Jed Potter looks back on a love triangle conducted over the course of years and between musical numbers. Dancer Jed loves showgirl Mary, who loves compulsive nightclub-opener Johnny, who can't stay committed to anything in life for very long.

'As I promised, we're going to

reflect an epoch in American life.

'To most of us they bring back
a multitude of memories.

'To me they bring back a story
which I'm going to relate tonight.

'And for a very special reason.

'It's an unfinished story
because the people in it are real,

leaving their stories unfinished.

to give this story its proper ending.

of peace between two world wars.
