buffalo, New York,

also known as VoKillz.

VoKillz!

What's a Mystic Death
creature vocalist?

Um, me, the creature. Right.

But you seem like a nice guy.

I'm a pretty good-hearted dude.

Who are you here for?
A son or a daughter?

Son is auditioning.
That's awesome.

It's time to summon

the dark energy.

So, what's... What's your gig?

I'm a Mystic Death
creature vocalist

hailing from Buffalo, New York...

Buffalo? Buffalo, yes.

I'm from Long Island. Nice.

I'm not a serial killer
or anything like that.

I just created
a new genre called.

Mystic Death trap metal.

- You want to check out the mask?
- Yeah.

What's the sound you make?

I don't think I can do that.

That's all right.
You get used to it.

You scared the heck out of me
when you came in,

- but you're a really nice guy.
- I'm sorry.

American Idol!

Pain, pain.

Wow. What a day,

what a day.

Boy.

Lord.

We're not falling for it again.
That's not good.

Is that a snake in there?

I will be halfway - to Atlanta.

If that thing comes out.

Do I know this person?

What do you want me to do?

You want to give this to me?

Is there anything that
has a heartbeat in it?

No, the heart's dead.

No. God.

Hell, no.

I rebuke you, Satan!

Okay, whatever. Bring it.

I just hate this feeling.

Got you, Katy.

You open it, Luke.

Right about there...

God.

Damn it.

Ooh. It's a necklace.

How you all doing?

That was quite intense.

- Why did...?
- Thank you.

If this is a piece of jewelry,

you made it out to be
a dead rat.

Did you put a spell on this?

Only for you.

Okay.

I'm kidding.

I'm gonna give this to you

for good luck, just for now.

Are... You're gonna come
pick it up on your way...

Yes, yes. This is for
you guys for good luck.

Who are you? My name is VoKillz.

I came to give you guys
some magic today.

Um, okay. Well, I'm really

excited and terrified.

What are you gonna sing?

I will be singing
an original song

called "American Creature."

- "American Creature."
- Yes.

All right. Let's do this.

One second.

All right.

You brought your own... Let's go!

Hell, yes.

Heavens, no.

That was amazing.

You guys are amazing.

Yeah. Y'all okay?

I'm real safe down here.

- You guys all right?
- Everything's good.

VoKillz... I'll start.

That is, like...

really different.

It's, like, screamo.
Does your voice get tired?

Sometimes. If I do it
for multiple days

when I'm going on tour
or whatnot...

- You go on tour?
- I have not yet,

but I would like to go on tour.

Luke, what do you think?

Um, listen, I mean...

I was the only one
that rode the wave of...

It's very unique,

and I'm sure you can get

a badass mosh pit going
and a lot...

Yeah! Yeah, yeah.

A lot of... A lot of followers.

Lionel, what do you think?

I-I would like to say
everything was perfect

until I started thinking, now,

when you start doing duets

with the other contestants...

how's that gonna look?

Right.

So I'm thinking that,

this is not your lane.

But, , you got it down
for the other lane.

Okay. Let's vote.

Yes or no?

It's gonna be a no for me
this time around.

It's gonna be a yes for me.

It's gonna be a...

no for me.

Aw!

Keep rocking.

That hurts my voice.

. Thank you so much.

Thank you, guys.

Thank you. Thank you so much.

Thank you very much.

Yep.

Security. Thank you, guys.

- Anytime. Thank you.
- Security.

- This is for you.
- Yes.

Love you guys. Thank you.

Take care. This is for you.

American Idol 2019,

Let's go!

He needs to be the WWE...

Let's do it.

Is that coast clear, guys?

Someone take this bad thing.

I don't want this omen.

Katy Perry, I love you.

Thank you.

You're the only one
that said yes.

Lionel and Luke,
unfortunately, was a...

no!

I said yes 'cause
I don't want him

to murder me. I noticed that.

