A Haunting (2005–…): Season 11, Episode 2 - Deliverance in Chicago - full transcript

[eerie music playing]

[narrator] A loving family
living their dream life...

[woman] It felt wonderful
to have a family.

The house brought it
all together.

[narrator] ...find themselves
in a nightmare scenario...

What is it going to do?
What does it want?

[speaking in otherworldly voice]

[narrator] ...when
dark forces move in.

I believed my life was at stake.

[woman screaming]

[narrator] In this world,
there is new evil.

[girl] Someone's in my room.

It lurks in the darkest shadows.

[indistinct whispers]

Between what we see
and the things we fear,

there are doors.

When they are opened...

nightmares become reality.

In the suburbs of Chicago,
Isidro and Sandra Nuno

are living the American dream.

[Sandra] I grew up
in Chicago, Illinois.

Lived here all my life.

[Isidro] I was born in Mexico.

My parents
brought me to Chicago.

I fell in love
with the city, you know?

[narrator] Just blocks
from Lake Michigan,

the newlyweds have purchased
their very first home.

Are you ready for this?
This is going to be great.

[Isidro] We saved a little money
and put our money together.

What attracted me was
the yard, the space.

I always love a space.

[Sandra] It's actually
a three-story,

with an apartment
upstairs to rent.

It was intended
for the family to live

on the main floor and a rental
on the second floor.

[narrator] But although Sandra
should be celebrating her new home,

from day one,
she has an uneasy feeling.

[Sandra] I just never felt
comfortable in that house.

It just didn't appeal to me.

[suspenseful music playing]

- [Isidro] Boo!
- [gasps]

Why are you so scared?

- It's just me.
- I know. I...

This house.

Something just
feels off about it.

[Isidro] We talked about this.
The house is going to pay itself

once we rent
the apartment upstairs.

This is our investment.

It's for us,
it's for our future.

I know.

I just feel like someone's
watching me all the time.

I know it sounds crazy.

Ooh.

[Sandra] He just told me
just to ignore it and just,

if I felt uneasy,
just to say a prayer.

[narrator] As the weeks go by,
Sandra works

on getting the property
ready for renters.

But it appears the upper
apartment is already occupied.

- Hey!
- I saw this lady coming down the stairs.

She was dressed
in all black garb.

It scared me, because
there was nobody up there.

There was no renters.

And then she was gone.

And I was startled, because
I thought, "Who's up there?"

She was just startled.

When she told me that,
I told her I'd never seen her.

[narrator] Soon, Isidro won't be
able to deny something is amiss.

[Isidro] I was actually in the
kitchen doing some cooking...

[voices whispering]

And all of a sudden,
I heard some whispering.

[voice whispering]

They kind of
quieted down a little bit,

but the whispering didn't stop.

I couldn't understand
what they were saying.

[voices whispering]

[eerie music playing]

I could not explain it. I
didn't quite understand it.

[narrator] Not wanting to
scare his wife, Isidro tells no one.

[Sandra] I came home from work.

The front door was open.

We never keep anything open,
everything's always locked.

We live in Chicago,
it's kind of an old habit.

You have to lock
everything behind you.

That's when I got scared thinking,
you know, "Somebody's here."

The windows were open.

Everything was open.
Even the back door was open.

I just started closing the
windows and closing the doors.

[suspenseful music playing]

I looked through every room,
there was nobody there.

[phone dialing]

Isidro, did you
come home from work

and open all the windows
and the doors?

[Sandra] And then he said,
"No, I'm on my way home."

At that point,
I was feeling desperate.

Okay. I'll see you soon.

Hurry.

I just wanted peace in my house.

[Isidro] Back in Mexico,
when I was a little kid,

I grew up in a haunted house.

I grew up hearing those things

and seeing things
out of the ordinary.

I knew there was something
definitely going on in this house.

I did not grow up
in a home like that,

so for me to move into
my home and experience

all these supernatural things,
I was uncomfortable with it.

And I was
thinking of our future.

When we did have kids, I didn't want
them going through the same thing.

[narrator] Believing that
their home might have a ghost,

the Nunos contact a local priest

who agrees to come over
and bless the home.

[priest] I call the archangel.

Defend us in battle.

Be our defense against the
wickedness and snares of the Devil.

[narrator] The blessing
appears to work.

The house is quiet.

And soon, Sandra and Isidro
receive a blessing of their own,

when Sandra becomes pregnant
with twins.

