My Perfect Landing (2020): Season 1, Episode 10 - Training Day - full transcript

Grandpa Gus trains Jenny for the Qualifier, but his techniques are somewhat unusual.

JENNY:
Previously on
My Perfect Landing:

Nice. Stretch those knees,
please, point your feet.

Name one reason why you
shouldn't go to Hillside?

Number one, my mom,
and I don't have a coach,

and I don't have anywhere to
train, which is three reasons.

I wanna compete as an individual
for Cortez Gymnastics.

Oh, your mom's not gonna
like that.

Oh, your hands are blistered.
I'm fine.

Enough bar work today.
Time to get ready for school.

I don't want to go to school.

I want you to be my coach.

Don't you think I have what
it takes to go to Hillside?

I think you can win Hillside,

but I don't like the idea
of hiding it from your mom.

It's the only way.

[♪♪♪]

[YAWNS]

Been a while since I've been up
for a 6:00 a.m. practice.

Too early for you, Grandpa?

A little, yeah, but I'll adjust.

So I guess this is
how you got so good in Miami,

these secret trainings?
Can't have Mom finding out.

Well, uh, why don't you go

and show me
your floor routine again?

[♪♪♪]

How was that?

[SIGHS]

Look, you're great.

I think we're just
talking details at this point,

little nitty-gritty things,
the ticky-tacky stuff.

You're not gonna talk that
way the whole time, are you?

Come on. Who doesn't love
to say "ticky-tacky"? Try it.

Ticky-tacky.
That does nothing for me.

Can we go back to training?
Sure.

Get into a handstand, look up...
And your mom's here.

There you are. I was looking
everywhere for you.

What are you guys doing?

We were getting that
fruit shipment, remember?

One might ask
what you're doing up.

Well, Jenny's alarm
kept going off,

and when I couldn't find
her upstairs, I came down here.

And now I need a coffee.

Hey, honey.
Hey.

Heading out for my girl's night.
Tonight we're playing darts.

You deserve a night out.

I kind of don't feel like going.

I could stay. We could hang out.

No, you've been
working really hard

and I have
a lot of homework to do.

Okay. Don't stay up too late.

[♪♪♪]

[WHISPERING]
Gus?

Gus?

You're not gonna have time
for homework.

Yeah, I know. Let's train.

Okay, after this morning's
practice, I had some thoughts.

Good.
Know what a lot of people think?

They think greatness
is about going out there

and just knocking it
out of the park.

The truth is, it's actually
about the little things.

So, what do you want to work on?
My landings?

No, your gym bag.
What?

Yeah. Organize it.
Seriously?

Heh, greatness is not slovenly.

Yeah, I know.

What do you want me
to start with?

Your water bottle.

I didn't bring one.

I live upstairs.

I appreciate the sass,

but what if I wanted
to do some running outside?

You'd be out of luck.
I guess so.

And what if you
ripped your leotard?

Or did you bring headphones
for your pump-up music?

Do you have a Band-Aid?

Do you have towels?

You are here because,

You're gonna be doing it

I want you guys