Y'all keep throwing me
to the dang... To the wolves.

Whoo!

Sorry, ha, ha.

My name is Margie Mays.
I am from Wilmington, Delaware.

It's just always been my thing,
is, when I get nervous, I burp.

I burped a lot today.

My whole life,
I'm dreaming of this,

and this is what
I'm gonna be remembered for.

Go, Margie. Yay.

My family,
we watch American Idol.

Who didn't watch American Idol?

Like, honey,

I am literally living
my childhood dream

sitting here right now.

This is what you've been
living for your whole life.

My dad, he's a doctor.

I come from a family of doctors.

It's not a musical family.

Yeah, just be relaxed.

It's a big deal he's here.

If you just do a mediocre job,

you're gonna kick butt.

How you feeling about going in?

I'm so excited, and so nervous,

I think I'm gonna throw up

and go to the bathroom
in my pants.

Whatever happens, happens.
I know.

You can't control it. I know.

All you can do is
just go for it.

Leave it all in there.

You are so nice. Thank you.

Hi. Here comes some energy.

Wow! I'm sorry,
this is very cool.

Okay.

So tell us who you are,
where you're from.

I'm... Name... Blah, blah.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Okay.

My name is Margie M...

- Okay.
- Wait, wait, wait.

What the heck
is happening to me?

This has been the coolest day.
I haven't even sung for you.

You're awesome.

Did you just make a box
over your head?

I saw that. Yeah. Yeah.

So you have yet
to finish your name.

My name is Margie Mays,
I'm 25 years old...

Is that your real name?
Yeah. Margie Mays.

I've never seen anybody
with so much energy.

Okay. How y cups of coffee

did you drink today? I had...

I had a cup. I had a cup. A cup?

Don't ever drink coffee again.

You guys are crazy!

Let's do this.

Okay.

All right. Hope I don't
forget the words.

I like this. This is your spot.
Yes. I'm just...

Are you scared? Are you okay?

I'm totally afraid of you.

Marjorie? Yes, ma'am?

Do you know where I live?

I'm... Never been more
parched in my life, but...

Whoo!

Hey. Whoo!

Margie...

Margie May. May.

- I'm so sweaty.
- My God.

You're literally a star.

I'm gonna cry.

Listen.

This day is too much for me.

It's crazy.

That is what I've dreamed of
my whole life.!

My gosh!
What is happening to me?

What do you think?
You want my honest opinion?

I think I need to check
into a home somewhere.

I don't know. You really?

I don't even know
what that means.

I don't even
know what that means.

- I think that...
- Well, a little bit, but...

I'm burping now.

Why do you burp?
I cannot control the burp.

This might be... She...
Okay, stop.

Ready.

Okay, so, wait.
We got to vote, guys, okay?

Marjorie! Yes.

You can be exactly who you are.

Okay. Just focus on winning

with your voice and letting
your heart shine through.

Yeah. Yeah.

Then when you're not
singing, just be yourself.

And you do... You already
switch in between it.

It goes from, like,
totally insane...

Yeah... To totally pro.

Let's vote. Okay, vote.

I'm a yes.

I'm a yes. Okay.

So I'm gonna give you
a disastrous...

- No!
- You'll pay attention.

No. No. No!

I'm gonna give you a no to...

No! No!!

What? Sorry.

I can't believe
this is happening to me!

I hear screams. That's right.

Watch out.
The door's gonna launch.

Two yeses. Just to scare you

and know the seriousness.
I'm serious.

Tell her. Tell her.

You're going to Hollywood.

Yay.!

I'm crying. Thank you.

Give me that thing.

Thank you.

Don't you want to hug us? Can I?

Don't touch us.

Come on already.

Come to Mama.

My gosh, you're so nice.

I see lights. I see lights.

I'm going to...

That's what

you dream about, right?

And... I dreamed about it.

Been too scared
to dream about it.