A boy and a girl.

Sadly, three months into the
pregnancy, the boy twin miscarries.

[Sandra] It was sad,
but I was very happy

that my daughter
was still surviving.

It was the most joyous
moment of my life

when I was holding my daughter.

[narrator] Isidro and Sandra
name their baby Sabrina.

Three years later,
they are blessed

with a second daughter, Shannon.

[Sandra] It felt wonderful
to have a family.

And the house
brought it all together.

[narrator] As the years go by,
their home is a happy one...

until the day little Sabrina
receives an unexpected visitor.

I've never spoken
about this to anyone.

[eerie music playing]

[creaking]

[spectral female voice] Hello.

[Sabrina] I remember the hairs
on the back of my neck stood up.

[spectral female voice] Hello.

[eerie music playing]

Hello?

[Sabrina] I was just
staring down there.

I didn't see anything.

[spectral female voice
speaking louder] Hello.

[Sabrina] My first instinct
was to run

and just hide under the covers.

I was just scared.

I just didn't know
what had happened.

I was confused, so I just... I
didn't mention anything at the time.

[narrator] Sandra's mother
moves into the apartment upstairs

to help with the girls.

[Sandra] My girls
always called her Huela.

Huela is an abbreviation
in Spanish. It's Abuela.

But they couldn't pronounce
it, so it became Huela.

[Sabrina] My Huela, she was
like my second mother.

I looked up to her.
I was very close to her.

My Huela was religious.
She was Catholic.

She always thought that,
you know, praying

and having faith, it would make
a difference. A big difference.

It's so beautiful.

Precioso.

Precioso?

Preciosa.

I would go see my Huela
for comfort,

or just if I was having
a bad day, I would go up there

and it would be... it would
be all better. [chuckles]

[suspenseful music playing]

[deep breathing]

I saw my grandmother
standing there.

Huela?

[Sabrina] I was confused,
because she wasn't saying anything.

Huela?

Huela?

And something felt off.

Huela?

[Sabrina] I looked over
to my right.

That's when I saw my actual
grandmother sleeping in bed.

I was extremely terrified.

[screaming]

Huela?

[narrator] Six-year-old
Sabrina Nuno has just had

the shock of her young life
while visiting her grandmother

on the top floor
of her family's home.

[screaming]

[Sabrina] It looked like
a replica of my grandmother.

Just had black eyes, and it just
made this loud noise, like a scream.

[panting]

[banging]

The banging was very loud.

And no one woke up.

It was very terrifying.

It was just very traumatizing,
and it's hard to talk about it.

[narrator] She keeps it
to herself,

never telling
another living soul.

[Sabrina] I didn't
say anything to anybody.

I was still in shock
of what had happened.

I just kept it to myself.

[Shannon] Wake up, Sabrina.

Shannon! You scared me!

That's what little sisters
are for. Come on, get up.

Hey, give me that back!

[narrator] The years go by, and
the girls' grandmother passes away.

The apartment on
the top floor sits empty.

There she is, the queen
herself, Sabrina Nuno.

You're so dumb.

My family was
pretty happy growing up.

Pretty normal.

[Sabrina] Okay, listen.

Regular hide-and-seek rules,
except you, the seeker,

- is only allowed to find me by video.
- Okay.

We were very busy
with our lives.

And we were into
the daily routines of life.

Ten, nine, eight, seven...

[Shannon] We were playing
hide-and-seek in the back yard.

Four, three, two, one.

Come on, I found you.

[Shannon] I saw somebody
walking, so I started calling out,

saying, like,
"Hey, I found you."

What? What are you
talking about? I'm over here.

[Sabrina] My sister
was terrified.

What's wrong?

- I saw someone over there.
- [Sabrina] She was scared.

When we looked at it,
it was a shadow.

Form of a man.

What is that?

I don't know.

[Sabrina] It looked
like a person.

Come on. Forget about it.

Let's go inside.

[Sabrina] I feel like it was
very traumatizing,

especially not understanding
what was going on.

[Shannon] I didn't tell anyone,

but things started
to happen more and more.

Sometimes, in the house, you just
always feel like you're being watched.

[footsteps]

[creaking]

I heard footsteps
coming from the kitchen.

I just remember the heavy
footsteps and the heavy work boots.

[narrator] At night, Shannon now
refuses to sleep in her own room,

so her mother
tucks her in downstairs.

