King of the Mountain (1981) - full transcript

A group of friends race their high-powered cars up and down a dangerous and deadly mountain road known as Mulholland Drive to see who can claim the title of "King of the Hill."

23 miles of
Mulholland slicing Los Angeles

like a knife, it's like a trip in time.

Sometimes I just can't wait for night.

You see too much in the sunshine.

Roads changin'.

Civilization's choking it.

At night the straightaways are shorter.

Turns sharper.

Drop steeper.

It's the only place I ever felt safe.

I'm clear.

I'm clean

and fast.

Freedom.

I wonder who it'll be tonight.

I hope he's fast.

I take it you got the bank.

Bank?

Steve doesn't race for bread.

Well if he
wants us, it's 100 a pop.

You gonna do it, or what?

Hey ease up, hang on a second.

What did you set up with them?

Set up a race.

Yeah but for $100?

Trust me, we won't need it.

That's all I needed to hear.

Is your man ready?

- Very ready.
- The course clear?

Mulholland's sealed off.

Okay.

Okay, friend, you want
a run for your money?

You're gonna get a run for your money.

Not a chance, pal, not a chance.

No way, no way.

Not a bad idea.

What do you say we nail their asses?

Let's go.

Okay, pull
the plug, you're caught.

I said shut it down.

Keep smiling, pal.

I gotta tell ya something,
you are in violation

of section 148 of the penal code.