Are you speechless?

My God, yeah, I'm speechless.

Whoa. Ha-ha-ha.
It's crazy. Frick!

That's the greatest person
I've ever met.

It was so cool. I'm gonna cry.

It was awesome.

- I did it!
- Yeah!

Welcome back to Idol,

where the judges

are riding high on the talent
they've seen so far.

I think you're top 10.

But as it is

with every season,

the auditions were bound
to hit a low note.

Okay, a-all right.
That's wonderful. Okay.

Wow.

At this point in my career,

I want to just give you
some good advice,

and that is find notes
that you can hit.

That is extremely
artistic, and...

artistic.

Jane, I think
your biggest hurdle

is just your voice.

I don't know what...
I don't know what that is.

You're all about

the full...

delivery.

What are you saying?

Wynn, buddy, for Idol,
, it's a no.

I'm gonna say a no, also.

Is the shirt being on or off
going to affect the vote?

No, no, no. No, no, no. Ooh.

My God.

My God.

God. Look at him.

Hey. Everyone shut up.

I'm gonna give you a yes.

We love everything about you.

Thanks so much.

While not everyone

has the power to communicate

their talent so clearly...

I am... You're weird. Ha-ha-ha.

Our next contestant

was hoping that her dream

wouldn't be lost in translation.

Excuse me. How do I look?

I lived in Vietnam,
and I'm 19 years old.

I moved here
so I can follow my dream.

Best way...
It's the best way, yeah.

I find the best way
to follow my dream.

Become a singer, of course.

When I was in sixth grade,
I heard Whitney Houston.

I just blow my mind,
and I reali...

I realized that,
"This is my passion."

And I wish one day,
I will on that stage.

I was thinking like...

So embarrassed,

but that's the truth.

Yeah, they are just, like

So, maybe, everybody
have a dream, yeah.

And me, I just want to sing.

I'm ready to sing
for the judges. Yes!

Okay.

- You are here.
- Now, that's it.

- Hello.
- How are you?

- I'm loving this.
- I'm so good.

I cannot believe I'm here now.

Welcome to the show.

Thank you so much.
Tell us who you are.

Yes. My name is Myra Tran.

I'm 19 years old,
and I came from Vietnam.

I'm Vietnamese. Wow.

So great. So tell me
your dream and your story.

When I was a little kid,

my dream has been
being able to sing

in the front of
the American Idol audience.

Wow. And I cannot believe that

I can have the chance right now.

Good for you.
Aw, that's so sweet.

What are you gonna sing?

Yes. Today I'm gonna sing.

"One Night Only"
by Jennifer Hudson.

Goodness gracious. Okay.

We're ready for you. Yes.

God, that's great.

Wow! Wow!

My God.

Wow! You're in high school?

Yes, I'm in high school.
You sing in school?

I'm in a choir after class.

You're in a choir?
No, you are the choir.

- Can you believe that?
- No.

My God. I loved it.

Thank you so much.

How long have you been here?

Just been here in United States
just one year.

- Wow, wow.
- I mean, you're up there

with the Kelly Clarksons
of the world.

Absolutely. My God.

That's the only way
I can say it.

You just need to keep singing.
I think

if you keep singing,
you're really gonna

connect with people.
I think we can really feel

who you are through the music.

I feel like music transcends
language barriers,

and you just showed us that.

There is nothing

- to compare you to.
- Right.

I've never heard
of a Vietnamese singer

that is as good as her.
I don't know if...

I don't know, but you have
stepped into a zone

that's yours, okay? Yes.

And all I want

you to do

is from now on, rule your zone.

Because you are going places.

Let's all three say it.

You're going to Hollywood!

- Thank you!
- I love it.

Love you, love you,
love you, love you.

I got to give her a hug
on this one. Sorry.

You've come so far.

You're so good.
You're so talented.

Thank you so much.

That was a religious experience.

We are going to...