[Shannon] I was really scared.

I'd grab my pillow and my blanket and
I would just go to sleep on the couch.

[narrator] Meanwhile,
in Sabrina's room,

the paranormal activity
is just starting to stir.

[Sabrina] I was sleeping
by the door side of the room.

[spectral female voice]
Help me.

[eerie music playing]

Help me.

[screaming]

[narrator] The Nuno family is experiencing
a series of unexplainable events.

[spectral female voice]
Help me.

[narrator] The eldest daughter,
Sabrina, is the latest target.

[screaming]

[Sabrina] I don't
remember seeing anything

other than his face,
because he was so close to me.

To this day, I have no idea
why he was so close to my face.

I was about 15 years old
when I finally spoke about it

and told them everything.

My mom was very scared.
My dad was upset.

He didn't want me
to go through that.

We need to tell you something.

I don't know how to say this.

We're seeing ghosts.

Have you see them too?

Yeah. We have heard
a thing or two.

[Sabrina] My mom did believe
that the house was haunted

due to her own
personal experiences.

We need help.
The girls are scared.

We understood, me and my wife,

and actually my whole family,

that there was a big
problem in the house,

that it wasn't going
to go away easy.

[narrator] Growing up in Mexico,

Isidro's mother
often saw ghosts.

My mother, she could see
things, you know, very vivid.

[Isidro sighs] Let's just...

Let's just get some sleep,
okay? Tomorrow...

Manana, we'll find somebody
to help us out with this, all right?

All right, let's go to bed.

Come on, let's get some rest.
Come on, girls.

All right. It'll be fine.
Okay.

[narrator] While Isidro
searches for help,

Sandra looks into
the home's history.

Maybe something in its past
is to blame for the haunting.

She speaks to a neighbor
who grew up next door.

[Sandra] I started
talking to my neighbor.

She's the one that told me
that it was built in 1900,

and the original owner
was an Italian man.

He built the house.

The houses only had two owners,

the man and wife
who built the house,

and then their daughter,
who took it after they died.

What do you remember about them?

- Mmm. That they loved the house.
- Ah.

[Sandra] They loved their home.

They were
always planting outside,

they were always doing
something to the home.

The wife died in the house.

In your bedroom, actually.

In my bedroom?

Mmm.

[Sandra] I was startled.

[narrator] Sandra now believes
the ghosts her family has seen

are the original
owners of her home.

I've always been very open
to accepting the fact

that spirits do live
among us or walk among us,

and I knew that
when people passed away

and they were attached to, say,
their home, they seem to pop up.

They were attached to the house.

They love the house so much
that they don't want to leave it.

And the girls understood.

I think they were okay with it.

Still, I slept on the couch.

And my sister did as well.

[Shannon] We felt safer
sleeping together.

[narrator] But one night,

even a sister's company
is not enough.

[eerie music playing]

[door opening]

[door creaking]

[Sabrina] I was woken up
by the door opening.

[whispering] Shannon.

Shannon.

[Sabrina] I see this tall, tall
figure with a hat on and a coat.

All black.

I felt nothing but negative.

But I didn't say a word
and I didn't move.

He shined this light
on my sister.

And I realized he wasn't
holding a flashlight or a phone,

it was just his hand.

[suspenseful music playing]

I remember just seeing the
light being flashed on me.

And I didn't move.

And a couple seconds later,
I hear him walk out the house.

And I ran up
to the door and I locked it.

[narrator] After the incident
in the living room,

Shannon decides to sleep
upstairs, in Abuela's old apartment,

which has sat vacant
since she passed away.

But Sabrina's memory of what
happened to her there years ago

keeps her from staying long.

Sabrina...

are you sure that you want to
sleep downstairs by yourself?

I don't want to stay up here.

It doesn't feel right.

Like someone's
always watching me.

I'd rather stay by the front
door in case something happens.

I can just run out.

Okay. Well, I'm here
if you need me.

- Night.
- Night.

[door creaking]

[footsteps]

When I saw that thing
behind the door,

I was not really focused
on the feeling,

like if the atmosphere
felt heavy.

All I know is that there's this
tall thing standing in front of me.

What is it going to do?

What does it want?

You are not her.

Where is your sister?

[narrator] Shannon Nuno
has just had

a terrifying encounter
with a dark figure.

Where is your sister?