Hollywood!

Whoo!

- The name of the game.
- Is singing,

And the name of the names
is, well, complicated.

Tell us who you are.
You can call me Skittles.

My name's Bumbly.
My name's Myswell.

Myswell.
Yeah, like "might as well,"

but, you know,
people just zoom through it.

"Myswell." Love it.

My name is Diamond Wily.
I'm Brie.

Brie. Like the cheese.

Zika.

I'm sorry, what? I'm Zika.

Like the virus?
No, no. He doesn't...

No, no, no, no.

- But much friendlier.
- No, Katy, Katy.

It's just his name!
It's just his name, Katy.

- My name is Uché.
- Uché.

But, yeah, the whole thing is.

Uchéchukwu Walter
Ndubizu Egwim Okoli.

- But Uché, as it...
- That's your real name.

I love that the "Walter's" in
there. It's like, "What's up?"

I think my mom
wanted me to, like,

do well with résumés and stuff.

No one's gonna hire you

if your name
is 75,000 letters, so...

Well, thanks, Mom.
You gave us that.

Hello, people. My name is Uché.

Hey. I'm Uché.

What you doing? You working?

Hey, sound guy.

How are you? Remember to smile.

I'm the kind
of performer that, like,

you don't stop looking
till I'm done.

I grew up in the church.

I still am in the church.

God is my...
God is the homey. Ha!

People are very straight
out of the Bible.

They love to judge people.
As, you know, a bi guy,

I know God loves me.
I want everybody else

to know that too.
That positive message,

it's gonna be in my music.

It might not necessarily
be a gospel song.

It might be a sexy pop song.
Ha-ha-ha.

So you're ditching gospel,

and you're going full secular.

- I got to do.
- What I got to do.

I'm trying to reach kids
that have been thrown away

by the church.
Those bi, gay kids who are...

Ooh, bi, gay, okay.

Yeah, who the church
kind of is like

"We're just not
gonna talk about y'all."

I want them to know God
loves you. He can bless you.

That's right.
Come as you are, Uché.

So what are you gonna sing?

I'm gonna sing
"Ain't No Other ,"

Christina Aguilera. Let's go.

Whoa.

- Yeah. All right.
- Yeah?

That's cool. That's... I mean,

where do you do that?
In the mirror?

In the shower.

Honey, you be slippin'.

- In the shower,
- you make it work.

Listen. Okay, now,

here's another exercise.

Okay. Stand still and sing.

I got to catch my breath.

- I noticed.
- It's fine.

All right.
Them squats will get you.

There it is.

Let's take a vote. Okay.

I think you'd be really
spicy to have...

- Spicy.
- In Hollywood.

I'm a yes. Okay.

I'm gonna...
I'm gonna give you a vote

of no... Okay.

Based on I don't know
if the last song

was actually closer to what

your voice is going to be.

Okay, yeah.
So my vote will be no

- this time around.
- Okay.

I started with that song
because it's up-tempo.

- To show your personality.
- To show... Yeah.

I don't know how y
people you had dropping it.

I wanted to give y'all
that first...

you know?

So y'all can know
that that's there.

Luke, what are you thinking?

You can sing,

but I'm a little scared

about how much we may
have to coach you

through this thing.

- I have a really.
- Quick question.

Who is someone that
you aspire to have...?

As an artist?
Yeah, a career like?

- Um, Prince.
- And you can do

- a combin... Prince.
- Prince. Rick James.

Um...

Bobby Brown.

George Clinton, Bootsy Collins.

That's, like, my vibe.
They got that stank.

They use their voices. They're
also legendary performers.

You know, now that
you said that,

I was trying to rack my brain.

It's Bootsy.
It's... You've got it.

I mean, you know, it's...

You want to change your vote?

Yes, I do.

I really do.

You do?

I know this may sound
very strange.

If you can pull off
what you just said,

- you got a shot at this.
- Yeah.

Okay, but you gotta
bring those guys.

- That's a bet.
- Morph 'em, okay?

All right. I'm a yes on you.

- Okay. Cool.
- Love it.

I'm a yes.

- You're going to Hollywood.
- Wow.

You're going - to Hollywood.

Wow. Wow. Hey. So crazy.

Now you gotta bring it. Aw.

Yeah, . Bring it.

Go celebrate. God bless you.

This way, babe. That way.

Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Bro, he said no at first.

Lionel, look, I'mma show you.

Hollywood week, I'mma look you
straight in the face.

I ain't playin'. Ha-ha-ha.

See? Hashtag "God is real."

Bro, Lionel's no
turned to a yes.

Welcome back

to American Idol,

as our cross-country tour
continues

in Denver, Colorado...

- You ready for this?
- I hope so.

- You're ready.
- Where our next hopeful

brought her own crew
of reinforcements.

My name is Laci Kaye Booth,
I'm 23 years old,

I'm from Livingston, Texas,
and I'm a country singer.

I started singing
when I was about 3 years old.

I was always listening

to music with my mom.

I grew up on Shania Twain
and, Dixie Chicks.

My dad was 15, and my mom was 17

when they found out
they were gonna have me.

They lived in
a little, tiny house.

My dad was singing
and off being a musician.

I know it was hard on them.

Laci was around 3

when we got divorced.

Laci means the world to me.

She, um...

She's... It's been
me and her since day one.

- I wasn't around.
- A lot because

I was chasing my dream...
Playing music out,

you know, four or five
nights a week,

be gone weeks at a time.

He would call me, and he'd say

"I'm sorry, baby,
that I have to live this life."

As she got older,
she, you know, questioned,

"Why wasn't my dad in my life?"

I know she...

doesn't regret
that I wasn't there.

But I do.

When I was about 15,

my dad asked me

if I wanted
to go record in Arkansas.

And so we took a road trip.

That was one of

the best weeks of my life.

We just spent
a whole lot of time together.

We really shared

our music interest.

That's what started us

becoming closer again.

I knew that's

what she wanted to do,

no matter how hard it was
for me to watch her do it.

And now I'm so proud of her.

We were always
meant to play together.

She was born into it,

and so was I.
I mean, it's kind of like a...

circle of life, you know?

Music really made up

for that lost time,

and it means the world to me,
because I couldn't ask for

a better family,
a better support system.

How are you? Hi. How are y'all?

- Hi.
- Good.

My gosh. This is crazy.

I'm looking at y'all, going...

We... We feel the same way.
We're like...

"How do you have
the guts to do this?"

So tell us who you are.

I'm Laci Kaye Booth,
I'm 23 years old,

and I'm from Livingston, Texas.

That's a country name.
That's a country name.

So your dad's a Texas artist?

He's a country artist, yes, sir.

How are your nerves? I'm okay.

You're go... You're shaking
a little bit?

What are you singing
for us today?

"Mama Tried" by Merle Haggard.

All right. That's a great song.

Let's hear it. Very good.

- Good deal.
- I would say...

What would you say, Katy?

Um, okay, so, I think
you're the first voice

we've heard that is really

a diamond in the rough. My God.

I don't know if

you believe that about yourself,
but you really got

something different-sounding
than everyone else.

Thank you. You just slayed it.

I mean...
Wow. Thank you so much.

Truly, you have a timbre

or something in your voice...
Yeah. A shake.

Yes, that we didn't see it

from any girl
in your lane last year.

I believe you are
very, very close

to just being a really
world-class...

Hold on. Wait, wait, wait.

I think if she can take the time

and we can help mold her...
I was gonna say.

It's gonna take discovery.
Listen to me.

If you understand how
to hone in on your thing...

Yes, sir.
And don't get psyched out

by everybody else's thing...
Yeah, exactly.

You're gonna be okay.
Thank you so much.