[narrator] But she wasn't
the intended target.

[Shannon] I just passed out
and then it was over.

When I woke up, I looked around,

'cause it was morning already,

and I was thinking
about it again to see...

Remember exactly what it was,

try to remember
the details of it.

I knew I wasn't dreaming.

I was scared
to sleep upstairs alone.

I left my belongings up there,

but I just moved
back downstairs.

[narrator] Certain that
time away from their home

is exactly
what her family needs,

Sandra arranges a trip to visit
Isidro's relatives for the holidays.

She now believes that whatever
is after her family feels evil.

[Sandra] You feel it.
It's a feeling.

Your hair is
all up on your arms.

And it's just like
something's there.

It's very terrifying.

We have to go.

[narrator] In Mexico,
a cousin suggests

taking the girls to a local
shaman for cleansing.

[Sandra] I became
very desperate,

because I knew that both of them were
going through too much with these entities.

Are you sure
this is going to work?

Is he going to help us?

I don't know, baby.

But I sure hope so.

[Shannon] I know, like,
a lot of people

don't really believe
in this kind of stuff,

and at the time I was
kind of iffy about it too.

Por favor.

The shaman that I took my
daughters to was a religious shaman.

Those are the ones
that practice healing.

[in Spanish]
Your body is dirt.

Your blood is water.

Your breath is air.

Your spirit is fire.

Your body is dirt.

Your blood is water.

Your breath is air.

Your spirit is fire.

[narrator] The shaman believes
Sabrina and Shannon

have come into contact
with evil spirits

who attached themselves
to the girls.

In the paranormal world, it's
the first level of possession.

They performed,
in their culture,

what they believe would
get rid of the negativity.

[in Spanish]
Your body is dirt.

Your blood is water.

Your breath is air.

Your spirit is fire.

Your body is dirt.

Your blood is water.

Your breath is air.

Your spirit is fire.

Your body is dirt.

Your blood is water.

Your breath is air.

Your spirit is fire!

[coughing]

[gasps]

[eerie music playing]

- [in Spanish] It's over.
- [in Spanish] Thank you for everything.

[Sandra] He cleansed them
from head to foot,

and they were fine after that.
They were fine.

I feel better.

Me too.

After it all happened,
I did feel relieved.

Everything went back to normal.

[narrator] Back in Chicago,
the Nuno family feels

their troubles are behind them.

When we went back home,
everything felt great.

I was hopeful that everything
was done and dealt with

so I don't really
have any more worries.

- Okay, I'm going to go to sleep... in my room.
- [chuckles]

- Good night.
- Good night.

[Sabrina] I was watching TV.
It was around Christmas time.

[spectral voices
speaking indistinctly]

And I started hearing voices.

[spectral voices
speaking indistinctly]

My mom had these huge ornaments,

and I looked over to them and I saw
the shadow man walking towards me.

[screams]

[Sabrina] I got up
and I ran out of the house.

[Isidro] What's
the matter, honey?

Papa, it's back.

Who's back?

The man in the boots.

I saw him last night,
in the house.

He's back!

I was really afraid
and I was really angry.

Leave us alone!
You have no right to be here!

[Isidro] I started shouting
at them to leave us alone.

[in Spanish] Get out
of here, damned ghost!

They heard me.
They didn't care.

[narrator] Desperate for help
and unsure of where to turn...

for the Nuno family, a solution
appears from an unexpected source.

It's Bill Bean,
a deliverance minister.

I felt that he was so powerful.

I just was drawn to everything
that he was doing.

And I watched the credits,
got his name,

and then I contacted him.

[narrator] Bill agrees to come
to the house and help the family.

I was very desperate,
and it was my last chance.

[narrator] But the forces
of darkness seemed displeased

about the minister's
impending arrival.

[Sabrina] I would wake up
and smell rotten egg.

It was just a really bad smell.

I believed my life was at stake.

[narrator] For some time,

the Nuno family has been experiencing
escalating paranormal violence.

They eagerly await the arrival

of deliverance minister
Bill Bean.

[Bill] I am a non-denomination

spiritual deliverance minister.

It means that, by the power
of God working through me,

I can deliver people from evil.

Thank you so much for coming.

I'm Isidro.
This is my wife, Sandra.

Bill was at the house within
a week after I contacted him.

I can feel already
that you are under attack.

[Bill] Sure enough, when
I arrived at the residence,

I felt the presence of evil
right away.

It was a very heavy feeling.

I knew that
that family was in trouble.

God shows me things like
that to put images in my head,

or just the knowing
of the situation,

or even show me
some of these entities.

[Sabrina] At this point
of my life,

I was tired of having to live
in fear in my own home.

I was tired of being attacked.

I was just tired
with everything.

I was tired with life.

Bill Bean was my last hope.

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.

[Bill] First thing I did
when I entered the home,

I recited the Lord's Prayer.

It is all part of invoking
the power of God

over the situation
and the victims.

And lead us not to temptation,

but deliver us
from the evil one,

for thine is the Kingdom
and the power and the glory,

forever and ever. Amen.

[others] Amen.

I am here to help.

And I got to be honest,
I sense from God himself

that you have several entities
and demons in your home.

Do you know what a portal is?
Have you heard that word?

No.

A portal is like a door,

and it's opened between the world
of the dead and this world on Earth.

And when it's open...

anything and everything
can come through.

Do... do we have
portals in our house?

Your house is filled
with open portals.

But don't worry,
I'm going to close them.

He said, "We have
to get rid of this evil

that is literally sucking
the life out of your family."

I just had this gut feeling

that he was the one that
was sent to us to help us,

that he had the power to do it.

Let's begin.

He blessed everything
with holy water.

Every little thing.

Father, I pray
that you bless this family.

I pray that you send
50 of your strongest

and most powerful warrior-angels

to guard and protect them
and their home.

[Bill] As I'm going
through the Nuno home,

it is the power of God that works
through me to cast these demons out.

By the mighty power of Yahweh,

by his might and his Holy
name, and in the name of Jesus,

I bind and rebuke every demon
that might be in this house.

[Bill] I saw demonic entities
in there,

and mostly in the form
of black forms.

They're not scared of me.

They would kill me
if they could.

Let God arise.

May his enemies be scattered.

As the smoke is driven away,
so drive them away.

As the wax melted
before the flame,

so may the wicked perish

at the presence
of the Almighty God.

The power of God works
through me in such a strong way

that demons
cannot withstand that.

And they have to go.
They have to flee.

Warrior-angels, bind and expel
all of the demons in this home!

Take them into custody
and carry them off!

Deposit them into the pits
of Hell, where they belong!

All the lights started
to flicker and intensify.

Whatever he was doing
was working.

The light was so bright.

I was in shock to see that.

All of a sudden,
the lights were like

they were going to explode.

[narrator] Deliverance
minister Bill Bean

has fought a battle against
evil in the Nuno family's home...

dispelling the darkness.

I felt a huge weight
lifted off my shoulders.

Everything felt...
It felt good.

[Isidro] The whole house
felt very at peace.

You feel at ease.

You feel, uh, serenity.

[Bill] God, I ask
that your warrior-angels

take back any spirit left in this
house that belongs with you.

[narrator] Bill confirms that
in addition to the dark entity,

the spirits of the original
owners still reside in the home.

Take them home, Father,
to your heavenly Kingdom,

in Jesus' name.

Amen.

[Sandra] I didn't want
the original owners to stay,

because I believe that it was
time for them to rest.

It was better for them to
leave, and Bill sent them away.

I believe they were here
because they loved their home...

and because they were
trying to protect Sabrina

from the darker things
in the house.

It was told to me that Isidro,
his ancestors, have gifts.

So this carries on
through the family lineage,

to Sabrina.

Bill Bean told me
that I have extra sensitivity

because of my twin
not making it in the womb.

He did warn me that,
because I am a sensitive,

that they would be
attracted more so to me.

He did explain that
my sister would be able to...

like, defend herself from them.

[Bill] Having those
types of gifts,

and if they can make
the transformation

from victim to victor,
there's no limit

to what God will do through
them in helping others.

It's your house.

[Sandra] We were standing
outside, and I looked at it,

and it just looked
like there was a glow.

A glow around the whole house.

- Thank you.
- You're welcome.

I truly appreciate Bill Bean,
and I fully believe what he does.

[narrator]
Since Bill's blessing,

the Nuno family
feels more at peace.

The house feels so light,
so loving.

And it's great.

[Sabrina] I feel like after
everything that has happened,

my family and I
are a lot stronger

and a lot closer
with each other.

I feel like it brought us
closer together.

[calm music playing]

[suspenseful music playing]

[eerie music playing]