You're going to Hollywood!

You're amazing.
Can I just hug y'all?

- We like hugs.
- My gosh.

We do. Congrats.

Great job. You did great.

They might. Who knows?

Who's this?

Excuse me, security?

My... My God!

This is my dad.
This is your dad?

What's up, Dad?

We need to...

You ought to be
proud of your baby.

There you go.

I get the feeling.
I get the feeling.

Aw, Dad. He's got
tears in his eyes.

- I'm gonna cry.
- That's very good.

Hey. Great job.

Hey, wait. Tell me, tell me.

What do you think?
You believe in her?

Absolutely.

You've heard her

sing so much, right?

You know there's something
special in that voice.

Absolutely. Timeless.

Thank y'all so much.

We'll see you in Hollywood.
Bring it, now.

You been to Hollywood? No.

Get ready. I'm so excited.

They're gonna love you.

I'm living my dream through her.

And I'm happy about that, very.

We're going to Hollywood!

This one's for you, Katy.

- For me?
- Yeah.

I could be your mother.

Love it. Love your flow.

Thank you.
Who are your musical influences?

Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West,

Lionel Richie. Boom!

That's all you need to know.
Okay. Stop.

Hold on. Sit down.
That's all you need.

Hold on. Stop. Sit down.

Name one

Lionel Richie song.

I don't know
a Lionel Richie song.

I'm sorry, Lionel.

From the top of the mountain...

- to the lowest of the valleys.
- It's okay.

I don't even know

how I feel about this.

I'm gonna let them talk,

then I'm gonna come back
to vote.

How you feel right now? Nervous.

I'm very nervous,
but I'm so excited.

I think he's gonna
get that golden ticket.

- You know you're in trouble now, right?
- Yeah.

I still don't like you.

But I think you have
a possibility

of doing something
real serious in this group.

I'mma go for my gut.

I can't even believe that
we're even here to begin with.

Yeah. But the possibility

of meeting Lionel Richie?
I know.

My God. It's crazy.

It's crazy?
It makes you feel cool?

I'm Tiffanne LeMay, I'm 20
years old, and I'm pretty much

only excited to audition
for Lionel today.

He's the one I'm here for.

I really should learn
a little bit about Lionel Richie

- before I go back. Yeah.
- Probably.

He was doing so well,

and all of a sudden,
you just went, poof, crash.

When I walk in
that room today, I'm going

to confess my love
to Lionel Richie,

and hopefully
he'll like me back.

- Hello.
- Hey, now.

- Lionel, listen.
- Okay.

Finally, somebody that...
You know what?

Knows who this guy is. Finally.

Whoa. Lionel, listen, okay?

I have grown up on your music.

Motown was the only thing

that was played
in my house growing up.

Lionel Richie is my...

Like, this is my guy.

Name one song.
"Lady" is my favorite song.

"Lady in Red"? No.

Come on, you know!

Okay, name another song.
Um, "Easy."

I have the whole album
right here.

See, I got to see...

I have your album
here, if you want.

Come on. Lionel Richie.

I got to see that.

Come on. I've dreamed of this.

Hold on, wait. Hold on.

Ask her the question.
What happened?

Who am I? That's Lionel Richie.

Boom!

That's what I'm talking about.
I gotta see that.

- Wait, ready? Hold on.
- Do it.

Boom! That's

Lionel Richie.

Is it signed?
It's an old one, though.

It's something that...
That's how...

You got it signed?
That's how they came.

I would love to have it
really signed.

Where's the Sharpie?

Are you rocking a Daytona?

Come on, .

Can I have that Daytona?
Who taught you about me?

My mom. My mom is... My mom...

Boom! The folks have...
My mom loves you.

Lionel, are you
wearing lip gloss?

Don't even play around.

Does she know Lionel Richie?
Ask the question.

I'm trying to tell you...

That other kid came here...

Hold on. First of all,
who are you?

My name is Tiffanne LeMay.

Tiffanne... T-I...
No, no, I got it, I got it.

You can put "Tiff." It's hard.

You loved sweaters?

- , come on.
- Hey, come on.

If you're not
lying down sideways

it ain't working.

Did you see the popped collar?

Come on.
Compliments to your mother.

I will give them to her.

Now, you put it right here
for good luck, darling.

I sure will. Ooh!

Thank you so much.

He's so happy. Still got it!

He's like this. "Still got it."

You got him his swagger back.

He does. He's got it.

I was going downhill
for a moment.

- Were you?
- Still got it.

We got your back,
so you're good.

What are you gonna sing for us?

I'm gonna sing "The Best Part"
by H.E.R. and Daniel Caesar.

Okay, go ahead.

I knew there was
something about you

when you first walked in,
you know?

About me? Teacher's pet.

Look, she brought
the apple, okay?

She brought the apple.

I love your style
of what you're doing.

And truthfully, I think your...

Your voice is actually
your style,

and I'm loving it. Thank you.

Tiff, I love
your sunny disposition.

I think you've got
a really good voice,

and now you just
need to play to win.

One little thing.
Open your mouth

just a touch more, though.

You're... You kind of
keep it closed

and the enunciation.

What did you just say?

Very good.
All right, let's take a vote.

Lionel? Yeah, no, I'm...

I'm extremely, um, optimistic

that you will rise
to the occasion.

And you're the smartest
person I know

'cause you know who I am.
Thank you very much.

It's a yes. Thank you.

Well, kissing butt
will get you everywhere.

It gets you everything.

Remember that.
That's how I'm here.

That's how we're all here.
Isn't that...?

I'm a yes too.

I'm a yes.

You're going to Hollywood.

Thank you.

Come on, girl.
Thank you so, so, so much.

You know...
Come on, you know, you know.

I'm feeling really, really,
really good right now.

Will you tell 'em
out there who I am?

That's my guy.

Lionel Richie was amazing.

She wants to bring her mother.

Mom, come on, come on.

Mom, this is Lionel Richie.

This is Debra.

I want

to thank you, okay?

For raising her right.
Thank you.

You raised her with
the right values and purpose.

Today could not be better.

Okay, you ready?

I got a golden ticket,

I met Lionel Richie,
my mom met Lionel Richie.

Enjoy, all right? Thank you.

Thank you. Thanks, Mom.

She got a kiss on the cheek.
Today is a great day.

That's what's missing
in the world

Values.

Children not being raised

with the right concept
of good music.

Let's continue on with the show.

That is great. Sorry, sorry.

I heard you have
some homework to do.

Our contestants come

from all walks of life.

But there's one thing

that unites them all...

I wanna be a star.
The hope of becoming

- something greater.
- You're going to Hollywood!

Will the next American Idol

be a small-town boy

with big-city dreams,

a young lady hoping to inspire,

or will it be
our next contestant,

who turns to music
in search of peace?

- Hey.
- What's up?

Hi. How's it going?

What's your name?
My name's Nick.

Cool. Where you from?
I'm from, Nebraska,

but I live in Los Angeles now.

Why are you here?
Tell us everything.

The reason that I'm here today

is, um, for my brothers.

I have two brothers.

Me and my older brother, Zack,

we're only three years apart.

We did everything together.

I would follow him around and,
like, wanted to be like him.

My little brother, Matt,
and I would watch Zack

play video games all night,
and we'd just watch him.

We didn't even wanna play.
We were just so close

that we just wanted to be
in each other's presence.

Zack joined the Air Force,
and he was a crew chief

for F-16s,
and it was just, like,

the most pride
anyone could have.

I'm like,
"That's my big brother."

I was working in L.A.

I got a call from my dad.

My dad said that they lost Zack.

"What do you mean
they lost him?"

And... And he's like,
"He's gone."

I just kept saying

"What do you mean he's gone?"

He had taken his life.

There's no pain like that.

I just remember
I couldn't breathe.

It's like the whole world
felt black.

This is actually,
like, the first time

with everything that
I can, like, talk about it.

After losing Zack,

all I wanted to do was

just feel something
again other than pain.

I got an opportunity
to go to Japan

to teach kids
and be able to perform.

While I was in Japan, I got
another phone call from home

saying that my little brother,
Matthew, had passed away.

He had taken his life, as well.

Going to Japan

is the biggest regret
I've ever had in my life.

It made me feel,
like, selfish, you know?

'Cause I left my little brother
when I could've been there.

Like, all I can think about is

he needed me, and I left him.

Sorry.

Just always remember that
they're there with you,

in your memories, in your heart.

You were always.

Matthew's idol.

For my audition, I brought

my mom, my dad, and my sister.

Having them with me,
it means everything.

There have definitely been times

that I've just
wanted to give up.

But I know my brothers
would want me

to keep pursuing my dream.

They'd be really proud
that I'm here.

Boy...

This is what I love to do,

and I know they wouldn't
want me to stop playing.

I can't quit. I just know

that they would want me
to just keep going.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I appreciate that.
Sorry about your loss.

Wow.

- You ready?
- Nick, we're ready.

We're ready for you.
You've waited all day.

There you go.

There you go. First of all,

I applaud you on the fact

that you just climbed up
out of that hole.

Just know that
I'm very proud of you, okay?

- Thank you.
- Now, for your voice,

there's a wonderful
quality in a voice

that you can't study.
It's called a natural cry.

In our business,

we call that money.

Okay? Nick, you have power

and level in your voice,

and you really started
very small,

'cause I got to hear
the beautiful dynamics

in your voice. Just remember

you've got that beauty,

and don't be afraid
of that beauty.

I think you do
have something there.

What do you think, Luke?

The simplicity of how
you're able to sell your voice

is very, very
understated and nice.

It's very easy to listen to.

You know, as...

I haven't brought this up
on this show,

because I haven't had to,
but as somebody that's...

I've lost both my siblings.

And I-I just applaud you

for keeping a positive attitude

and continuing to... to fight

and just try to be a light

for your parents too, .

Definitely.
That's, like, my main goal.

- Let's take a vote.
- Luke.

Yes. Lionel. Yes.

Katy? Yes, Nick.

You're going to Hollywood.

- You're going.
- To Hollywood, Nick.

Thank you so much.

This means so much.

Listen.
They're shining down on you.

You know that, right? I do.

Aw.

Congrats, y'all.
Thank you so much.

Good job. Thanks, .

Good job.
We'll be praying for you.

I really appreciate it.
Thank you.

Dad. Love you so much, Dad.

He's very talented.

- Thank you very much.
- Be very proud.

You know what - to remember?

It's all right
to cry good tears.

It's all right

to cry good ones.

Big step. Congratulations.

Go celebrate.
Yeah, go celebrate.

Go out and celebrate.
Remember fun.

Happy. Remember fun,

happy, good, good days.

Yes, yes. All right?

There are more to come.
Enjoy those.

God bless you guys. All right?

It means a lot. Of course.

Thank you. You got it.

- So proud of you.
- Thank you.

Love you so much. Love you too.

I love you, sis.

Whoo!

Whoo!

Very proud of him.
He's always been a fighter,

never a quitter.

With everything that
he's been through,

you know, there was times
I was so worried

that he wasn't gonna sing again.

His music and his voice
just fills my heart,

and I'm so glad that
he just got this opportunity.

So proud of him.

Had me crying, .

Had me crying, the whole thing.

Initially,

when I saw this ticket,

all I thought was I wished

that they were here
to hold this with me.

But then I thought, "They are."

Not physically,
but how much I love them

and I've always loved them
and will forever love them.

They're holding it too.
